A child says, WEE!

T.V.O. Kids and Sinking Ship Entertainment Original.

[Child giggles, upbeat music plays, pop]

Sly stands in front of his desk. He has short, curly black hair and wears an olive green jacket. Bright orange letters spell his name down the left side of his jacket.

[Upbeat music plays]

Sly says, DID A WORD THAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU GO MISSING?

Gabby stands beside her desk. Her long black hair is braided. She wears a black bowler hat, a blue-green cardigan, and a white blouse. On the left side of her cardigan, Gabby wears a name tag with her name in green.

Gabby says, AND NOW ALL YOU CAN FEEL, DO, OR THINK IS THE OPPOSITE OF THAT WORD?

Sly says, THEN CALL US! I'M SLY.

Gabby says, AND I'M GABBY. WE'RE WORD DETECTIVES, AND WE SOLVE...

Both say, WORD MYSTERIES!

Sly sits at his desk, a lime green laptop computer in front of him. On the top of the computer, a drawing of Sly holding a magnifying glass is displayed.

Sly says, TOGETHER, WE RUN THE WORDSVILLE ONLINE DETECTIVE AGENCY.

Gabby says, WE'LL FIND YOUR MISSING WORD, FAST.

Gabby sits at her desk behind a laptop computer. On the top of the computer, there is a drawing of a cat looking through a magnifying glass.

Sly says, NOT TO MENTION, BRISKLY.

Gabby says, AND SWIFTLY.

Sly says, YEAH, WE'RE REALLY GOOD WITH WORDS.

Children shout, WORDSVILLE!

Colourful letters spell Wordsville. A black magnifying glass lies over the letter 'W'. Text reads, Created by Christin Simms.

Gabby and Sly are on a video call.

[Upbeat music plays quietly]

Sly asks, GABBY, DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?

Sly excitedly holds up a picnic basket.

Gabby says, TIME FOR VET WILDER'S SUMMER POTLUCK PICNIC! I AM SO READY.

Gabby holds up a shovel and pail.

Sly says, IT'S A PERFECT DAY. THE SUN IS OUT, THE BIRDS ARE--BRR. WHY AM I FEELING COLD ALL OF A SUDDEN?

[Wind blowing]

Gabby says, I CAN FEEL IT, TOO. SLY! IT JUST STARTED SNOWING OUTSIDE OF MY WINDOW.

[Pail and shovel thudding]

Sly says, SNOW IN SUMMER? IT MAKES NO SENSE.

Baker Graham’s photograph appears. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Baker Graham calling.”

[Ringing]

Gabby says, IT'S BAKER GRAHAM CALLING. I HAVE A FEELING THIS IS A WORD MYSTERY.

Sly says, A VERY COLD ONE.

In the bakery, Baker Graham says, WORD DETECTIVES! MY SIGN IS GONE! THIS ONE!

A photograph shows a yellow sign next to a pie on a countertop. The sign reads, “Scorching!”

Sly asks, WHY DOES YOUR SIGN SAY "SCORCHING"?

Baker Graham says, I USE IT TO WARN PEOPLE WHEN HOT BAKED GOODS COME OUT OF THE OVEN. ALSO, I REALIZE YOU'RE NOT WEATHER DETECTIVES, BUT WHY IS IT SNOWING?

[Wind blowing]

A dictionary definition appears beside Gabby. Above the definition are a lowercase and uppercase letter “S,” a speaker icon, and text that reads, “Scorching. Adjective.” Gabby reads the definition aloud.

Gabby says, I HAVE A HUNCH WHY. SCORCHING DOESN'T MEAN HOT. IT MEANS EXTREMELY HOT.

Sly says, AND WITHOUT THE WORD "SCORCHING," WORDSVILLE HAS TURNED EXTREMELY COLD, FRIGID AND FROZEN.

Gabby says, IT'S DEFINITELY A WORD MYSTERY.

Sly says, TELL US EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED AND I'LL ANIMATE IT AND TRY TO STAY WARM.

Sly says, with shaking voice, RECAP TIME.

Sly makes a computer animation of Baker Graham in his bakery. Computer animations of Firefighter Ember and Animated Vet Wilder enter the bakery and stand in front of the counter. The computer-animated people have cut-out photographs of their heads on top of their animated bodies.

[Clicking]

Baker Graham narrates, I HAD JUST PUT MY SIGN NEXT TO THE SCORCHING APPLE PIE I BAKED FOR VET WILDER'S SUMMER POTLUCK PICNIC.

THAT'S WHEN FIREFIGHTER EMBER CAME BY TO GIVE ME A RIDE, BUT I WASN'T READY BECAUSE THE PIE TIN WAS WAY TOO HOT TO CARRY. THEN VET WILDER SHOWED UP ASKING IF WE WERE READY TO GO. HE DOESN'T LIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE ARE LATE.

