A song plays, TO THE MOON AND BACK
Little Malabar says HA-HA!
The song continues, I JUMP ON EVERY PLANET
AND EVERY STAR
C'MON, LET'S GO FAR
EXPLORE THE WHOLE UNIVERSE,
LITTLE MALABAR
The title reads, “Little Malabar. Music by Fred Pallem. Directed by Patrick Volve”
A narrator says, THE FOUR-LEGGED WHALE.
Little Malabar swims through the ocean, around an island with a blue whale
The ocean says, KEEP GOING, SWIMMERS!
YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!
(Little Malabar laughs)
Little Malabar says, YOU WON THE RACE!
(Whale vocalizing)
Little Malabar says, GREAT JOB, WHALE.
The ocean says, LITTLE MALABAR,
YOU SWIM VERY WELL,
BUT WHALE IS MUCH FASTER.
Little Malabar says, YEAH, WHALE'S FASTER
IN THE WATER.
BUT ON THE GROUND,
I'M DEFINITELY THE FASTEST!
WOO-HOO!
Little Malabar kicks off red flippers and runs on the island.
(Panting)
The ocean says, YOU KNOW, A VERY LONG
TIME AGO, WHALE WAS ALSO
FAST ON THE GROUND.
Little Malabar runs around the island as the whale circles it.
Little Malabar says, BUT, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
The ocean says, IT WAS VERY LONG AGO,
50 MILLION YEARS AGO.
WHALE LIVED IN A FOREST
THAT WAS VERY CLOSE TO A RIVER.
Little Malabar hops out from behind a bush in a forest. He walks toward a river.
Little Malabar says, HELLO THERE, RIVER.
I'M LOOKING FOR A WHALE
WHO LIKES TO RACE ON FOOT,
HAVE YOU SEEN HER ANYWHERE?
The river says, MAYBE I HAVE...
A brown animal leaps into the river and drinks.
Little Malabar says, WHOA! WHAT IS THAT?
A DOG, OR A GOAT?
The river says, NOT EITHER ONE.
THAT'S PAKICETUS,
AN ANIMAL THAT LOVES TO RACE!
Little Malabar runs with the Pakicetus.
Little Malabar pants and says, HELLO, PAKICETUS!
(Barking)
Little Malabar says, WOW, YOU'RE SURE FAST!
The Pakicetus leaps onto a log and jumps into another river.
Little Malabar says, AND YOU CAN SWIM TOO?
Little Malabar dives into the river.
Little Malabar says, WAIT FOR ME!
PAKICETUS!
Little Malabar hops onto land beside a tree.
The river says, PAKICETUS LOVED TO SWIM
SO MUCH, THAT, OVER THE AGES,
THE CHILDREN OF ITS CHILDREN
TRANSFORMED.
AND HERE IS AMBULOCETUS!
A long dog-like brown animal with a long snout approaches Little Malabar.
Little Malabar giggles and says, YOU ARE FUNNY.
YOU LOOK LIKE PAKICETUS,
BUT YOU HAVE WEBBED FEET.
THE FIRST ONE TO GET TO THE
OTHER SHORE IS THE WINNER!
LET'S GO!
Little Malabar and the Ambulocetus go into the river
(The Ambulocetus grunts)
Little Malabar and the Ambulocetus swim across the river.
Little Malabar says, PHEW! YOU'RE A GREAT SWIMMER,
AMBULOCETUS!
BUT I'M FASTER ON THE GROUND.
Little Malabar runs past an animal that is similar-looking, but larger than the Ambulocetus.
Little Malabar says, I GOT TO THE OCEAN FIRST!
OH, BUT,
YOU'RE NOT AMBULOCETUS.
YOU'RE BIGGER,
AND YOU WALK VERY SLOWLY.
Little Malabar climbs onto the animal.
The river says, TRUE! THAT'S RHODOCETUS,
AND IT'S MUCH FASTER IN WATER.
Little Malabar says, WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT.
THE FIRST TO GET TO THE ROCK
IS THE WINNER!
Little Malabar dives into the ocean. An animal similar to the Rhodocetus, with dolphin-like features, zooms past Little Malabar and swims in circles around him.
Little Malabar says, BUT YOU'RE NOT RHODOCETUS!
LOOK AT THOSE BIG NOSTRILS
THAT YOU HAVE.
Little Malabar holds the animal’s tailfin as it swims.
The ocean says, THAT'S SO IT CAN BREATHE
WITHOUT TAKING ITS HEAD
OUT OF THE WATER.
AFTER MANY YEARS,
ITS NOW PROTOCETUS.
IT'S MUCH BIGGER!
The Protocetus dives underwater. Little Malabar climbs onto a rock.
Little Malabar says, I GOT TO THE ROCK FIRST.
OH! PROTOCETUS,
YOU CAN'T CLIMB ANYMORE?
I'LL HELP YOU.
Little Malabar struggles to pull the Protocetus onto the rock.
(Little Malabar grunts)
Little Malabar says, WHOA!
The Protocetus slides into the ocean.
Little Malabar says, PROTOCETUS?
The ocean says, PROTOCETUS WILL NEVER WALK
ON THE GROUND AGAIN.
IT'S MUCH MORE AT HOME
IN THE WATER, LIKE ITS
FOLLOWING GENERATIONS!
An animal similar to the Protocetus, but much longer jumps out of the ocean over Little Malabar and the rock.
Little Malabar says, WOW, INCREDIBLE!
Little Malabar stumbles into the ocean.
Little Malabar giggles and says, WHOA!
The ocean says, ITS NAME IS
BASILOSAURUS!
Little Malabar says, WOW, YOU'RE A GIANT,
WITH NO FEET, AND HUGE TEETH!
(The Basilosaurus grunts)
Little Malabar says, A RACE WITH ME?
NO, YOU SWIM TOO FAST!
BUT I'D REALLY LIKE
TO HOLD ON TO YOU.
Little Malabar climbs onto the Basilosaurus’ tailfin.
Little Malabar giggles and says, WOO-HOO!
Little Malabar falls off the Basilosaurus’ tailfin. His red flippers fall off his feet.
Little Malabar says, WOO-HOO, WHOA!
OH, MY FLIPPERS!
WOO-HOO-HOO!
The whale lifts Little Malabar out of the ocean.
Little Malabar says, WHALE, YOU'RE BACK!
(Whale vocalizing)
The ocean says, GREAT JOB, LITTLE MALABAR!
YOU JUST RACED WITH ALL
OF WHALE'S ANCESTORS.
Little Malabar sits on the whale’s head.
Little Malabar giggles and says, LITTLE BY LITTLE,
THEY ALL LOST THEIR FEET
AND YOU WHALE, YOU SURE BECAME
AN EXCELLENT SWIMMER!
AND I EVEN FOUND MY FLIPPERS!
THANKS, BIG WHALE!
Little Malabar rubs the whale’s head lovingly.
The narrator says,
A LONG TIME AGO,
SOME LITTLE FOUR-LEGGED ANIMALS
THAT LIVED ON THE GROUND
BEGAN TO SWIM.
AFTER MANY GENERATIONS,
THEY TRANSFORMED INTO MARINE
MAMMALS, LIKE THE BLUE WHALE.
(Soft electronic music)
End credits.
