[Boing]
Mandisa sits at a white oval table. To her left sits a boy with short black hair. He wears a white long-sleeve shirt with thin black stripes. A girl with long brown hair pulls away from her face sits on Mandisa’s right. The girl wears a grey long-sleeve shirt with pink, red and white flowers and green leaves on it.
[Upbeat music plays]
Mandisa asks, WHO KNOWS WHAT A KOALA IS?
Both children say, ME, ME, ME.
Mandisa asks, AND WHAT DO KOALAS
LIKE TO CLIMB?
The children say, TREES.
Mandisa asks, JUST LIKE MY FRIEND
KOBE THE KOALA HERE.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO CRAFT
YOUR OWN KOALA FRIENDS?
Mandisa holds a paper koala craft. The koala’s googly eyes spin.
[Rumbling]
The children say, YEAH!
Mandisa says, GREAT, LET'S GET WHAT WE NEED.
The children gather supplies and place them on a white square table. As Mandisa lists the supplies, they appear on the table.
[Energetic music plays]
Mandisa says, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED
A PAPER PLATE AND GOOGLY EYES,
GRAY PAINT AND PAINTBRUSHES,
BLACK CONSTRUCTION PAPER,
CARDBOARD AND GREEN
CONSTRUCTION PAPER.
An animated brush moves up and down. Soon, Mandisa and the children sit at a long rectangular table. Each child has two paper plate in front of them on the table.
[Scratching, upbeat music plays]
Mandisa says, TO MAKE THE
BODY OF OUR KOALA, WE NEED
TO PAINT TWO PAPER PLATES.
WHAT COLOR SHOULD IT BE? PINK?
The boy says, KOALAS ARE GRAY.
Mandisa says, I HAVE GRAY PAINT HERE.
The children dip paintbrushes into grey paint and paint their paper plates.
[Upbeat music continues]
The boy says, DONE.
Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S SET
THOSE ASIDE TO DRY.
Animated scissors snip. Soon, Mandisa and the children sit at the oval table.
[Snipping, upbeat music continues]
Mandisa says, LET'S CUT OUT
THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF
OUR KOALA.
ONE PLATE, WE'RE GONNA CUT
IN HALF TO MAKE THE BODY
AND WE'LL USE THE OTHER
HALF TO MAKE THE EARS.
CAN YOU FOLD THAT PLATE
IN HALF FOR ME, KATIE?
AND CUT ALONG THAT LINE.
KATIE, CAN YOU CUT,
MAKE A LINE RIGHT THERE,
THEN YOU'RE GONNA CUT ALL
THE WAY AROUND THAT CIRCLE.
The children each carefully cut a paper plate.
[Upbeat music continues]
Mandisa asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS?
The boy says, FUR.
Katie, the girl, says, FUR.
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT.
WE NEED TO CUT THE FUR
ON THE KOALA'S EARS.
SO YOU'RE JUST GONNA
MAKE LITTLE SLITS HERE.
CUT ALL THE WAY DOWN.
(UPBEAT MUSIC CONTINUES)
LET'S GLUE THOSE EARS TO OUR
KOALA'S HEAD AND WE'LL ADD…
The children say, GOOGLY EYES.
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT AND A BIG…
The children say, NOSE.
Katie carefully spreads glue on one of the koala’s ears.
[Upbeat music continues]
Mandisa says, GOOD.
Both children glue googly eyes on their koalas.
Mandisa says, NOW LET'S GLUE
THE HEAD TO YOUR KOALA'S BODY.
The children glue the head to the body.
Katie asks, WHAT'S NEXT?
Mandisa says, THE TREE THAT
THE KOALA'S CLIMBING ON.
FOR THAT, WE'RE GOING TO
USE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD
AND WE'RE GONNA GLUE
ON SOME GREEN LEAVES.
GLUE YOUR LEAVES ONTO THIS SIDE.
[Upbeat music continues]
Mandisa says, GOOD, OKAY, LET'S
GLUE ON OUR KOALA'S BODY TO
THE TREE.
SO YOU CAN PUT SOME
GLUE RIGHT HERE.
Katie and the boy put the glue on one side of their cardboard tree.
Mandisa asks, HOW DO YOU THINK
YOUR KOALA'S GONNA HOLD ONTO
THE TREE?
The boy says, ARMS.
Katie says, LEGS.
Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S GLUE
THOSE ON.
KATIE, WHAT IS YOUR
KOALA BEAR LIKE TO EAT?
Katie says, LEAVES.
Mandisa says, OKAY, LET'S FLIP
THEM OVER AND PUT ONE ARM
AND ONE LEG ON THE BACK.
Katie says, GLUE'S STICKY.
[Mandisa laughs]
Mandisa says, IT IS STICKY.
SHOULD WE ADD A FEW
MORE LEAVES TO OUR TREE?
Both children say, YEAH.
Mandisa says, OKAY, GO FOR IT.
The children add leaves to their trees.
Katie says, THESE LEAVES WILL
BE A EXTRA SNACK.
Mandisa says, OUR KOALAS ARE ALL
DONE. LET'S SAY HI TO EACH OTHER.
Katie and the boy say, HI.
Mandisa says, HI, GUYS.
She asks, DO WE GO OUTSIDE AND
FIND A TREE TO CLIMB?
The children say, YEAH.
