Elinor says, YEAH, MOM, I LOVE SUNNY DAYS! THERE ARE SO MANY INTERESTING THINGS TO SEE AND SMELL AND FIND!
Elinor hops after a butterfly. Olive looks at a notebook.
(Giggling)
Olive says, ELINOR, YOU NOTICE INTERESTING THINGS ON ANY KIND OF DAY!
Elinor says, HMM, I NOTICE THINGS ON RAINY DAYS, AND WINDY DAYS AND CLOUDY DAYS... HEY, IT'S TRUE, OLIVE! I NOTICE THINGS ON ALL KINDS OF DAYS!
(Giggling)
(Music playing)
Ari walks up a hill, wiping away sweat.
Ari says, PHEW! WAIT UP, GUYS! HOW DO YOU WALK SO FAST?
Ranger Rabbit says, OH, ARI, YOU LOOK LIKE YOU COULD USE A BREAK. LET'S STOP HERE FOR A MINUTE.
Ranger Rabbit takes off her backpack under the shade of a tree.
Ari says, GOOD, I'M A BIT THIRSTY!
Ranger Rabbit hands Ari a water bottle.
(Gulping)
Ari says, AH, THAT'S BETTER.
Olive holds a bag of food.
(Chomping)
Ari eats and smiles.
(Wind blowing)
Ari says, BRRRR.... I FEEL A LITTLE BIT CHILLY HERE!
Elinor stands in the sunlight.
Elinor says, REALLY? I'M NOT COLD. IT'S NICE AND TOASTY IN THE SUN.
Ari steps out of the shade.
Ari says, WOW, THE SUN CAN REALLY WARM YOU UP!
Olive walks into the shade.
Olive says, YEAH, STANDING IN THE SHADE COOLS YOU DOWN, AND THE SUN WARMS YOU UP.
Olive steps from shade to sunlight and back again.
Olive says, WARM. COOL! WARM. COOL.
Ari says, THAT'S SO NEAT!
Ranger Rabbit calls, OKAY, LET'S KEEP GOING! ARI, ARE YOU FEELING BETTER?
Ari says, YEAH, THANKS, MRS. RABBIT! PARENTS ARE THE BEST!
(Laughing)
Ranger Rabbit says, WHY, THANK YOU, ARI.
Mrs. Beaver says, OH NO, NO, NO, NO... THAT WASN'T THE PLAN...
Ranger Rabbit says, I WONDER WHAT'S GOING ON?
Mrs. Beaver wears a hard hat and looks at a blueprint on a wooden table. A water buffalo and a hippopotamus, both wearing work clothes stand nearby.
Mrs. Beaver says, NOPE, NOPE, NOPE! THAT JUST WON'T DO.
Ranger Rabbit says, HELLO, MRS. BEAVER. IS SOMETHING WRONG?
Mrs. Beaver says, IS SOMETHING WRONG? OH, ONLY EVERYTHING! WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING TODAY. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BUILD A NEW PARK BENCH RIGHT OVER THERE!
She points to a rock by a river. Two green lizards are perched on the rock.
Elinor says, THAT'S A GREAT SPOT FOR A BENCH! IT WOULD HAVE SUCH A NICE VIEW OF THE RIVER.
Ranger Rabbit says, OH, I SEE. THAT ROCK IS IN THE WAY.
Mrs. Beaver says, YEP.
Ari asks, DO YOU NEED HELP MOVING IT? I'M SUPER STRONG, I CAN DO IT!
Mrs. Beaver says, THANKS, ARI, BUT MOVING THE ROCK IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE ARE TWO LIZARDS SITTING ON THE ROCK AND THEY JUST WON'T BUDGE! AND OF COURSE, PARK RULES SAY WE CAN'T BUILD SOMETHING IF THERE ARE ANIMALS THERE. OH, WE'VE TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET THEM TO LEAVE SO WE CAN MOVE THE ROCK AND BUILD OUR BENCH, BUT NOTHING WORKS!
Elinor asks, DID YOU TRY SHOO-ING THEM AWAY?
Mrs. Beaver says, YUP.
Olive asks, DID YOU TRY CALLING THEM TO COME OVER HERE?
Mrs. Beaver says, TRIED IT.
Elinor asks, DID YOU WAVE YOUR ARMS?
Mrs. Beaver says, YES.
Olive asks, DID YOU TRY WHISTLING THEM OVER?
Mrs. Beaver says, YUP.
