A child says, WHEE!

T.V.O. Kids and Sinking Ship Entertainment, Original.

[Child giggles, upbeat music plays, pop]

Crystals reflect dinosaurs and children. In the reflections, children run across a field, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex jumps into a swimming pool.

[Energetic theme music plays, dinosaurs snarling, children shouting, dinosaur snorting water splashing]

Title: Dino Dex.
Title: Are You Afraid of the Dinos?

Dex shouts, DINO DEX! ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DINOS?

Text reads, “Created by J.J. Johnson.” “Written by Joan Digba. Directed by Allana Harkin.”

[Suspenseful music plays]

Dex shines his flashlight on a small bookcase in a dark living room.

Dex says, WHERE ARE THEY HIDING?

[Footsteps shuffling]

Dex shines his flashlight on a green Tyrannosaurus stuffy and then a toy stegosaurus.

Dex says, NOPE, THAT'S A T-REX. STEGOSAURUS... HAH! AUGH!

Dex shines his flashlight on Kayla, hiding beside the couch.

Dex says, FOUND YOU, KAYLA. NOW HELP ME SEEK.

Kayla turns on her flashlight. She and Dex look around the dark living room.

[Clicking, giggling, Dex gasping]

A foot wearing a slipper pokes out beneath a blanket on the floor. Kayla tickles the person’s ankle.

[Giggling]

Dex says, FOUND YOU, CASEY!

[Giggling]

Casey says, YEAH, BUT I WAS WAY HARDER TO FIND THAN KAYLA. I'M THE BEST AT FLASHLIGHT HIDE AND SEEK.

Casey turns on her flashlight.

[Clicking]

Kayla says, YOU GOT LUCKY. LET'S PLAY AGAIN, AND WE'LL SEE WHO'S REALLY THE BEST.

Dex’s dad stands up behind a breakfast bar. He holds his flashlight under his chin.

Dex’s dad says, IT'S ME!

[Dramatic music plays, Children shrieking, music stops]

Dex’s dad says, UNLESS... WAIT, DID YOU STOP LOOKING FOR ME?

The children look at each other.

They say, UM...

Dex says, WE WERE STILL SEEKING.

Casey says, LET'S PLAY AGAIN. YOU'RE IT, DEX'S DAD!

[Phone chiming]

Dex’s dad looks at his smartphone.

Dex’s dad says, OH, NOT SO FAST. BEDTIME FOR CASEY. KAYLA AND DEX, YOU HAVE ANOTHER HOUR.

[Happy music plays]

Kayla says, YES!

Dex says, JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR A DINO EXPERIMENT.

Casey says, NO FAIR! WHY CAN'T I STAY UP AND DO THE DINO EXPERIMENT?

Dex’s dad says, I DON'T MAKE THE SLEEPOVER RULES. YOUR PARENTS DO.

[Phone chiming repeatedly]

Dex’s dad says, THEY KEEP TEXTING ME FROM THEIR DATE NIGHT. BED TIMES, FOOD DO'S AND DON'TS. APPROVED STORY LISTS.

Kayla says, THEY HAVEN'T BEEN OUT IN A WHILE.

Dex’s dad nods.

Casey asks, CAN I STAY UP, PLEASE, DEX'S DAD?

Kayla says, MOM AND DAD SAY IT'S BEDTIME, CASEY.

Dex says, LET'S GO, BUD. YOU'LL LOVE MY ROOM.

The shadow of a small dinosaur passes over a vent.

[Footsteps padding, gentle music plays, skittering, squawking]

Casey looks around Dex’s bedroom. She points at a toy dinosaur on a nightstand.

Casey asks, WHAT IS THIS DINOSAUR CALLED?

Dex says, THERIZINOSAURUS, THE LONGEST CLAWS OF ANY DINO.

Casey asks, WHAT ABOUT THAT ONE?

Kayla says, STOP STALLING, CASEY.

Casey says, JUST TELL ME WHAT ITS NAME IS AND THEN I'LL GO TO BED. I PROMISE.

Dex says, THIS...

Dex holds up a wooden model of a skeleton.

Dex continues, IS THE SHUVUUIA.

Casey says, SHA-VOY-YA. LOOK AT ITS POINTY THUMBS. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE WHEN IT'S NOT JUST BONES?

Kayla says, CASEY, GET INTO BED, THEN DEX WILL ANSWER.

Casey lies down on a bed.

Dex says, I’M NOT SURE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE BECAUSE I'VE NEVER SEEN A SHUVUUIA.

Casey says, BUT—

Kayla says, AND THAT'S IT. NO MORE QUESTIONS. JUST SLEEPING.

