[Child giggles, upbeat music plays, pop]
Eight-year-old Ella, who has curly black hair, runs down a staircase carrying a toy rocket ship. She wears a blue-green space suit and a helmet with animal ears.
[Children laugh, rock music plays]
Ella enters a living room and gives her little sister, Tilly, the rocket ship.
A singer sings, COME WITH ME TO THE STARS
THE GALAXY IS OURS!
Ella’s mom picks up Tilly and smiles as Ella runs outside. Outside the house, in outer space, Ella runs past her dad.
Children say, LET'S GO!
Singers sing, LOOK AT ALL THE WONDER,
INTER-STELLAR.
Ella flies her moon scooter over a planet with Madhu, a blue and green alien, and Slippy, a black-haired boy who flies a red space racer.
[Glitch whirrs]
Singers sing, LOOK UP SO MUCH SPLENDOUR,
INTER-STELLAR.
[Background shouting]
Singers sing, LOOK OUT FOR ADVENTURE
COME EXPLORE THE MILKY WAY!
Ella and Slippy explore a planet together with Maggie, a blue star. Elsewhere in space, Slippy and Madhu look startled.
They say, WOAH!
They dodge Ella and her moon scooter.
The singer sings, COME EXPLORE THE MILKY WAY!
Ella and her family sit on a spacecraft.
The singer sings, LOOK UP!
INTERSTELLAR ELLA.
Text reads, “TVO Kids presents Interstellar Ella.”
[Rock music plays]
Ella, Madhu, and Slippy dance. An image on a screen shows Ella and Slippy dancing in Madhu’s arms and dancing in front of a line of faceless figures.
[Happy vocalizations, singing, laughing]
Ella says, I LOVE THIS GAME.
Madhu says, ME TOO!
Maggie says, PLEASE CARRY THAT ENTHUSIASM
INTO THE MEGA POINTS ROUND.
READY? GO!
[Rock music continues, singing]
Ella, Slippy, and Madhu end their dance with a pose. Madhu loses their balance and falls on the others.
Maggie says, GOOD PRACTICE, EVERYONE.
Maggie turns into clapping hands.
[Applause]
Glitch says, BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
Glitch waves a red flag and a light blue flag.
[Whirring, laughter]
Ella says, THAT WAS FUN.
I THINK WE'RE READY TO PLAY
SATURN DANCE WITH PRIYA.
Priya appears in a com-bubble.
[Gentle music plays]
Priya says, ACHOO!
Ella says, PRIYA,
YOU HAVEN'T LEFT EARTH YET?
[Priya sneezes, beeping]
Priya says, I CAN'T MAKE IT TODAY.
I'M SICK.
Ella says, WHAT? NO.
YOU CAN'T BE SICK TODAY.
YOU LOVE MUSIC AND SPACE.
Priya says, I KNOW.
I REALLY WANTED TO DANCE
WITH YOU.
BUT WE'LL DO IT ANOTHER TIME.
OKAY?
Ella says, OKAY.
Slippy says, FEEL BETTER.
Madhu says, BYE FRIEND!
The com-bubble pops.
[Zapping]
Ella asks, WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
PLAYING SATURN DANCE WAS PRIYA'S IDEA.
Madhu says, IT FEELS WEIRD TO DANCE
WITHOUT HER. I WISH
THERE WAS SOMETHING WE COULD DO
TO MAKE HER FEEL BETTER.
[Madhu creaks, Ella’s footsteps rustle]
Ella asks, WHAT IF WE MAKE HER
A GET WELL SOON GIFT?
BUT WHAT?
[Glitch whirrs, beeps rhythmically]
Glitch taps one of his feet.
Ella says, THAT'S IT.
WE'LL PRIYA A SONG.
Slippy says, AND WE CAN
SHOW HER OUR DANCE ROUTINE.
ASTRONOMICAL IDEA, GLITCH!
[Glitch beeps, whirrs]
Madhu says, OH, AND OUR SONG'S
MUSIC CAN BE MADE
OF THE SOUNDS OF THE GALAXY.
Ella repeats, THE SOUNDS OF THE GALAXY?
[Madhu gasps]
Madhu asks, YOU DON'T HEAR THEM?
Slippy says, I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING.
[Madhu creaks]
Madhu says, IT GOES LIKE, WOO HOO!
I CALL IT THE ISABEL SYMPHONY
BECAUSE SOMETIMES THERE
IS A DING LIKE A BELL.
Maggie says, MADHU IS CORRECT.
[Whirring, gentle music plays]
Maggie says, THE GALAXY
MAKES MANY DIFFERENT SOUNDS,
BUT HUMAN EARS CANNOT HEAR
THE COSMIC SOUND WAVES.
Ella asks, COULD WE MAKE SOMETHING
THAT CHANGES
THE COSMIC WAVES INTO SOUNDS
WE CAN HEAR?
Maggie says, YES, THAT COULD WORK.