Ari asks, DID YOU TRY SINGING A SONG AND DOING A SILLY DANCE? LIKE THIS!
Ari waves his wings.
Ari singing, LA, LA, LA, LA, LAAA.... PA-DAM POW-CHHH
Ari looks around.
Ari says, HEY, IT COULD WORK!
(Laughing)
Olive says, OH, ARI! DO THE LIZARDS EVER MOVE?
Mrs. Beaver says, YES, THEY DO LEAVE AT THE END OF THE DAY, BUT BY THEN IT'S TOO DARK FOR US TO WORK!
Elinor asks, WHAT ABOUT IN THE MORNING?
Mrs. Beaver says, EVERY MORNING THEY COME BACK AND CLIMB ON TOP OF THE ROCK AGAIN!
Ranger Rabbit asks, MRS. BEAVER, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT BUILDING THE BENCH IN A DIFFERENT SPOT?
Mrs. Beaver says, A DIFFERENT SPOT? OH, NO, NO, NO, NO! THE PLANS SAY WE HAVE TO BUILD IT THERE! OH, IF WE DON'T FIGURE OUT SOMETHING SOON, WE WON'T BE ABLE TO BUILD THE BENCH!
Ranger Rabbit says, HMM. CAN I TAKE A LOOK AT THE PLANS, MRS. BEAVER?
Mrs. Beaver says, OH, PLEASE DO!
Elinor says, HMM, THAT IS SO INTERESTING! I WONDER WHY THE LIZARDS LIKE THAT ROCK SO MUCH?
Ari says, THERE'S ANOTHER ROCK RIGHT OVER THERE. I WONDER WHY THE LIZARDS LIKE THIS ROCK, AND NOT THAT OTHER ONE?
Olive says, GOOD QUESTION, ARI. IF WE KNEW WHAT THEY LIKED ABOUT THAT ROCK, MAYBE WE COULD FIGURE OUT A WAY TO MOVE THEM TO ANOTHER ROCK!
Elinor says, HMM, IT SOUNDS LIKE WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!
Olive says, YEAH!
Ari says, COOL!
Elinor and the others run closer to the lizards. They stand under a nearby tree.
Elinor asks, OKAY, WHY DO THE LIZARDS LIKE TO SIT ON THAT ROCK SO MUCH?
Olive says, MAYBE THEY LIKE THE VIEW OF THE RIVER?
Ari says, BUT THEY'RE LOOKING THE WRONG DIRECTION.
Elinor and the others sit down on the grass.
Elinor says, MAYBE THEY'RE PLAYING A SUPER LONG GAME OF FREEZE TAG?
Olive says, HMM, BUT THEY DO MOVE. THEY LEAVE AT THE END OF THE DAY AND COME BACK IN THE MORNING. AND I'VE NEVER HEARD OF LIZARDS PLAYING TAG.
Ari says, I WONDER WHAT LIZARDS DO LIKE TO DO?
Elinor says, I KNOW! LET'S LEARN MORE ABOUT LIZARDS. OLIVE, DO YOU HAVE YOUR NATURE BOOK?
Olive says, OF COURSE! IT'S MY FAVOURITE BOOK!
Olive takes a book out of a pink bag strapped across her body.
Olive says, LET'S SEE... LADYBUGS... LEAVES, LILY PADS ... AH, HERE IT IS, LIZARDS! LIZARDS ARE ANIMALS WITH SCALY SKIN. THEY MOSTLY EAT BUGS...
Ari says, CRUNCHY!
(Giggling)
Olive says, AND THEY ALSO EAT WORMS.
Ari says, SLURPY!
(Squealing)
(Elinor laughing)
Olive reads, BUT THEY ALSO LIKE FRUIT!
Ari says, I LIKE FRUIT!
Olive says, AND IT SAYS HERE THAT LIZARDS CAN'T MAKE HEAT ALL BY THEMSELVES. SO THEY NEED THE SUN TO WARM THEMSELVES UP.
Elinor says, THAT IS SO INTERESTING.
Ari says, COOL!
Elinor says, HMM...
(Wind blowing)
Ari says, SPEAKING OF COOL, I'M FEELING A LITTLE CHILLY HERE IN THE SHADE. I'M GONNA MOVE OVER HERE WHERE IT'S SUNNY. AHH, THAT'S BETTER.
Ari stands in the sunlight.
