Transcript: To Bee or Not to Bee / Turtle Crossing
Elinor, a white rabbit with long straight dark brown hair, wears a red and purple dress. She runs on a dirt path and stops to look at a monarch butterfly perched on a grey rock.
[Happy music plays]
Elinor sings, WHEREVER I GO
I SEE THINGS THAT I WANT
TO KNOW,
WHEREVER I AM I FIND THINGS
I WANT TO UNDERSTAND.
GO AND EXPLORE, LISTEN AND SEE
JUST FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.
Elinor smiles as she sings on a swing on a swing set. Olive Elephant swings on a swing beside her. Olive wears a blue bow on her head, with a blue shirt, skirts and leggings. Ari Bat hands upside down from the bar on the top of the swing set.
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, WHY DO BIRDS SING?
AND HOW DO THEY FLY?
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor watches ants through a magnifying glass.
Elinor sings WHY DO ANTS MARCH?
AND WHERE DO THEY HIDE?
THERE'S SO MUCH TO LEARN
WHEREVER YOU TURN
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
AND FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.
[Chiming]
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME.
Text above Elinor reads, “Elinor Wonders Why.” A magnifying glass with pink bunny ears replaces the letter ‘O’ in Elinor’s name.
Blue text reads, “To Bee or Not to Bee.”
Elinor reads, TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE.
Elinor carries a picnic basket. She walks past red flowers and flat grey rocks. Ari, Koa and Olive follow behind her. Koa, a brown koala, wears a yellow t-shirt and light brown shorts.
[Upbeat music plays, buzzing]
Elinor asks, HMM...
HOW ABOUT HERE?
Olive says, MM... IT'S A LITTLE ROCKY.
NOT BAD, BUT WE CAN FIND A
BETTER PLACE.
Elinor says, OKAY.
Koa says, WHOA. YOU GUYS SURE
ARE PICKY ABOUT PICNICS.
Ari says, WELL, IT'S YOUR FIRST
PICNICWITH US, KOA. WE WANT
EVERYTHING TO BE JUST RIGHT.
Elinor says, YEAH, WE WANT TO
FIND THE PERFECT PICNIC SPOT
FOR YOU.
[Gasp]
Later, they carefully step on rocks to cross a stream. Olive sits down on a rock.
[Flowing water]
Olive says, HOW ABOUT...
MM, NO, TOO WET.
[Splash]
Koa asks, HOW ABOUT THAT SPOT?
Koa points to a field with patches of red flowers.
[Cheerful music plays]
Ari says, OOH.
Olive says, LOOK AT ALL THE NICE
FLOWERS! WOW. THAT'S A PERFECT
SPOT FOR A PICNIC.
Ari says, ALRIGHT. I'M HUNGRY.
LET'S GET THIS PICNIC STARTED!
Ari puts down a blue picnic blanket.
[Rustling]
Elinor asks, SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK
OF THE PICNIC, KOA?
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Elinor says HUH?
Ari translates, HE SAID HE LOVES IT.
WHAT? I SPEAK CHEWING.
Olive and Elinor blink.
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Ari says, AND HE ALSO LOVES HIS
SANDWICH, BECAUSE IT TASTES...
[Koa gulps]
Koa finishes, DELICIOUS.
[Everyone laughs]
Elinor says, THAT'S GREAT, KOA.
[Munching, buzzing]
A bee flies around Koa.
Koa says, WHOA!
Ari says, HUH?
Koa says, WHOA!
Olive says, IT LOOKS LIKE
OUR PICNIC IS A--
Koa runs over to Olive and Elinor, and squeezes between them.
[Grunting]
Olive continues, --SUCCESS?
Koa says, UH, EXCUSE ME.
[Bugs chitter]
Olive asks, ARE YOU OKAY, KOA?
Koa says, YEAH, TOTALLY.
[Chuckles nervously]
Koa says, I'M JUST TRYING TO FIND
A COMFY SPOT ON THE BLANKET.
Elinor says, OKAY, I'LL MOVE OVER.
[Bee buzzes, Koa gasps]
Koa shouts, AH, YIKES!
UH... AH...
Koa runs away from the bee.
[Buzzing]
Koa says, YIKES!
[Buzzing]
Olive asks, UH, KOA, ARE YOU
SURE YOU'RE OKAY?
Koa runs away from a bee.
[Upbeat music plays]
Koa says, OH, YEAH.
YOU KNOW, UH, I'M JUST, UH,
STILL TRYING TO GET COMFY.
[Laughs nervously]
Koa stops running.
[Koa sighs, buzzing]
A bee lands on Koa’s sleeve.
[Boing]
Koa screams, AH!
Elinor says, KOA, IT'S OKAY!
IT'S JUST A--
Koa says, BEE, BEE, BEE, BEE,
BEE, BEE, BEE!
Bees follow Koa.
Ari complains, UGH, NOW, THEY'RE
BUZZING AROUND ME!
Olive says, ME, TOO!
Ari asks, WHY ARE THE BEES
BEING SO BUZZY?
Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW.
LET'S MOVE OUR BLANKET TO
A NEW SPOT.
Koa says, GOOD IDEA!
[Shouting]
Soon, Koa, Ari, Olive and Elinor sit on their picnic blanket beneath a tall tree. A beehive dangles from a branch high above them.
[Birds chirp, upbeat music plays]
Ari says, AH, THIS IS BETTER.
NO BEES HERE.
Koa says, MM-HMM.
Olive says, I WONDER WHY THOSE
BEES STARTED TO BUZZ AROUND
US SO MUCH.
Elinor says, YEAH, BEES DON'T
USUALLY BOTHER US LIKE THAT.
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Ari says, OH. HE SAYS BEES MAKE
HIM NERVOUS.
Elinor says, BUT BEES ARE REALLY
GOOD FOR NATURE. THEY POLLINATE
ALL THESE NICE FLOWERS.
Olive says, AND MAKE YUMMY HONEY.
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Ari says, HE SAID, "BUT THEY ALSO STING."
[Munching, gulp]
Koa says, I DON'T WANT TO GET
STUNG! BEE STINGS... STING!
[Gentle music notes play]
Ari says, OH! THAT'S WHY THEY'RE
CALLED BEE STINGS. THEY STING!
Elinor says, I KNOW MY COUSIN
GETS REALLY SICK IF HE GETS
STUNG BY A BEE. HE HAS TO CARRY
AROUND SPECIAL MEDICINE.
Olive says, HE'S PROBABLY ALLERGIC
TO THEM. ARE YOU ALLERGIC TO
BEES, KOA?
Koa says, UH... NO.
I'M NOT ALLERGIC.
I JUST DON'T LIKE...
[Buzzing]
Koa says, AH, BEES!
[Buzzing]
Bees fly around the children.
Elinor says, WHOA!
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, YIKES! LET'S TAKE
THIS PICNIC TO GO!
Elinor picks up the basket and blanket. The children run.
[Elinor grunts]
[Bees buzz, rustling]
Ari says, BEES GOT ALL BUZZY
ON US AGAIN.
Elinor says, YEAH.
I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED.
Koa says, I SURE HOPE THEY'RE
NOT IN THE MOOD FOR STINGING.
Olive says, THE BEES NEVER BUZZED
LIKE THAT BEFORE.
Elinor says, THAT'S TRUE. THEY USUALLY
DON'T BOTHER US. COME ON. WE NEED
MORE OBSERVATIONS.
Olive, Elinor and Ari peer over the top of a bush.
[Rustling]
Elinor asks, WHERE'S KOA?
Koa waves. He hides behind a small bush behind the other children.
Koa says, I'M GOOD!
I'LL JUST STAY HERE! AH!
[Buzzing, rustling]
Ari asks, WHERE ARE THOSE BEES GOING?
Honey falls on Ari’s face.
[Olive and Elinor gasp]
Ari licks the honey off his face.
[He gasps]
Ari says, MMM!
HONEY FELL OUT OF THE SKY!
IT'S RAINING GOOPY SWEETNESS!
MY DREAM HAS COME TRUE!
[Happy notes play, Elinor giggles]
Elinor says, HONEY FELL, ALRIGHT,
BUT NOT OUT OF THE SKY.
IT FELL OUT OF THAT BEEHIVE.
[Buzzing, gentle notes play]
Olive says, OH! THIS IS WHERE
THE BEES LIVE.
MAYBE THAT'S WHY THEY WERE
BUZZING AROUND US. WE GOT
TOO CLOSE TO THEIR HOME.
Elinor says, HMM...WELL, IT EXPLAINS
WHY THEY WERE BUZZING AROUND
US HERE. BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR
FIRST PICNIC SPOT? IT WAS NEAR
ALL THOSE FLOWERS.
[Buzzing, gentle music plays]
Ari says, OH, YEAH.
BEES LOVE FLOWERS.
