The sun shines brightly over a park as an airplane flies past. Mandisa Watts, a smiling woman with dark hair tied up neatly in a colourful scarf, walks under a tree. She wears denim overalls over her peach-coloured t-shirt.
In the tree, a colourful bird sits on a branch. A ladybug lands on a purple flower. Other animals move through the park.
Mandisa catches a bunny rabbit made out of a cup and a fluffy monster made out of a tissue box.
Colourful letters read, “Curious Crafting”.
Mandisa sits around a table with two kids in a classroom. They look out the cartoon window at the street.
Mandisa asks,
DO YOU SEE ANY SNOW OUT THERE?
A dark-haired girl wearing a pink zip-up sweater over her grey shirt replies, NO.
A dark-haired boy wearing a blue crew-neck sweater adds, NO.
Mandisa asks,
DO YOU LIKE TO PLAY IN THE SNOW?
The kids answer, YEAH!
Mandisa says,
ME TOO. I LOVE THE SNOW.
I LOVE HOW EVERY SNOWFLAKE
IS UNIQUE, JUST LIKE YOU
AND JUST LIKE THIS
PAPER BAG SNOWFLAKE.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO
MAKE A SNOWFLAKE?
Mandisa holds up a large colourful snowflake on a string.
The kids reply, YEAH!
Mandisa says,
OKAY, LET'S GET WHAT WE NEED.
(Bright upbeat music)
Mandisa and the kids get up and hurry to a crafting area. Colourful ribbons, paints, and markers fill the shelves and walls.
Mandisa says,
YOU'RE GOING TO NEED WHITE
PAPER BAGS AND WATERCOLOR PAINT,
PAINTBRUSHES, TWINE
AND EMBROIDERY NEEDLE,
PAPER STRAWS, WOODEN BEADS,
AND A SINGLE HOLE PUNCH.
Mandisa and the kids return to the table. Mandisa holds small paper bags.
She says,
TO MAKE OUR SNOWFLAKES, WE'RE
GONNA USE SOME PAPER BAGS.
WE'RE GONNA MAKE SURE THAT
OUR BAGS ARE ALL LINED UP.
WE HAVE TO GLUE OUR
PAPER BAGS TOGETHER.
SO YOU'RE GONNA PUT GLUE ALONG
THE MIDDLE PART OF YOUR BAG
ALL THE WAY DOWN.
PUT LOTS OF GLUE ON THEM
'CAUSE WE WANNA MAKE SURE
THESE BAGS STAY TOGETHER.
THAT'S GREAT. ALL THE WAY DOWN.
THEN YOU'RE GONNA TAKE
THE NEXT BAG UNDERNEATH
AND LAY THAT ON TOP IN THE
SAME DIRECTION, JUST LIKE THAT.
RIGHT, GONNA PRESS DOWN.
WE'RE GONNA REPEAT THAT STEP
FOR THE OTHER SEVEN BAGS.
WE'RE GONNA DRAW SOME SHAPES,
JUST ONE OR TWO
SHAPES ON EACH SIDE
BUT MAKE SURE THAT THEY
ARE THE SAME SHAPE.
The dark-haired girl begins to draw on her stack of glued bags.
The dark-haired boy asks,
SO TWO SHAPES ON EACH SIDE?
Mandisa answers, THAT'S RIGHT.
(Upbeat music)
The kids finish drawing on their bags.
Mandisa says,
OKAY, I'M GONNA CUT OUT
THE SHAPES THAT YOU DREW.
BECAUSE WE STACKED
TOGETHER SO MANY PAPER BAGS
IT'S GONNA BE VERY
TOUGH TO CUT OUT.
(Upbeat music)
Mandisa cuts out the shapes on the kids’ bags.
She says,
ABBEY, THAT'S YOURS
AND EMERSON, THAT'S YOURS.
LET'S ADD SOME GLUE
IN THE SAME T SHAPE.
Abbey, the dark-haired girl, rubs her glue stick across her bags.
Emerson, the dark-haired boy asks,
HOW AM I GETTING?
Mandisa replies,
YEP. SO ALL THE
WAY DOWN THE MIDDLE.
PUT YOUR HAND CAREFULLY INSIDE
THIS END AND THEN TAKE THAT END
AND THEN TURN YOUR HAND.
YEAH, LIKE THAT. LET'S
SEE IF YOU CAN TRY THAT.
(Upbeat music)
Abbey and Emerson stretch out their paper bag snowflakes. The snowflakes expand to make a large circle. The kids glue both sides together.
Mandisa says,
PRESS IT TOGETHER. OKAY.
Emerson looks at his snowflake.
He says, OH, THAT'S SO-
Mandisa replies,
WOW, IT'S ALMOST AS BIG
AS YOU GUYS ARE.
Abbey says, YEAH!
Mandisa adds,
I KNOW REAL
SNOWFLAKES ARE WHITE
BUT WE'RE GONNA MAKE
OUR SNOWFLAKES COLORFUL.
SO SHOULD WE HEAD OVER
TO THE PAINT ZONE?
Abbey and Emerson shout, YEAH!
Mandisa says, LET'S GO.
(Upbeat music)
Abbey and Emerson carry their snowflakes while they follow Mandisa into the paint dome. The three of them stand around another table.
Mandisa says,
TIME TO PAINT OUR SNOWFLAKES.
I HAVE SOME WATERCOLOR
PAINTS HERE FOR YOU.
OKAY. GET STARTED.
THE COLOR YOU WANT.
(Upbeat music continues)
Abbey dips her paintbrush in purple watercolour paint. Emerson paints part of his snowflake pink.
Mandisa asks,
DO YOU HAVE A PLAN
FOR YOUR SNOWFLAKE?
WHAT COLORS YOU'RE GONNA USE?
Abbey answers,
PURPLE, RED, ORANGE, BLUE.
(Upbeat music)
Abbey and Emerson continue to paint their snowflakes.
Mandisa says,
THESE SNOWFLAKES
ARE LOOKING AMAZING.
I LOVE HOW YOU ADDED THE GRAY
THERE, EMERSON. VERY NICE.
Emerson replies, THANK YOU.
(Upbeat music)
Abbey says, OH, I MADE BROWN.
Mandisa replies, OH, GOOD JOB.
She holds up a beaded string.
Abbey asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Mandisa says,
GREAT QUESTION, ABBEY.
THESE ARE HANDLES
FOR YOUR SNOWFLAKE.
YOU CAN HANG THEM UP
WHEREVER YOU LIKE.
BUT FIRST TAKE THAT HOLE PUNCH
AND RIGHT HERE, MAKE A HOLE.
GOOD JOB.
AND HERE.
GOOD. OKAY. ALL RIGHT.
THERE'S YOURS. CAN YOU LOOP
THAT THROUGH YOUR HOLE?
Abbey replies, YEAH.
Mandisa asks,
CAN YOU LOOP THAT
THROUGH YOUR HOLE, EMERSON?
Emerson answers, YEP.
Abbey and Emerson loop their beaded string through the hole punch holes in their snowflakes.
Mandisa says,
THERE.
NOW LET'S LOOK AT
OUR SNOWFLAKES.
(Upbeat music)
Abbey, Emerson, and Mandisa hold up their snowflakes.
Mandisa says,
WOW. SO BEAUTIFUL.
SHOULD WE GO OUTSIDE
AND MAKE IT SNOW?
Abbey and Emerson shout, YEAH!
Mandisa replies, LET'S GO.
(Bright upbeat music)
