Crystals reflect dinosaurs and children. In the reflections, children run across a field, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex jumps into a swimming pool.

In a laser tag arena, a spotlight passes over Dex in the darkened room. Beneath a biohazard symbol, Dex fires his laser gun.
[Dramatic music plays, laser gun zapping, chuckling]
Dex says, WAAH!
In a sniper tower above Dex, a woman with long black hair fires down at him.
Dex says, TAKE THAT! AND THAT! AH!
[Laser guns zapping]
A laser hits Dex’s dad’s vest. His dad, a man with a buzzed head, black beard, and moustache, sinks to the floor dramatically, holding the front of his vest.
Dex’s dad says, AH!
Dex shouts, DAD!
Dex’s dad says, THEY GOT ME.
Dex kneels in front of his dad.
[Thumping, dramatic music continues]
Dex says, DAD!
Dex’s dad puts his hand on Dex’s shoulder.
Dex’s dad says, IT'S UP TO YOU NOW, SON. IT'S 2-0. WIN THIS ROUND, AND WE WIN THE WHOLE LASER TAG GAME. NOW, GO. GO!
Dex runs away from his dad.
[Dex whimpering]
The black-haired woman approaches Dex’s dad and points her laser gun at his vest.
The black-haired woman asks, WHICH WAY DID HE GO?
Dex’s dad says, I'LL NEVER TELL.
[Laser gun zapping]
Dex’s dad says, YOU ALREADY GOT ME.
The black-haired woman says, HMM.
Dex holds his laser gun up as he sneaks through the labyrinth. His eyes widen, and he lowers his gun when two Velociraptors run out of different corridors and meet in front of him.
[Dinosaurs screeching]
Dex says, VELOCIRAPTORS. WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING? HUNTING? SCAVENGING? BUILDING A NEST? SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Green laser beams blast around the dinosaurs and Dex.
[Laser gun zapping, Velociraptors screeching]
Dex says, HEY, WHOEVER IS TRYING TO BLAST ME, YOU SCARED OFF THE VELOCIRAPTORS.
A girl with her long black hair in a ponytail crouches behind a nearby barrier. She wears a red T-shirt, red eyeglasses, and black shorts.
The black-haired girl says, VELOCIRAPTORS? HUH. SQUAWK!
She peers around the corner of the barrier. Dex and the Velociraptors are gone.
[Girl squawks]
Dex pokes the girl’s back with his laser gun.
Dex says, IT'S MORE LIKE THIS.
[Dex squawks]
Dex shoots the girl’s vest. Behind him, the black-haired woman leans over a barrier and shoots Dex in the back.
[Laser guns zapping]
The black-haired woman says, HA! GOTCHA.
Dex says, WHA--
[Black-haired woman laughing, Dex groaning]
Dex’s dad arrives.
Dex’s dad asks, WHAT HAPPENED?
Dex says, WE LOST.
The girl cheers, WOO-HOO!
Photos show Dex posing with his dad and the black-haired woman and girl posing together. Dex and his dad have two stars out of a possible three beneath their photo. The other photo has a gold star beneath it. The black-haired woman and girl leave the laser tag arena.
[Chiming, upbeat music plays]
The black-haired woman cheers, WOO!
The black-haired girl cheers, YEAH! WOO!
They high-five.
[Hands slapping]
The black-haired woman says, WE MAKE A GREAT TEAM, KAYLA.
The black-haired girl, Kayla, says, THAT WAS AWESOME.
[Both cheering, music stops]
Dex and his dad walk out behind them.
Dex’s dad says, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. YOU WON THIS ROUND. BUT WE'RE AHEAD. AND WE ONLY NEED ONE MORE ROUND TO WIN.
The black-haired woman says, WE'LL SEE.
[Dex’s dad scoffing]
Dex’s dad asks, WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE, DEX?
Dex replies, VELOCIRAPTORS HAPPENED.
The black-haired woman touches Kayla’s shoulder.
[Kayla gasps]
Kayla asks, WHAT WERE THEY DOING?
Dex replies, MY TOP THEORY IS THAT THEY WERE HUNTING TOGETHER, BUT PALEONTOLOGISTS AREN'T SURE IF VELOCIRAPTORS WERE PACK HUNTERS.
The black-haired woman says, ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
Kayla and the black-haired woman say, DINO EXPERIMENT!
Dex’s dad says, YEAH, CONCENTRATE ON THE GAME.
Dramatic music plays and stops]
Dex says, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO SOLVE DINO EXPERIMENT 10-1-2. DO VELOCIRAPTORS HUNT ALONE OR IN PACKS?
Dex’s dad says, BUT, DEX, CAN YOU SOLVE YOUR DINO EXPERIMENT, AND WIN LASER TAG?
