[Intense music plays]
The skeleton of a T-rex spreads its jaw.
[T-rex roaring]
Wearing knitted dinosaur hats, Dex and Kayla roar like dinosaurs. Dex has short black hair, and Kayla has long black hair and glasses.
[Dex and Kayla roaring]
Dex and Kayla chase after different dinosaurs. In a park, they run from a dinosaur. In a community pool, a dinosaur jumps in the water.
[Dinosaur grunting]
[Splashing]
Green and purple crystals form the title among dinosaur fossils. Dex reads the title.
Dex says, DINO DEX!

At the park in Dex and Kayla’s neighbourhood, a dinosaur hits the episode title with its club tail.
[Cracking]
The dinosaur, an Ankylosaurus, swings its tail.
[Ankylosaurus roaring]
The Ankylosaurus looks up at a T-rex.
[T-rex snarling]
The T-rex leans toward the Ankylosaurus. The Ankylosaurus hits the T-rex in the head with the club on its tail.
[T-rex grunting]
The T-rex falls.
[Thudding]
Dex watches the two dinosaurs from a picnic table by the swing set. He sits at the table with his dino backpack and field guide.
Dex says, OOH! ATTEMPT NUMBER 14 FAILED. THE T-REX STILL WASN'T ABLE TO GET PAST THE ANKYLOSAURUS' DEFENCES.
The T-rex stands up.
[T-rex roaring]
Dex works on a drawing of a T-rex and Ankylosaurus fighting.
Dex says, PREPARING FOR ATTEMPT NUMBER 15.
[Swing set squeaking]
Dex looks over his shoulder.
He says, KAYLA, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
On a swing, Kayla holds a sketchbook. She stops swinging and looks over at Dex.
Kayla says, WHAT? OH, YES! UM, ATTEMPT NUMBER 15.
She quickly starts writing. Kayla is wearing a white T-shirt with pink gems and denim shorts.
[Scribbling]
Dex says, WAIT. WHAT ARE YOU DRAWING?
Kayla says, OH. DINO EXPERIMENT 10-1-SOMETHING. HOW DID THAT BIG-TOOTHED MEAT-EATER GET THAT HAMMER-TAIL VEGGIE GUY?
Dex looks back at the T-rex and Ankylosaurus.
Dex says, DINO EXPERIMENT 10-1-7. HOW DID CARNIVORES GET PAST HERBIVORES' DEFENCES.
Dex closes the dino field guide and carries it to the swing set.
He says, HERBIVORES LIKE THE TRICERATOPS, THE DREADNOUGHTUS, AND ANKYLOSAURUS.
A Triceratops and Dreadnoughtus stand by the Ankylosaurus.
[Dinosaurs braying]
Kayla says, THAT'S BASICALLY WHAT I SAID.
Dex sits on the swing beside Kayla.
He says, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU DREW.
Dex looks at Kayla’s drawing of a superhero with long black hair wearing a green costume.
Dex asks, WHO'S THAT?
Kayla says, NO ONE.
Dex says, COME ON, SHOW ME.
Kayla says, NO, IT'S NOT THAT GOOD.
[Grunting]
Kayla says, LOOK! SHE'S ATTACKING AGAIN!
Dex glances toward the dinosaurs.
He looks back at Kayla and says, PLEASE?
[Kayla sighing]
Kayla shows Dex her superhero drawing. The superhero’s costume includes a mask, gloves and a skirt.
Kayla says, I TOLD YOU IT WASN'T THAT GOOD. YOU'RE THE DRAWER.
Dex says, YOU'RE RIGHT, IT'S NOT THAT GOOD.
Kayla frowns at Dex.
Dex says, IT'S GREAT! WHO IS SHE?
Kayla says, ROCK GIRL! SHE'S A SUPERHERO I LIKE TO DRAW SOMETIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN I GET BORED.
[Dinosaur snarling in the distance]
Dex asks, ROCK GIRL?
Kayla says, SHE'S MADE OF PERIDOTITE, WHICH IS ONE OF THE HEAVIEST ROCKS IN THE WORLD.
She grabs a green rock out of her bag.
Kayla says, SO, SHE'S SUPER STRONG AND BASICALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE.
She tosses the rock to Dex.
[Dex grunting]
Dex says, SUPER HEAVY. ROCK GIRL'S COOL, JUST NOT AS POWERFUL AS THE SUPERHERO I CREATED.
Dex grins and gives Kayla her rock back.
Kayla asks, YOU LIKE SUPERHEROES?
Dex says, I'M NOT ONLY INTO DINOSAURS, KAYLA. HIS NAME IS: DINO BOY!
He opens the dino field guide to a drawing of a superhero with short black hair who wears a gold cape over his superhero costume.
Dex says, HE CAN TRANSFORM INTO ANY DINOSAUR HE WANTS.
Kayla looks at Dex’s drawings. Dex flips the page to a drawing of Dino Boy wrapping his cape around himself and transforming into a blue dinosaur with horns.
Dex says, LIKE THE KOSMOCERATOPS - THE CERATOPSIAN WITH THE MOST HORNS.
Kayla looks amazed. Dex flips to another drawing of Dino Boy transforming into a yellow and orange dinosaur.
Dex says, OR COMPSOGNATHUS - A FAST MEAT-EATING DINO.
