At night, Elinor, Olive and Ari join Elinor’s mom, Ranger Rabbit. Fireflies fly around them.

Ari falls into a pile of leaves in the forest. Elinor laughs.
She sings, ASK A QUESTION

Olive throws leaves over her friends.

Elinor, Olive and Ari walk down a trail with Mr. Bat, who is pushing Ari’s baby sister Miri in a stroller. They walks toward a bridge. A river flows under the bridge. Elinor reads a title.

Mr. Bat says, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR A
WALK IN THE PARK!
Olive says, IT'S MORE OF A ROLL IN THE
PARK FOR MIRI.
[The three friends laughing]
Ari asks, ARE YOU HAVING FUN, LITTLE
MIRI?
[Miri giggling]
Ari says, WHO'S THE CUTEST LITTLE SISTER
IN THE WORLD?

Ari makes a silly face.
He says, AWW.

[Laughing]
Mr. Bat says, YOU KNOW, KIDS, I LOVE VISITING
THE PARK WITH MIRI BECAUSE THE
WHOLE WORLD IS NEW TO HER.
He walks onto the bridge with stroller and three friends.
He continues, LOOK AROUND AND PRETEND YOU'RE
NEW TO THE WORLD.
WHAT DO YOU NOTICE?
Olive, Ari and Elinor look around them. A monarch butterfly flies toward them.
Ari says, I SEE A BUTTERFLY!
[Olive and Elinor gasping]
The butterfly flies over Miri.
[Miri giggling]
Ari says, IT LOOKS LIKE MIRI THINKS
BUTTERFLIES ARE PRETTY COOL.
The butterfly flies over the bridge and lands on a pink flower.
Mr. Bat says, SO, KIDS, HAVE YOU DECIDED
WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IN THE PARK?
Ari says, I KNOW, LET'S DO SOME
BUTTERFLY WATCHING TODAY!
Olive says, OH!
Elinor says, YEAH!
The three friends admire the butterfly.
Ari says, I LIKE BUTTERFLIES.
THEY HAVE WINGS, JUST LIKE ME.
[Elinor and Olive giggling]
Elinor quietly says, IT'S REALLY PRETTY.
[Olive gasping]
Olive says, WAIT, LOOK!
THERE'S A CATERPILLAR ON THIS
PLANT, TOO.
The caterpillar has yellow, black and white stripes.
Olive continues, CATERPILLARS ARE MY FAVOURITE.
MAYBE WE SHOULD WATCH
CATERPILLARS INSTEAD.
Elinor says, HMM, BUTTERFLIES AND
CATERPILLARS ARE BOTH PRETTY
INTERESTING.
The butterfly flies off the flower.
Ari says, YEAH, BUT BUTTERFLIES CAN
FLY.
FLYING JUST ADDS A LITTLE EXTRA
COOLNESS.
Ari flies off the ground.
He says, YOU KNOW?
He drops to his feet. The butterfly lands back on the flower.
[The friends laughing]
Olive says, WELL, A CATERPILLAR CAN'T
FLY.
BUT LOOK HOW MANY LEGS IT HAS.
Elinor says, IF I HAD THAT MANY LEGS,
I WOULD NEVER FALL DOWN.
She stands on one foot, then falls.
She says, WHOA!
[Ari and Olive giggling]
Olive says, ELINOR, YOU'RE SO FUNNY!
Elinor asks, WHAT ELSE IS INTERESTING
ABOUT BUTTERFLIES AND
CATERPILLARS?
Ari says, WELL, BUTTERFLIES HAVE
AWESOME PATTERNS ON THEIR
WINGS.
THEY'RE SO COLOURFUL!
I WISH I HAD A SHIRT LIKE THAT.
He imagines himself wearing a shirt with patterns like the butterfly.
Olive says, TRUE, BUT JUST LOOK AT THE
CATERPILLAR'S COOL STRIPES.
I WISH I HAD A PAIR OF PANTS
WITH STRIPES LIKE THAT.
She imagines herself wearing pants with stripes like the caterpillar.
Elinor says, THEY'RE BOTH PRETTY FANCY.
Ari says, WELL, A BUTTERFLY…
The butterfly flies off the flower.
Ari says, OH!
The butterfly flies toward the bridge.
Ari says, HEY, COME BACK HERE!
I WAS TRYING TO TELL MY FRIENDS
HOW COOL YOU ARE!
QUICKLY, FOLLOW ME!
He flies after the butterfly.
[Olive and Elinor giggling]
Ari follows the butterfly onto the bridge. The butterfly lands on Miri. Olive and Elinor follow Ari.
[Olive gasping]
Olive says, IT LANDED ON MIRI'S NOSE!
Miri sneezes, and the butterfly flies away.
[Giggling]
The butterfly flutters around the three friends.
Olive says, BUTTERFLIES ARE GREAT, BUT BABY
BATS ARE PRETTY AMAZING TOO.
The butterfly lands on Miri’s stroller. Elinor frowns.
She says, YOU KNOW, I DON'T THINK I'VE
EVER SEEN A BABY BUTTERFLY.
I'VE SEEN BAT BABIES, BIRD
BABIES, BUNNY BABIES.
BUT NOT BUTTERFLY BABIES.
Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT, ELINOR!
I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER SEEN
A BABY BUTTERFLY, EITHER.
The three friends look at the butterfly.
Ari says, I WONDER WHAT BABY
BUTTERFLIES LOOK LIKE.
Elinor says, HMM, WELL, MIRI LOOKS A LOT
LIKE YOU AND YOUR DAD, ONLY
SMALLER.
[Miri babbling]
Elinor says, MAYBE BABY BUTTERFLIES LOOK JUST
LIKE GROWN-UP BUTTERFLIES, BUT
TINIER.
She imagines holding a butterfly on one finger, and a tiny butterfly on another.
She says, I KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO TODAY!
LET'S LOOK FOR BABY BUTTERFLIES!
OLIVE, IS THAT OKAY?
I KNOW YOU WANTED TO SEE
CATERPILLARS.
Olive says, HMM, THAT'S TRUE, BUT NOW I'M
REALLY CURIOUS ABOUT BABY
BUTTERFLIES.
LET'S DO IT!
Elinor says, YEAH!
Ari says, OKAY.
[Miri babbling]
The butterfly flies off Miri’s stroller.
