AND WHERE DO THEY HIDE?
THERE'S SO MUCH TO LEARN
WHEREVER YOU TURN
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
AND FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.
[Chiming]
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME.
Text above Elinor reads, “Elinor Wonders Why.” A magnifying glass with pink bunny ears replaces the letter ‘O’ in Elinor’s name.
Blue text reads, “Follow That Roly Poly.”
Elinor says, “FOLLOW THAT ROLY POLY.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WELCOME, EXPLORERS
OLIVE, ARI, SALLY, AND TITO. IT'S
TIME FOR THE EXPLORERS' PLEDGE.
Elinor, Olive, Ari, Sally and Tito say,
AN EXPLORER IS BRAVE.
AN EXPLORER IS KIND.
AN EXPLORER IS CURIOUS.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND?
[Cheering]
Tito says, WOW, I CAN'T WAIT TO
GO ON AN EXPLORER ADVENTURE.
I'LL BE BRAVE AND KIND AND...
UM... WHAT DOES CURIOUS MEAN?
Elinor replies, GOOD QUESTION, TITO.
CURIOUS MEANS YOU REALLY WANT
TO FIND OUT ABOUT NEW THINGS.
Olive says, YEP, WE EXPLORERS ARE
VERY CURIOUS, SO WE ASK A LOT
OF QUESTIONS.
Tito says, FUN. UH... WHAT KIND
OF QUESTIONS?
Ari replies, ANY KIND OF QUESTION,
LIKE THE ONE YOU JUST ASKED.
Tito says, OH.
[Giggling]
Tito cheers, YAY ME!
[Everyone cheers and laughs]
Elinor says, OKAY, EXPLORERS.
NOW THAT WE'VE SAID OUR
PLEDGE, IT'S TIME FOR THE BEST
PART OF THE CLUB: EXPLORING!
[Olive gasps, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, FOLLOW ME!
Tito says, THIS IS SO EXCITING!
WHERE ARE WE GOING TO
EXPLORE TODAY?
Elinor says, HMM... WELL, THAT
DEPENDS ON WHAT WE WANT
TO SEE.
Olive says, I'D LIKE TO SEE SOME
INTERESTING NEW PLANTS.
Ari says, I WANT TO SEE COOL NEW
ANIMALS, LIKE LIZARDS OR BUGS.
Sally says, I JUST WANT TO FIND
SOME STICKS.
Ari says, HUH?
Sally says, WHAT?
I LOVE STICKS.
Elinor says, WELL, I WANT TO BE
LIKE THE GREAT EXPLORERS.
EXPLORING THE SEA... OR A
JUNGLE... OR EVEN A NEW CITY!
Elinor imagines sailing on a ship and walking through a jungle.
[Popping, wind blows, bird calls]
Ari says, UH, ELINOR, I DON'T
THINK WE CAN GO THAT FAR.
Olive says, MY MOM SAID WE'RE
SUPPOSED TO STAY AROUND THE
WOODS NEAR THE CLUBHOUSE.
Titao says, YEAH, AND I'M
SUPPOSED TO BE HOME FOR LUNCH.
[Sigh]
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
BUT WE CAN STILL EXPLORE!
COME ON!
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor, Olive, Ari, Sally and Tito sing,
LET'S GO EXPLORING,
EXPLORING, EXPLORING.
LET'S GO EXPLORING,
EXPLORING, EXPLORING.
Ari steps on a stick and knocks a round purple object into the air.
Ari says, WHOA! HUH?
SOMETHING HIT ME.
Olive says, I SAW IT. I THINK IT
WAS THAT LITTLE ROCK.
Ari says, YEP, THAT MUST BE IT.
Olive says, WHOA.
Elinor asks, WHAT ARE YOU
ALL LOOKING AT?
Olive says, A ROCK.
[Gentle music plays]
Elinor repeats, A ROCK?
BUT EXPLORERS, WE HAVE
SO MUCH MORE TO EXPLORE!
NEW PLANTS, NEW ANIMALS,
A JUNGLE, THE SEA, A NEW CITY,
AND-- AND STICKS.
Ari says, YEAH, BUT THIS IS A
REALLY COOL ROCK, ELINOR.
LOOK!
Elinor says, OH! YOU'RE RIGHT, ARI.
I'VE NEVER SEEN A ROCK LIKE THIS
ONE BEFORE.
IT'S TINY AND ROUND, AND IT
HAS LOTS OF LINES ON IT.
Ari says, WAIT A MINUTE.
IS THIS ROCK MOVING?
A purple bug unrolls itself in Ari’s palm.
Tito says, I THOUGHT ROCKS DON'T
MOVE. RIGHT?
Elinor says, WE NEED
MORE OBSERVATIONS.
[Gasp]
Elinor says, IT HAS LEGS!
Tito says, A ROCK WITH LEGS?
I'M SCARED!
Olive says, YOU DON'T HAVE
TO WORRY, TITO. EXPLORERS
ARE BRAVE, REMEMBER?
Tito says, OH, YEAH.
Elinor says, YOU KNOW WHAT?
THIS ISN'T A ROCK AT ALL.
IT LOOKS LIKE SOME KIND
OF BUG.
Ari says, THAT IS SO COOL!
Olive looks at the bug through a magnifying glass.
Olive says, IT HAS ONE, TWO, THREE,
FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN PAIRS OF LEGS.
HMM... LET ME CHECK MY NATURE BOOK.
[Pages rustle]
Olive says, HMM... OKAY, SO...
HMM... FOREST ANIMALS.
OH, I THINK WE FOUND A
ROLY-POLY.
LISTEN TO THIS.
"ROLY-POLIES, OR PILL BUGS,
ACTUALLY AREN'T BUGS AT ALL."
Ari and Elinor say, HUH?
[Gentle music plays]
Olive reads, "THEY'RE SIMILAR TO
LOBSTERS AND CRABS. BUT THEY
LIVE UNDER LOGS AND ROCKS."
Elinor says, REALLY?
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
Olive says, AND IT SAYS HERE THAT
ROLY-POLIES ROLL UP INTO A BALL
TO PROTECT THEMSELVES WHEN
THEY'RE FEELING NERVOUS.
Ari says, YIKES. I DON'T THINK
THE ROLY-POLY IS NERVOUS
ANYMORE. NOW, IT'S JUST--
[Ari laughs]
Ari says, --TICKLY. WHOA!
[Laughs]
Ari puts the roly poly down on grass.
Ari says, THERE YOU GO, LITTLE
ROLY-POLY.
Tito asks, WHERE'S IT GOING NOW?
Elinor says, LET'S FIND OUT!
FOLLOW THAT ROLY-POLY!
Elinor stops behind the roly-poly and Ari, Olive, Sally and Tito bump into each other behind her.
[Rustling, grunting]
Ari says, SORRY.
Elinor stops behind the roly-poly and Ari, Olive, Sally and Tito bump into each other behind her.
[Grunting]
Ari says, THE ROLY-POLY DOESN'T
GO VERY FAST.
[Upbeat music plays, rustling]
Olive says, THAT'S BECAUSE IT'S
SO SMALL. AND IT SEEMS TO BE
CHECKING THINGS OUT.
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT, OLIVE.
I THINK IT'S EXPLORING.
Tito says, JUST LIKE US!
Olive says, HMM... I WONDER WHAT
THINGS LOOK LIKE TO A LITTLE
ROLY-POLY.
Elinor says, LET'S FIND OUT.
LET'S BE ROLY-POLIES AND
OBSERVE THINGS FROM THE
GROUND, JUST LIKE A
ROLY-POLY DOES.
Tito and Sally lie down by a puddle.
Sally says, THAT PUDDLE LOOKS
LIKE AN OCEAN.
Tito says, THE GRASS LOOKS LIKE A
JUNGLE FROM DOWN HERE.
Ari, Olive, and Elinor watch the roly-poly crawl to a grey rock.
Ari says, WOW! THIS ROCK LOOKS
JUST LIKE A MOUNTAIN!