The dinosaur, a Compsognathus, stands on its two chicken-like feet and has chicken claw-like hands. Dex flips to another Dino-Boy transformation drawing.
Dex says, OR THE T-REX - THE KING OF THE DINOS.
Kayla shows Dex a drawing of Rock Girl pointing toward an Ankylosaurus.
Kayla says, SHE COULD TAKE HIM.
Dex asks, WHY IS SHE PUNCHING THE ANKYLOSAURUS?
Kayla says, SHE'S NOT. SHE'S TRYING TO FLIP HIM OVER. YOU SAID THEY'RE COVERED IN ARMOUR, RIGHT?
Dex nods.
Kayla says, SEE? I WAS LISTENING.
Dex looks back at the Ankylosaurus.
He says, THEY EVEN HAVE ARMOUR ON THEIR EYELIDS.
[Ankylosaurus braying]
Kayla says, AND THEY'VE GOT THAT WHACKING HAMMER ON THE END.
Dex says, PALAEONTOLOGISTS CALL IT A "CLUB TAIL."
The Ankylosaurus bangs its club tail against the ground.
[Thudding]
[Ankylosaurus growling]
Kayla asks, SO, WOULDN'T FLIPPING IT OVER BE THE BEST WAY TO GET PAST THOSE DEFENCES?
Dex looks thoughtful.
He says, THEIR UNDERSIDES ARE THE ONLY PART OF THEIR BODY WITHOUT THICK ARMOUR.
Kayla says, DINO EXPERIMENT COMPLETE. FINALLY.
She rolls her eyes. She looks at Dex and smiles.
Kayla calls out, YOU'RE WELCOME. GO FOR THE BELLY, BIG FELLA!
The T-rex nods and stomps toward the Ankylosaurus.
[T-rex roaring]
Dex says, I THINK THERE'S A BETTER WAY TO TEST YOUR THEORY.
Kayla furrows her brow.
Dex says, PALEOART, LIKE OURS, LET’S ARTISTS IMAGINE HOW PREHISTORIC CREATURES LIVED. BUT THAT'S NOT THE ONLY WAY TO IMAGINE.
Kayla looks confused.
Dex says, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, ROCK GIRL?
Kayla excitedly asks, REALLY?
She looks at her drawing of Rock Girl and the Ankylosaurus.
[Intense music plays]
Later in the park, the Ankylosaurus looks around.
[Ankylosaurus grunting]
[Ankylosaurus roaring]
Kayla is Rock Girl. She walks up to the Ankylosaurus wearing a white turtleneck and tights under green chest armour, a skirt, boots, gloves and a mask. Kayla wears her hair in a high ponytail. The Ankylosaurus raises its club tail. Kayla punches one hand into the palm of the other, and sparks flicker.
[Sparks zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!
[Ankylosaurus grunting]
At the picnic table, Dex writes in the dino field guide.
Dex says, ATTEMPT NUMBER 15.
He draws Rock Girl charging the Ankylosaurus.
Dex says, ROCK GIRL WILL TRY TO GET PAST THE ANKYLOSAURUS' DEFENCES BY USING HER SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH TO FLIP HIM OVER!
[Ankylosaurus bellowing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla charges toward the Ankylosaurus. The Ankylosaurus swings its club tail at her. Kayla ducks and narrowly avoids the club.
Ankylosaurus yelps, WHA!
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, HA! NICE TRY.
[Ankylosaurus growling]
As Rock Girl, Kayla blocks the Ankylosaurus’ club with her hands.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla’s hands glow green.
[Ankylosaurus groaning]
[Kayla grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla flips the Ankylosaurus onto its back.
She says, HA! TOO EASY!
She spreads her arms.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT!
Dex says, NICE JOB, ROCK GIRL. ATTEMPT NUMBER 15 IS A SUCCESS!
He glances at his drawing of Rock Girl beside the Ankylosaurus on its back.
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE THEIR BELLIES ARE THEIR ONLY WEAK SPOT.
[Ankylosaurus braying]
[Kayla sighing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, I FEEL BAD FOR THEM, ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SOMETHING TRYING TO EAT THEM.
[Ankylosaurus roaring]
As Rock Girl, Ankylosaurus yelps, WHOA!
On its back, the Ankylosaurus jerks and swings its tail. As Rock Girl, Kayla jumps over it.
Dex says, DON'T FEEL BAD. CARNIVORES ARE TRYING TO SURVIVE, JUST LIKE HERBIVORES.
As Rock Girl, Kayla nods.
Dex adds, AND WITHOUT CARNIVORES, THERE'D BE SO MANY HERBIVORES THAT THEY'D EAT ALL THE PLANTS UNTIL THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT, AND THEN –
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, EVERYTHING WOULD GO EXTINCT?
Dex says, EXACTLY.
[Ankylosaurus grumbling]
The Ankylosaurus rolls onto its feet.
[Ankylosaurus bellowing]
The Ankylosaurus slams the club of its tail on the ground and walks away.
[Thudding]
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, SO, WHO'S UP NEXT? THAT ONE WAS WAY TOO EAS – AAH!
A Triceratops slams into Kayla, as Rock Girl, from behind with its snout.
[Kayla screaming]
The Triceratops stumbles back.
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla falls onto the grass beside the picnic table.
[Kayla groaning]
Dex cringes.