Elinor says, LET'S FOLLOW THAT BUTTERFLY
TO SEE IF IT HAS ANY BABIES.
Ari asks, CAN WE FOLLOW THE BUTTERFLY,
DAD?
Mr. Bat says, OKAY, DON'T GO TOO FAR.
Elinor says, IT'S GETTING AWAY!
COME ON, WE NEED MORE
OBSERVATIONS.
She leads her friends off the bridge. Mr. Bat waves.
He says, HAPPY EXPLORING, KIDS!
He smiles at Miri. Elsewhere, in a forest, the three friends follow the butterfly down a trail.
[Cheerful music plays]
The friends follow the butterfly to an open field within the forest.
[Ari gasping]
Elinor says, WOW!
Olive says, OOH!
[Elinor gasping]
Other butterflies flutter around flowers in the field and around a lake.
Ari says, IT'S LIKE A BUTTERFLY PARTY!
Elinor says, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN FIND ANY
BABY BUTTERFLIES!
The friends spread out and around the field. Olive looks at butterflies in a patch of flowers.
She says, HMM, THESE ALL LOOK THE SAME
SIZE.
THEY MUST BE GROWN-UPS.
NO BUTTERFLY BABIES HERE.
Elinor looks at another group of butterflies.
She says, ANY BABIES HERE?
Elinor frowns.
She says, NOPE.
Ari flies near another group of butterflies.
He says, JUST MORE GROWN-UP
BUTTERFLIES OVER HERE.
THEY SURE ARE COOL, THOUGH!
Ari lands beside the butterflies as Elinor runs up beside him.
Elinor asks, DID ANYONE FIND ANY BABY
BUTTERFLIES?
Olive looks disappointed.
She says, I JUST SAW A BUNCH OF THOSE
ORANGE BUTTERFLIES, AND THEY ALL
LOOK LIKE GROWN-UP BUTTERFLIES.
Ari says, SAME HERE.
He points to a blue butterfly on his head. The butterfly flies away. Elinor looks sad.
She says, I WONDER WHERE ALL THE BABY
BUTTERFLIES ARE?
Ari says, MAYBE BABY BUTTERFLIES ARE
TOO TINY TO SEE?
He shrugs.
Olive says, WELL, IF THEY'RE REALLY
SMALL, WE'LL NEED OUR MAGNIFYING
GLASS TO SEE THEM.
Olive offers Elinor a magnifying glass.
She asks, DO YOU WANT TO LOOK, ELINOR?
Elinor takes the magnifying glass.
She says, SURE!
THANKS, OLIVE!
Elinor and her friends look through the magnifying glass.
She says, I SEE A BABY SPIDER STANDING
NEXT TO A GROWN-UP SPIDER.
The grown up spider and baby spider are on a plant’s leaf.
Elinor says, AWW, CUTE!
BUT IT'S NOT A BABY BUTTERFLY.
Olive frowns. Elinor moves the magnifying glass to a different leaf.
Olive says, AND HERE ARE SOME SNAILS!
THERE'S A BIG GROWN-UP SNAIL AND
TWO BABY SNAILS.
THEY'RE VERY INTERESTING, BUT
NOT BABY BUTTERFLIES.
Elinor says, HMM.
Olive asks, WHAT IF WE CAN'T SEE THE BABY
BUTTERFLIES BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL
IN THEIR HOUSES?
Ari frowns.
He says, I DON'T SEE ANY LITTLE HOUSES
AROUND.
Elinor and Olive frown.
Olive says, ME EITHER.
Elinor says, I DON'T THINK BUTTERFLIES
LIVE IN HOUSES.
I THINK THEY LIVE OUTSIDE.
Ari says, YEAH!
HOW WOULD THEY EVEN BUILD A
HOUSE?
THEY WOULD NEED A REALLY TINY
HAMMER.
He pretends to use a tiny hammer.
Ari says, DING, DING, DING, DING, DING.
[Elinor and Olive giggling]
Elinor says, WE CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY
BABY BUTTERFLIES.
I WONDER WHY NOT.
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
The three friends smile. Olive looks at a flower.
She says, HEY, LOOK, IT'S A
CATERPILLAR.
A yellow, black and white striped caterpillar crawls up the flower’s stem. The friends take a closer look.
Ari says, IT'S GOT THOSE FANCY STRIPES
LIKE WE SAW BEFORE.
The caterpillar hangs from a leaf.
Elinor says, HUH?
Olive says, WAIT, WHAT'S THE CATERPILLAR
DOING?
Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW.
Ari says, HUH.
A cocoon starts to form around the caterpillar.
[Ari gasping]
Ari says, WHOA!
WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Elinor says, IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S TURNING
GREEN.
In a timelapse, the caterpillar becomes fully cocooned.
Olive says, IT TURNED INTO SOMETHING NEW.
IT LOOKS A LITTLE LIKE A GREEN
PEA POD.
Elinor says, AND NOW IT'S JUST HANGING
THERE!
Ari says, THIS IS SO AWESOME!
Olive looks at another flower.
She says, OH, I SEE ANOTHER ONE OF
THOSE GREEN POD THINGS OVER
HERE!
The friends take a look at more cocoon pods hanging off flower stems.
Olive says, AND THERE'S ONE OVER HERE, BUT
IT'S DARKER.
A cocoon pod looks brown. It moves.
[Ari and Elinor gasping]
Olive says, WAIT, THIS ONE IS MOVING.
Ari says, WHAT?!
[Elinor gasping]
Elinor says, IT'S BREAKING OPEN!
Ari says, WHAT IS THAT?
IS IT AN ALIEN?
I THINK IT'S AN ALIEN.
Olive says, IT CAN'T BE AN ALIEN.
A butterfly leaves the cocoon.
Olive says, CAN IT?
Elinor says, WAIT, I DON'T THINK THAT'S AN
ALIEN.
Ari says, WHOA!
Elinor says, I THINK THAT'S A... A...
Together, the three friends say, BUTTERFLY!
[Olive gasping]
Elinor says, WOW!