THEY LIKE TO DRINK THAT SWEET
NECTAR THAT'S INSIDE THE FLOWERS.
[Ari sucks honey off his finger]
Olive says, YES. THAT'S WHY THE
BEES WERE THERE.
BUT WHY WERE THEY BUZZING
AROUND US SO MUCH TODAY?
WE'RE NOT FLOWERS.
Ari says, MY MOM SAYS I GET A LITTLE
TOO EXCITED IF I DRINK TOO MUCH
JUICE.
SO MAYBE THE BEES DRANK TOO
MUCH NECTAR.
[Ari sucks honey off his finger]
Olive says, OR MAYBE THEY LIKED
THE SMELL OF THE HONEY AND
JAM SANDWICHES.
Elinor says, MAYBE.
LET'S GO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT
THE BEES, ALTHOUGH WE HAVE TO
BE CAREFUL.
KOA, DO YOU WANT TO COME?
[Rustling bush]
Koa shouts, NO! I'M COOL
HERE! THANKS!
[Rustling bush]
Olive whispers, UH-OH.
IF WE DON'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S
GOING ON WITH THESE BEES, KOA
MAY NEVER COME TO A PICNIC
WITH US AGAIN.
[Buzzing]
Elinor says, THEN LET'S GET OBSERVING.
[Bush rustles, bugs chitter]
The bee lands on a flower. Elinor peers at it through a purple magnifying glass.
Elinor whispers, THE BEE SEEMS MUCH
LESS BUZZY NOW.
[Gentle music plays]
Olive says, IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A
NORMAL BEE, DOING... BEE STUFF.
Elinor says, YEAH.
THIS BEE DOESN'T SEEM TO
WANT TO STING US AT ALL.
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
Olive says, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING
ABOUT THIS IN MY NATURE BOOK.
[Pages flip, upbeat music plays]
Olive says, IT SAYS HERE THAT
HONEYBEES USUALLY ONLY STING
WHEN THEY FEEL SCARED.
OH... AND IT SAYS THAT STINGING
ACTUALLY HURTS THE BEES MORE
THAN IT HURTS US.
SO THEY ONLY DO IT WHEN THEY
FEEL THEY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.
Ari asks, SO, WHAT DID YOU FIND?
[Olive and Elinor gasp, Elinor laughs]
Elinor says, ARI, YOU SCARED US.
Olive says, YEAH. FROM DOWN HERE,
YOU ALMOST LOOK LIKE A BIG,
GIANT MONSTER.
Ari says, A GIANT MONSTER? COOL.
Ari says in a deep voice, I AM THE
UNSTOPPABLE ARI! ROAR!
Koa says, HEY, WHAT ARE YOU GUYS D--
AH! BEE!
Koa runs and waves his arms in the air.
Koa says, WHEW!
AH, MORE BEES!
[Gentle notes play]
Elinor says, THAT'S IT!
KOA, WAIT! DON'T WAVE YOUR ARMS
AT THE BEE!
Koa says, BUT IT MIGHT STING ME!
I WANT IT TO GO AWAY!
Elinor says, AND IT WILL, IF YOU
JUST STAY CALM. JUST WATCH.
[Bee buzzes, gentle music plays]
Elinor says, SEE?
EVERYTHING'S FINE!
Olive says, WOW, ELINOR.
HOW DID YOU FIGURE THAT OUT?
A thought bubble shows a flashback of the earlier picnic.
[Popping, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, I JUST TRIED TO THINK
LIKE A BEE.
AT OUR PICNIC, THE BEES WERE
JUST FLYING AROUND LIKE NORMAL
UNTIL KOA STARTED WAVING HIS
ARMS AT THEM. AFTER THAT--
Ari says, THEY STARTED TO BUZZ AT US.
Elinor says, THAT'S RIGHT, AND
THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED JUST NOW.
THAT BEE ON THE FLOWER WAS CALM.
Olive says, UNTIL KOA STARTED
WAVING HIS ARMS AT IT. THEN IT
STARTED BUZZING AT HIM.
Koa says, TOTALLY, BECAUSE BEES
WANT TO STING ME!
Elinor says, YES, BUT ONLY BECAUSE
THEY ARE AFRAID OF YOU.
Koa says, THEY ARE AFRAID OF ME?
WHY? I DON'T STING. THEY STING.
Elinor says, BUT BEES ARE REALLY
TINY, AND TO THEM, YOU'RE LIKE
A SUPER GIANT MONSTER! ARRR!
[Olive giggles, gentle music plays]
Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT, ELINOR.
HONEYBEES ONLY STING ANIMALS
WHEN THEY FEEL SCARED.
Elinor says, AND UNLESS YOU'RE
ALLERGIC, THE STING HURTS THE
BEES MORE THAN IT HURTS US.
Koa says, OH, I DIDN'T KNOW BEES
WERE SCARED OF ME.
I'M SORRY FOR SCARING YOU,
LITTLE BEE BUD. I DIDN'T KNOW
WAVING MY ARM MADE YOU AFRAID.
I TOTALLY GET IT NOW.
A bee lands on Koa’s nose.
[Buzzing]
Koa says, WHOA. I GOT A BEE...
ON MY NOSE.
Elinor says, REMEMBER, BEES DON'T
WANT TO STING YOU UNLESS YOU
SCARE THEM.
Koa says, RIGHT... SO... I'M JUST GOING
TO CHILL, I GUESS.
[Bee buzzes, Koa gasps]
Koa says, PHEW.
Elinor says, KOA, THAT WAS GREAT!
YOU KEPT CALM, AND THE BEE LEFT
YOU ALONE.
Ari says, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT
THING IS, YOU DIDN'T GET SCARED.
Koa says, ACTUALLY, I WAS SUPER SCARED,
BUT I STAYED CHILL, BECAUSE I
DID NOT WANT TO SCARE THE BEE.
Olive says, NOW, THAT'S WHAT I CALL
BEE-ING COOL. GET IT? BEE-ING?
[Everyone laughs]
Ari, Olive, Koa and Elinor dance.
[Upbeat music plays, bees buzz]
Elinor sings, SOMETIMES BEES
CAN GIVE YOU A STING.
OUCH. AND THAT IS NOT
A VERY FUN THING.
NO IT'S NOT. UH-UH.
BUT JUST THINK LIKE A BEE
THEY FEEL TINY
NEXT TO YOU AND ME.
[Koa gasps]
Olive sings, BEES DO LOTS OF GOOD
LIKE POLLINATING FLOWERS.
Ari sings, AND MAKE HONEY
WHICH TAKES HOURS AND HOURS.
[Honey drips]
Elinor says, SOMETIMES BEES
CAN GIVE YOU A STING.
OUCH. AND THAT IS NOT
A VERY FUN THING.
NO IT'S NOT. UH-UH.
BUT JUST THINK LIKE A BEE,
THEY FEEL TINY NEXT TO YOU
AND ME.
Koa, Elinor, Ari and Olive sing, WE CAN ALL LIVE TOGETHER
IF WE REMEMBER JUST ONE THING.
THINK ABOUT HOW OTHERS MUST FEEL
AND YOU MIGHT NOT GET A STING.
Everyone says, OUCH!
[Everyone laughs]
Later, they sit on their picnic blanket under the tree with the beehive.
[Gentle music plays]
Elinor says, NOW, THIS IS WHAT
I CALL A PICNIC.
Ari says, YEAH, FINALLY!
MMM-MMM.
[Munching]
Koa says, YEAH, THANKS, EVERYBODY.
NOT JUST FOR THE TASTY HONEY AND
JAM SANDWICH.
BUT ALSO FOR HELPING ME NOT BE
SCARED OF... BEES.
[Munching]
Ari says, HE SAID, "BEES."
Elinor says, I THINK WE GOT THAT ONE, ARI.
[Everyone laughs, bees buzz]
On another day, Ms. Mole, Elinor, Ari and Olive gather around bush by a school.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ms. Mole says, I'M SO GLAD I PLANTED
THESE FLOWERS HERE. THE BEES JUST
LOVE THEM.
Elinor says, THERE ARE SO MANY BEES!
HEY, THAT BEE LOOKS DIFFERENT
FROM THE OTHERS.
Elinor looks at a smaller bug.
Ms. Mole says, THAT ONE ISN'T A
BEE AT ALL. IT'S PRETENDING TO
BE A BEE!
[Children gasp]
Olive asks, IF IT'S NOT REALLY
A BEE, THEN WHAT IS IT?
Ms. Mole opens a book.
[Rustling]
Ms. Mole says, THAT INSECT YOU
SAW IS ACTUALLY A KIND OF FLY.
IT'S CALLED A FLOWER FLY,
BECAUSE IT HANGS OUT ON FLOWERS.
THIS IS A BEE. AND THIS IS A
FLOWER FLY. AND THEY LOOK
A LOT ALIKE!