Dex says, VELOCIRAPTOR MEANS "SWIFT THIEF," BECAUSE THEY'RE FAST. IF I'M SPEEDY LIKE A VELOCIRAPTOR, I CAN DO BOTH.
The black-haired woman takes out her smartphone.
[Typing]
Kayla says, TRY WHAT I DID TO YOU, DEX. LURE THEM IN WITH A VELOCIRAPTOR SQUAWK. SQUAAAAAAAAWK!
The black-haired woman says, LURING IN YOUR TARGET USING BAIT THEY LIKE IS A GREAT HUNTING TECHNIQUE. LOTS OF ANIMALS DO IT.
Dex’s dad says, HMM, USING HIS PASSION AGAINST HIM. IS THAT HOW YOU WANT TO WIN?
Video footage shows a Great Egret dropping bread into the water and catching a fish.
[Squelching]
The black-haired woman says, CHECK IT OUT, DEXY. SOME BIRDS USE BREAD AS BAIT TO CATCH FISH. THEN, CHOMP!
[Horn chiming]
Kayla says, NEXT ROUND! WOO!
Kayla and the black-haired woman high-five.
[Hands slapping, upbeat music plays, beeping]
Dex says, I'LL USE BAIT THE VELOCIRAPTORS LIKE TO LURE THEM IN AND SEE IF THEY HUNT TOGETHER. GOOD THING I BROUGHT MY BEEF JERKY.
Dex’s dad says, HOPE YOU BROUGHT YOUR A-GAME, TOO. AND DON'T FORGET TO TAG MOM AND KAYLA WHEN YOU'RE OUT THERE EXPERIMENTING.
Dex says, I WON'T FORGET. I CAN DO BOTH.
The group runs into the laser tag arena and moves through the labyrinth. Dex and his dad stay together.
Automated voice says, TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE...
Dex’s dad says, NEW PLAN. I'LL BE THE BAIT, AND LURE MOM AND KAYLA. THEN YOU BLAST 'EM.
They smile at each other.
Dex says, USE MOM'S PLAN AGAINST THEM. NICE.
[Dex’s dad chuckling]
Dex’s dad sneaks forward. Dex notices a Velociraptor down a hallway in the labyrinth.
[Velociraptor squawking, upbeat music continues]
Dex says, I'LL BE RIGHT THERE.
Dex follows the Velociraptor. He throws his beef jerky out, tied to the end of a strap, and the two Velociraptors bicker.
[Velociraptors squawking, snarling]
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE YOU BOTH WANT THE BAIT, SO LET'S SEE IF YOU HUNT TOGETHER.
Dex walks backwards, pulling the bait on the strap. The larger Velociraptor takes the bait and runs away.
[Velociraptor screeching, rustling]
Dex says, WHOA! OH! OR NOT. THE BIG ONE TORE MY BAIT RIGHT OFF.
[Velociraptor squawking]
Dex says, AND SHE'S NOT SHARING.
[Laser gun zapping, dramatic music plays]
Dex’s dad shouts, DON'T BLAST ME!
Dex says, DAD!
[Laser guns zapping]
Dex’s dad shouts AAH!
Dex’s dad grabs the front of his vest.
Dex says, OH, NO! WHERE'S MOM AND KAYLA?
Kayla says, WE'RE RIGHT HERE.
The black-haired woman, Dex’s mom, says, HA HA!
Kayla and Dex’s mom both blast Dex.
[Laser guns zapping]
Kayla and Dex’s mom leave the arena. A second star appears beneath their photograph. Dex and his dad follow them out.
Dex’s mom cheers, WOO-HOO! WE WON.
Kayla cheers, YES! YEAH! OH YEAH!
[Both cheering]
Kayla says, WE WON AGAIN! WOO! OH MY GOODNESS.
Dex’s mom sings, THAT'S IT. THAT'S IT. THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE.
Dex’s dad says, YOU DIDN'T WIN, WIN. YOU JUST TIED US.
[Music stops]
Dex’s mom says, UH, BUT IF WE WIN THE NEXT ROUND, WE WIN THE WHOLE GAME.
Dex’s dad says, WHERE WERE YOU, DEX? BAITING DOESN'T WORK IF YOU DON'T COME HELP ME.
Dex says, SORRY, DAD. I WAS TRYING TO GET THE VELOCIRAPTORS TO HUNT THE JERKY BAIT, BUT ONE OF THEM DIDN'T SHARE.
Dex’s dad says, SO THEY DON'T HUNT TOGETHER. DINO EXPERIMENT TEN-WHATEVER, COMPLETE. LET'S GET BACK TO LASER TAGGING, AND WINNING AGAIN.
Kayla says, HEY, HEY, YOU CAN'T RUSH SCIENCE.