He says, TRICERATOPS, NAMED AFTER THEIR THREE HORNS, WHICH THEY USE TO –
As Rock Girl, Kayla stands.
In annoyance, she asks, SLAM INTO CARNIVORES?
Dex says, AND EACH OTHER. PALAEONTOLOGISTS THINKTHAT BOY TRICERATOPS
WOULD CHALLENGE OTHER BOYS TO SHOW WHO WAS THE STRONGEST.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LOOKS LIKE HE'S GOING UP AGAINST A GIRL TODAY!
She raises her arms and charges toward the Triceratops.
[Kayla yelling]
Dex shouts, WAIT!
As Rock Girl, Kayla stops and looks back at Dex.
Dex says, THINK IT THROUGH.
[Triceratops groaning]
As Rock Girl, Kayla looks at the Triceratops. The Triceratops stomps toward her.
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl Kayla says, THREE HORN'S BAD.
She slowly lowers her arms.
Dex says, YES, THEIR HORNS ARE THEIR MAIN DEFENCE. SO, CARNIVORES WOULD HAVE TO THINK OF A WAY TO GET AROUND THEM.
As Rock Girl, Kayla smiles.
She says, AROUND THEM, HUH?
She punches the palm of her hand and sparks fly.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL.
She raises her hands and charges toward the Triceratops.
[Kayla yelling fiercely]
Kayla spins toward the Triceratops.
[Kayla grunting]
The Triceratops dodges a kick.
[Triceratops snarling]
Dex draws Kayla, as Dino Girl, gripping the horn on the Triceratops’ snout.
He says, DINO EXPERIMENT 1017 CONTINUED. ATTEMPT NUMBER ONE: ROCK GIRL TRIES TO GET PAST THE TRICERATOPS' DEFENCES.
[Thudding]
Dex looks up from his drawing.
He asks, ANY LUCK?
[Triceratops snorting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla holds the Triceratops’ snout horn with her glowing hands.
She says, JUST. GIVE ME. A SECOND.
[Triceratops roaring]
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE ROCK GIRL HAS MET HER MATCH.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, NEVER!
[Triceratops grunting]
The Triceratops pushes against Kayla, as Rock Girl. Kayla slides backward across the grass.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, OKAY, MAYBE.
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE NOT FAST ENOUGH TO GET PAST THOSE THREE HORNS. PREPARING FOR ATTEMPT NUMBER TWO.
As Rock Girl, Kayla looks thoughtful.
She says, BECAUSE I'M TOO HEAVY.
She looks over at Dex.
She says, COLOUR ME LIGHT GREY!
Dex says, I DON'T THINK A DIFFERENT COLOUR WILL –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and says, JUST LIKE DINO BOY CAN TRANSFORM INTO DIFFERENT DINOSAURS, ROCK GIRL CAN CHANGE INTO DIFFERENT ROCKS. ROCKS LIKE PUMICE!
Dex says, AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT THAT IS?
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, YOU DON'T KNOW PUMICE?
Dex says, YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE "REX" IN "T-REX" MEANT "KING" UNTIL I TOLD YOU.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, NO, I KNEW. I JUST DIDN'T CARE.
She struggles against the Triceratops.
[Triceratops roaring]
Dex looks annoyed.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, PUMICE IS THE LIGHTEST ROCK IN THE WORLD. CHECK IN MY BAG.
[Triceratops braying]
Dex takes a rock out of Kayla’s dino backpack.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, SEE HOW LIGHT IT IS?
Dex says, IT IS LIGHT.
He tosses the rock in one hand.
Dex says, IF ROCK GIRL WAS LIGHTER, SHE'D BE –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and yells, FASTER!
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, AAAAH! HURRY!
Dex quickly puts the rock down and grabs a grey pencil crayon.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, FASTER, DEX!
Dex says, YOU CAN'T RUSH ART!
He starts colouring his drawing with the grey pencil crayon.
[Kayla grunting]
Dex finishes colouring the drawing.
He says, DONE!
[Triceratops growling]
Kayla, as Rock Girl, in a now grey costume, pushes the Triceratops back.
She says, HA!
The Triceratops charges toward Kayla, as Rock Girl.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yelps, WHOA!
She jumps away from the Triceratops.
She says, I'M TOO FAST FOR YOU!
The Triceratops charges again.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yelps, AAH!
She spins away.
She says, PHEW! HA!
As Rock Girl, Kayla dodges multiple attacks. The Triceratops slips and falls.
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla grabs one of the Triceratops’ horns, and grey light shines from her gloves.
[Sparks zapping]
Dex watches in amazement.
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, DO YOU SURRENDER?
[Triceratops braying]
As Rock Girl, Kayla raises her hands and steps away from the Triceratops.
She cheers, WHOO-HOO!
As Rock Girl, Kayla lowers her arms and looks around.
She says, SUPER CHILL!
The Triceratops stands and leaves.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, DRAW ME LIKE THIS.
She poses with her hands on her hips.
Dex says, I THINK YOUR THEORY IS RIGHT, ROCK GIRL.
He walks over with the dino field guide.
He says, CARNIVORES WOULD HAVE TO BE QUICK TO GET PAST THE TRICERATOPS' HORNS.
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, WHICH WAS THE THIRD PLANT-EATER AGAIN?
THE DREAD –
[Roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla looks up.