THEY BOTH HAVE SEE-THROUGH
WINGS. THEY BOTH HAVE BEAUTIFUL
YELLOW AND BLACK STRIPES.
Arrows point at the wings and stripes.
Ms. Mole says, BUT LOOK CLOSELY.
DO YOU SEE ANY DIFFERENCES?
Ari says, I DO! THE BEE HAS FOUR
WINGS, BUT THE FLY ONLY HAS TWO.
Arrows point at the wings.
Olive says, THE FLY HAS BIG,
BULGING EYES, AND THE BEE HAS
MUCH SMALLER ONES.
Ms. Mole says, EVEN SO, THAT FLY
LOOKS A LOT LIKE A BEE.
Elinor asks, WHY DOES THE FLY
PRETEND TO BE A BEE?
Ms. Moles says, MOST ANIMALS KNOW
NOT TO BOTHER BEES BECAUSE BEES
CAN STING.
IF THE FLY PRETENDS TO BE A BEE,
IT WON'T GET BOTHERED BY ANYONE!
[Squeaking]
Ms. Mole wears a bee costume.
Ms. Mole shouts, LOOK AT ME!
I'M A BEE! BUZZ, BUZZ!
[Ari laughs]
Ari says, WE KNOW IT'S YOU,
MS. MOLE.
[Everyone laughs]
Blue text reads, “Turtle Crossing.”
Ari rides a tricycle on a dirt path. He wears a blue helmet with a yellow lightning bolt on the front.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, VROOM, VROOM, VROOM.
VROOM, VROOM, VROOM, VROOM.
Elinor reads, TURTLE CROSSING.
Ari says, WHOO-HOO!
HERE COME THE ANIMAL TOWN
RACERS, ZOOMING AROUND THE
BRAND-NEW BIKE PATH!
AWESOME ARI IS IN THE LEAD.
Elinor rides her blue scooter past Ari. She wears a blue helmet.
Elinor says, HONK, HONK!
[Ari laughs]
Ari says, BUT HERE COMES ELINOR
THE RACING RABBIT, AND NOW,
THEY'RE NECK AND NECK!
THEY ARE BOTH REALLY WHIPPING
AROUND THE BIG BEND.
BUT WAIT, WHAT'S THIS?
IT'S OLIVE THE INCREDIBLE,
COMING FROM BEHIND AND
TAKING THE LEAD!
Olive rides her pink balance bicycle between Ari and Elinor. She passes them.
[Panting]
Elinor says, WHOA, OLIVE!
YOU'RE REALLY GOOD ON YOUR
NEW BALANCE BIKE.
[Olive pants]
Olive says, THANKS!
Ari says, LOOK AT HER GO!
NOW, THAT'S WHAT I CALL FAST!
Olive says, UH-OH!
[Dirt scuffs]
Ari says, WHOA!
WHAT'S UP, OLIVE?
Elinor asks, WHY DID YOU STOP SO FAST?
Olive says, LOOK!
A tiny turtle walks across the bike path.
Elinor says, A BABY TURTLE!
Ari, Elinor and Olive put down their vehicles and crouch by the turtle.
Ari says, HE'S SO CUTE.
AND HERE'S THE TURTLE, PUTTING
ONE FOOT FORWARD... REALLY SLOWLY.
NOW, IT'S STEPPING WITH ITS
OTHER FOOT!
NOW, IT'S MOVING IT'S WHOLE
BODY! AND NOW, IT'S TAKING
A LITTLE BREAK.
HOLD ON. IT LOOKS LIKE THE
TURTLE IS MOVING ITS OTHER
FOOT! ANOTHER BREAK.
THIS IS GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME.
Elinor says, COME ON, LITTLE TURTLE!
YOU CAN DO IT!
Olive says, HURRY, TURTLE!
YOU HAVE TO GET OFF THE PATH!
WHAT IF OTHER BIKERS COME?
THEY MIGHT HIT YOU!
Ari says, HMM... GOOD POINT, OLIVE.
Elinor says, WE'D BETTER GUARD THIS TURTLE!
Ari, Olive and Elinor hold hands and stand across the path in front of the turtle. Ms. Mole rides around a bend on an adult tricycle. A box rests between the two wheels at the front of the tricycle.
Elinor says, OH, HERE COMES MS. MOLE!
CAREFUL, MS. MOLE! TURTLE CROSSING!
Ms. Mole swerves.
She says, UH-OH. HELLO, KIDS!
[Relieved sighs]
Koa rides a blue skateboard on the path.
Olive says, GO SLOW, PLEASE, KOA!
TURTLE ON THE ROAD!
Koa says, WHOA!
Ari says, AND IT LOOKS LIKE... YES!
THE TURTLE HAS DONE IT!
IT'S CROSSED THE PATH!
Elinor cheers, YAY!
Olive cheers, WHOO-HOO, YEAH!
Ari says, SEE YOU LATER, TURTLE FRIEND!
Ari waves at the tiny turtle.
Olive says, NOW THAT THE TURTLE
IS SAFE, RACE YOU!
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari shouts, YES!
Elinor cheers, WHOO-HOO!
[Elinor laughs, rustling]
Ari says, AND HERE'S ELINOR THE
RACING RABBIT, SCOOTING TOWARDS
THE BIG BEND AGAIN.
WITH AWESOME ARI ON HIS TRIKE
RIGHT BESIDE, BUT--
[Olive trumpets her trunk]
Ari says, --HERE COMES OLIVE
THE INCREDIBLE ONCE AGAIN!
[Olive pants]
Elinor says, OOH.
[Olive giggles]
Olive says, I CAN'T HELP IT.
I JUST LOVE GOING FAST.
[Olive trumpets]
Elinor cheers, GO, OLIVE!
Ari cheers, WHOO-HOO!
[Olive giggles, pants]
Olive says, WHA-OH!
Olive stops suddenly.
[Dirt sprays]
Elinor says, THERE'S THE TURTLE AGAIN.
Olive says, THE TURTLE IS BACK... AGAIN?
Ari asks, HOW CAN THAT BE?
Elinor says, COME ON.
LET'S GUARD IT AGAIN.
WHY DOES THIS TURTLE KEEP
CROSSING THE ROAD?
Olive says, UH, TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE.
[Rim shot plays, Olive and Elinor laugh]
Elinor says, YEAH, BUT WHY?
AND IT'S GOING IN THE SAME
DIRECTION, FROM HERE TO THERE.
Ari says, MAYBE IT FORGOT ITS LUNCH
AT HOME AND HAD TO GO BACK.
I DO THAT ALL THE TIME.
[Laughing, bell rings]
Mary and Lizzie, young goat twins, ride a two person bicycle past the turtle.
Ari says, EXCUSE ME!
TURTLE CROSSING!
[Ari, Olive and Elinor sigh]
Olive says, WE CAN'T GUARD THE
TURTLE ALL DAY.
WHAT IF IT DECIDES TO CROSS WHEN
WE'RE NOT HERE? WE HAVE TO FIGURE
THIS OUT.
[Gentle music plays]
Elinor declares, WE NEED MORE
OBSERVATIONS. FOLLOW THAT TURTLE!
Elinor follows the turtle to the edge of a pond. A second tiny turtle swims in the water.
Elinor says, WAIT A MINUTE.
IT'S NOT JUST ONE TURTLE!
Olive says, IT'S TWO LITTLE TURTLES.
Ari says, AND A BIG TURTLE, TOO. LOOK!
[Water sloshes]
Elinor says, SO IT WASN'T THE
SAME TURTLE CROSSING THE ROAD.
Olive says, IT WAS A DIFFERENT TURTLE
EACH TIME.
Ari says, I GUESS THEY WERE
COMING TO FLOAT IN THE POND.
Olive says, YEAH, BUT WHAT WERE THEY
DOING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE
ROAD IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Elinor says, LET'S GO CHECK IT OUT.
WE NEED EVEN MORE OBSERVATIONS.
The children check both ways and then run across the bike path. They find a small clearing in tall grass and see tiny turtles by broken eggshells.
[Elinor and Olive gasp]
Ari says, WHOA!
Olvie says, MORE LITTLE TURTLES!
Elinor says, AND BROKEN EGGSHELLS!
WHAT ARE THEY DOING HERE?
Ari says, MAYBE THE TURTLES WERE
PLAYING WITH SOME CHICKENS.
Olive says, HMM... BUT I DON'T SEE
ANY CHICKENS, ARI.
Elinor suggests, MAYBE THE LITTLE
TURTLES CAME OUT OF THE EGGS.
Olive says, OH, YEAH.
I READ ABOUT THIS IN MY NATURE
BOOK. TURTLES HATCH FROM EGGS,
JUST LIKE BABY BIRDS.
Ari says, UH-OH, THIS LITTLE ONE
IS ON THE MOVE. GO, TURTLE!
