Text reads: Bird Song

Elinor narrates, Bird Song!

(Bird singing)

It is daytime. A bird sings in a tree. It flies to a window.

Text: directed by Kevin Micallef

Through the window, Elinor sleeps in her bed.

(Bird singing)

The bird flies to a tree branch near the window.

Text: written by Jorge Cham, Daniel Whiteson

Mr. Rabbit sleeps in his bed.

(Snoring)

(Bird singing)

Mr. Rabbit jerks awake.

(Groaning)

Mr. Rabbit says, WHA...? WHAT IS THAT?

(Birdsong stops)

(Sighing)

Mr. Rabbit says, THAT'S BETTER...

(Sighing)

He rolls over and closes his eyes. The bird is perched outside on the branch.

(Bird chirping)

Mr. Rabbit sits up.

Mr. Rabbit says, OH, GEE, OH....

(groaning)

Mr. Rabbit lies back down.

(Sighing)

(Bird singing)

Mr. Rabbit jumps out of bed and falls.

Mr. Rabbit cries, AH! OOH, EEH!

(Groaning)

Mr. Rabbit sits up and pulls a pillow over his head.

(Bird chirping)

The bird flies back to Elinor’s window.

Elinor says, HMMM.

(Bird chirping)

Elinor opens her eyes.

(Yawning)

Elinor asks, WHO'S THAT?

(Bird chirping)

Elinor gets up and walks to her window. She opens it.

Elinor says, OH, GOOD MORNING, LITTLE BIRD! THANK YOU FOR THAT NICE WAKE-UP SONG! I'LL BE OUTSIDE SOON. MAYBE WE CAN PLAY!

(Music playing)

The bird flies down to a kitchen window.

Elinor hops into a kitchen. Ranger Rabbit is at the stove, wearing blue pyjamas.

Elinor says, GOOD MORNING MOM!

Ranger Rabbit says, GOOD MORNING, ELINOR! HOW ARE YOU THIS MORNING?

Elinor sits at a kitchen table.

Elinor says, I'M GREAT, MOM! I JUST HEARD A CUTE LITTLE BIRD SINGING A REALLY PRETTY WAKE-UP SONG.

Ranger Rabbit says, THAT'S GREAT DEAR.

Mr. Rabbit walks into the kitchen. He wears glasses and blue pyjamas.

(Yawning)

Mr. Rabbit says, GOOD MORNING.

Elinor says, MORNING, DAD! DID YOU HEAR THAT CUTE BIRD SINGING THIS MORNING?

(Groaning)

Mr. Rabbit pours coffee into a mug and sits at the table.

Mr. Rabbit says, MMM-HMM. I SURE DID, ELINOR.

Elinor says, WASN'T THE SONG PRETTY?

Mr. Rabbit says, YES... PRETTY LOUD.

(Giggling)

Ranger Rabbit says, DID IT WAKE YOU UP, DEAR? I KNOW YOU WANTED TO SLEEP IN TODAY.

Mr. Rabbit says, WELL, I TRIED TO GO BACK TO SLEEP BUT I COULDN'T. WHY DO BIRDS HAVE TO SING RIGHT OUTSIDE MY WINDOW?

(Sighing)

Elinor says, GOOD QUESTION, DAD! HMM... AND WHY DO BIRDS SING ANYWAY? HMM... INTERESTING. LIZARDS DON'T SING. PLANTS DON'T SING. SOME BUGS MAKE NICE SOUNDS, BUT I DON'T THINK THEY SING.

Mr. Rabbit says, OH, THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT!

He sips from the mug.

(Sighing)

Elinor asks, SO WHY DO BIRDS SING?

Ranger Rabbit says, THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION, ELINOR! WHY DO YOU THINK BIRDS SING?

Elinor says, HMM... MAYBE THEY'RE PRACTICING TO GIVE A BIG SINGING CONCERT SOMEWHERE?

