A child’s voice cries, WHEE!

(Music playing)

An animated sun shines. Mandisa waves from beside a tree. Mandisa has black hair held back with a headband and wears denim overalls over a peach t-shirt.

An animated bird and ladybug move around Mandisa. Mandisa holds a crafted rabbit and a colourful monster made from a tissue box.

A title reads: Curious Crafting

(Cheerful upbeat music)

Mandisa sits at a low table with two children. She wears a red t-shirt under overalls and holds up a tube with a flat paper circle attached at one end.

Mandisa says, THIS IS SO COOL. YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE IT. YOU WANNA TRY, KHAMARI? LOOK THROUGH THERE.

Mandisa hands the tube to Khamari, a child with wavy black hair and glasses. Khamari looks in the tube.

Khamari says, WHAT? THAT IS COOL.

Colourful gems move inside a kaleidoscope.

Mandisa asks, DO YOU WANNA TRY NOAH?

Noah has short black hair and wears a blue shirt.

Noah says, YEAH.

Noah looks through the tube.

Noah says, WOW!

Mandisa says, WELL, BETTER YET, WHY DON'T I SHOW YOU HOW TO CRAFT YOUR OWN KALEIDOSCOPE SO YOU CAN LOOK THROUGH IT WHENEVER YOU WANT?

The children say, YEAH.

Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S GET WHAT WE NEED.

Noah says, LET'S GO.

Khamari says, YEAH.

(Lighthearted music)

Mandisa and the children get up and hurry into a craft room. They gather supplies. Items appear on the table.

Mandisa narrates, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED CONSTRUCTION PAPER AND GEMSTONES, MIRRORED SHEETS, PAPER STRAWS, WASHI TAPE, MASKING TAPE, CARDBOARD TUBES, AND WHITE CARD STOCK.

(Paintbrush whooshing)

Mandisa and the children sit at the low table with the craft supplies in front of them.

Mandisa says, OKAY, SO THE FIRST STEP THAT WE NEED TO DO IS TO COVER OUR CARDBOARD TUBES WITH SOME CONSTRUCTION PAPER. CAN YOU FOLD YOUR PAPER IN HALF? FOLD IT IN HALF.

Khamari tries to fold a pink piece of paper.

Khamari says, IT'S WAY HARDER TO FOLD CONSTRUCTION PAPER THAN OTHER KIND OF PAPER.

Mandisa says, IS IT? GOOD. AND NOW OPEN IT UP AGAIN. AND YOU'RE GONNA TAKE SCISSORS AND CUT ALONG THAT LINE, THAT FOLDED LINE.

Noah says, I KNEW IT.

The children use safety scissors to cut the papers in half.

(Lighthearted music)

Noah says, I AM DONE.

Mandisa says, GOOD. SO TO ATTACH YOUR CONSTRUCTION PAPER, WE'RE GOING TO USE...

Mandisa holds up a roll of tape.

Noah says, TAPE.

Mandisa says, YEAH, THIS IS DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE. PUT ONE STRIP RIGHT AT THE END HERE.

Mandisa helps Khamari put tape on her paper.

Khamari says, DOUBLE SIDED TAPE IS GOOD TO WORK WITH WHEN YOU'RE DOING CRAFTS. BETTER THAN REGULAR TAPE.

Noah puts tape along the edge of his paper.

Mandisa says, ALL RIGHT, LET ME HELP YOU. LIKE THAT, LENGTHWISE.

Khamari rolls the paper into a tube.

Mandisa says, NEXT, WE'RE GOING TO DECORATE OUR KALEIDOSCOPES WITH SOME WASHI TAPE.

Noah says, THAT'S COOL.

Mandisa says, I HAVE A BIG BOWL OF WASHI TAPE HERE, AND I'M GOING TO DUMP IT ON THE TABLE. OKAY, YOU CAN CHOOSE A FEW DIFFERENT PATTERNS.

The children take rolls of colourfully decorated tape.

Mandisa asks, YOU'RE GONNA DO THE ORANGE? OKAY.

Khamari wraps her tube in orange patterned tape.

Mandisa says, SO THE NEXT STEP IS TO ATTACH A STRAW TO OUR KALEIDOSCOPE. AND I HAVE SOME COLOURFUL MASKING TAPES. MORE TAPE.

Khamari takes a roll of purple tape.

Khamari says, I'M GONNA DO MY MOM'S FAVOURITE COLOUR.

Mandisa says, WE'RE GOING TO BUILD THE PRISM INSIDE. TO DO THAT, I HAVE MIRRORED SHEETS THAT I CUT INTO THIN STRIPS. IF YOU DON'T HAVE MIRRORED SHEETS AT HOME, YOU CAN USE CARDBOARD CUT INTO THIN STRIPS AND COVER IT WITH THE SHINY SIDE OF ALUMINUM FOIL. WE'RE GOING TO TURN THEM OVER FIRST. WE'RE GONNA TAPE THEM TOGETHER WITH SOME CLEAR TAPE. SO MORE TAPE.

The children each tape three strips of mirrored sheets together.

Mandisa says, SO CAREFULLY FLIP IT OVER SO WE CAN SEE THE SHINY MIRRORED SIDE. NOW IT'S TIME TO MAKE THE PRISM. FOLD IT UP. OKAY, NOW YOU PUT THE TAPE JUST ON TOP. GREAT.

The children fold the mirrored strips into a long triangular shape.

Mandisa says, SO THEN YOU'RE GOING TO INSERT YOUR PRISM INTO YOUR CARDBOARD TUBE AND JUST PUSH IT DOWN.

Mandisa helps the children put the prism in the tube.

Mandisa says, SO FINALLY, WE HAVE TO CREATE THE DISK THAT WE CAN USE TO SEE THROUGH OUR KALEIDOSCOPE SO WE CAN SEE DIFFERENT PATTERNS.

Mandisa holds up a circle of paper with colourful gems glued onto one side. She helps Khamari push the straw through a white paper disk.

Mandisa says, GREAT, YOU CAN POKE THAT THROUGH, AND THEN MAKE IT JUST A LITTLE BIT BIGGER. YOU CAN TAKE YOUR GLUE AND GLUE DOWN SOME GEMSTONES.

Khamari says, THE COLOURS WILL BE AROUND.

The children select gemstones.

Noah says, IT'S LIKE IT'S STICKY.

(Lighthearted music)

Mandisa says, OKAY, OUR DISKS ARE FINISHED, AND THEY LOOK AMAZING. LET'S SLIDE THEM ON THE STRAW. GOOD. AND THEN LOOK THROUGH THE OPENING, AND…

The children look into their tubes. They spin the disks, so the gems rotate through the prism.

Khamari cries, THAT'S AMAZING!

Noah says, OH MY. SO COOL.

Khamari says, IT LOOKS LIKE I CAN SPY THE JEWELS FROM UNDER THE TABLE.

The children say, WOW. SO COOL.

Mandisa and the children look in the tubes.

Noah says, AMAZING. IT'S LIKE A LIGHT BULB.

(Cheerful upbeat music)
