Text reads, “TVO Presents.”
[Cheerful music plays]
Mandisa wears her long black hair pulled away from her face. She wears light blue denim overalls over a sleeveless peach shirt. She smiles as she holds up a cardboard monster and an upside down drinking cup rabbit. Text above her reads, “Curious Crafting.”
[Boing]
Mandisa sits a white oval table. To her left sits a girl wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with a red heart on it. The girl’s long black hair is pinned away from her face by a headband. To Mandisa’s right sits a boy with short brown hair. He wears a blue short-sleeve shirt.
[Bright cheerful music plays]
Mandisa asks, CAN YOU GUYS THINK
OF A SPECIAL DAY THAT WE SHOW
PEOPLE THAT WE LOVE THEM?
The girl says, EVERY DAY!
The boy says, MOTHER'S DAY.
Mandisa says, AND DID YOU KNOW THAT
WE CAN ALSO MAKE A CRAFT
TO HELP SHOW THAT LOVE,
LIKE A BIG, LOVELY HEART?
Mandisa holds up a large heart. Three animated red hearts float in front of it.
[Crinkling, chiming]
Mandisa asks, DO YOU WANNA MAKE
ONE OF YOUR OWN?
The children say, YEAH!
Mandisa says, LET'S GET OUR STUFF.
[Energetic music plays]
The children gather supplies and place them on a white square table. As Mandisa lists the supplies, they appear on the table.
Mandisa says, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED
TISSUE PAPER AND YARN,
CRAFT PAPER, OIL PASTELS,
WATERCOLOR PAINT,
CARDBOARD TUBES AND PAINT,
A PAINTBRUSH, A GLUE STICK, AND
A SINGLE HOLE PUNCH.
An animated brush moves up and down. Soon, Mandisa and the children sit at a long rectangular table with brown paper hearts in front of them. An artist’s palette of paint lies on the table by each child.
[Scratching, cheerful music plays]
Mandisa says, WELCOME TO THE PAINT ZONE.
I HAVE CUT OUT TWO LARGE
HEARTS OUT OF BROWN PAPER.
WE ARE GOING TO
GLUE THEM TOGETHER
SO THAT WE CAN MAKE
A BIG, PUFFY HEART
BY PUTTING GLUE ALL AROUND
THE EDGE OF THE HEART,
BUT WE'RE GONNA KEEP
ONE SECTION UNGLUED.
GLUE YOUR HEARTS TOGETHER.
[Rustling]
Mandisa says, JUST PRESS IT THERE
TO MAKE SURE IT'S ALL SEALED.
SO NOW WE'RE GONNA
TAKE OUR OIL PASTELS,
AND YOU CAN DRAW SOME OF THE
THINGS THAT YOU REALLY LIKE.
[Clatter]
Mandisa asks, WHAT ARE YOU DRAWING, BEN?
Ben, the boy, says, A TURTLE.
Mandisa asks, SUKRUTI, WHAT ARE YOU DRAWING?
Sukruti, the girl, says, MY DAD.
Mandisa says, OH, THAT'S AMAZING.
Sukruti says, I DREW A HEART ON MY
DAD'S SHIRT AND COLORED IT.
Mandisa says, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU
LOVE SO MANY THINGS.
Sukruti and Ben agree, YEAH.
Mandisa says, OKAY, SO FOR THE
NEXT STEP, I MADE SOME HEART
STAMPS OUT OF A TOILET
PAPER ROLL.
TAKE YOUR HEART STAMP
AND DIP IT INTO THE PAINT
AND THEN STAMP IT ALL
OVER YOUR LARGE HEART.
[Cheerful music continues]
Sukruti says, I WANT PURPLE.
Mandisa says, AND THEN STAMP.
NOW WE'RE GONNA FILL IN OUR
HEARTS WITH SOME WATERCOLORS.
SOME COLORS TO COLOR IN YOUR HEART.
Ben asks, LIKE THIS?
Sukruti says, OH, THE PAINT.
Ben paints and says, WOW! WOW!
Mandisa says, LOOKS LIKE OUR
HEARTS ARE ALL PAINTED.
LET'S MOVE BACK
TO OUR CRAFT ZONE.
Animated scissors snip. Soon, Mandisa, Ben and Sukruti sit at the oval table.
[Snipping, cheerful music plays]
Mandisa says, NOW THAT OUR
HEARTS ARE DECORATED,
WE'RE GOING TO SEW OUR
HEARTS WITH SOME YARN,
BUT FIRST YOU HAVE
TO ADD SOME HOLES.
SO I HAVE TWO HOLE PUNCHES HERE.
Sukruti says, TRY THAT ONE.
Mandisa says, GOOD.
GOOD JOB, YOU GUYS.
OKAY, NOW IT'S TIME
TO ADD THE YARN,
AND I HAVE TWO STRINGS
OF YARN HERE FOR YOU,
AND I HAVE ATTACHED
AN EMBROIDERY NEEDLE
TO HELP YOU SEW
YOUR GIANT HEART.
KEEP THREADING THROUGH THERE.
SO CAN YOU PUT IT THERE?
Sukruti says, WAIT, I DID ONE!
[Rustling]
Mandisa says, TIE A KNOT AT THE END.
Sukruti says, I NEVER DONE IT,
BUT I TRIED AND I'M DOING IT.
Ben and Sukruti sew around the edges of their paper hearts.
[Cheerful music continues]
Mandisa says, WE NEED TO ADD
SOMETHING TO MAKE OUR HEART…
[Rustling]
Sukruti says, SQUISHY.
Mandisa says, TO MAKE IT SOFT
AND SQUISHY WE'RE GONNA STUFF
IT WITH SOME TISSUE PAPER.
GRAB A PIECE AND SCRUNCH IT
UP INTO LIKE A LITTLE BALL,
NOT TOO LITTLE, AND THEN
STUFF IT INTO YOUR HEART. NICE.
[Rustling]
Ben says, GETTING NICE AND PUFFY.
Sukruti says, IT'S GETTING SQUISHY.
I LOVE PINK.
Ben says, I NEED SOME.
Mandisa says, THERE YOU GO.
Sukruti says, THIS IS THE LAST PIECE.
Mandisa says, NOW WE'RE GOING
TO CLOSE IT UP. GOOD JOB.
Ben and Sukruti sew the hearts shut.
Mandisa says, OKAY, NOW I WILL
HELP TIE IT OFF FOR YOU
SO IT DOESN'T COME APART.
A LITTLE BOW ON YOURS, AS WELL.
WE WORKED SO HARD ON
OUR GIANT PAPER HEARTS,
COVERING THEM WITH
THINGS THAT WE LOVE.
SHOULD WE GIVE THEM TO
SOMEONE THAT WE LOVE?
Ben says, MOMMY.
Sukruti says, DADDY.
Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S GO!
[Upbeat music plays]
