A child says, WEE!
T.V.O. Kids and Sinking Ship Entertainment Original.

[Child giggles, upbeat music plays, pop]

Sly stands in front of his desk. He has short, curly black hair and wears an olive green jacket. Bright orange letters spell his name down the left side of his jacket.

[Upbeat music plays]

Sly says, DID A WORD THAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU GO MISSING?

Gabby stands beside her desk. Her long black hair is braided. She wears a black bowler hat, a blue-green cardigan, and a white blouse. On the left side of her cardigan, Gabby wears a name tag with her name in green.

Gabby says, AND NOW ALL YOU CAN FEEL, DO, OR THINK IS THE OPPOSITE OF THAT WORD?

Sly says, THEN CALL US! I'M SLY.

Gabby says, AND I'M GABBY. WE'RE WORD DETECTIVES, AND WE SOLVE...

Both say, WORD MYSTERIES!

Sly sits at his desk, a lime green laptop computer in front of him. On the top of the computer, a drawing of Sly holding a magnifying glass is displayed.

Sly says, TOGETHER, WE RUN THE WORDSVILLE ONLINE DETECTIVE AGENCY.

Gabby says, WE'LL FIND YOUR MISSING WORD, FAST.

Gabby sits at her desk behind a laptop computer. At the top of the computer, there is a drawing of a cat looking through a magnifying glass.

Sly says, NOT TO MENTION, BRISKLY.

Gabby says, AND SWIFTLY.

Sly says, YEAH, WE'RE REALLY GOOD WITH WORDS.

Children shout, WORDSVILLE!

Colourful letters spell Wordsville. A black magnifying glass lies over the letter 'W'. Text reads, Created by Christin Simms.

Gabby and Sly are on a video call.

In her office, Gabby says excitedly, SO, I RAN OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT THE SOUND WAS. AND I SAW A LEAF PILE WAS MOVING. YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT WAS UNDER THE LEAVES.

In his office, Sly guesses excitedly, A ROBOT! A DUCK! A LEAF MONSTER!

Gabby says excitedly, IT WAS...

Gabby and her office turn grey. Her blue lamp, sweater, hairband, and sweater remain a duller shade of blue.

Gabby says flatly, JUST SOMEBODY'S PET. HUH. THE ENDING OF MY STORY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE EXCITING. BUT IT GOT REALLY DULL. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SCREEN? AND MY OFFICE.

[Suspenseful music plays]

Sly’s office is grey, with dulled shades of red.

Sly says flatly, WAIT. WHY DO ALL THE COLORS LOOK DIFFERENT?

Gabby says flatly, I BET THIS IS A WORD MYSTERY. YIPPEE. I LOVE THOSE.

Artist Clay’s photograph appears. Text above a dull green telephone receiver icon reads, “Artist Clay calling.”

[Ringing]

Sly says flatly, OH, LOOK, ARTIST CLAY IS CALLING. I BET HE HAS FEELINGS ABOUT THIS.

[Beeping]

Dull spots of colour appear in Artist Clay’s grey art studio.

Artist Clay says flatly, THE WORLD IS GRAY AND SO AM I. SOMEONE TOOK MY VIBRANT PAINT PALETTE. THIS ONE.

He shows a photograph of a paint palette with the word “Vibrant” in the middle.

"VIBRANT" MEANS A BRIGHT AND STRONG COLOR.

A dictionary definition appears beside Sly. Above the definition are a lowercase and uppercase letter “V,” a speaker icon, and text that reads, “Vibrant. Adjective.” The definition reads, “Vibrant means bright, as you might describe a colour. But it can also mean lively, as you might describe a person or a thing.”

Gabby says flatly, THAT'S ONE WAY TO DEFINE "VIBRANT."

Sly says flatly, BUT THE DICTIONARY SAYS IT CAN ALSO MEAN "LIVELY." AS YOU MIGHT DESCRIBE A PERSON OR A THING.

Gabby says flatly, NORMALLY, WE COULD SEE THAT THESE ORANGE AND RED FALL LEAVES ARE VIBRANT.

Sly says flatly, OR THAT SOMEONE COULD HAVE A VIBRANT PERSONALITY.

[Tense music plays softly]

Artist Clay says flatly, CAN WE FOCUS ON WHAT'S IMPORTANT HERE?

WITH THE WORD "VIBRANT" MISSING, ALL MY OTHER PAINT COLORS ARE JUST DULL, DRAB, DREARY, AND JUST BLEH.

Sly says flatly, AND SO IS THE WHOLE WORLD.

Gabby says, THIS IS DEFINITELY A WORD MYSTERY.

Sly holds a pencil and says flatly, TELL US WHAT HAPPENED, ARTIST CLAY, AND I'LL SHOW US. RECAP TIME.

