WELCOME TO MY HUT.
TODAY I'M GOING ON A
WALK WITH THE RAMBLERS
TO THE OLD RUINED MILL.
A sign beside the front door reads, Ranger’s Hut.
Ranger Hamza says,
IT'S A FUN, SAFE PLACE TO PLAY.
TO GET THERE WE'RE
GOING ON AN AMAZING WALK.
Ranger Hamza puts a backpack over his shoulder and on his back.
Ranger Hamza says,
IT STARTS OFF IN THE CITY,
BY THE END IT FEELS
LIKE THE COUNTRYSIDE.
YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU
MIGHT FIND AROUND YOU.
WANNA COME ALONG?
GREAT.
LET'S GO FOR A WALK.
(Music)
Footprints walk on an animated sidewalk and a crosswalk.
Rain falls. Three children wearing bright orange shirts and rain jackets and carrying clear umbrellas over their heads walk on a sidewalk. Each child holds the hand of an adult.
Ranger Hamza says,
THE RAMBLERS TODAY ARE LAYTON,
HOLLY, AND ERIN.
Layton has close-cropped brown hair. Holly has long brown hair tied back. Erin has light red hair and wears glasses.
Footprints walk on an animated map. They wind along a path on the side of a river and stop at a yellow mill.
Ranger Hamza says, WE'RE GOING TO MEET UP
AND WALK TO THE OLD,
RUINED MILL TOGETHER.
Ranger Hamza walks under a bridge carrying a closed umbrella.
Ranger Hamza says, THEY'RE GOING TO MEET ME AT
THE BOTTOM OF THE ESCALATOR.
Layton, Holly, and Erin, the Ramblers, and the three adults, turn a corner on the sidewalk and walk to the top of a glass-covered escalator.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHAT A GREAT START TO OUR WALK.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN
ON AN ESCALATOR?
Erin and a woman holding her hand step off the bottom of the escalator.
Erin says, WOAH THAT WAS HIGH.
Ranger Hamza walks with his umbrella open over his head.
Ranger Hamza says, HI GUYS.
READY TO GO FOR A WALK TODAY?
The Ramblers say, YEAH!
Ranger Hamza says, YEAH?
Ranger Hamza says,
THE RAMBLERS ARE READY.
LET'S GO!
The three adults wave. The Ramblers wave back and turn to follow Ranger Hamza.
Ranger Hamza says, COME ON.
ERIN, THIS WAY.
(Erin chuckles)
Ranger Hamza walks beside a parking lot with the Ramblers behind him.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHAT DO YOU THINK WE'RE
GONNA FIND ON OUR WALK TODAY?
The Ramblers say, SQUIRRELS, BIRDS.
BIKES.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk on a tree-lined path in a park.
Ranger Hamza says,
IF YOU SEE ANY OF THOSE
POINT THEM OUT TO ME, OK?
ISN'T THAT AMAZING?
THE ESCALATOR TAKES
YOU FROM A BUSY STREET,
STRAIGHT INTO A PARK?
Raindrops fall in a puddle.
Layton says, A BIG PUDDLE!
Holly says, SPLASH IN
THE BIG PUDDLE.
Ranger Hamza says, YEAH, GO FOR IT.
The Ramblers, all wearing rubber boots, and Ranger Hamza jump and splash in the puddle.
Holly says, I'M GONNA
DO MY BEST SPLASH.
Ranger Hamza says, SPLASH!
SPLASH SPLASH!
GO ON!
Erin says, SPLASH! SPLASH!
Ranger Hamza says, SPLASH, SPLASH!
Ranger Hamza says,
JUMPING IN PUDDLES IS FUN.
IT'S A GOOD THING THAT THE
RAMBLERS HAVE THEIR WELLIES ON.
Ranger Hamza says to the Ramblers, SHALL WE KEEP ON GOING?
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, COME ON THEN.
(Music)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers stop at a metal railing beside a river.
The Ramblers say, OOOOOH!
Layton says, A BRIDGE.
Holly says, A BIG, BIG BRIDGE.
Ranger Hamza says, A BIG,
BIG BRIDGE.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers look at a large green steel bridge over the river. The bottom of the bridge is in the shape of an arch.
Ranger Hamza says,
CAN YOU SEE THE ARCH?
An animated rainbow appears on the arch shape under the bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, A RAINBOW
IS AN ARCH SHAPE TOO.
I WONDER IF WE'LL SEE
ANY MORE ON OUR WALK.
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN.
AT THE END OF OUR WALK,
WE'LL SEE HOW MANY
ARCHES YOU NOTICE TOO.
A window in a stone building has an arched top.
Layton points at the river and says, I CAN SEE THE RIVER.
Ranger Hamza says,
CAN YOU SEE THE
RAIN DROPLETS ON THE WATER?
Raindrops fall and splash on the surface of the river. Animated yellow stars flash on the river.
Layton says, YEAH. EVERY SPLASH ON
THE WATER IS LIKE A STAR.
