On an indoor soccer field, Harris stands with his arms crossed in front of goalposts. His short black hair is curly. He wears a white jersey with a black star on the chest and red, yellow, and green striped trim on the sleeves. In a kitchen, Harris wears a red apron. His mom stands beside him and stirs frothy white liquid in a pot. She wears a peach headscarf, eyeglasses, a green and cream striped shirt, and a pale grey turtleneck.

A narrator says, MEET HARRIS. HE LOVES COOKING HIS FAVORITE MEAL WITH HIS MOM. HE'S ALSO A PRETTY GOOD SOCCER PLAYER.

Harris kicks a soccer ball into the net.

[Thumping]

In the kitchen, Harris dances beside the counter.

The narrator says, CHECK OUT HIS DANCE MOVES. HARRIS IS GOING TO JUMP FOR JOY WHEN HE SEES HIS SPECIAL SURPRISE.

Harris says, WOW! THAT WAS SO AMAZING!

By a house, Harris, his mom, and a younger boy jump and clap.

The narrator asks, ARE YOU READY? LET'S GO!

Sunny, an animated sun, waves. Photographs of children appear on a colourful brick wall. Text above Sunny reads, “T.V.O. Kids presents.”

Harris stands on his front porch with his family.

Harris says, HI! MY NAME IS HARRIS. I'M 12 YEARS OLD. I LIVE IN CLARENCE, ROCKLAND.

A sign reads, “Bienvenue/Welcome Cité de/city of Clarence-Rockland. www.Clarence-Rockland.com.” Aerial footage shows Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario.

Harris says, CLARENCE, ROCKLAND IS A BILINGUAL CITY WHICH IS CLOSE TO OTTAWA, THE CAPITAL OF CANADA. THIS IS MY MOM, MY DAD, AND MY BROTHER, JAMIL.

Harris’ mom, dad, and brother wave. His father has short black hair and wears a blue shirt with black, white, and blue vertical stripes on the side. Jamil wears a brown shirt with vertical white, brown, and black stripes on the chest.

[Upbeat music continues]

Harris says, MY MOM AND DAD WERE BORN IN GHANA. THAT MAKES ME A PROUD CANADIAN-GHANAIAN.

The flags of Canada and Ghana appear.

[Slide whistles]

Harris bounces a globe beach ball from foot to foot and then catches it.

[Boinging, thumping]

Harris says, LET ME SHOW YOU WHERE I’M FROM.

Harris says, WE'RE HERE IN CLARENCE, ROCKLAND, AND THIS IS WHERE MY PARENTS ARE FROM.

On an animated map, a dotted line leads from Clarence-Rockland, Ontario, Canada, to Ghana, West Africa.

Harris says, GHANA. GHANA IS A COUNTRY IN WEST AFRICA.

[Chiming]

The flag of Ghana appears beside Harris. It has red, yellow, and green horizontal stripes, and a black star in the middle.

Harris says, THIS IS THE GHANAIAN FLAG. THE RED STRIPE, IS A SYMBOL OF THE SACRIFICES MADE IN THE PURSUIT OF FREEDOM AND JUSTICE. THE YELLOW SYMBOLIZES THE COUNTRY'S RICH MINERAL WEALTH LIKE GOLD. THE GREEN STRIPE REPRESENTS THE COUNTRY'S LUSH VEGETATION. THE BLACK STAR IS AN IMPORTANT SYMBOL OF FREEDOM IN AFRICA.

[Popping, upbeat music plays]

Harris says, IN 1957, GHANA BECAME THE FIRST COUNTRY TO ACHIEVE INDEPENDENCE AS IT WAS PREVIOUSLY UNDER BRITISH CONTROL.

Animated silhouettes of people run in past a large fenced lot.

[Chattering]

In front of his house, Harris and his family jump and clap.

[Clapping, upbeat music plays]

Harris says, MY FAMILY AND I ARE HAVING A BLAST PLAYING AMPE.