CLIMB IT, ROLY-POLY, ALL THE
WAY TO THE TOP!
[Skittering]
Olive says, YEP, IT'S EXPLORING
FOR SURE. YOU GO, ROLY-POLY.
Elinor says, I KNOW!
LET'S MAKE THIS ROLY-POLY A
MEMBER OF THE EXPLORING CLUB.
[Olive gasps]
Olive says, GREAT IDEA, ELINOR.
ONLY... ROLY-POLIES DON'T TALK,
SO IT CAN'T SAY THE
EXPLORING PLEDGE.
Elinor says, THEN LET'S DO THE
EXPLORERS' PLEDGE FOR
HIM. READY?
The Explorers recite,
AN EXPLORER IS BRAVE.
AN EXPLORER IS KIND.
AN EXPLORER IS CURIOUS.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND?
Ari says, WELCOME TO THE
CLUB, ROLY-POLY. UH-OH.
Olive asks, WHERE'D THE
ROLY-POLY GO?
Elinor says, THERE IT IS!
[Rustling, Ari gasps]
Ari says, IT'S GONE!
Olive says, IT WENT UNDER
THE LOG.
[Gasp]
Olive says, LET'S GO SEE IT COME
OUT THE OTHER SIDE!
[Rustling, tense music plays]
Elinor says, COME ON, EXPLORER
ROLY-POLY! WE'RE WAITING FOR
YOU SO WE CAN KEEP EXPLORING!
Ari asks, ROLY-POLY?
Tito says, IT'S NOT COMING OUT.
Olive suggests, MAYBE IT'S STUCK
UNDER THERE.
Olive rolls the log over.
[Humming, rustling]
Elinor says, LOOK AT THAT!
THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF
ANIMALS UNDER THIS LOG!
[Skittering]
Ari asks, WHAT ARE ALL
THOSE THINGS?
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WE DEFINITELY
NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!
WHOA! THERE ARE WORMS
AND BEETLES AND SPIDERS.
[Rustling, gasping]
Ari says, AND MORE ROLY-POLIES!
Elinor says, LOOK AT ALL THE LEGS
ON THIS ONE.
[Pages turn]
Olive says, HMM... LET ME CHECK MY
NATURE BOOK. THAT'S A MILLIPEDE.
Elinor says, BYE, MRS. MILLIPEDE!
Tito says, THEY'RE ALL MUNCHING
ON THAT OLD LOG. IT'S LIKE THEIR
LUNCH ROOM.
Sally says, AND THESE ANTS ARE
WALKING OVER A PUDDLE... ON A
STICK, JUST LIKE I WANTED!
Olive says, THOSE LITTLE PLANTS
THAT ARE GROWING OUT OF THE
LOG MUST LOOK JUST LIKE TREES
TO THEM.
Elinor says, THERE ARE ALL KINDS
OF ANIMALS UNDER THIS LOG.
Ari says, MAYBE THIS IS THEIR TOWN,
JUST LIKE WE LIVE IN ANIMAL
TOWN! WE'LL CALL IT... LOG TOWN.
Elinor says, WOW. IT'S SO MUCH
FUN TO EXPLORE!
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing,
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
JUST WALK OUT THE DOOR
THE WHOLE WORLD IS THERE
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
THEN EXPLORE SOME MORE
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'LL
FIND UNTIL YOU EXPLORE.
Elinor sings, WHO KNOWS WHERE
YOU'LL GO AND WHAT YOU WILL SEE?
[Buzzing]
Olive sings, IT COULD BE A FOREST
A CAVE OR THE SEA.
Ari sings, YOU MIGHT CLIMB A MOUNTAIN
OR WADE THROUGH A BOG
[Splashing]
Elinor sings, OR YOU MIGHT FIND
A TOWN UNDER A ROCK OR A LOG.
Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing,
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
JUST WALK OUT THE DOOR
THE WHOLE WORLD IS THERE
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
THEN EXPLORE SOME MORE
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'LL
FIND UNTIL YOU EXPLORE.
[All gasp]
Ari says, HEY, WHERE ARE
THEY GOING?
Olvie says, THEY'RE ALL HIDING.
LOOK, THE ROLY-POLIES ARE ALL
ROLLED UP.
Tito says, THEY MUST BE NERVOUS.
Ari asks, OF WHAT?
Olive says, OF US! WE PROBABLY
LOOK HUGE TO THEM, ARI.
[Birds chirp]
Ari says, OH, NO! LET'S NOT MAKE
THEM NERVOUS.
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT! LET'S PUT
THE ROOF BACK ON LOG TOWN.
Sally says, WAIT!
COME ON, LITTLE BUGS.
GET BACK INSIDE THE LOG.
[Skittering]
Tito says, OH, SWEET.
NOW, THEY WON'T BE SQUISHED BY
ACCIDENT WHEN WE ROLL THE LOG
BACK OVER.
Elinor says, THAT WAS A REALLY
NICE THING TO DO, SALLY.
[Rustling]
Olive says, PERFECT.
Ari says, BYE-BYE, ROLY-POLY!
THANKS FOR SHOWING US
AROUND LOG TOWN!
[Gasp, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WOW.
WHAT A GREAT DAY TO
GO EXPLORING.
Olive says, I GOT TO SEE
PLANTS THAT GROW OUT
OF LOGS.
Ari says, I GOT TO MEET A NEW
ANIMAL, THE ROLY-POLY. AND
WE GOT TO VISIT A WHOLE NEW
TOWN UNDER A LOG.
Tito says, IT WAS A REAL ADVENTURE.
Sally says, AND I FOUND SOME STICKS.
[Laughing, birds chirp]
Olive says, EVERYONE GOT TO
EXPLORE WHAT THEY WANTED.
EXCEPT YOU, ELINOR. I'M SORRY
WE DIDN'T EXPLORE FAR-AWAY
PLACES LIKE REAL EXPLORERS.
Elinor says, THAT'S OKAY, OLIVE.
WE DISCOVERED COOL NEW
THINGS NEARBY, AND WE WERE
REAL EXPLORERS.
TITO, YOU WERE BRAVE WHEN YOU
FIRST SAW THE ROLY-POLY.
AND SALLY, YOU WERE KIND WHEN
YOU MADE SURE OUR LOG TOWN
FRIENDS WERE SAFE.
BUT MOST IMPORTANT...
Ari says, WE WERE ALL CURIOUS!
[Cheering, upbeat music plays]
Tito asks, WHERE ARE WE
GOING TO EXPLORE TOMORROW?
Ari suggests, WELL, WE COULD
EXPLORE THE MESS IN MY ROOM.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND
HIDING UNDER THERE?
JUST SAYING.
[Laughing]
At school, Ms. Mole opens a door and walks into a closet.
Elinor asks, WHAT ARE YOU DOING
WITH THAT POT, MS. MOLE?
Ms. Mole says, I'M FINDING A NICE
SPOT FOR IT IN THE CLOSET.
Olive says, A PLANT IN THE CLOSET?
BUT DON'T PLANTS NEED SUNLIGHT
TO HELP THEM GROW?
Ms. Mole says, THEY SURE DO, OLIVE,
BUT THIS IS NOT A PLANT.
IT'S A MUSHROOM.
MUSHROOMS ACTUALLY LIKE TO
GROW IN THE DARK.
Ari says, COOL. I DIDN'T KNOW
MUSHROOMS WEREN'T PLANTS.
Ms. Mole says, THAT'S RIGHT.
Ari says, WOW.
Ms. Mole says, COME ON IN AND I'LL
READ YOU A BOOK ABOUT THE AMAZING
WORLD OF MUSHROOMS.
In the closet, Elinor turns on a flashlight as Ms. Mole picks up a book with a mushroom on the cover.
[Gentle music plays, door shuts, click, pages rustle]
Ms. Mole says, THEY DON'T NEED
SUNLIGHT. THEY LIKE TO GROW
IN DARK PLACES, LIKE UNDER
THIS LOG.
