[Bright music plays]

A child says, WHEE!

t.v.o. kids and Sinking Ship Entertainment Original.

[Giggling]

[Intense music plays]

The skeleton of a T-rex spreads its jaw.

[T-rex roaring]

Wearing knitted dinosaur hats, Dex and Kayla roar like dinosaurs. Dex has short black hair, and Kayla has long black hair and glasses.

[Dex and Kayla roaring]

Dex and Kayla chase after different dinosaurs. In a park, they run from a dinosaur. In a community pool, a dinosaur jumps in the water.

[Dinosaur grunting]

[Splashing]

Green and purple crystals form the title among dinosaur fossils. Dex reads the title.

Dex says, DINO DEX!

Created by J.J. Johnson. Written by Christin Simms.

[Whooshing]

Dex reads the episode title: DINO DEEP END!

Directed by J.J. Johnson.

[Gentle music plays]

In a large indoor community pool, Dex jumps in the deep end. He wears a green swim shirt, green swim shorts and goggles.

[Splashing]

Dex swims to the surface and treads water. He wears a flip-flop and a snorkel on his head like a crest.

Dex says, MAMA! HELP ME! I CAN'T SWIM!

A lifeguard with short black hair runs over.

He asks, ARE YOU OKAY?

Dex says, SORRY, I'M JUST PRETENDING. I'M TRYING TO CONDUCT DINO EXPERIMENT 10-03 TO FIGURE OUT WHICH LAND DINOSAUR WAS THE FASTEST SWIMMER.

The lifeguard says, OKAY, JUST BE CAREFUL.

Dex says, AROUND GIANT PREHISTORIC CREATURES? ALWAYS.

He grins. The lifeguard nods.

[Dinosaur bellowing]

A Tsintaosaurus looks down at Dex in the water.

Dex says, NOW'S MY CHANCE! MAMA TSINTAOSAURUS, COME IN HERE AND GET ME! SHOW ME HOW FAST YOU CAN SWIM!

Dex swims toward the edge of the pool.

[Tsintaosaurus braying]

Someone shouts, DONE!

[Tsintaosaurus braying]

The Tsintaosaurus turns away. At the edge of the pool with Dex, Kayla slaps her watch.

[Watch beeping]

Kayla wears a pink swim shirt and goggles.

[Thudding]

Dex says, MAMA TSINTAO, COME BACK!

He looks disappointed.

[Distant braying]

Kayla looks disappointed.

She says, UGH. NOT AGAIN.

Dex says, KAYLA, WHAT'S WRONG?

Kayla says, TO PASS MY SWIM TEST, I HAVE TO SWIM ACROSS THE POOL AND BACK IN 30 SECONDS OR LESS. EVERY TIME I TRY, I TAKE 55 SECONDS.

Dex says, IF ONLY THERE WERE A WAY TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT HOW TO SWIM FASTER.

Kayla says, I FEEL LIKE YOU ALREADY KNOW.

Dex says, THERE IS, AND AS A BONUS, IT HELP ME SOLVE DINO EXPERIMENT 10-03. WHICH LAND DINO COULD SWIM THE FASTEST.

[Dinosaur bellowing]

Dex and Kayla look across the pool at a Tsintaosaurus.

Dex says, TSINTAOSAURUS, A MEGARAPTOR,
OR THE TYRANNOSAURUS REX.

A Megaraptor walks alongside the pool. A Tyrannosaurus rex walks down a path outside.

[Tyrannosaurus rex roaring]

Kayla asks, DINOSAURS CAN SWIM?

Dex says, DINOS ARE JUST LIKE OTHER ANIMALS. SOME ARE GREAT SWIMMERS, SOME ARE JUST OKAY, AND SOME ARE TERRIBLE. IF WE LEARN FROM THE
GREAT ONES…

Kayla says, THEN I'LL BE ABLE TO PASS MY TEST!

Dex says, EXACTLY!

He starts to climb out of the pool.

Kayla says, THE DINOSAURS ARE OVER THERE, DEX.

She points toward the dinosaurs on the other side of the pool.

Dex says, WE HAVE TO DO SOME RESEARCH TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THEM INTO THE WATER.