TWINKLING IN THE NIGHT SKY.
(Raindrops splashing)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers repeat,
PITTER PATTER, PITTER PATTER.
PITTER PATTER, PITTER PATTER.
Ranger Hamza says, I LOVE THE
SOUND OF RAIN ON MY UMBRELLA.
CAN YOU HEAR IT
HITTING THE LEAVES?
Rain falls on leaves hanging over the river.
(Raindrops splashing)
Two ducks swim and lower their heads into the river. They paddle their webbed feet.
Ranger Hamza says,
DUCKS DON'T MIND THE RAIN EITHER.
THE WATER JUST ROLLS
OFF THEIR FEATHERS.
(Music)
Children sing, LET'S GO FOR A WALK
Animated footprints circle a puddle and splash in the middle of it.
(Splash)
A child sings, EXPLORE OUTSIDE TOGETHER
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run on a path under an arch of tree branches covered with leaves.
Ranger Hamza says, GO GO GO GO!
ALL THE RAINWATER
FLOWS INTO THE
DRAINS AND RIVERS.
Erin says, A WATERFALL!
A WATERFALL!
A WATERFALL!
Ranger Hamza says, A
WATERFALL THAT'S RIGHT!
Water flows over a small dam across the river.
Ranger Hamza says,
THIS TYPE
OF WATERFALL IS CALLED A WEIR.
IT HELPS TO CONTROL THE
WATER LEVEL IN THE RIVER.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers wave their arms.
Ranger Hamza says,
AND THEN THE RIVER
TWISTS AND TURNS.
Erin points and says, THAT WAY AND THAT WAY.
AND ROUND
AND ROUND AND ROUND.
Ranger Hamza spins his hand and says,
ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND?
Holly says, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, AND THEN.
Holly points down the river and says, ALONG THERE
AND THEN INTO THE SEA.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHERE IS IT GOING?
Holly says, INTO THE SEA.
Ranger Hamza says, INTO THE
SEA THAT'S RIGHT YEAH.
SO WHICH WAY DO YOU
THINK THE SEA IS AT.
The Ramblers point down the river.
Holly says, THAT WAY.
Ranger Hamza says, THAT WAY.
THAT'S RIGHT.
Holly says, CAUSE IT’S,
IT'S GOING THAT WAY.
Ranger Hamza says, HOLLY'S RIGHT.
FRESH WATER RIVERS
ALWAYS FLOW TO THE SEA.
WE'VE GOT A GOOD GAME
TO TEST FOR SURE
WHICH DIRECTION THAT IS.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run across a narrow bridge over the river.
Ranger Hamza says, SEE IF
YOU GUYS CAN FIND A STICK, OK?
The Ramblers search the floor of the bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, IF WE
THROW STICKS INTO THE RIVER,
THEY'LL BE CARRIED OFF IN
THE DIRECTION OF THE SEA.
The Ramblers and Ranger Hamza stand facing each other and hold up small sticks.
Holly says, I'VE GOT SUPER SLIMY.
Ranger Hamza says, SLIMY, WHY IS IT SLIMY.
Holly says, CAUSE IT'S WET?
Holly makes a disgusted face and waves her hand around.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHAT ELSE IS SLIMY?
Erin says, SNAILS!
Ranger Hamza says, SNAILS?
Holly says, AND WORMS.
Ranger Hamza says, AND WORMS.
Layton says, SLUGS.
Ranger Hamza leads the Ramblers to the centre of the bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, SO, DO
YOU WANNA PLAY THE GAME?
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Erin says, COUNT TO FOUR.
Ranger Hamza says, DO YOU
WANT TO COUNT TO FOUR?
Erin says, YES.
Ranger Hamza says, OK.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers hold the sticks up.
Erin says, 1, 2, 3, 4!
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers throw the sticks into the river.
(Sticks splash)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers look down into the river.
Layton says, THERE IT IS.
Ranger Hamza says, OK LET'S
HAVE A LOOK ON THE OTHER SIDE.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk to the other side of the bridge and look in the river.
Erin says, LET'S GO, LET'S GO,
LET'S GO, LET'S GO.
Ranger Hamza says, WHO’S GONNA WIN?
The Ramblers say, MINE'S GOIN'!
MINE'S GOIN'.
The sticks float in the river.
Ranger Hamza says, I CAN SEE 'EM.
CAN YOU SEE 'EM?
Erin says, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, SO WHICH
WAY IS THE WATER GOING?
Erin points and says, THAT WAY!
Ranger Hamza says, THAT'S' RIGHT.
(Gentle music)
Ranger Hamza says, OUR STICKS
ARE LIKE LITTLE BOATS
HEADING OUT TO SEA.
SHIP AHOY!
An animated red and blue sail appears on a stick as it floats on the river.
(Gentle music)
Layton says, THE RIVER
NEVER STOPS.
EVEN WHEN
WE GO TO SLEEP,
IT GOES ON AND ON.
(Water flowing)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk on a path beside a wooden fence.