Ella says, INTERSTELLAR! SPACE MUSIC
WILL TOTALLY CHEER PRIYA UP.
Madhu says, I CAN GUIDE YOU TO THE COOLEST
SOUND PLACES IN THE GALAXY.
[Glitch beeps, whirrs]
Glitch gives Madhu a red flag and an orange visor.
Madhu says, WELCOME, FRIENDS,
TO THE ISABEL SYMPHONY TOUR.
I'LL BE YOUR GUIDE FOR TODAY.
BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY
QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK MAGGIE.
Madhu takes off. Ella follows them in her moon scooter, and Slippy flies in his space racer.
[Ella and Slippy laugh, upbeat music plays]
Madhu says, OUR FIRST STOP IS A NEBULA.
IT SOUNDS LIKE A SURPRISED GHOST
YELLING INTO A METAL CAN.
Ella says, I HAVE NO IDEA
WHAT THAT SOUNDS LIKE.
SLIPPY, HAVE YOU FINISHED
BUILDING YOUR INVENTION?
Slippy says, SURE HAVE, TADA!.
Slippy holds a metal box.
[Rattling]
Ella says, YOU INVENTED A LUNCH BOX?
Madhu says, OH! A BOX TO PUT YOUR LUNCH IN.
GENIUS!
[Madhu creaks]
Slippy pushes a button on the box, and a small satellite dish extends.
[Click, beeping]
Slippy explains, IT'S A RADIO RECEIVER.
IF WE POINT IT AT SOMETHING
IN SPACE, WE'LL BE ABLE TO HEAR
THE SOUND. RIGHT, MAGGIE?
Maggie says, CORRECT.
Maggie projects an image of a pink electromagnetic wave moving from the nebula to the receiver dish and an image of the dish transmitting pink sound waves to a human ear.
[Beeping]
Maggie says, THIS DISH TAKES
THE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES
COMING FROM THE NEBULA
AND TRANSFORMS
THEM INTO SOUND WAVES
THAT HUMANS CAN HEAR.
Madhu says, YAY! READY TO HEAR THE SURPRISE
GHOST YELLING INTO A METAL CAN?
Ella says, YEP, SURE AM.
[Buzzing, high-pitched hum]
Ella says, ASTRONOMICAL.
Slippy says, THIS IS SO COOL, MADHU.
Madhu says, YEAH!
Ella asks, MAGGIE, CAN YOU RECORD A
SAMPLE TO USE FOR OUR SONG?
Maggie says, DONE.
Madhu says, I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU
TO HEAR THE OTHER PLACES.
COME ON, FRIENDS.
Ella points the receiver into space.
[Rhythmic thumping]
Slippy says, COME ON ELLA.
Ella says, COMING.
Madhu, Ella, and Slippy arrive at Jupiter.
[Rattling]
Madhu says, THIS IS THE SOUND
OF GAS GIANT JUPITER.
COOL, RIGHT?
Ella and Slippy say, WOW!
[Whirring]
Maggie says, SOUND RECORDED.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ella and Slippy say, WOW!
Maggie says, YOU ARE HEARING
THE SOUND OF A MARS QUAKE.
[Whirring]
Maggie says, SOUND RECORDED.
An asteroid flies past Ella, Madhu, and Slippy.
[Whooshing]
Everyone says, WHOA!
[Whirring]
Maggie says, SOUND RECORDED.
Madhu says, THIS IS THE MAJESTIC
SOUND OF A SOLAR STORM.
[Whirring, explosion]
Maggie says, SOUND RECORDED.
Slippy says, LET'S GET OUT OF HERE.
They fly away from the solar storm.
[Shouting]
Maggie says, LAST BUT NOT LEAST,
IS THE...
Madhu says, ...BOBBLY BLURPING
I LOVE THIS ONE.
Maggie says, THE SOUND YOU'RE HEARING...
Ella asks, THE BOBBLY BLURPING?
Maggie says, THE BOBBLY BLURPING
BEING IS MADE BY EARTH'S
MAGNETIC FIELD.
Ella says, AWESOME.
[Bubbling, Madhu hums, whirring]
Maggie says, SOUND RECORDED.
At the clubhouse, Madhu says,
I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER HEARD
SO MUCH SPACE IN ONE DAY.
Slippy says, I DEFINITELY HAVEN'T.
THANKS FOR SHOWING US
AROUND, MADHU.
Ella says, YEAH, YOU'RE THE BEST GUIDE.
AND NOW LET'S MIX IT UP
SO WE CAN DANCE TO IT.
OKAY, EVERYONE READY?
Ella touches the screen on a tablet.
[Chiming, cosmic sounds]
Madhu says, WHOO!
THAT SOUNDS
JUST LIKE THE ISABEL SYMPHONY.
Slippy says, YEAH, BUT
IT'S PRETTY HARD TO DANCE TO.
[Glitch beeps, whirrs, tense music plays]
Ella says, I THINK SOMETHING'S MISSING.
[Glitch beeps rhythmically]
Slippy says, A BEAT.