Kayla grins and climbs out of the pool with Dex.

[Gentle music plays]

Elsewhere in the pool, women peddle exercise bikes in shallow water. Their knees splash out of the water as they pedal. A woman wearing her long black hair in a ponytail struggles with the pedals of her bike.

[Splashing]

Kayla and Dex wade through the water toward the black-haired woman.

Kayla says, HI, MOM.

Dex says, HI, KAYLA'S MOM.

Kayla’s mom, the black-haired woman, says, HEY, YOU TWO. DONE SWIMMING? WE CAN GO.

She starts to climb off the exercise bike. Dex and Kayla hold up their hands.

Dex says, NO, WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED ON A DINO EXPERIMENT. WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHICH LAND DINO WAS THE FASTEST SWIMMER. BOTH FOR MY DINO FIELD GUIDE AND FOR KAYLA.

Kayla’s mom furrows her brow.

Kayla says, DEX THINKS I SHOULD SWIM LIKE THE FASTEST DINO TO PASS MY SWIM TEST.

Her mom says, SMART THINKING! HOW DO WE FIGURE IT OUT?

Dex says, IF YOU LOOK UP ANIMALS THAT CAN SWIM, THEN IT MIGHT GIVE US SOME IDEAS ON HOW TO GET THE DINOS IN THE WATER.

Kayla’s mom says, ON IT.

She stops peddling and pulls her phone off a stand on the bike.

She says, OH, THAT FEELS GOOD.

Kayla’s mom rubs her leg and types on her phone.

She says, OKAY. ANIMALS THAT CAN SWIM.

[Animal grunting]

Kayla’s mom frowns and shows Dex and Kayla her phone.

She says, THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT.

A video on Kayla’s mom’s phone shows a moose swimming in deep water.

Dex says, MOOSE SWIM?!

Kayla says, THAT'S SO COOL!

Her mom says, IT SAYS HERE, MOOSE ARE AMAZING SWIMMERS AND PRETTY GOOD DIVERS. THEY FORAGE FOR UNDERWATER PLANTS.

Dex says, THAT MEANS THEY ARE HERBIVORES, LIKE THE TSINTAOSURUS.

He looks at his flip-flop and snorkel crest.

Kayla says, I WONDER IF THE TSINTAOSAURUS SWIMS LIKE A MOOSE?

Dex says, IF SHE DOES, I CAN BET SHE SWIMS FAST. LET'S GO TEST IT. THANKS, KAYLA'S MOM!

He wades through the shallow water with Kayla.

Kayla’s mom says, UH, COME BACK IF YOU NEED ANYTHING!

She slides her phone back into the stand on the bike.

She says, ONLY 25 MINUTES TO GO.

Kayla’s mom reluctantly starts peddling. In the deep end, Dex dips a piece of lettuce in the water using a pool net.

In the water, Kayla asks, WHY ARE YOU PUTTING LETTUCE IN THE POOL AGAIN?

Dex says, MOOSE SWIM TO EAT PLANTS IN THE WATER. MAYBE TSINTAOSAURUS SWIMS FOR THE SAME REASON.

[Dinosaur bellowing]

A Tsintaosaurus walks through the water in the shallow end.

Dex says, SHE'S IN! NOW'S YOUR CHANCE, KAYLA!

Kayla slides on her sunglasses. She takes a deep breath and ducks underwater.

[Underwater bellowing]

Kayla watches the Tsintaosaurus swim toward the deep end. The Tsintaosaurus paddles through the water like a dog. Kayla swims back to the surface and takes off her goggles.

Kayla says, SHE DOES SWIM FAST LIKE A MOOSE! EXCEPT MOSTLY WITH HER BACK LEGS.

Dex says, THEN SWIM LIKE A TSINTAOSAURUS! USE YOUR ARMS AND YOUR LEGS LIKE SHE DOES.

Kayla nods and starts her watch timer.

[Watch beeping]

Kayla puts on her goggles and swims across the pool like a Tsintaosaurus.

[Tsintaosaurus bellowing]

Dex says, YOU SWIM LIKE A MOOSE, MAMA TSINTAO, BUT DO YOU FORAGE LIKE ONE?