Olive says, IT'S HEADING TOWARDS
THE BIKE PATH.
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WAIT A MINUTE.
THAT'S WHY THE LITTLE TURTLES
WERE CROSSING! THEY HATCHED
ON THIS SIDE OF THE PATH.
Olvie says, BUT NOW, THEY WANT
TO GET TO THE POND ON THE
OTHER SIDE.
Ari says, OH! THAT MAKES SENSE.
AND... THERE IT GOES. IT'S GOING
TO TAKE A WHILE.
Olive says, OKAY. NOW, WE KNOW
THE PROBLEM. LOOK.
Olive holds up her notebook. She shows Ari and Elinor a drawing of the bike path going around the pond. An arrow shows where the tiny turtles cross the path.
Olive says, THE NEW BIKE PATH
GOES RIGHT THROUGH WHERE
THE TURTLES WALK TO GET FROM
THE NEST TO THE POND.
Elinor says, THAT'S NOT FAIR.
Ari and Elinor hold hands as they guard the crossing turtle.
[Footsteps crunch on dirt]
Elinor says, THE TURTLES WERE
HERE FIRST.
Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT, ELINOR.
Ari says, WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING.
Elinor says, YEAH.
Ranger Rabbit arrives.
[Footsteps crunch]
Ranger Rabbit says, WELL, IF IT
ISN'T THE ANIMAL TOWN RACERS.
HOW IS THE NEW BIKE PATH?
Elinor says, NOT GOOD, MOM.
Olive says, WE KEEP GETTING STOPPED.
Ari says, BY TURTLES!
Ranger Rabbit repeats, TURTLES?
Elinor says, YES. SEE?
Elinor takes her mother’s hand and pulls her to the small clearing.
[Rustling]
Ranger Rabbit says, OH, I DO SEE.
A MAMA TURTLE MADE HER
NEST IN THIS DRY, SANDY SPOT.
TURTLES DO THAT.
Olive says, AND THEN SHE LAID EGGS.
Ari says, AND WHEN THE BABIES
CAME OUT OF THE EGGS, THEY
HEADED STRAIGHT FOR THE POND.
Elinor says, RIGHT ACROSS THE NEW
BIKE PATH.
Ranger Rabbit says, OH, DEAR.
Olive holds up her drawing.
Olive says, SEE?
Ranger Rabbit says, THIS IS VERY
HELPFUL, OLIVE.
IT'S MY JOB TO TAKE CARE OF ALL
THE ANIMALS IN THE PARK.
BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE THE BIKE
PATH PUT TURTLES IN DANGER.
HMM... LET'S TRY TO SOLVE THE
PROBLEM TOGETHER.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD DO?
The children say, HMM...
A thought bubble appears over Ari’s head. A turtle falls from the sky and a parachute opens above it. More turtles parachute down.
[Popping, slide whistle, rustling cloth, splashing]
Ari says, I'VE GOT IT! PARACHUTES.
Olive asks, UH, BUT HOW DO WE GET THE
TURTLES UP INTO THE SKY IN THE
FIRST PLACE?
Ari says, UH... A TURTLE LAUNCHER?
In another thought bubble, Ari imagines a turtle standing on one end of a seesaw. A second turtle pushes a rock off a cliff. The rock falls on the other end of the seesaw, launching the first turtle into the air.
[Upbeat music plays, popping, squeaking, boing]
Ranger Rabbit says, I'M NOT SURE
THAT'S SAFER, ARI, EVEN
WITH PARACHUTES.
[Splash]
Ari says, WELL, I GUESS YOU'RE RIGHT.
Olive says, YOU KNOW, THERE'S
REALLY ONLY ONE FAIR THING
TO DO.
Elinor asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Olive says, LIKE YOU SAID, ELINOR,
THE TURTLES WERE HERE FIRST.
Elinor says, RIGHT, AND THE BABIES HAVE
TO MAKE IT TO THE POND SAFELY.
SO... WE NEED TO MOVE THE BIKE PATH.
Olive says, OKAY.
Olive draws an extension on the bike path. It circles around the pond and the site of the eggshells.
[Scribbling]
Olive asks, YOU MEAN LIKE THIS?
Elinor says, YES!
CAN WE DO IT, MOM?
Ranger Rabbit says, I THINK SO.
LET ME TALK WITH MRS. BEAVER.
[Upbeat music plays]
Olive says, AWESOME.
Ari says, YEAH!
Elinor says, THANKS, MOM.
Sometime later, Ranger Rabbit, Elinor, Olive and Ari stand on the bike path with Mrs. Beaver and her crew.
Ranger Rabbit says, WELL, WHAT
DO YOU THINK? CAN WE MOVE
THE PATH?
Mrs. Beaver says, WE HAVE TO
MOVE THE PATH, RANGER RABBIT,
FOR THE TURTLES' SAFETY.
ALRIGHT, CREW!
LET'S GET TO WORK!
Olive, Elinor and Ari dance.
[Upbeat music plays]
They sing, TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE,
WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN NATURE.
[Banging]
They sing, REMEMBER TO SHARE
TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE.
THINK OF THE ANIMALS
ALREADY THERE. TAKE CARE.
Elinor sings, OUT IN THE FOREST
WATCH WHERE YOU GO,
Olive sings, THE BIRDS ARE IN TREES
AND FROGS DOWN BELOW.
Ari sings, THEY ALL NEED THEIR HOMES
TO BE HAPPY AND SAFE.
Elinor sings, IF YOU PAY ATTENTION,
IT'LL WORK OUT GREAT.
They sing, TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE
THINK OF THE ANIMALS
ALREADY THERE.
WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN NATURE
TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE.
REMEMBER TO SHARE,
TAKE CARE.
[Gentle music plays]
Rocks block the old bike path that passed between the turtle hatching grounds and the pond. A new path curves around the area.
Elinor cheers, WE DID IT!
Ranger Rabbit says, NICE JOB, EVERYONE.
NOW, THE TURTLES WILL BE SAFE,
BECAUSE EVERYONE WILL RIDE
AROUND THEM.
Olive waves to the construction crew as they move their equipment along the path.
Olive says, BYE!
Elinor says, THANK YOU!
[Rattling wheels]
Mrs. Beaver says, AND WE COULDN'T
HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU, KIDS.
Elinor says, NO PROBLEM, MRS. BEAVER.
Ari says, WE LOVE TO HELP OUT.
IT'S WHAT WE DO.
Elinor asks, HEY, WHERE'S OLIVE?
Olive says, OVER HERE!
[Crunching footsteps]
Ari and Elinor run to Olive. Olive holds up a round sign with a turtle on it. The sign is affixed to a stick.
Elinor says, WHOA, GREAT TURTLE DRAWING.
Olive explains, IT'S A TURTLE CROSSING
SIGN, SO EVERYONE WILL KNOW THAT
THERE ARE TURTLES AROUND HERE.
Olive pushes the stick into the ground.
Ranger Rabbit says, VERY NICE, OLIVE.
NOW, EVERYONE WILL BE CAREFUL,
EVEN IF THEY'RE NOT ON THE BIKE PATH.
Mrs. Beaver says, AND THE TURTLES
CAN GO AS SLOWLY AS THEY WANT.
[Upbeat music plays]
A tiny turtle steps on to the path.
Olive coos, AW, IT'S SO CUTE.
Elinor says, TAKE AS LONG AS YOU
LIKE, LITTLE ONE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, AND HERE'S THE LITTLE
TURTLE, ON ITS WAY TO THE POND.
IT PUTS OUT ONE FOOT.
THEN MOVES ITS WHOLE BODY.
THEN IS IT GOING TO TAKE
ANOTHER STEP?
UM... NOT SURE.
BUT WE KNOW HOW THIS IS GOING
TO GO, FOLKS.
Ari slowly says, SLOWLY.
Olive says, YEP, THAT TURTLE
SURE DOES GO SLOW.
Elinor says, REALLY SLOW.
Olive asks, ARE YOU THINKING
WHAT I'M THINKING?
Elinor says, MAYBE. WHILE THE
TURTLE GOES SLOW, WE CAN GO... FAST!
[Laughing]
Soon Ari, Elinor and Olive are riding on the bike path.
Ari says, AND HERE ARE THE ANIMAL
TOWN RACERS!
Olive rides her balance bicycle between Elinor and Ari.
Olive cheers, WHOO-HOO!
Ari says, WHOA!
Olive says, YEAH!
Ari says, LOOK AT HER GO!
BLASTING AROUND THEIR NEW
BIKE PATH--
[Laughing]
Ari says,--AWAY FROM THE TURTLES
WHO LIKE TO GO SLOW.
WOO-HOO!
[Elinor laughs]
[Upbeat music plays]

Elinor sings, WHEREVER I GO
I SEE THINGS THAT I WANT
TO KNOW,
WHEREVER I AM I FIND THINGS
I WANT TO UNDERSTAND.
