[Magical music plays]
In an animation, the sun shines brightly over a field of dandelions. A guinea pig with long brown fur frolics through the grass. In live action, the guinea pig rests in their hutch, a large wooden cage on posts in the Sawdust family’s backyard. Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust stand by a gate in the fence, and Karen, a girl with her long brown hair in braided pigtails, runs up to the hutch with a kite.
[Guinea pig squeaking]

Facing Olga’s hutch, Noel, a black cat, lies on a small grassy hill with Graham, a small tortoise, and Fangio, a hedgehog. Mrs. Sawdust trims a bush. Mr. Sawdust builds a pen. Karen skips across the yard. Olga nibbles on a blade of grass beside Daisy, a black and white guinea pig. Noel swats at Olga from the roof of the hutch.
At the back door of the Sawdust’s house, Karen says, OLGA! DAISY! SNACKS!
Olga sings, MY HEAD IS FULL OF STORIES, OF DERRING-DO AND GLORIES, SO GATHER 'ROUND, AND LISTEN TO ME!

Title: Olga da Polga. Based on the books by Michael Bond.
[Gentle music plays]
In live action, in the present, a bee flutters around a white flower. The episode title reads, “Olga and the Snake.” The wind blows colourful squares of fabric hanging against the back fence. Olga stands by the clear door of the guinea pig hutch.
Olga narrates, I'VE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE THINGS SAWDUSTS USE AROUND THE GARDEN.
Mr. Sawdust loosens a yellow plant from its plastic pot with a garden trowel. He has short, dark grey hair and a thick, grey beard. He wears a red plaid button-down shirt over a blue T-shirt.
Olga narrates, THE TOOLS MR. SAWDUST USES TO PLANT FLOWERS, THE GLOVES MRS. SAWDUST WEARS FOR GARDENING, AND THE CAN KAREN USES TO WATER THE FLOWERS.
Mrs. Sawdust picks up a purple flower, wearing her gardening gloves. She has long, light brown hair and wears a light green, long-sleeved shirt and a white bucket hat. By the fence, Karen waters herbs with a watering can. Karen wears her long brown hair in braided pigtails and purple overalls over a pink, long-sleeved shirt with orange polka dots.
[Graham humming]
In his hutch, Graham lies on a pile of hay. Karen, Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust walk back to the house.
Olga narrates, BUT THERE WAS ONE DAY THEY BROUGHT OUT SOMETHING I'D NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
In the hutch, Olga scurries away from the door.
[Light, cheerful music plays]
Olga narrates, I'D BEEN SITTING IN MY HUTCH, WATCHING MR. SAWDUST ALL MORNING.
In a flashback, in the hutch, Olga nibbles on a blade of grass. Mrs. Sawdust walks through the open gate in the fence to the driveway.
Olga narrates, HE'D BEEN IN THE CAR FOR A LONG TIME AND HADN'T DRIVEN ANYWHERE.
In the car in the driveway, Mr. Sawdust sits in the driver’s seat and wipes down the dashboard. Mrs. Sawdust leans into the open passenger’s seat window.
She says, I'VE NEVER SEEN THE CAR LOOK SO CLEAN.
Mr. Sawdust says, WELL, THAT'S THE INSIDE, DONE. JUST THE OUTSIDE TO DO, THE FUN BIT.
Mrs. Sawdust asks, WHEN WILL YOU BE FINISHED? LUNCH WILL BE READY SOON.
Mr. Sawdust says, WELL, IF I CAN GET A LITTLE HELPER AND MAYBE THE HOSE, I CAN BE DONE IN NO TIME.
Mrs. Sawdust says, I THINK I MIGHT KNOW JUST THE PERSON.
She smiles and leaves.
[Gentle music plays]
In the backyard, a bird flies away from a birdhouse on the back fence. In the hutch, Olga stands by the door.
Olga narrates, AND BEFORE I KNEW IT, KAREN AND MR. SAWDUST WERE GIVING THE CAR A BATH.
In the driveway, Karen washes the car with a soapy sponge. Mr. Sawdust appears beside her with soap on his head and beard.
Mr. Sawdust asks, HOW DO I LOOK?
[Karen giggling]
Mr. Sawdust says, HELLO!
[Mr. Sawdust laughing]
Mr. Sawdust says, COME HERE. WATCH THIS.
He points to his soap beard and tries to blow away the bubbles. Bubbles drip off his beard.
[Mr. Sawdust laughing]
Karen says, OH, IT IS ON!
Mr. Sawdust blows bubbles off his hand.
He says, IT'S SNOWING!
Karen throws a handful of bubbles at Mr. Sawdust.