(Gentle music)
Ranger Hamza says,
OOOH, LOOK AT THIS, GUYS.
ISN'T THAT INTERESTING?
Ranger Hamza points up at a tall stone wall covered in plants.
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, YEAH.
WHAT CAN YOU SEE ON THE WALL?
Holly says, PLANTS.
Ranger Hamza says, PLANTS.
Layton says, FLOWERS.
Ranger Hamza says, AND FLOWERS.
THIS RUBBERY LOOKING PLANT
IS CALLED LIVER WORT.
IT'S A BIT LIKE MOSS AND
LOVES THE DAMP WEATHER,
BUT IT CAN MAKE YOUR SKIN ITCH.
SO, WE WON'T BE TOUCHING IT.
Ranger Hamza looks at the Ramblers and says,
SO, I'VE GOT SOMETHING
REALLY INTERESTING.
I THINK...
Erin jumps up and says, [INAUDIBLE]
Ranger Hamza says, YES, OF COURSE.
Ranger Hamza takes off his backpack and opens it.
Ranger Hamza says,
SO I'LL LET YOU
GUYS EACH HAVE ONE,
LET ME SEE...
WHAT'S THIS?
Ranger Hamza takes a magnifying glass out of the backpack.
Holly says, A MAGNIFYING GLASS.
Ranger Hamza gives a magnifying glass to each of the Ramblers.
Ranger Hamza says, SO
THAT'S ONE FOR YOU.
ONE FOR YOU LAYTON.
AND ONE FOR YOU HOLLY.
Holly says, THANK YOU.
Erin says, WHAT?
Ranger Hamza says,
I'VE GOT ONE FOR ME.
RIGHT HERE.
SO, SHALL WE HAVE A
LOOK AT THE FLOWERS?
CAN YOU SPOT THEM WITH
YOUR MAGNIFYING GLASS?
Holly and Layton look at each other through the magnifying glasses.
Ranger Hamza says, LET'S SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE?
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers look at the plants on the stone wall with the magnifying glasses.
Erin says, MINE'S SUPER SPIKEY.
Ranger Hamza says, YOURS
IS SUPER SPIKEY?
Ranger Hamza says, WITH
OUR MAGNIFYING GLASSES
EVEN THESE LITTLE GRASSY
BITS THAT ARE POKING OUT
LOOK BIGGER AND SPIKEY.
OK LET'S
COUNT THE PETALS ON THE FLOWERS.
THESE FLOWERS
ARE FROM A DIFFERENT PLANT
AND THEY'RE SAFE
FOR US TO TOUCH.
Holly holds a pink flower on the wall and looks down at it with her magnifying glass.
Holly counts, ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
Holly holds up five fingers on her left hand and says,
FIVE.
Ranger Hamza says, FIVE?
PERFECT.
(Holly whispers)
Ranger Hamza says,
IT'S CALLED HERB ROBERT.
AND IT ALWAYS HAS 5 PETALS.
Animated numbers appear on the five petals of a pink flower.
Ranger Hamza counts,
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
Ranger Hamza says,
AND SOME PEOPLE THINK
IT BRINGS GOOD LUCK.
SHALL WE KEEP ON GOING?
Layton says, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza walks on the path and the Ramblers follow him.
Ranger Hamza says, COME ON THEN.
LET'S GO.
A long brown slug moves slowly on a patch of wet leaves.
Ranger Hamza says, THE SLUG LIKES THE DAMP TOO.
CAN YOU SEE IT MOVING
ACROSS THE WET LEAVES?
Ranger Hamza says,
AND HERE IS A SPIDER,
STILL HIDING FROM THE RAIN.
A spider rests underneath a rail of a wooden fence. The sun shines through tree branches.
Layton says, THE RAIN'S GOING
AWAY AND THE SUN'S COME OUT.
Erin says, THE SUN MAKES THE
RIVER SPARKLE LIKE A NECKLACE.
Sun shines on the surface of the river.
Ranger Hamza says, WE'RE
HALFWAY THROUGH OUR WALK.
Footprints walk along a river on an animated map.
Ranger Hamza says,
AFTER THE ESCALATOR,
WE SAW SWIRLY WATER.
THREW STICKS INTO THE RIVER.
AND CHECKED OUT A
WALL COVERED IN PLANTS.
I WONDER WHAT ELSE WE'LL
SEE BEFORE WE GET TO THE OLD,
RUINED MILL.
DON'T FORGET, KEEP AN EYE
OUT FOR ARCH SHAPES AS WE GO.
An arched bridge crosses over the river.
Ranger Hamza says,
HEY GUYS, DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN
IT WAS RAINING EARLIER.
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, AND
NOW THE SUN'S OUT,
CAN YOU SEE YOUR SHADOWS.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk on a path under trees and look down at their shadows.
Holly says, YES.
Ranger Hamza says, I
CAN SEE MY SHADOW.
Erin says, I CAN SEE MINE.