Sly makes a computer animation of Artist Clay talking to Reporter Read in the art studio. Animated Firefighter Ember enters and stands behind Reporter Read. The computer-animated people have cut-out photographs of their heads on top of their animated bodies.

[Clicking]

Artist Clay narrates flatly, REPORTER READ ASKED ME TO PAINT THE COVER OF HER NEW BOOK. WE WERE PASSIONATELY DISCUSSING OUR DIFFERENT ARTISTIC IDEAS WHEN FIREFIGHTER EMBER CAME IN.

SHE ASKED TO BORROW SOME BRIGHT PAINT COLORS, BUT I SAID I NEED THEM FOR REPORTER READ'S BOOK COVER. I LEFT THE ROOM TO GET SOME BRUSHES. WHEN I CAME BACK, MY VIBRANT PALETTE WAS GONE. AND SO WERE REPORTER READ AND FIREFIGHTER EMBER.

Sly’s animation ends.

[Beeping]

Gabby says flatly, FASCINATING. CAN YOU SHOW US THE SCENE OF THE MYSTERY?

Artist Clay says flatly, I LEFT MY PALETTE ON THIS TABLE.

Artist Clay shows the edge of the table. Beside the table is a piece of paper and bootprints.

[Chiming, clicking]

Sly says flatly, I'M TAKING A SCREENSHOT FOR OUR CASE NOTES.

[Camera shutter snapping]

Gabby says flatly, WE'LL SOLVE THIS CASE, ARTIST CLAY.

Artist Clay ends the call.

[Beeping]

Sly says flatly, CASE NOTES TIME.

A heading reads, “Case Notes.” A subheading reads, “The Case of the Vibrancy Void.” A paintbrush, a camera and a text icon are under the headings. Gabby makes notes.

[Typing]

Gabby says flatly, WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. SOMEONE STOLE ARTIST CLAY'S VIBRANT PAINT PALETTE.

Sly says flatly, AND NOW OUR USUALLY BRIGHT AND EXCITING WORLD IS DULL.

Gabby says flatly, IT HAPPENED WHEN ARTIST CLAY LEFT THE ROOM TO GET BRUSHES.

Sly says flatly, AND THE ART STUDIO IS WHERE IT HAPPENED.

Notes read, “What: Someone stole the vibrant palette. When: Artist Clay went to get brushes. Where: The Art Studio.”

Gabby says flatly, REPORTER READ AND FIREFIGHTER EMBER ARE OUR SUSPECTS.

Black and white photographs of Firefighter Ember and Reporter Read appear.

Sly says flatly, TO FIND OUT WHO DID IT, HOW, AND WHY, LET'S LOOK AT THE CLUES.

Text reads, “Who, How,” and “Why?”

The photograph of the table and floor appears.

[Clicking]

Gabby says flatly, THERE ARE BOOTPRINTS IN PAINT.

Sly says flatly, AND A PIECE OF PAPER WITH A LOT OF PRINTED WORDS ON IT.

Gabby says flatly, WE CAN START WITH THE PERSON WHO NEEDED BRIGHT PAINT.

Firefighter Ember’s photograph appears. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Calling Firefighter Ember.”

[Ringing]

In the fire station, Firefighter Ember cleans the bottom of a boot.

Firefighter Ember says, HI, WORD DETECTIVES. IS THIS ABOUT WORDSVILLE BEING...

Sly says flatly, BLAH, DULL, BORING? BASICALLY. WHY DID YOU GO TO THE ART STUDIO?

Firefighter Ember says, I NEEDED BRIGHT PAINT TO REPAINT THE TOWN'S FIRE HYDRANTS, BECAUSE THE PAINT ON THEM IS OLD AND DULL. BUT ARTIST CLAY WOULDN'T LEND ME HIS VIBRANT PAINT PALETTE.

Gabby types case notes.

[Typing]

Gabby asks flatly, DID THAT ANNOY YOU?

A sketch of Artist Clay spilling paint by Firefighter Ember appears. Case notes read, “Needed bright paint to paint the town’s fire hydrants. The paint on them is old and dull. Annoyed Artist Clay wouldn’t lend her the vibrant palette. He kept spilling paint as he and Reporter Read argued.”

Firefighter Ember says, IT DID. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE KEPT SPILLING VIBRANT PAINT WHILE HE AND REPORTER READ WERE ARGUING. WHEN HE WENT TO GET SOME BRUSHES, I ACCIDENTALLY STEPPED IN PAINT. SO I CAME HERE TO CLEAN MY BOOTS, WHICH I'VE YET TO FINISH.

Firefighter Ember ends the call.

[Beeping]

Gabby says flatly, FIREFIGHTER EMBER WANTED BRIGHT COLORS FOR THE TOWN FIRE HYDRANTS.