[Typing]
Dex’s mom says, KAYLA'S RIGHT. MAYBE VELOCIRAPTORS ARE LIKE SNOWY OWLS.
She shows a video on her smartphone of a snowy owl swooping and catching a rodent.
[Flapping]
Dex’s mom continues, THEY HUNT ALONE WHEN SMALL PREY AREN'T BIG ENOUGH TO SHARE.
Dex says, THEN WHAT I NEED IS BIGGER BAIT. OH! BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY BEEF JERKY LEFT.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, OH! I KNOW. YOU CAN USE THE HAM FROM THE SANDWICH MY MOM MADE ME. WHOOP!
Kayla takes a sandwich out of a bag and throws it to Dex.
[Rustling]
Dex’s dad says, HUH. AREN'T YOU SUPER KIND AND HELPFUL.
[Horn chiming]
Dex’s mom says, NEXT TIME, MAYBE DON'T STAND OUT IN THE OPEN, HON.
She turns and walks to the arena.
[Dex’s mom laughing, beeping]
Kayla says, YEAH, YOU MADE IT WAY TOO EASY FOR US TO TAKE YOU DOWN TOGETHER.
[Kayla cackling]
Kayla walks to the arena.
Dex says, WAIT, MAYBE IF I GET THE BAIT OUT IN THE OPEN, THE VELOCIRAPTORS WILL SURROUND IT, AND HUNT IT TOGETHER.
Dex’s dad says, OKAY. AND THEN LESS DINO CHAT, AND MORE LET'S WIN CHAT.
[Footsteps running, tense music plays]
The automated voice says, TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE...
Dex’s dad says, THIS TIME, WE'LL DO THE SURROUNDING. LET'S SPLIT UP, LEAD MOM AND KAYLA TO THAT OPEN AREA, AND THEN, BLAST, BLAST. WIN, WIN. BRAGGING RIGHTS FOR DAYS.
[Rustling, chiming]
Dex says, GOT IT. GREAT IDEA. AS SOON AS I FINISH MY EXPERIMENT.
Dex’s dad says, DO IT FAST! WE GOTTA WIN THIS ONE.
The two Velociraptors approach Dex.
[Velociraptors squawking]
Dex says, WHOA. YOU VELOCIRAPTORS FOUND ME. NOW LET'S SEE IF YOU SURROUND ME. COME AND GET IT!
Dex drops the bait tied to the end of a strap.
[Velociraptors screeching]
Dex says, YES! THE BAIT IS SURROUNDED. NOW LET'S SEE IF YOU HUNT TOGETHER.
The Velociraptors dart forward for the bait and smack their heads together.
[Snarling, smacking, grunting]
Dex says, UH, I DON'T THINK GOING FOR THE BAIT AT THE SAME TIME IS A GOOD STRATEGY.
The Velociraptors snap at each other.
[Snapping]
Dex says, HEY, THE BAIT IS RIGHT HERE.
[[Velociraptors screeching, hissing]
Dex says, YOU'RE NOT VERY GOOD AT WORKING TOGETHER, ARE YOU?
Dex’s dad shouts, DEX, WHERE ARE YOU?
One of the Velociraptors runs away. The other one grabs the sandwich.
[Snapping, tense music continues]
Dex says, YOU TOOK THE BAIT FOR YOURSELF.
Dex’s dad says, DEX, KAYLA'S FOLLOWING ME. WHERE'S MOM, SO WE CAN SURROUND HER?
Dex says, I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T SEE KAYLA.
Dex’s dad says, UGH! I THINK I LOST HER.
[Kayla giggling]
Kayla says, BUT I DIDN'T LOSE YOU!
[Zapping]
Dex’s dad shouts, AH! DEX, RUN!
[Laughter]
Dex’s mom shoots a target on Dex’s vest.
[Zapping]
Dex’s mom says, WOO!
Dex says, OH, MAN! BUT DON'T WORRY, DAD. I MADE A MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH IN OUR DINO EXPERIMENT.
Dex’s dad looks down.
Dex’s dad says, OH. COOL.
A third star appears beneath the photograph of Kayla and Dex’s mom.
[Dex’s mom and Kayla cheering, chiming]
Kayla says, YEAH! WE WON!
Dex’s mom asks, NOW, DID WE WIN, OR DID YOU LOSE?
Dex’s mom and Kayla high-five.
[Both laughing, hands slapping]
Dex’s dad asks, HOW LONG ARE YOU GONNA BRAG FOR? A COUPLE DAYS? A WEEK?
Dex’s mom says, OH, AT LEAST A WEEK.
[Background beeping]
Dex’s dad says, GREAT. COME ON, DEX. LET'S GO HOME.
Dex says, WE CAN'T GO HOME. I'M NOT DONE MY DINO EXPERIMENT YET. EVEN WITH BIGGER BAIT, THE VELOCIRAPTORS STILL DIDN'T HUNT TOGETHER. THEY JUST BANGED INTO EACH OTHER, AND SQUAWKED.