Holly says, I THINK MINE IS WALKING.
Layton says, MINE IS FOLLOWING ME.
Ranger Hamza says, CAN
YOU MAKE ANY SHAPES?
WITH THE SHADOW?
OH LOOK, LOOK, THIS IS A DOGGY,
CAN YOU SEE THE DOGGY?
Ranger Hamza makes a shadow with his hands on the ground in the shape of a dog.
(Barking)
(Meowing)
(Barking)
The Ramblers make shadows shaped like different animals on the ground.
Ranger Hamza says, OOOH THAT'S
A REALLY NICE BUTTERFLY.
LOOK!
AH THAT'S COOL I LIKE THAT ONE.
IT'S TURNED INTO A LOVELY DAY.
CAN YOU SEE THE LION?
A red lion on a white crest is on the top of a green bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, RARGH!
I THINK THIS SHAPE
IS LIKE A SLICE OF CHEESE.
A blue animated line traces around a keystone at the top of an arch on a bridge. The blue line turns into an animated slice of cheese.
Ranger Hamza runs on a path, followed by the Ramblers.
Ranger Hamza says, GO, GO GO GO!
(Laughing)
A blue bridge arches over the river.
Ranger Hamza says, IT LOOKS
LIKE THE COUNTRYSIDE HERE,
BUT WE'RE STILL IN THE CITY.
A building with windows appears among the leafy branches of trees.
Layton says, PEOPLE
ARE ALL AROUND US,
BUT THEY'RE HIDDEN BY THE TREES.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers march on a path, splashing through puddles.
Ranger Hamza says, LEFT, RIGHT LEFT.
LEFT RIGHT LEFT.
LEFT. LEFT.
LEFT RIGHT LEFT.
LEFT, LEFT, LEFT RIGHT LEFT.
(Splashing)
Ranger Hamza says,
OH GUYS, GUYS. IVY!
Ranger Hamza stops and points at ivy growing on the trunk of a tree.
Ranger Hamza says,
THE IVY'S
GROWING ROUND THE TREE.
ON THE GROUND,
IVY IS ONLY A FEW
CENTIMETRES TALL.
BUT IF IT'S GOT
SOMETHING TO CLIMB,
LIKE A TREE, A POST OR A WALL.
IVY CAN GROW AS
HIGH AS THESE TREES.
Ranger Hamza points at ivy growing on a tree and moves his hand up. The Ramblers look at the tree.
Ranger Hamza says,
IT'S LIKE A SNAKE.
(Hissing)
Ranger Hamza says, IT'S CLIMBING ALL THE WAY UP.
WHO LIKES SNAKES?
Erin says, NOT ME!
Ranger Hamza says, YOU
DON'T LIKE SNAKES?
COME ON LET'S GO,
LET'S GO, LET'S GO.
Ranger Hamza runs away from the tree. The Ramblers follow.
(The Ramblers scream)
Ranger Hamza says, I'M SCARED OF SNAKES!
Animated red and orange snakes appear out of the tree and wave around.
(Hissing)
(The Ramblers scream)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run on a path under a narrow arched tunnel.
Ranger Hamza says, IT'S GONNA GET US!
(Echoing)
(The Ramblers scream)
(Echoing)
Ranger Hamza says, EH! CAN
YOU GUYS HEAR THAT?
Layton says, YEAH!
Ranger Hamza says,
WHAT CAN YOU HEAR? LISTEN.
HELLO!
(Echoing)
Layton says, ECHO!
Ranger Hamza says, ECHO!
Layton says, HELLO!
Erin says, ECHO!!!
Ranger Hamza says, IS ANYBODY THERE.
Holly says, IS ANYBODY THERE.
(Shouting)
Ranger Hamza says, SO, CAN YOU
EXPLAIN TO ME HOW AN ECHO WORKS?
Holly says, YOU SHOUT
AND IT BOUNCES OFF THE TOP
TO THE GROUND.
Ranger Hamza says,
YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.
Holly says, IT SOUND LIKE
YOU DID IT TWO TIMES, LIKE.
HELLO!
Ranger Hamza says,
ON THREE. SHALL WE ALL SAY
HELLO REALLY LOUDLY, YEAH?
1, 2, 3.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers shout, HELLO!!!
(Echoing)
Ranger Hamza whispers,
LISTEN.
(Music)

A child sings,
EXPLORE OUTSIDE TOGETHER
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk on a path in the park.
Ranger Hamza says, WE'RE NEARLY THERE, GUYS.
WE'RE NEARLY AT THE RUIN.
COME ON, LET'S TAKE A SEAT.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers sit at the bottom of a flight of stone steps.
Ranger Hamza says,
CAN ANYONE REMEMBER
WHAT WE DID TODAY?
Footprints walk on an animated map.

THEN WE SPLASHED
IN SOME PUDDLES.

STICKS IN THE RIVER.
Ranger Hamza says,
THEN AT THE SLIMY WALL, WHAT DID
WE USE TO LOOK AT THE RUBBERY
AND SPIKEY PLANTS?

