Itafari waves his dark brown hair. He plays an acoustic guitar.

The narrator says, HE'S A DOWN TO EARTH MUSICAL ARTIST WHO ISN'T AFRAID OF CONQUERING NEW HEIGHTS. HE HAS A LOVE OF VEGAN TREATS THAT CELEBRATE THE RASTAFARIAN LIFE.

Itafari stirs food in a pot on a stove. An adult supervises close behind him.

The narrator says, AND HE TACKLES LIFE HEAD ON.

Itafari wears a fencing mask and gear. He taps his foil against an instructor’s foil.

Itafari says, EN GARDE.

[Tap]

The narrator says, JUST WAIT UNTIL HE SEES HIS SPECIAL SURPRISE.

A woman with black hair gives Itafari a tablet.

The instructor asks, ARE YOU READY? LET'S GO!

[Upbeat theme song plays, slide whistle, needle scratching on record]

Itafari’s family sits on a couch.

Everyone says, HI!

Itafari says, I'M ITAFARI, I'M EIGHT YEARS OLD. MEET MY MOM,SISTER ANAYA,MY BROTHER ZACK, MY LITTLE BROTHER AYAMAN, MY DAD IS ALSO JOINING US.

The black-haired woman, Itafari’s mom, smiles. Anaya waves. She wears a leopard-print headband over her black hair. Zack waves; he has black shoulder-length hair. Ayaman puts on sunglasses. His hair brushes his shoulders. Ayaman sits on his dad’s lap. His dad has a long braided beard and wears a black, yellow, green and red Rastafari tam.

Itafari says, I LIVE IN LAVAL, QUEBEC.

Colourful umbrellas hang under the skylight in the C.F. Carrefour Laval Mall.

Itafari says, MY MOM IS BORN IN CANADA. HER PARENTS ARE FROM HAITI.

Graphics show the shape of the countries Canada, Haiti, and Jamaica.

[Whooshing]

Itafari says, AND MY DAD IS FROM JAMAICA.

A map shows the locations of Haiti and Jamaica.

[Chiming]

Itafari says, HERE IS HAITI. HERE IS JAMAICA. HAITI IS THE ISLAND WITH THE MOST MOUNTAINS IN THE SEA.
NOT TOO FAR, YOU COULD SEE JAMAICA. IT'S HOME TO RASTAFARIANISM. THIS IS MY HAITIAN FLAG.

The flag of Haiti is split horizontally into two colours: dark blue on the top and red on the bottom. The coat of arms of Haiti is in the centre. It shows a palm tree on top of a green hill and six flags and weapons under the tree. The palm tree is topped with the Cap of Liberty.

Itafari says, IT'S ONE OF THE OLDEST FLAGS IN THE WORLD. IT'S BLUE, RED, AND YOU HAVE MANY SYMBOLS IN THE CENTRE. YOU CAN SEE A PALM TREE, A LIBERTY CAP, FLAG AND ANCHOR. THEY SHOW INDEPENDENCE AND UNITY AND THIS IS MY JAMAICAN FLAG.

[Popping]

The Jamaican flag flutters. It features a gold ‘X,’ dividing it into four triangles. The top and bottom triangles are green, and the two side triangles are black.

Itafari explains THE COLOUR GREEN IS FOR THE FARMLANDS, GOLD IS FOR THE BEAUTY OF JAMAICA, BLACK IS FOR THE CREATIVITY OF THE PEOPLE. LET ME SHOW YOU MORE OF MY CANADIAN, HAITIAN, AND JAMAICAN LIFE.

Itafari wears his fencing gear and waves his foil. The animated flags of Canada, Haiti and Jamaica flutter beneath him.

[Slide whistles, slicing]

A bedroom has a bunk bed beside a raised bed with a play area beneath it. Shoe racks line one wall. Itafari jumps up.

[Slide whistle]

Itafari says, MY ROOM IS A GREAT PLACE TO START! AS YOU COULD SEE, I SHARE THE ROOM WITH MY BROTHERS.

Itafari climbs up a ladder to the raised bed.

He says THIS IS MY BED! I LIKE TO PLAY WITH BLOCKS. AND LOOK AT MY SUPER BOAT.

Sunny gives a thumbs up.

[Chiming, slide whistle]

Itafari kneels by a bookcase.

Itafari says, HERE ARE MY GRAPHIC NOVELS.

He flips through a graphic novel.

Itafari says THE END.

Itafari stands in front of a large poster of Bob Marley.

Itafari says, HERE'S ONE OF OUR REAL LIFE HEROES. BOB MARLEY.

Sunny pumps their fist in the air.

[Slide whistles, chiming]

Itafari says HE WAS A GREAT REGGAE ARTIST. AND A RASTAFARIAN JUST LIKE MY DAD.

Sunny gives a peace sign.

[Slide whistles, chiming]

Itafari sits in a barber chair in a hair salon.

Itafari says, WELCOME TO ARTIZANS 4/22. THIS IS WHERE I GO TO GET MY LOCS DONE. THIS IS LOVELY.

Lovely, a loctician, smiles and waves. She wears a yellow T-shirt.

Itafari says, WE ARE GOING TO WASH AND DEEP CLEAN MY LOCS. SHE USES APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND NATURAL BAKING POWDER.

In an animation, a bottle and box appear.

Itafari narrates, THEN WE WASH WITH SHAMPOO AND RINSE IT ALL OUT.

