Sly says, WORD MYSTERY? I THINK SO.
[Beeping]
In his clinic, Vet Wilder says, WORD DETECTIVES, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS NEW SIGN FOR MY VET CLINIC?
Vet Wilder holds a sign featuring a dog wearing an eye patch and a plastic Elizabethan collar. Text reads, “Wilder’s Vet Clinic.”
Gabby says, UM... HUH.
Sly says, UH...
[Vet Wilder sighing, upbeat music plays quietly]
Vet Wilder says, NOT YOU, TOO. UGH! EVERY TIME I ASK SOMEONE WHAT THEY THINK OF MY NEW SIGN, I GET THE SAME CONFUSED ANSWERS.
Gabby asks, HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN HAPPENING?
Vet Wilder says, EVER SINCE MY FEEDBACK BOX WENT MISSING. SEE?
In a photograph, Vet Wilder poses with a blue box with a slot and the word “Feedback” on the front.
Sly says, SO THE WORD "FEEDBACK" IS MISSING.
A dictionary definition appears beside Sly. Above the definition are a lowercase and uppercase letter “F,” a speaker icon, and text that reads, “Feedback. Noun.” The definition reads, “Feedback is when you share your opinion about how well something is working.”

Sly asks, IS THIS WHY WE CAN'T SAY WHAT WE THINK ABOUT BAKER GRAHAM'S NEW TART?
Gabby says, IT MUST BE. FEEDBACK CAN BE THINGS YOU LIKE OR DON'T LIKE.
Vet Wilder says, THAT'S WHY I MADE MY FEEDBACK BOX, TO GET HELPFUL IDEAS ON HOW TO MAKE MY VET CLINIC SIGN BETTER.
Gabby says, WE'LL SOLVE THIS WORD MYSTERY. TELL US WHAT HAPPENED, AND SLY WILL ANIMATE IT.
Sly says, RECAP TIME!
Sly makes a computer animation of Vet Wilder and Reporter Read in the veterinary clinic. A skunk rests in a cage beside them. The computer-animated people have cut-out photographs of their heads on top of their animated bodies. A computer animation of Baker Graham enters.
[Clicking]
Vet Wilder narrates, I'D JUST FINISHED DOING AN INTERVIEW FOR REPORTER READ ABOUT SULLY, MY NEW RESCUE SKUNK, WHEN BAKER GRAHAM DROPPED OFF A FEW TARTS FOR US TO TRY.
BEFORE WE TRIED THE TARTS, I TOOK THE CHANCE TO ASK FOR FEEDBACK ON MY NEW CLINIC SIGN. I GAVE THEM PIECES OF PAPER TO WRITE THEIR OPINIONS, THEN GRABBED MY TART AND LEFT THE ROOM SO THEY COULD PUT THEIR HONEST FEEDBACK IN THE BOX. WHEN I CAME BACK, BOTH OF THEM AND MY FEEDBACK BOX WERE GONE!
[Beeping]
Sly’s animation ends.
Gabby says, THANKS, VET WILDER. NOW, CAN YOU SHOW US THE SCENE OF THE MYSTERY, PLEASE?
Vet Wilder says, THE FEEDBACK BOX WAS RIGHT OVER HERE.
On a countertop, a tart with a missing bite lies on a blank piece of paper with a chocolate thumbprint.
Sly says, I'LL TAKE A SCREENSHOT.
[Camera shutter snapping]
Gabby says, VET WILDER, WE'LL SOLVE THIS CASE, SO YOU SIGN WILL GET THE FEEDBACK IT DESERVES.
Vet Wilder waves and says, BYE.
Vet Wilder ends his call. Gabby and Sly continue on their video call.
[Beeping]
Sly says, CASE NOTES TIME.
A heading reads, “Case Notes.” A subheading reads, “The Case of the Missing Feedback.” A paintbrush, a camera and a text icon are under the headings.
Text on the case note paper reads, “What: Someone took the feedback box. Where: The Vet Clinic. When: Vet Wilder left the room.”
[Typing]
Gabby says, WHAT HAPPENED IS SOMEONE TOOK VET WILDER'S FEEDBACK BOX, AND NOW WE CAN'T SAY WHAT WE LIKE OR DON'T LIKE ABOUT ANYTHING.
Sly says, AND WE KNOW WHERE IT HAPPENED, AT VET WILDER'S CLINIC. AND IT HAPPENED WHEN HE LEFT THE ROOM.
Photographs of Reporter Read and Baker Graham appear on the case notes.
[Clicking]
Sly says, AND OUR SUSPECTS ARE REPORTER READ, AND BAKER GRAHAM.
