[Upbeat music plays]

Text reads, “TVOkids” and “Riverbank Pictures” “Original.”

[Child giggles, pop]

Text reads, “TVO Presents.”

[Cheerful music plays]

Mandisa wears her long black hair pulled away from her face. She wears light blue denim overalls over a sleeveless peach shirt. She smiles as she holds up a cardboard monster and an upside down drinking cup rabbit. Text above her reads, “Curious Crafting.”

[Boing]

Mandisa sits at a white oval table. To her right sits a boy with short red hair who wears a red long-sleeve shirt. To her left sits a girl wearing a pink long-sleeve shirt. The girl has long black hair in pigtails.

Mandisa asks, DO YOU KNOW
HOW MANY LEGS AN OCTOPUS HAS?

The children say, EIGHT!

Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT, AND
THEY'RE CALLED TENTACLES.

Mandisa holds up a blue and light brown paper plate with a smiling purple octopus. The octopus moves across the plate.

[Water bubbles]

Mandisa says, A GOOD WAY
TO REMEMBER THAT FACT IS
TO MAKE A SWIMMING OCTOPUS
LIKE THIS ONE.

The girl says, WOW.

Mandisa says, OKAY, WHO HAS TWO
HANDS AND WANTS TO CRAFT
AN OCTOPUS?

The boy and girl say, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME.

Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S GET OUR SUPPLIES.

The children gather supplies and place them on a white square table. As Mandisa lists the supplies, they appear on the table.

[Energetic music plays]

Mandisa says, WE'RE GOING TO NEED
PAPER PLATES AND PAINT BRUSHES,
PAINT, CONSTRUCTION PAPER,
MARKERS, POPSICLE STICKS,
GOOGLY EYES, YARN, AND GLITTER.

An animated brush moves up and down. Soon, Mandisa and the children sit at a long rectangular table with their supplies in front of them. Mandisa puts two paper plates with pools of paint on them on the table.

[Scratching]

Mandisa says, SO THE FIRST STEP
IS TO PAINT THE OCEAN.
WHAT COLOR IS THE OCEAN?

Both children say, BLUE.

Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT.
AND WHAT COLOR IS THE
BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN?

The girl says, BROWN.

Mandisa says, SO WE'RE GONNA
PAINT ONE PAPER PLATE BLUE,
AND YOU'RE GONNA PAINT A THIRD
OF A SECOND PAPER PLATE BROWN.

AND PAINT YOUR FIRST PLATE BLUE.

[Cheerful music plays]

Mandisa says, WHOA. GREAT PAINTERS!
YOU'RE ALMOST DONE.

The boy says, I'M DOING DOTS SO I CAN,
LIKE, GET MORE PAINT.

Mandisa says, THE NEXT STEP IS TO PAINT
OUR SECOND PAPER PLATE BROWN.

SO I DREW A LINE HERE, SO WE'RE
GONNA PAINT UP TO THAT LINE.

Animated scissors snip. Soon, Mandisa and the children sit at the oval table with their two painted paper plates in front of them.

[Snipping, cheerful music plays]

Mandisa says, OKAY, OUR OCEANS ARE DRY.

CAN YOU CUT OUT THE SANDY
PART OF YOUR PAPER PLATE?

[Scissors snip]

The boy says, GLUE IT LIKE THIS.

Mandisa says, BUT BEFORE YOU GLUE IT,
I'M GONNA MAKE A SLIT RIGHT HERE
SO THAT YOUR POPSICLES
STICK CAN SLIDE THROUGH IT.

THIS IS A GOOD PART TO GET
AN ADULT TO HELP YOU WITH.

[Cheerful music continues, boy hums softly]

Mandisa says, NOW YOU CAN GLUE YOUR
SAND TO YOUR OCEAN.

SO I CUT OUT SOME UNDER THE
SEA LIFE AND I'M GONNA GIVE
YOU SOME MARKERS FOR YOU
TO DECORATE THEM.

LET'S GLUE THEM ON TO OUR OCEAN.

The boy says, I'M GONNA PLACE IT
RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE.

Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S DO IT.

The children glue their under the sea life to the paper plates.

The boy says, AND OVER HERE.

Mandisa says, SO NOW WE'RE
GOING TO MAKE OUR…

The boy says, OCTOPUS.

Mandisa says, YEAH, OUR SWIMMING OCTOPUS.

SO I HAVE TWO PURPLE CIRCLES
FOR OUR OCTOPUS'S HEAD.

HOW MANY TENTACLES
DOES AN OCTOPUS HAVE?

The girl and boy say, EIGHT.

Mandisa says, OKAY, SO I HAVE
SOME TENTACLES HERE THAT
I CUT FROM YARN AND THEN
I HAVE SOME…

The boy says, GOOGLY EYES.
WE GOT A LOT OF SUPPLIES.

Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT.

NOW YOU CAN GLUE YOUR
TENTACLES TO THE BACK.

The boy says, PUT ONE ON AT A TIME.

Mandisa says, OKAY, NOW WE'RE
GONNA TAPE A POPSICLE STICK
TO THE BACK OF OUR OCTOPUS.

The children glue their popsicle sticks to the back of their octopi.

The boy says, LIKE TA-CHOO.
POPSICLE STICK ACQUIRED.

Mandisa says, THE LAST THING
THAT WE'RE GONNA DO
TO OUR OCEAN IS WE'RE GONNA
MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT SPARKLY
BY ADDING SOME…

The girl says, GLITTER.

Mandisa says, GOLD GLITTER
FOR YOUR SAND AND SOME BLUE
GLITTER FOR YOUR OCEAN.

AND JUST ADD A
LITTLE BIT OF GLUE.

The boy says, FIRST I'LL HAVE TO PUT
SOME GLUE WHERE I WANT IT TO BE.

The children sprinkle glitter on the glue.

The boy comments, FAVORITE ACTIVITY.

Mandisa says, OKAY, IT'S TIME TO PUT
OUR OCTOPUSES INTO OUR OCEAN.

TAKE YOUR CRAFT STICK
AND SLIDE IT INTO
THAT SLIT IN THE BACK.

THAT'S RIGHT.

AND THEN YOU CAN HOLD
ONTO IT FROM THE BACK,
AND THEN MAKE YOUR
OCTOPUS SWIM AROUND.

LET'S ALL SWIM TOGETHER
IN THE OCEAN.

Mandisa and the children hold up their completed crafts. They move the sticks so the octopi move in the ocean.

[The boy imitates birds and woos]

The boy says, HELLO.

Mandisa says, GLOP, GLOP. OH,
IT'S WAVY IN THIS OCEAN!

The boy says, WAVY IN MY OCEAN.