[Kayla yelling]
As Rock Girl, Kayla blocks a Dreadnoughtus foot with her powers and drops to one knee.
[Kayla grunting]
Dex says, DREADNOUGHTUS.
The Dreadnoughtus curls its long tail toward Kayla, as Rock Girl, and Dex.
Dex says, ONE OF THE LARGEST DINOSAURS THAT EVER EXISTED.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, YES, I BELIEVE YOU!
[Kayla grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, BUT I CAN STILL WIN.
She shoves the Dreadnoughtus’ foot away.
[Kayla grunting]
[Loud thudding]
As Rock Girl, Kayla starts to say, LET'S –
Dex says, MAKE OBSERVATIONS, THEN COME UP WITH A THEORY WE CAN TEST.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, I ONLY NEED ONE TEST.
She waves Dex away. Dex backs up.
[Dreadnoughtus grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla punches her fist into her palm.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!
[Dreadnoughtus grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla charges toward the Dreadnoughtus. Dex watches with concern.
[Kayla yelling fiercely]
As Rock Girl, Kayla runs at the Dreadnoughtus from behind. The Dreadnoughtus swings its tail and knocks her aside.
[Kayla screaming]
Dex’s gaze moves across the park.
[Thudding]
Dex flinches.
He says, OOH.
He takes a seat on the grass and opens the dino field guide.
Dex says, DINO EXPERIMENT 1017 CONTINUED.
He draws a Dreadnoughtus.
Dex says, EVEN WITH HER SUPER-STRENGTH AND SUPER-SPEED, ROCK GIRL WAS NOT ABLE TO GET PAST THE DREADNOUGHTUS' DEFENCES.
He draws Kayla, as Rock Girl, soaring through the sir.
[Dreadnoughtus braying]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, FINE.
She walks over to Dex.
She says, MAKE SOME OBSERVATIONS.
Dex says, GREAT!
He closes the dino guide and stands.
Dex says, IT'S MY FAVOURITE PART. DREADNOUGHTUS' NAME MEANS "FEAR NOTHING," BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BIG THAT LITERALLY –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and asks, NOTHING COULD SCARE THEM?
Dex says, THEY WEIGHED AS MUCH AS FOUR T-REXES.
He and Kayla, as Rock Girl, look over at the Dreadnoughtus.
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
The Dreadnoughtus stomps toward the playground.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED DREADNOUGHTUS REX, BECAUSE THEY'RE CLEARLY THE KING OF THE DINOSAURS.
Dex shrugs and says, WE'D HAVE TO CALL KENNETH LACOVARA, WHO DISCOVERED THE DREADNOUGHTUS, TO SEE IF HE'D –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and says, I WAS KIDDING. BUT I AM GOING TO NEED SOME HELP.
She puts her hands on her hips.
She says, DINO BOY, WOULD YOU HELP ME TEST MY THEORY THAT IT WOULD TAKE MORE THAN ONE CARNIVORE TO GET PAST THE DREADNOUGHTUS' SIZE DEFENCES?
Dex smiles and says, I'D BE HONOURED.
As Rock Girl, Kayla punches her fist into her palm.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!
She charges toward the Dreadnoughtus with Dex.
[Dreadnoughtus braying]
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
[Intense music plays]
As Rock Girl, Kayla runs through the park with Dex, as Dino Boy. Dex wears Dino Boy’s costume, which includes a blue mask, gloves, boots and a copper-coloured cape over a dark rainbow-coloured suit.
As Dino Boy, Dex says, IT'S T-REX TIME!
He taps triangular dinosaur spikes on his glove and wraps his cape around himself. As Rock Girl, Kayla slows her pace and looks up.
[Thudding]
As Rock Girl, Kayla yelps, WHOA!
She ducks under the Dreadnoughtus’ tail.
[T-rex bellowing]
A T-rex catches the Dreadnoughtus’ tail in its mouth. The Dreadnoughtus pulls its tail free. As Rock Girl, Kayla looks up at the T-rex.
She says, WHOA! NICE WORK, DINO BOY.
Dex, as Dino Boy, is the T-Rex.
As Dino Boy in T-rex form, Dex says, THANKS! THAT MEANS A LOT COMING FROM –
The Dreadnoughtus hits Dex, as Dino Boy in T-rex form, with its tail.
As Dino Boy in T-rex form, Dex yells, AAH!
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, WHOA!
As Dino Boy in T-rex form, Dex hits the ground. He rolls across the ground and transforms back into a human.
[Dex grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, YOU OKAY?
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
The Dreadnoughtus knocks Kayla, as Rock Girl, off her feet with its head.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, WHOA!
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, WHOA!
She lands on her stomach on the grass beside Dex, as Dino Boy.
[Kayla grunting]
[Dreadnoughtus bellowing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla rolls onto her back.
She says, THAT WAS FUN!
As Dino Boy, Dex says, IT WAS, WASN'T IT?
[Kayla sighing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, SO, THERE WERE SOME HERBIVORES WHOSE DEFENCES CARNIVORES COULDN'T GET PAST. WHEN THEY WERE FULLY GROWN?
As Dino Boy, Dex says, LOOKS LIKE IT. DINO EXPERIMENT 1017…
He raises his hand with his fingers curled like claws.
He says, COMPLETE.
As Rock Girl, Kayla high-fives Dex, as Dino Boy, with her fingers curled like claws. They both raise their fists. They let their arms fall to the ground.