Elinor says, OH... THAT'S IT, IT'S THE SUN! THE LIZARDS MUST LIKE THAT ROCK OVER THERE BECAUSE IT'S IN THE SUN!
Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT! THEY LOOK NICE AND TOASTY OVER THERE.
Ari says, OH, THE ROCK IS WHERE THEY SIT TO GET WARM!
Elinor asks, HMM. BUT WHY DO THEY LEAVE AT THE END OF THE DAY?
Olive says, HMM... I KNOW! THERE IS NO SUN OUT AT THE END OF THE DAY. THAT'S WHY THEY LEAVE!
Elinor says, THAT'S IT! LET'S GO TELL MRS. BEAVER AND MY MOM!
Ari and Elinor run off.
(Music playing)
Olive drops her book.
Olive says, UH-OH.
She puts the book in her bag.
Elinor says, MOM, I THINK WE DISCOVERED SOMETHING! THE LIZARDS LIKE TO SIT ON THAT ROCK BECAUSE IT'S IN THE SUN.
Olive says, LIZARDS USE THE SUN TO WARM THEMSELVES UP.
Ari says, AND THAT OTHER ROCK IS TOO SHADY AND COOL FOR THEM.
Ranger Rabbit says, I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT, KIDS. LIZARDS CAN'T GET WARM BY THEMSELVES, SO THEY LIKE TO SIT IN PLACES THAT GET A LOT OF SUN.
Mrs. Beaver says, HUH, WELL, I'M GLAD WE FIGURED THAT OUT, BUT HOW DO WE GET THEM TO MOVE!?
Elinor says, HMM, WELL, NOW THAT WE KNOW WHY THEY LIKE THAT ROCK, MAYBE WE CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THEM MOVE TO ANOTHER ROCK.
Olive says, YEAH, WE NEED TO GET THE SUN OFF OF THEIR ROCK AND ONTO ANOTHER ROCK.
Ari says, OKAY, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS MOVE THE SUN FROM THERE TO OVER THERE! UH, MR. BUFFALO, CAN YOU MOVE THE SUN?
(Snorting, grunting)
Mr. Buffalo shakes his head.
(Olive giggling)
Olive says, ARI, WE CAN'T MOVE THE SUN!
(Chiming)
Mrs. Beaver says, NO, BUT WE CAN MOVE THAT OTHER ROCK INTO A SUNNY SPOT.
Elinor says, GREAT IDEA! LET'S GO!
Elinor runs to the other rock under the tree. Everyone follows.
Ari says, I'M SUPER STRONG!
Ari pushes against the rock.
(Grunting)
The rock moves.
(Giggling)
Ari turns and sees that Mr. Buffalo and the hippopotamus are pushing the rock beside him.
(All laughing)
Olive says, PERFECT! THAT'S JUST THE WAY LIZARDS LIKE IT. NICE AND SUNNY!
Ari says, WE CAN MAKE IT EVEN NICER FOR THE LIZARDS. LET'S GET THEM SOME SNACKS!
(Music playing)
Ari is in the tree, with Olive and Elinor below.
They move around the rock with the lizards.
Singing, IN THE SUN, IN THE SUN, YOU CAN FEEL WARM AND HAVE MORE FUN. WE WANT TO FIND THE PERFECT SPOT FOR LIZARDS TO FEEL NICE AND HOT WORMS LOOK REALLY GROSS TO EAT BUT LIZARDS THINK THEY'RE QUITE A TREAT IN THE SUN, IN THE SUN YOU CAN FEEL WARM
AND HAVE MORE FUN FEEL WARM AND HAVE MORE FUN!
Elinor says, THE LIZARDS HAVEN'T MOVED.
Mrs. Beaver says, OH, IT DIDN'T WORK! WE WON'T BE ABLE TO BUILD THE PARK BENCH!
Ranger Rabbit says, HMM.
Olive says, BUT WE MADE THEM THE PERFECT SPOT!
Ari says, MAYBE THEY HAVEN'T NOTICED YET?
Elinor says, HEY, LIZARDS, LOOK AT THAT WARM ROCK OVER THERE!
The lizards don’t move. Elinor looks at the others.
Olive calls, IT'S IN THE SUN!
Ari says, CHECK IT OUT! IT'S GOT WORMS AND FRUIT AND IT'S NICE AND WARM!
Olive says, THEY'RE NOT MOVING.
Elinor says, I GUESS THEY LIKE THEIR ROCK.