GO AND EXPLORE, LISTEN AND SEE
JUST FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.
Elinor smiles as she sings on a swing on a swing set. Olive Elephant swings on a swing beside her. Olive wears a blue bow on her head, with a blue shirt, skirts and leggings. Ari Bat hands upside down from the bar on the top of the swing set.
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, WHY DO BIRDS SING?
AND HOW DO THEY FLY?
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor watches ants through a magnifying glass.
Elinor sings WHY DO ANTS MARCH?
AND WHERE DO THEY HIDE?
THERE'S SO MUCH TO LEARN
WHEREVER YOU TURN
JUST LISTEN AND SEE
AND FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY.
[Chiming]
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, ASK A QUESTION
WHAT WILL YOU FIND?
Voices sing, ELINOR WONDERS WHY.
Elinor sings, JUST LISTEN AND SEE
COME AND WONDER WITH ME.
Text above Elinor reads, “Elinor Wonders Why.” A magnifying glass with pink bunny ears replaces the letter ‘O’ in Elinor’s name.
Blue text reads, “To Bee or Not to Bee.”
Elinor reads, TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE.
Elinor carries a picnic basket. She walks past red flowers and flat grey rocks. Ari, Koa and Olive follow behind her. Koa, a brown koala, wears a yellow t-shirt and light brown shorts.
[Upbeat music plays, buzzing]
Elinor asks, HMM...
HOW ABOUT HERE?
Olive says, MM... IT'S A LITTLE ROCKY.
NOT BAD, BUT WE CAN FIND A
BETTER PLACE.
Elinor says, OKAY.
Koa says, WHOA. YOU GUYS SURE
ARE PICKY ABOUT PICNICS.
Ari says, WELL, IT'S YOUR FIRST
PICNICWITH US, KOA. WE WANT
EVERYTHING TO BE JUST RIGHT.
Elinor says, YEAH, WE WANT TO
FIND THE PERFECT PICNIC SPOT
FOR YOU.
[Gasp]
Later, they carefully step on rocks to cross a stream. Olive sits down on a rock.
[Flowing water]
Olive says, HOW ABOUT...
MM, NO, TOO WET.
[Splash]
Koa asks, HOW ABOUT THAT SPOT?
Koa points to a field with patches of red flowers.
[Cheerful music plays]
Ari says, OOH.
Olive says, LOOK AT ALL THE NICE
FLOWERS! WOW. THAT'S A PERFECT
SPOT FOR A PICNIC.
Ari says, ALRIGHT. I'M HUNGRY.
LET'S GET THIS PICNIC STARTED!
Ari puts down a blue picnic blanket.
[Rustling]
Elinor asks, SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK
OF THE PICNIC, KOA?
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Elinor says HUH?
Ari translates, HE SAID HE LOVES IT.
WHAT? I SPEAK CHEWING.
Olive and Elinor blink.
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Ari says, AND HE ALSO LOVES HIS
SANDWICH, BECAUSE IT TASTES...
[Koa gulps]
Koa finishes, DELICIOUS.
[Everyone laughs]
Elinor says, THAT'S GREAT, KOA.
[Munching, buzzing]
A bee flies around Koa.
Koa says, WHOA!
Ari says, HUH?
Koa says, WHOA!
Olive says, IT LOOKS LIKE
OUR PICNIC IS A--
Koa runs over to Olive and Elinor, and squeezes between them.
[Grunting]
Olive continues, --SUCCESS?
Koa says, UH, EXCUSE ME.
[Bugs chitter]
Olive asks, ARE YOU OKAY, KOA?
Koa says, YEAH, TOTALLY.
[Chuckles nervously]
Koa says, I'M JUST TRYING TO FIND
A COMFY SPOT ON THE BLANKET.
Elinor says, OKAY, I'LL MOVE OVER.
[Bee buzzes, Koa gasps]
Koa shouts, AH, YIKES!
UH... AH...
Koa runs away from the bee.
[Buzzing]
Koa says, YIKES!
[Buzzing]
Olive asks, UH, KOA, ARE YOU
SURE YOU'RE OKAY?
Koa runs away from a bee.
[Upbeat music plays]
Koa says, OH, YEAH.
YOU KNOW, UH, I'M JUST, UH,
STILL TRYING TO GET COMFY.
[Laughs nervously]
Koa stops running.
[Koa sighs, buzzing]
A bee lands on Koa’s sleeve.
[Boing]
Koa screams, AH!
Elinor says, KOA, IT'S OKAY!
IT'S JUST A--
Koa says, BEE, BEE, BEE, BEE,
BEE, BEE, BEE!
Bees follow Koa.
Ari complains, UGH, NOW, THEY'RE
BUZZING AROUND ME!
Olive says, ME, TOO!
Ari asks, WHY ARE THE BEES
BEING SO BUZZY?
Elinor says, I DON'T KNOW.
LET'S MOVE OUR BLANKET TO
A NEW SPOT.
Koa says, GOOD IDEA!
[Shouting]
Soon, Koa, Ari, Olive and Elinor sit on their picnic blanket beneath a tall tree. A beehive dangles from a branch high above them.
[Birds chirp, upbeat music plays]
Ari says, AH, THIS IS BETTER.
NO BEES HERE.
Koa says, MM-HMM.
Olive says, I WONDER WHY THOSE
BEES STARTED TO BUZZ AROUND
US SO MUCH.
Elinor says, YEAH, BEES DON'T
USUALLY BOTHER US LIKE THAT.
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Ari says, OH. HE SAYS BEES MAKE
HIM NERVOUS.
Elinor says, BUT BEES ARE REALLY
GOOD FOR NATURE. THEY POLLINATE
ALL THESE NICE FLOWERS.
Olive says, AND MAKE YUMMY HONEY.
[Koa speaks with his mouth full]
Ari says, HE SAID, "BUT THEY ALSO STING."
[Munching, gulp]
Koa says, I DON'T WANT TO GET
STUNG! BEE STINGS... STING!
[Gentle music notes play]
Ari says, OH! THAT'S WHY THEY'RE
CALLED BEE STINGS. THEY STING!
Elinor says, I KNOW MY COUSIN
GETS REALLY SICK IF HE GETS
STUNG BY A BEE. HE HAS TO CARRY
AROUND SPECIAL MEDICINE.
Olive says, HE'S PROBABLY ALLERGIC
TO THEM. ARE YOU ALLERGIC TO
BEES, KOA?
Koa says, UH... NO.
I'M NOT ALLERGIC.
I JUST DON'T LIKE...
[Buzzing]
Koa says, AH, BEES!
[Buzzing]
Bees fly around the children.
Elinor says, WHOA!
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, YIKES! LET'S TAKE
THIS PICNIC TO GO!
Elinor picks up the basket and blanket. The children run.
[Elinor grunts]
[Bees buzz, rustling]
Ari says, BEES GOT ALL BUZZY
ON US AGAIN.
Elinor says, YEAH.
I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED.
Koa says, I SURE HOPE THEY'RE
NOT IN THE MOOD FOR STINGING.
Olive says, THE BEES NEVER BUZZED
LIKE THAT BEFORE.
Elinor says, THAT'S TRUE. THEY USUALLY
DON'T BOTHER US. COME ON. WE NEED
MORE OBSERVATIONS.
Olive, Elinor and Ari peer over the top of a bush.
[Rustling]
Elinor asks, WHERE'S KOA?
Koa waves. He hides behind a small bush behind the other children.
Koa says, I'M GOOD!
I'LL JUST STAY HERE! AH!
[Buzzing, rustling]
Ari asks, WHERE ARE THOSE BEES GOING?
Honey falls on Ari’s face.
[Olive and Elinor gasp]
Ari licks the honey off his face.
[He gasps]
Ari says, MMM!
HONEY FELL OUT OF THE SKY!
IT'S RAINING GOOPY SWEETNESS!
MY DREAM HAS COME TRUE!
[Happy notes play, Elinor giggles]
Elinor says, HONEY FELL, ALRIGHT,
BUT NOT OUT OF THE SKY.
IT FELL OUT OF THAT BEEHIVE.
[Buzzing, gentle notes play]
Olive says, OH! THIS IS WHERE
THE BEES LIVE.
MAYBE THAT'S WHY THEY WERE
BUZZING AROUND US. WE GOT
TOO CLOSE TO THEIR HOME.
Elinor says, HMM...WELL, IT EXPLAINS
WHY THEY WERE BUZZING AROUND
US HERE. BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR
FIRST PICNIC SPOT? IT WAS NEAR
ALL THOSE FLOWERS.
[Buzzing, gentle music plays]
Ari says, OH, YEAH.
BEES LOVE FLOWERS.
THEY LIKE TO DRINK THAT SWEET
NECTAR THAT'S INSIDE THE FLOWERS.
