[Upbeat music plays]

Text reads, “TVOkids” and “Riverbank Pictures” “Original.”

[Child giggles]

Text reads, “TVO Presents.”

[Happy music plays]

Mandisa wears her long black hair pulled away from her face. She smiles as she holds up a cardboard monster and an upside down drinking cup rabbit. Text above her reads, “Curious Crafting.”

[Boing, upbeat music plays]

Mandisa sits at a white round table. To her right sits a boy with short straight blond hair parted on his left. He wears a brown fleece jacket. To her right sits a girl with straight shoulder-length dark brown hair. The girl wears a long-sleeved lilac blouse and blue and black eyeglasses.

Mandisa says, IT SURE IS WINDY OUT THERE.

[Wind blows]

Mandisa says, IN FACT, THAT GIVES
ME A CRAFTING IDEA
TO MAKE SOMETHING
THAT LOVES THE WIND.

A PINWHEEL!

Mandisa holds up a colourful pinwheel and spins it.

[Slide whistle]

The boy asks, CAN WE MAKE ONE OF THOSE?

The girl holds the pinwheel.

The girl asks, YEAH, CAN WE?

Mandisa says, OF COURSE, BUT FIRST WE
NEED SOME CRAFTING MATERIALS.
LET'S GO GET THEM.

[Thunk, upbeat music plays]

The crafters collect supplies. As Mandisa lists the supplies, they appear on a table.

Mandisa says, WE'RE GOING TO NEED PONY
BEADS AND WATERCOLOR PAINT,
PAINTBRUSHES, MASKING
TAPE, A SINGLE HOLE PUNCH,
A RULER AND BLACK
MARKERS, WATERCOLOR PAPER,
SCREWS AND BOLTS, BAMBOO
SKEWERS, AND CLOTHESPINS.

[Beeping]

Mandisa and the children sit at the white table.

[Upbeat music continues]

Mandisa says, SO THE FIRST STEP
TO MAKE OUR PINWHEEL IS TO MAKE
THE TURNING APPARATUS.

I'M GONNA GIVE YOU
SOME DUCK TAPE,
AND CAN YOU WRAP IT
AROUND THE BOTTOM
OF YOUR CLOTHESPIN?

WE'LL WRAP ANOTHER
PIECE OF DUCK TAPE
AROUND THE BOTTOM PART.

NOW WE'RE GONNA MAKE THE HANDLE.

STICK THE BAMBOO
SKEWER THROUGH THE TAPE
AT THE BOTTOM OF OUR CLOTHESPIN
ALL THE WAY THROUGH
AND ALL THE WAY DOWN
'TIL YOU CAN'T PUSH ANYMORE.

NEXT, WE'RE GONNA ADD
A SCREW AND A BEAD,
AND THIS IS HOW OUR
PINWHEEL WILL TURN.

CAN YOU SLIDE THAT
THROUGH THE LITTLE HOLE
IN THE TOP OF YOUR CLOTHESPIN?

The girl murmurs, UH HMM.

Mandisa asks, DO YOU WANNA CHOOSE A BEAD?

The boy says, YEAH.

Mandisa says, THE NEXT STEP IS
TO MAKE THE BODY OF OUR PINWHEEL.

FOR THAT, WE'RE GONNA
USE THICK WHITE PAPER.

TAKE ONE CORNER AND FOLD IT
ALL THE WAY TO THE
END RIGHT HERE.

[Rustling]

Mandisa asks, AND THEN CAN YOU
CREASE IT RIGHT THERE?

I WANT YOU TO CUT OFF THAT
LEFTOVER RECTANGLE AT THE END.

[Snipping scissors]

Mandisa says, WE'RE GONNA FOLD
THIS WAY STRAIGHT ALL THE
WAY TO THE CORNER.

DO YOU WANNA OPEN IT UP AGAIN?

WE NEED TO MAKE A CUT
ALONG EACH LINE, HALFWAY DOWN.

GOOD, MAYBE WE'LL DO A
LITTLE BIT PAST HALF.

NOW CAN YOU CUT ALONG THE
LINE THAT YOU JUST DREW.

[Upbeat music continues]

Mandisa says, NEXT, I'M GONNA MAKE
A MARK ON EACH RIGHT-SIDE TRIANGLE
WHERE I WANT YOU TO MAKE A HOLE
WITH THE HOLE PUNCH.

I'M GONNA MAKE A HOLE
AT THE VERY CENTER
OF YOUR PINWHEEL
USING MY PENCIL.

SHOULD OUR PINWHEELS
JUST BE WHITE?

Both children say, NO.

The boy says, WE NEED TO COLOR THEM.

Mandisa says, LET'S GO TO THE PAINT
ZONE TO DECORATE THEM!

[Energetic happy music plays]

Mandisa and the crafters walk to a rectangular table. On the table in front of them are paintbrushes, bowls of water, the pinwheel paper and a container with nine divots for different paint colours.

Mandisa says, OKAY, YOU CAN
DRAW ANY DESIGN YOU LIKE,
LIKE CIRCLES OR STARS.

WE'RE GONNA PAINT OUR PINWHEELS
WITH SOME WATERCOLORS.

The children draw and then paint.

[Happy music continues]

Mandisa says, WE'RE GONNA PUT OUR PAPER
ONTO OUR TURNING APPARATUS.

GOOD, SO NOW WE'RE GONNA FIND
THE TRIANGLE WITH THE HOLE
AND GENTLY FOLD IT OVER
AND PLACE IT OVER THE SCREW. TWO.

LET'S ADD ONE MORE BEAD,
WANNA CHOOSE A BEAD?

AND SLIDE THAT DOWN YOUR SCREW.
SCREW DOWN A BOLT 'TIL
IT CAN'T GO ANY FURTHER.

GOOD JOB, OUR
PINWHEELS ARE ALL DONE.

[Children and Mandisa blow]

Mandisa asks, SHOULD WE TAKE
OUR PINWHEELS OUTSIDE
TO BLOW IN THE WIND?

The children shout, YEAH!

Mandisa says, LET'S GO!