Ari says, BUT OUR ROCK IS SUNNY AND WARM, TOO!
Ari stands over the other rock and spreads his wings. Elinor stays at Ari.
Elinor says, DON'T MOVE. THAT'S IT! YOUR SHADOW! WE NEED SHADE! GOOD THINKING, ARI!
Ari says, YEAH! UMM... WAIT, WHAT?
Elinor whispers to Ari.
(Whispering)
Ari says, OH, I GET IT! I CAN MAKE SHADE ON THE ROCK TO COOL IT DOWN! LEAVE IT TO ME!
Ari flaps his wings and flies over to the lizards. He hovers above, casting a shadow on the lizards.
Olive says, THEY STILL AREN'T MOVING! IT MUST NOT BE COOL ENOUGH YET.
Ari gasps, I... CAN'T... FLY FOREVER!
The lizards crawl off the rock.
Elinor says, IT'S WORKING.
(Cheering)
Ari says, OH, WE DID IT! WHOO-HOO!
The lizards climb up onto the other rock.
Ranger Rabbit says, THEY MOVED! GOOD JOB, KIDS!
Mrs. Beaver says, OH, THANK YOU! THANK YOU SO MUCH, KIDS! NOW WE CAN BUILD THE BENCH AND FINISH THE PROJECT!
Mr. Buffalo and Olive bump fists.
Elinor says, AND THE LIZARDS CAN STILL STAY WARM ON THEIR NEW ROCK. GOOD JOB, ARI!
Ari says, PHEW!
(Sighing)
Ari says, NOW I'M A BIT HUNGRY TOO!
Olive says, WELL, THE LIZARDS ATE THE FRUIT BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME WORMS LEFT!
Ari says, OKAY, I'M NOT THAT HUNGRY.
(Laughing)
Elinor, Ari, Olive and Tito Mouse are in a classroom.
Elinor asks, WHERE DID MS. MOLE GO? SHE WAS JUST HERE.
Olive asks, ISN'T IT STORY TIME?
Ms. Mole pops up from behind her desk.
Ms. Mole cries, SURPRISE!
(Gasping)
Ms. Mole says, HERE I AM!
(Laughing)
Ms. Mole says, I LOVE IT, BECAUSE TODAY'S STORY TIME IS ABOUT SURPRISES, AND WHAT LIZARDS DO WHEN THEY GET SURPRISED! THIS LIZARD IS ABOUT TO GET A BIG SURPRISE.
Ms. Mole opens a pop-up book on her desk. It shows an animated lizard on a rock.
(Bird screeching)
Ms. Mole says, LOOK OUT, UP IN THE SKY! THERE'S A HAWK!
(Children gasping)
Ms. Mole says, THE HAWK SWOOPS DOWN, BUT THEN SOMETHING SURPRISING HAPPENS. THE LIZARD'S TAIL FALLS OFF!
Ari says, WHOA!
Ms. Mole says, DON'T WORRY, KIDS, OUR LIZARD FRIEND ISN'T HURT. A LIZARD CAN DROP ITS TAIL ON PURPOSE.
Children say, OOH, WOW!
(Screeching)
The hawk in the book lands on the rock beside the lizard’s tail.
Ms. Mole says, THE TAIL WIGGLES SO THAT THE LIZARD CAN ESCAPE.
Elinor asks, IS THE LIZARD OKAY WITHOUT A TAIL?
Ms. Mole says, YES, AND THIS LIZARD HAS ONE MORE SURPRISE FOR YOU. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THE LIZARD GROWS A NEW TAIL.
The children say, WHOA, COOL!
Ms. Mole says, AND THAT'S THE END OF OUR STORY.
Ari sneaks up behind Ms. Mole. She turns and he jumps back.
Ms. Mole yells, BOO!
(Shrieking)
(Laughing)
Ms. Mole says, NICE TRY, ARI, BUT IT'S NOT SO EASY TO SURPRISE THIS OLD MOLE.
Ari says, YOU'RE RIGHT! MS. MOLE, YOU ARE ONE COOL TEACHER, AND YOU WIN...
(Imitating a drum roll)
Ari says, THE SURPRISE PRIZE!
(All laughing)
(Music playing)
It is daytime.
A title reads: Feathers
Elinor narrates, FEATHERS!
Ari runs through a path in a forest. He wears a blue hat. Ari jumps up on a branch.
(Grunting)
Ari holds on with his toes and spins on the branch.
Ari says, WHOO-HOO!
