Birds gather in a forest.
Odo the owl says,
HERE I COME!
(Bush rustles)
Odo, a small brown owl with white markings, runs past a blue bird, chickens, a peacock, and yellow birds.
Odo sings, ODO
Birds sing,
ODO, ODO, ODO
(Cluck)
Odo jumps into a muddy puddle with two toucans.
(Splash)
Odo leaps on a fallen tree trunk with Doodle, a small blue bird. Flamingos pop their heads out of the trunk.
Birds sing,
ODO, ODO, ODO
Odo jumps on a tree stump. The birds surround him.
The title reads, “Odo”.
Odo winks.
A blue and orange bird lands on a tree stump in a forest clearing.
Text reads, “The Deputy”.
(Campers grunting)
Flamingos, chickens, and geese exercise on the grass.
(Clucking)
Odo does push-ups on a small log.
Doodle counts,
EIGHT, NINE.
KEEP GOING, ODO!
(Grunting)
Odo falls on the log.
He asks,
DID I BREAK MY RECORD?
Doodle answers, NEARLY!
A bald eagle with a green cap and an orange scarf around her neck steps onto a tree stump. The other birds turn to her.
(Clearing throat)
The eagle says,
LISTEN UP, CAMPERS,
INSPECTOR FEATHERS IS ARRIVING
SHORTLY FOR A VERY IMPORTANT
MEETING, AND MAYBE A NICE CUP OF
TEA.
I SHALL BE BUSY FOR A LITTLE
WHILE, AND WILL THEREFORE BE
APPOINTING A DEPUTY.
(Campers gasping, chattering)
Odo asks, EM, WHAT'S A DEPUTY?
The eagle answers,
A GOOD QUESTION, YOUNG ODO.
THE DEPUTY WILL BE MY ASSISTANT.
Odo says, OOH.
The eagle continues,
AND WILL KEEP FOREST CAMP
RUNNING SMOOTHLY WHILE I'M IN MY
MEETING.
IT'S A VERY IMPORTANT--
A goose interrupts,
LOOK NO FURTHER, CAMP
LEADER, I'LL DO IT.
A chicken says,
NOT SO FAST, THIS IS A
CHICKEN'S JOB.
A flamingo says,
IT USED TO BE ME!
(Chuckling)
The eagle replies,
NOW, NOW.
I SHALL CHOOSE MY DEPUTY BEFORE
INSPECTOR FEATHERS ARRIVES,
WHICH WILL BE IN TWENTY MINUTES.
MY DEPUTY MUST BE FAST, FAIR,
AND VERY, VERY HELPFUL, AND THE
RIGHT BIRD CAN WEAR THIS SPECIAL
DEPUTY'S WOGGLE.
(Campers gasping)
Odo and Doodle walk past tall trees.
Odo says, FAST, FAIR, AND HELPFUL.
Doodle adds, VERY, VERY HELPFUL.
Odo replies,
DOODLE, I'M GOING TO WIN THAT
WOGGLE.
Doodle says,
I'M RIGHT BEHIND YOU, ODO.
(Chuckling)
Odo says,
I JUST NEED TO SHOW CAMP
LEADER THAT I'M ALL OF THOSE
THINGS.
Doodle adds,
AND YOU'LL BE THE DEPUTY.
Odo and Doodle say, SIMPLE!
(Both giggling)
Odo says,
LET'S WAIT HERE UNTIL CAMP
LEADER COMES OUT OF HER HUT.
The swan, the chicken, and the goose stand outside a wooden hut. Odo and Doodle turn to them.
The goose says,
EXCUSE ME, WE WERE HERE FIRST.
(Humming)
The eagle camp leader carries a bowl of fruits and nuts out of her hut.
The goose salutes the eagle.
The goose says,
RUDY, REPORTING FOR DUTY.
The flamingo interrupts,
LEAVE IT TO ME, CAMP LEADER.
The chicken jumps in front of the eagle.
The chicken says,
DEPUTY FLO, AT YOUR SERVICE.
Odo leaps up.
