Zadara and the others wave their arms and sway their hips. Outside, Zadara holds a chicken.

In the fire station, Zadara stands in front of a fire truck.
She says, HI. MY NAME IS ZADARA. I'M TEN YEARS OLD AND I LIVE IN LONDON, ONTARIO. I'M JAMAICAN CANADIAN WHO'S FLUENTLY BILINGUAL. I SPEAK BOTH FRENCH AND ENGLISH AND GO TO A FRENCH SCHOOL.
People stand on either side of Zadara.
Zadara says, THIS IS MY MOM, MY DAD, MY LITTLE BROTHER QUINTON AND HIS TWIN SISTER, IYLA. AND THEN MY YOUNGEST SISTER, KERISSA.
Zadara’s mom, the woman with dark, curly hair, smiles and waves. Zadara’s dad is bald and wears a firefighter’s uniform. Quinton has curly black hair, and Ilya wears her long black hair in tight braids. Kerissa wears her dark, curly brown hair tied back with a purple bow.
Zadara says, WE'RE AT FIRE STATION SEVEN, WHERE MY FATHER WORKS. HE'S A FIREMAN WHO HELPS KEEP PEOPLE SAFE FROM FIRES.
Zadara’s dad puts on his firefighting gear. He jumps in a fire truck and drives out of the fire station.
Zadara says, SOMETIMES HE EVEN GETS TO RIDE THIS BIG FIRE TRUCK.
Outside, Zadara turns to her dad sitting in the fire truck, and he honks the horn.

In a living room, Zadara wears a blue and pink tie-dye shirt.
Zadara says, WELCOME TO OUR HOME. THIS IS WHERE I LIKE TO PLAY WITH MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS.
She flips on a gymnastics bar. Quinton jumps on the couch, and Ilya taps the keys on a piano. Later, on the couch, Kerissa passes a globe to Ilya, who passes it to Quinton, who passes it to Zadara. Zadara points to a spot on the globe.
Zadara says, LONDON IS RIGHT HERE.

Zadara narrates, AFTER THAT, YOU ROLL IT LIKE THIS.
She and Sandy roll more dough.
Zadara narrates, AND THEN YOU FRY IT.
She lowers baskets of the rolled dough into a fryer.
Zadara narrates, IT LOOKS SO GOOD. I'M SO LUCKY TO HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS A RESTAURANT WHERE WE CAN EAT SOME FOOD FROM MY CULTURE!

In the restaurant, the woman hugs Zadara. She wears a knitted hat and a red apron. On the other side of the woman, a woman with short blond hair and glasses smiles.

The blond-haired woman stands in the back of the restaurant.
Zadara narrates, THIS IS MY GREAT AUNT SANDY, WHO OWNS A RESTAURANT.
The other woman cuts a plantain.
Zadara narrates, MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER JOYCE ALSO WORKS THERE.
A menu advertises oxtail and jerk chicken.
Zadara narrates, JAMAICAN CUISINE IS A FUSION OF CULINARY TECHNIQUES, FLAVORS AND SPICES INFLUENCED BY MANY DIFFERENT CULTURES. TODAY, WE'RE GONNA HAVE JERK CHICKEN, PLANTAIN, AND FESTIVAL.
Joyce ties Zadara’s apron.
Zadara narrates, ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO HAVE AN ADULT WITH YOU WHEN YOU'RE COOKING IN THE KITCHEN.
Zadara grins.
She narrates, FIRST, YOU HAVE TO WASH YOUR HANDS.
Zadara washes her hands in the kitchen sink. At a cutting board, she cuts a plantain.
Zadara narrates, WE HAVE TO SLICE THE PLANTAIN LIKE THIS, AND THEN WE HAVE TO DEEP FRY IT.
Sliced plantain fries in a pan of oil.
[Oil sizzling]
Zadara narrates, SINCE THE CHICKEN WAS ALREADY MARINATED, ALL THAT'S LEFT FOR US TO DO IS TO PUT IT IN THE OVEN.
Sandy slides a tray of chicken into the oven.
Zadara narrates, NEXT UP, WE MAKE THE FESTIVALS.
Sandy pours a splash of milk into a bowl.
Zadara narrates, FIRST YOU POUR THE MILK IN THE FLOUR MIXTURE AND THEN YOU KNEAD IT, WHICH IS MIXING WITH YOUR HANDS.
Sandy mixes the milk with a flour mixture with her hands. She and Zadara roll pieces of dough on a counter with their hands.
Zadara narrates, AFTER THAT, YOU ROLL IT LIKE THIS.
She and Sandy roll more dough.
Zadara narrates, AND THEN YOU FRY IT.
She lowers baskets of the rolled dough into a fryer.
Zadara narrates, IT LOOKS SO GOOD. I'M SO LUCKY TO HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS A RESTAURANT WHERE WE CAN EAT SOME FOOD FROM MY CULTURE!
She and her mom eat jerk chicken at a table in the restaurant.
Sadara narrates, DOESN'T IT LOOK DELICIOUS?
[Cheerful music plays]
Sunny bursts out of a gift box and blows a party horn. Text reads, “Sunny’s Surprise!”
At the fire station, Zadara stands in front of a fire truck with her mom and dad.
Zadara’s mom says, YOUR FATHER AND I ARE SO PROUD OF ALL THE WORK THAT YOU DO. BECAUSE OF THAT, WE HAVE A LITTLE SURPRISE FOR YOU.
Zadara says, THANK YOU.
Her mom passes her a tablet. Zadara watches a video of a woman with long, tightly braided black hair wearing a long-sleeved dark grey shirt.
The black-haired woman says, HI ZADARA! MY NAME IS STEPHIE MAZUNYA. I'M AN ACTRESS AND A WRITER. I BELIEVE I GOT TO WHERE I AM BY WORKING HARD AND BY BEING A GOOD TEAM PLAYER. THAT'S THE KIND OF THING THAT I BELIEVE MAKES PEOPLE WANT TO WORK WITH YOU AGAIN. THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON I'VE LEARNED IN MY CAREER IS PATIENCE. JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT GETTING SOMETHING AS FAST AS YOU WANT TO HAVE IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL NOT GET IT EVENTUALLY. WORK HARD, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, BE PATIENT, AND ALSO HAVE FUN.
Zadara smiles.
Stephie says, ZADARA, I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST. I BELIEVE IN YOU, AND I'M SURE YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH WHATEVER DREAMS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.
Zadara says, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TALK TO ME AND GIVE ME ALL THE GREAT ADVICE. THIS MAKES ME WANT TO FOLLOW MY DREAMS EVEN MORE.
[Gentle music plays]
Zadara dances with her siblings.
She narrates, IT WAS SO MUCH FUN TO SHARE MY JAMAICAN CULTURE WITH YOU. WE DANCED, WE COOKED, WE WENT HORSEBACK RIDING, AND YOU EVEN GOT TO HEAR MY ACCEPTANCE SPEECH FOR THE OSCARS!
On a couch, Zadara says, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING.
Her family sits on either side of her.
They all wave and say, BYE!
Sunny waves.