Ari says, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!
He looks amazed.
Olive says, HUH, LET'S THINK ABOUT WHAT
WE SAW.
She takes a notebook and crayon out of her bag.
Olive says, FIRST WE SAW A CATERPILLAR.
She draws a caterpillar in her notebook.
Elinor says, AND THEN WE SAW IT TURN INTO
A KIND OF POD.
Olive draws a pod under the caterpillar drawing.
Ari says, BUT THEN WE SAW ONE OF THOSE
PODS BREAK OPEN!
AND AN ALIEN, I MEAN,
A BUTTERFLY, CAME OUT.
Olive draws a butterfly under the pod.
She says, BUT WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
Elinor says, HMM, I THINK THAT THE
CATERPILLARS TURN INTO
BUTTERFLIES.
[Ari and Olive gasping]
Elinor takes the notebook from Olive.
She says, FIRST THE CATERPILLAR TURNS INTO
THIS POD-LIKE THING.
THEN AFTER AWHILE, IT TURNS INTO
A BUTTERFLY.
She points to Olive’s drawings.
Ari says, OH!
Elinor says, BUT THAT WOULD MEAN…
Olive says, THE BUTTERFLY BABIES WEREN'T
MISSING.
THEY WERE RIGHT IN FRONT OF US
THIS WHOLE TIME.
Elinor says, CATERPILLARS ARE BABY
BUTTERFLIES!
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
Ari says, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
BABY BUTTERFLIES ARE
CATERPILLARS!
Another caterpillar crawls up the flower stem.
Olive says, AND CATERPILLARS TURN INTO
BUTTERFLIES!
Ari says, WAIT, OLIVE, I JUST REALIZED
SOMETHING!
IF CATERPILLARS TURN INTO
BUTTERFLIES, THEN THAT MEANS...
Olive says, THAT THE ANIMAL I LIKE…
Ari says, AND THE ANIMAL I LIKE…
Together, Olive and Ari say, ARE THE SAME ANIMAL!
Elinor says, YOU BOTH SURE KNOW HOW TO
PICK COOL ANIMALS TO WATCH.
Ari and Olive high-five. The three friends dance together.
They sing, CATERPILLARS CHANGE
AS THEY GROW.
THEY TURN INTO BUTTERFLIES,
NOW WE KNOW.
Olive looks at a caterpillar.
She sings, HERE'S A CATERPILLAR,
WATCH IT CLIMB UP.
IT WIGGLES AND WIGGLES
AND TURNS INTO A POD.
The three friends sing, CATERPILLARS CHANGE
AS THEY GROW.
THEY TURN INTO BUTTERFLIES,
NOW WE KNOW.
A green pod turns brown.
Ari sings, THE POD SITS STILL
THEN IT OPENS WIDE.
WHAT COMES OUT?
A GROWN-UP BUTTERFLY.
The three friends sing, CATERPILLARS CHANGE
AS THEY GROW.
THEY TURN INTO BUTTERFLIES,
NOW WE KNOW.
Arrows connect a caterpillar to a cocoon pod and then a butterfly.
The three friends sing, AND NOW WE KNOW.
Back at the bridge, Mr. Bat pushes Miri’s stroller onto the trail. Ari comes running over.
He says, DAD, DAD, DAD!
Olive and Elinor follow.
Ari says, GUESS WHAT?!
WE WENT LOOKING FOR BABY
BUTTERFLIES BUT WE COULDN'T FIND
ANY!
[Ari panting]
Olive says, YEAH, THAT'S BECAUSE WE WERE
LOOKING FOR TINY BUTTERFLIES,
BUT THEN WE FOUND OUT…
Elinor says, …CATERPILLARS ARE THE BABY
BUTTERFLIES!
Ari says, THEY CHANGE INTO A POD AND
THEN A BUTTERFLY COMES OUT.
Mr. Bat says, WOW!
YOU FIGURED THAT OUT BY
YOURSELVES?
Ari says, YEAH, WE DID IT BY MAKING
OBSERVATIONS!
A butterfly flies over the friends.
Mr. Bat says, WHAT SMART SCIENTISTS YOU
ARE!
The butterfly lands on the flowers near the bridge.
[The three friends cheering]
Elinor says, MR. BAT, IT'S AMAZING THAT
BABY BATS LIKE MIRI LOOK A LOT
LIKE GROWN-UP BATS, BUT
CATERPILLARS LOOK REALLY
DIFFERENT FROM BUTTERFLIES.
Mr. Bat says, YES, ELINOR, SOME ANIMALS
HAVE BABIES THAT LOOK JUST LIKE
THEIR PARENTS, AND SOME ANIMALS
HAVE BABIES THAT GO THROUGH A
BIG CHANGE.
WHEN AN ANIMAL MAKES A BIG
CHANGE, IT'S CALLED A
METAMORPHOSIS.
Olive says, META-MORPH-OSIS?
I LIKE THAT WORD!
The butterfly flies off the flowers and lands on Miri’s head.
[Miri giggling]
Elinor says, AWW.
Ari says, YOU KNOW, WITH MIRI ALL
SNUGGLED UP IN HERE BLANKET, SHE
KINDA LOOKS LIKE A CATERPILLAR.
I WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF
SHE TURNED INTO A BUTTERFLY.
Mr. Bat says, WELL, IF SHE DID, SHE'D STILL
BE ADORABLE, JUST LIKE HER
BROTHER.
AND THEIR DAD.
[The three friends laughing]
Elsewhere in the forest, Ari flies with a group of butterflies.
He says, LOOK AT ALL THE BUTTERFLIES!
Olive says, AND THEY'RE ALL FLYING IN THE
SAME DIRECTION.
Olive, Ari and Elinor are sitting in the forest with Senor Tapir.
Elinor asks, WHERE ARE THEY ALL GOING?
Senor Tapir says, GOOD QUESTION, ELINOR.
I HAVE A SONG ABOUT TWO
SCIENTISTS WHO FIGURED THAT OUT.
He strums his guitar.
He sings, FRED AND NORAH URQUHART
WERE HUSBAND AND WIFE,
WHO BOTH REALLY LOVED
BEING OUTSIDE.
Fred and Norah Urquhart, as rabbits, gesture to a map of America.
Senor Tapir sings, THEY LIVED UP NORTH IN CANADA
WHERE BRIGHT SUMMER SKIES
WERE FILLED WITH MONARCH
BUTTERFLIES.
Monarch butterflies fly over Fred and Norah in a forest.
Senor Tapir sings, BUT EVERY YEAR,
BEFORE IT WOULD FREEZE,
THE BUTTERFLIES ALL FLEW AWAY
IN THE BREEZE.