THEY GET WHAT THEY NEED FROM
THE GROUND USING THEIR ROOTS.
MUSHROOMS CAN GROW IN PLACES
WHERE IT'S TOTALLY DARK, LIKE
UNDERGROUND IN A CAVE.
[Water drops]
Ari says, WOW!
Elinor says, OH!
Olive says, I LIKE HOW THEY ARE
SO MANY DIFFERENT COLOURS.
Ms. Mole says, ME, TOO!
Elinor says, LOOK, THAT ONE'S PINK!
Olive says, I SEE A BLUE ONE!
Ari says, I SPOT A SPOTTED MUSHROOM.
Ms. Mole says, AND THAT'S NOT
EVEN THE MOST AMAZING COLOUR.
SOME MUSHROOMS CAN EVEN GLOW
IN THE DARK!
[Click]
Elinor asks, WHAT? REALLY?
Ms. Mole says, SEE FOR YOURSELVES!
[Ari gasps]
Ari says, WOW.
THAT IS AMAZING.
Olive says, I WISH I COULD GLOW
IN THE DARK.
Ms. Mole says, I THINK YOU KIDS
ARE ALREADY PLENTY BRIGHT.
[Laughing]
Blue text reads, “Rain, Rain Don’t Go Away.”
Elinor says, “RAIN, RAIN,
DON’T GO AWAY.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Olive follows Elinor across grass. Ari leaves his house and runs behind them.
[Ari grunts]
Olive says, IT'S SUCH A NICE DAY
TODAY. I'M SO GLAD WE'RE GOING
TO THE PARK.
Ari says, I KNOW! IT'S THE PERFECT
DAY TO RUN AND JUMP AND DANCE!
[Sings gibberish, birds sing]
[Olive and Elinor laugh]
Olive says, NICE MOVES, ARI.
Ari says, WHEW! ALL THIS SUNNY
DAY DANCING HAS MADE
ME THIRSTY.
Olive says,I HAVE SOME WATER.
HERE YOU GO.
Ari says, OOH!
[Slurping]
Ari says, AH! THANKS, OLIVE.
Olive says, YOU'RE WELCOME.
I CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO THE
PARK TO LOOK AT THE CLOUDS.
DRAWING THEM IS ONE OF MY
FAVOURITE THINGS.
Olive shows Elinor and Ari drawings of clouds in her notebook.
Ari says, OH, THOSE ARE NICE.
VERY... CLOUDY.
Olive says, THANKS.
[Laughing]
Olive says, COME ON.
[Birds chirp, upbeat music plays, whistling]
Elinor points towards a small pond.
Elinor says, OLIVE, ARI, LOOK!
[Olive and Ari gasp]
Elinor says, THERE'S THE FROG WE
ALWAYS SEE, ON HIS FAVOURITE
ROCK. HI, FROGGY. OR SHOULD
I SAY, RIBBIT?
[Croaking]
Elinor says, I THINK HE ANSWERED
ME. I GUESS I CAN SPEAK FROG.
Ari says, OOH, OOH, LET ME TRY!
LET ME TRY. RIBBIT, RIBBIT.
The frog stares at Ari.
Ari says, WAIT. WAS I SPEAKING
FROG OR TOAD?
Elinor says, HMM... I NOTICE
FROGGY'S POND LOOKS KIND OF
DIFFERENT TODAY.
Ari asks, WHAT DO YOU
MEAN, ELINOR?
Elinor says, WE CAN GET CLOSER
TO HIS ROCK, BECAUSE THE POND
SEEMS SMALLER AND HIS ROCK
SEEMS TALLER.
Olive says, OH, NO! FISH NEEDS
LOTS OF WATER IN THE POND
TO SWIM!
Ari says, UH-OH. WHERE DID
IT GO?
[Tense music plays]
Elinor says, AND THESE PLANTS
ARE LOOKING A LITTLE DROOPY!
Olive says, AND THEIR LEAVES
ARE TURNING BROWN.
THEY MUST BE THIRSTY.
Ari says, OH, HANG ON.
NORMA AND LULU ARE CROSSING.
Two snails move on grass by Ari’s feet.
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, BUT… ARE THEY
CROSSING, THOUGH?
Olive says, I KNOW SNAILS ARE
SLOW...BUT THIS IS REALLY SLOW.
[Birds sing]
Elinor says, HMM... MAYBE THEY'RE
THIRSTY, TOO. HMM...
[Upbeat music plays, rustling]
Olive says, THE GROUND IS NICE
AND DRY HERE.
THIS IS A NICE SPOT FOR US TO
LOOK AT SOME CLOUDS.
[Rustling]
Elinor says, THERE ARE SO MANY
PRETTY ONES!
WHAT SHAPES DO YOU SEE?
Ari points and says, OH, THERE'S ONE.
IT'S... CLOUD-SHAPED.
[Elinor and Olive laugh]
Elinor says, THEY'RE ALL CLOUD-SHAPED!
I THINK THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE A FISH.
Olive says, A FISH CLOUD!
Olive draws a blue fish cloud.
[Scratching]
Ari says, AND THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE...
A PIECE OF PIE!
Olive says, HUH?
Ari says, OH, OR MAYBE I'M JUST HUNGRY.
[Laughing, gasp]
Olive says, THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE A
BUTTERFLY. I'M GOING TO DRAW IT.
Elinor says, WHAT DOES THAT ONE
LOOK LIKE TO YOU, ARI?
IT'S SO BIG AND DARK.
Ari says, I DON'T KNOW.
I GUESS IT LOOKS LIKE... UH...
LIKE... LIKE...
[Raindrop plops]
Ari says, RAIN.
Olive asks, RAIN?
Elinor says, I DON'T SEE
ANYTHING SHAPED LIKE RAIN.
[Rain plops]
Elinor says, OKAY, I SEE IT NOW.
[Rain pitters]
Olive says, AW, OH, NO!
IT'S RAINING!
Ari says, SO MUCH FOR LOOKING
AT THE CLOUDS.
Olive frowns and says, IT'S REALLY
RAINING HARD. WE'D BETTER GO
INSIDE SOMEWHERE.
Ari says, I KNOW!
QUICKLY, FOLLOW ME!
Ari, Elinor, and Olive run under a tree.
[Rain pitters]
Olive grumbles, AW, I REALLY WANTED
TO LOOK AT THE CLOUDS TODAY, AND
NOW, WE'RE GETTING ALL WET.
WHO NEEDS RAIN, ANYWAY?
Elinor says, HMM... THAT'S AN
INTERESTING QUESTION, OLIVE.
WHO DOES NEED RAIN?
Ari says, WELL, I THINK IT'S FUN
TO GET WET. BUT I'M NOT SURE
WHY ANYONE NEEDS RAIN.
Elinor says, I WONDER... LET'S FIGURE
OUT WHAT RAIN IS GOOD FOR.
WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS.
Olive says, OBSERVATIONS?
NOW? IN THE RAIN?
[Heavy rain pitters]
Elinor asks, WHY NOT? THE BEST
TIME TO OBSERVE RAIN IS... WHEN
IT'S RAINING.
Olive says, I GUESS THAT MAKE SENSE.
I JUST DON'T LIKE THE GETTING
WET PART.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, BUT OLIVE, THIS RAIN IS
WARM AND NICE. IT'S LIKE A GIANT
OUTDOOR SHOWER.
Elinor says, OR A WATER FOUNTAIN
FROM THE SKY.
Elinor catches rain on her tongue.
[Elinor hums]
Olive says, UH, WHY DON'T WE GO
INSIDE AND ENJOY IT THROUGH
THE WINDOW?
Ari and Elinor dance in the rain.
[Ari sings gibberish, upbeat music plays, laughing]
Ari says, THIS IS AWESOME!
I CAN DANCE IN THE RAIN, TOO!
TA-DA!
Elinor says, WOW.
OLIVE, DON'T YOU WANT TO FIGURE
OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS?