THEY WERE BOTH IMPATIENT, SO I WENT TO LOOK FOR A BAG I COULD SAFELY CARRY THE SCORCHING PIE TIN. WHEN I CAME BACK, THEY WERE GONE, AND SO WAS MY SIGN.

[Dramatic music plays]

Sly’s animation ends. In reality, everyone shivers.

Gaby asks, BAKER GRAHAM, CAN YOU SHOW US THE SCENE OF THE MYSTERY?

Baker Graham says, OF COURSE. HERE'S WHERE I LAST SAW MY SCORCHING SIGN.

Baker Graham turns his device towards the countertop with the pie, a beach ball, and safety goggles.

Sly says, I'M SAVING THIS SCREENSHOT FOR OUR CASE NOTES.

[Camera shutter snapping]

Baker Graham says, AND I'M GONNA GO GRAB A SCARF.

Sly says, GOOD IDEA! WE'RE ON IT. BYE.

Baker Graham says, BYE.

Baker Graham ends his call. Gabby and Sly continues their video call.

[Beeping]

Gabby says, TIME TO START OUR CASE NOTES.

Sly says, BUT FIRST, WARMER CLOTHES.

Gabby nods. Both she and Sly leave their desks and walk away from their cameras.

[Upbeat music plays softly]

Gabby says, HURRY, SLY.

Gabby and Sly return. She wears a black scarf and matching mittens, and he wears an orange headband, matching scarf, and mittens.

Sly says, I'M COMING. BE RIGHT THERE. AH.

Gabby says, MUCH BETTER. NOW, BACK TO BUSINESS.

A heading reads, “Case Notes.” A subheading reads, “The Case of the Chilly Crowd.” A paintbrush, a camera and a text icon are under the headings.

[Typing]

Sly says, WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. SOMEONE TOOK BAKER GRAHAM'S SCORCHING SIGN.

Gabby says, AND NOW THE TOWN OF WORDSVILLE IS THE OPPOSITE OF SCORCHING.

Sly says, THE BAKERY IS WHERE IT HAPPENED.

Gabby says, WHEN BAKER GRAHAM WENT TO FIND A BAG TO CARRY THE SCORCHING HOT PIE.

The notes reads, “What: Someone took the scorching sign. Where: The Bakery. When: Baker Graham went to find a bag.”

Sly says, SO HE COULD TAKE THE PIE TO THE POTLUCK PICNIC WITH FIREFIGHTER EMBER AND VET WILDER.

Photographs of Firefighter Ember and Vet Wilder appear. Text reads, “Who, how, why.”

[Clicking]

Gabby says, THEY'RE OUR SUSPECTS. BUT WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHO DID IT, HOW AND WHY.

Sly says, LET'S LOOK AT THE CLUES.

The photograph of the countertop with the pie, beach ball, and safety goggles appears.

Gabby says, BEACH BALL AND THOSE LOOK LIKE FIREFIGHTER EMBER'S SAFETY GOGGLES.

LET'S CALL HER.

Firefighter Ember’s photograph appears. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Calling Firefighter Ember.”

[Ringing, gentle music plays softly]

In the fire station, Firefighter Ember says, WORD DETECTIVES. JUDGING BY YOUR WINTER OUTFITS, IT'S COLD THERE TOO.

Sly says, FREEZING! IT'S BECAUSE BAKER GRAHAM'S SCORCHING SIGN IS MISSING.

Gabby says, HE TOLD US YOU WERE AT THE BAKERY EARLIER TO PICK HIM UP.

Sly says, AND THAT YOU WERE IMPATIENT.

Firefighter Ember says, WELL, A BIT.BUT ONLY BECAUSE I WANTED TO GET TO THE PICNIC BEFORE A FIRE EMERGENCY CALLED ME AWAY.

Gabby asks, DOES THAT HAPPEN A LOT?

Firefighter Ember says, YES! I ALWAYS END UP HAVING TO LEAVE EARLY. I LIKE HELPING PEOPLE, BUT IT'S STILL HARD TO MISS OUT LIKE THAT TIME WHEN I MISSED SINGER MELODY'S SING-A-THON. OR ATHLETE GLORY'S MARATHON-A-THON.

A sketch of a fire engine appears over part Firefighter Ember’s photograph in the case notes.

[Pencil scratching]

Sly asks, DID YOU SEE THE SCORCHING SIGN?

