Daniel walks in the studio mimicking dinosa
rur oar.
Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, and burgundy and white TVO Kids hooded sweatshirt.
He says TVO KIDS,
WELCOME BACK TO
TVOK NEWS.
IT'S TIME FOR OUR FEATURE,
AND I PROBABLY SPOILED IT,
BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT DINOSAURS,
AND SO I KNOW YOU'RE
GOING TO LOVE IT.
TIME TO CHECK IN WITH DAVE,
OUR DINO EXPERT.
On a screen behind him, a clip shows Dave at a museum with the caption "Dave Evans."
Dave is in his late thirties, with short brown hair and a graying beard and wears glasses and a gray shirt.
He says HI, I'M DAVE EVANS,
I'M A PALEONTOLOGIST HERE
AT THE ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM.
I'M HERE TO GIVE YOU
A LITTLE DINO 101.
WHEN WAS THE AGE OF DINOSAURS?
WELL, DINOSAURS LIVED
DURING THE MESOZOIC ERA.
THIS WAS A TIME PERIOD BETWEEN
250 AND ABOUT 66
MILLION YEARS AGO.
AND IT'S BROKEN DOWN INTO
THREE DIFFERENT PERIODS,
THE TRIASSIC, JURASSIC,
AND CRETACEOUS.
THE TRIASSIC IS THE FIRST
50 MILLION YEARS
OF THE AGE OF DINOSAURS,
AND IT'S WHEN DINOSAURS
FIRST ORIGINATED,
AND THEY WERE STARTING
TO EVOLVE,
BUT THEY STILL SHARED THE WORLD
WITH A LOT OF COMPETITORS.
DINOSAURS GOT THEIR BIG BREAK AT
THE BEGINNING OF THE JURASSIC,
AFTER A MASS EXTINCTION
THAT WIPED OUT A LOT
OF THEIR COMPETITORS
AT THE END OF THE TRIASSIC,
AND THIS IS WHEN
THEY REALLY RADIATED
AND TOOK OVER THE WORLD.
AND THE JURASSIC IS KNOWN
AS THE AGE OF GIANTS.
IT'S WHEN THE LONG-NECKED
SAUROPODS,
LIKE BAROSAURUS
HERE AT THE ROM,
DOMINATED THE WORLD.
AFTER THE JURASSIC
IS THE CRETACEOUS,
AND THIS IS THE LAST PERIOD IN
THE AGE OF DINOSAURS,
AND IT'S WHEN SOME OF THE MOST
FAMOUS DINOSAURS,
LIKE T. REX,
AND TRICERATOPS LIVED.
66 MILLION YEARS AGO WAS
THE END OF THE MESOZOIC,
THAT'S WHEN AN ASTEROID HIT THE
EARTH AND WIPED OUT
ALL THE DINOSAURS
EXCEPT FOR THE BIRDS,
WHICH WENT ON TO LIVE THROUGH
THE ENTIRE CENOZOIC ERA,
THE AGE OF MAMMALS,
RIGHT TO TODAY.
Daniel says WHOA,
THANKS, DAVE.
I ALWAYS GOT CONFUSED
WITH ALL THE STAGES.
THE TRIASSIC,
JURASSIC, AND CRETACEOUS,
YOU TOTALLY BROKE IT
DOWN FOR ME.
THAT'S ALL FOR TODAY.
SEE YOU NEXT WEEK
FOR MORE
TVOK NEWS.