(Chuckling)

Ranger Rabbit says, THAT IS A FUN IDEA. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF BIRDS GIVING A CONCERT?

Elinor says, NO, YOU'RE RIGHT. BIRDS DON'T GIVE CONCERTS. SO WHY DO THEY SING?

Mr. Rabbit says, MAYBE THEY JUST LIKE WAKING UP SLEEPING BUNNIES?

(All laughing)

Elinor says, IF I FIGURE OUT WHY BIRDS SING, THEN MAYBE I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO KEEP THEM FROM WAKING YOU UP DAD!

Mr. Rabbit says, THANK YOU, ELINOR. THAT'S THE BEST IDEA I'VE HEARD ALL MORNING.

Elinor says, HMM... I NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!

Ranger Rabbit says, THEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE THESE BINOCULARS. THEY'RE GOOD FOR WATCHING BIRDS.

Ranger Rabbit hands Elinor a pair of orange and green binoculars.

Elinor says, OK, I'M GOING TO FIGURE OUT THIS MYSTERY! THANKS FOR THE BREAKFAST, MOM! SEE YOU LATER, DAD!

(Snoring)

Elinor asks, DAD?

Mr. Rabbit rests his head on the table. His eyes are closed.

(Snoring, muttering)

Elinor walks over to him.

Elinor whispers, DON'T WORRY, DAD. I'LL FIGURE THIS OUT FOR YOU.

(Music playing)

Elinor walks outside, carrying the binoculars. She walks along a path towards the woods.

(Birds singing)

Elinor says, OKAY, LET'S FIND SOME BIRDS AND MAKE SOME OBSERVATIONS!

Elinor looks through the binoculars. She holds them the wrong ways.

(Music playing)

Elinor says, HMM, THAT DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT. THESE ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE THINGS LOOK CLOSER, NOT FARTHER AWAY! OH.

(Giggling)

Elinor flips the binoculars around.

Elinor says, OOPS! THAT'S BETTER! HMM...

Elinor looks at trees through the binoculars. A butterfly flutters past.

(Gasping)

Elinor says, OOH!

(GIGGLING)

Elinor says, HELLO, BUTTERFLY. OOOH. THERE'S A CUTE LITTLE BIRD.

A red bird is perched on a branch.

Elinor says, SING FOR ME, BIRDIE! HUH? WHAT'S THAT?

A pair of eyes fill the binoculars.

Ari says, HI, ELINOR! WHATCHA DOING?

Ari and Olive stand near Elinor.

(Giggling)

Elinor says, HI, ARI. HI, OLIVE!

Olive says, HI, ELINOR!

Elinor says, I'M USING THESE BINOCULARS TO LOOK FOR BIRDS. I'M TRYING TO ANSWER A QUESTION!

Olive says, COOL! UH, WHAT'S THE QUESTION?

Elinor says, I WANT TO KNOW WHY BIRDS SING! PLANTS DON'T SING, LIZARDS DON'T SING. WHY DO BIRDS SING?

Ari says, UH, OF COURSE BIRDS SING! THEY ARE BIRDS!

Elinor asks, BUT WHY DO THEY SING, ARI?

Ari says, OH! HUH! UH... I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT BEFORE. YOU'RE RIGHT, I DON'T KNOW!

Olive says, WE'LL HELP YOU, ELINOR. LET'S ALL SOLVE THE MYSTERY TOGETHER!

Ari says, YEAH!

Elinor says, OKAY! WE'LL ALL WATCH THE BIRDS AND TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MAKES THEM SING.

The children look around at the trees.

(Birds singing)

Ari whispers, THERE'S ONE THAT WAY!

Olive says, I HEARD ONE THIS WAY!

Elinor says, I THINK THERE'S ONE OVER THERE.

(Birds singing)

Elinor says, HUH. THERE ARE A LOT OF BIRDS IN THE FOREST.

Olive says, LET'S SPLIT UP! I'LL LOOK FOR BIRDS OVER HERE...

