Daniel dances in the studio.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, black sweatpants and a gray and blue TVO Kids hooded sweatshirt.

He says OH, YEAH,
TURN AROUND,
DO THE WAVE.
WELCOME BACK,
TVO KIDS.
JUST TRYING OUT SOME OF
MY OLD BREAKDANCING MOVES.
NOW, I'M NOT THAT GOOD,
AND CERTAINLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH
TO COMPETE AT THE OLYMPICS.

On a screen behind him appears the logo of the 2024 Paris Olympics with the caption "Olympic break."

Daniel says THAT'S RIGHT,
BREAKDANCING MAY BECOME A SPORT
AT THE PARIS OLYMPICS IN 2024,
JUST FIVE YEARS FROM NOW.
NOW, THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE
JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO,
AND THE INTERNATIONAL
OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
SAID THAT INCLUDING BREAKDANCING
IN THE COMPETITION
IS PART OF THE GOAL TO MAKE
THE OLYMPICS GENDER-BALANCED
AND MORE YOUTH-FOCUSED.
IN 2018,
BREAKDANCING WAS PART OF
THE YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
IN BUENOS AIRES,
MAKING CHAMPIONS OF DANCERS
FROM JAPAN AND RUSSIA.
NOW, BREAKDANCING HAS BEEN
AROUND FOR A LOT LONGER
THAN YOU MIGHT THINK.
IT ORIGINATED IN NEW YORK CITY
IN THE EARLY 1970'S,
IN THE LATE 70'S, IT DEVELOPED
INTO A WORLDWIDE PHENOMENON.
NOW, ORGANIZERS OF THE PARIS
OLYMPICS ARE RECOGNIZING
THE DANCERS' ACROBATIC ABILITY,
ATHLETICISM, AND INNOVATION.
ALONG WITH BREAKDANCING
IN 2024 OLYMPICS
WILL INCLUDE SURFING,
CLIMBING,
AND SKATEBOARDING.
I CAN'T WAIT.
STAY TUNED
FOR OUR FEATURE STORY,
COMING UP NEXT.