[Ari sucks honey off his finger]
Olive says, YES. THAT'S WHY THE
BEES WERE THERE.
BUT WHY WERE THEY BUZZING
AROUND US SO MUCH TODAY?
WE'RE NOT FLOWERS.
Ari says, MY MOM SAYS I GET A LITTLE
TOO EXCITED IF I DRINK TOO MUCH
JUICE.
SO MAYBE THE BEES DRANK TOO
MUCH NECTAR.
[Ari sucks honey off his finger]
Olive says, OR MAYBE THEY LIKED
THE SMELL OF THE HONEY AND
JAM SANDWICHES.
Elinor says, MAYBE.
LET'S GO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT
THE BEES, ALTHOUGH WE HAVE TO
BE CAREFUL.
KOA, DO YOU WANT TO COME?
[Rustling bush]
Koa shouts, NO! I'M COOL
HERE! THANKS!
[Rustling bush]
Olive whispers, UH-OH.
IF WE DON'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S
GOING ON WITH THESE BEES, KOA
MAY NEVER COME TO A PICNIC
WITH US AGAIN.
[Buzzing]
Elinor says, THEN LET'S GET OBSERVING.
[Bush rustles, bugs chitter]
The bee lands on a flower. Elinor peers at it through a purple magnifying glass.
Elinor whispers, THE BEE SEEMS MUCH
LESS BUZZY NOW.
[Gentle music plays]
Olive says, IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A
NORMAL BEE, DOING... BEE STUFF.
Elinor says, YEAH.
THIS BEE DOESN'T SEEM TO
WANT TO STING US AT ALL.
THAT IS SO INTERESTING!
Olive says, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING
ABOUT THIS IN MY NATURE BOOK.
[Pages flip, upbeat music plays]
Olive says, IT SAYS HERE THAT
HONEYBEES USUALLY ONLY STING
WHEN THEY FEEL SCARED.
OH... AND IT SAYS THAT STINGING
ACTUALLY HURTS THE BEES MORE
THAN IT HURTS US.
SO THEY ONLY DO IT WHEN THEY
FEEL THEY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.
Ari asks, SO, WHAT DID YOU FIND?
[Olive and Elinor gasp, Elinor laughs]
Elinor says, ARI, YOU SCARED US.
Olive says, YEAH. FROM DOWN HERE,
YOU ALMOST LOOK LIKE A BIG,
GIANT MONSTER.
Ari says, A GIANT MONSTER? COOL.
Ari says in a deep voice, I AM THE
UNSTOPPABLE ARI! ROAR!
Koa says, HEY, WHAT ARE YOU GUYS D--
AH! BEE!
Koa runs and waves his arms in the air.
Koa says, WHEW!
AH, MORE BEES!
[Gentle notes play]
Elinor says, THAT'S IT!
KOA, WAIT! DON'T WAVE YOUR ARMS
AT THE BEE!
Koa says, BUT IT MIGHT STING ME!
I WANT IT TO GO AWAY!
Elinor says, AND IT WILL, IF YOU
JUST STAY CALM. JUST WATCH.
[Bee buzzes, gentle music plays]
Elinor says, SEE?
EVERYTHING'S FINE!
Olive says, WOW, ELINOR.
HOW DID YOU FIGURE THAT OUT?
A thought bubble shows a flashback of the earlier picnic.
[Popping, upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, I JUST TRIED TO THINK
LIKE A BEE.
AT OUR PICNIC, THE BEES WERE
JUST FLYING AROUND LIKE NORMAL
UNTIL KOA STARTED WAVING HIS
ARMS AT THEM. AFTER THAT--
Ari says, THEY STARTED TO BUZZ AT US.
Elinor says, THAT'S RIGHT, AND
THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED JUST NOW.
THAT BEE ON THE FLOWER WAS CALM.
Olive says, UNTIL KOA STARTED
WAVING HIS ARMS AT IT. THEN IT
STARTED BUZZING AT HIM.
Koa says, TOTALLY, BECAUSE BEES
WANT TO STING ME!
Elinor says, YES, BUT ONLY BECAUSE
THEY ARE AFRAID OF YOU.
Koa says, THEY ARE AFRAID OF ME?
WHY? I DON'T STING. THEY STING.
Elinor says, BUT BEES ARE REALLY
TINY, AND TO THEM, YOU'RE LIKE
A SUPER GIANT MONSTER! ARRR!
[Olive giggles, gentle music plays]
Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT, ELINOR.
HONEYBEES ONLY STING ANIMALS
WHEN THEY FEEL SCARED.
Elinor says, AND UNLESS YOU'RE
ALLERGIC, THE STING HURTS THE
BEES MORE THAN IT HURTS US.
Koa says, OH, I DIDN'T KNOW BEES
WERE SCARED OF ME.
I'M SORRY FOR SCARING YOU,
LITTLE BEE BUD. I DIDN'T KNOW
WAVING MY ARM MADE YOU AFRAID.
I TOTALLY GET IT NOW.
A bee lands on Koa’s nose.
[Buzzing]
Koa says, WHOA. I GOT A BEE...
ON MY NOSE.
Elinor says, REMEMBER, BEES DON'T
WANT TO STING YOU UNLESS YOU
SCARE THEM.
Koa says, RIGHT... SO... I'M JUST GOING
TO CHILL, I GUESS.
[Bee buzzes, Koa gasps]
Koa says, PHEW.
Elinor says, KOA, THAT WAS GREAT!
YOU KEPT CALM, AND THE BEE LEFT
YOU ALONE.
Ari says, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT
THING IS, YOU DIDN'T GET SCARED.
Koa says, ACTUALLY, I WAS SUPER SCARED,
BUT I STAYED CHILL, BECAUSE I
DID NOT WANT TO SCARE THE BEE.
Olive says, NOW, THAT'S WHAT I CALL
BEE-ING COOL. GET IT? BEE-ING?
[Everyone laughs]
Ari, Olive, Koa and Elinor dance.
[Upbeat music plays, bees buzz]
Elinor sings, SOMETIMES BEES
CAN GIVE YOU A STING.
OUCH. AND THAT IS NOT
A VERY FUN THING.
NO IT'S NOT. UH-UH.
BUT JUST THINK LIKE A BEE
THEY FEEL TINY
NEXT TO YOU AND ME.
[Koa gasps]
Olive sings, BEES DO LOTS OF GOOD
LIKE POLLINATING FLOWERS.
Ari sings, AND MAKE HONEY
WHICH TAKES HOURS AND HOURS.
[Honey drips]
Elinor says, SOMETIMES BEES
CAN GIVE YOU A STING.
OUCH. AND THAT IS NOT
A VERY FUN THING.
NO IT'S NOT. UH-UH.
BUT JUST THINK LIKE A BEE,
THEY FEEL TINY NEXT TO YOU
AND ME.
Koa, Elinor, Ari and Olive sing, WE CAN ALL LIVE TOGETHER
IF WE REMEMBER JUST ONE THING.
THINK ABOUT HOW OTHERS MUST FEEL
AND YOU MIGHT NOT GET A STING.
Everyone says, OUCH!
[Everyone laughs]
Later, they sit on their picnic blanket under the tree with the beehive.
[Gentle music plays]
Elinor says, NOW, THIS IS WHAT
I CALL A PICNIC.
Ari says, YEAH, FINALLY!
MMM-MMM.
[Munching]
Koa says, YEAH, THANKS, EVERYBODY.
NOT JUST FOR THE TASTY HONEY AND
JAM SANDWICH.
BUT ALSO FOR HELPING ME NOT BE
SCARED OF... BEES.
[Munching]
Ari says, HE SAID, "BEES."
Elinor says, I THINK WE GOT THAT ONE, ARI.
[Everyone laughs, bees buzz]
On another day, Ms. Mole, Elinor, Ari and Olive gather around bush by a school.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ms. Mole says, I'M SO GLAD I PLANTED
THESE FLOWERS HERE. THE BEES JUST
LOVE THEM.
Elinor says, THERE ARE SO MANY BEES!
HEY, THAT BEE LOOKS DIFFERENT
FROM THE OTHERS.
Elinor looks at a smaller bug.
Ms. Mole says, THAT ONE ISN'T A
BEE AT ALL. IT'S PRETENDING TO
BE A BEE!
[Children gasp]
Olive asks, IF IT'S NOT REALLY
A BEE, THEN WHAT IS IT?
Ms. Mole opens a book.
[Rustling]
Ms. Mole says, THAT INSECT YOU
SAW IS ACTUALLY A KIND OF FLY.
IT'S CALLED A FLOWER FLY,
BECAUSE IT HANGS OUT ON FLOWERS.
THIS IS A BEE. AND THIS IS A
FLOWER FLY. AND THEY LOOK
A LOT ALIKE!