Ari says, AND I'LL LISTEN FOR SOME OVER THERE!

Elinor says, GREAT IDEA! NOW WE CAN GET MORE OBSERVATIONS!

(Music playing)

Elinor walks through the forest.

Elinor says, OKAY, BIRDS, I'M READY, LET'S HEAR SOME SONGS!

(Birds singing)

Elinor looks through the binoculars.

(Gasping)

A robin is perched on a branch, near a nest.

(Bird chirping)

Elinor says, HMM, YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING.

(Chirping)

Elinor says, OOH, ANOTHER BIRD. THEY SOUND KIND OF THE SAME. I WONDER IF THEY KNOW EACH OTHER?

Elinor looks at a bird with dark feathers and a white belly.

Elinor says, HI, CUTE LITTLE BIRD! YOU LOOK LIKE A BABY VERSION OF THE OTHER BIRD! YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TOO.

(Chirping)

Elinor says, HEY, YOU MUST BE THE MAMA BIRD! ARE YOU LOOKING FOR YOUR BABY?

The robin flies to another branch.

(Chirping)

Elinor calls, YES, YOUR BABY IS OVER THERE!

(Chirping)

The robin flies to the smaller bird.

Elinor says, YAY, YOU FOUND EACH OTHER! HMM.

(Rustling branches)

Ari peeks out from behind a rock.

Ari calls, OLIVE!? WHERE ARE YOU?

Elinor looks around.

Olive hops out from behind a bush.

Olive calls, I'M OVER HERE! WHO'S CALLING ME?

Ari shouts, IT'S ME ARI!

Olive looks around.

Olive asks, ARI?

Ari says, YES!

Olive calls, WHERE ARE YOU?

Ari calls, HERE!

Olive asks, WHERE'S HERE?

Ari says, I'M RIGHT NEXT TO A TREE!

Elinor looks back and forth as Olive and Ari call to each other.

Olive asks, WHICH TREE?

Ari says, THE ONE BESIDE ME.

Olive asks, BESIDES YOU WHERE?

Elinor says, HMM...

Olive asks, WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

Ari says, UH, IT'S TALL, WITH A BUNCH OF LEAVES.

Olive says, THAT SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE TREE I'M STANDING NEXT TO.

Olive walks toward Elinor.

(Birds singing)

Ari turns.

Ari says, OH, I SEE YOU!

Olive says, I SEE YOU TOO!

Elinor says, GUYS, I THINK I'VE FIGURED IT OUT! I THINK I KNOW WHY BIRDS SING.

Ari asks, WHAT? ALREADY?

Olive says, YEAH, WE HAVEN'T SEEN A LOT OF BIRDS YET.

Elinor says, YOU TWO HELPED ME FIGURE IT OUT!

Both say, WE DID?

Elinor says, I WAS LOOKING AROUND, AND THEN I SAW A MAMA BIRD TRYING TO FIND HER BABY BIRD.

(Bird chirping)

Olive says, AWWW!

Elinor says, BOTH BIRDS WERE SINGING, AND THEN I REALIZED THEY WERE DOING THE SAME THING YOU AND ARI WERE DOING!

Ari asks, THEY WERE?

Elinor says, YES! THEY WERE TALKING TO FIND EACH OTHER!

Ari asks, WAIT, AM I SUPPOSED TO BE A BABY BIRD?

(Olive giggling)

Olive says, NO, ELINOR MEANS THE BIRDS CALLED TO EACH OTHER WITH THEIR SINGING THE WAY WE DID WITH OUR WORDS.

Elinor says, MMM-HMM.

Ari says, OH YEAH! WHEN WE COULDN'T FIND EACH OTHER!

Elinor says, BIRDS USE SINGING TO TALK TO EACH OTHER! THAT'S WHY THEY SING!

Ari says, OHHH... I GET IT. IT'S BIRD TALK!

Elinor says, YES! THAT IS SO INTERESTING!