Sly says flatly, RIGHT. WHICH MEANS SHE MIGHT HAVE TAKEN THE PALETTE.

Gabby says flatly, YOU KNOW, USUALLY I FIND THIS PART EXCITING. BUT WITH THE WORD VIBRANT MISSING, NOTHING IS.

Sly says flatly, WE BETTER TALK TO REPORTER READ IF WE WANT TO GET BACK TO NORMAL.

Reporter Read’s photograph appears. Text above a dull green telephone receiver icon reads, “Calling Reporter Read.”

[Ringing]

In the newsroom, Reporter Read says flatly, I DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO TALK, WORD DETECTIVES. I'VE GOT MY OWN WORRIES. EVERY REPORT I'VE WRITTEN THIS AFTERNOON IS BORING.

Gabby says flatly, I'M SURE THAT'S RELATED TO OUR CASE. CAN YOU TELL US WHAT HAPPENED AT THE ART STUDIO?

In the case notes, a sketch of Artist Clay and Reporter Read appears over her photograph.

[Pencil scratching]

Reporter Read says flatly, I HAD ASKED ARTIST CLAY TO PAINT THE COVER OF MY NEW BOOK. HE WANTED TO USE VIBRANT COLORS, LIKE BRIGHT PINK OR NEON GREEN. I WANTED MY BOOK COVER TO BE A STRIKING COMBINATION OF BLACK AND WHITE, TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT MY BOOK COVERS IMPORTANT TOPICS IN A LIVELY WAY.

Beneath the dictionary definition for Vibrant, synonyms appear, including “Lively, Exciting, Energetic.”

Gabby says flatly, HUH. "LIVELY" IS A SYNONYM FOR ONE OF THE DEFINITIONS OF "VIBRANT".

Sly says flatly, THEY MEAN THE SAME THING.

Reporter Read says flatly, WAIT, YOU'RE RIGHT. LOTS OF THINGS CAN BE VIBRANT, NOT JUST COLORS.

Gabby says flatly, BUT NOW EVERYTHING IS BLAH.

Reporter Read says flatly, RIGHT. AND MY NEWS STORIES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE EXCITING, NOT BORING. I WAS SO FRUSTRATED BY MY ARGUMENT WITH ARTIST CLAY, I FORGOT THE WORD "VIBRANT" HAS MORE THAN ONE MEANING.

Sly asks flatly, WOULD YOU HAVE DONE ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY IF YOU HAD REMEMBERED?

Reporter Read looks away from the screen.

Reporter Read says flatly, UM... NO, OF COURSE NOT. A PAGE OF MY MANUSCRIPT IS MISSING. I MUST FIND IT. BYE.

Reporter Read clenches her jaw and ends the call.

[Beeping]

The photograph of the table, paper, and bootprints appears.

[Clicking]

Gabby says flatly, VERY INTERESTING. LET'S GO OVER WHAT WE'VE GOT SO FAR. THE PAINT FOOTPRINTS ARE FROM FIREFIGHTER EMBER'S BOOTS.

Sly says flatly, AND THE PRINTED PAGE MUST BE FROM REPORTER READ'S BOOK.

Gabby says, FIREFIGHTER EMBER COULD HAVE TAKEN THE PALETTE BECAUSE SHE NEEDED BRIGHT PINK FOR HER HYDRANTS.

The case notes beneath Reporter Read read, “Asked Artist Clay to paint the cover of her new book. He wanted to use vibrant paint. She wanted to use black and white. She was frustrated and forgot vibrant had two meanings.”

[Clicking]

Sly says flatly, WHILE REPORTER READ COULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO KEEP ARTIST CLAY FROM USING VIBRANT COLORS ON HER BOOK COVER.

[Upbeat music plays quietly]

Gabby says flatly, THEY'RE BOTH EQUALLY SUSPICIOUS.

Sly says flatly, EXCEPT REPORTER READ FORGOT THINGS OTHER THAN COLORS CAN BE VIBRANT.

Gabby says flatly, AND ACTED SUSPICIOUS WHEN WE REMINDED HER.

Sly asks, GABBY, DID WE JUST SOLVE THIS WORD MYSTERY?

Gabby says flatly, I THINK WE DID.

Sly says flatly, THAT'S GOOD. I'M STARTING TO FEEL LIKE A BORED ROBOT WITH THIS VOICE.

Gabby says flatly, LET'S SHOW THEM HOW IT HAPPENED.

Photographs of Gabby, Artist Clay, Sly, Firefighter Ember, and Reporter Read appear. Text above a dull green telephone receiver icon reads, “Multiple people connecting to call.”