Olive says, WELL... I KNOW YOU GET WET.
Elinor says, WE'LL BE RAIN DETECTIVES.
COME ON.
[Elinor hums, upbeat music plays]
Ari and Elinor dance in the rain as Olive watches from beneath the tree.
Olive says, I GUESS THAT DOES LOOK
LIKE FUN.
[Elinor hums]
Olive dances in the rain with Ari and Elinor.
[Giggling, gasping]
Olive says, HEY, LOOK!
THESE FLOWERS OVER HERE
OPENED UP IN THE RAIN!
THEY MUST LOVE THE RAIN.
Elnior says, LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE
HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS.
Ari says, YEAH.
[Giggling]
Olive, Ari, and Elinor walk to the pond.
[Rain pitters, splashing]
Elinor says, OLIVE, WATCH OUT!
Olive says, OH. NORMA AND LULU
ARE CROSSING THE PATH AGAIN.
Elinor observes, THEY'RE SURE GOING
A LOT FASTER THIS TIME.
Ari says, MAYBE RAIN HELPS SNAILS
MOVE FASTER?
Elinor says, LOOK AT THEIR SHINY
SLIME TRAILS.
Ari says, OH!
I BET IT'S EASIER FOR THE
SNAILS TO MOVE WHEN THEIR
BELLIES ARE WET.
Elinor says, SO THE RAIN MAKES
THINGS BETTER FOR SNAILS, TOO.
[Upbeat music plays]
Olive says, AND IT MAKES NORMA
AND LULU ALL SHINY.
[Frog croaks]
Ari says, OH, HI, FROGGY.
HOW DO YOU LIKE THE RAIN?
OH, SORRY. I MEAN, RIBBIT, RIBBIT.
[Croaking]
Elinor says, LOOK! THE RAIN IS
FILLING UP THE POND.
Ari says, WHOA!
NO WONDER FROGGY LOOKS SO HAPPY.
HE HAS MORE ROOM TO SWIM AROUND.
AND LOOK AT THE FISH.
THEY'RE SWIMMING AROUND A LOT
MORE, TOO.
[Burbling]
Olive asks, DO YOU THINK THE FISH
KNOW IT'S RAINING?
[Splash]
[Heavy rain pitters]
Elinor says, SURE LOOKS LIKE IT,
AND THEY MUST BE HAPPY TO
HAVE THEIR POND FULL OF
FRESH WATER.
I THINK WE FIGURED OUT WHAT
HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS AND
WHO NEEDS THE RAIN.
LOTS OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS.
Olive says, YEAH, RAIN WATERS
THE PLANTS AND FILLS THE PONDS
FOR THE FROG AND FISH TO LIVE IN.
[Splashing]
Ari says, AND IT EVEN HELPS SNAILS
MOVE BETTER.
Elinor says, WE SOLVED THE MYSTERY,
RAIN DETECTIVES!
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari, Elinor, and Olive sing,
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN
TO FALL DOWN FROM THE SKY?
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN?
WHY CAN'T IT JUST STAY DRY?
Olive sings, RAIN MAKES THE GRASS
GREEN, IT WATERS EVERY TREE.
Elinor sings, RAIN HELPS THE FLOWERS
BLOOM FOR ALL THE BIRDS AND BEES.
[Buzzing]
Ari sings, FROGS AND SLUGS AND SNAILS
MOVE BETTER WHEN THEY'RE WET.
Ari, Elinor, and Olive sing,
FISH NEED WATER IN THEIR POND
LET'S NOT FORGET. OH, NO
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN
TO FALL DOWN FROM THE SKY?
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN?
WHY CAN'T IT JUST STAY DRY?
[Giggling]
Olive says, THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN.
I'M GOING TO DRAW WHAT WE
LEARNED IN MY NOTEBOOK. OH, NO.
[Elinor gasps]
Olive says, MY NOTEBOOK IS ALL WET.
HOW AM I GOING TO DRAW IN IT?
Ari says, I BET MY MOM CAN HELP
YOU. COME ON!
[Laughing, croaking, upbeat music plays]
A fan blows on Olive’s notebook as she kneels beside it on a carpet. Mrs. Bat sits on a couch behind her as Elinor kneels on the floor carpet by the fan.
Mrs. Bat says, YOUR NOTEBOOK
WILL BE DRY IN NO TIME, OLIVE.
[Rustling]
Olive says, WOW, THANKS, MRS. BAT.
Mrs. Bat says, NO WORRIES.
RAIN IS WET. YOU CAN'T AVOID IT.
THE GOOD THING IS, YOU CAN
ALWAYS GET DRY.
[Page turns]
Elinor says, ALL THIS RAIN TALK
IS MAKING ME THIRSTY.
MAY WE HAVE WATER TO DRINK,
PLEASE, MRS. BAT?
Mrs. Bat says, SURE, ELINOR.
I'LL BE RIGHT BACK.
[Flapping, pages turn, gentle music plays]
Elinor says, THANKS.
Olive says, I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING.
WHEN WE WANT WATER, WE CAN JUST
GET IT FROM OUR KITCHEN OR FROM
OUR WATER BOTTLES.
BUT WHEN FROGS OR PONDS OR
SNAILS NEED WATER, THEY HAVE
TO WAIT FOR RAIN.
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
THAT MEANS RAIN IS EXTRA
IMPORTANT TO THEM.
[Page turns]
Mrs. Bat says, AND FOR US, TOO.
WE'RE ALL PART OF THE SAME
FOREST. HERE'S SOME WATER
AND ALSO SOME RAIN GEAR AND
UMBRELLAS TO KEEP YOU ALL
DRY IF YOU GO BACK OUTSIDE.
Olive says, THANKS, MRS. BAT.
NOW THAT I KNOW THAT RAIN IS
GOOD FOR PLANTS AND ANIMALS,
IT'S SO MUCH MORE FUN TO PLAY
IN IT.
[Ari sings gibberish, Olive gasps, upbeat music plays]
Ari says, OKAY, WHO'S READY TO GO BACK
AND PLAY IN THE RAIN SOME MORE?
OOH, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME! ME. ME.
[Elinor and Olive laugh]
Elinor says, I'M READY!
Olive says, ME, TOO!
Ari says, THEN LET'S GO PLAY
IN THE RAIN!
[Door opens, birds chirp]
[Elinor and Ari gasp]
Ari asks, SUNSHINE?
Elinor asks, WHERE'D ALL THE RAIN GO?
Ari says, JUST WHEN WE GOT ALL
RAINCOAT-ED AND RAIN-BOOTED,
THERE'S NO MORE RAIN.
Olive says, AW.
[Birds chirp]
Elinor says, THAT'S OKAY.
WE CAN STILL BE RAIN DETECTIVES.
THINGS LOOK SO DIFFERENT WHEN
THEY'RE WET. LOOK.
[Water drips]
Olive says, OOH. YOU'RE RIGHT.
THE PLANTS LOOK GREENER AND
SHINIER. WHOA!
THAT SPIDER WEB HAS RAINDROPS
STICKING TO IT. IT LOOKS SO SPARKLY!
[Dripping, sniffing]
Elinor says, AND THE AIR SMELLS
REALLY FRESH.
Olive says, WOW. THE RAIN GIVES
US SO MUCH.
[Splashing]
Olive says, HEY!
[Ari laughs]
Ari stands in a puddle.
Ari says, SORRY. I JUST
COULDN'T RESIST.
[Laughing, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, THAT'S OKAY, ARI.
Olive says, I THINK YOU FOUND
THE BEST THING THAT RAIN
GIVES US: PUDDLES!
Elinor shouts, YAY!
Ari and Olive cheer, WHOO-HOO!
[Splash]
Ari shouts, YEAH!
Elinor says, HEY!
[Giggling]
Elinor says, WHOO-HOO!
[Splash]
Ari trips and says, WHOA, WHOA!
[Laughing]
Olive cheers, YAY!