(Giggling)
Ari flies back to the ground.
Ari says, OH YEAH! FLYING IS SO FUN!
Text reads: directed by Kevin Micallef
(Birds chirping)
Ari looks at blue birds flying overhead.
Ari says, HUH?
Text reads: written by Jorge Cham, Daniel Whiteson
(Gasping)
(Music playing)
A blue feather wafts toward Ari.
(Giggling)
Ari says, OH, COOL! A BIRD FEATHER!
(Blowing gently)
Ari says, WOW, THAT'S SO NEAT!
Ari waves the feather.
(Giggling)
Ari gestures with the feather.
Ari says, AHH!
He tickles himself.
(Giggling)
Ari says, YOU'RE MY NEW LUCKY FEATHER!
Ari sticks the feather in his hat.
Ari says, I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW OLIVE AND ELINOR!
(Humming)
Ari walks along the path.
(Children laughing)
Children play outside the school.
Elinor and Olive build a castle in a sandbox. Elinor wears a yellow jacket.
(Humming)
Elinor says, THERE!
(Humming)
Olive says, NICE!
Elinor says, WHAT DO YOU THINK, OLIVE?
Olive says, I THINK OUR SANDCASTLE CAME OUT PRETTY WELL, ELINOR.
Elinor says, YEAH, BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK QUITE DONE YET.
Olive asks, REALLY?
(Children laughing)
(Ari sighing)
Ari says, THERE THEY ARE! THEY'RE GONNA LOVE MY LUCKY FEATHER.
Ari runs toward them.
Olive asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK IT NEEDS?
Elinor says, HMM, I DON'T KNOW. I JUST FEEL LIKE IT'S MISSING SOMETHING.
Ari walks by the sandbox.
Olive asks, WHAT IF WE ADD A TOWER?
Ari says, AWW, THEY DIDN'T NOTICE.
Ari marches by again. Elinor and Olive focus on the sandcastle.
Elinor says, HMM, I DON'T THINK WE NEED ANOTHER ONE.
(Sighing)
Elinor asks, OR MAYBE WE NEED A FLAG?
Olive says, THAT WOULD BE NICE! SOMETHING BRIGHT AND COLOURFUL?
(Ari clearing throat)
Elinor says, OH, HI, ARI! WHEN DID YOU GET HERE?
Ari says, I... NEVER MIND. HI, ELINOR! HI, OLIVE! NOTICE ANYTHING EXTRA COOL ABOUT ME TODAY?
OLIVE and ELINOR say, HMM...
Elinor asks, IS THAT A NEW SHIRT?
Olive says, IT'S A NICE COLOUR.
(Sighing)
Ari says, NO, YOU GUYS! LOOK, ON MY HAT!
Elinor says, WHOA... IS THAT A FEATHER?
Olive says, COOL! IT'S SO BRIGHT AND COLOURFUL. WHERE DID YOU GET IT?
Ari says, WELL, LET ME TELL YOU! I WAS WALKING IN THE FOREST, WHEN SUDDENLY, I HEARD SOMETHING MOVING UP IN THE TREES! AND THEN, THIS FEATHER CAME FLOATING DOWN, AND IT LANDED RIGHT ON MY HEAD!
Olive says, WOW, HOW LUCKY! A BIRD FEATHER!
Ari says, IT IS LUCKY! I CALL IT MY LUCKY FEATHER!
Elinor says, CAN I SEE IT?
(Giggling)
Ari bends his head. Elinor takes the feather and hops around.
Olive says, MY TURN!
Olive holds the feather in her trunk.
(Giggling)
She tosses it on the air and blows on it with her trunk.
(Blowing gently)
Elinor catches the feather.
(Giggling)
Elinor says, IT'S REALLY PRETTY.
Elinor looks closely at the feather.
Elinor says, WOW, IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS LITTLE HAIRS WHEN I BRUSH IT WITH MY FINGER! THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
Ari says, I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT.
Olive says, AND THE COLOURS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!
Ari says, IT WOULD BE COOL IF WE HAD FEATHERS.
Elinor asks, I WONDER, WHY DO BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS? HMM.
Olive says, GOOD QUESTION, ELINOR. HMM. I KNOW, MAYBE BIRDS USE THEIR FEATHERS TO TICKLE EACH OTHER?
Olive tickles Elinor’s ear with the feather.