(Music playing)

All singing, WE KNOW IT'S TRUE, BIRDS LIKE TO SING, BUT WHY DO THEY SING? IT'S FOR LOTS OF THINGS A SINGING BIRD CAN SAY, "HOW DO YOU DO!" OR "THIS IS MY TREE", OR EVEN "I LOVE YOU." BIRDS LIKE TO SING AND NOW WE CAN SEE! THEY'RE TALKING TO EACH OTHER, JUST LIKE YOU AND ME!

Elinor balances on Olive and Ari’s shoulders.

All say, WHOA!

They wobble and fall over.

(Grunting)

(Giggling)

They get to their feet.

Ari says, WE SOLVED THE MYSTERY!

Olive says, WE KNOW WHY BIRDS SING!

Elinor says, HMMM... AND THAT GIVES ME AN IDEA TO HELP MY DAD.

(Music playing)

It is nighttime at Elinor’s house.

(Owl hooting, crickets chirping)

It is morning.

(Bird singing)

A bird hops onto the branch outside Mr. Rabbit’s window. He is asleep inside.

(Snoring)

(Whistles imitating bird)

Elinor stands below the tree. She whistles up at the bird.

(Whistling)

Elinor whispers, COME ON, LITTLE BIRD.

(Whistling)

Elinor says, LET'S GO SING SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Elinor hops in her backyard.

(Whistling)

The bird flies after her.

(Bird singing)

(Music playing)

Elinor says, SLEEP WELL, DAD!

Elinor walks away from the house.

(Whistling)

(Birds singing)

Mr. Rabbit snuggles into his pillows and smiles.

(Sighing)

Mr. Rabbit says, AH!

(Alarm clock blaring)

Mr. Rabbit falls out of bed.

Mr. Rabbit cries, OOH, NO! AW! OH GEE...

Mr. Rabbit buries his face in the bed.

Elinor sits under a tree with the bird perched on her finger.

(Whistling)

(Bird singing)

(Music playing)

It is daytime. Senor Tapir wears a hat. He sits on a log, holding a guitar. Elinor and five other children sit on the ground around him.

Senor Tapir says, LET'S SING ABOUT A SCIENTIST NAMED IRENE PEPPERBERG AND HER TALKING BIRD WHO KNEW MORE THAN 100 WORDS. WORDS SUCH AS "TWO" AND "BLUE".

(Music playing)

Senor Tapir singing, THIS IS A SONG ABOUT A SCIENTIST WHO WONDERED IF BIRDS COULD TALK LIKE WE DO. HER NAME IS IRENE PEPPERBERG AND ALEX THE PARROT WAS HER SPECIAL BIRD, IRENE WONDERED IF SHE COULD SHOW THAT ALEX COULD SAY A LOT MORE THAN "HELLO." SHE SAID, "WHAT COLOUR?" HE SAID "BLUE." SHE , "HOW MANY?" HE SAID "TWO." WHAT A BIRD! "OH, WHAT A BIRD,"SAID SCIENTIST IRENE PEPPERBERG. WHAT COLOUR'S BIGGER? HE SAID "RED." WHAT DO YOU WANT? HE SAID, "YUMMY" AND "BREAD." SHAPES AND COLOURS AND COUNTING TO EIGHT. ALEX COULD REALLY COMMUNICATE. WHAT A BIRD. "OH, WHAT A BIRD," SAID SCIENTIST IRENE PEPPERBERG. SO MANY WORDS, SO MANY WORDS. HER BIRD KNEW OVER 100 WORDS.

(Children cheering)

(Music playing)

A title reads: No Need To Shout

Elinor narrates, NO NEED TO SHOUT!

It is daytime. Elinor stands on a stump, facing Olive and Ari.

Elinor asks, OKAY, ARE YOU READY?

Olive says, READY!

Text reads: directed by Kevin Micallef

Elinor taps a stick on the stump and raises the stick.

Elinor says, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO THE FIRST EVER PERFORMANCE OF A NEW SONG BY ELINOR, ARI, AND OLIVE, CALLED "THE FEELINGS SONG."