[Dex sighing tiredly]

At the park in Dex and Kayla’s neighbourhood, a dinosaur hits the episode title with its club tail.
[Cracking]
The dinosaur, an Ankylosaurus, swings its tail.
[Ankylosaurus roaring]
The Ankylosaurus looks up at a T-rex.
[T-rex snarling]
The T-rex leans toward the Ankylosaurus. The Ankylosaurus hits the T-rex in the head with the club on its tail.
[T-rex grunting]
The T-rex falls.
[Thudding]
Dex watches the two dinosaurs from a picnic table by the swing set. He sits at the table with his dino backpack and field guide.
Dex says, OOH! ATTEMPT NUMBER 14 FAILED. THE T-REX STILL WASN'T ABLE TO GET PAST THE ANKYLOSAURUS' DEFENCES.
The T-rex stands up.
[T-rex roaring]
Dex works on a drawing of a T-rex and Ankylosaurus fighting.
Dex says, PREPARING FOR ATTEMPT NUMBER 15.
[Swing set squeaking]
Dex looks over his shoulder.
He says, KAYLA, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?
On a swing, Kayla holds a sketchbook. She stops swinging and looks over at Dex.
Kayla says, WHAT? OH, YES! UM, ATTEMPT NUMBER 15.
She quickly starts writing. Kayla is wearing a white T-shirt with pink gems and denim shorts.
[Scribbling]
Dex says, WAIT. WHAT ARE YOU DRAWING?
Kayla says, OH. DINO EXPERIMENT 10-1-SOMETHING. HOW DID THAT BIG-TOOTHED MEAT-EATER GET THAT HAMMER-TAIL VEGGIE GUY?
Dex looks back at the T-rex and Ankylosaurus.
Dex says, DINO EXPERIMENT 10-1-7. HOW DID CARNIVORES GET PAST HERBIVORES' DEFENCES.
Dex closes the dino field guide and carries it to the swing set.
He says, HERBIVORES LIKE THE TRICERATOPS, THE DREADNOUGHTUS, AND ANKYLOSAURUS.
A Triceratops and Dreadnoughtus stand by the Ankylosaurus.
[Dinosaurs braying]
Kayla says, THAT'S BASICALLY WHAT I SAID.
Dex sits on the swing beside Kayla.
He says, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU DREW.
Dex looks at Kayla’s drawing of a superhero with long black hair wearing a green costume.
Dex asks, WHO'S THAT?
Kayla says, NO ONE.
Dex says, COME ON, SHOW ME.
Kayla says, NO, IT'S NOT THAT GOOD.
[Grunting]
Kayla says, LOOK! SHE'S ATTACKING AGAIN!
Dex glances toward the dinosaurs.
He looks back at Kayla and says, PLEASE?
[Kayla sighing]
Kayla shows Dex her superhero drawing. The superhero’s costume includes a mask, gloves and a skirt.
Kayla says, I TOLD YOU IT WASN'T THAT GOOD. YOU'RE THE DRAWER.
Dex says, YOU'RE RIGHT, IT'S NOT THAT GOOD.
Kayla frowns at Dex.
Dex says, IT'S GREAT! WHO IS SHE?
Kayla says, ROCK GIRL! SHE'S A SUPERHERO I LIKE TO DRAW SOMETIMES, ESPECIALLY WHEN I GET BORED.
[Dinosaur snarling in the distance]
Dex asks, ROCK GIRL?
Kayla says, SHE'S MADE OF PERIDOTITE, WHICH IS ONE OF THE HEAVIEST ROCKS IN THE WORLD.
She grabs a green rock out of her bag.
Kayla says, SO, SHE'S SUPER STRONG AND BASICALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE.
She tosses the rock to Dex.
[Dex grunting]
Dex says, SUPER HEAVY. ROCK GIRL'S COOL, JUST NOT AS POWERFUL AS THE SUPERHERO I CREATED.
Dex grins and gives Kayla her rock back.
Kayla asks, YOU LIKE SUPERHEROES?
Dex says, I'M NOT ONLY INTO DINOSAURS, KAYLA. HIS NAME IS: DINO BOY!
He opens the dino field guide to a drawing of a superhero with short black hair who wears a gold cape over his superhero costume.
Dex says, HE CAN TRANSFORM INTO ANY DINOSAUR HE WANTS.
Kayla looks at Dex’s drawings. Dex flips the page to a drawing of Dino Boy wrapping his cape around himself and transforming into a blue dinosaur with horns.
Dex says, LIKE THE KOSMOCERATOPS - THE CERATOPSIAN WITH THE MOST HORNS.
Kayla looks amazed. Dex flips to another drawing of Dino Boy transforming into a yellow and orange dinosaur.
Dex says, OR COMPSOGNATHUS - A FAST MEAT-EATING DINO.
The dinosaur, a Compsognathus, stands on its two chicken-like feet and has chicken claw-like hands. Dex flips to another Dino-Boy transformation drawing.
Dex says, OR THE T-REX - THE KING OF THE DINOS.
Kayla shows Dex a drawing of Rock Girl pointing toward an Ankylosaurus.
Kayla says, SHE COULD TAKE HIM.
Dex asks, WHY IS SHE PUNCHING THE ANKYLOSAURUS?