Senor Tapir puts down his guitar.
He says, ADIOS, BUTTERFLY AMIGOS!
He waves as the butterflies in the forest fly away.
[Exciting music plays]
In a dark stadium, Elinor jumps onto a circus podium with a crowd in the seats behind her. She wears a top hat and bow tie. She reads a title.
She reads, ELINOR’S CIRCUS.
A spot light shines on Elinor.
She says, LADIES AND GENTLE-ANIMALS!
FRIENDS OF ALL AGES!
WELCOME TO THE ANIMAL TOWN
CIRCUS!
FEATURING THE AMAZING ARI!
[Cheering and applause]
Ari rides a unicycle past Elinor. He wears a helmet decorated with stars, and a giant polka dot bow tie. Olive walks toward Elinor on stilts. She wears a pink helmet with a bow and a pink skirt.
Elinor announces, OLIVE THE AWESOME!
[Cheering and applause]
Olive waves and continues past Elinor. Elinor jumps off the podium.
She says, AND…
Elinor climbs up a post.
She says, …ME!
THE EXTRAORDINARY...
Elinor bounces on a tightrope.
She announces, ELINOR!
Olive says, ELINOR?
Elinor frowns. An imagination bubble showing Elinor in the circus fades away.
In a forest, Olive repeats, ELINOR?!
Elinor’s eyes are closed.
She opens them and says, HUH?
[Olive giggling]
Olive says, YOU WERE DAYDREAMING.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF OUR CIRCUS
TENT?
Logs and stumps create a circle around a tree in the forest. Red and yellow streamers connect the tree to others in the forest.
Elinor says, WOW, THAT LOOKS GREAT!
Ari flies another streamer to the centre tree.
Elinor says, OUR CIRCUS SHOW IS GOING TO BE
AMAZING.
Olive says, I KNOW!
I HOPE EVERYONE LOVES IT.
Ari says, OF COURSE THEY'LL LOVE IT.
He lands beside his friends.
He says, AFTER ALL, WE HAVE A REAL CIRCUS
TENT.
Ari runs over to a star helmet and unicycle.
He continues, AND A REAL CIRCUS UNICYCLE.
AND A SUPER FANCY CIRCUS HELMET!
Ari grabs the helmet.
He asks, WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?
Elinor says, A UNICYCLE RIDER?
[Elinor and Olive giggling]
Ari says, I'LL BE RIDING IT BY
SHOW TIME.
I'M SURE I CAN LEARN HOW TO USE
IT.
Ari wears his helmet.