Firefighter Ember says, I DID! BAKER GRAHAM DIDN'T WANT ME TO BURN MY HAND ON THE SCORCHING HOT APPLE PIE TIN. THAT'S WHEN VET WILDER ARRIVED ASKING IF WE WERE READY TO GO. NEXT THING I KNEW, BAKER GRAHAM RAN TO THE BACK AND I DIDN'T WANT TO UPSET VET WILDER BY BEING LATE SO I DECIDED TO GO.

Case notes read, “Impatient to get to the picnic before she got called away. Always has to leave early. Saw the scorching sign. Then Vet Wilder arrived.”

Gabby asks, HMM. DID YOU LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND?

Firefighter Ember says uneasily, NOTHING I WOULD NEED. TALK LATER!

Firefighter Ember ends the call.

[Beeping]

Gabby says, HMM. FIREFIGHTER EMBER DIDN'T WANT TO GET CALLED AWAY FROM THE POTLUCK PICNIC.

Sly asks, SO, DID SHE TAKE THE SIGN ON HER WAY OUT OR WAS IT VET WILDER?

Gabby says, LET'S GIVE HIM A CALL.

Vet Wilder’s photograph appears. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Calling Vet Wilder.”

[Ringing]

In his clinic, Vet Wilder knits a tiny blue-striped sweater.

Vet Wilder says, HELLO, WORD DETECTIVES.

Gabby asks, VET WILDER, ARE YOU KNITTING?

Vet Wilder says, YES. THE ANIMALS IN MY CLINIC ARE COLD SO I'M KNITTING TINY SWEATERS. THIS ONE'S FOR SAMMY THE SNAKE.

Gabby says, WE HEARD YOU WERE BEING IMPATIENT AT THE BAKERY.

Vet Wilder asks, CAN YOU BLAME ME? I DIDN'T WANT ANYONE TO BE LATE TO MY SUMMER POTLUCK PICNIC. I WAS READY TO PLAY BEACH BALL VOLLEYBALL.

Gabby says, I LOVE THAT GAME!

Vet Wilder says, ME TOO. NOT THAT IT MATTERS. I LEFT MY BEACH BALL SOMEWHERE, PLUS, IT GOT SO COLD OUT THAT I HAD TO POSTPONE MY PICNIC.

A sketch of Vet Wilder holding his beach ball appears on the case notes. Text reads, “Was impatient because he didn’t want anyone to be late. Wanted to play beach ball volleyball. But left beach ball somewhere.”

Sly asks, AND DID YOU HAPPEN TO SEE BAKER GRAHAM'S SCORCHING SIGN?

Vet Wilder says, YES, RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOT APPLE PIE. BAKER GRAHAM SAID IT WASN'T JUST HOT, IT WAS BLISTERING HOT. BEFORE I KNEW IT, BAKER GRAHAM WENT TO THE BACK TO GO LOOK FOR SOMETHING, AND THAT'S WHEN I LEFT.

New case notes read, “Saw the scorching sign. Baker Graham said the pie was blistering hot.”

Gabby asks, HOW COME?

Vet Wilder says, I COULDN'T BE LATE TO MY OWN PICNIC. ANYHOW, I SHOULD REALLY FINISH KNITTING THIS SWEATER. SAMMY IS A VERY LONG SNAKE.

Vet Wilder ends the call. Gabby and Sly continue their video call.

[Beeping]

Gabby says, SO, WE KNOW THAT VET WILDER SAW THE SIGN, AND HE LEFT BECAUSE BAKER GRAHAM WASN'T READY TO GO.

Sly asks, DID HE TAKE THE SCORCHING SIGN TO COOL THE PIE AND HURRY EVERYONE UP?

Gabby says, MAYBE. LET'S GO OVER THE CASE NOTES.

The last note beneath Firefighter Ember’s photograph reads, “Didn’t leave anything behind she would need.”

[Typing, upbeat music plays softly]

Gabby says, BOTH OUR SUSPECTS HAD A REASON TO TAKE THE SCORCHING SIGN.

Sly says, FIREFIGHTER EMBER COULD HAVE TAKEN THE SIGN TO MAKE THE PIE COOL DOWN MORE QUICKLY.

Gabby says, THAT WAY SHE COULD GO TO THE PICNIC BEFORE A FIRE EMERGENCY CALLED HER AWAY.

Sly says, BUT VET WILDER COULD HAVE TAKEN IT TOO.

Gabby says, TRUE. HE DIDN'T WANT BAKER GRAHAM TO BE LATE TO HIS POTLUCK PICNIC.

[Clicking]

Sly says, WE SHOULD LOOK AT THE CLUES AGAIN.

The photograph of the pie, beach ball, and safety goggles appears.

[Clicking]

Gabby says, THE BEACH BALL'S PROBABLY VET WILDER'S. HE SAID HE DOESN'T KNOW WHERE HE LEFT HIS.