Dex’s mom says, WELL, MAYBE THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHEN WE WORK AS A TEAM, WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHO DOES WHAT.
Kayla says, WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW WE WON THAT LAST ROUND.
Dex’s dad says, CAN YOU STOP SAYING "WINNING" ALL THE TIME? YOU KNOW, THERE'S MORE TO LIFE. OKAY?
Dex’s mom holds her smartphone.
[Dex’s mom typing]
Dex’s mom says, WE JUST DECIDED TO ACT LIKE WOLVES. SEE, WOLVES WATCH EACH OTHER WHILE THEY HUNT SO THEY CAN ATTACK WITHOUT GETTING IN EACH OTHER'S WAY.
Dex’s mom shows a video clip of a pack of wolves running.
[Wolf whining]
Dex says, BUT THE VELOCIRAPTORS DIDN'T DO THAT. THEY BOTH WENT FOR THE BAIT.
Dex’s mom says, MAYBE THE BAIT WAS TOO EASY.
Kayla says, SO THEY EACH THOUGHT THEY COULD GET IT THEMSELVES.
[Dex gasping]
Dex says, THEN I JUST NEED TO MAKE THE BAIT HARDER TO GET, SO IF THEY WANT IT, THEY HAVE TO HUNT TOGETHER. BUT HOW AM I GOING TO DO THAT IF WE'RE GOING HOME?
Dex’s dad says, I HAVE A SELFLESS IDEA. TO HELP DEX FINISH HIS DINO EXPERIMENT, WHY DON'T WE PLAY ONE MORE ROUND? WINNER TAKES ALL.
Dex’s mom raises her eyebrows.
Dex’s dad says, FOR SCIENCE.
Kayla says, I KIND OF WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER, TOO.
Dex’s mom says, AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE WHEN WE BEAT YOU AGAIN.
[Upbeat music plays]
Dex’s mom says, ONE MORE ROUND, I WILL GET YOU MORE BAIT.
Dex’s mom walks away from the group.
[Mom laughing]
Dex’s dad says, YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN!
Kayla says, BRING IT!
In the laser tag arena, the automated voice says, TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE...
Dex’s dad says, BE A WOLF. I'LL GO THIS WAY, YOU GO THAT WAY.
Dex says, RIGHT AFTER I FINISH WITH THIS HOT DOG.
The automated voice says, TWO, ONE.
Dex walks backwards, dragging the hot dog on the floor at the end of the strap. The two Velociraptors follow, snapping at each other.
[Velociraptors squawking, upbeat music continues]
Dex says, NOT SO EASY, HUH? THIS BAIT IS PRETTY HARD TO GET. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO HUNT TOGETHER.
The Velociraptors hit each other.
[Velociraptors snarling, thumping]
Dex says, HEY, WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING? THIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPETITION.
The Velociraptors push each other. The larger Velociraptor jumps on the back of the smaller Velociraptor, leaps onto a barrel, then leaps down, takes the hotdog, and runs away. The smaller Velociraptor chases it.
[Velociraptors snarling, screeching, hissing, thumping]
Dex says, OKAY, YOU ARE WAY TOO COMPETITIVE TO HUNT TOGETHER.
Dex’s dad runs up and grabs his arm.
Dex’s dad says, THEY'RE RIGHT BEHIND ME.
[Kayla giggling]
Dex says, GUESS WHAT, DAD? I SOLVED MY DINO EXPERIMENT, AND LEARNED A LOT FROM THE VELOCIRAPTORS.
Dex’s dad says, LIKE HOW TO BEAT MOM AND KAYLA?
Dex says, I HOPE SO, BECAUSE HERE THEY COME!
Dex grabs his father and pushes him out from behind cover. Dex’s dad falls to his knees. Dex’s mom smiles and shoots her laser gun.
Dex’s dad says, WHOA! WHOA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
[Dex’s dad screams dramatically, laser guns zapping, Dex’s mom and Kayla laughing]
Dex’s mom says, YES!
Kayla says, YEAAAAAH!
Dex shouts, OH! AH!
Dex stands behind his dad and shoots two guns at his mom and Kayla.
[Dex’s shouting turns into laughing, laser gun zapping]
Dex’s dad says, WHOA! WHAT? DID WE JUST... WIN?
[Dex and his dad cheering, laughing]
Dex, his dad, his mom, and Kayla leave the arena. One star appears beneath the photograph of Dex and his dad.
[Bell ringing]
Dex’s dad says, WE WIN.
Dex’s mom says, UH, YEAH. HE USED YOU AS A HUMAN SHIELD.
Dex’s dad says, HE DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO TO WIN.
