The sun shines brightly over a park as an airplane flies past. Mandisa Watts, a smiling woman with dark hair tied up neatly in a colourful scarf, walks under a tree. She wears denim overalls over her peach-coloured t-shirt.
In the tree, a colourful bird sits on a branch. A ladybug lands on a purple flower. Other animals move through the park.
Mandisa catches a bunny rabbit made out of a cup and a fluffy monster made out of a tissue box.
Colourful letters read, “Curious Crafting”.
Mandisa sits with a young boy and girl at the crafting table.
Mandisa says,
I LOVE DRAWING
AND PAINTING FACES,
BUT THIS MORNING I
THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN
TO CRAFT A FACE THAT POPS OUT
OF THE PAGE, LIKE THIS
ONE I MADE OF MYSELF.
(Bells ringing)
Mandisa shows the kids a 3D drawing of herself. The cartoon Mandisa winks.
Mandisa asks,
DO YOU WANNA CRAFT
YOUR OWN FACE?
The kids reply, YES.
Mandisa says,
GREAT.
LET'S GRAB WHAT WE NEED.
(Light music)
The kids lead Mandisa to the crafting zone.
Mandisa says,
WE'RE GOING TO NEED CONSTRUCTION
PAPER AND OIL PASTELS,
PAINTBRUSHES, WATERCOLOR PAINT,
WHITE CARD STOCK, AND SCISSORS.
FIRST THINGS FIRST IS WE'RE
GONNA DECORATE THE BACKGROUND
FOR A 3D FACE.
TO DECORATE, WE'RE
GONNA USE OIL PASTELS.
DUMP THESE OUT AND YOU GUYS
CAN CHOOSE ANY COLOR YOU LIKE.
WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU
DRAWING NOW, EMMA?
Emma, a brown-haired girl wearing a red long-sleeved shirt, answers,
A TRIANGLE.
Mandisa turns to the dark-haired boy to her left. He wears a black button-down shirt over his grey sweater.
Mandisa says,
NICE.
WOW.
LOOK AT ALL THOSE STARS.
(Light music)
The dark-haired boy continues to draw.
Mandisa says,
NOW WE CAN MOVE ON
TO OUR WATERCOLORS.
GOOD.
GET YOUR BRUSH NICE AND
WET WITH THE PURPLE.
Emma paints with purple while the dark-haired boy uses green.
Later, Emma shows Mandisa her painting.
Emma says, LOOK.
Mandisa replies,
THAT LOOKS GREAT.
(Brush scratching)
NOW WE'RE GONNA MAKE OUR FACES,
SO WE'RE GONNA CHOOSE A
COLOR TO MAKE YOUR FACE.
THERE YOU GO.
CAN YOU FOLD YOUR
PIECE OF PAPER IN HALF?
SO BRING THAT ALL
THE WAY TO THE TOP.
Emma cuts a beige piece of paper in half.
Mandisa says,
GOOD.
AND THEN CAN YOU CUT
ALONG THAT LINE FOR ME?
TAKE ONE SHEET FOR YOURSELF,
AND CAN YOU HAND ONE TO TRAVIS?
Emma gives half of her cut-up paper to Travis, the dark-haired boy.
She says, HERE YOU GO.
Mandisa says,
TO MAKE OUR FACE
POP OUT OF THE PAGE,
FOLD A LITTLE TAB ON
EACH SIDE, LIKE THAT.
I HAVE PIECES OF PAPER
HERE THAT I CUT OUT
THAT YOU CAN USE
TO BUILD YOUR FACE.
I HAVE CIRCLES FOR YOUR EYES.
SO FOR YOUR NOSE, THIS
LITTLE PIECE OF RECTANGLE,
FOLD IT AND PUT SOME
GLUE RIGHT HERE.
Emma and Travis glue shapes onto their pieces of paper and make their cartoon faces.
Mandisa asks,
WHAT ARE YOU ADDING NOW, EMMA?
Emma answers, THE CHEEKS.
Mandisa replies,
NICE.
ARE YOUR FACES ALL DONE?
Emma answers, YES.
Mandisa says,
WE'RE GOING TO GLUE THEM
ONTO OUR BACKGROUND LIKE THIS.
SO WE'RE GONNA PUT SOME
GLUE ON THAT TAB WE FOLDED.
MAKE IT KINDA LIKE A BRIDGE.
THAT'S RIGHT.
Mandisa glues Travis’ cartoon face onto his watercolour painting.
Travis says, IT LOOKS LIKE A BRIDGE.
Mandisa replies,
SO FOR YOUR NECK, I
HAVE A LITTLE SQUARE HERE.
GREAT, AND THEN YOU CAN
GLUE YOUR SHOULDERS ON
RIGHT UNDERNEATH YOUR NECK.
(Light music)
Emma and Travis glue construction paper bodies onto their watercolour paintings.
Mandisa says,
GOOD JOB.
SO MAYBE WE NEED TO
ADD ONE MORE THING
TO THE TOPS OF OUR HEAD.
Emma replies, HAIR.
Mandisa says,
THAT'S RIGHT.
I HAVE TWO BROWN PIECES
OF CONSTRUCTION PAPER.
CAN YOU MAKE A LITTLE TAB?
FOLD A TAB AT THE VERY TOP.
GOOD JOB.
OKAY, YOU'RE GOING
TO CUT YOUR HAIR.
SO JUST CUT SOME STRANDS
OF HAIR ALL ALONG.
SO WE'RE GONNA PUT SOME GLUE
ON THAT LITTLE TAB WE FOLDED
AND THEN GLUE IT ON
THE TOP OF OUR HEAD.
GOOD.
OKAY.
SHOULD WE HOLD THEM UP AND SEE
IF THEY LOOK EXACTLY LIKE US?
The kids reply, YES.
Mandisa, Travis, and Emma hold their 3D pictures over their faces.
Mandisa says, HELLO, TRAVIS.
Emma says, HI, TRAVIS.
Travis answers, HI, EMMA.
Mandisa says,
LET'S GET UP AND JUMP.
(Upbeat music)