She uses a log as a tightrope. She steps onto the log and takes a wobbly step forward.
Elinor says, WHOA!
She takes another step forward.
[Elinor grunting]
Elinor stumbles off the log and lands on her knees.
She says, WHOA!
Elinor gets to her feet and looks back at the log.
She says, THIS IS TRICKIER THAN I THOUGHT.
Ari says, TELL ME ABOUT IT.
He holds onto a tree while sitting on his unicycle.
Ari says, I CAN GET ON MY UNICYCLE AND
PUSH OFF, BUT THEN LOOK WHAT
HAPPENS.
He pushes away from the tree. He rolls across the grass on the unicycle.
Ari says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
AUGH, I TIP OVER!
[Ari shouting]
Ari flips off the unicycle.
He yells, WHOA!
Ari falls on his back.
He grunts, OOF.
Olive says, I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
She wears a pink helmet with a bow.

She balances on her stilts and tries to take a step forward.

Olive wobbles on her stilts.

In the distance, a voice says, HI!
Elinor says, HUH?
She and her friends look to their right.
Elinor says, OH, HI.
She smiles and waves toward a grey haired squirrel who wears a brown shirt and shorts.
They say, I'M SIGGY, IT'S SHORT FOR
SIGMUND.
Siggy runs over to the three friends.
He says, I JUST MOVED HERE.
Elinor says, I'M ELINOR, THIS IS ARI, AND
OLIVE.
Olive says, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Ari says, HI.
Siggy looks around.
He asks, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Olive says, WE'RE PUTTING ON A CIRCUS.
Siggy says, HMM.
Olive says, IT'S LIKE A SHOW WHERE WE DO
FUN TRICKS.
WANT TO JOIN US?
Siggy says, YEAH!
CAN I WATCH?
I LOVE CLAPPING AND CHEERING SO

He looks excited.

The group splits up. Olive gets back onto her stilts.
She says, WHOA!
Siggy jumps onto one of the stump seats.
[Siggy grunting]
Siggy cheers, GO, ELINOR!
[Siggy giggling]
Siggy says, I'M, UH, PRACTICING MY CHEERING?
His seat wobbles.
Siggy quietly cheers, YAY!
His seat wobbles again.
He says, HMM.
I'M GONNA TRY ANOTHER SEAT.
Siggy jumps off his seat. Elinor frowns at her tightrope log. She takes a deep breath and hops onto the log.
[Elinor grunting]
Elinor takes a few steps across the log then wobbles slightly.
She says, WHOA!
Elinor regains her balance and tries to take another step.
She says, WHOA, WHOA!
Elinor falls off the log.
She grunts, OOF!
[Elinor sighing loudly]
Elinor asks, WHY DO I KEEP FALLING OFF?
Olive says, WAIT, I HAVE SOMETHING THAT
CAN HELP!
She grabs her bag from behind a tree.
She says, COSTUMES!

Ari has a polka dot bow tie. Elinor has a purple top hat and bow tie. Olive has a pink skirt.

The three friends put on their costumes.
Siggy says, NICE!

Siggy’s stump seat wobbles.
He says, WHOA!
He frowns hops off the stump. He takes a seat on a half log bench.
Olive says, I FEEL CIRCUS-Y.

PART OF A CIRCUS.
MAYBE THIS WILL HELP US.
Ari says, ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
He runs and grabs his unicycle. Ari sits on the unicycle with one foot on the ground and one hand on a tree. He takes a deep breath.
He says, OKAY, HERE GOES.
YOU CAN DO THIS, ARI.
Ari pushes away from the tree.
He cheers, WHOO-HOO!
I'M DOING IT, I'M DOING IT!
Ari starts to roll backward on the unicycle.
He says, WHOA, OH!

He loses his balance and flips off the unicycle.

Elinor cautiously takes a step forward on the log. She slips and falls off. Her top hat falls off.

She puts her hat back on.
She says, HMM, THE COSTUMES DIDN'T REALLY
HELP US STAY UP.
Ari and Olive help Elinor to her feet.
Ari says, WE LOOK REALLY COOL, THOUGH.
Olive asks, WHAT ELSE CAN WE TRY?
A yellow streamer slips off a tree branch.
Ari says, WHOOPS, A STREAMER CAME
UNTIED.
Siggy says, I'LL DO IT!
I CAN PUT IT BACK.
Siggy grabs the streamer. The three friends look surprised.
Siggy cheers, WHOO!
He hops across stump seats near the tree.
He cheers, WHOO!

Siggy hops onto the tree branch. He easily walks across it and ties the streamer to a branch above it.
Elinor says, WAIT A SECOND!
SIGGY, HOW DO YOU DO THAT?
Siggy says, DO WHAT, TIE A KNOT?
EASY, I WAS A SQUIRREL SCOUT.
Elinor says, NO, I MEAN HOW DID YOU SKIP
OVER AND WALK ACROSS THAT BRANCH
LIKE THAT WITHOUT TIPPING OVER?
Siggy says, OH, THAT?
IT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT US
SQUIRRELS DO TO KEEP FROM
FALLING OVER.
MY MOM CALLS IT BALANCING.
Olive says, BALANCING, I'VE HEARD THAT
WORD.
Elinor asks, HOW DO YOU DO IT?
Siggy says, WELL, I JUST TRY TO MAKE SURE
I DON'T LEAN MY BODY OVER TOO
FAR TO ONE SIDE.
AND IF I START TO FEEL MYSELF
TIPPING OVER, I TRY TO MOVE PART
OF MY BODY TO THE OTHER SIDE TO
KEEP ME UP.
He demonstrates how he balances.

Ari frowns and looks at his unicycle.

He looks nervous. He picks up his unicycle and smiles. He leans against the tree beside him and sits on the unicycle.

Elinor says, ARI, PUT YOUR WING OUT TO THE

Ari spreads his wings out.

She sits on a half log bench with Siggy and Ari. Elinor looks thoughtfully at the tightrope log.

AND EARS.
Elinor wiggles her ears.
She says, I'LL TRY THAT!
Elinor steps onto the branch. She spreads out her arms and ears, then takes a small step forward.
She says, IT... IT…IT'S WORKING!
Half way across the log, Elinor starts to lose her balance.
She says, WHOA, AUGH!
She falls off, but lands on her feet. She looks at her arms.
Elinor says, WELL, IT HELPS, ANYWAY.
I WISH MY ARMS AND EARS WERE
LONGER.
I BET THAT WOULD HELP ME BALANCE
MORE.
[Olive giggling]
Olive says, IT WOULD BE FUNNIER.
She imagines Elinor with extra-long ears and arms.