(Laughing)
Ari says, WAIT, MY PARENTS HAVE PILLOWS WITH FEATHERS IN THEM. MAYBE BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS TO SLEEP ON THEM?
All say, HMM.
Olive says, IT'S A MYSTERY. WHY DO BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS?
Elinor says, I HAVE AN IDEA! LET'S GO LOOK FOR SOME BIRDS AND SEE IF WE CAN FIGURE IT OUT!
Olive says, YES! I'LL GET MY NOTEPAD!
Elinor says, WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!
(Giggling)
Elinor and Olive run off. Ari tucks the feather back into his hat.
(Humming)
(Music playing)
Olive, Ari, and Elinor walk in the woods.
Olive says, THERE SURE ARE LOTS OF BIRDS AROUND HERE!
Elinor says, LET'S WATCH AND OBSERVE THEM!
(Music playing)
Singing, WHY DO BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS?
(Whistling)
Singing, LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHER
(Whistling)
Singing, WE'LL FIND SOME BIRDS, AND TAKE A LOOK WE'LL DRAW WHAT WE NOTICE IN OUR BOOK. WHY DO BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS?
(Whistling)
Singing, LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHER
(Whistling)
Singing, FLYING HIGH, AND SINGING LOUD, WE'LL FIND ANSWERS ALL AROUND. WHY DO BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS?
(Whistling)
Singing, LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHER.
(Whistling)
Singing, OH-OH YEAH
(Music playing)
Elinor and the others look around the forest.
Elinor says, I'LL GO THIS WAY.
Olive says, I'LL GO THAT WAY.
Elinor walks around a tree and looks up.
Olive stares up at a tree.
Olive says, HMM.
Ari walks and turns, looking around.
(Bird chirping)
(Gasping)
A blue bird is in a tree. Ari flies up to the branch it is perched on.
Ari says, HEY, LITTLE BIRDIE! WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT YOUR FEATHERS ARE FOR. CAN YOU TELL ME?
The bird flies off. Ari flaps his wings.
Ari says, HOLD UP, HOLD UP!
>> HMMM.
(Bird chirping)
The bird lands on another branch. Ari clings upside to the tree.
Ari says, YOU HAVE WINGS JUST LIKE I DO. BUT YOURS ARE MADE OUT OF FEATHERS. I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT! BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS TO HELP THEM FLY! I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL OLIVE AND ELINOR!
Olive walks by a river.
(Bird squawking)
(Gasping)
Olive looks at two blue jays on the ground.
Olive says, YOU TWO BIRDS ARE REALLY COLOURFUL! I WONDER IF YOU LIKE BEING BLUE. IT'S MY FAVOURITE COLOUR. OOPS!
The blue bow on Olive’s head slips and she adjusts it with her trunk.
(Giggling)
Olive says, UHHH... THERE WE GO. THAT LOOKS BETTER. HEY! YOU WEAR BLUE ON YOUR HEAD TOO!
Olive looks thoughtful.
Olive says, HMM. I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT! FEATHERS ARE FOR BEING COLOURFUL, JUST LIKE MY BOW! I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL ARI AND ELINOR.
Elinor walks past a hollow log.
(Humming)
She looks around the log at the river.
(Quacking)
Elinor says, OOH...
Two adult ducks and two ducklings float on the water.
(Quacking)
(Laughing)
Elinor says, OOH, PRETTY DUCKS! IT'S A WHOLE DUCK FAMILY!
(Quacking)
The ducks step onto the riverbank by Elinor.
Elinor says, HELLO, DUCK FAMILY! CAN YOU TELL ME WHY BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS?
(Quacking)
The ducks flap their wings.
(Giggling)
Elinor says, THAT WATER MUST BE COLD! BUT YOU ALL LOOK SO NICE AND WARM WITH THOSE SOFT AND COZY FEATHERS. HMM... I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT! BIRDS USE FEATHERS TO STAY WARM! I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL ARI AND OLIVE!
(Music playing)
Children run and laugh in the playground by the school. Ms. Mole sits on the edge of the sandbox.
(Laughing)
Elinor, Ari and Olive run towards each other.
All say, HEY GUYS! I FIGURED IT OUT!
(Cross-talking)
(Giggling)
Elinor says, WAIT, GUYS, ONE AT A TIME!
Ari says, OKAY, I'LL GO FIRST. I THINK BIRDS NEED FEATHERS TO HELP THEM FLY! THEIR WINGS ARE MADE OF FEATHERS!
Elinor says, YEAH.