Mr. Sawdust says, OH, YOU. IT'S GONNA BE LIKE THAT, IS IT? OH, WE'RE GONNA GET IN TROUBLE.
He blows bubbles at Karen.
[Karen squealing]
[Mr. Sawdust laughing]
Mr. Sawdust holds up his hands, which are full of bubbles.
He says, says, NO MORE, NO MORE! I SURRENDER.
He looks at his hands and shakes off the bubbles.
Mr. Sawdust says, OH, I THINK IT'S TIME WE RINSE THESE BUBBLES AWAY.
He wipes bubbles off his face.
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Mr. Sawdust says, WHOO.
He walks by Karen, who scrubs the car hood with a soapy sponge. In the backyard, Mr. Sawdust walks around the side of the house and grabs a garden hose. Halfway across the yard, he is jerked backward.
Mr. Sawdust stumbles and says, OH, IT'S STUCK?
He pulls on the hose.
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Mr. Sawdust calls out, KAREN, HELP! IT'S A SLIPPERY SNAKE!
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Karen runs into the backyard. Mr. Sawdust pulls on the hose and holds it over his head.
[Mr. Sawdust hissing like a snake]
Karen groans, DAD!
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Olga watches Mr. Sawdust from her hutch.
She narrates, WELL, I WAS SHOCKED. A SNAKE!
[Mr. Sawdust laughing]
Mr. Sawdust pulls on the hose.
He says, DON'T WORRY. IT'S NOT DANGEROUS. IT'S JUST REALLY WRIGGLY.
Karen grabs the hose.
[Mrs. Sawdust clearing her throat]
Mrs. Sawdust steps up to the railing on the back door stairs.
She asks, WHAT ARE YOU TWO UP TO?
Karen and Mr. Sawdust stop wrestling with the hose. In the hutch, Olga and Daisy’s noses twitch.
Mrs. Sawdust says, COME ON. LUNCH IS READY.
[Mr. Sawdust chuckling]
Mr. Sawdust crouches and says, WHY DON'T WE GO GET LUNCH? THEN WE'LL COME BACK AND TACKLE THIS SNAKE LATER. WHAT DO YOU SAY?
Karen says, OKAY.
She turns toward the hutch and waves.
Karen says, BYE, OLGA. BYE, DAISY!
She runs toward the door. Mr. Sawdust drops the hose on the grass and follows.
Olga narrates, THERE WAS A SNAKE IN OUR GARDEN. I HAD TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT.
Graham climbs up the grassy hill in front of the hutch. In the hutch bedroom, Daisy crawls over a pile of hay.
On the stone half-wall, Noel says, HM.
He jumps off. Fangio sniffs around potted plants.
[Fangio sniffing]
Fangio joins Noel and Graham on the hill.
Olga asks, DID YOU KNOW THERE'S A SNAKE IN THE GRASS?
Noel says, DON'T BE RIDICULOUS.
Graham says, OH? I'VE NEVER SEEN A SNAKE BEFORE. WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?
Olga says, WELL, SEE FOR YOURSELF, GRAHAM. IT'S LYING CURLED UP OVER THERE.
She raises her snout toward the garden house.
[Dramatic music plays]
Noel says, THAT'S NOT A SNAKE.
Olga says, IT IS.
Daisy asks, HOW DO YOU KNOW?
Olga says, WELL, UH, BECAUSE OF MY COUSIN, OF COURSE.
[Intense music plays]
Olga says, ANNA BONES, THE FAMOUS GUINEA PIG, UM, ARCHAEOLOGIST.
[Noel sighing]
Noel says, ARCHAEOLOGISTS ARE PEOPLE WHO DIG UP OLD THINGS. THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SNAKES.
Olga says, WELL, ACTUALLY, NOEL, THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE WRONG.
In an animated story, a guinea pig archeologist carries tools in a satchel and holds a rolled-up map.
Olga narrates ANNA WAS THE BEST ARCHAEOLOGIST THERE EVER WAS, AND SHE TRAVELLED ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Anna, the guinea pig archeologist, checks her map and enters a tomb in a mountain.
Olga narrates, UNTIL ONE DAY, WHILE DIGGING IN AN ANCIENT TOMB, THE EARTH BEGAN TO SHAKE.
Underground, Anna hammers at a rock wall and uncovers a dandelion design.
[Hammer clanking]
[Rumbling]
Rocks fall around Anna.
Olga narrates, SHE NEEDED TO GET OUT FAST.
Part of the ground behind Anna falls apart.
Olga narrates, AND THAT WAS WHEN SOME FRIENDLY SNAKES DROPPED DOWN FROM THE CEILING AND HELPED ANNA ACROSS.
