[Soothing music plays]
In video footage, Akeylah sits in a cave beside a cave painting. She mixes paint on a flat stone.
Brody narrates, HUMANS HAVE BEEN PAINTING WALLS AS FAR BACK AS 60,000 YEARS AGO. BACK THEN, PAINT WAS MADE BY MIXING CHARCOAL AND MINERALS WITH ANIMAL FAT AND SALIVA.
In video footage, Akeylah paints the outside of a building white. In black-and-white video footage, Akeylah holds a paintbrush and stands by a ladder.
Brody narrates, IN ANCIENT GREECE, PEOPLE REALIZED THAT PAINTING THE EXTERIOR OF THEIR BUILDINGS WHITE WOULD KEEP THEM COOLER IN THE HOT SUMMER SUN. WITH INDUSTRIALIZATION IN THE NINETEENTHTH CENTURY AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF LARGE BUILDINGS, THE NEED FOR COMMERCIAL PAINTING BECAME APPARENT.
In video footage, Akeylah paints a wall. Someone gives her a certificate with a red seal.
Brody narrates, TODAY, COMMERCIAL PAINTING HAS BECOME A RESPECTED RED SEAL CERTIFIED TRADE WITH HUNDREDS OF COMMERCIAL PAINTING BUSINESSES ACROSS ONTARIO.
[Upbeat music plays]
In the Finishing Trades Institute, Mandy and Brody stand in a room with bare walls.
Mandy says, SO, BRODY, IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE READY FOR WALL COVERING NEXT.
Brody says, LET'S WRAP THIS UP.
Mandy says, SO, THIS IS THE WALL COVERING WE'RE GOING TO BE USING TODAY.

Mandy replies, WELL, WALL COVERINGS GIVE THE ROOM A LITTLE BIT MORE STYLE. THERE'S DIFFERENT PATTERNS HERE, TEXTURES. IT BRINGS A LITTLE BIT MORE LIFE INTO YOUR ROOM. YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF OVERLAP ON YOUR PREVIOUS SHEET HERE. AND YOU WANT TO PULL IT A LITTLE BIT.
Mandy stands on a ladder and holds the wall covering against the wall. Brody pulls the bottom of the covering over the edge of a previous wall covering.
Brody says, THERE WE GO.
[Scraping]

Brody gives Mandy the bucket.
Mandy says, THANK YOU. AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO PUT A LITTLE BIT OF GLUE ON THERE.
[Rustling]
Mandy spreads glue on a corner of the wall covering.
Mandy says, AS A PERSON WHO SPECIALIZES IN WALL COVERING, YOU CAN ACTUALLY MAKE TONNES OF MONEY DOING THIS STUFF.
[Air horns blaring]
Brody says, CHA CHING.
Mandy says, I'M NOW WORKING ON OUR DOUBLE CUT HERE.
Brody asks, WHAT'S A DOUBLE CUT?
Mandy replies, A DOUBLE CUT IS MEANT TO CUT THROUGH BOTH SHEETS AT THE SAME TIME TO MAKE A PERFECT SEAM.
[Scraping]
Brody pulls a strip of the wall covering off the wall. Mandy smooths the wall covering.
Mandy says, ALL RIGHT BRODY, DO YOU WANT TO HELP ME SMOOTH THIS OUT?
[Scraping]
Brody smooths the wall covering.
Brody says, DON'T WORRY, MANDY, I GOTCHA...COVERED.
[Mandy laughing, whooshing]
Text reads, “Trading Skills.”
[Upbeat music plays, chiming]
In the Skill Space, Brody hangs a photograph of himself holding a paint roller on the wall, which is painted orange with white lines.
Akeylah says, WHO KNEW JUST A BIT OF PAINT CAN MAKE SUCH A DRAMATIC DIFFERENCE IN THE SKILL SPACE?
Brody says, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE HOW THE TRADES CAN SPICE UP YOUR LIFE. AND MAYBE BEING A COMMERCIAL PAINTER IS IN THE MIX FOR YOUR FUTURE.
Akeylah says, EVEN IF IT ISN'T, THERE'S STILL A HUGE ARRAY OF SKILLED TRADES THAT CAN FILL YOUR BUCKET AND BRING YOU TO THE TOP.
Brody says, SEE YOU LATER!
Both say, BYE!
Akeylah says, SO, I WAS THINKING MY POSTER COULD GO RIGHT NEXT TO IT?

Mandy replies, LOOK AT TRAINING PROGRAMS THAT EXIST FOR YOUNG FOLKS AND LOOK AT WHAT'S OUT THERE FOR YOU, BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH SKILLED TRADES. SO, SHALL WE GET BACK TO WORK?
Brody picks up a paint can.
Brody says, CAN DO.
Mandy says, LET'S DO IT.
[Upbeat music continues]
Brody and Mandy put on coveralls.
Brody narrates, GETTING BACK TO WORK, MANDY WANTED TO SHOW ME A DIFFERENT PAINTING METHOD, BUT FIRST WE NEEDED TO GET SUITED UP.
Mandy says, SO, BRODY, THIS IS OUR SPRAY BOOTH.
Brody says, THIS PLACE LOOKS AWESOME.
Mandy kneels beside a spray machine. She puts the paint intake hose into a can of vibrant blue paint.
Mandy says, HERE WE HAVE OUR SPRAY MACHINE. WE CHOSE BLUE TODAY. HERE WE HAVE THE INTAKE AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT'S IN OUR PAINT. SO, YOU JUST PICK IT UP AND YOU PLACE IT RIGHT IN THERE.
[Whooshing, popping]
An arrow points at the paint intake in the can. Text reads, “Paint Intake.”

Brody says, I'VE GOT MY HANDS FULL OF HELPING CLEAN-UP OUR STATION. WHILE I DO THAT, WHY DON'T WE BRUSH UP ON THE HISTORY OF COMMERCIAL PAINTING?

Brody asks, WHY USE WALL COVERINGS? WHY NOT JUST PAINT IT?
[Scraping]
Mandy moves a paint scraper over the wall covering.
Mandy says, AS YOU CAN SEE, I'M TRYING TO GET ALL THE AIR BUBBLES OUT. A BIT OF THIS IS COMING OFF THE WALL. COULD YOU PASS ME THAT BUCKET WITH SOME GLUE IN IT?
Brody says, SURE. I'LL HELP YOU IN YOUR STICKY SITUATION.
[Scraping]

Akeylah says, EVEN IF IT ISN'T, THERE'S STILL A HUGE ARRAY OF SKILLED TRADES THAT CAN FILL YOUR BUCKET AND BRING YOU TO THE TOP.
Brody says, SEE YOU LATER!
Both say, BYE!
Akeylah says, SO, I WAS THINKING MY POSTER COULD GO RIGHT NEXT TO IT?