Sly says, AND FIREFIGHTER EMBER LEFT HER SAFETY GOGGLES BEHIND.

Gabby says, SHE ALSO SAID SHE DIDN'T LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND SHE WOULD NEED.

[Clicking]

Sly says, AND SHE WOULDN'T NEED HER GOGGLES IF THERE WERE NOT FIRE EMERGENCIES.

Gabby says, WE JUST SOLVE IT, SLY. IT'S TIME TO REVEAL WHO DID IT, HOW, AND WHY.

Photographs of Gabby, Baker Graham, Sly, Firefighter Ember, and Vet Wilder appear. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Multiple people connecting to call.”

[Ringing]

In his office, Sly says, NOW PRESENTING THE WARM MYSTERY ANIMATED RE-ENACTMENT OF THE CASE OF THE CHILLY CROWD.

Sly makes a computer animation of Baker Graham in his bakery. Computer animations of Firefighter Ember and Animated Vet Wilder enter the bakery and stand in front of the counter. The computer-animated people have cut-out photographs of their heads on top of their animated bodies.

Sly, as Firefighter Ember, says, BAKER GRAHAM, WE NEED TO GET TO THE SUMMER POTLUCK PICNIC RIGHT AWAY.

Gabby, as Baker Graham, says, SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SCORCHING HOT APPLE PIE TO COOL.

Sly, as Vet Wilder, says, MY SUMMER POTLUCK PICNIC IS ABOUT TO START. YOU CAN'T BE LATE!

Gabby, as Baker Graham, says, LET ME SEE WHAT I CAN DO.

Sly, as Vet Wilder, says, I CAN'T ASK PEOPLE NOT TO BE LATE AND BE LATE MYSELF. I NEED TO GO!

Sly, as Firefighter Ember, says, IF BAKER GRAHAM DOESN'T HURRY, I'LL PROBABLY MISS THE PICNIC, TOO. UNLESS...

Firefighter Ember takes the scorching sign and leaves.

Sly’s animation ends.

[Dramatic music plays]

In her office, Gabby says, FIREFIGHTER EMBER'S WHO DID IT.

Sly says, SHE GRABBED THE SIGN WHEN SHE WAS ALONE IN THE BAKERY.

Gabby says, THAT'S HOW SHE DID IT.

In the bakery, Baker Graham asks, BUT WHY?

[Gentle music plays]

In the fire station, Firefighter Ember says, I REALLY WANTED TO GO TO THE PICNIC, AND I THOUGHT IF I TOOK THE WORD "SCORCHING," I COULD COOL DOWN THE PIE AND AVOID GETTING CALLED ON A SCORCHING HOT FIRE EMERGENCY.

In the clinic, Vet Wilder says, THAT DOES HAPPEN A LOT. WE'RE VERY THANKFUL FOR FIREFIGHTERS LIKE YOU.

Firefighter Ember says, BUT I RUINED YOUR PICNIC BY MAKING IT FREEZING COLD. AND EVEN THOUGH FIRE IS BAD WHEN IT GETS OUT OF CONTROL, WE NEED IT FOR COOKING AND COZY CAMPOUTS, SO I'M RETURNING THE SIGN EVEN IF IT MEANS I CAN'T STAY AT THE PICNIC.

Vet Wilder says, I HAVE AN IDEA THAT MIGHT HELP.

Photographs of Gabby, Baker Graham, Sly, Firefighter Ember, and Vet Wilder appear. Text above a green telephone receiver icon reads, “Multiple people connecting to call.”

[Ringing, upbeat music plays softly]

In the bakery, Baker Graham says, THANKS FOR RETURNING MY SCORCHING SIGN. I'M SORRY YOU GET CALLED AWAY FROM FUN EVENTS, FIREFIGHTER EMBER.

Vet Wilder says, AND THAT BRINGS ME TO MY IDEA. MY POTLUCK PICNIC IS NOW AN ALL-DAY EVENT, SO DROP IN WHENEVER YOU LIKE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'RE LATE OR IF YOU GET CALLED AWAY EARLY. THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT EVERYONE GETS A CHANCE TO COME.

Firefighter Ember says, THAT'S PERFECT! I'LL GET TO PARTY AND DO MY FIREFIGHTER DUTY.

Everyone says, THANKS, WORD DETECTIVES.

Firefighter Ember, Vet Wilder, and Baker Graham end the call. Sly and Gabby stay on their video call.

[Beeping]

Sly says, THE CASE OF THE CHILLY CROWD IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED.

Gabby says, PICNIC TIME!

Sly cheers, WOO!

[Upbeat music plays]

Voices sing, IT'S WORDSVILLE. YEAH. WOO. WITH GABBY. SLY. IT'S WORDSVILLE.