He says,
ODO, READY TO BE FAST, FAIR,
AND HELPFUL, CAMP LEADER.
The camp leader replies,
NOT JUST NOW, CAMPERS.
I NEED TO FIND A SPOT FOR MY
MEETING.
Odo flaps his wings as he jumps in the air.
He says,
I KNOW, CAMP LEADER!
THIS WAY!
Odo drags the camp leader through the forest. The bowl of fruits and nuts falls on the grass. The deputy’s woddle, a pendant with a tree on it, lands in a bush.
Doodle picks up the fruits and nuts and places them back in the bowl. She finds the woddle.
Doodle says, HMM.
Green hummingbirds pollinate purple and yellow flowers in a field.
Odo says,
MAKE WAY, CAMP LEADER COMING
THROUGH.
MAKE WAY, PLEASE!
The hummingbirds look angry as they fly away from Odo.
The reply, HM, CHARMING.
The camp leader sits on a tree stump
She says, OH!
Odo asks,
HOW'S THIS FOR A SPOT FOR
YOUR TEA?
The camp leader answers,
IT'S NOT BAD, I SUPPOSE.
(Grunting)
Doodle gives the bowl of fruits and nuts to the camp leader.
The camp leader says, THANK YOU.
Doodle hops down to Odo.
Odo asks,
DID YOU SEE THAT, DOODLE?
CAMP LEADER NEEDED SOMETHING,
AND ZOOM, ZOOM, I GOT IN THERE
SUPER FAST AND SUPER HELPFUL.
Flo, the chicken, interrupts,
HAH, YOU GOT LUCKY.
The flamingo asks,
HOW COULD YOU BE FASTER THAN
ME?
Odo answers,
EASILY, I'LL SHOW YOU AND
CAMP LEADER.
I'LL PROVE I'M THE FASTEST BIRD
IN CAMP.
LET'S HAVE A RACE.
Odo draws a line in the ground with a branch.
Rudy the goose, the flamingo, and Flo reply,
COUNT ME IN.
Odo says,
OKAY, AROUND THE GILLY TREE
AND BACK.
ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET--
Rudy says,
WAIT A MOMENT, YOU CAN'T
RACE AND BE THE REFEREE.
The flamingo adds,
THAT'S NOT FAIR!
Doodle says, I'LL BE THE REFEREE.
Odo replies, GOOD IDEA, DOODLE.
Flo says, OKAY.
The birds line up at the starting line. Doodle leaps onto a tree stump. She holds up a yellow flag.
Doodle says,
ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO!
The camp leader watches the birds race. The other birds pass Odo.
(All panting)
Birds gather at the gully tree.
A bird says,
HERE THEY COME!
Another bird says,
AND THERE THEY GO!
(Both laughing)
Rudy, Flo, and the flamingo run past the gully tree. Odo stops and runs back to the starting line.
A bird cheers, GO, GO!
(All panting)
The other birds run past Odo.
The camp leader approaches Doodle.
Doodle says, AND THE WINNER IS...
(All panting)
(Races grunting)
Rudy, Flo, and the flamingo get tangled up as they near the finish line. They fall down.
Odo crosses the finish line.
He shouts, YES!
Doodle says, ODO!
Odo adds,
YES, I DID IT!
I'M THE FASTEST!
DID EVERYONE SEE?
(All groaning)
Doodle helps Flo to her feet.
The camp leader says,
THAT WAS VERY ENTERTAINING,
BUT INSPECTOR FEATHERS WILL BE
HERE SOON, AND I HAVE TO MAKE A
DECISION.
Odo asks,
IT'S GOING TO BE ME, ISN'T
IT, DOODLE?
Doodle replies, I THINK IT IS, ODO.
The camp leader says,
IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE,
THAT I HEREBY ANNOUNCE THAT MY
DEPUTY WILL BE...
OH!
The camp leader searches for the woddle.
Odo says, YES!
The camp leader asks,
WHERE'S THAT WOGGLE?
(Gasping)
Doodle looks worried.
