The sun shines brightly over a park as an airplane flies past. Mandisa Watts, a smiling woman with dark hair tied up neatly in a colourful scarf, walks under a tree. She wears denim overalls over her peach-coloured t-shirt.
In the tree, a colourful bird sits on a branch. A ladybug lands on a purple flower. Other animals move through the park.
Mandisa catches a bunny rabbit made out of a cup and a fluffy monster made out of a tissue box.
Colourful letters read, “Curious Crafting”.
Mandisa sits with two kids at the crafting table.
She asks,
WHAT'S ONE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN A HORSE AND A UNICORN?
A dark-haired girl wearing an orange sweater answers,
A UNICORN HAS A HORN.
Mandisa replies,
THAT'S RIGHT!
LIKE THIS ONE.
She pulls out a pink unicorn head on a short stick.
The dark-haired girl says, WOW!
Mandisa adds,
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS CRAFT
IS THAT YOU CAN RIDE IT.
A boy with short dark hair and wearing a light green sweater replies,
COOL.
Mandisa asks,
DO YOU WANNA MAKE
ONE OF YOUR OWN?
The kids shout, YEAH!
Mandisa says,
OKAY, LET'S GET OUR SUPPLIES.
(Upbeat music)
The kids follow Mandisa into the crafting zone. They collect their supplies.
Mandisa says,
WE'RE GOING TO NEED YARN
AND THIN WOODEN DOWELS,
WHITE CARD STOCK, PAINT AND
PAINTBRUSHES, GOLD FOAM SHEETS,
FELT, BLACK MARKERS,
AND A SINGLE HOLE PUNCH,
MASKING TAPE, AND BUBBLE WRAP.
(Brush swooshing)
Later, Mandisa holds up her unicorn while she sits with the kids.
She says,
THE FIRST STEP TO MAKE
OUR UNICORN IS TO TRACE
AND CUT OUT THE HEAD, NECK,
AND EARS FOR BOTH SIDES.
I HAVE A TEMPLATE OF
THE HEAD, NECK, AND EARS
THAT YOU CAN USE TO
TRACE AND CUT OUT.
MAKE SURE YOU TRACE
AND CUT OUT TWO HEADS,
TWO EARS, AND TWO NECKS.
(Upbeat music)
The kids use scissors on their cutouts.
Mandisa asks,
CAN YOU GLUE THE NECK TO
THE FIRST UNICORN'S HEAD?
GOOD. GOOD.
NOW LET'S GLUE ON
OUR UNICORN'S EARS.
GREAT! WE HAVE TWO MIRROR
IMAGES OF OUR UNICORN'S HEAD.
SHOULD WE ADD SOME COLOR?
The kids answer, YEAH!
Mandisa says,
GREAT. LET'S HEAD
TO THE PAINT ZONE.
(Upbeat music continues)
The kids carry their unicorn heads to the paint zone. They sit with Mandisa and begin to paint their unicorns pink.
The dark-haired boy says,
TAP, TAP, TAP, TAP.
I'M ALMOST DONE!
The dark-haired girl replies,
ME TOO.
Mandisa says, GOOD JOB.
(Upbeat music continues)
The kids finish painting both sides of their unicorn cutouts.
Later, Mandisa sits with the kids at the crafting table.
Mandisa says,
‘OUR UNICORNS' HEADS ARE DRY.
LET'S DRAW ON THE...
The kids reply, EYES!
Mandisa says,
THAT'S RIGHT. TWO
EYES, ONE ON EACH SIDE.
(Upbeat music continues)
The kids draw winking eyes onto their painted unicorn cutouts.
Mandisa says,
I HAVE SOME FELT PAPER
CUTOUT FOR YOUR NOSE.
(Child hums)
Mandisa adds, AND-
The kids glue the noses onto their cutouts.
The dark-haired boy says, OOH.
Mandisa says, TWO CHEEKS.
(Upbeat music continues)
The kids glue the cheeks onto their cutouts.
Mandisa says,
OKAY, NOW DO YOUR
OTHER UNICORN HEAD.
The kids draw eyes and glue noses and cheeks onto their second cutout.
The dark-haired boy says, ALL DONE.
Mandisa asks,
OKAY, SO WHAT MAKES
A UNICORN A UNICORN?
The dark-haired girl answers, A HORN.
Mandisa says,
I HAVE TWO SPARKLY HORNS.
WE'RE GONNA GLUE THEM
RIGHT HERE ON THE INSIDE.
The dark-haired boy asks, HERE?
Mandisa answers,
YEAH.
YES.
SO NOW, CAN YOU PLACE YOUR
OTHER UNICORN'S HEAD ON TOP?
The kids glue the unpainted sides of their unicorn cutouts together.
The dark-haired boy says, OH!
Mandisa says,
YEAH, JUST LIKE THAT.
AND WE'RE GONNA
STAPLE THEM TOGETHER.
(Staple clicks)
Mandisa says,
THERE, GOOD.
OKAY, NOW WE'RE
GONNA ADD THE MANE.
TO DO THAT, WE'RE
GONNA PUNCH SOME HOLES
ALONG THE BACK OF
YOUR UNICORN'S HEAD,
AND ADD SOME YARN FOR THE MANE.
(Hole punch clicking)
Mandisa makes holes in the back of the neck of the dark-haired boy’s unicorn.
Mandisa says,
OKAY, LET'S ADD SOME YARN.
SO I CUT OUT SOME
YARN PIECES HERE.
WE'RE GONNA LOOP THEM THROUGH
THE HOLE AND PULL IT THROUGH.
WE'RE GONNA TAKE THE REST OF
THE YARN AND PULL THAT THROUGH.
AND THEN IT WILL STAY
JUST LIKE THAT. COOL.
YEAH. AND THEN PULL.
GOOD! THE LAST THING WE
NEED TO ADD IS THE...
The kids reply, A STICK!
Mandisa says,
THAT'S RIGHT, I HAVE
TWO WOODEN STICKS,
AND I WRAPPED SOME BUBBLE
WRAP AROUND THE TOP,
AND I SECURED IT WITH SOME TAPE.
WE'RE GONNA INSERT THAT INTO
THE BOTTOM OF OUR UNICORN
AND THEN SECURE IT
WITH SOME STAPLES.
THERE, GOOD. OKAY.
AND WE WILL STAPLE THAT SHUT
AND SECURE IT.
(Staple clicks)
The dark-haired girl says,
I'M KIND OF FINISHED.
Mandisa replies,
OUR UNICORNS ARE ALL
DONE! LET'S TAKE A LOOK.
(Child gasps)
Mandisa and the kids hold up their unicorns.
Mandisa asks,
SHOULD WE TAKE THEM
OUT FOR A RIDE?
The dark-haired boy shouts, YEEHAW!
Mandisa replies, LET'S GO.
(Upbeat music)
Mandisa and the kids prance around the crafting table with their unicorns.