Text reads: written by Kate Barris

(Humming)

(Music playing)

Ari and Olive singing, IF YOU FEEL...

Elinor shouts, GLAD!

Ari and Olive singing, LET ME KNOW YOU'RE GLAD, AND WE'LL BE GLAD TOGETHER! IF YOU FEEL...

Elinor shouts, SAD!

Ari and Olive singing, LET ME KNOW YOU'RE SAD AND I'LL TRY TO MAKE IT BETTER IF YOU FEEL...

Elinor says, SILLY!

Ari and Olive singing, LET ME KNOW YOU'RE SILLY AND WE'LL LAUGH AND GIGGLE TOGETHER.

Olive singing, SO ALWAYS LET YOUR FEELINGS OUT.

Ari singing, SMILE OR FROWN OR GIGGLE OR SHOUT.

Elinor singing, 'CAUSE I CAN BE A FRIEND FOR REAL...

All singing, IF I KNOW JUST HOW YOU FEEL! IF I KNOW JUST HOW YOU FEEEEEEEL!

Olive says, WOW! EVERYONE'S GOING TO LOVE OUR SONG.

Ari says, YEAH! I CAN'T WAIT TO SING IT TO MS. MOLE AND THE WHOLE CLASS TOMORROW.

Elinor says, I WANT IT TO BE PERFECT, SO I'M GOING TO PRACTICE AND PRACTICE AND PRACTICE.

Olive says, DON'T FORGET WHAT MS. MOLE SAID: "IF YOU PRACTICE TOO MUCH, YOU MIGHT LOSE YOUR VOICE."

Ari says, MY DAD LOST HIS VOICE ONCE. HE COULDN'T TALK FOR A WHOLE DAY.

Elinor says, I'M JUST SO EXCITED, I CAN'T STOP SINGING. SEE YOU TOMORROW.

Olive and Ari call, BYE.

(Music playing)

Elinor sits at a table with Ranger Rabbit and Mr. Rabbit.

Elinor singing, IF YOU FEEL GLAD LET ME KNOW YOU'RE GLAD AND WE'LL BE GLAD TOGETHER.

Elinor sits at a desk.

Elinor singing. IF YOU FEEL SAD, LET ME KNOW YOU'RE SAD…

Elinor is in a bubble bath.

Elinor singing, AND I'LL TRY TO MAKE IT BETTER!

Elinor pulls on pyjamas.

Elinor singing, IF YOU FEEL SILLY... LET ME KNOW YOU'RE SILLY AND WE'LL LAUGH AND GIGGLE TOGETHER!

Elinor brushes her teeth.

Elinor singing around toothbrush, SO ALWAYS LET YOUR FEELINGS OUT.

Elinor reads on her bed.

Elinor singing, A SMILE OR A FROWN OR A GIGGLE AND SHOUT 'CAUSE I CAN BE A FRIEND FOR REAL...

It is nighttime. Elinor is tucked into her bed.

Elinor singing, IF I KNOW JUST HOW YOU FEEL! IF I KNOW JUST HOW YOU FEEEEEEEL!

It is daytime. Olive and Ari walk to the front door of the Rabbit house.

(Knocking)

Ari opens the door. Her ears droop.

Ari says, HI, ELINOR! ARE YOU READY TO SING OUR SONG IN CLASS TODAY?

(Groaning)

Olive asks, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR VOICE?

Ari asks, DO YOU HAVE A COLD?

Elinor shakes her head.

Olive asks, THEN WHY DOES YOUR VOICE SOUND SCRATCHY LIKE THAT?

Elinor shrugs.

Ari says, WAIT A SECOND. DID YOU PRACTICE OUR SONG ALL NIGHT?

(Olive gasping)

Elinor nods.

Olive says, OH! YOU PRACTICED SO MUCH YOU LOST YOUR VOICE!

Elinor nods.