She carries the skeleton back to the nightstand.

Kayla says, NIGHT-NIGHT, CASEY.

Dex says, GOOD NIGHT, CASEY.

Casey says, NIGHT.

Kayla turns off the bedroom light.

[Clicking, scratching]

Casey says, WAIT! I HEARD A SCRATCHING NOISE.

Dex turns the light on.

[Clicking, gentle music plays]

Dex says, MAYBE IT WAS A SHUVUUIA USING ITS POINTY THUMB CLAW TO SCRATCH!

Casey says, YOU'RE NOT HELPING. AND I'M SURE THE SHUVUUIA WOULD BE GOING TO SLEEP RIGHT ABOUT NOW.

Dex says, NOT NECESSARILY. SOME PALEONTOLOGISTS THINK THE SHUVUUIA WAS NOCTURNAL. NOCTURNAL MEANS AWAKE AT NIGHT AND ASLEEP IN THE DAY.

Casey looks around uneasily.

Casey says, SO IT WOULD BE AROUND RIGHT NOW?

Dex says, MAYBE, BUT WE'D HAVE TO PROVE IT. WHICH WOULD ALSO GIVE US A CHANCE TO SOLVE DINO EXPERIMENT 10-04. WHAT DOES THE SHUVUUIA REALLY LOOK LIKE?

Casey asks, CAN I HELP? I CAN'T SLEEP IF THERE'S A CREEPY DINO AROUND.

[Upbeat music plays]
Dex says, HE'S NOT CREEPY. HE'S JUST A PREHISTORIC CREATURE THAT'S CHICKEN-SIZED, WITH TWO SMALL ARMS, BIG EYES AND EARS, AND MASSIVE CLAWS ON HIS THUMBS. OKAY, MAYBE A LITTLE CREEPY.

Kayla says, OKAY, CASEY. YOU CAN HELP. FROM BED, BY TRYING TO SLEEP.

Casey says, IF THE SHUVUUIA HAVE BIG EARS, MAYBE IT COULD HEAR EVERYTHING. WE BETTER BE QUIET.

Dex says, INTERESTING THEORY AND SUGGESTION. YOU'RE GOOD AT THIS.

Kayla puts her hand on Dex’s shoulder.

[Thumping]

Kayla says, OKAY, NIGHT-NIGHT.

Dex says, HOLD ON. SHE JUST GAVE ME A GREAT IDEA. THANKS, CASEY.

Dex and Kayla leave a room with folded towels tied to their stomachs.

[Chittering, door creaking]

Kayla asks, YOUR IDEA WAS TO TURN US INTO MARSHMALLOW PEOPLE?

Dex says, SO WE CAN MOVE QUIETLY.

Kayla asks, HEY, ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE THIS HARD?

Dex turns off a lamp.

[Clicking]

Dex says, WE NEED IT TO BE DARK IF WE'RE GOING TO FIND A NOCTURNAL DINO. PLUS, IT'S MORE FUN THIS WAY.

[Thudding]

Dex shushes, SHH.

Dex opens a door.

[Creaking]

Dex says, HAH! GOT YOU!

The Shuvuuia runs down the stairs to the main floor of the house.

[Scuffling, thudding, chittering, gentle music plays]

Dex says, OH NO! THE SCARED THE DINO AND ITS TAIL FEATHERS AWAY!

Kayla says, WE CAN CATCH IT. COME ON!

[Grunting, upbeat music plays]

Dex says, IT'S NOT EASY IN THIS.

[Shouting, clattering]

Kayla and Dex run around a corner and startle Dex’s dad. His dad drops a sandwich on the floor.

Dex’s dad says, IT'S STILL GOOD. IT'S STILL GOOD.

He picks up the pieces of the sandwich.

Dex’s dad says, AH. NOPE.

Upstairs, Casey shouts, DID SOMETHING HAPPEN? I HEARD NOISES!

Kayla shouts, THAT WAS US!

Dex says, AND SORRY, DAD.

Dex’s dad says, WHAT ARE YOU TWO? PILLOW DINOS?

Dex says, WE'RE TRYING TO BE QUIET, BUT WE FORGOT NOCTURNAL DINOS CAN SEE AND HEAR WELL.

Kayla says, THERE IS ONE IN THE HOUSE, AND--

Dex says, WE THINK IT'S THE SHUVUUIA.

Dex’s dad says, WHAT? SHI-BOO-- BOO-YOU?

Dex says, SHU-VU-EE-AH.