Kayla says, SHE'S NOT. SHE'S TRYING TO FLIP HIM OVER. YOU SAID THEY'RE COVERED IN ARMOUR, RIGHT?
Dex nods.
Kayla says, SEE? I WAS LISTENING.
Dex looks back at the Ankylosaurus.
He says, THEY EVEN HAVE ARMOUR ON THEIR EYELIDS.
[Ankylosaurus braying]
Kayla says, AND THEY'VE GOT THAT WHACKING HAMMER ON THE END.
Dex says, PALAEONTOLOGISTS CALL IT A "CLUB TAIL."
The Ankylosaurus bangs its club tail against the ground.
[Thudding]
[Ankylosaurus growling]
Kayla asks, SO, WOULDN'T FLIPPING IT OVER BE THE BEST WAY TO GET PAST THOSE DEFENCES?
Dex looks thoughtful.
He says, THEIR UNDERSIDES ARE THE ONLY PART OF THEIR BODY WITHOUT THICK ARMOUR.
Kayla says, DINO EXPERIMENT COMPLETE. FINALLY.
She rolls her eyes. She looks at Dex and smiles.
Kayla calls out, YOU'RE WELCOME. GO FOR THE BELLY, BIG FELLA!
The T-rex nods and stomps toward the Ankylosaurus.
[T-rex roaring]
Dex says, I THINK THERE'S A BETTER WAY TO TEST YOUR THEORY.
Kayla furrows her brow.
Dex says, PALEOART, LIKE OURS, LET’S ARTISTS IMAGINE HOW PREHISTORIC CREATURES LIVED. BUT THAT'S NOT THE ONLY WAY TO IMAGINE.
Kayla looks confused.
Dex says, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, ROCK GIRL?
Kayla excitedly asks, REALLY?
She looks at her drawing of Rock Girl and the Ankylosaurus.
[Intense music plays]
Later in the park, the Ankylosaurus looks around.
[Ankylosaurus grunting]
[Ankylosaurus roaring]
Kayla is Rock Girl. She walks up to the Ankylosaurus wearing a white turtleneck and tights under green chest armour, a skirt, boots, gloves and a mask. Kayla wears her hair in a high ponytail. The Ankylosaurus raises its club tail. Kayla punches one hand into the palm of the other, and sparks flicker.
[Sparks zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!
[Ankylosaurus grunting]
At the picnic table, Dex writes in the dino field guide.
Dex says, ATTEMPT NUMBER 15.
He draws Rock Girl charging the Ankylosaurus.
Dex says, ROCK GIRL WILL TRY TO GET PAST THE ANKYLOSAURUS' DEFENCES BY USING HER SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH TO FLIP HIM OVER!
[Ankylosaurus bellowing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla charges toward the Ankylosaurus. The Ankylosaurus swings its club tail at her. Kayla ducks and narrowly avoids the club.
Ankylosaurus yelps, WHA!
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, HA! NICE TRY.
[Ankylosaurus growling]
As Rock Girl, Kayla blocks the Ankylosaurus’ club with her hands.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla’s hands glow green.
[Ankylosaurus groaning]
[Kayla grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla flips the Ankylosaurus onto its back.
She says, HA! TOO EASY!
She spreads her arms.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT!
Dex says, NICE JOB, ROCK GIRL. ATTEMPT NUMBER 15 IS A SUCCESS!
He glances at his drawing of Rock Girl beside the Ankylosaurus on its back.
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE THEIR BELLIES ARE THEIR ONLY WEAK SPOT.
[Ankylosaurus braying]
[Kayla sighing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, I FEEL BAD FOR THEM, ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SOMETHING TRYING TO EAT THEM.
[Ankylosaurus roaring]
As Rock Girl, Ankylosaurus yelps, WHOA!
On its back, the Ankylosaurus jerks and swings its tail. As Rock Girl, Kayla jumps over it.
Dex says, DON'T FEEL BAD. CARNIVORES ARE TRYING TO SURVIVE, JUST LIKE HERBIVORES.
As Rock Girl, Kayla nods.
Dex adds, AND WITHOUT CARNIVORES, THERE'D BE SO MANY HERBIVORES THAT THEY'D EAT ALL THE PLANTS UNTIL THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT, AND THEN –
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, EVERYTHING WOULD GO EXTINCT?
Dex says, EXACTLY.
[Ankylosaurus grumbling]
The Ankylosaurus rolls onto its feet.
[Ankylosaurus bellowing]
The Ankylosaurus slams the club of its tail on the ground and walks away.
[Thudding]
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, SO, WHO'S UP NEXT? THAT ONE WAS WAY TOO EAS – AAH!
A Triceratops slams into Kayla, as Rock Girl, from behind with its snout.
[Kayla screaming]
The Triceratops stumbles back.
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla falls onto the grass beside the picnic table.
[Kayla groaning]
Dex cringes.
He says, TRICERATOPS, NAMED AFTER THEIR THREE HORNS, WHICH THEY USE TO –
As Rock Girl, Kayla stands.
In annoyance, she asks, SLAM INTO CARNIVORES?
Dex says, AND EACH OTHER. PALAEONTOLOGISTS THINKTHAT BOY TRICERATOPS
WOULD CHALLENGE OTHER BOYS TO SHOW WHO WAS THE STRONGEST.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LOOKS LIKE HE'S GOING UP AGAINST A GIRL TODAY!