THEY BOTH HAVE SEE-THROUGH
WINGS. THEY BOTH HAVE BEAUTIFUL
YELLOW AND BLACK STRIPES.
Arrows point at the wings and stripes.
Ms. Mole says, BUT LOOK CLOSELY.
DO YOU SEE ANY DIFFERENCES?
Ari says, I DO! THE BEE HAS FOUR
WINGS, BUT THE FLY ONLY HAS TWO.
Arrows point at the wings.
Olive says, THE FLY HAS BIG,
BULGING EYES, AND THE BEE HAS
MUCH SMALLER ONES.
Ms. Mole says, EVEN SO, THAT FLY
LOOKS A LOT LIKE A BEE.
Elinor asks, WHY DOES THE FLY
PRETEND TO BE A BEE?
Ms. Moles says, MOST ANIMALS KNOW
NOT TO BOTHER BEES BECAUSE BEES
CAN STING.
IF THE FLY PRETENDS TO BE A BEE,
IT WON'T GET BOTHERED BY ANYONE!
[Squeaking]
Ms. Mole wears a bee costume.
Ms. Mole shouts, LOOK AT ME!
I'M A BEE! BUZZ, BUZZ!
[Ari laughs]
Ari says, WE KNOW IT'S YOU,
MS. MOLE.
[Everyone laughs]
Blue text reads, “Turtle Crossing.”
Ari rides a tricycle on a dirt path. He wears a blue helmet with a yellow lightning bolt on the front.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, VROOM, VROOM, VROOM.
VROOM, VROOM, VROOM, VROOM.
Elinor reads, TURTLE CROSSING.
Ari says, WHOO-HOO!
HERE COME THE ANIMAL TOWN
RACERS, ZOOMING AROUND THE
BRAND-NEW BIKE PATH!
AWESOME ARI IS IN THE LEAD.
Elinor rides her blue scooter past Ari. She wears a blue helmet.
Elinor says, HONK, HONK!
[Ari laughs]
Ari says, BUT HERE COMES ELINOR
THE RACING RABBIT, AND NOW,
THEY'RE NECK AND NECK!
THEY ARE BOTH REALLY WHIPPING
AROUND THE BIG BEND.
BUT WAIT, WHAT'S THIS?
IT'S OLIVE THE INCREDIBLE,
COMING FROM BEHIND AND
TAKING THE LEAD!
Olive rides her pink balance bicycle between Ari and Elinor. She passes them.
[Panting]
Elinor says, WHOA, OLIVE!
YOU'RE REALLY GOOD ON YOUR
NEW BALANCE BIKE.
[Olive pants]
Olive says, THANKS!
Ari says, LOOK AT HER GO!
NOW, THAT'S WHAT I CALL FAST!
Olive says, UH-OH!
[Dirt scuffs]
Ari says, WHOA!
WHAT'S UP, OLIVE?
Elinor asks, WHY DID YOU STOP SO FAST?
Olive says, LOOK!
A tiny turtle walks across the bike path.
Elinor says, A BABY TURTLE!
Ari, Elinor and Olive put down their vehicles and crouch by the turtle.
Ari says, HE'S SO CUTE.
AND HERE'S THE TURTLE, PUTTING
ONE FOOT FORWARD... REALLY SLOWLY.
NOW, IT'S STEPPING WITH ITS
OTHER FOOT!
NOW, IT'S MOVING IT'S WHOLE
BODY! AND NOW, IT'S TAKING
A LITTLE BREAK.
HOLD ON. IT LOOKS LIKE THE
TURTLE IS MOVING ITS OTHER
FOOT! ANOTHER BREAK.
THIS IS GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME.
Elinor says, COME ON, LITTLE TURTLE!
YOU CAN DO IT!
Olive says, HURRY, TURTLE!
YOU HAVE TO GET OFF THE PATH!
WHAT IF OTHER BIKERS COME?
THEY MIGHT HIT YOU!
Ari says, HMM... GOOD POINT, OLIVE.
Elinor says, WE'D BETTER GUARD THIS TURTLE!
Ari, Olive and Elinor hold hands and stand across the path in front of the turtle. Ms. Mole rides around a bend on an adult tricycle. A box rests between the two wheels at the front of the tricycle.
Elinor says, OH, HERE COMES MS. MOLE!
CAREFUL, MS. MOLE! TURTLE CROSSING!
Ms. Mole swerves.
She says, UH-OH. HELLO, KIDS!
[Relieved sighs]
Koa rides a blue skateboard on the path.
Olive says, GO SLOW, PLEASE, KOA!
TURTLE ON THE ROAD!
Koa says, WHOA!
Ari says, AND IT LOOKS LIKE... YES!
THE TURTLE HAS DONE IT!
IT'S CROSSED THE PATH!
Elinor cheers, YAY!
Olive cheers, WHOO-HOO, YEAH!
Ari says, SEE YOU LATER, TURTLE FRIEND!
Ari waves at the tiny turtle.
Olive says, NOW THAT THE TURTLE
IS SAFE, RACE YOU!
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari shouts, YES!
Elinor cheers, WHOO-HOO!
[Elinor laughs, rustling]
Ari says, AND HERE'S ELINOR THE
RACING RABBIT, SCOOTING TOWARDS
THE BIG BEND AGAIN.
WITH AWESOME ARI ON HIS TRIKE
RIGHT BESIDE, BUT--
[Olive trumpets her trunk]
Ari says, --HERE COMES OLIVE
THE INCREDIBLE ONCE AGAIN!
[Olive pants]
Elinor says, OOH.
[Olive giggles]
Olive says, I CAN'T HELP IT.
I JUST LOVE GOING FAST.
[Olive trumpets]
Elinor cheers, GO, OLIVE!
Ari cheers, WHOO-HOO!
[Olive giggles, pants]
Olive says, WHA-OH!
Olive stops suddenly.
[Dirt sprays]
Elinor says, THERE'S THE TURTLE AGAIN.
Olive says, THE TURTLE IS BACK... AGAIN?
Ari asks, HOW CAN THAT BE?
Elinor says, COME ON.
LET'S GUARD IT AGAIN.
WHY DOES THIS TURTLE KEEP
CROSSING THE ROAD?
Olive says, UH, TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE.
[Rim shot plays, Olive and Elinor laugh]
Elinor says, YEAH, BUT WHY?
AND IT'S GOING IN THE SAME
DIRECTION, FROM HERE TO THERE.
Ari says, MAYBE IT FORGOT ITS LUNCH
AT HOME AND HAD TO GO BACK.
I DO THAT ALL THE TIME.
[Laughing, bell rings]
Mary and Lizzie, young goat twins, ride a two person bicycle past the turtle.
Ari says, EXCUSE ME!
TURTLE CROSSING!
[Ari, Olive and Elinor sigh]
Olive says, WE CAN'T GUARD THE
TURTLE ALL DAY.
WHAT IF IT DECIDES TO CROSS WHEN
WE'RE NOT HERE? WE HAVE TO FIGURE
THIS OUT.
[Gentle music plays]
Elinor declares, WE NEED MORE
OBSERVATIONS. FOLLOW THAT TURTLE!
Elinor follows the turtle to the edge of a pond. A second tiny turtle swims in the water.
Elinor says, WAIT A MINUTE.
IT'S NOT JUST ONE TURTLE!
Olive says, IT'S TWO LITTLE TURTLES.
Ari says, AND A BIG TURTLE, TOO. LOOK!
[Water sloshes]
Elinor says, SO IT WASN'T THE
SAME TURTLE CROSSING THE ROAD.
Olive says, IT WAS A DIFFERENT TURTLE
EACH TIME.
Ari says, I GUESS THEY WERE
COMING TO FLOAT IN THE POND.
Olive says, YEAH, BUT WHAT WERE THEY
DOING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE
ROAD IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Elinor says, LET'S GO CHECK IT OUT.
WE NEED EVEN MORE OBSERVATIONS.
The children check both ways and then run across the bike path. They find a small clearing in tall grass and see tiny turtles by broken eggshells.
[Elinor and Olive gasp]
Ari says, WHOA!
Olvie says, MORE LITTLE TURTLES!
Elinor says, AND BROKEN EGGSHELLS!
WHAT ARE THEY DOING HERE?
Ari says, MAYBE THE TURTLES WERE
PLAYING WITH SOME CHICKENS.
Olive says, HMM... BUT I DON'T SEE
ANY CHICKENS, ARI.
Elinor suggests, MAYBE THE LITTLE
TURTLES CAME OUT OF THE EGGS.
Olive says, OH, YEAH.
I READ ABOUT THIS IN MY NATURE
BOOK. TURTLES HATCH FROM EGGS,
JUST LIKE BABY BIRDS.
Ari says, UH-OH, THIS LITTLE ONE
IS ON THE MOVE. GO, TURTLE!