Ari says, WHAT ABOUT OUR SONG? WE TOLD MS. MOLE WE'D SING IT TODAY.

Olive says, WE CAN'T SING THE SONG WITHOUT YOU. WE MADE IT UP TO SING TOGETHER.

Ari says, RIGHT. IF YOU DON'T SING, WE DON'T SING.

Elinor smiles.

Ari says, IF YOU LOST YOUR VOICE FROM ALL THAT PRACTICING, MAYBE YOU JUST NEED TO GIVE IT A REST.

Elinor nods.

Ari says, SPEAKING OF TIME... WE'D BETTER ACTUALLY GET TO SCHOOL.

Ari and the others hurry down porch steps. The walk on a path through the woods.

(Bird singing)

Ari says, LOOK! THERE'S MR. DOG! HI, MR. DOG!

(Gasping)

Mr. Dog walks toward them. He wears a tan jacket and a green tie.

Mr. Dog says, OH, GOOD MORNING, KIDS! HOW NICE TO SEE YOU!

His tail wags.

(Giggling)

Ari says, MR. DOG! YOUR TAIL IS TICKLING ME!

(Chuckling)

Mr. Dog says, OOPS! SORRY, ARI! I CAN'T HELP IT! WAGGING OUR TAIL IS THE WAY WE DOGS SHOW WE'RE HAPPY. AND I'M HAPPY TO SEE YOU!

(Giggling)

Olive says, WE'RE HAPPY TO SEE YOU TOO.

(Laughing)

Ari says, YEAH. EXCEPT I DON'T HAVE A TAIL TO WAG.

(Chuckling)

Mr. Dog says, OH. YOU'RE AWFULLY QUIET TODAY, ELINOR.

(Croaking)

Olive says, WE MADE UP A NEW SONG, AND ELINOR PRACTICED IT SO MUCH LAST NIGHT, THAT HER VOICE GOT LOST.

Ari says, YEAH, AND WE'RE SUPPOSED TO SING IT FOR THE WHOLE CLASS, BUT WE CAN'T UNLESS ELINOR GETS HER VOICE BACK.

Mr. Dog says, OH, ELINOR! AFTER ALL THAT PRACTICING, YOU MUST BE DISAPPOINTED YOU CAN'T SING YOUR SONG.

Elinor nods.

Ari says, HEY! YOUR TAIL STOPPED WAGGING AND TICKLING ME.

Olive says, AND YOUR EARS WENT DOWN TOO. IS THAT BECAUSE YOU'RE SAD FOR ELINOR?

Mr. Dog says, MY EARS DO SHOW HOW I'M FEELING. BUT I DON'T FEEL SAD FOR ELINOR. I JUST UNDERSTAND HOW SHE FEELS. DOGS ARE VERY EMPATHETIC.

Olive says, AND WE UNDERSTAND HOW YOU FEEL, EVEN WHEN YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING. EVERYONE KNOWS HOW YOU'RE FEELING, BECAUSE THEY SEE YOUR TAIL AND EARS. AS ELINOR WOULD SAY, "THAT'S SO INTERESTING!"

(Laughing)

Mr. Dog says, WELL, I'D BETTER GET BACK TO MY WORK. I HOPE YOU ALL GET TO PERFORM YOUR SONG... ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!

The children wave.

Ari calls, BYE MR. DOG!

(Music playing)

Elinor and the others walk along the path.

Mrs. Bat calls, ARI! ARI! YOU FORGOT YOUR LUNCH!

Mrs. Bat runs along the path. She carries a baby and a lunchbox.

Ari says, WHOA! I FORGOT MY LUNCH? HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN?

Mrs. Bat says, YOU WERE SO EXCITED ABOUT SINGING YOUR SONG. ARE YOU TWO AS EXCITED ABOUT THE SONG AS ARI IS?

Olive says, WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SING OUR SONG TODAY. ELINOR LOST HER VOICE.