[Upbeat music plays]

[Chiming]
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME.
Text above Elinor reads, “Elinor Wonders Why.” A magnifying glass with pink bunny ears replaces the letter ‘O’ in Elinor’s name.
Blue text reads, “Follow That Roly Poly.”
Elinor says, “FOLLOW THAT ROLY POLY.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WELCOME, EXPLORERS
OLIVE, ARI, SALLY, AND TITO. IT'S
TIME FOR THE EXPLORERS' PLEDGE.
Elinor, Olive, Ari, Sally and Tito say,
AN EXPLORER IS BRAVE.
AN EXPLORER IS KIND.
AN EXPLORER IS CURIOUS.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND?
[Cheering]
Tito says, WOW, I CAN'T WAIT TO
GO ON AN EXPLORER ADVENTURE.
I'LL BE BRAVE AND KIND AND...
UM... WHAT DOES CURIOUS MEAN?
Elinor replies, GOOD QUESTION, TITO.
CURIOUS MEANS YOU REALLY WANT
TO FIND OUT ABOUT NEW THINGS.
Olive says, YEP, WE EXPLORERS ARE
VERY CURIOUS, SO WE ASK A LOT
OF QUESTIONS.
Tito says, FUN. UH... WHAT KIND
OF QUESTIONS?
Ari replies, ANY KIND OF QUESTION,
LIKE THE ONE YOU JUST ASKED.
Tito says, OH.
[Giggling]
Tito cheers, YAY ME!
[Everyone cheers and laughs]
Elinor says, OKAY, EXPLORERS.
NOW THAT WE'VE SAID OUR
PLEDGE, IT'S TIME FOR THE BEST
PART OF THE CLUB: EXPLORING!
[Olive gasps, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, FOLLOW ME!
Tito says, THIS IS SO EXCITING!
WHERE ARE WE GOING TO
EXPLORE TODAY?
Elinor says, HMM... WELL, THAT
DEPENDS ON WHAT WE WANT
TO SEE.
Olive says, I'D LIKE TO SEE SOME
INTERESTING NEW PLANTS.
Ari says, I WANT TO SEE COOL NEW
ANIMALS, LIKE LIZARDS OR BUGS.
Sally says, I JUST WANT TO FIND
SOME STICKS.
Ari says, HUH?
Sally says, WHAT?
I LOVE STICKS.
Elinor says, WELL, I WANT TO BE
LIKE THE GREAT EXPLORERS.
EXPLORING THE SEA... OR A
JUNGLE... OR EVEN A NEW CITY!
Elinor imagines sailing on a ship and walking through a jungle.
[Popping, wind blows, bird calls]
Ari says, UH, ELINOR, I DON'T
THINK WE CAN GO THAT FAR.
Olive says, MY MOM SAID WE'RE
SUPPOSED TO STAY AROUND THE
WOODS NEAR THE CLUBHOUSE.
Titao says, YEAH, AND I'M
SUPPOSED TO BE HOME FOR LUNCH.
[Sigh]
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
BUT WE CAN STILL EXPLORE!
COME ON!
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor, Olive, Ari, Sally and Tito sing,
LET'S GO EXPLORING,
EXPLORING, EXPLORING.
LET'S GO EXPLORING,
EXPLORING, EXPLORING.
Ari steps on a stick and knocks a round purple object into the air.
Ari says, WHOA! HUH?
SOMETHING HIT ME.
Olive says, I SAW IT. I THINK IT
WAS THAT LITTLE ROCK.
Ari says, YEP, THAT MUST BE IT.
Olive says, WHOA.
Elinor asks, WHAT ARE YOU
ALL LOOKING AT?
Olive says, A ROCK.
[Gentle music plays]
Elinor repeats, A ROCK?
BUT EXPLORERS, WE HAVE
SO MUCH MORE TO EXPLORE!
NEW PLANTS, NEW ANIMALS,
A JUNGLE, THE SEA, A NEW CITY,
AND-- AND STICKS.
Ari says, YEAH, BUT THIS IS A
REALLY COOL ROCK, ELINOR.
LOOK!
Elinor says, OH! YOU'RE RIGHT, ARI.
I'VE NEVER SEEN A ROCK LIKE THIS
ONE BEFORE.
IT'S TINY AND ROUND, AND IT
HAS LOTS OF LINES ON IT.
Ari says, WAIT A MINUTE.
IS THIS ROCK MOVING?
A purple bug unrolls itself in Ari’s palm.
Tito says, I THOUGHT ROCKS DON'T
MOVE. RIGHT?
Elinor says, WE NEED
MORE OBSERVATIONS.
[Gasp]
Elinor says, IT HAS LEGS!
Tito says, A ROCK WITH LEGS?
I'M SCARED!
Olive says, YOU DON'T HAVE
TO WORRY, TITO. EXPLORERS
ARE BRAVE, REMEMBER?
Tito says, OH, YEAH.
Elinor says, YOU KNOW WHAT?
THIS ISN'T A ROCK AT ALL.
IT LOOKS LIKE SOME KIND
OF BUG.
Ari says, THAT IS SO COOL!
Olive looks at the bug through a magnifying glass.
Olive says, IT HAS ONE, TWO, THREE,
FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN PAIRS OF LEGS.
HMM... LET ME CHECK MY NATURE BOOK.
[Pages rustle]
Olive says, HMM... OKAY, SO...
HMM... FOREST ANIMALS.
OH, I THINK WE FOUND A
ROLY-POLY.
LISTEN TO THIS.
"ROLY-POLIES, OR PILL BUGS,
ACTUALLY AREN'T BUGS AT ALL."
Ari and Elinor say, HUH?
[Gentle music plays]
Olive reads, "THEY'RE SIMILAR TO
LOBSTERS AND CRABS. BUT THEY
LIVE UNDER LOGS AND ROCKS."
Elinor says, REALLY?
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
Olive says, AND IT SAYS HERE THAT
ROLY-POLIES ROLL UP INTO A BALL
TO PROTECT THEMSELVES WHEN
THEY'RE FEELING NERVOUS.
Ari says, YIKES. I DON'T THINK
THE ROLY-POLY IS NERVOUS
ANYMORE. NOW, IT'S JUST--
[Ari laughs]
Ari says, --TICKLY. WHOA!
[Laughs]
Ari puts the roly poly down on grass.
Ari says, THERE YOU GO, LITTLE
ROLY-POLY.
Tito asks, WHERE'S IT GOING NOW?
Elinor says, LET'S FIND OUT!
FOLLOW THAT ROLY-POLY!
Elinor stops behind the roly-poly and Ari, Olive, Sally and Tito bump into each other behind her.
[Rustling, grunting]
Ari says, SORRY.
Elinor stops behind the roly-poly and Ari, Olive, Sally and Tito bump into each other behind her.
[Grunting]
Ari says, THE ROLY-POLY DOESN'T
GO VERY FAST.
[Upbeat music plays, rustling]
Olive says, THAT'S BECAUSE IT'S
SO SMALL. AND IT SEEMS TO BE
CHECKING THINGS OUT.
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT, OLIVE.
I THINK IT'S EXPLORING.
Tito says, JUST LIKE US!
Olive says, HMM... I WONDER WHAT
THINGS LOOK LIKE TO A LITTLE
ROLY-POLY.
Elinor says, LET'S FIND OUT.
LET'S BE ROLY-POLIES AND
OBSERVE THINGS FROM THE
GROUND, JUST LIKE A
ROLY-POLY DOES.
Tito and Sally lie down by a puddle.
Sally says, THAT PUDDLE LOOKS
LIKE AN OCEAN.
Tito says, THE GRASS LOOKS LIKE A
JUNGLE FROM DOWN HERE.
Ari, Olive, and Elinor watch the roly-poly crawl to a grey rock.
Ari says, WOW! THIS ROCK LOOKS
JUST LIKE A MOUNTAIN!
CLIMB IT, ROLY-POLY, ALL THE
WAY TO THE TOP!