Three snakes drop down from above and smile at Anna. A yellow snake with brown spots bends into the shape of stairs and Anna walks up them. She slides down a snake with dark blue and light blue stripes.
Olga narrates, AFTER THAT, THEY BECAME THE BEST OF FRIENDS.
Anna swings through the tomb with a green snake with dark green spots.
Olga narrates, IN FACT, THE SNAKES BECAME PART OF THE TEAM.
The snakes wrap around each other to form a ladder. Anna climbs up the snake to the tomb entrance on ground level. In the tomb, the three snakes work with Anna. They dust off pots and move statues.
Olga narrates, AND TO THIS DAY, SHE STILL SENDS ME POSTCARDS OF THEM TRAVELING THE WORLD TOGETHER.
A picture shows Anna and the snakes hanging from the tomb's ceiling. The story ends.
In the live-action flashback, Olga says, SO THAT'S HOW I KNOW THAT IS DEFINITELY A SNAKE.
Graham says, AMAZING.
Noel says, I DON'T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT, IT'S NOT EVEN MOVING.
Olga says, WELL, THAT'S BECAUSE SNAKES LIKE TO SLEEP LOTS. LIKE DAISY AND GRAHAM.
Olga glances toward Daisy.
[Daisy yawning]
Daisy says, I LIKE SLEEPING.
She rests her head in the hay.
Olga says, IT WILL WAKE UP SOON.
Noel says, HM.
Olga says, JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE.
The wind blows the colourful fabric squares hanging against the fence.
Olga narrates, WELL, I WAS GOING TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THIS SNAKE JUST TO BE SURE.
[Gentle music plays]
In a tree, a bird walks across a branch. In the hutch, Olga nibbles on a blade of grass.
Olga narrates, BUT THAT AFTERNOON, IT STILL HADN'T MOVED.
The garden hose remains on the grass in the middle of the yard. Olga stands against the metal grate wall of the hutch.
Olga says, YOO-HOO! HELLO, SNAKE. WOULD YOU CARE FOR A DANDELION LEAF?
Elsewhere in the yard, Fangio wanders alongside a raised garden bed.
[Fangio sniffing]
[Fangio humming]
Olga says, AH, THERE'S FANGIO. MAYBE HE'LL BE ABLE TO HELP.
She walks over to the door of the hutch.
Olga calls out, FANGIO! FANGIO!
Fangio stands on the grassy hill.
He says, HELLO, OLGA. DAISY.
Olga asks, COULD YOU POSSIBLY GET THAT SNAKE'S ATTENTION?
Fangio says, SNAKE?
Olga says, YES. IT'S RIGHT THERE. BESIDE YOU.
Fangio says, BESIDE ME?
He turns around.
Olga says, IN THE GRASS.
Fangio yelps, EEK! GOT TO GO! SNAKES!
He quickly leaves.
Olga narrates, REALLY, THIS WAS NOT GOING WELL AT ALL.
On the hill, Noel flicks his tail.
He says, I SEE THE SNAKE IS STILL ASLEEP, OLGA.
[Noel chuckling]
Olga nibbles on some grass.
She narrates, AND NOEL WAS ENJOYING IT FAR TOO MUCH. HMPH.
[Light, cheerful music plays]
At the bottom of the grassy hill, Noel scratches his ear with his back paw. Graham saunters down the ramp of his hutch.
[Graham singing]
In the middle of the yard, Karen leans on the large guinea pig pen. Mr. Sawdust kneels beside her. In the pen, Daisy stands in the shade by a wooden hideout. Olga steps into the sun and nibbles on a dandelion leaf.
Karen says, NOW YOU CAN ENJOY SOME TIME IN THE GRASS WITH THE NICE WEATHER.
Mr. Sawdust puts a guinea pig water bottle on the pen.
[Mr. Sawdust sighing]
Mr. Sawdust says, COME ON, LET'S GO FINISH CLEANING THE CAR.
Karen runs and grabs the garden hose off the grass nearby.
Olga narrates, THE SNAKE WAS MOVING.
[Olga squeaking]
Karen frowns and furrows her brow.
Mr. Sawdust asks, WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH OLGA?
[Olga squeaking]
Olga frantically looks around the pen.
Karen asks, ARE YOU OKAY?
Olga narrates, NOW KAREN WAS HOLDING THE SNAKE.
[Mr. Sawdust gasping]
Mr. Sawdust says, MAYBE IT'S THE HOSE. SHE HASN'T SEEN THAT ONE BEFORE.
Olga narrates, A HOSE? WHAT WAS A HOSE?
