Ranger Rabbit, Mr. Rabbit, Elinor, Ari and Olive wear swimsuits. Ranger Rabbit and Mr. Rabbit carry blue folding chairs under their arms. He wears black sunglasses and carries a basket. Ranger Rabbit and Elinor each wear a swim cap. The children wear lifejackets over their swimsuits. The children run past the adults.

Ranger Rabbit reaches into a blue duffle bag. She takes out a golden trophy with a swimming rabbit on top.

Mr. Rabbit dances and flops into his chair.

Ranger Rabbit takes three pairs of goggles out of the duffel bag.

Ari says, ME, TOO.
FAST AS A FISH.
Olive says, I'M GOING TO SWIM
AS FAST AS TWO FISH IN A FISH RACE.
[Ranger Rabbit chuckles]
Ranger Rabbit says, OKAY, KIDS.
I'M GOING TO GO SWIM IN THE
DEEP PART OF THE LAKE.
YOU STAY IN THE SHALLOW PART.
MR. RABBIT WILL KEEP AN EYE
ON YOU.

Ranger Rabbit, Elinor, Ari and Olive wade into the water. Olive sprays water with her trunk.

[Grunting, splashing, panting, exciting music plays]

Elinor throws her goggles beside a duck on the shoreline.

Olive falls backwards on to a plate. A carrot flies up into the air and lands by a frog.
[Slide whistle]

BETWEEN ITS TOES.
Elinor says, YES. ITS TOES ARE
JOINED TOGETHER WITH SKIN, TOO.
THAT IS SO INTERESTING. HMM.
I WONDER WHY SOME ANIMALS HAVE
TOES LIKE THAT, AND OTHERS DON'T.
[Upbeat music plays]
She says, WE NEED MORE OBSERVATIONS.

[Frogs croak, birds chirp]
Olive says, THERE'S A ROBIN.

Elinor says, LOOK. THIS TURTLE'S
TOES ARE JOINED BY SKIN.
[Splash]
Ari shouts, ELINOR, OLIVE?
I FOUND AN ANIMAL WITH REALLY
WEIRD TOES.
Ari looks down at a worm.
[Elinor and Olive giggle, happy music plays]
Olive says, ARI, IT'S A WORM.
Ari says, I KNOW. IT DOESN'T
HAVE ANY TOES AT ALL.
[Giggling]
Elinor says, OKAY.
SOME ANIMALS HAVE SKIN THAT
JOINS THEIR TOES, AND SOME DON'T.

Olive says, LET'S MAKE A LIST AND
SEE IF WE CAN FIGURE IT OUT.
Olive uses a stick to draw a chart in the sand. She draws a webbed foot at the top of one column and a foot with toes at the top of the second column.
[Rustling]

Elinor says, DUCKS HAVE JOINED TOES.

[Rustling, gentle music plays]

Elinor takes the swim fins from her mother. She, Olive and Ari run back to the edge of the water.

Olive puts the swimming fins on her feet.

The children run into the water.

Another day, Koa, Elinor and Olive watch a small green turtle swim in a stream.

Señor Tapir stands behind the children. He holds his acoustic guitar.

Four turtles surface in the stream.
[Splash, children laugh]

Another day, Koa, Elinor and Olive watch a small green turtle swim in a stream.

Señor Tapir stands behind the children. He holds his acoustic guitar.

Mary wipes dirt off a rock with a brush.

[Bubbling]

DIGGING AROUND, AND SHE FOUND
AMAZING NEW ANIMALS BURIED
IN THE GROUND.
Four turtles surface in the stream.
[Splash, children laugh]

Mr. Rabbit naps in a chair by a small purple tent and a large green tent. Ranger Rabbit tends to a pot on a rock.
[Snoring]
Olive and Elinor peek out of the purple tent. They hold colourful paper flowers on craft sticks.
[Relaxing music plays, children giggle]

Olive nods.
[Snoring]
Elinor shouts, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DADDY.
Olive shouts, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. RABBIT.
Mr. Rabbit says, WHAT, WHAT?

Elinor says, IT'S US.

Olive gives the flowers to Mr. Rabbit.

[Mr. Rabbit sniffs the paper flowers]

Mr. Rabbit says, OH.

Ranger Rabbit gives Mr. Rabbit a purple mug.

Elinor hugs her father.

Olive picks up a jam jar and tips it over her head.
[Scraping]
Olive says, UH-OH.
THE JAM JAR IS EMPTY.
[Harmonica plays]
Elinor says, WHAT?
NO STRAWBERRY JAM?
THAT'S DAD'S FAVOURITE THING
TO PUT ON HIS TOAST.

Ranger Rabbit says, SORRY, SWEETIE.

THE FOREST.

[Mr. Rabbit muncing, gulps, Elinor sighs]
Later, Elinor and Olive wash dishes in a large pan.

[Sighs]

Olive and Elinor run to a grassy field.

[Birds chirp]
Olive says, OOH, LOOK AT THESE, ELINOR.

Elinor and Olive look at white berries.