Dex’s dad says, SHI-- SURE. WHATEVER YOU SAID. BUT INSTEAD OF RUNNING AROUND THE HOUSE WHILE CASEY IS TRYING TO SLEEP, WHY DON'T YOU GET THAT UNNECESSARILY HARD-NAMED DINO TO COME TO YOU? QUIETLY.

Casey walks partway down the stairs and sits down.

Casey asks, DID YOU SEE THE DINO?

Kayla says, NOT SURE, BUT I DO SEE A LITTLE SISTER WHO IS NOT IN BED!

Dex and Kayla follow Casey back upstairs. Casey crawls beneath the covers on the bed.

[Footsteps thumping, chittering]

Kayla says, OUR DEAL WAS YOU STAY IN BED.

Casey says, I HEARD NOISES. I THOUGHT SOMETHING HAPPENED. DID YOU SEE THE DINO?

Dex unties his pillow, and it falls to the floor.

[Thumping]

Dex says, WE SAW A DINOSAUR'S TAIL. YEAH, IT'S SPREAD LIKE A PEACOCK'S.

Dex opens a book and shows Casey an illustration of a peacock.

[Pages rustling]

Casey says, AH. LIKE THAT ONE?

Dex says, EXACTLY. CAN YOU CUT IT OUT AND PASTE IT IN THE DINO FIELD GUIDE, CASEY?

Kayla asks, ARE WE CRAFTING NOW?

[Pages rustling]

Dex says, NO, WE'RE BUILDING AN IDEA OF WHAT THE SHUVUUIA MIGHT LOOK LIKE. SO FAR, WE KNOW IT HAS A TAIL LIKE A PEACOCK. TO FIGURE OUT MORE, WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO BRING THE DINO TO US.

Casey says, JUST DON'T BRING IT TO ME. I DON'T WANT TO BE DINO CHOW.

[Kayla and Dex gasping]

They both say, THAT'S IT!

Later, Dex and Kayla hide behind the couch in the shadowy living room and peer over the top.

Kayla whispers, DINO CHOW IN PLACE.

They look at a sandwich on a table and sit on the floor behind the couch.

[Gentle music plays]

Dex whispers, THE SHUVUUIA IS A CARNIVORE, SO IF WE CAN GET THIS DINO TO COME INTO THE LIGHT FOR THE SANDWICH BAIT, WE COULD SEE HIM ONCE AND FOR ALL, AND--

Kayla eats a carrot stick.

[Crunching]

Dex whispers, REMEMBER, IF THIS DINO IS THE SHUVUUIA, IT CAN SEE AND HEAR WELL IN THE DARK, SO, SHH.

Kayla says, RIGHT. SORRY.

She puts the carrot stick in her pocket.

[Chittering, footsteps skittering]

Dex says, I HEAR SOMETHING.

The Shuvuuia nibbles the sandwich.

[Trilling, squawking]

Dex says, FASCINATING!

Kayla says, OH! WHY DID YOU SAY ABOUT HIS HEARING?

Dex says, SORRY, THE SCIENCE GOT TOO EXCITING.

Upstairs, Casey shouts, WHAT HAPPENED?!

Dex and Kayla return to Dex's room.

Casey says, I KNOW THE DRILL, I JUST REALLY WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

Dex says, WE SAW A CHICKEN-SIZED DINOSAUR'S SHADOW, WITH TAIL FEATHERS.

Dex picks up books.

[Rustling]

Dex says, SO, KNOW WE KNOW HE HAS A FEATHERED TAIL AND A SKINNY LITTLE BODY, LIKE THIS.

Dex holds up a drawing of the body with colourful tail feathers.

Casey says, BUT YOU STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT COLOUR HE IS, OR WHAT HIS FACE LOOKS LIKE.

Kayla says, TRUE. OKAY, WE KNOW HE WILL COME OUT OF HIDING FOR THE BAIT, BUT HOW CAN WE BE SURE HE WON'T SEE OR HEAR US?

Casey says, YOU KNOW HOW I'M THE BEST AT FLASHLIGHT HIDE AND SEEK?

[Playful musical notes play]

Kayla says, YOU WON ONCE, BUT GO ON.

Casey says, I WAS REALLY QUIET HIDING UNDER A BLANKET, UNDER A TABLE, THAT MADE ME EXTRA HARD TO FIND IN THE DARK.

Dex says, SO, YOUR THEORY IS WE SHOULD COME UP WITH AN EVEN BETTER HIDING SPOT TO SEE THE SHUVUUIA FROM, WITHOUT HIM SEEING US!

Kayla says, I KNOW JUST WHERE TO DO IT.

Kayla and Dex hide beneath the dining room table with a crochet blanket between them and the sandwich.