(Panting)
The camp leader says, HUH?
Doodle runs back to the woddle in the bush. She picks it up and returns it to the camp leader.
Doodle says, HERE IT IS.
The camp leader replies,
OH, THANK YOU, DOODLE.
THAT WAS FAST.
NOW, AS I WAS SAYING, I'M
DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT MY
DEPUTY WILL BE...
DOODLE!
Odo and the other birds look surprised.
They say, DOODLE?!
Odo adds, DOODLE?!
Doodle says, ME?
The other birds ask, WHY?
The camp leader answers,
WELL, BECAUSE, DOODLE, I
ASKED FOR MY DEPUTY TO BE FAST
AND FAIR AND VERY, VERY HELPFUL,
AND YOU HAVE BEEN ALL OF THOSE
THINGS.
The camp leader picks up Doodle.
Doodle asks, I HAVE?
The camp leader says,
WELL, YES!
YOU WERE A FAIR REFEREE IN ODO'S
RACE, YOU HELPED YOUR FELLOW
BIRDS TO THEIR FEET WHEN THEY
FELL, AND AS FAST AS YOU PLEASE
YOU FOUND ME THE DEPUTY'S
WOGGLE, WHICH IS NOW YOUR DEPUTY
WOGGLE.
OH, MY!
The camp leader looks at her watch. She rushes away from the other birds.
Odo looks upset. Doodle wears the woddle around her neck.
Odo groans, HM...
Doodle says,
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT CAMP
LEADER WAS GOING TO PICK ME.
Odo replies,
I WONDER IF CAMP LEADER MADE
A MISTAKE.
YOU DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO BE
DEPUTY.
Doodle adds,
YOU'RE RIGHT, ODO, IT MUST
BE A MISTAKE.
(All agreeing)
Rudy, Flo, and the flamingo walk away from Odo and Doodle.
Odo adds,
OR MAYBE IT'S NOT A MISTAKE.
WHY WOULD SHE CHOOSE YOU AND
NOT ME?
Doodle says,
YOU'RE RIGHT, ODO, IT'S JUST
NOT FAIR.
Odo crosses his wings.
He and Doodle say, HM.
Odo adds,
MAYBE...
MAYBE I'M JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
Doodle replies,
YOU'RE GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.
I KNOW, LET'S SHARE BEING
DEPUTY.
(Sighing)
Odo says,
THANKS, DOODLE, BUT THAT'S
NOT RIGHT.
YOU WERE THE BETTER BIRD.
YOU WERE FAST AND FAIR AND
HELPFUL.
VERY, VERY HELPFUL.
YOU WERE SIMPLY THE BEST BIRD
FOR THE JOB.
The camp leader calls,
DOODLE, DOODLE!
Odo adds,
AND THAT'S WHY CAMP LEADER
MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
Doodle replies, THANKS, ODO.
Doodle and Odo run to the camp leader’s hut. Inspector Feathers, another bald eagle, stands at the door. Inspector Feathers wears a brown cap and a red scarf around his neck.
The camp leader says,
AH, DOODLE, OUR VISITOR HAS
ARRIVED.
(All gasping)
Inspector Feathers approaches Doodle.
He says,
I HEAR CONGRATULATIONS ARE
IN ORDER, YOUNG DOODLE.
Inspector Feathers and Doodle shake wings.
A chicken shouts, GO, DOODLE!
Odo says,
THAT'S DEPUTY DOODLE TO YOU!
MY BEST FRIEND, DOODLE.
The camp leader asks,
SO, DOODLE, ARE YOU READY TO
TAKE CHARGE?
Doodle replies,
EM, JUST A MINUTE.
ODO, WILL YOU BE MY DEPUTY
DEPUTY CAMP LEADER?
(All gasping)
Odo answers, OF COURSE I WILL.
Doodle cheers, YAY!
Inspector Feathers nods to the camp leader.
Doodle turns to Odo.
Doodle says, DEPUTY?
Odo replies, READY!
(Chuckling, cheering)
Odo and Doodle salute the other birds.