She raises her arms and charges toward the Triceratops.
[Kayla yelling]
Dex shouts, WAIT!
As Rock Girl, Kayla stops and looks back at Dex.
Dex says, THINK IT THROUGH.
[Triceratops groaning]
As Rock Girl, Kayla looks at the Triceratops. The Triceratops stomps toward her.
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl Kayla says, THREE HORN'S BAD.
She slowly lowers her arms.
Dex says, YES, THEIR HORNS ARE THEIR MAIN DEFENCE. SO, CARNIVORES WOULD HAVE TO THINK OF A WAY TO GET AROUND THEM.
As Rock Girl, Kayla smiles.
She says, AROUND THEM, HUH?
She punches the palm of her hand and sparks fly.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL.
She raises her hands and charges toward the Triceratops.
[Kayla yelling fiercely]
Kayla spins toward the Triceratops.
[Kayla grunting]
The Triceratops dodges a kick.
[Triceratops snarling]
Dex draws Kayla, as Dino Girl, gripping the horn on the Triceratops’ snout.
He says, DINO EXPERIMENT 1017 CONTINUED. ATTEMPT NUMBER ONE: ROCK GIRL TRIES TO GET PAST THE TRICERATOPS' DEFENCES.
[Thudding]
Dex looks up from his drawing.
He asks, ANY LUCK?
[Triceratops snorting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla holds the Triceratops’ snout horn with her glowing hands.
She says, JUST. GIVE ME. A SECOND.
[Triceratops roaring]
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE ROCK GIRL HAS MET HER MATCH.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, NEVER!
[Triceratops grunting]
The Triceratops pushes against Kayla, as Rock Girl. Kayla slides backward across the grass.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, OKAY, MAYBE.
Dex says, LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE NOT FAST ENOUGH TO GET PAST THOSE THREE HORNS. PREPARING FOR ATTEMPT NUMBER TWO.
As Rock Girl, Kayla looks thoughtful.
She says, BECAUSE I'M TOO HEAVY.
She looks over at Dex.
She says, COLOUR ME LIGHT GREY!
Dex says, I DON'T THINK A DIFFERENT COLOUR WILL –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and says, JUST LIKE DINO BOY CAN TRANSFORM INTO DIFFERENT DINOSAURS, ROCK GIRL CAN CHANGE INTO DIFFERENT ROCKS. ROCKS LIKE PUMICE!
Dex says, AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT THAT IS?
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, YOU DON'T KNOW PUMICE?
Dex says, YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE "REX" IN "T-REX" MEANT "KING" UNTIL I TOLD YOU.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, NO, I KNEW. I JUST DIDN'T CARE.
She struggles against the Triceratops.
[Triceratops roaring]
Dex looks annoyed.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, PUMICE IS THE LIGHTEST ROCK IN THE WORLD. CHECK IN MY BAG.
[Triceratops braying]
Dex takes a rock out of Kayla’s dino backpack.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, SEE HOW LIGHT IT IS?
Dex says, IT IS LIGHT.
He tosses the rock in one hand.
Dex says, IF ROCK GIRL WAS LIGHTER, SHE'D BE –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and yells, FASTER!
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, AAAAH! HURRY!
Dex quickly puts the rock down and grabs a grey pencil crayon.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, FASTER, DEX!
Dex says, YOU CAN'T RUSH ART!
He starts colouring his drawing with the grey pencil crayon.
[Kayla grunting]
Dex finishes colouring the drawing.
He says, DONE!
[Triceratops growling]
Kayla, as Rock Girl, in a now grey costume, pushes the Triceratops back.
She says, HA!
The Triceratops charges toward Kayla, as Rock Girl.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yelps, WHOA!
She jumps away from the Triceratops.
She says, I'M TOO FAST FOR YOU!
The Triceratops charges again.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yelps, AAH!
She spins away.
She says, PHEW! HA!
As Rock Girl, Kayla dodges multiple attacks. The Triceratops slips and falls.
[Triceratops roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla grabs one of the Triceratops’ horns, and grey light shines from her gloves.
[Sparks zapping]
Dex watches in amazement.
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, DO YOU SURRENDER?
[Triceratops braying]
As Rock Girl, Kayla raises her hands and steps away from the Triceratops.
She cheers, WHOO-HOO!
As Rock Girl, Kayla lowers her arms and looks around.
She says, SUPER CHILL!
The Triceratops stands and leaves.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, DRAW ME LIKE THIS.
She poses with her hands on her hips.
Dex says, I THINK YOUR THEORY IS RIGHT, ROCK GIRL.
He walks over with the dino field guide.
He says, CARNIVORES WOULD HAVE TO BE QUICK TO GET PAST THE TRICERATOPS' HORNS.
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, WHICH WAS THE THIRD PLANT-EATER AGAIN?
THE DREAD –
[Roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla looks up.
[Kayla yelling]
As Rock Girl, Kayla blocks a Dreadnoughtus foot with her powers and drops to one knee.
[Kayla grunting]
Dex says, DREADNOUGHTUS.
The Dreadnoughtus curls its long tail toward Kayla, as Rock Girl, and Dex.
Dex says, ONE OF THE LARGEST DINOSAURS THAT EVER EXISTED.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, YES, I BELIEVE YOU!
[Kayla grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, BUT I CAN STILL WIN.