[Skittering]
Olive says, YEP, IT'S EXPLORING
FOR SURE. YOU GO, ROLY-POLY.
Elinor says, I KNOW!
LET'S MAKE THIS ROLY-POLY A
MEMBER OF THE EXPLORING CLUB.
[Olive gasps]
Olive says, GREAT IDEA, ELINOR.
ONLY... ROLY-POLIES DON'T TALK,
SO IT CAN'T SAY THE
EXPLORING PLEDGE.
Elinor says, THEN LET'S DO THE
EXPLORERS' PLEDGE FOR
HIM. READY?
The Explorers recite,
AN EXPLORER IS BRAVE.
AN EXPLORER IS KIND.
AN EXPLORER IS CURIOUS.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND?
Ari says, WELCOME TO THE
CLUB, ROLY-POLY. UH-OH.
Olive asks, WHERE'D THE
ROLY-POLY GO?
Elinor says, THERE IT IS!
[Rustling, Ari gasps]
Ari says, IT'S GONE!
Olive says, IT WENT UNDER
THE LOG.
[Gasp]
Olive says, LET'S GO SEE IT COME
OUT THE OTHER SIDE!
[Rustling, tense music plays]
Elinor says, COME ON, EXPLORER
ROLY-POLY! WE'RE WAITING FOR
YOU SO WE CAN KEEP EXPLORING!
Ari asks, ROLY-POLY?
Tito says, IT'S NOT COMING OUT.
Olive suggests, MAYBE IT'S STUCK
UNDER THERE.
Olive rolls the log over.
[Humming, rustling]
Elinor says, LOOK AT THAT!
THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF
ANIMALS UNDER THIS LOG!
[Skittering]
Ari asks, WHAT ARE ALL
THOSE THINGS?
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WE DEFINITELY
NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS!
WHOA! THERE ARE WORMS
AND BEETLES AND SPIDERS.
[Rustling, gasping]
Ari says, AND MORE ROLY-POLIES!
Elinor says, LOOK AT ALL THE LEGS
ON THIS ONE.
[Pages turn]
Olive says, HMM... LET ME CHECK MY
NATURE BOOK. THAT'S A MILLIPEDE.
Elinor says, BYE, MRS. MILLIPEDE!
Tito says, THEY'RE ALL MUNCHING
ON THAT OLD LOG. IT'S LIKE THEIR
LUNCH ROOM.
Sally says, AND THESE ANTS ARE
WALKING OVER A PUDDLE... ON A
STICK, JUST LIKE I WANTED!
Olive says, THOSE LITTLE PLANTS
THAT ARE GROWING OUT OF THE
LOG MUST LOOK JUST LIKE TREES
TO THEM.
Elinor says, THERE ARE ALL KINDS
OF ANIMALS UNDER THIS LOG.
Ari says, MAYBE THIS IS THEIR TOWN,
JUST LIKE WE LIVE IN ANIMAL
TOWN! WE'LL CALL IT... LOG TOWN.
Elinor says, WOW. IT'S SO MUCH
FUN TO EXPLORE!
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing,
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
JUST WALK OUT THE DOOR
THE WHOLE WORLD IS THERE
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
THEN EXPLORE SOME MORE
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'LL
FIND UNTIL YOU EXPLORE.
Elinor sings, WHO KNOWS WHERE
YOU'LL GO AND WHAT YOU WILL SEE?
[Buzzing]
Olive sings, IT COULD BE A FOREST
A CAVE OR THE SEA.
Ari sings, YOU MIGHT CLIMB A MOUNTAIN
OR WADE THROUGH A BOG
[Splashing]
Elinor sings, OR YOU MIGHT FIND
A TOWN UNDER A ROCK OR A LOG.
Elinor, Ari, and Olive sing,
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
JUST WALK OUT THE DOOR
THE WHOLE WORLD IS THERE
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
EXPLORE, EXPLORE
THEN EXPLORE SOME MORE
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'LL
FIND UNTIL YOU EXPLORE.
[All gasp]
Ari says, HEY, WHERE ARE
THEY GOING?
Olvie says, THEY'RE ALL HIDING.
LOOK, THE ROLY-POLIES ARE ALL
ROLLED UP.
Tito says, THEY MUST BE NERVOUS.
Ari asks, OF WHAT?
Olive says, OF US! WE PROBABLY
LOOK HUGE TO THEM, ARI.
[Birds chirp]
Ari says, OH, NO! LET'S NOT MAKE
THEM NERVOUS.
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT! LET'S PUT
THE ROOF BACK ON LOG TOWN.
Sally says, WAIT!
COME ON, LITTLE BUGS.
GET BACK INSIDE THE LOG.
[Skittering]
Tito says, OH, SWEET.
NOW, THEY WON'T BE SQUISHED BY
ACCIDENT WHEN WE ROLL THE LOG
BACK OVER.
Elinor says, THAT WAS A REALLY
NICE THING TO DO, SALLY.
[Rustling]
Olive says, PERFECT.
Ari says, BYE-BYE, ROLY-POLY!
THANKS FOR SHOWING US
AROUND LOG TOWN!
[Gasp, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WOW.
WHAT A GREAT DAY TO
GO EXPLORING.
Olive says, I GOT TO SEE
PLANTS THAT GROW OUT
OF LOGS.
Ari says, I GOT TO MEET A NEW
ANIMAL, THE ROLY-POLY. AND
WE GOT TO VISIT A WHOLE NEW
TOWN UNDER A LOG.
Tito says, IT WAS A REAL ADVENTURE.
Sally says, AND I FOUND SOME STICKS.
[Laughing, birds chirp]
Olive says, EVERYONE GOT TO
EXPLORE WHAT THEY WANTED.
EXCEPT YOU, ELINOR. I'M SORRY
WE DIDN'T EXPLORE FAR-AWAY
PLACES LIKE REAL EXPLORERS.
Elinor says, THAT'S OKAY, OLIVE.
WE DISCOVERED COOL NEW
THINGS NEARBY, AND WE WERE
REAL EXPLORERS.
TITO, YOU WERE BRAVE WHEN YOU
FIRST SAW THE ROLY-POLY.
AND SALLY, YOU WERE KIND WHEN
YOU MADE SURE OUR LOG TOWN
FRIENDS WERE SAFE.
BUT MOST IMPORTANT...
Ari says, WE WERE ALL CURIOUS!
[Cheering, upbeat music plays]
Tito asks, WHERE ARE WE
GOING TO EXPLORE TOMORROW?
Ari suggests, WELL, WE COULD
EXPLORE THE MESS IN MY ROOM.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND
HIDING UNDER THERE?
JUST SAYING.
[Laughing]
At school, Ms. Mole opens a door and walks into a closet.
Elinor asks, WHAT ARE YOU DOING
WITH THAT POT, MS. MOLE?
Ms. Mole says, I'M FINDING A NICE
SPOT FOR IT IN THE CLOSET.
Olive says, A PLANT IN THE CLOSET?
BUT DON'T PLANTS NEED SUNLIGHT
TO HELP THEM GROW?
Ms. Mole says, THEY SURE DO, OLIVE,
BUT THIS IS NOT A PLANT.
IT'S A MUSHROOM.
MUSHROOMS ACTUALLY LIKE TO
GROW IN THE DARK.
Ari says, COOL. I DIDN'T KNOW
MUSHROOMS WEREN'T PLANTS.
Ms. Mole says, THAT'S RIGHT.
Ari says, WOW.
Ms. Mole says, COME ON IN AND I'LL
READ YOU A BOOK ABOUT THE AMAZING
WORLD OF MUSHROOMS.
In the closet, Elinor turns on a flashlight as Ms. Mole picks up a book with a mushroom on the cover.
[Gentle music plays, door shuts, click, pages rustle]
Ms. Mole says, THEY DON'T NEED
SUNLIGHT. THEY LIKE TO GROW
IN DARK PLACES, LIKE UNDER
THIS LOG.