Ari says, SHE'S GIVING HER VOICE A REST. WE HOPE MAYBE SHE'LL GET IT BACK BEFORE THE END OF THE DAY.

Mrs. Bat says, THAT'S A GOOD PLAN, ELINOR.

(Baby crying)

Olive asks, AW! WHAT'S WRONG WITH BABY MIRI?

Ari says, says, SHE'S JUST HUNGRY. SHE ALWAYS GOES LIKE THIS WHEN SHE'S HUNGRY.

Ari waves his arms.

Ari says, DON'T YOU, LITTLE SIS.

(Growling playfully)

Ari tickles the baby.

(Baby giggling)

Ari says, AND WHEN SHE RUBS HER EYES, IT MEANS SHE'S TIRED, RIGHT MOM?

Mrs. Bat says, THAT'S RIGHT. I'D BETTER GET HER HOME FOR HER SNACK AND A NAP! I HOPE ELINOR'S VOICE GETS BETTER IN TIME TO SING YOUR SONG. BYE!

Ari and the others keep walking.

Olive says, WOW. YOU SURE KNOW A LOT ABOUT BABIES, ARI.

Ari says, I JUST KNOW A LOT ABOUT MY BABY SISTER. I CAN TELL WHAT SHE WANTS, EVEN THOUGH SHE CAN'T TALK YET.

Olive says, THE SAME WAY WE COULD TELL HOW MR. DOG FELT WHEN HIS TAIL WAS WAGGING AND HIS EARS DROOPED DOWN.

Elinor tugs Olive’s shirt.

Olive asks, HUH? WHAT IS IT ELINOR? DID YOU GET YOUR VOICE BACK?

Elinor waves her finger and taps her head.

Ari says, YOU HAVE A HEADACHE? OH, YOUR FINGER HURTS?

Elinor gestures.

Olive asks, UH... YOU HAVE AN IDEA?

Elinor nods.

Ari says, ALL RIGHT, WHAT'S YOUR IDEA? WHAT'S SHE DOING?

Elinor points to Ari and Olive. She mimes singing.

Olive says, OH! YOU WANT US TO SING OUR SONG?

Ari says, BUT WE ALREADY SAID WE DON'T WANT TO SING THE SONG WITHOUT YOU.

Elinor points at the other and then at herself.

Olive asks, YOU WANT US TO LOOK AT YOU?

Elinor nods. She smiles and points to her smile.

Olive asks, YOU'RE HAPPY?

Elinor nods. She makes a sad face.

Ari says, BUT NOW YOU'RE SAD. I DON'T GET IT.

Olive says, I THINK I DO! WE CAN TELL HOW ELINOR IS FEELING BY THE LOOK ON HER FACE.

Ari says, O...KAY?

Elinor wiggles her tail.

Olive says, UH-HUH! JUST LIKE WE COULD TELL MR. DOG WAS HAPPY WHEN HE WAGGED HIS TAIL!

Elinor mimes rocking a baby, then rubs her eyes.

Ari says, AND THE WAY LITTLE MIRI LET US KNOW SHE WAS TIRED BY RUBBING HER EYES.

Olive says, EXACTLY! THAT IS SO INTERESTING!

Ari says, WAIT, I DON'T GET IT.

Olive says, ELINOR'S FIGURED OUT A WAY TO SING OUR SONG, EVEN IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE HER VOICE! COME ON.

(Music playing)

They run to where Ms. Mole sits reading on a rock.

Olive and Ari call, MS. MOLE! MS. MOLE!

Ms. Mole says, OH! GOOD MORNING, MY FINE SINGING STUDENTS. ARE YOU ALL READY TO SING YOUR NEW FEELINGS SONG FOR THE CLASS?

Ari says, WELL, WE THOUGHT WE WEREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO SING OUR SONG.

Olive says, BECAUSE ELINOR PRACTICED SO MUCH, SHE LOST HER VOICE.

Elinor nods.

Ari says, AND WE DIDN'T WANT TO SING "THE FEELINGS SONG" WITHOUT ELINOR.