She shoves the Dreadnoughtus’ foot away.
[Kayla grunting]
[Loud thudding]
As Rock Girl, Kayla starts to say, LET'S –
Dex says, MAKE OBSERVATIONS, THEN COME UP WITH A THEORY WE CAN TEST.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, I ONLY NEED ONE TEST.
She waves Dex away. Dex backs up.
[Dreadnoughtus grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla punches her fist into her palm.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!
[Dreadnoughtus grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla charges toward the Dreadnoughtus. Dex watches with concern.
[Kayla yelling fiercely]
As Rock Girl, Kayla runs at the Dreadnoughtus from behind. The Dreadnoughtus swings its tail and knocks her aside.
[Kayla screaming]
Dex’s gaze moves across the park.
[Thudding]
Dex flinches.
He says, OOH.
He takes a seat on the grass and opens the dino field guide.
Dex says, DINO EXPERIMENT 1017 CONTINUED.
He draws a Dreadnoughtus.
Dex says, EVEN WITH HER SUPER-STRENGTH AND SUPER-SPEED, ROCK GIRL WAS NOT ABLE TO GET PAST THE DREADNOUGHTUS' DEFENCES.
He draws Kayla, as Rock Girl, soaring through the sir.
[Dreadnoughtus braying]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, FINE.
She walks over to Dex.
She says, MAKE SOME OBSERVATIONS.
Dex says, GREAT!
He closes the dino guide and stands.
Dex says, IT'S MY FAVOURITE PART. DREADNOUGHTUS' NAME MEANS "FEAR NOTHING," BECAUSE THEY WERE SO BIG THAT LITERALLY –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and asks, NOTHING COULD SCARE THEM?
Dex says, THEY WEIGHED AS MUCH AS FOUR T-REXES.
He and Kayla, as Rock Girl, look over at the Dreadnoughtus.
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
The Dreadnoughtus stomps toward the playground.
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED DREADNOUGHTUS REX, BECAUSE THEY'RE CLEARLY THE KING OF THE DINOSAURS.
Dex shrugs and says, WE'D HAVE TO CALL KENNETH LACOVARA, WHO DISCOVERED THE DREADNOUGHTUS, TO SEE IF HE'D –
As Rock Girl, Kayla interrupts and says, I WAS KIDDING. BUT I AM GOING TO NEED SOME HELP.
She puts her hands on her hips.
She says, DINO BOY, WOULD YOU HELP ME TEST MY THEORY THAT IT WOULD TAKE MORE THAN ONE CARNIVORE TO GET PAST THE DREADNOUGHTUS' SIZE DEFENCES?
Dex smiles and says, I'D BE HONOURED.
As Rock Girl, Kayla punches her fist into her palm.
[Zapping]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!
She charges toward the Dreadnoughtus with Dex.
[Dreadnoughtus braying]
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
[Intense music plays]
As Rock Girl, Kayla runs through the park with Dex, as Dino Boy. Dex wears Dino Boy’s costume, which includes a blue mask, gloves, boots and a copper-coloured cape over a dark rainbow-coloured suit.
As Dino Boy, Dex says, IT'S T-REX TIME!
He taps triangular dinosaur spikes on his glove and wraps his cape around himself. As Rock Girl, Kayla slows her pace and looks up.
[Thudding]
As Rock Girl, Kayla yelps, WHOA!
She ducks under the Dreadnoughtus’ tail.
[T-rex bellowing]
A T-rex catches the Dreadnoughtus’ tail in its mouth. The Dreadnoughtus pulls its tail free. As Rock Girl, Kayla looks up at the T-rex.
She says, WHOA! NICE WORK, DINO BOY.
Dex, as Dino Boy, is the T-Rex.
As Dino Boy in T-rex form, Dex says, THANKS! THAT MEANS A LOT COMING FROM –
The Dreadnoughtus hits Dex, as Dino Boy in T-rex form, with its tail.
As Dino Boy in T-rex form, Dex yells, AAH!
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, WHOA!
As Dino Boy in T-rex form, Dex hits the ground. He rolls across the ground and transforms back into a human.
[Dex grunting]
As Rock Girl, Kayla asks, YOU OKAY?
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
The Dreadnoughtus knocks Kayla, as Rock Girl, off her feet with its head.
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, WHOA!
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
As Rock Girl, Kayla yells, WHOA!
She lands on her stomach on the grass beside Dex, as Dino Boy.
[Kayla grunting]
[Dreadnoughtus bellowing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla rolls onto her back.
She says, THAT WAS FUN!
As Dino Boy, Dex says, IT WAS, WASN'T IT?
[Kayla sighing]
As Rock Girl, Kayla says, SO, THERE WERE SOME HERBIVORES WHOSE DEFENCES CARNIVORES COULDN'T GET PAST. WHEN THEY WERE FULLY GROWN?
As Dino Boy, Dex says, LOOKS LIKE IT. DINO EXPERIMENT 1017…
He raises his hand with his fingers curled like claws.
He says, COMPLETE.
As Rock Girl, Kayla high-fives Dex, as Dino Boy, with her fingers curled like claws. They both raise their fists. They let their arms fall to the ground.
[Dex sighing tiredly]
A drawing in the dino field guide shows Kayla and Dex, as Rock Girl and Dino Boy lying on the grass.
[Dreadnoughtus roaring]
