Daniel dances in the set.
Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, a green TVO Kids T-shirt and a red hoodie.
Daniel says WELCOME BACK TO
TVOK NEWS.
NOW, OUR FEATURED STORY TODAY
IS BIG.
NO WAIT,
IT'S HUMONGOUS.
NO, IT'S GIANT!
AS IN GIANT PANDAS.
A picture of two pandas in the zoo appears on a screen behind him.
He says AND IF YOU HAVEN'T
MET THEM ALREADY,
YOU BETTER HURRY.
THE GIANT PANDAS ARE LEAVING THE
TORONTO ZOO ON MARCH THE 18TH.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK.
A clip rolls on the screen.
A caption reads "Gabe. Toronto Zoo."
Gabe is in his thirties, with short brown hair and a goatee. He wears glasses, a gray polo shirt, a black jacket and a beige zoo cap.
The clip shows the pandas on trees and eating bamboo leaves.
Gabe says HI, MY NAME IS GABE,
I WORK HERE AT THE TORONTO ZOO
WITH OUR GIANT PANDAS.
THE PANDAS WE HAVE AT THE ZOO
ARE AN INCREDIBLE BUNCH,
WE HAVE FOUR OF THEM.
A MALE,
WHOSE NAME IS DA MAO,
A FEMALE,
HER NAME IS ER SHUN,
AND ER SHUN'S TWO CUBS
THAT WERE BORN TOGETHER,
THEY'RE TWINS,
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO NOW.
THEY'RE JUST
INCREDIBLE ANIMALS,
THEY ARE BEARS,
BUT UNLIKE MOST OTHER BEARS,
THEY SPEND MOST OF THEIR TIME
EATING BAMBOO.
THAT'S THEIR FAVOURITE FOOD.
ALMOST THEIR ENTIRE DAY IS
SPENT EATING BAMBOO.
AND THEY'RE REALLY AMAZING
ANIMALS TO BE ABLE TO
PROCESS THAT STUFF, BECAUSE IT'S
BASICALLY LIKE WOOD.
IMAGINE IF YOU HAD TO
EAT A TREE ALL DAY,
AND THAT WAS YOUR
ONLY SNACK.
BUT THESE GUYS LOVE IT,
IT'S JUST THEIR FAVOURITE THING
IN THE WHOLE WORLD,
TO SPEND ALL DAY
MUNCHING AWAY ON WOOD,
THEY'RE INCREDIBLE.
AND IT'S REALLY INCREDIBLE TOO
THAT THESE GUYS,
EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE BEARS,
ARE FOR THE MOST PART
VERY EASY-GOING,
VERY RELAXED,
AND VERY FRIENDLY.
THEY GET ALONG VERY WELL WITH
OUR ZOOKEEPERS HERE AT THE ZOO,
AND THAT'S REALLY HELPED US
TO WORK WITH THEM
AND MAKE THEM
COMFORTABLE HERE.
A map shows the location of central China.
Gabe says GIANT PANDAS ARE FOUND
ONLY IN CHINA TODAY,
AND THEY LIVE IN THE CENTRAL
PART OF THE COUNTRY,
UP IN THE MOUNTAINS,
IN BIG FORESTED REGIONS
THAT MOSTLY HAVE BAMBOO
GROWING THERE.
BUT YOU'LL SEE
SOME PINE TREES,
THINGS LIKE YOU'LL SEE
IN CANADA HERE TOO.
AND THAT'S THE ONLY
PLACE IN THE WORLD
THAT YOU CAN FIND
THEM TODAY.
GIANT PANDAS DO NOT HIBERNATE
LIKE SOME OTHER BEARS,
LIKE THE BLACK BEAR
WE HAVE HERE IN CANADA.
INSTEAD,
THEY'LL BE AWAKE ALL WINTER.
JUST LIKE SOME OTHER ANIMALS
THAT CAN STAY AWAKE
THROUGH WINTER, THEY HAVE FOOD
AVAILABLE TO THEM.
SO, OTHER ANIMALS WILL HAVE TO
DIG THROUGH THE SNOW,
BUT A PANDA, THE BAMBOO GROWS
RIGHT OUT OF THE SNOW,
SO THEY CAN JUST WALK OVER
AND GRAB IT AND START EATING.
IT'S BEEN EXCITING TO HAVE
THE PANDAS HERE
FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS,
BUT THEY ARE LEAVING VERY SOON.
THE LAST DAY THAT WE'LL BE
ABLE TO SEE THEM,
THE GENERAL PUBLIC,
WILL BE MARCH 18TH,
AT THE END OF MARCH BREAK.
SO HURRY IN TO SEE THEM
BEFORE THEY GO.
The clip ends.
Back in the set, Daniel says WOW, I FOR ONE AM REALLY GOING
TO MISS THOSE GUYS.
AND WE WISH THE WHOLE PANDA
FAMILY SAFE TRAVELS
TO THEIR NEW HOME
AT THE CALGARY ZOO.
WELL THAT'S IT,
THAT'S ALL,
AND THAT'S YOUR NEWS.
I'M YOUR NEWS ANCHOR,
DANIEL,
AND THAT'S WHAT'S
HAPPENING.