Dex says, I JUST DID WHAT THE VELOCIRAPTOR DID. SHE JUMPED ON THE SMALLER VELOCIRAPTOR TO GET THE BAIT.
Kayla says, HMM. VELOCIRAPTORS REALLY DO HUNT ALONE.
Dex says, EXACTLY. THEY DON'T SHARE OR COOPERATE BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO COMPETITIVE. DINO EXPERIMENT COMPLETE.
Dex and his dad pump their fists in the air.
Kayla says, YOU KNOW WHAT? VELOCIRAPTORS MIGHT HUNT ALONE, BUT I LIKE WORKING IN A PACK.
Dex’s mom says, HOW ABOUT ONE MORE GAME?
Dex’s dad says, NO WAY! THAT WAS A WINNER-TAKES-ALL GAME. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS.
Dex’s dad smiles broadly and walks away from the arena door.
Dex’s mom says, AW, COME ON! ONE MORE!
Kayla says, THIS ISN'T OVER!
Dex says, YOU'RE EVEN WORSE THAN THE VELOCIRAPTORS.
[Velociraptor squawking, screeching]
Dex picks up the bag. A Velociraptor looks at him and then runs through the door into the arena.

Dex shoots the girl’s vest. Behind him, the black-haired woman leans over a barrier and shoots Dex in the back.
[Laser guns zapping]
The black-haired woman says, HA! GOTCHA.
Dex says, WHA--
[Black-haired woman laughing, Dex groaning]
Dex’s dad arrives.
Dex’s dad asks, WHAT HAPPENED?
Dex says, WE LOST.
The girl cheers, WOO-HOO!
Photos show Dex posing with his dad and the black-haired woman and girl posing together. Dex and his dad have two stars out of a possible three beneath their photo. The other photo has a gold star beneath it. The black-haired woman and girl leave the laser tag arena.
[Chiming, upbeat music plays]
The black-haired woman cheers, WOO!
The black-haired girl cheers, YEAH! WOO!
They high-five.
[Hands slapping]
The black-haired woman says, WE MAKE A GREAT TEAM, KAYLA.
The black-haired girl, Kayla, says, THAT WAS AWESOME.
[Both cheering, music stops]
Dex and his dad walk out behind them.
Dex’s dad says, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. YOU WON THIS ROUND. BUT WE'RE AHEAD. AND WE ONLY NEED ONE MORE ROUND TO WIN.
The black-haired woman says, WE'LL SEE.
[Dex’s dad scoffing]
Dex’s dad asks, WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE, DEX?
Dex replies, VELOCIRAPTORS HAPPENED.
The black-haired woman touches Kayla’s shoulder.
[Kayla gasps]
Kayla asks, WHAT WERE THEY DOING?
Dex replies, MY TOP THEORY IS THAT THEY WERE HUNTING TOGETHER, BUT PALEONTOLOGISTS AREN'T SURE IF VELOCIRAPTORS WERE PACK HUNTERS.
The black-haired woman says, ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
Kayla and the black-haired woman say, DINO EXPERIMENT!
Dex’s dad says, YEAH, CONCENTRATE ON THE GAME.
Dramatic music plays and stops]
Dex says, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO SOLVE DINO EXPERIMENT 10-1-2. DO VELOCIRAPTORS HUNT ALONE OR IN PACKS?
Dex’s dad says, BUT, DEX, CAN YOU SOLVE YOUR DINO EXPERIMENT, AND WIN LASER TAG?
Dex says, VELOCIRAPTOR MEANS "SWIFT THIEF," BECAUSE THEY'RE FAST. IF I'M SPEEDY LIKE A VELOCIRAPTOR, I CAN DO BOTH.
The black-haired woman takes out her smartphone.
[Typing]
Kayla says, TRY WHAT I DID TO YOU, DEX. LURE THEM IN WITH A VELOCIRAPTOR SQUAWK. SQUAAAAAAAAWK!
The black-haired woman says, LURING IN YOUR TARGET USING BAIT THEY LIKE IS A GREAT HUNTING TECHNIQUE. LOTS OF ANIMALS DO IT.
Dex’s dad says, HMM, USING HIS PASSION AGAINST HIM. IS THAT HOW YOU WANT TO WIN?
Video footage shows a Great Egret dropping bread into the water and catching a fish.
[Squelching]
The black-haired woman says, CHECK IT OUT, DEXY. SOME BIRDS USE BREAD AS BAIT TO CATCH FISH. THEN, CHOMP!
[Horn chiming]
Kayla says, NEXT ROUND! WOO!
Kayla and the black-haired woman high-five.
[Hands slapping, upbeat music plays, beeping]
Dex says, I'LL USE BAIT THE VELOCIRAPTORS LIKE TO LURE THEM IN AND SEE IF THEY HUNT TOGETHER. GOOD THING I BROUGHT MY BEEF JERKY.
