Novella

Novella is an 11-year-old girl who moved from Ethiopia with her family, to North York, Ontario. She is creative, curious, loves going to school and she wants to be a mathematician when she grows up. Novella is proud of her Karata awards for her Kata – a Japanese word for form. She shows off dresses that are special to her family, from Ethiopian culture, then takes us on a ride to Lalibela, her favourite restaurant for Fir-fir, a dish normally enjoyed at breakfast, but Novella loves it anytime of the day. And she especially loves Ethiopian New Year, or Enkutatash. which is celebrated in September! She delights in the food and as well as the traditions of singing house-to-house and dancing around a bonfire called a chibo. After Novella shows us the ancient art of Nikisat, she is surprised by a special message from someone who ‘thinks’ just like her!