By the log, Elinor taps her chin thoughtfully.

Elinor looks around.

Elinor holds the branch in front of her and takes a deep breath. She smiles and hops onto the tightrope log. She takes a step forward and wobbles slightly.

Her friends join her.

She leads her friends off the bridge. Mr. Bat waves.

He smiles at Miri. Elsewhere, in a forest, the three friends follow the butterfly down a trail.
[Cheerful music plays]
The friends follow the butterfly to an open field within the forest.
[Ari gasping]
Elinor says, WOW!
Olive says, OOH!

Other butterflies flutter around flowers in the field and around a lake.
Ari says, IT'S LIKE A BUTTERFLY PARTY!
Elinor says, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN FIND ANY
BABY BUTTERFLIES!
The friends spread out and around the field. Olive looks at butterflies in a patch of flowers.
She says, HMM, THESE ALL LOOK THE SAME
SIZE.
THEY MUST BE GROWN-UPS.
NO BUTTERFLY BABIES HERE.
Elinor looks at another group of butterflies.
She says, ANY BABIES HERE?
Elinor frowns.
She says, NOPE.
Ari flies near another group of butterflies.
He says, JUST MORE GROWN-UP
BUTTERFLIES OVER HERE.
THEY SURE ARE COOL, THOUGH!
Ari lands beside the butterflies as Elinor runs up beside him.
Elinor asks, DID ANYONE FIND ANY BABY
BUTTERFLIES?
Olive looks disappointed.
She says, I JUST SAW A BUNCH OF THOSE
ORANGE BUTTERFLIES, AND THEY ALL
LOOK LIKE GROWN-UP BUTTERFLIES.
Ari says, SAME HERE.
He points to a blue butterfly on his head. The butterfly flies away. Elinor looks sad.
She says, I WONDER WHERE ALL THE BABY
BUTTERFLIES ARE?
Ari says, MAYBE BABY BUTTERFLIES ARE
TOO TINY TO SEE?
He shrugs.
Olive says, WELL, IF THEY'RE REALLY
SMALL, WE'LL NEED OUR MAGNIFYING
GLASS TO SEE THEM.
Olive offers Elinor a magnifying glass.
She asks, DO YOU WANT TO LOOK, ELINOR?
Elinor takes the magnifying glass.
She says, SURE!

Elinor and her friends look through the magnifying glass.
She says, I SEE A BABY SPIDER STANDING
NEXT TO A GROWN-UP SPIDER.
The grown up spider and baby spider are on a plant’s leaf.
Elinor says, AWW, CUTE!
BUT IT'S NOT A BABY BUTTERFLY.
Olive frowns. Elinor moves the magnifying glass to a different leaf.
Olive says, AND HERE ARE SOME SNAILS!
THERE'S A BIG GROWN-UP SNAIL AND
TWO BABY SNAILS.
THEY'RE VERY INTERESTING, BUT
NOT BABY BUTTERFLIES.
Elinor says, HMM.
Olive asks, WHAT IF WE CAN'T SEE THE BABY
BUTTERFLIES BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL
IN THEIR HOUSES?
Ari frowns.
He says, I DON'T SEE ANY LITTLE HOUSES
AROUND.
Elinor and Olive frown.
Olive says, ME EITHER.
Elinor says, I DON'T THINK BUTTERFLIES
LIVE IN HOUSES.
I THINK THEY LIVE OUTSIDE.

HOW WOULD THEY EVEN BUILD A
HOUSE?
THEY WOULD NEED A REALLY TINY

He pretends to use a tiny hammer.

THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
The three friends smile. Olive looks at a flower.
She says, HEY, LOOK, IT'S A
CATERPILLAR.
A yellow, black and white striped caterpillar crawls up the flower’s stem. The friends take a closer look.
Ari says, IT'S GOT THOSE FANCY STRIPES
LIKE WE SAW BEFORE.
The caterpillar hangs from a leaf.
Elinor says, HUH?
Olive says, WAIT, WHAT'S THE CATERPILLAR
DOING?
Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW.
Ari says, HUH.
A cocoon starts to form around the caterpillar.
[Ari gasping]
Ari says, WHOA!
WHAT'S HAPPENING?
Elinor says, IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S TURNING
GREEN.
In a timelapse, the caterpillar becomes fully cocooned.
Olive says, IT TURNED INTO SOMETHING NEW.

The friends take a look at more cocoon pods hanging off flower stems.

A cocoon pod looks brown. It moves.
[Ari and Elinor gasping]
Olive says, WAIT, THIS ONE IS MOVING.
Ari says, WHAT?!
[Elinor gasping]

Ari says, WHAT IS THAT?

A butterfly leaves the cocoon.

Ari rides a unicycle past Elinor. He wears a helmet decorated with stars, and a giant polka dot bow tie. Olive walks toward Elinor on stilts. She wears a pink helmet with a bow and a pink skirt.

Olive waves and continues past Elinor. Elinor jumps off the podium.

A log is held off the ground by rocks.

THE BRAVE TIGHTROPE WALKER!
She uses a log as a tightrope. She steps onto the log and takes a wobbly step forward.
Elinor says, WHOA!
She takes another step forward.
[Elinor grunting]
Elinor stumbles off the log and lands on her knees.
She says, WHOA!
Elinor gets to her feet and looks back at the log.
She says, THIS IS TRICKIER THAN I THOUGHT.
Ari says, TELL ME ABOUT IT.
He holds onto a tree while sitting on his unicycle.
Ari says, I CAN GET ON MY UNICYCLE AND
PUSH OFF, BUT THEN LOOK WHAT
HAPPENS.
He pushes away from the tree. He rolls across the grass on the unicycle.