Olive says, BUT THEY'RE SMALL

SMALLER. I'VE NEVER HEARD OF

[Elinor gasps]
Elinor walks to a strawberry plant.
[Happy music plays]
She says, NOW, THESE ARE STRAWBERRIES.
Olive says, YEP. THEY'RE SHAPED
LIKE STRAWBERRIES AND THEY'RE
BIG AND RED.
Elinor says, BUT WAIT.
WHAT ABOUT THE GREEN AND
WHITE BERRIES WE FOUND?
WHAT ARE THOSE?
Olive says, I'M NOT SURE.
COULD THEY BE STRAWBERRIES, TOO?
Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW.
Olive says, DUN-DUN-DUN.
SOUNDS LIKE A STRAWBERRY MYSTERY.
Elinor says, WE NEED
MORE OBSERVATIONS.
Olive says, OKAY. LET'S SEE. FIRST,
WE FOUND THESE WHITE STRAWBERRIES.
Elinor says, THEN WE FOUND
THE SMALL GREEN ONES.
Olive says, THEN WE FOUND THE RED ONES.

[Gasps]
Olive says, I THINK YOU COULD
BE RIGHT, ELINOR.
Ranger Rabbit says, HI, KIDS.
Elinor says, MOM, WE FOUND STRAWBERRIES.
Olive says, AT LEAST WE THINK
THEY'RE ALL STRAWBERRIES.
THAT'S WHAT WE OBSERVED.
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, SEE?
THE SMALL ONES ARE GREEN, AND
THE MEDIUM-SIZED ONES ARE

Olive says, WE THINK MAYBE THE
STRAWBERRIES CHANGE THEIR
COLOUR AS THEY GROW.
Ranger Rabbit says, GREAT THINKING,

White flowers appear in a thought bubble over Ranger Rabbit’s head.
[Popping, birds chirp]
She continues, THEY START AS FLOWERS,
AND THEN THEY TURN INTO SMALL
BERRIES THAT GROW AND CHANGE
COLOUR OVER TIME.
Olive says, REALLY? THE WHITE FLOWERS
CHANGE INTO STRAWBERRIES?
Ranger Rabbit says, YEP.
Elinor says, THAT IS SO INTERESTING.
Olive says, RANGER RABBIT, IF THESE

Ranger Rabbit says, GOOD QUESTION,

Elinor says, OOH.

[Olive gasps]

[Rustling]

THE GREEN ONES FEEL VERY HARD.
I CAN'T TELL WHAT IT TASTES LIKE.

[Crunch, rustling]
Olive says, THE WHITE ONES ARE A
LITTLE SOFTER, AND...
[Munch, Olive trumpets with trunk]
Olive says,...BOY, ARE THEY SOUR.
[Munching]
Elinor says, REALLY SOUR.
[Birds chirp, Olive and Elinor laugh]
Elinor says, THE RED ONE IS NICE
AND SOFT.
[Sniffs a berry]
Elinor says, IT REALLY SMELLS LIKE
A STRAWBERRY, AND IT TASTES--MMM.
[Munching]
Olive says, SO YUMMY.
Elinor says, IT'S NOT JUST THE SIZE
AND COLOUR THAT CHANGES WHEN
STRAWBERRIES GROW.
THE TASTE CHANGES, TOO.
Ranger Rabbit says, NICE OBSERVATION.
STRAWBERRIES TURN RED AND JUICY
AND SWEET AS THEY GROW.

WE SAY THAT THEY ARE RIPE.
MOST FRUITS ARE NOT READY TO

Elinor says, "RIPE" MEANS IT'S READY

Elinor eats a strawberry.
[Munching]

Olive and Elinor pick red strawberries.

Back at the campsite, Ranger Rabbit dumps a basket of strawberries into a pan of water. She takes them out of the water and places them into a bowl.
[Splashing]
Ranger Rabbit says, OKAY.
FIRST STEP IS TO SQUISH THE
STRAWBERRIES. SQUISH
AWAY, GIRLS.
[Humming, munching]
Elinor says, HMM.
THESE SQUISHED STRAWBERRIES ARE
YUMMY, BUT THEY DON'T TASTE
LIKE JAM YET.
Olive tries the squished strawberries.
[Munching]
Olive says, THE JAM FROM THE
JAR IS JAMMIER.
Ranger Rabbit says, THAT'S BECAUSE
WE'RE NOT DONE YET.
TO MAKE OUR JAM THICKER AND
SWEETER, WE HAVE TO ADD SOME
SUGAR AND THEN COOK IT ON
THE STOVE.
Elinor says, OOH.
Olive says, WOW.

Elinor holds a jar. Olive fills it with strawberry jam. They spread jam on toast.
[Clinking, upbeat music plays, scraping]
Mr. Rabbit naps in a hammock.
[Snoring]
Elinor shouts, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DADDY.
Olive shouts, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. RABBIT.
Mr. Rabbit startles and the hammock spins. He falls on the grass.
[Boing]
Mr. Rabbit says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
[Elinor, Olive and Ranger Rabbit giggle]
Elinor says, LOOK.
Olive says, WE MADE YOU SOME JAM.
[Mr. Rabbit gasps]
Mr. Rabbit says, WHAT?
YOU MADE THIS?
Elinor says, YEP.
OLIVE AND I FOUND STRAWBERRIES
IN A STRAWBERRY PATCH.
Olive says, AND THEN WE SQUISHED
UP THE RED BERRIES, AND COOKED
THEM INTO JAM.
Mr. Rabbit says, THANK YOU.
[Crunch, munching]
Elinor asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Mr. Rabbit enthusiastically says, MMM.
THIS IS DELICIOUS!
Elinor says, THANKS, DAD.
Mr. Rabbit says, I THINK THIS IS
THE "BERRY" BEST BIRTHDAY I'VE
EVER HAD.
GET IT? "BERRY" BEST?
[Everyone laughs]