Mr. Sawdust says, SHE MIGHT THINK IT'S A SLIPPERY SNAKE, TOO.
Karen says, SORRY, OLGA. WE DON'T USE IT OFTEN. JUST TO WASH THE CAR WITH.
Olga runs to a corner of the pen.
Karen says, SEE? WATER COMES OUT OF THIS END.
She points to the end of the hose.
[Olga gasping]
Olga narrates, I DID SEE. ALL TOO WELL.
Mr. Sawdust says, COME ON.
He stands and walks toward the side of the house. Karen pulls the hose toward the driveway.
Olga narrates, IT WASN'T A SNAKE, AND NOEL WOULD NEVER LET ME FORGET IT.
Behind the park bench, Noel lies on the stone half-wall.
Noel says, HM.
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
The sun shines brightly on light pink flowers in a tree. In the backyard, Fangio crawls under a firewood storage shelf.
[Fangio singing]
Later, in the pen, Olga walks around in the shade. Graham lies outside the pen.
Graham asks, HAS THE SNAKE WOKEN UP YET, OLGA?
Olga says, THE THING IS, GRAHAM, I DID SOME INVESTIGATING, AND IT'S NOT ACTUALLY A SNAKE. IT JUST LOOKS VERY LIKE ONE.
Graham says, OH, THAT'S A SHAME. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING FRIENDS.
From close by, Noel says, ARE YOU STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS SO-CALLED SNAKE?
He lies down on the grass near the house.
Olga says, WELL, ABOUT THAT, NOEL. THE THING IS...
On the other side of the house, Mr. Sawdust turns on the hose.
[Hose squeaking]
The hose fills with water.
[Anticipatory music plays]
Water sprays out of the nozzle on the end of the house.
[Karen laughing]
Karen sprays Mr. Sawdust with water.
[Mr. Sawdust laughing]
Olga eats a mouthful of grass. In the hideout, Daisy turns toward Olga.
[Karen and Mr. Sawdust laughing]
Mr. Sawdust grabs the hose and sprays Karen with water. Water splashes against a window near Noel.
[Noel yowling]
Noel runs away. Mr. Sawdust wrestles with the hose as if it were a snake. Karen helps hold it steady, and he closes the nozzle.
Mr. Sawdust sighs, OH.
Karen wipes her hands on her now-wet overalls.
Mr. Sawdust says, OH, WE GOT A GOOD SOAKING THERE.
Olga narrates, AND NOEL GOT A SHOCK, TOO.
Mrs. Sawdust says, WHAT ON EARTH'S GOING ON?
She stands on the stairs at the back door.
Mrs. Sawdust says, YOU'RE SOAKED.
Mr. Sawdust says, IT'S NOTHING. WE'RE JUST FINISHING WASHING THE CAR.
Karen says, YEAH.
Mrs. Sawdust says, WELL, DON'T WASTE THE WATER.
Karen and Mr. Sawdust share a look. They both grip the hose and spray Mrs. Sawdust with water.
[Mrs. Sawdust laughing]
Mrs. Sawdust says, YOU TWO!
[Mr. Sawdust and Karen laughing]
Mrs. Sawdust wipes her face, and her mascara runs. She shakes her head.
Mrs. Sawdust says, WHAT'RE YOU LIKE?
She smiles and wipes under her eyes.
[Gentle music plays]
On the back fence, a bird flies out of the birdhouse. In his hutch, Graham lies on a pile of hay.
[Graham singing]
Noel walks up the grassy hill toward the guinea pig hutch.
Olga narrates, LATER THAT DAY, NOEL FINALLY REAPPEARED.
In the hutch, Olga nibbles on blades of grass. Noel looks behind him and flicks his tail.
Noel asks, UH, HAS THE SNAKE GONE?
Olga says, UH... WELL, YES, IT HAS. IT'S BEEN PUT AWAY.
Noel says, GOOD.
Olga narrates, OF COURSE, I'D TELL NOEL THE TRUTH LATER. IT WASN'T A SNAKE. JUST A GARDEN HOSE.
Olga walks across the hutch, and Noel leaves.
[Gentle music continues]
The sun shines brightly over a flower in the backyard, and light wind blows the fabric squares by the fence.
Olga narrates, NOW I KNOW EVERY TIME THE SAWDUSTS ARE WASHING THE CAR, THEY'LL BRING OUT THE HOSE, OR SHOULD I SAY THE WATER SNAKE?
In the present day, Mr. and Mrs. Sawdust return to the house with Karen. Olga runs over to her food dish.
[Olga chuckling]

[Playful music plays]