Lovely sprays Itafari’s hair with steam.

[Hissing]

Itafari says IT FEELS LIKE A--

Itafari narrates, SHE ALSO USES A STEAMER. THEN SHE HYDRATES MY HAIR WITH OIL. MY HAIR IS REALLY HYDRATED NOW. TO DO LOCS WE GATHER OUR HAIR IN STRANDS AS THEY GROW. MINE ARE FREEFORM LOCS. IT'S PART OF AFRICAN AND INDIGENOUS AND SOUTH ASIAN CULTURES. THERE ARE FIVE DIFFERENT STAGES OF GROWING LOCS.

Itafari says, THERE ARE STARTER LOCS, BUDDING LOCS, TEEN LOCS, MATURE LOCS, AND ROOTED.

Itafari says, WOW, THANK YOU, LOVELY. I FEEL SO FLY I CAN TAKE ON AN ARMY.

Sunny pats one of their sunbeams.

Itafari wears his white fencing gear and holds his mask under his arm. His instructor, who has a shaved head, stands beside him in black gear.

[Upbeat music continues]

Itafari says, YEP, I WASN'T JOKING. TODAY I'M TRYING SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT NEW. DAVE IS GOING TO
TEACH ME FENCING.

The man with the shaved head, Dave, waves.

Dave instructs Itafari on his stance.

[Background chatter, fois scrape]

Itafari narrates, ALWAYS, ALWAYS HAVE AN ADULT WITH YOU. CHECK ME OUT. THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF SWORDS. THE FOIL, EPEE, AND SABRE.

[Tapping]

Itafari narrates, THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES, COMPOSITIONS, AND SCORING TARGET AREAS.

Sunny pumps their fist.

[Chiming]

Itafari says, EN GARDE.

[Upbeat music continues]

Itafari says, MY DAD AND I, WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SOME ITAL SOUP. HERE ARE THE INGREDIENTS.

The ingredients are spread on a counter.

Itafari says, BROCCOLI, CABBAGE, CAULIFLOWER, GINGER, SWEET PEPPER, CARROT, ONION, TOMATO, GARLIC, LEEK, CASSAVA, PLANTAIN, COCONUT, YELLOW YAM, PUMPKIN. AND SO MANY OTHER FLAVOURS. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THERE'S AN ADULT WITH YOU WHEN YOU COOK.

Itafari chops a carrot.

[Banging]

Itafari says, GOTTA CHOP EVERYTHING UP. AND WHEN YOU COOK IT JUST ADD THE VEGETABLES LAST. ITAL SOUP IS A TASTY, FLAVOUR-PACKED VEGAN DISH.

Sunny rubs their stomach.

[Slide whistles]

Itafari says, ITAL FOOD KEEP ME HEALTHY, AND STRONG, AND FIT.

Itafari eats soup.

Itafari gives a thumbs-up and says, MMM.

Itafari stands in a store.

Itafari says, WELCOME TO THE ESPACE URBAIN FASHION SHOW. ME AND MY FRIEND IS GOING TO SHOW YOU SOME BEAUTIFUL CLOTHES. I LOVE TO ROCK AMAZING CLOTHES INSPIRED BY BLACK HERITAGE AND FASHION. THAT WAY I SHOW THE BEAUTY OF BLACK HERITAGE.

Photographs show Itafari, his brothers and his sister walking on a red carpet. They wear colourful, patterned clothes. Sunny appears and gets stars in their eyes.

[Slide whistles]

In an animation, a blue gift box wiggles. The gift opens, and Sunny rises and blows into a party horn. Text reads, “Sunny’s Surprise!”

[Upbeat music plays, party horn toots]

Itafari’s mom says, AH SO, ITAFARI, I'M SO PROUD OF YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE SO FAR. AND I HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR YOU. HERE.

She gives a tablet to Itafari.

On the tablet screen, Exco Levi, a reggae singer, stands in a kitchen. He wears a grey ball cap and grey jacket.

Exco says, HEY, GREETINGS, ITAFARI. MY NAME IS EXCO LEVI, I WAS BORN IN JAMAICA, NOW LIVING IN CANADA. I'M A FIVE-TIME JUNO AWARD WINNER FOR REGGAE MUSIC.

A photograph shows Exco performing on stage. Itafari’s mouth falls open, and he looks at his mom.

On the tablet, Exco says, WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE A MUSICIAN? YOU KNOW, IT'S FUN AT TIMES. BUT IT'S ALSO REQUIRED HARD WORK AND DEDICATION. VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO STAY HUMBLE. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? AND DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT MEDIA CRITIC AND WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT YOU, YOU KNOW, WHAT YOU ARE DOING. WORK HARD, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? GO TO THE STUDIO, PRACTICE PLAYING INSTRUMENTS. RESPECT YOURSELF, EXCO LEVI, SEEING, BLESSING, LOVE.

Itafari says, THANK YOU, EXCO LEVI.

Itafari sits on the couch with his family.

Itafari says, WOW. WHAT A DAY THAT WAS. WE DID SO MANY FUN THINGS.

A flashback shows Lovely steaming Itafari’s hair, Itafari fencing with Dave, and Itafari tasting the soup as his dad stirs it.

Itafari says, WE GOT PAMPERED, WE FENCED, AND WE ATE GOOD FOOD.

Itafari and his family say, BYE.

Sunny waves.