THEY GET WHAT THEY NEED FROM
THE GROUND USING THEIR ROOTS.
MUSHROOMS CAN GROW IN PLACES
WHERE IT'S TOTALLY DARK, LIKE
UNDERGROUND IN A CAVE.
[Water drops]
Ari says, WOW!
Elinor says, OH!
Olive says, I LIKE HOW THEY ARE
SO MANY DIFFERENT COLOURS.
Ms. Mole says, ME, TOO!
Elinor says, LOOK, THAT ONE'S PINK!
Olive says, I SEE A BLUE ONE!
Ari says, I SPOT A SPOTTED MUSHROOM.
Ms. Mole says, AND THAT'S NOT
EVEN THE MOST AMAZING COLOUR.
SOME MUSHROOMS CAN EVEN GLOW
IN THE DARK!
[Click]
Elinor asks, WHAT? REALLY?
Ms. Mole says, SEE FOR YOURSELVES!
[Ari gasps]
Ari says, WOW.
THAT IS AMAZING.
Olive says, I WISH I COULD GLOW
IN THE DARK.
Ms. Mole says, I THINK YOU KIDS
ARE ALREADY PLENTY BRIGHT.
[Laughing]
Blue text reads, “Rain, Rain Don’t Go Away.”
Elinor says, “RAIN, RAIN,
DON’T GO AWAY.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Olive follows Elinor across grass. Ari leaves his house and runs behind them.
[Ari grunts]
Olive says, IT'S SUCH A NICE DAY
TODAY. I'M SO GLAD WE'RE GOING
TO THE PARK.
Ari says, I KNOW! IT'S THE PERFECT
DAY TO RUN AND JUMP AND DANCE!
[Sings gibberish, birds sing]
[Olive and Elinor laugh]
Olive says, NICE MOVES, ARI.
Ari says, WHEW! ALL THIS SUNNY
DAY DANCING HAS MADE
ME THIRSTY.
Olive says,I HAVE SOME WATER.
HERE YOU GO.
Ari says, OOH!
[Slurping]
Ari says, AH! THANKS, OLIVE.
Olive says, YOU'RE WELCOME.
I CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO THE
PARK TO LOOK AT THE CLOUDS.
DRAWING THEM IS ONE OF MY
FAVOURITE THINGS.
Olive shows Elinor and Ari drawings of clouds in her notebook.
Ari says, OH, THOSE ARE NICE.
VERY... CLOUDY.
Olive says, THANKS.
[Laughing]
Olive says, COME ON.
[Birds chirp, upbeat music plays, whistling]
Elinor points towards a small pond.
Elinor says, OLIVE, ARI, LOOK!
[Olive and Ari gasp]
Elinor says, THERE'S THE FROG WE
ALWAYS SEE, ON HIS FAVOURITE
ROCK. HI, FROGGY. OR SHOULD
I SAY, RIBBIT?
[Croaking]
Elinor says, I THINK HE ANSWERED
ME. I GUESS I CAN SPEAK FROG.
Ari says, OOH, OOH, LET ME TRY!
LET ME TRY. RIBBIT, RIBBIT.
The frog stares at Ari.
Ari says, WAIT. WAS I SPEAKING
FROG OR TOAD?
Elinor says, HMM... I NOTICE
FROGGY'S POND LOOKS KIND OF
DIFFERENT TODAY.
Ari asks, WHAT DO YOU
MEAN, ELINOR?
Elinor says, WE CAN GET CLOSER
TO HIS ROCK, BECAUSE THE POND
SEEMS SMALLER AND HIS ROCK
SEEMS TALLER.
Olive says, OH, NO! FISH NEEDS
LOTS OF WATER IN THE POND
TO SWIM!
Ari says, UH-OH. WHERE DID
IT GO?
[Tense music plays]
Elinor says, AND THESE PLANTS
ARE LOOKING A LITTLE DROOPY!
Olive says, AND THEIR LEAVES
ARE TURNING BROWN.
THEY MUST BE THIRSTY.
Ari says, OH, HANG ON.
NORMA AND LULU ARE CROSSING.
Two snails move on grass by Ari’s feet.
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, BUT… ARE THEY
CROSSING, THOUGH?
Olive says, I KNOW SNAILS ARE
SLOW...BUT THIS IS REALLY SLOW.
[Birds sing]
Elinor says, HMM... MAYBE THEY'RE
THIRSTY, TOO. HMM...
[Upbeat music plays, rustling]
Olive says, THE GROUND IS NICE
AND DRY HERE.
THIS IS A NICE SPOT FOR US TO
LOOK AT SOME CLOUDS.
[Rustling]
Elinor says, THERE ARE SO MANY
PRETTY ONES!
WHAT SHAPES DO YOU SEE?
Ari points and says, OH, THERE'S ONE.
IT'S... CLOUD-SHAPED.
[Elinor and Olive laugh]
Elinor says, THEY'RE ALL CLOUD-SHAPED!
I THINK THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE A FISH.
Olive says, A FISH CLOUD!
Olive draws a blue fish cloud.
[Scratching]
Ari says, AND THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE...
A PIECE OF PIE!
Olive says, HUH?
Ari says, OH, OR MAYBE I'M JUST HUNGRY.
[Laughing, gasp]
Olive says, THAT ONE LOOKS LIKE A
BUTTERFLY. I'M GOING TO DRAW IT.
Elinor says, WHAT DOES THAT ONE
LOOK LIKE TO YOU, ARI?
IT'S SO BIG AND DARK.
Ari says, I DON'T KNOW.
I GUESS IT LOOKS LIKE... UH...
LIKE... LIKE...
[Raindrop plops]
Ari says, RAIN.
Olive asks, RAIN?
Elinor says, I DON'T SEE
ANYTHING SHAPED LIKE RAIN.
[Rain plops]
Elinor says, OKAY, I SEE IT NOW.
[Rain pitters]
Olive says, AW, OH, NO!
IT'S RAINING!
Ari says, SO MUCH FOR LOOKING
AT THE CLOUDS.
Olive frowns and says, IT'S REALLY
RAINING HARD. WE'D BETTER GO
INSIDE SOMEWHERE.
Ari says, I KNOW!
QUICKLY, FOLLOW ME!
Ari, Elinor, and Olive run under a tree.
[Rain pitters]
Olive grumbles, AW, I REALLY WANTED
TO LOOK AT THE CLOUDS TODAY, AND
NOW, WE'RE GETTING ALL WET.
WHO NEEDS RAIN, ANYWAY?
Elinor says, HMM... THAT'S AN
INTERESTING QUESTION, OLIVE.
WHO DOES NEED RAIN?
Ari says, WELL, I THINK IT'S FUN
TO GET WET. BUT I'M NOT SURE
WHY ANYONE NEEDS RAIN.
Elinor says, I WONDER... LET'S FIGURE
OUT WHAT RAIN IS GOOD FOR.
WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS.
Olive says, OBSERVATIONS?
NOW? IN THE RAIN?
[Heavy rain pitters]
Elinor asks, WHY NOT? THE BEST
TIME TO OBSERVE RAIN IS... WHEN
IT'S RAINING.
Olive says, I GUESS THAT MAKE SENSE.
I JUST DON'T LIKE THE GETTING
WET PART.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, BUT OLIVE, THIS RAIN IS
WARM AND NICE. IT'S LIKE A GIANT
OUTDOOR SHOWER.
Elinor says, OR A WATER FOUNTAIN
FROM THE SKY.
Elinor catches rain on her tongue.
[Elinor hums]
Olive says, UH, WHY DON'T WE GO
INSIDE AND ENJOY IT THROUGH
THE WINDOW?
Ari and Elinor dance in the rain.
[Ari sings gibberish, upbeat music plays, laughing]
Ari says, THIS IS AWESOME!
I CAN DANCE IN THE RAIN, TOO!
TA-DA!
Elinor says, WOW.
OLIVE, DON'T YOU WANT TO FIGURE
OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS?
Olive says, WELL... I KNOW YOU GET WET.