Gabby says, NOW WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHO DID IT, HOW, AND WHY.
Text reads, “Who, how, why.”
Sly says, LET'S LOOK AT THE CLUES.
The photograph of the tart and paper appears.
Gabby says, THERE'S A TART WITH A BITE TAKEN OUT OF IT.
Sly says, AND A BLANK FEEDBACK PAPER, WITH A CHOCOLATE THUMBPRINT ON IT.
Gabby says, HMM, SINCE BAKER GRAHAM MADE THE TARTS, LET'S INTERVIEW HIM FIRST.
Baker Graham’s photograph appears. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Calling Baker Graham.”
[Ringing, ambient music plays]
In the bakery, Baker Graham stirs chocolate in a large bowl.
Baker Graham says, WORD DETECTIVES, I'M WHIPPING UP SOME OF MY NEW TART. THE CHOCO-LEMON EXTRAVAGANZA.
Gabby nods,
Baker Graham says, PEOPLE SAY THEY'RE INDESCRIBABLE.
Sly says, YEAH, THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO PUT IT.
Gabby says, WE CAN'T DESCRIBE WHAT WE LIKE OR DON'T LIKE ABOUT YOUR TARTS, BECAUSE THE WORD "FEEDBACK" IS MISSING.
Baker Graham says, OH? THAT'S TOO BAD.
HUH, WE SAW A PAPER AT THE VET CLINIC WITH THE SAME CHOCOLATE THUMBPRINT ON IT AS YOUR APRON.
Baker Graham says, OH, THAT'S BECAUSE VET WILDER GAVE ME THIS PIECE OF PAPER TO WRITE MY FEEDBACK. BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO WRITE ANY CRITICISM.
Sly asks, WHAT'S CRITICISM?
Baker Graham says, THE SAME THING AS FEEDBACK. WHAT YOU SAY WHEN YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING.
[Typing]
Gabby says, FEEDBACK CAN BE WHAT YOU DO LIKE ABOUT SOMETHING, TOO, BAKER GRAHAM.
Baker Graham says, I'M NOT SURE THAT'S TRUE. BESIDES, HEARING WHAT PEOPLE DON'T LIKE CAN HURT SOMEONE'S FEELINGS.
A sketch of Baker Graham covering his ears appears on his photograph in the case notes. The case notes read, “Vet Wilder gave him a paper for his feedback. He didn’t want to writer criticism. Thinks feedback is the same as criticism. Thinks hearing what people don’t like is hurtful.”
[Pencil scratching]
Gabby explains, IT SHOULDN'T HURT ANYONE'S FEELINGS IF IT'S CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
Baker Graham asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Gabby says, THAT'S WHEN YOU NICELY EXPLAIN WHY YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING TO HELP MAKE IT BETTER.
Baker Graham says, IT STILL SOUNDS HURTFUL TO ME, BUT IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME, WORD DETECTIVES, I HAVE MORE TARTS TO MAKE.
Sly says, THE TART! BAKER GRAHAM, AT THE VET CLINIC, WE SAW A TART WITH ONE BITE TAKEN, AND--
Baker Graham says, I MAKE TARTS. I DON'T MAKE PEOPLE EAT THEM.
Baker Graham ends the call. Gabby and Sly stay on their video call.
[Beeping]
Gabby says, HE SEEMED SUPER SOUR. DO YOU THINK HE ATE TOO MANY LEMONS?
Sly says, MAYBE. BAKER GRAHAM DOESN'T THINK FEEDBACK CAN BE POSITIVE.
Gabby says, AND HE DOESN'T LIKE ANY KIND OF CRITICISM.
Sly says, I HOPE HE CAN HANDLE MY FEEDBACK WHEN WE FINALLY SOLVE THIS CASE.
Gabby says, LET'S CALL REPORTER READ.
Reporter Read’s photograph appears. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Calling Reporter Read.”
[Ringing]
In the newsroom, Reporter Read says, HI, WORD DETECTIVES. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS HEADLINE? "SKUNKS SMELL."
Gabby says, HMM-MM...
Sly says, HUH? WHAT?
Reporter Read says, I HAD A FEELING THAT'S WHAT YOU WOULD SAY. I'M WRITING A REPORT ON VET WILDER'S RESCUE SKUNK. AND I KNOW SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THE HEADLINE, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT.
Sly says, THAT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE THE WORD "FEEDBACK" IS MISSING.
Reporter Read says, WELL, THAT MAKES SENSE. I NEED FEEDBACK ON WHAT I WRITE IN MY REPORTS, TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE CLEAR, FAIR, AND HONEST.