Harris narrates, AMPE IS A SUPER COOL GAME FOR KIDS IN AFRICA. YOU CAN PLAY IT WITH LOTS OF FRIENDS AND YOU DON'T NEED ANY SPECIAL STUFF. YOU CAN JUST START PLAYING WHEREVER YOU WANT. YOU JUST JUMP, CLAP, AND KICK ONE FOOT. KICK THE SAME FOOT AS YOUR OPPONENT, YOU SCORE A POINT. KICK THE OPPOSING FOOT THEN THE OPPONENT BECOMES THE NEXT CHAMPION. YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS CAN KEEP SCORING WHILST PLAYING. IT'S REALLY FUN, SUPER FAST AND EXCITING!

In Harris’s bedroom, ribbons and medals hang on the wall. Harris drops down on his back on his bed.

[Slide whistles, boinging]

Harris says, I LOVE HANGING OUT IN MY ROOM. I KEEP IT NEAT. IF I SEE A MESS EVEN NEAR MY ROOM…

A crumpled piece of paper falls on the floor in the hallway leading to Harris’s bedroom.

[Slide whistle, Harris gasping]

Harris picks up the paper, and his father gives him a thumbs-up. Arrows point to medals as Harris lists them.

Harris says, I CLEAN IT UP RIGHT AWAY. AND NOW CHECK OUT MY MEDALS. I WON MEDALS FOR SOCCER, TRACK AND FIELD AND BASKETBALL.

[Squeaking]

[Whooshing]

Harris narrates, I REALLY ENJOY PLAYING SPORTS, ESPECIALLY SOCCER. I'VE BEEN PLAYING SINCE I WAS FOUR YEARS OLD.

Harris points to a blue and white vertically striped shirt.

Harris says, I'VE GOT SHOW YOU CLOTHES FROM GHANA. THIS IS CALLED FUGU. IT'S A BEAUTIFUL HAND-WOVEN FABRIC. LOOK AT THE COOL DESIGN PATTERN. WEARING FUGU IS VERY FASHIONABLE. FUGU IS A SOURCE OF PRIDE FOR THE PEOPLE OF NORTHERN GHANA.

Harris says, MY AUNT DESIGNED THIS TYPE OF FUGU JUST FOR ME. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE A CHAMPION WHEN I WEAR IT. COURAGEOUS AND READY FOR ANYTHING.

Sunny appears and pats their sunbeams.

[Slide whistle, appreciative muttering]

In the kitchen, Harris wears his apron.

[Chiming, upbeat music plays]

Harris says, TIME TO FUEL UP ON SOME GREAT GHANAIAN FOOD. TUO ZAAFI AND AYOYO.

Video footage shows the white, frothy liquid in the pot and a bowl filled with thick, green soup.

Harris says, IT'S A POPULAR DISH FROM NORTHERN GHANA, WHERE MY MOM IS FROM.

Harris’s mom appears in a bubble and waves. The bubble disappears.

[Popping]

Harris stands behind the kitchen island with the ingredients spread out in bowls before him.

[Chiming]

Harris says, TO MAKE TUO ZAAFI, YOU NEED TWO KINDS OF FLOURS, CORNFLOUR AND CASSAVA.

TO MAKE STEW, YOU NEED SPICES, BEEF, ONION AND GARLIC, AND DAWA DAWA. DAWA DAWA IS ALSO KNOWN AS LOCUST BEANS. THIS IS SMOKED CATFISH, WHICH COMES FROM GHANA. WE USE IT TO ENHANCE THE FLAVOR OF THE STEW.

THIS IS KNOW AYOYO, A TYPE OF SOUP. AYOUO IS MADE FROM THE JUTE PLANT. MY MOM PUTS OKRA INSIDE OUR AYOYO SOUP.

At the stovetop, Harris’s mom stirs the Tuo Zaffi.