[Ringing]

Sly says flatly, NOW PRESENTING THE WORD MYSTERY ANIMATED REENACTMENT OF…THE CASE OF THE VIBRANCY VOID.

Sly makes a computer animation of Artist Clay talking to Reporter Read in the art studio. Animated Firefighter Ember enters and stands behind Reporter Read. The computer-animated people have cut-out photographs of their heads on top of their animated bodies.

Sly, as Artist Clay, says, IT SHOULD BE BRIGHT PINK OR NEON GREEN, VIBRANT AND STRONG.

Gabby, as Reporter Read, says, I WANT IT TO BE BLACK AND WHITE, SO PEOPLE KNOWIT'S AN IMPORTANT STORY.

Sly, as Firefighter Ember, says, WHAT IF I BORROW THE BRIGHT COLORS? I COULD REALLY USE THEM FOR THE TOWN FIRE HYDRANTS.

Sly, as Artist Clay, says, SORRY, I NEED THEM. EXCUSE ME, I NEED TO GET SOME BRUSHES.

Reporter Read drops the page.

Gabby, as Reporter Read, says, IT'S FRUSTRATING THAT YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME.

Sly, as Firefighter Ember, says, MY BOOT, OH NO.

Gabby, as Reporter Read, says, IF THE VIBRANT PALETTE'S NOT HERE, HE CAN'T PAINT MY BOOK WITH IT.

Reporter Read takes the palette. Sly’s animation ends.

In his office, Sly says flatly, REPORTER READ IS WHO DID IT.

[Dramatic music plays]

[Reporter Read sighing]

In her office, Gabby says flatly, SHE PICKED UP THE PALETTE WHEN SHE WAS ALONE IN THE ART STUDIO AND LEFT.

Sly says flatly, THAT'S HOW SHE DID IT.

Gabby says flatly, WHY? BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT VIBRANT COLORS ON HER BOOK COVER.

Sly says flatly, AND SHE FELT THAT ARTIST CLAY WASN'T LISTENING TO HER IDEAS.

[Gentle music plays]

Reporter Read says flatly, OKAY, YOU GOT ME. I TOOK IT SO ARTIST CLAY COULDN'T USE IT TO PAINT MY BOOK COVER, BUT I FORGOT TAKING THE WORD "VIBRANT" MEANT THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BECOME LIFELESS AND UNEXCITING, INCLUDING MY NEW STORIES. I'LL RETURN THE VIBRANT PALETTE RIGHT AWAY.

Photographs of Gabby, Artist Clay, Sly, Firefighter Ember, and Reporter Read appear. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Multiple people connecting to call.”

[Ringing]

In the art studio, the colours have returned. Artist Clay happily holds up his vibrant paint palette.

Artist Clay says, ALL THE COLORS ARE BACK AND THE WORLD IS VIBRANT AGAIN.

In the newsroom, Reporter Read says, I'M SORRY FOR TAKING YOUR PALETTE.

Artist Clay says, AND I'M SORRY FOR NOT LISTENING BETTER. I JUST WANTED TO REPRESENT THE LIVELY STORIES IN YOUR BOOK WITH A SPLASH OF COLOR.

Reporter Read says, THAT'S SWEET. LET'S TALK IT THROUGH AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHER'S IDEAS.

Artist Clay says, DEAL. BLACK AND WHITE ARE VERY STRIKING. I THINK WE COULD INCORPORATE THEM.

Reporter Read says, MAYBE IT COULD BE OKAY TO TRY SOME BRIGHT PINK AND NEON GREEN.

Artist Clay says, OUR IDEAS ARE JUST SO VIBRANT.

Reporter Read says, WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT.

In the fire station, Firefighter Ember asks, CAN I BORROW THE VIBRANT PAINT PALETTE WHILE YOU WORK IT OUT?

Artist Clay says, OF COURSE YOU CAN.

Firefighter Ember says, YES!

Artist Clay, Reporter Read and Firefighter Ember say, THANKS, WORD DETECTIVES.

They end their calls.

[Beeping]

In his office, Sly says, IT FEELS GOOD TO BE BACK TO MY VIBRANT, LIVELY, AND EXCITING SELF. WOOHOO! NO MORE ROBOT VOICE.

In her office, Gabby says, AND I REMEMBER WHAT MADE MY STORY EXCITING BEFORE. UNDER THE LEAVES WAS... THE CUTEST PUPPY EVER!

Sly says, MYSTERY PUPPY? WHO DID THE PUPPY BELONG TO?

Gabby says, THAT'S THE BEST PART. BUCKLE UP, SLY. IT'S AN EXCITING RIDE.

[Upbeat music plays]

Voices sing, IT'S WORDSVILLE. YEAH. WOO. WITH GABBY. SLY. IT'S WORDSVILLE.