AUGH, I TIP OVER!
[Ari shouting]
Ari flips off the unicycle.

She balances on her stilts and tries to take a step forward.

Olive wobbles on her stilts.

She stumbles and slips off the stilts.

In the distance, a voice says, HI!

She and her friends look to their right.
Elinor says, OH, HI.
She smiles and waves toward a grey haired squirrel who wears a brown shirt and shorts.
They say, I'M SIGGY, IT'S SHORT FOR
SIGMUND.
Siggy runs over to the three friends.
He says, I JUST MOVED HERE.
Elinor says, I'M ELINOR, THIS IS ARI, AND
OLIVE.
Olive says, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Ari says, HI.
Siggy looks around.
He asks, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Olive says, WE'RE PUTTING ON A CIRCUS.
Siggy says, HMM.
Olive says, IT'S LIKE A SHOW WHERE WE DO
FUN TRICKS.
WANT TO JOIN US?
Siggy says, YEAH!
CAN I WATCH?
I LOVE CLAPPING AND CHEERING SO

He looks excited.

The group splits up. Olive gets back onto her stilts.
She says, WHOA!
Siggy jumps onto one of the stump seats.
[Siggy grunting]

Siggy says, I'M, UH, PRACTICING MY CHEERING?
His seat wobbles.
Siggy quietly cheers, YAY!
His seat wobbles again.
He says, HMM.
I'M GONNA TRY ANOTHER SEAT.
Siggy jumps off his seat. Elinor frowns at her tightrope log. She takes a deep breath and hops onto the log.
[Elinor grunting]
Elinor takes a few steps across the log then wobbles slightly.
She says, WHOA!
Elinor regains her balance and tries to take another step.
She says, WHOA, WHOA!
Elinor falls off the log.
She grunts, OOF!
[Elinor sighing loudly]
Elinor asks, WHY DO I KEEP FALLING OFF?
Olive says, WAIT, I HAVE SOMETHING THAT
CAN HELP!
She grabs her bag from behind a tree.
She says, COSTUMES!

Ari has a polka dot bow tie. Elinor has a purple top hat and bow tie. Olive has a pink skirt.

The three friends put on their costumes.

He frowns hops off the stump. He takes a seat on a half log bench.
Olive says, I FEEL CIRCUS-Y.

PART OF A CIRCUS.
MAYBE THIS WILL HELP US.
Ari says, ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
He runs and grabs his unicycle. Ari sits on the unicycle with one foot on the ground and one hand on a tree. He takes a deep breath.
He says, OKAY, HERE GOES.
YOU CAN DO THIS, ARI.
Ari pushes away from the tree.
He cheers, WHOO-HOO!
I'M DOING IT, I'M DOING IT!
Ari starts to roll backward on the unicycle.
He says, WHOA, OH!
WHOA!
He loses his balance and flips off the unicycle.
Ari grunts, AUGH!

He frowns at the unicycle.
Ari says, NOPE, STILL NOT DOING IT.
Siggy says, GOOD TRY, GOOD TRY, ARI!
He claps.

She gets on her stilts.

Elinor looks worried. She nervously steps onto the tightrope log.

Elinor cautiously takes a step forward on the log. She slips and falls off. Her top hat falls off.

She puts her hat back on.

HELP US STAY UP.
Ari and Olive help Elinor to her feet.
Ari says, WE LOOK REALLY COOL, THOUGH.

A yellow streamer slips off a tree branch.

Siggy grabs the streamer. The three friends look surprised.

He hops across stump seats near the tree.

Siggy hops onto the tree branch. He easily walks across it and ties the streamer to a branch above it.
Elinor says, WAIT A SECOND!

EASY, I WAS A SQUIRREL SCOUT.
Elinor says, NO, I MEAN HOW DID YOU SKIP

He demonstrates how he balances.