Olive says, IT'S HEADING TOWARDS
THE BIKE PATH.
[Upbeat music plays]
Elinor says, WAIT A MINUTE.
THAT'S WHY THE LITTLE TURTLES
WERE CROSSING! THEY HATCHED
ON THIS SIDE OF THE PATH.
Olvie says, BUT NOW, THEY WANT
TO GET TO THE POND ON THE
OTHER SIDE.
Ari says, OH! THAT MAKES SENSE.
AND... THERE IT GOES. IT'S GOING
TO TAKE A WHILE.
Olive says, OKAY. NOW, WE KNOW
THE PROBLEM. LOOK.
Olive holds up her notebook. She shows Ari and Elinor a drawing of the bike path going around the pond. An arrow shows where the tiny turtles cross the path.
Olive says, THE NEW BIKE PATH
GOES RIGHT THROUGH WHERE
THE TURTLES WALK TO GET FROM
THE NEST TO THE POND.
Elinor says, THAT'S NOT FAIR.
Ari and Elinor hold hands as they guard the crossing turtle.
[Footsteps crunch on dirt]
Elinor says, THE TURTLES WERE
HERE FIRST.
Olive says, YOU'RE RIGHT, ELINOR.
Ari says, WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING.
Elinor says, YEAH.
Ranger Rabbit arrives.
[Footsteps crunch]
Ranger Rabbit says, WELL, IF IT
ISN'T THE ANIMAL TOWN RACERS.
HOW IS THE NEW BIKE PATH?
Elinor says, NOT GOOD, MOM.
Olive says, WE KEEP GETTING STOPPED.
Ari says, BY TURTLES!
Ranger Rabbit repeats, TURTLES?
Elinor says, YES. SEE?
Elinor takes her mother’s hand and pulls her to the small clearing.
[Rustling]
Ranger Rabbit says, OH, I DO SEE.
A MAMA TURTLE MADE HER
NEST IN THIS DRY, SANDY SPOT.
TURTLES DO THAT.
Olive says, AND THEN SHE LAID EGGS.
Ari says, AND WHEN THE BABIES
CAME OUT OF THE EGGS, THEY
HEADED STRAIGHT FOR THE POND.
Elinor says, RIGHT ACROSS THE NEW
BIKE PATH.
Ranger Rabbit says, OH, DEAR.
Olive holds up her drawing.
Olive says, SEE?
Ranger Rabbit says, THIS IS VERY
HELPFUL, OLIVE.
IT'S MY JOB TO TAKE CARE OF ALL
THE ANIMALS IN THE PARK.
BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE THE BIKE
PATH PUT TURTLES IN DANGER.
HMM... LET'S TRY TO SOLVE THE
PROBLEM TOGETHER.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD DO?
The children say, HMM...
A thought bubble appears over Ari’s head. A turtle falls from the sky and a parachute opens above it. More turtles parachute down.
[Popping, slide whistle, rustling cloth, splashing]
Ari says, I'VE GOT IT! PARACHUTES.
Olive asks, UH, BUT HOW DO WE GET THE
TURTLES UP INTO THE SKY IN THE
FIRST PLACE?
Ari says, UH... A TURTLE LAUNCHER?
In another thought bubble, Ari imagines a turtle standing on one end of a seesaw. A second turtle pushes a rock off a cliff. The rock falls on the other end of the seesaw, launching the first turtle into the air.
[Upbeat music plays, popping, squeaking, boing]
Ranger Rabbit says, I'M NOT SURE
THAT'S SAFER, ARI, EVEN
WITH PARACHUTES.
[Splash]
Ari says, WELL, I GUESS YOU'RE RIGHT.
Olive says, YOU KNOW, THERE'S
REALLY ONLY ONE FAIR THING
TO DO.
Elinor asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Olive says, LIKE YOU SAID, ELINOR,
THE TURTLES WERE HERE FIRST.
Elinor says, RIGHT, AND THE BABIES HAVE
TO MAKE IT TO THE POND SAFELY.
SO... WE NEED TO MOVE THE BIKE PATH.
Olive says, OKAY.
Olive draws an extension on the bike path. It circles around the pond and the site of the eggshells.
[Scribbling]
Olive asks, YOU MEAN LIKE THIS?
Elinor says, YES!
CAN WE DO IT, MOM?
Ranger Rabbit says, I THINK SO.
LET ME TALK WITH MRS. BEAVER.
[Upbeat music plays]
Olive says, AWESOME.
Ari says, YEAH!
Elinor says, THANKS, MOM.
Sometime later, Ranger Rabbit, Elinor, Olive and Ari stand on the bike path with Mrs. Beaver and her crew.
Ranger Rabbit says, WELL, WHAT
DO YOU THINK? CAN WE MOVE
THE PATH?
Mrs. Beaver says, WE HAVE TO
MOVE THE PATH, RANGER RABBIT,
FOR THE TURTLES' SAFETY.
ALRIGHT, CREW!
LET'S GET TO WORK!
Olive, Elinor and Ari dance.
[Upbeat music plays]
They sing, TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE,
WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN NATURE.
[Banging]
They sing, REMEMBER TO SHARE
TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE.
THINK OF THE ANIMALS
ALREADY THERE. TAKE CARE.
Elinor sings, OUT IN THE FOREST
WATCH WHERE YOU GO,
Olive sings, THE BIRDS ARE IN TREES
AND FROGS DOWN BELOW.
Ari sings, THEY ALL NEED THEIR HOMES
TO BE HAPPY AND SAFE.
Elinor sings, IF YOU PAY ATTENTION,
IT'LL WORK OUT GREAT.
They sing, TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE
THINK OF THE ANIMALS
ALREADY THERE.
WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN NATURE
TAKE CARE, TAKE CARE.
REMEMBER TO SHARE,
TAKE CARE.
[Gentle music plays]
Rocks block the old bike path that passed between the turtle hatching grounds and the pond. A new path curves around the area.
Elinor cheers, WE DID IT!
Ranger Rabbit says, NICE JOB, EVERYONE.
NOW, THE TURTLES WILL BE SAFE,
BECAUSE EVERYONE WILL RIDE
AROUND THEM.
Olive waves to the construction crew as they move their equipment along the path.
Olive says, BYE!
Elinor says, THANK YOU!
[Rattling wheels]
Mrs. Beaver says, AND WE COULDN'T
HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU, KIDS.
Elinor says, NO PROBLEM, MRS. BEAVER.
Ari says, WE LOVE TO HELP OUT.
IT'S WHAT WE DO.
Elinor asks, HEY, WHERE'S OLIVE?
Olive says, OVER HERE!
[Crunching footsteps]
Ari and Elinor run to Olive. Olive holds up a round sign with a turtle on it. The sign is affixed to a stick.
Elinor says, WHOA, GREAT TURTLE DRAWING.
Olive explains, IT'S A TURTLE CROSSING
SIGN, SO EVERYONE WILL KNOW THAT
THERE ARE TURTLES AROUND HERE.
Olive pushes the stick into the ground.
Ranger Rabbit says, VERY NICE, OLIVE.
NOW, EVERYONE WILL BE CAREFUL,
EVEN IF THEY'RE NOT ON THE BIKE PATH.
Mrs. Beaver says, AND THE TURTLES
CAN GO AS SLOWLY AS THEY WANT.
[Upbeat music plays]
A tiny turtle steps on to the path.
Olive coos, AW, IT'S SO CUTE.
Elinor says, TAKE AS LONG AS YOU
LIKE, LITTLE ONE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Ari says, AND HERE'S THE LITTLE
TURTLE, ON ITS WAY TO THE POND.
IT PUTS OUT ONE FOOT.
THEN MOVES ITS WHOLE BODY.
THEN IS IT GOING TO TAKE
ANOTHER STEP?
UM... NOT SURE.
BUT WE KNOW HOW THIS IS GOING
TO GO, FOLKS.
Ari slowly says, SLOWLY.
Olive says, YEP, THAT TURTLE
SURE DOES GO SLOW.
Elinor says, REALLY SLOW.
Olive asks, ARE YOU THINKING
WHAT I'M THINKING?
Elinor says, MAYBE. WHILE THE
TURTLE GOES SLOW, WE CAN GO... FAST!
[Laughing]
Soon Ari, Elinor and Olive are riding on the bike path.
Ari says, AND HERE ARE THE ANIMAL
TOWN RACERS!
Olive rides her balance bicycle between Elinor and Ari.
Olive cheers, WHOO-HOO!
Ari says, WHOA!
Olive says, YEAH!
Ari says, LOOK AT HER GO!
BLASTING AROUND THEIR NEW
BIKE PATH--
[Laughing]
Ari says,--AWAY FROM THE TURTLES
WHO LIKE TO GO SLOW.
WOO-HOO!
[Elinor laughs]
[Upbeat music plays]