Olive says, THAT MAKES SENSE. BUT WAIT... I HAVE A DIFFERENT IDEA. I SAW BIRDS THAT HAD BRIGHT BLUE FEATHERS. I THINK BIRDS USE FEATHERS SO THEY CAN BE COLOURFUL.
Ari says, MM-HMM.
Elinor says, MAYBE...
(Ms. Mole chuckling)
Elinor says, BUT I HAVE A DIFFERENT IDEA, TOO! I SAW A DUCK FAMILY COMING OUT OF THE WATER, AND THEIR FEATHERS WERE LIKE A SNUGGLY COAT. I THINK BIRDS USE FEATHERS TO STAY WARM.
Olive says, OKAY.
Ari says, THAT ALSO MAKES SENSE.
Ari says, BUT DEFINITELY FLYING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. THAT MUST BE WHY BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS.
Olive says, BUT IF BIRDS DIDN'T HAVE COLOURFUL FEATHERS, THEY WOULD ALL LOOK THE SAME! I THINK BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS TO HAVE COLOUR.
Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW. IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE FEATHERS, THEY WOULD GET SO COLD! SO I THINK FEATHERS ARE TO STAY WARM.
Ari says, WE HAVE THREE GOOD IDEAS!
Olive asks, WHICH ONE IS THE REAL REASON WHY BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS?
Elinor says, HMM... HOW CAN WE FIGURE IT OUT?
Ms. Mole says, HMM... DO YOU LITTLE SCIENTISTS MIND IF I ASK YOU A FEW QUESTIONS?
Elinor says, SURE, MS. MOLE!
Ms. Mole says, ARI, THAT'S A NICE HAT. WHY DID YOU PICK THAT ONE TODAY?
Ari says, UM, THANKS! IT'S MY FAVOURITE AND IT KEEPS ME WARM!
Ms. Mole says, SO YOU CHOSE YOUR HAT TO KEEP YOU WARM?
Ari says, YEAH. ALSO, IT HAS A SECRET POCKET FOR SNACKS! MMM-MM!
Ms. Mole says OLIVE, WHAT ABOUT YOU? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT SHIRT AND THAT SKIRT?
Olive says, WELL, BLUE IS MY FAVOURITE COLOUR, OF COURSE!
Ms. Mole says, AH! SO YOU CHOSE YOUR CLOTHES BECAUSE OF THE COLOUR?
Olive says, MMM-HMM, I LOVE BLUE!
Ms. Mole asks, AND WHAT ABOUT YOU, ELINOR? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT JACKET?
Elinor says, IT LOOKED LIKE IT MIGHT RAIN THIS MORNING, SO I PICKED THIS RAINCOAT.
Ms. Mole says AH, YES, OF COURSE! SO YOU CHOSE IT TO STAY DRY?
Elinor says, THAT'S RIGHT, MS. MOLE.
Ms. Mole says, GOOD. NOW TELL ME, WHAT'S THE REASON WE WEAR ANY CLOTHES AT ALL?
Elinor says, TO STAY DRY!
Ari says, TO STAY WARM!
Olive says, TO SHOW COLOURS!
Ms. Mole asks, SO, WHICH IS IT? IS THERE JUST ONE REASON?
All three say, THEY'RE ALL GOOD REASONS!
Ms. Mole says, THAT'S RIGHT! SOMETIMES THERE'S MORE THAN ONE REASON FOR SOMETHING! YOUR CLOTHES HELP YOU IN MANY WAYS, JUST LIKE FEATHERS HELP BIRDS IN MANY WAYS.
Elinor says, I GET IT!
Olive says, THERE'S MORE THAN ONE REASON WHY BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS!
Ari says, YEAH, BIRDS HAVE FEATHERS TO FLY AND TO STAY WARM, AND TO BE COLOURFUL!
Elinor says, WE ALL FIGURED IT OUT!
Ms. Mole says, ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT!
The children cry, WHOO-HOO! AWESOME! YAY!
Ari jumps up and the feather falls out of his hat.
Ari says, WHOO-HOO!
(Giggling)
Ari catches the feather.
Ari says, WAIT, I THOUGHT OF ONE MORE THING FEATHERS ARE GOOD FOR. THERE WE GO! THEY'RE ALSO GOOD FOR FINISHING SANDCASTLES!
Ari sticks the feather on the sandcastle.
(Laughing)
Birds fly above.
(Chirping)
(Music playing)