Elinor says, WE'LL BE RAIN DETECTIVES.
COME ON.
[Elinor hums, upbeat music plays]
Ari and Elinor dance in the rain as Olive watches from beneath the tree.
Olive says, I GUESS THAT DOES LOOK
LIKE FUN.
[Elinor hums]
Olive dances in the rain with Ari and Elinor.
[Giggling, gasping]
Olive says, HEY, LOOK!
THESE FLOWERS OVER HERE
OPENED UP IN THE RAIN!
THEY MUST LOVE THE RAIN.
Elnior says, LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE
HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS.
Ari says, YEAH.
[Giggling]
Olive, Ari, and Elinor walk to the pond.
[Rain pitters, splashing]
Elinor says, OLIVE, WATCH OUT!
Olive says, OH. NORMA AND LULU
ARE CROSSING THE PATH AGAIN.
Elinor observes, THEY'RE SURE GOING
A LOT FASTER THIS TIME.
Ari says, MAYBE RAIN HELPS SNAILS
MOVE FASTER?
Elinor says, LOOK AT THEIR SHINY
SLIME TRAILS.
Ari says, OH!
I BET IT'S EASIER FOR THE
SNAILS TO MOVE WHEN THEIR
BELLIES ARE WET.
Elinor says, SO THE RAIN MAKES
THINGS BETTER FOR SNAILS, TOO.
[Upbeat music plays]
Olive says, AND IT MAKES NORMA
AND LULU ALL SHINY.
[Frog croaks]
Ari says, OH, HI, FROGGY.
HOW DO YOU LIKE THE RAIN?
OH, SORRY. I MEAN, RIBBIT, RIBBIT.
[Croaking]
Elinor says, LOOK! THE RAIN IS
FILLING UP THE POND.
Ari says, WHOA!
NO WONDER FROGGY LOOKS SO HAPPY.
HE HAS MORE ROOM TO SWIM AROUND.
AND LOOK AT THE FISH.
THEY'RE SWIMMING AROUND A LOT
MORE, TOO.
[Burbling]
Olive asks, DO YOU THINK THE FISH
KNOW IT'S RAINING?
[Splash]
[Heavy rain pitters]
Elinor says, SURE LOOKS LIKE IT,
AND THEY MUST BE HAPPY TO
HAVE THEIR POND FULL OF
FRESH WATER.
I THINK WE FIGURED OUT WHAT
HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS AND
WHO NEEDS THE RAIN.
LOTS OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS.
Olive says, YEAH, RAIN WATERS
THE PLANTS AND FILLS THE PONDS
FOR THE FROG AND FISH TO LIVE IN.
[Splashing]
Ari says, AND IT EVEN HELPS SNAILS
MOVE BETTER.
Elinor says, WE SOLVED THE MYSTERY,
RAIN DETECTIVES!
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari, Elinor, and Olive sing,
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN
TO FALL DOWN FROM THE SKY?
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN?
WHY CAN'T IT JUST STAY DRY?
Olive sings, RAIN MAKES THE GRASS
GREEN, IT WATERS EVERY TREE.
Elinor sings, RAIN HELPS THE FLOWERS
BLOOM FOR ALL THE BIRDS AND BEES.
[Buzzing]
Ari sings, FROGS AND SLUGS AND SNAILS
MOVE BETTER WHEN THEY'RE WET.
Ari, Elinor, and Olive sing,
FISH NEED WATER IN THEIR POND
LET'S NOT FORGET. OH, NO
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN
TO FALL DOWN FROM THE SKY?
WHY DO WE NEED THE RAIN?
WHY CAN'T IT JUST STAY DRY?
[Giggling]
Olive says, THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN.
I'M GOING TO DRAW WHAT WE
LEARNED IN MY NOTEBOOK. OH, NO.
[Elinor gasps]
Olive says, MY NOTEBOOK IS ALL WET.
HOW AM I GOING TO DRAW IN IT?
Ari says, I BET MY MOM CAN HELP
YOU. COME ON!
[Laughing, croaking, upbeat music plays]
A fan blows on Olive’s notebook as she kneels beside it on a carpet. Mrs. Bat sits on a couch behind her as Elinor kneels on the floor carpet by the fan.
Mrs. Bat says, YOUR NOTEBOOK
WILL BE DRY IN NO TIME, OLIVE.
[Rustling]
Olive says, WOW, THANKS, MRS. BAT.
Mrs. Bat says, NO WORRIES.
RAIN IS WET. YOU CAN'T AVOID IT.
THE GOOD THING IS, YOU CAN
ALWAYS GET DRY.
[Page turns]
Elinor says, ALL THIS RAIN TALK
IS MAKING ME THIRSTY.
MAY WE HAVE WATER TO DRINK,
PLEASE, MRS. BAT?
Mrs. Bat says, SURE, ELINOR.
I'LL BE RIGHT BACK.
[Flapping, pages turn, gentle music plays]
Elinor says, THANKS.
Olive says, I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING.
WHEN WE WANT WATER, WE CAN JUST
GET IT FROM OUR KITCHEN OR FROM
OUR WATER BOTTLES.
BUT WHEN FROGS OR PONDS OR
SNAILS NEED WATER, THEY HAVE
TO WAIT FOR RAIN.
Elinor says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
THAT MEANS RAIN IS EXTRA
IMPORTANT TO THEM.
[Page turns]
Mrs. Bat says, AND FOR US, TOO.
WE'RE ALL PART OF THE SAME
FOREST. HERE'S SOME WATER
AND ALSO SOME RAIN GEAR AND
UMBRELLAS TO KEEP YOU ALL
DRY IF YOU GO BACK OUTSIDE.
Olive says, THANKS, MRS. BAT.
NOW THAT I KNOW THAT RAIN IS
GOOD FOR PLANTS AND ANIMALS,
IT'S SO MUCH MORE FUN TO PLAY
IN IT.
[Ari sings gibberish, Olive gasps, upbeat music plays]
Ari says, OKAY, WHO'S READY TO GO BACK
AND PLAY IN THE RAIN SOME MORE?
OOH, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME! ME. ME.
[Elinor and Olive laugh]
Elinor says, I'M READY!
Olive says, ME, TOO!
Ari says, THEN LET'S GO PLAY
IN THE RAIN!
[Door opens, birds chirp]
[Elinor and Ari gasp]
Ari asks, SUNSHINE?
Elinor asks, WHERE'D ALL THE RAIN GO?
Ari says, JUST WHEN WE GOT ALL
RAINCOAT-ED AND RAIN-BOOTED,
THERE'S NO MORE RAIN.
Olive says, AW.
[Birds chirp]
Elinor says, THAT'S OKAY.
WE CAN STILL BE RAIN DETECTIVES.
THINGS LOOK SO DIFFERENT WHEN
THEY'RE WET. LOOK.
[Water drips]
Olive says, OOH. YOU'RE RIGHT.
THE PLANTS LOOK GREENER AND
SHINIER. WHOA!
THAT SPIDER WEB HAS RAINDROPS
STICKING TO IT. IT LOOKS SO SPARKLY!
[Dripping, sniffing]
Elinor says, AND THE AIR SMELLS
REALLY FRESH.
Olive says, WOW. THE RAIN GIVES
US SO MUCH.
[Splashing]
Olive says, HEY!
[Ari laughs]
Ari stands in a puddle.
Ari says, SORRY. I JUST
COULDN'T RESIST.
[Laughing, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, THAT'S OKAY, ARI.
Olive says, I THINK YOU FOUND
THE BEST THING THAT RAIN
GIVES US: PUDDLES!
Elinor shouts, YAY!
Ari and Olive cheer, WHOO-HOO!
[Splash]
Ari shouts, YEAH!
Elinor says, HEY!
[Giggling]
Elinor says, WHOO-HOO!
[Splash]
Ari trips and says, WHOA, WHOA!
[Laughing]
Olive cheers, YAY!
[Upbeat music plays]