Dex’s dad says, HOPE YOU BROUGHT YOUR A-GAME, TOO. AND DON'T FORGET TO TAG MOM AND KAYLA WHEN YOU'RE OUT THERE EXPERIMENTING.
Dex says, I WON'T FORGET. I CAN DO BOTH.
The group runs into the laser tag arena and moves through the labyrinth. Dex and his dad stay together.
Automated voice says, TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE...
Dex’s dad says, NEW PLAN. I'LL BE THE BAIT, AND LURE MOM AND KAYLA. THEN YOU BLAST 'EM.
They smile at each other.
Dex says, USE MOM'S PLAN AGAINST THEM. NICE.
[Dex’s dad chuckling]
Dex’s dad sneaks forward. Dex notices a Velociraptor down a hallway in the labyrinth.
[Velociraptor squawking, upbeat music continues]
Dex says, I'LL BE RIGHT THERE.
Dex follows the Velociraptor. He throws his beef jerky out, tied to the end of a strap, and the two Velociraptors bicker.
[Velociraptors squawking, snarling]
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE YOU BOTH WANT THE BAIT, SO LET'S SEE IF YOU HUNT TOGETHER.
Dex walks backwards, pulling the bait on the strap. The larger Velociraptor takes the bait and runs away.
[Velociraptor screeching, rustling]
Dex says, WHOA! OH! OR NOT. THE BIG ONE TORE MY BAIT RIGHT OFF.
[Velociraptor squawking]
Dex says, AND SHE'S NOT SHARING.
[Laser gun zapping, dramatic music plays]
Dex’s dad shouts, DON'T BLAST ME!
Dex says, DAD!
[Laser guns zapping]
Dex’s dad shouts AAH!
Dex’s dad grabs the front of his vest.
Dex says, OH, NO! WHERE'S MOM AND KAYLA?
Kayla says, WE'RE RIGHT HERE.
The black-haired woman, Dex’s mom, says, HA HA!
Kayla and Dex’s mom both blast Dex.
[Laser guns zapping]
Kayla and Dex’s mom leave the arena. A second star appears beneath their photograph. Dex and his dad follow them out.
Dex’s mom cheers, WOO-HOO! WE WON.
Kayla cheers, YES! YEAH! OH YEAH!
[Both cheering]
Kayla says, WE WON AGAIN! WOO! OH MY GOODNESS.
Dex’s mom sings, THAT'S IT. THAT'S IT. THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE.
Dex’s dad says, YOU DIDN'T WIN, WIN. YOU JUST TIED US.
[Music stops]
Dex’s mom says, UH, BUT IF WE WIN THE NEXT ROUND, WE WIN THE WHOLE GAME.
Dex’s dad says, WHERE WERE YOU, DEX? BAITING DOESN'T WORK IF YOU DON'T COME HELP ME.
Dex says, SORRY, DAD. I WAS TRYING TO GET THE VELOCIRAPTORS TO HUNT THE JERKY BAIT, BUT ONE OF THEM DIDN'T SHARE.
Dex’s dad says, SO THEY DON'T HUNT TOGETHER. DINO EXPERIMENT TEN-WHATEVER, COMPLETE. LET'S GET BACK TO LASER TAGGING, AND WINNING AGAIN.
Kayla says, HEY, HEY, YOU CAN'T RUSH SCIENCE.
[Typing]
Dex’s mom says, KAYLA'S RIGHT. MAYBE VELOCIRAPTORS ARE LIKE SNOWY OWLS.
She shows a video on her smartphone of a snowy owl swooping and catching a rodent.
[Flapping]
Dex’s mom continues, THEY HUNT ALONE WHEN SMALL PREY AREN'T BIG ENOUGH TO SHARE.
Dex says, THEN WHAT I NEED IS BIGGER BAIT. OH! BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY BEEF JERKY LEFT.
[Kayla gasping]
Kayla says, OH! I KNOW. YOU CAN USE THE HAM FROM THE SANDWICH MY MOM MADE ME. WHOOP!
Kayla takes a sandwich out of a bag and throws it to Dex.
[Rustling]
Dex’s dad says, HUH. AREN'T YOU SUPER KIND AND HELPFUL.
[Horn chiming]
Dex’s mom says, NEXT TIME, MAYBE DON'T STAND OUT IN THE OPEN, HON.
She turns and walks to the arena.
[Dex’s mom laughing, beeping]
Kayla says, YEAH, YOU MADE IT WAY TOO EASY FOR US TO TAKE YOU DOWN TOGETHER.
[Kayla cackling]
Kayla walks to the arena.
Dex says, WAIT, MAYBE IF I GET THE BAIT OUT IN THE OPEN, THE VELOCIRAPTORS WILL SURROUND IT, AND HUNT IT TOGETHER.