He dumps the lettuce in the water.

[Tsintaosaurus bellowing]

The Tsintaosaurus eats the lettuce and dives deeper underwater.

Dex says, SHE DOES! NICE UNDERWATER EATING, MAMA.

At the edge of the pool, Kayla slaps her watch.

She says, DONE!

[Watch beeping]

Kayla takes off her goggles and looks at her watch.

[Kayla groaning]

Dex asks, NOT GOOD?

Kayla says, NO. FORTY-FIVE SECONDS. FASTER THAN BEFORE, BUT STILL NOT UNDER 30 SECONDS.

Dex says, DON'T WORRY, KAYLA. THERE'S STILL TWO MORE DINOS TO TEST. THE MEGARAPTOR AND THE T-REX.

Kayla smiles. In the exercise bike section of the pool, Kayla’s mom looks tired. Dex and Kayla walk over.

Panting, Kayla’s mom asks, HOW GOES THE...

Dex says, DINO EXPERIMENT? SO FAR, INCREDIBLE. THE TSINTAOSAURUS SWIMS AND FORAGES LIKE A MOOSE!

Still panting, Kayla’s mom asks, AND THE SWIM TIME?

Kayla says, LESS INCREDIBLE. I'M STILL NOT FAST ENOUGH TO PASS MY SWIM TEST.

Kayla’s mom says, THAT SEEMS LIKE ANOTHER GOOD REASON TO PAUSE.

She stops peddling and checks her phone.

Kayla’s mom says, ANIMALS THAT CAN SWIM.

Dex asks, CAN YOU ADD "FEATHERED"? MEGARAPTORS HAVE FEATHERS.

Kayla nods.

Her mom says, FEATHERED ANIMALS THAT CAN SWIM.

Kayla’s mom shows Dex and Kayla a video of a bird.

[Bird hooting]

Kayla’s mom says, THE OSPREY.

The bird, an Osprey, dives into a lake.

Dex says, FASCINATING.

Kayla says, I HAD NO IDEA BIRDS SWAM.

Her mom says, IT SAYS HERE THEY USUALLY DON'T, BUT CAN IF THEY NEED TO. LOOKS LIKE SHE'S MOVING HER WINGS LIKE THIS, TO GET OUT.

She waves her arms in circles. A curly-haired woman on a bike glances at Kayla’s mom. Kayla’s mom stops waving her arms.

Kayla says, I WONDER IF MEGARAPTORS DO THE SAME THING?!

Dex says, ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT!

Kayla says, BUT DO YOU HAVE ANY CARNIVORE BAIT?

Dex says, YOU'RE LOOKING AT IT.

He holds his flip-flop and snorkel crest over his head.

[Kayla giggling]

Dex and Kayla leave. Kayla’s mom clips her phone into its stand and continues peddling.

[Intense music plays]

In the deep end, a Megaraptor stomps alongside the pool.

Dex says, SNORT, SNORT!

[Megaraptor roaring]

Dex says, SNORT, SNORT!

[Megaraptor roaring]

The Megaraptor looks down at Dex floating by the edge of the pool. Dex wears his Tsintaosaurus crest.

Dex says, SNORT, SNORT! I'M A BABY TSINTAOSAURUS!! I HOPE NO PREDATORS WANT TO SHOW ME HOW THEY SWIM BY HUNTING ME, EVEN THOUGH I'M SUPER YUMMY!

Dex swims away from the edge of the pool.

He says, SNORT, SNORT! SNORT, SNORT!

[Megaraptor snarling]

The Megaraptor steps onto a diving board and leaps into the pool.

[Splashing]

Dex says, KAYLA, NOW'S YOUR CHANCE!

Kayla pulls on her goggles and sinks underwater. She watches the Megaraptor swim around the deep end with its front arms. The Megaraptor kicks its legs, and Kayla grins. Kayla swims to the surface.

Kayla says, HE SWIMS JUST LIKE AN OSPREY! USING HIS STRONG WINGS TO PULL HIMSELF FORWARD. BUT HE ALSO KICKS HIS LEGS. HE'S ACTUALLY SURPRISINGLY FAST.

