Title: Trading Skills.
In the Skill Space, Akeylah paces behind Brody, who wears a wig with long, wavy brown hair that covers his face.
[Upbeat music plays]
Akeylah says, CUT OR NOT TO CUT? THAT IS THE QUESTION. HEY EVERYONE, WELCOME BACK TO THE SKILLS SPACE. I HAVE THIS WIG FOR MY SCHOOL PLAY, BUT IT'S CURRENTLY A LITTLE TOO...
Brody says, HAIRY! CAN I TAKE THIS THING OFF NOW?
Akeylah says, YEAH.
Brody takes off the wig and puts it on a table.
Akeylah says, THIS HAIRDO JUST WON'T DO, BUT I DON'T WANT TO MAKE THE WRONG CUT.
Brody says, I WISH THERE WAS A SKILLED TRADE TO HELP OUR STYLING SKILLS.
Anna crouches behind the table and holds up her hand with a wig on it.
Anna says, in a funny voice, WELL, YOU MAY BE IN LUCK.
Brody and Akeylah startle.
[Exclamations]
Brody says, WHOA, ANNA, I'M WIGGING OUT OVER HERE.
Anna says, SORRY FRIENDS, BUT I HAD TO TELL YOU THE GOOD NEWS. HAIR STYLING ACTUALLY IS A SKILLED TRADE.
Akeylah and Brody say, OH RIGHT, OF COURSE IT IS.
Anna says, MY FRIEND KASEY'S A HAIRSTYLIST, AND SHE'S GOING TO TAKE YOU THROUGH THE MOTIONS STEP-BY-STEP TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR WIG IS A CUT ABOVE THE REST.
In a hair salon, Kasey Erskine, a hairstylist, poses holding a pair of scissors. She has chin-length dark brown hair with green streaks and wears a black transparent shirt over a white shirt.

Brody says, HEY KASEY.
Kasey says, HEY.
Brody and Kasey high-five.
[Hands slapping]
Brody says, I GOTTA KNOW. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR A HAIRSTYLIST TO STYLE HAIR?
[Kasey sighing]
Kasey says, HAIRSTYLING IS A LOT OF THINGS. IT'S CUTTING, COLOURING, BRAIDS, AND FINISHING IT WITH SOME HEAT STYLING TOO.
Brody says, THAT'S AT LEAST... SEVERAL SKILLS.
Kasey says, YOU'RE RIGHT. LET'S GET STARTED.
Brody says, ALL RIGHT.
Brody narrates, WE STARTED AT THE BEGINNING WITH A SKILL CALLED CONSULTATION.
Kasey says, SO BRODY, THIS IS MICHELE.
Michele has long, thick, straight blonde hair.
Brody says, HI, MICHELE.
Michele says, HI, BRODY.
Kasey says, AND WE'RE GOING TO DO A CONSULTATION FIRST.
Brody asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Kasey says, IT'S A PRETTY IMPORTANT PART. WE'VE GOT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE, AND SHE'S GETTING WHAT SHE WANTS WITH HER HAIR TODAY.
Michele says, I THINK I'D LIKE JUST A CLEAN-UP TO GET RID OF THE ENDS, MAYBE.
Kasey says, THAT SOUNDS GOOD. MAYBE LIKE AN INCH, INCH AND A HALF OFF. SOME LAYERS.
Michele nods.
Michele says, YES, PLEASE. THAT SOUNDS GREAT.
Kasey says, AWESOME.
Brody says, OKAY. I THINK I KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Brody holds up gardening shears.

[Tray rattling]
Brody narrates, KASEY TOLD ME THAT WE HAD TO PRACTICE FIRST.
Kasey says, OKAY, THESE ARE OUR MANNEQUINS WHERE WE PRACTICE BEFORE
CUTTING ON REAL HAIR. FIRST, WE NEED TO WET THE HAIR. SO WITH YOUR SPRAY BOTTLE, GIVE IT A GOOD SPRITZ.
Kasey and Brody each spray the hair on different mannequins.
[Water spraying]
Kasey says, NEXT WE DO SECTIONING. YOU WANT THE HAIR TO BE SPLIT RIGHT DOWN THE CENTER. YOU CUT THE HAIR IN SECTIONS SO IT KEEPS YOUR GUIDE ALONG THE WAY. AND CLIP IT UP. MAKE SURE IT'S NICE AND CLEAN.
Kasey clips a section of hair up on her mannequin, leaving a layer of hair at the base of the neck.
Kasey asks, DO YOU WANT TO GIVE IT A TRY?
Brody says, SURE. LIKE THIS.
Brody clips a section of the red hair up.
Kasey says, SO NOW WE CAN CUT THE HAIR. YOU'RE GONNA TAKE YOUR SECTION, COMB IT STRAIGHT DOWN, AND USE YOUR SCISSORS TO MAKE YOUR FIRST CUT.
Brody cuts the hair.
[Clattering, scissors snipping]
Kasey says, SO BRODY, HOW DOES THAT FEEL?
Brody says, I FEEL LIKE I'M A 'HEAD' IN THE INDUSTRY.
Brody lifts the mannequin's head.
[Drum rim shot plays]