Dex’s dad says, OKAY. AND THEN LESS DINO CHAT, AND MORE LET'S WIN CHAT.
[Footsteps running, tense music plays]
The automated voice says, TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE...
Dex’s dad says, THIS TIME, WE'LL DO THE SURROUNDING. LET'S SPLIT UP, LEAD MOM AND KAYLA TO THAT OPEN AREA, AND THEN, BLAST, BLAST. WIN, WIN. BRAGGING RIGHTS FOR DAYS.
[Rustling, chiming]
Dex says, GOT IT. GREAT IDEA. AS SOON AS I FINISH MY EXPERIMENT.
Dex’s dad says, DO IT FAST! WE GOTTA WIN THIS ONE.
The two Velociraptors approach Dex.
[Velociraptors squawking]
Dex says, WHOA. YOU VELOCIRAPTORS FOUND ME. NOW LET'S SEE IF YOU SURROUND ME. COME AND GET IT!
Dex drops the bait tied to the end of a strap.
[Velociraptors screeching]
Dex says, YES! THE BAIT IS SURROUNDED. NOW LET'S SEE IF YOU HUNT TOGETHER.
The Velociraptors dart forward for the bait and smack their heads together.
[Snarling, smacking, grunting]
Dex says, UH, I DON'T THINK GOING FOR THE BAIT AT THE SAME TIME IS A GOOD STRATEGY.
The Velociraptors snap at each other.
[Snapping]
Dex says, HEY, THE BAIT IS RIGHT HERE.
[[Velociraptors screeching, hissing]
Dex says, YOU'RE NOT VERY GOOD AT WORKING TOGETHER, ARE YOU?
Dex’s dad shouts, DEX, WHERE ARE YOU?
One of the Velociraptors runs away. The other one grabs the sandwich.
[Snapping, tense music continues]
Dex says, YOU TOOK THE BAIT FOR YOURSELF.
Dex’s dad says, DEX, KAYLA'S FOLLOWING ME. WHERE'S MOM, SO WE CAN SURROUND HER?
Dex says, I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T SEE KAYLA.
Dex’s dad says, UGH! I THINK I LOST HER.
[Kayla giggling]
Kayla says, BUT I DIDN'T LOSE YOU!
[Zapping]
Dex’s dad shouts, AH! DEX, RUN!
[Laughter]
Dex’s mom shoots a target on Dex’s vest.
[Zapping]
Dex’s mom says, WOO!
Dex says, OH, MAN! BUT DON'T WORRY, DAD. I MADE A MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH IN OUR DINO EXPERIMENT.
Dex’s dad looks down.
Dex’s dad says, OH. COOL.
A third star appears beneath the photograph of Kayla and Dex’s mom.
[Dex’s mom and Kayla cheering, chiming]
Kayla says, YEAH! WE WON!
Dex’s mom asks, NOW, DID WE WIN, OR DID YOU LOSE?
Dex’s mom and Kayla high-five.
[Both laughing, hands slapping]
Dex’s dad asks, HOW LONG ARE YOU GONNA BRAG FOR? A COUPLE DAYS? A WEEK?
Dex’s mom says, OH, AT LEAST A WEEK.
[Background beeping]
Dex’s dad says, GREAT. COME ON, DEX. LET'S GO HOME.
Dex says, WE CAN'T GO HOME. I'M NOT DONE MY DINO EXPERIMENT YET. EVEN WITH BIGGER BAIT, THE VELOCIRAPTORS STILL DIDN'T HUNT TOGETHER. THEY JUST BANGED INTO EACH OTHER, AND SQUAWKED.
Dex’s mom says, WELL, MAYBE THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHEN WE WORK AS A TEAM, WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHO DOES WHAT.
Kayla says, WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW WE WON THAT LAST ROUND.
Dex’s dad says, CAN YOU STOP SAYING "WINNING" ALL THE TIME? YOU KNOW, THERE'S MORE TO LIFE. OKAY?
Dex’s mom holds her smartphone.
[Dex’s mom typing]
Dex’s mom says, WE JUST DECIDED TO ACT LIKE WOLVES. SEE, WOLVES WATCH EACH OTHER WHILE THEY HUNT SO THEY CAN ATTACK WITHOUT GETTING IN EACH OTHER'S WAY.
Dex’s mom shows a video clip of a pack of wolves running.
[Wolf whining]
Dex says, BUT THE VELOCIRAPTORS DIDN'T DO THAT. THEY BOTH WENT FOR THE BAIT.
Dex’s mom says, MAYBE THE BAIT WAS TOO EASY.
Kayla says, SO THEY EACH THOUGHT THEY COULD GET IT THEMSELVES.