Ranger Hamza says,
ALL ALONG THE WAY WE WERE
KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR ARCHES.

WAS THIS BIG GREEN BRIDGE.
DID YOU SPOT ANY OF THESE ONES?

(Pop, pop, pop)
(Music)
Ranger Hamza says, SO, WHAT
ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO DO
WHEN WE GET TO THE RUINS?
Erin says, PLAY!
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers arrive at a ruined mill. A series of stone walls and paths are spread over the ground. Grass grows around the walls.
Ranger Hamza says,
AND HERE WE ARE!
THIS USED TO BE A MILL.
Three large round mill wheels lie on the ground.
Ranger Hamza says,
THEY USED TO GRIND UP STONES
INTO TINY LITTLE POWDER
AND THEY USED TO
MAKE POTTERY OUT OF IT.
TO MAKE IT SHINY.
NOW IT'S PERFECT FOR A GAME
OF HIDE AND SEEK.
The Ramblers run around the walls of the ruined mill.
Ranger Hamza says,
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED
OUR WALK TODAY.
WE CERTAINLY DID.
NEXT TIME YOU GO FOR A WALK.
WHY DON'T YOU KEEP
YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN,
YOU CAN HAVE AN ADVENTURE TOO?

Raindrops fall and splash on the surface of the river. Animated yellow stars flash on the river.
Layton says, YEAH. EVERY SPLASH ON
THE WATER IS LIKE A STAR.
TWINKLING IN THE NIGHT SKY.
(Raindrops splashing)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers repeat,
PITTER PATTER, PITTER PATTER.
PITTER PATTER, PITTER PATTER.
Ranger Hamza says, I LOVE THE
SOUND OF RAIN ON MY UMBRELLA.
CAN YOU HEAR IT
HITTING THE LEAVES?
Rain falls on leaves hanging over the river.
(Raindrops splashing)
Two ducks swim and lower their heads into the river. They paddle their webbed feet.
Ranger Hamza says,
DUCKS DON'T MIND THE RAIN EITHER.
THE WATER JUST ROLLS
OFF THEIR FEATHERS.
(Music)
Children sing, LET'S GO FOR A WALK
Animated footprints circle a puddle and splash in the middle of it.
(Splash)
A child sings, EXPLORE OUTSIDE TOGETHER
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run on a path under an arch of tree branches covered with leaves.
Ranger Hamza says, GO GO GO GO!
ALL THE RAINWATER
FLOWS INTO THE
DRAINS AND RIVERS.
Erin says, A WATERFALL!
A WATERFALL!
A WATERFALL!
Ranger Hamza says, A
WATERFALL THAT'S RIGHT!
Water flows over a small dam across the river.
Ranger Hamza says,
THIS TYPE
OF WATERFALL IS CALLED A WEIR.
IT HELPS TO CONTROL THE
WATER LEVEL IN THE RIVER.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers wave their arms.
Ranger Hamza says,
AND THEN THE RIVER
TWISTS AND TURNS.
Erin points and says, THAT WAY AND THAT WAY.
AND ROUND
AND ROUND AND ROUND.
Ranger Hamza spins his hand and says,
ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND?
Holly says, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, AND THEN.
Holly points down the river and says, ALONG THERE
AND THEN INTO THE SEA.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHERE IS IT GOING?
Holly says, INTO THE SEA.
Ranger Hamza says, INTO THE
SEA THAT'S RIGHT YEAH.
SO WHICH WAY DO YOU
THINK THE SEA IS AT.
The Ramblers point down the river.
Holly says, THAT WAY.
Ranger Hamza says, THAT WAY.
THAT'S RIGHT.
Holly says, CAUSE IT’S,
IT'S GOING THAT WAY.
Ranger Hamza says, HOLLY'S RIGHT.
FRESH WATER RIVERS
ALWAYS FLOW TO THE SEA.
WE'VE GOT A GOOD GAME
TO TEST FOR SURE
WHICH DIRECTION THAT IS.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run across a narrow bridge over the river.
Ranger Hamza says, SEE IF
YOU GUYS CAN FIND A STICK, OK?
The Ramblers search the floor of the bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, IF WE
THROW STICKS INTO THE RIVER,
THEY'LL BE CARRIED OFF IN
THE DIRECTION OF THE SEA.
The Ramblers and Ranger Hamza stand facing each other and hold up small sticks.
Holly says, I'VE GOT SUPER SLIMY.
Ranger Hamza says, SLIMY, WHY IS IT SLIMY.
Holly says, CAUSE IT'S WET?
Holly makes a disgusted face and waves her hand around.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHAT ELSE IS SLIMY?
Erin says, SNAILS!
Ranger Hamza says, SNAILS?
Holly says, AND WORMS.
Ranger Hamza says, AND WORMS.
Layton says, SLUGS.
Ranger Hamza leads the Ramblers to the centre of the bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, SO, DO
YOU WANNA PLAY THE GAME?