BUT SOMETIMES WHEN I GIVE PEOPLE MY FEEDBACK, I CAN BE TOO HONEST, AND HURT THEIR FEELINGS.
Gabby says, THAT CAN BE A PROBLEM WITH FEEDBACK.
Sly says, WHICH REMINDS ME, WE FOUND A TART WITH ONE BITE OUT OF IT AT THE VET CLINIC, IS IT YOURS?
Reporter Read says, YES. I HAVE A ONE-BITE RULE. IT MEANS, I'LL TRY A BITE OF ANYTHING. IF I LIKE IT, I'LL HAVE MORE. IF I DON'T LIKE IT, I'LL STOP.
Gabby asks, WHAT HAPPENED AFTER YOUR ONE BITE?
A sketch of Reporter Read looking at her tart appears on her photograph in the case notes. Case notes read, “Needs feedback on reporter. Can be too honest when she gives feedback. Only ate one bite of the tart. That hurt Baker Graham’s feelings.”
[Pencil scratching]
Reporter Read says, I STOPPED. AND IT REALLY HURT BAKER GRAHAM'S FEELINGS. HE DIDN'T EVEN GIVE ME A CHANCE TO SAY ANYTHING. AFTER I UPSET HIM, I DIDN'T WANT TO RISK UPSETTING VET WILDER WITH MY FEEDBACK ON HIS SIGN. I SHOULD FINISH MY REPORT. TALK LATER.
Reporter Read ends the call. Sly and Gabby stay on their video call.
[Beeping]
Sly says, WE SHOULD TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT OUR CASE NOTES. WHAT DID WE LEARN?
The case notes appear. The last note beneath Reporter Read’s photograph reads, “Didn’t want to upset Vet Wilder.” The word “feedback” changes to red text. The line “Didn’t want to upset Vet Wilder” changes to red text.
[Clicking]
Gabby says, THAT BAKER GRAHAM DOESN'T LIKE FEEDBACK.
Sly says, AND REPORTER READ NEEDS FEEDBACK.
Gabby says, BUT SHE DIDN'T WANT TO UPSET VET WILDER AFTER SHE UPSET BAKER GRAHAM.
Sly says, WAIT, REPORTER READ DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE TART.
Gabby says, YOU'RE RIGHT, SHE JUST STOPPED EATING IT. BUT BAKER GRAHAM STILL GOT HURT.
Gabby changes the phrase “That hurt Baker Graham’s feelings” to red text.
[Clicking]
Sly says, TAKING THE WORD "FEEDBACK" WOULDN'T CHANGE THAT.
Gabby says, WHICH MEANS, ONLY PERSON COULD HAVE COMMITTED THIS WORD MYSTERY.
Sly says, LET'S SHOW THEM WHO, HOW, AND WHY.
Photographs of Gabby, Vet Wilder, Sly, Baker Graham, and Reporter Read appear. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Multiple people connecting to call.”
[Ringing]
In his office, Sly announces, NOW PRESENTING, THE WORD MYSTERY

Reporter Read leaves.
Sly, as Baker Graham, says, AND SO SHOULD THIS FEEDBACK BOX.
Baker Graham takes the feedback box. The animation ends.

Baker Graham says, FINE.
Photographs of Gabby, Vet Wilder, Sly, Baker Graham, and Reporter Read appear. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Multiple people connecting to call.”
[Ringing]

Baker Graham says, OH, HEARING THAT FEEDBACK WASN'T SO BAD. NOW I KNOW WHAT TO FIX. I GET IT NOW. I'M SORRY FOR TAKING THE FEEDBACK BOX.
Vet Wilder says, IT'S OKAY. I'M GLAD YOU SEE HOW HELPFUL FEEDBACK AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM CAN BE.
NOW, BACK TO MY NEW SIGN. THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, IDEAS?
Baker Graham asks, WHY IS THE PUPPY A PIRATE?
Reporter Read asks, CAN IT BE A KITTEN?
Sly says, IT SHOULD BE A SNAKE!
Reporter Read says, NO, WAIT, A BASKET OF KITTENS. ALL THE KITTENS!
Sly asks, AND CAN IT BE JUMPING?
Baker Graham says, I REALLY LIKE HORSES.
Gabby shrugs and says, WELL, YOU DID ASK FOR FEEDBACK.
Vet Wilder says, TRUE.
Vet Wilder, Baker Graham, and Reporter Read say, THANKS, WORD DETECTIVES.
Gabby says, OH! WHAT ABOUT A PIG?
Sly says, I STILL THINK I LIKE THE SNAKE.
Vet Wilder smiles and shakes his head.