[Dex gasping]
Dex says, THEN I JUST NEED TO MAKE THE BAIT HARDER TO GET, SO IF THEY WANT IT, THEY HAVE TO HUNT TOGETHER. BUT HOW AM I GOING TO DO THAT IF WE'RE GOING HOME?
Dex’s dad says, I HAVE A SELFLESS IDEA. TO HELP DEX FINISH HIS DINO EXPERIMENT, WHY DON'T WE PLAY ONE MORE ROUND? WINNER TAKES ALL.
Dex’s mom raises her eyebrows.
Dex’s dad says, FOR SCIENCE.
Kayla says, I KIND OF WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER, TOO.
Dex’s mom says, AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE WHEN WE BEAT YOU AGAIN.
[Upbeat music plays]
Dex’s mom says, ONE MORE ROUND, I WILL GET YOU MORE BAIT.
Dex’s mom walks away from the group.
[Mom laughing]
Dex’s dad says, YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN!
Kayla says, BRING IT!
In the laser tag arena, the automated voice says, TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE...
Dex’s dad says, BE A WOLF. I'LL GO THIS WAY, YOU GO THAT WAY.
Dex says, RIGHT AFTER I FINISH WITH THIS HOT DOG.
The automated voice says, TWO, ONE.
Dex walks backwards, dragging the hot dog on the floor at the end of the strap. The two Velociraptors follow, snapping at each other.
[Velociraptors squawking, upbeat music continues]
Dex says, NOT SO EASY, HUH? THIS BAIT IS PRETTY HARD TO GET. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO HUNT TOGETHER.
The Velociraptors hit each other.
[Velociraptors snarling, thumping]
Dex says, HEY, WHY ARE YOU FIGHTING? THIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPETITION.
The Velociraptors push each other. The larger Velociraptor jumps on the back of the smaller Velociraptor, leaps onto a barrel, then leaps down, takes the hotdog, and runs away. The smaller Velociraptor chases it.
[Velociraptors snarling, screeching, hissing, thumping]
Dex says, OKAY, YOU ARE WAY TOO COMPETITIVE TO HUNT TOGETHER.
Dex’s dad runs up and grabs his arm.
Dex’s dad says, THEY'RE RIGHT BEHIND ME.
[Kayla giggling]
Dex says, GUESS WHAT, DAD? I SOLVED MY DINO EXPERIMENT, AND LEARNED A LOT FROM THE VELOCIRAPTORS.
Dex’s dad says, LIKE HOW TO BEAT MOM AND KAYLA?
Dex says, I HOPE SO, BECAUSE HERE THEY COME!
Dex grabs his father and pushes him out from behind cover. Dex’s dad falls to his knees. Dex’s mom smiles and shoots her laser gun.
Dex’s dad says, WHOA! WHOA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
[Dex’s dad screams dramatically, laser guns zapping, Dex’s mom and Kayla laughing]
Dex’s mom says, YES!
Kayla says, YEAAAAAH!
Dex shouts, OH! AH!
Dex stands behind his dad and shoots two guns at his mom and Kayla.
[Dex’s shouting turns into laughing, laser gun zapping]
Dex’s dad says, WHOA! WHAT? DID WE JUST... WIN?
[Dex and his dad cheering, laughing]
Dex, his dad, his mom, and Kayla leave the arena. One star appears beneath the photograph of Dex and his dad.
[Bell ringing]
Dex’s dad says, WE WIN.
Dex’s mom says, UH, YEAH. HE USED YOU AS A HUMAN SHIELD.
Dex’s dad says, HE DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO TO WIN.
Dex says, I JUST DID WHAT THE VELOCIRAPTOR DID. SHE JUMPED ON THE SMALLER VELOCIRAPTOR TO GET THE BAIT.
Kayla says, HMM. VELOCIRAPTORS REALLY DO HUNT ALONE.
Dex says, EXACTLY. THEY DON'T SHARE OR COOPERATE BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO COMPETITIVE. DINO EXPERIMENT COMPLETE.
Dex and his dad pump their fists in the air.
Kayla says, YOU KNOW WHAT? VELOCIRAPTORS MIGHT HUNT ALONE, BUT I LIKE WORKING IN A PACK.
Dex’s mom says, HOW ABOUT ONE MORE GAME?
Dex’s dad says, NO WAY! THAT WAS A WINNER-TAKES-ALL GAME. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS.
Dex’s dad smiles broadly and walks away from the arena door.
Dex’s mom says, AW, COME ON! ONE MORE!
Kayla says, THIS ISN'T OVER!
Dex says, YOU'RE EVEN WORSE THAN THE VELOCIRAPTORS.
[Velociraptor squawking, screeching]
Dex picks up the bag. A Velociraptor looks at him and then runs through the door into the arena.
[Upbeat music plays]