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Erin says, COUNT TO FOUR.
Ranger Hamza says, DO YOU
WANT TO COUNT TO FOUR?
Erin says, YES.
Ranger Hamza says, OK.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers hold the sticks up.
Erin says, 1, 2, 3, 4!
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers throw the sticks into the river.
(Sticks splash)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers look down into the river.
Layton says, THERE IT IS.
Ranger Hamza says, OK LET'S
HAVE A LOOK ON THE OTHER SIDE.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk to the other side of the bridge and look in the river.
Erin says, LET'S GO, LET'S GO,
LET'S GO, LET'S GO.
Ranger Hamza says, WHO’S GONNA WIN?
The Ramblers say, MINE'S GOIN'!
MINE'S GOIN'.
The sticks float in the river.
Ranger Hamza says, I CAN SEE 'EM.
CAN YOU SEE 'EM?
Erin says, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, SO WHICH
WAY IS THE WATER GOING?
Erin points and says, THAT WAY!
Ranger Hamza says, THAT'S' RIGHT.
(Gentle music)
Ranger Hamza says, OUR STICKS
ARE LIKE LITTLE BOATS
HEADING OUT TO SEA.
SHIP AHOY!
An animated red and blue sail appears on a stick as it floats on the river.
(Gentle music)
Layton says, THE RIVER
NEVER STOPS.
EVEN WHEN
WE GO TO SLEEP,
IT GOES ON AND ON.
(Water flowing)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk on a path beside a wooden fence.
(Gentle music)
Ranger Hamza says,
OOOH, LOOK AT THIS, GUYS.
ISN'T THAT INTERESTING?
Ranger Hamza points up at a tall stone wall covered in plants.
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, YEAH.
WHAT CAN YOU SEE ON THE WALL?
Holly says, PLANTS.
Ranger Hamza says, PLANTS.
Layton says, FLOWERS.
Ranger Hamza says, AND FLOWERS.
THIS RUBBERY LOOKING PLANT
IS CALLED LIVER WORT.
IT'S A BIT LIKE MOSS AND
LOVES THE DAMP WEATHER,
BUT IT CAN MAKE YOUR SKIN ITCH.
SO, WE WON'T BE TOUCHING IT.
Ranger Hamza looks at the Ramblers and says,
SO, I'VE GOT SOMETHING
REALLY INTERESTING.
I THINK...
Erin jumps up and says, [INAUDIBLE]
Ranger Hamza says, YES, OF COURSE.
Ranger Hamza takes off his backpack and opens it.
Ranger Hamza says,
SO I'LL LET YOU
GUYS EACH HAVE ONE,
LET ME SEE...
WHAT'S THIS?
Ranger Hamza takes a magnifying glass out of the backpack.
Holly says, A MAGNIFYING GLASS.
Ranger Hamza gives a magnifying glass to each of the Ramblers.
Ranger Hamza says, SO
THAT'S ONE FOR YOU.
ONE FOR YOU LAYTON.
AND ONE FOR YOU HOLLY.
Holly says, THANK YOU.
Erin says, WHAT?
Ranger Hamza says,
I'VE GOT ONE FOR ME.
RIGHT HERE.
SO, SHALL WE HAVE A
LOOK AT THE FLOWERS?
CAN YOU SPOT THEM WITH
YOUR MAGNIFYING GLASS?
Holly and Layton look at each other through the magnifying glasses.
Ranger Hamza says, LET'S SEE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE?
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers look at the plants on the stone wall with the magnifying glasses.
Erin says, MINE'S SUPER SPIKEY.
Ranger Hamza says, YOURS
IS SUPER SPIKEY?
Ranger Hamza says, WITH
OUR MAGNIFYING GLASSES
EVEN THESE LITTLE GRASSY
BITS THAT ARE POKING OUT
LOOK BIGGER AND SPIKEY.
OK LET'S
COUNT THE PETALS ON THE FLOWERS.
THESE FLOWERS
ARE FROM A DIFFERENT PLANT
AND THEY'RE SAFE
FOR US TO TOUCH.
Holly holds a pink flower on the wall and looks down at it with her magnifying glass.
Holly counts, ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
Holly holds up five fingers on her left hand and says,
FIVE.
Ranger Hamza says, FIVE?
PERFECT.
(Holly whispers)
Ranger Hamza says,
IT'S CALLED HERB ROBERT.
AND IT ALWAYS HAS 5 PETALS.
Animated numbers appear on the five petals of a pink flower.
Ranger Hamza counts,
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
Ranger Hamza says,
AND SOME PEOPLE THINK
IT BRINGS GOOD LUCK.
SHALL WE KEEP ON GOING?
Layton says, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza walks on the path and the Ramblers follow him.
Ranger Hamza says, COME ON THEN.
LET'S GO.
A long brown slug moves slowly on a patch of wet leaves.
Ranger Hamza says, THE SLUG LIKES THE DAMP TOO.