[Skittering]

Kayla says, DID YOU HEAR THAT?

Dex says, YEAH! SOUNDS LIKE...

Both whisper, THUMB CLAWS!

Kayla says, WAIT, ARE YOU SURE THIS IS THE SHUVUUIA , NOT SOME BIGGER, CREEPIER, HUNGRIER DINO?

[Floorboards creaking, footsteps thumping]

Dex says, I'M ASSUMING IT'S THE SHUVUUIA.

Dex’s dad lifts the blanket.

[Dex’s dad shouting, Dex and Kayla screaming]

Dex’s dad says, HAH! GOT YOU. I'M ASSUMING YOU WANT MY SANDWICH ON THE FLOOR?

Dex says, WE'RE USING IT TO LURE IN A SHUVUUIA TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.

Kayla says, SO FAR, WE KNOW IT HAS A FEATHERED TAIL.

[Gentle music plays]

Upstairs, Casey shouts, AND A THIN BODY!

Dex’s dad says, THIS BABYSITTING IS GOING GREAT. ALL RIGHT, WELL, YOUR HOUR IS ALMOST UP, SO, HURRY UP AND SOLVE
YOUR EXPERIMENT.

Dex’s dad drops the blanket and walks away.

[Dex and Kayla groaning, blanket rustling]

[Floorboards creaking, skittering]

Dex says, DAD!

Dex and Kayla lift the blanket and find the Shuvuuia eating the sandwich.

[Chittering]

Kayla says, HE'S BEAUTIFUL!

[Trilling, sniffing]

Kayla asks, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Dex says, TRYING TO REMEMBER EVERY DETAIL.

Upstairs, Casey shouts, WHAT'S HAPPENING?!

[Hissing, skittering]

The Shuvuuia flees.

Kayla says, HOLD ON, WE'RE COMING!

Dex and Kayla go upstairs.

[Footsteps running]

Kayla says, CASEY, YOUR PLAN WORKED! THE SHUVUUIA DIDN'T SEE OR HEAR US.

[Gentle music plays]

Dex says, BUT WE DID SEE THE SHUVUUIA!

Dex shows Casey his drawing of the Shuvuuia.

Kayla says, AND NOW WE KNOW THE SHUVUUIA HAS LOTS OF TAIL FEATHERS, A SMALL SKINNY BODY, WITH LIGHT FEATHERS, A SHARP BEAK, AND TWO POINTY THUMB CLAWS.

Dex says, AND SINCE HE WAS AWAKE AT NIGHT, THE SHUVUUIA IS DEFINITELY NOCTURNAL.

Dex says, CASEY, DO YOU WANT TO SAY IT?

Casey asks, SAY WHAT?

Kayla whispers, DINO EXPERIMENT 10-04 COMPLETE!

Casey says, DINO EXPERIMENT 10-04 COMPLETE!

Dex says, NOW WE DO THIS.

Everyone curls their fingers and bumps their hands together.

Everyone says, RARR!

[Giggling]

Casey says, COOL. BUT WHAT ARE THE SHUVUUIA CLAWS FOR?

Dex says, ANOTHER GREAT DINO EXPERIMENT!

[Gentle music plays]

Kayla says, FOR TOMORROW. SLEEP TIGHT.

Casey says, I JUST WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN THE SHUVUUIA LIKE YOU DID.

[Kayla gasping]

Kayla says, WHY DON'T WE ALL HIDE IN HERE? MAYBE IT WILL COME LOOKING FOR FOOD.

Casey says, LET'S GET HIDING!

Dex turns off the light.

[Clicking]

In the living room, Dex’s dad sits on the couch, watching television and eating his sandwich. He holds his smartphone up to his ear.

Dex’s dad says, HEY, COLLEEN.

[Background chattering on television]

Dex’s dad says, YEAH, CASEY AND KAYLA HAVE BEEN GREAT. WHAT ARE THEY DOING RIGHT NOW? THEY SHOULD BE SLEEPING.

Dex’s dad puts his sandwich on the couch and quietly runs up the stairs. He looks into Dex’s bedroom, where the children are sleeping.

[Footsteps quietly thumping]

Dex’s dad says, THEY'RE ASLEEP, JUST LIKE I THOUGHT. STOP WORRYING, HAVE FUN ON YOUR DATE, AND I'LL SEE YOU IN THE MORNING. OKAY, BYE.

Dex’s dad ends the call and turns off a lamp.

[Beeping, clicking]

Outside, the Shuvuuia runs down a porch railing.

[Squawking, skittering]

[Upbeat theme music plays]