MAYBE IT'S SOMETHING WE CAN TRY
FOR OUR CIRCUS TRICKS.
Ari frowns and looks at his unicycle.
He says, BUT I DON'T HAVE A TAIL LIKE
SIGGY DOES.
Siggy says, NO, BUT YOU HAVE YOUR WINGS.
YOU COULD USE THEM TO HELP YOU
BALANCE.
Ari says, OKAY.
PHEW!
He looks nervous. He picks up his unicycle and smiles. He leans against the tree beside him and sits on the unicycle.
Ari says, HERE GOES!
He pushes away from the tree. He wobbles on the unicycle.
He says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
Elinor says, ARI, PUT YOUR WING OUT TO THE
OTHER SIDE!
Ari spreads his wings out.
He says, WHOA!
AUGH!
[Ari shouting]
Ari wobbles slightly but keeps his balance on the unicycle. He rides past Elinor and Olive.
He says, OH!
Ari confidently rides the unicycle.
[Ari laughing]
Ari says, PHEW!
IT WORKED!
[Elinor, Olive and Siggy cheering]
Ari says, I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA FALL!
Olive says, BUT YOU DIDN'T.
Elinor says, YEP, YOU WERE TIPPING ONE WAY
BUT THEN YOU PUT YOUR WING OUT
THE OTHER WAY AND YOU STAYED UP!
THAT'S SO INTERESTING!
Olive says, I WANT TO TRY IT NOW.
MAYBE I CAN USE MY TRUNK TO
BALANCE!
She grabs her stilts.
She says, OKAY.
Olive gets on her stilts and starts to wobble.
She says, WHOA, WHOA...
Olive starts to lose her balance.
She says, WHOA, WHOA!
Elinor says, OLIVE, MOVE YOUR TRUNK IN
FRONT OF YOU!
Olive takes a few steps forward on her stilts. She starts to lose her balance, then sticks her trunk out.
She says, WHOA...
Olive stops wobbling on her stilts.
She says, OH, OH!
Olive confidently walks on her stilts.
She says, OH, HEH!
She steps off her stilts.
She says, I DIDN'T FALL!
Elinor says, IT WORKED!
Olive says, I JUST REACHED THE OTHER WAY
WITH MY TRUNK AND I STAYED UP!
Ari says, THAT WAS SO COOL!
Olive says, MAYBE THIS STILT-WALKING
THING ISN'T SO HARD AFTER ALL.
THANKS, SIGGY.
Siggy says, AH, IT'S AS EASY AS FALLING
OFF A LOG.
I MEAN, NOT FALLING OFF A LOG.
Elinor says, HMM, WELL, I DON'T HAVE WINGS
AND I DON'T HAVE A TRUNK.
She looks thoughtful.
She says, BUT I AM THE EXTRAORDINARY
ELINOR!
Siggy hops down from the tree branch.
Ari says, YOU CAN DO IT, ELINOR!
WE KNOW YOU CAN!
Elinor’s friends step back from Elinor’s tightrope log.
Olive says, WE'LL CHEER YOU ON FROM OVER
HERE!
She sits on a half log bench with Siggy and Ari. Elinor looks thoughtfully at the tightrope log.
She says, HMM, I DO HAVE MY ARMS.
AND EARS.
Elinor wiggles her ears.
She says, I'LL TRY THAT!
Elinor steps onto the branch. She spreads out her arms and ears, then takes a small step forward.
She says, IT... IT…IT'S WORKING!
Half way across the log, Elinor starts to lose her balance.
She says, WHOA, AUGH!
She falls off, but lands on her feet. She looks at her arms.
Elinor says, WELL, IT HELPS, ANYWAY.
I WISH MY ARMS AND EARS WERE
LONGER.
I BET THAT WOULD HELP ME BALANCE
MORE.
[Olive giggling]
Olive says, IT WOULD BE FUNNIER.
She imagines Elinor with extra-long ears and arms.
[Imaginary Elinor giggling]
In Olive’s imagination, Elinor says, YEAH.
By the log, Elinor taps her chin thoughtfully.
She says, I WONDER HOW I CAN GET LONGER
ARMS.
HMM...
Elinor looks around.
[Elinor gasping]
Elinor grabs a long branch off the ground.
She says, LIKE THIS!
MAYBE THIS WILL HELP.
DRUM ROLL, PLEASE!
[Ari imitating a drum roll]
[Ari imitating a cymbal crashing]
Elinor holds the branch in front of her and takes a deep breath. She smiles and hops onto the tightrope log. She takes a step forward and wobbles slightly.
Elinor says, WHOA...
She steadies herself.
[Elinor grunting]
Elinor continues across the log to the other side.
She cheers, YES!
I DID IT, I REALLY DID IT!
Her friends join her.
Elinor says, I FELT I WAS FALLING ONE WAY,
SO I MOVED THE STICK THE OTHER
WAY AND I DIDN'T FALL!
Olive says, YOU BALANCED!
She balances on one foot.
Elinor says, WE ALL BALANCED!
ALL THANKS TO SIGGY.
Siggy whispers in Ari’s ear.
[Ari giggling]
Ari says, YEP, NOW WE CAN CHEER.
[The friends cheering]
Elinor stands in the centre of the streamer circus tent with audience members on the stump and log seats around her.
Elinor announces, LADIES AND GENTLE-ANIMALS!
LET THE GREATEST SHOW IN ANIMAL
TOWN BEGIN!
[Exciting music plays]
Ari pushes himself away from a tree on his unicycle with his arms and wings spread out.
He and his friends sing, TO NOT FALL DOWN WHEN YOU RIDE,
JUST STAY EVEN ON EVERY SIDE.
IT'S EASIER TO SPREAD OUT WIDE,
YOU CAN BALANCE IF YOU TRY.
The audience claps as Ari rides his unicycle.
The friends sing, A BIG LONG TAIL WILL HELP
A LOT,
TO KEEP YOU BALANCED
ON ONE SPOT,
JUST PUT IT OVER,
WHERE YOU'RE NOT.
YOU CAN BALANCE IF YOU TRY!
Siggy balances on a stump seat.
[Audience clapping]
The friends sing, A GOOD LONG STICK
CAN HELP YOU OUT.
Elinor holds her balancing stick.
Olive sings, I LIKE TO USE
MY NICE LONG SNOUT!
She walks on her stilts.
The friends sing, STAYING UP IS WHAT
IT'S ALL ABOUT.
YOU CAN BALANCE IF YOU TRY!
Olive walks away on her stilts. Elinor hops onto her tightrope log with her balancing stick.
The friends sing, JUST PRACTICE HARD
AND THERE'S NO DOUBT.
Elinor confidently crosses the tightrope log.
The friends sing, YOU CAN BALANCE IF YOU TRY!
They balance together.
[Audience clapping and cheering]
Olive leans her stilts against a tree as Elinor joins Ari on a rock in the centre of the streamer tent.
Elinor says, SIGGY, WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE
IT WITHOUT YOU!
Siggy looks around. He points to himself and furrows his brow.
He says, UH...
Elinor says, COME TAKE A BOW!
Siggy says, OKAY!
He joins Elinor, Ari and Olive.
[Cheering]
Siggy says, THANKS!
THANKS, EVERYBODY!
Siggy takes a bow.
[Elinor, Ari and Olive giggling]
[Audience cheering]
[Soft, cheerful music plays]