CAN YOU SEE IT MOVING
ACROSS THE WET LEAVES?
Ranger Hamza says,
AND HERE IS A SPIDER,
STILL HIDING FROM THE RAIN.
A spider rests underneath a rail of a wooden fence. The sun shines through tree branches.
Layton says, THE RAIN'S GOING
AWAY AND THE SUN'S COME OUT.
Erin says, THE SUN MAKES THE
RIVER SPARKLE LIKE A NECKLACE.
Sun shines on the surface of the river.
Ranger Hamza says, WE'RE
HALFWAY THROUGH OUR WALK.
Footprints walk along a river on an animated map.
Ranger Hamza says,
AFTER THE ESCALATOR,
WE SAW SWIRLY WATER.
THREW STICKS INTO THE RIVER.
AND CHECKED OUT A
WALL COVERED IN PLANTS.
I WONDER WHAT ELSE WE'LL
SEE BEFORE WE GET TO THE OLD,
RUINED MILL.
DON'T FORGET, KEEP AN EYE
OUT FOR ARCH SHAPES AS WE GO.
An arched bridge crosses over the river.
Ranger Hamza says,
HEY GUYS, DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN
IT WAS RAINING EARLIER.
The Ramblers say, YEAH.
Ranger Hamza says, AND
NOW THE SUN'S OUT,
CAN YOU SEE YOUR SHADOWS.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers walk on a path under trees and look down at their shadows.
Holly says, YES.
Ranger Hamza says, I
CAN SEE MY SHADOW.
Erin says, I CAN SEE MINE.
Holly says, I THINK MINE IS WALKING.
Layton says, MINE IS FOLLOWING ME.
Ranger Hamza says, CAN
YOU MAKE ANY SHAPES?
WITH THE SHADOW?
OH LOOK, LOOK, THIS IS A DOGGY,
CAN YOU SEE THE DOGGY?
Ranger Hamza makes a shadow with his hands on the ground in the shape of a dog.
(Barking)
(Meowing)
(Barking)
The Ramblers make shadows shaped like different animals on the ground.
Ranger Hamza says, OOOH THAT'S
A REALLY NICE BUTTERFLY.
LOOK!
AH THAT'S COOL I LIKE THAT ONE.
IT'S TURNED INTO A LOVELY DAY.
CAN YOU SEE THE LION?
A red lion on a white crest is on the top of a green bridge.
Ranger Hamza says, RARGH!
I THINK THIS SHAPE
IS LIKE A SLICE OF CHEESE.
A blue animated line traces around a keystone at the top of an arch on a bridge. The blue line turns into an animated slice of cheese.
Ranger Hamza runs on a path, followed by the Ramblers.
Ranger Hamza says, GO, GO GO GO!
(Laughing)
A blue bridge arches over the river.
Ranger Hamza says, IT LOOKS
LIKE THE COUNTRYSIDE HERE,
BUT WE'RE STILL IN THE CITY.
A building with windows appears among the leafy branches of trees.
Layton says, PEOPLE
ARE ALL AROUND US,
BUT THEY'RE HIDDEN BY THE TREES.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers march on a path, splashing through puddles.
Ranger Hamza says, LEFT, RIGHT LEFT.
LEFT RIGHT LEFT.
LEFT. LEFT.
LEFT RIGHT LEFT.
LEFT, LEFT, LEFT RIGHT LEFT.
(Splashing)
Ranger Hamza says,
OH GUYS, GUYS. IVY!
Ranger Hamza stops and points at ivy growing on the trunk of a tree.
Ranger Hamza says,
THE IVY'S
GROWING ROUND THE TREE.
ON THE GROUND,
IVY IS ONLY A FEW
CENTIMETRES TALL.
BUT IF IT'S GOT
SOMETHING TO CLIMB,
LIKE A TREE, A POST OR A WALL.
IVY CAN GROW AS
HIGH AS THESE TREES.
Ranger Hamza points at ivy growing on a tree and moves his hand up. The Ramblers look at the tree.
Ranger Hamza says,
IT'S LIKE A SNAKE.
(Hissing)
Ranger Hamza says, IT'S CLIMBING ALL THE WAY UP.
WHO LIKES SNAKES?
Erin says, NOT ME!
Ranger Hamza says, YOU
DON'T LIKE SNAKES?
COME ON LET'S GO,
LET'S GO, LET'S GO.
Ranger Hamza runs away from the tree. The Ramblers follow.
(The Ramblers scream)
Ranger Hamza says, I'M SCARED OF SNAKES!
Animated red and orange snakes appear out of the tree and wave around.
(Hissing)
(The Ramblers scream)
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run on a path under a narrow arched tunnel.
Ranger Hamza says, IT'S GONNA GET US!
(Echoing)
(The Ramblers scream)
(Echoing)
Ranger Hamza says, EH! CAN
YOU GUYS HEAR THAT?
Layton says, YEAH!
Ranger Hamza says,
WHAT CAN YOU HEAR? LISTEN.