Dex says, NOW SWIM LIKE A MEGARAPTOR! USE YOUR ARMS LIKE WINGS, AND YOUR FEET TO KICK!

Kayla swims across the pool. Dex swims toward the edge of the pool.

[Megaraptor snarling]

Dex says, GOT TO SWIM FASTER!

[Intense music plays]

The Megaraptor glides through the water.

[Megaraptor roaring]

Dex says, BUT I DON'T THINK I CAN!

He grabs onto the edge of the pool and looks up.

[Tsintaosaurus braying]

A Tsintaosaurus looks down at Dex.

[Tsintaosaurus bellowing]

The Megaraptor stops and looks up at the Tsintaosaurus.

[Megaraptor grunting]

The Megaraptor swims away from Dex.

Dex says, THANKS, MAMA TSINTAOSAURUS. SNORT, SNORT!

[Tsintaosaurus braying]

Kayla returns to her starting point.

She says, DONE!

She takes her goggles off and checks her watch.

[Kayla groaning]

Kayla says, 35 SECONDS! EVEN FASTER THAN BEFORE, BUT STILL NOT UNDER 30 SECONDS.

She pulls herself out of the pool and angrily walks away. At the pool's shallow end, Kayla sits on the edge with her feet in the water. Dex walks over with his goggles and Tsintaosaurus crest.

Dex asks, YOU OKAY?

Kayla says, OBVIOUSLY NOT. I'M NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO PASS MY TEST.

Dex takes a seat beside Kayla and dips his feet in the water.

Dex says, YOU KNOW, DINOS WEREN'T ALWAYS THE BIGGEST, FIERCEST CREATURES ON THE PLANET.

Kayla furrows her brow.

She asks, REALLY?

Dex says, REALLY. WHEN THEY FIRST SHOWED UP, THEY WERE SMALL, KIND OF WEAK, NOT GREAT HUNTERS. BUT OVER 165 MILLION YEARS, THEY KEPT TRYING, AND EVENTUALLY, DINOSAURS EVOLVED INTO THE MOST FEARSOME BEINGS TO EVER WALK THE EARTH.

Kayla says, SO, YOU'RE SAYING IF I KEEP TRYING, I MIGHT EVOLVE INTO A GOOD SWIMMER?

Dex says, IT'S JUST A THEORY.

Kayla says, I LIKE IT! BUT DO YOU THINK THE T-REX IS THE KING OF THE DINOSAURS AND THE KING OF SWIMMING?

[Fearsome roaring]

Dex and Kayla look behind them at a T-rex outside.

[T-rex roaring]

Kayla asks, RESEARCH TIME?

Dex says, RACE YOU THERE!

Dex and Kayla climb out of the pool and hurry toward the exercise bike section of the pool. The lifeguard spots them from his chair and blows his whistle.

[Whistle blaring]

The lifeguard says, NO RUNNING!

Dex and Kayla walk alongside the pool. In the bike section, Kayla’s mom smiles.

Kayla’s mom says, GREAT!

She stops peddling her bike.

She says, ALREADY TYPING "ANIMALS THAT CAN SWIM."

Kayla asks, CAN YOU ADD "BIG PREDATOR" TO THAT? T-REXES ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST CARNIVORES, RIGHT?

Dex nods and says, CORRECT!

Kayla’s mom says, GOT IT!

She shows Dex and Kayla a video on her phone of a tiger swimming.

[Roaring]

Kayla says, TIGERS CAN SWIM?

Dex says, I THOUGHT CATS DIDN'T LIKE WATER.

Kayla’s mom says, MOST CATS DON'T, AND TIGERS DON'T LIKE WATER IN THEIR EYES OR ON THEIR HEADS, SO THEY USE THEIR LEGS TO SWIM TO CATCH PREY.

Dex asks, YOU WANT TO SEE IF A T-REX SWIMS LIKE A TIGER?

Kayla says, ABSOLUTELY. HAVE FUN, MOM! YOU'RE ALMOST FINISHED.

She and Dex leave. Kayla’s mom clips her phone into the phone stand and starts peddling.

[Kayla’s mom roaring like a tiger]

[Splashing]

In the deep end, a T-rex stomps alongside the water.