THE SONG NEEDS DRUMS SO
WE CAN FOLLOW ALONG LIKE THIS.
ONE, TWO. THREE, FOUR.
Ella says, DRUMS ARE A GREAT IDEA.
AND I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE
TO FIND THEM.
WHEN WE WERE LOOKING FOR SOUNDS
BEFORE I HEARD SOMETHING LIKE A BEAT.
IT WAS FAINT, BUT I THINK IT WAS
COMING FROM OVER HERE.
Ella lifts the receiver. Ella, Slippy, and Madhu fly towards a pulsar.
[Drumming]
Slippy says, ASTRONOMICAL.
A PULSAR MAKES A DRUMMING SOUND.
Madhu says, I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO ADD
THIS STOP TO THE TOUR. WHAT A COOL BEAT.
Maggie says, PULSARS MIGHT CARRY A BEAT,
BUT THOSE BEAMS ARE MADE OF
POWERFUL GAMMA RAYS AND SPIN
AT LEAST THREE TIMES PER SECOND.
WE ARE STILL TOO FAR
FROM THE PULSAR TO RECORD IT.
YOU MUST STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE.
Slippy says, WHAT IF WE PLACE A RECORDER
NEAR THE BEAM AND THEN LEAVE?
Ella lets go of the receiver, and it floats towards the pulsar beam.
[Whooshing]
Maggie says, SOUND RECORDED.
Ella asks, CAN YOU UPLOAD THIS ON
SLIPPY’S TABLET PLEASE.
[Fuzzy recording plays]
Ella says, WE NEED A BETTER SOUND.
Ella flies her moon scooter closer to the pulsar and grabs the receiver.
[Tense music plays]
Ella says, I HAVE TO GET CLOSER FOR PRIYA.
[Whooshing]
Ella says, I CAN DO THIS.
Maggie says, ELLA, WATCH OUT.
Ella spins away from the beam and leaves the receiver floating.
Ella asks, CAN YOU RECORD IT, MAGGIE?
Maggie says, NO. THE SIGNAL IS NOT CLEAR
ENOUGH.
Slippy shouts, ELLA, WATCH OUT.
Slippy uses his space-grabber to grab Ella’s moon scooter. He pulls her away from the receiver and rotating beam.
[Whoosh]
Ella says, NO THE RECORDER!
The beam cuts the receiver into pieces.
Ella says, OH, NO.
Back at the clubhouse, Slippy says,
AT LEAST WE STILL HAVE
THE FIRST STUFF WE RECORDED
IS PRETTY COOL.
Ella says, YEAH, BUT
HOW WE SUPPOSED TO DANCE TO IT?
THERE'S STILL NO BEAT.
Madhu says, LET'S KEEP LISTENING.
THE GALAXY'S ISABEL
SYMPHONY IS STILL BEAUTIFUL.
OH, I DO HEAR A BEAT.
Ella says, I HEAR IT, TOO.
Glitch dances and hits his front compartment.
[Rhythmic beeping, tapping]
Slippy says, GLITCH.
GREAT IDEA.
WE COULD ADD THE BEAT OURSELVES.
Ella says, I GUESS IT'S STILL SPACE SOUND,
WE'RE MAKING IT,
AND WE'RE IN SPACE.
Glitch dances and hits his front compartment.
[Rhythmic beeping, tapping]
Ella stands on the dance floor, holding the tablet. Glitch plays a beat on a drum set. Slippy drums on a metal barrel.
[Drums bang, Madhu beat boxes]
Ella asks, EVERYONE READY?
I'LL CALL PRIYA.
Priya appears in a com-bubble.
[Beep, gentle music plays]
Priya says, HEY, ELLA.
WHAT'S ALL THIS?
Ella says, WE WANTED
TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT
NOT BEING ABLE TO COME TODAY.
SO WE THOUGHT OF A GIFT. HIT IT.
[Rock music plays, Madhu beat boxes]
Slippy asks, NOW, WHO'S READY
TO SATURN DANCE?
Ella cheers, ME!
[Madhu cheers]
Ella, Madhu, and Slippy dance.
In the com-bubble, Priya says, THIS IS SO SWEET AND COOL.
Ella says, I'M GLAD YOU LIKE IT.
In the com-bubble, Priya says, MORE LIKE LOVE IT.
NEXT TIME I COME TO SPACE,
WE NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER SONG
TO DO THE SATURN DANCE TO.
[Ella giggles]
Ella says, YEAH,
WE COULD START OUR OWN BAND.
Slippy says, HMM. WHAT SHOULD
OUR BAND NAME BE?
ANY IDEAS, MADHU?
Madhu says, OH, I MIGHT HAVE ONE.
WHAT ABOUT...
Ella, Slippy, and Madhu say, THE ISABEL SYMPHONY?
In the com-bubble, Priya says, THAT'S
AN INTERSTELLAR NAME.
[Everyone laughs, rock music continues]
[Rock music plays]