Harris says, MOM TAKES CHARGE OF THE HOT STOVE. BOIL THE MALS AND KEEP STIRRING UNTIL IT'S NICE AND THICK.

I HELP STIR THE AYOYO. MY MOM COOKS A BEEF STEW WITH LOTS OF SPICES.

Sunny appears and sniffs.

[Slide whistle, sniffing, mmmm]

Harris narrates, ALMOST READY. IT SMELLS SO GOOD. MY MOM IS PLATING TUO ZAAFI AND AYOYO. IT'S ALMOST TIME TO DIG IN. I'M SO HUNGRY.

VOILÁ! IT'S TRADITIONAL TO EAT TUO ZAAFI AND AYOYO WITH OUR HANDS. JUST DIP, SCOOP AND ENJOY!

Harris dips a hunk of the Tuo Zaffi into the stew.

Harris narrates, MMM! DELICIOUS!

Harris gives a thumbs-up.

Later, Harris and Jamil dance in the kitchen.

Harris narrates, THE MEAL IS SO GOOD, IT MAKES ME WANT TO BUST A MOVE.

Harris says, WATCH ME DO THE AZONTO.

Sunny appears and dances.

[Slide whistle, giggling]

[Upbeat music plays]

Harris narrates, IT'S A CONTEMPORARY GHANAIAN DANCE THAT IS POPULAR AROUND THE WORLD. TWIST YOUR LEGS, SHAKE YOUR HIPS, MOVE YOUR ARMS DOWN AND UP. GO, GO, GO. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

On the indoor soccer field, Harris runs with the soccer ball.

[Panting]

Harris says, SOCCER IS GHANA S NATIONAL SPORT

Harris narrates, THE ACCRA SPORTS STADIUM CAN WELCOME 40,000 PEOPLE.

A crowd cheers in the bleachers. A soccer ball with a pattern resembling the Ghanaian flag spins. Text reads, “Black Stars.”

[Cheering]

Harris narrates, THE GHANAIAN SOCCER TEAM IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE BLACK STARS. I LIKE TO WEAR MY JERSEY ANY CHANCE I GET. I LOVE SOCCER A LOT. THE BEST PART IS PRACTISING MY SKILLS. I DO LOTS OF DRIBBLING, LOTS OF AGILITY TRAINING, AND TAKE A LOT OF SHOTS ON GOAL.

Harris jumps up and down on the field. He kicks the ball into the goal.

[Thumping]

Harris narrates, I'M A STRIKER. THAT MEANS THAT MY MAIN JOB IS SCORING GOALS.

Harris says, MY BIG DREAM IS TO BE A PRO SOCCER PLAYER. WHO KNOWS? I MIGHT PLAY FOR CANADA OR GHANA ONE DAY.

An animated blue gift box wiggles. The gift opens, and Sunny rises and blows into a party horn. Yellow text reads, “Sunny’s Surprise!”

[Upbeat music plays, party horn toots]

Harris’s dad says, WE ARE SUPER PROUD OF YOU. YOU ARE SUCH A SUPER ATHLETE AND COMMITTED STUDENT. I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU. JUST PRESS PLAY.

Harris’s dad gives him a tablet. On the screen, Rudy Doliscat, a former professional Canadian soccer player, has a shaved head and wears a grey sweater.

Rudy says, HELLO HARRIS! MY NAME IS RUDY DOLISCAT, FORMER NATIONAL TEAM SOCCER PLAYER. I HEARD THAT YOU HAVE A VERY SPECIAL DREAM OF ONE DAY SUITING UP FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM WITH GHANA. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PLAYER TAKES A LOT OF HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND DETERMINATION. I THINK YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF IF YOU WANT TO GET THERE. IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG ROAD, BUT EVERY STEP BRINGS YOU CLOSER TO YOUR GOAL. KEEP YOUR ENTHUSIASM UP. DO THE BEST THAT YOU CAN EVERY CHANCE YOU GET. ALRIGHT? TAKE CARE.