HELLO!
(Echoing)
Layton says, ECHO!
Ranger Hamza says, ECHO!
Layton says, HELLO!
Erin says, ECHO!!!
Ranger Hamza says, IS ANYBODY THERE.
Holly says, IS ANYBODY THERE.
(Shouting)
Ranger Hamza says, SO, CAN YOU
EXPLAIN TO ME HOW AN ECHO WORKS?
Holly says, YOU SHOUT
AND IT BOUNCES OFF THE TOP
TO THE GROUND.
Ranger Hamza says,
YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.
Holly says, IT SOUND LIKE
YOU DID IT TWO TIMES, LIKE.
HELLO!
Ranger Hamza says,
ON THREE. SHALL WE ALL SAY
HELLO REALLY LOUDLY, YEAH?
1, 2, 3.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers shout, HELLO!!!
(Echoing)
Ranger Hamza whispers,
LISTEN.
(Music)
Children sing,
LET'S GO FOR A WALK
Animated trees, houses, and buildings appear.
(Pop, pop, pop)
Ranger Hamza says, WE STARTED
OUR WALK AT THE ESCALATOR.
Flashback: The Ramblers, each with an adult, go down a covered escalator.
Ranger Hamza says,
THEN WE SPLASHED
IN SOME PUDDLES.
Flashback: The Ramblers splash in their rubber boots in a puddle.
The Ramblers say, SPLASH! SPLASH!
SPLASH!
Ranger Hamza says, AND WE SAW
SOME SWIRLING WATER.
WE HAD A GREAT GAME TO TEST
WHICH WAY THE RIVER FLOWS.
Flashback: Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers throw small sticks off a bridge into the river.
A Rambler says, WE THREW
STICKS IN THE RIVER.
Ranger Hamza says,
THEN AT THE SLIMY WALL, WHAT DID
WE USE TO LOOK AT THE RUBBERY
AND SPIKEY PLANTS?
Flashback: Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers looks through magnifying glasses at a stone wall covered in plants.
Layton says, MAGNIFYING GLASSES.
Ranger Hamza says,
WHEN THE SUN CAME OUT,
WE PLAYED WITH OUR SHADOWS.
Flashback: Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers make shadows shaped like animals on the ground with their hands.
(Barking)
(Squealing)
A Rambler says, WE RAN
FROM THE SNAKES.
Flashback: Red and orange animated snakes wave around on a vine-covered tree.
A Rambler says, IT'S BECAUSE
THEY WERE CHASING US.
Layton says, WE WENT
THROUGH THE TUNNEL.
Flashback: Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers run into a narrow arched tunnel.
(Screaming)
The Ramblers shout, HELLO!
(Echoing)
Ranger Hamza says, AND NOW
WE END OUR WALK AT THE OLD,
RUINED MILL.
Footprints on the animated map end at a yellow mill.
Ranger Hamza says,
ALL ALONG THE WAY WE WERE
KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR ARCHES.
HOW MANY DID
YOU SEE ON OUR WALK TODAY?
THE FIRST ONE WE SAW
WAS THIS BIG GREEN BRIDGE.
DID YOU SPOT ANY OF THESE ONES?
Flashbacks: A green metal bridge with an arch underneath crosses the river. A window on a stone building has an arched top. A blue bridge arches over the river. A narrow arched tunnel stands in the park. An arched bridge in the park crosses the river.
Ranger Hamza says, I THINK THIS TREE LOOKS
LIKE AN ARCH SHAPE TOO.
Flashback: Large tree branches grow over a path in the park.
Animated trees, houses, and buildings appear.
(Pop, pop, pop)
(Music)
Ranger Hamza says, SO, WHAT
ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO DO
WHEN WE GET TO THE RUINS?
Erin says, PLAY!
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers arrive at a ruined mill. A series of stone walls and paths are spread over the ground. Grass grows around the walls.
Ranger Hamza says,
AND HERE WE ARE!
THIS USED TO BE A MILL.
Three large round mill wheels lie on the ground.
Ranger Hamza says,
THEY USED TO GRIND UP STONES
INTO TINY LITTLE POWDER
AND THEY USED TO
MAKE POTTERY OUT OF IT.
TO MAKE IT SHINY.
NOW IT'S PERFECT FOR A GAME
OF HIDE AND SEEK.
The Ramblers run around the walls of the ruined mill.
Ranger Hamza says,
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED
OUR WALK TODAY.
WE CERTAINLY DID.
NEXT TIME YOU GO FOR A WALK.
WHY DON'T YOU KEEP
YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN,
YOU CAN HAVE AN ADVENTURE TOO?
Ranger Hamza covers his eyes.
Ranger Hamza counts, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
READY OR NOT HERE I COME.
Ranger Hamza and the Ramblers play hide and seek in the ruined mill.
(Screaming)
(Music)
Holly covers her eyes.
(Counting)
Ranger Hamza crouches behind a short wall.
(Music)
(Laughing)
(Music)