Olive says, BUT THEN WE MADE SOME OBSERVATIONS.

Ms. Mole says, YOU DID? WELL, GOOD FOR YOU! WHAT DID YOU OBSERVE?

Elinor spins around and wiggles her tail.

(Laughing)

Ms. Mole says, I... I AM NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND.

Olive says, WE OBSERVED THAT WHEN MR. DOG WAGGED HIS TAIL, THAT MEANT HE WAS HAPPY.

(Laughing)

Ms. Mole says, OKAY?

Olive says, SO EVEN IF HE DIDN'T TALK TO US, WE COULD TELL HOW HE FELT.

Ari says, YEAH, AND THEN WE OBSERVED MY LITTLE SISTER... AND I KNEW SHE WAS HUNGRY BECAUSE WHEN SHE'S HUNGRY, SHE ALWAYS DOES THIS...

All three move their arms.

(Laughing)

Ari says, SO, WE KNEW HOW SHE FELT!

Olive says, AND THAT GAVE ELINOR...

Both shout, AN IDEA!

Ari says, EVEN IF YOU CAN'T USE YOUR VOICE, THERE ARE STILL WAYS TO SHOW YOUR FRIENDS HOW YOU FEEL, OR WHAT YOU'RE THINKING.

Olive says, YEAH. BY THE WAY YOUR FACE LOOKS, OR YOUR BODY MOVES. SO ELINOR HELPED US REALIZE WE CAN SING OUR SONG...

Both shout, WITH ELINOR!

Elinor smiles.

She, Olive and Ari stand at the front of a classroom.

Ms. Mole says, AND NOW, ARI, OLIVE, AND ELINOR ARE GOING TO PRESENT "THE FEELINGS SONG!"

Olive says, ARI AND I ARE GOING TO SING, BUT ELINOR'S GOING TO SHOW THE FEELINGS INSTEAD OF SINGING THEM.

Ari says, YEAH AND IF YOU CAN TELL WHAT SHE'S FEELING, YOU CAN JOIN IN!

Ari and Olive singing, IF YOU FEEL...

Elinor smiles.

Sally says, SHE LOOKS... HAPPY?

Mary says, OR GLAD!

Olive says, YOU BETCHA!

(Music playing)

Singing, IF YOU FEEL... GLAD! LET ME KNOW YOU'RE GLAD, AND WE'LL BE GLAD TOGETHER! IF YOU FEEL...

Elinor makes a sad face.

Mary asks, NOW SHE'S... SAD?

Olive says, PERFECT!

Elinor gestures as Ari and Olive sing.

Singing, IF YOU FEEL... SAD! LET ME KNOW YOU'RE SAD AND I'LL TRY TO MAKE IT BETTER IF YOU FEEL... SILLY! LET ME KNOW YOU'RE SILLY AND WE'LL LAUGH AND GIGGLE TOGETHER SO ALWAYS LET YOUR FEELINGS OUT. SMILE OR FROWN OR GIGGLE OR SHOUT 'CAUSE I CAN BE A FRIEND FOR REAL... IF I KNOW JUST HOW YOU FEEL! IF I KNOW JUST HOW YOU FEEEEEEEL!

(Cheering)

Ms. Mole says, THAT WAS A WONDERFUL! THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US THERE ARE A LOT OF WAYS TO COMMUNICATE HOW WE FEEL! IT'S IMPORTANT TO COMMUNICATE IN MANY WAYS.

Olive says, I THINK OUR SONG WAS EVEN BETTER WITH ELINOR SHOWING THE FEELINGS.

Ari says, ME TOO. WHAT DO YOU THINK ELINOR?

Elinor whispers, I FEEL...

Elinor wiggles her tail.

Ari says, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY HOW YOU FEEL ELINOR... WE CAN TELL.

(Giggling)

Ari says, YOU FEEL VERY...

Olive says, VERY...

Ari says, HAPPY!

(Laughing)