[T-rex snorting]

Dex says, SNORT, SNORT! SNORT, SNORT!

He and Kayla hold onto the edge of the pool. Dex wears his Tsintaosaurus crest.

Dex asks, READY?

Kayla nods and says, READY!

Dex says, HEY, T-REX, YOU WANT TO EAT A TASTY –

The T-rex jumps in the water.

[Splashing]

Dex says, WHOA! SHE'S ALREADY CHASING ME! NOW'S YOUR CHANCE, KAYLA!

He swims away from the edge. Kayla slides on her goggles and sinks into the water. She watches the T-rex swim around the deep end and kick its legs. Kayla grins and swims back to the surface.

Kayla says, T-REX IS USING HER POWERFUL LEGS LIKE A TIGER'S, AND KEEPING HER HEAD UP! SHE'S ALSO SURPRISINGLY FAST!

Dex swims across the pool away from the T-rex.

Dex says, YES, SHE IS! NOW SWIM LIKE A T-REX! KICK THOSE LEGS!

Kayla swims across the pool.

[Inspirational music plays]

Kayla reaches the other end of the pool and turns around. The T-rex swims toward Dex.

[T-rex grunting]

At her starting point, Kayla stops her timer.

[Watch beeping]

Kayla says, DONE!

She takes off her goggles and checks her watch.

[Kayla gasping]

Kayla says, 20.7 SECONDS, DEX! WE DID IT!

Dex says, COOL, 'CAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN SWIM ANYMORE!

He slowly swims toward the edge of the pool.

Kayla says, I HAVE TO HELP DEX!

She turns to a pair of swim fins.

Kayla says, I HAVE AN IDEA.

She slides on her goggles and holds one of the fins over her head like a Tsintaosaurus crest.

Kayla says, SNORT! HEY, T-REX! COME AFTER THIS BABY TSINTAOSAURUS! SNORT!

The T-rex turns toward Kayla.

[T-rex roaring]

[Intense music plays]

Dex warns, KAYLA, WATCH OUT FOR HER TEETH!

Kayla says, ALL I CAN SEE ARE TEETH!

[T-rex roaring fearsomely]

Kayla takes a deep breath and sinks underwater. The T-rex snaps its jaw.

[T-rex snapping]

The T-rex looks around in confusion, then turns away.

[Inspirational music plays]

Kayla swims to the surface, and Dex joins her at the edge of the pool. Kayla drops the swim fin beside the other fin and takes off her goggles.

Kayla says, I REMEMBERED TIGERS DON'T LIKE TO GET THEIR HEADS WET.
LOOKS LIKE T-REXES DON'T, EITHER.

Dex takes off his goggles.

He says, AND JUST LIKE A TIGER IS FASTER THAN THE OSPREY AND THE MOOSE?

Kayla says, THE T-REX IS FASTER THAN THE MEGARAPTOR AND THE TSINTAOSAURUS.

Together, Kayla and Dex say, DINO EXPERIMENT 10-03, COMPLETE!

They high-five with their fingers curled like claws and pump their fists.

Kayla says, AND DEX, THANKS TO YOU, NOW I CAN PASS MY SWIM TEST. BUT FIRST, I HAVE AN IDEA FOR ANOTHER EXPERIMENT. WHO CAN MAKE THE BIGGEST CANNONBALL SPLASH?

Dex says, THAT'S EASY! ME.

Kayla says, NO WAY! IT'S ME!

Kayla’s mom says, NO, IT'S ME!

She cannonballs into the pool.

[Splashing]

[Kayla yelping]

[Kayla and Dex laughing]

Kayla’s mom pops out of the water and shakes her head.

She says, NUMBER ONE!

[Laughing]

Dex says, NO WAY!

Kayla says, WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT.

She climbs out of the water.

She says, I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT A REAL CANNONBALL LOOKS LIKE.

Dex climbs out of the water. Kayla cannonballs into the pool.

[Kayla cheering]

[Splashing]

Dex shouts, CANNONBALL!

He jumps in the water. Behind the row of diving boards, the T-rex raises its head.

[T-rex roaring]

[Intense music plays]