[Tapping]
Brody asks, SO, HOW ARE THE KIDS?
Brody cuts the red hair of the mannequin.
Brody says, TELL ME ABOUT IT! THEY GROW UP SO FAST.

[Rustling, chiming]

[Michele laughing]
Kasey says, OKAY, SO WE'LL SECTION IT UP SO WE CAN MAKE OUR FIRST CUTS.
Brody says, OKAY.
Kasey says, CLIP PLEASE.
Brody says, HERE YOU GO.
Kasey clips Michele’s hair out of the way.
Kasey says, GREAT. ARE YOU READY TO MAKE YOUR FIRST CUT?
[Suspenseful music plays, Brody exhaling heavily]
Brody says, I'M READY.
Kasey says, SO YEP, GUIDE IT ALONG, USE YOUR FINGERS, SWITCH OUT YOUR COMB, AND SNIP.

Brody says, THAT'S A LONG TIME AND BY THE SOUNDS OF IT, A LOT OF WORK.
Kasey says, YEAH, IT WAS WORTH IT THOUGH. THIS IS THE BEST JOB EVER.
Brody asks, DO YOU NEED A LICENSE IN ORDER TO CUT HAIR?
Kasey says, YOU DO. SO, AT THE END OF YOUR TRAINING, YOU HAVE TO WRITE AN EXAM, AND THEN YOU'RE A LICENSED HAIRSTYLIST.
Brody asks, WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A HAIRSTYLIST?
Kasey says, I LOVE IT BECAUSE IT'S SUPER CREATIVE AND YOU GET TO BE WITH PEOPLE ALL DAY, HEARING DIFFERENT STORIES, TALKING TO THEM ABOUT THEIR LIVES AND THEIR HAIR. IT'S ACTUALLY VERY REWARDING TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE PEOPLE AND MAKE THEM FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES JUST WITH A NEW DO.
Brody asks, ARE THERE ANY CHALLENGES?
Kasey says, DEFINITELY. SOMETIMES YOU'RE WORKING WITH PEOPLE'S EXPECTATIONS AND YOU GOT TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE ON THE SAME PAGE. THEY'RE GETTING WHAT THEY WANT AND THAT YOU CAN DELIVER EXACTLY WHAT THAT IS.
Brody says, CHALLENGES LIKE THE PHONE THAT WON'T STOP RINGING.
[Phone ringing]

Brody says, BRAID DOWN THE BACK, CLEAN UP FRIZZIES. GOT IT!
Kasey says, GOOD CONSULTING BRODY.
Brody says, THANK YOU.
Kasey says, OKAY, SO WE'RE GOING TO BRAID HER HAIR BY TAKING THREE SMALL SECTIONS AND PASSING THEM OVER EACH OTHER JUST LIKE THIS. SO THIS IS CALLED A FRENCH BRAID.
Brody says, AH, MAIS OUI.
[Kasey chuckling]
Kasey says, BRODY, GET ON IN HERE. HOLD THAT PIECE. GRAB THIS GUY. YOU CAN PASS THAT OVER, TO ME. PERFECT.
Brody helps Kasey braid the brown-haired woman’s hair.
Kasey says, THIS IS THE EASY PART WHEN YOU CAN JUST TAKE THE THREE SECTIONS LIKE THIS. ONE, TWO, THREE. WANNA TRY?
Brody braids the hair.
Brody says, ONE, TWO, THREE.
Kasey says, ELASTIC. AND I THINK THAT'S IT.

Brody pushes down on top of the canister using the funnel and bowl.
[Brody grunting]
Kasey says, PERFECT. AND NOW WE MIX IT ALL TOGETHER.
Brody stirs the colours in the bowl.
Brody says, IT'S LIKE I'M MAKING AN OMELET.
Kasey says, YEAH, DON'T EAT IT THOUGH.
Brody asks, WHAT COLOUR DOES THIS MAKE?
Kasey says, IT'S ACTUALLY KIND OF A CARAMEL.
