The metronome breaks.

[Jasmine groaning, scraping, rhythmic whacking]

Jasmine drags her music stand away from the metronome. Nearby, two Lalalas hit a birdie over a net.

Lalalas sing, LA. LA. LA. LA.

[Gentle music plays]

Jasmine says, LALALAS, MY METRONOME'S STOPPED WORKING. HAVE YOU GOT ONE YOU COULD LEND ME?

The Lalalas sing, LALA.

Jasmine says, HMM?

Lalalas sing, LA LA. LA LA.

Jasmine says, HMM!

[Rhythmic whacking, flute music plays]

Jasmine says, HMM.

[Happy music plays, Jasmine grumbling]

Jambo says, HEY, I WANNA PLAY THAT! CAN I PLAY WITH YOU TWO?

Jasmine says, THEY'RE PLAYING RIGHT NOW, JAMBO. WAIT TILL THEY FINISH.

Jambo says, BUT WHY CAN'T I JOIN IN? IF THERE'S ROOM FOR TWO, THERE'S ROOM FOR THREE!

Jasmine says, THEY'RE PLAYING A GAME FOR TWO, JAMBO. YOU KNOW HOW IT IS. THE RULES ARE THE RULES.

[Rhythmic whacking]

Lalalas sing, LA. LA.

Jasmine drags her music stand away from the net.

Doodoowah and Doobeedoo play on a seesaw.

Doobeedoo says, MEOW!

[Squeaking]

Doobeedoo says, MEOW!

Jasmine says, OOH!

[Flute music plays, seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing]

Jasmine plays her flute beside the seesaw.

Jambo says, DOOBEEDOO, DOODOOWAH, CAN I PLAY ON THE SEESAW TOO?

[Jasmine exclaiming]

Jasmine says, NO, JAMBO. YOU CAN'T GET ON THE SEESAW TOO.

[Seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing]

Jambo asks, WHY NOT? CAN'T ALL OF US THREE PLAY TOGETHER? IF THERE'S ROOM FOR TWO, THERE'S ROOM FOR THREE!

Jasmine says, CAN'T YOU SEE THAT THE SEESAW IS ONLY FOR TWO PEOPLE? AND THERE ARE ALREADY TWO OF THEM.

[Seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing]

Jambo says, THAT'S TRUE, BUT LISTEN. MAYBE WE COULD WORK OUT SOME SORT OF WAY TO…

Jasmine says, JAMBO, THE RULES ARE THE RULES. IT'S JUST LIKE THIS SCORE WHICH SAYS YOU HAVE TO PLAY IN TWO-FOUR TIME. IN OTHER WORDS, EVERY MEASURE CAN ONLY HAVE TWO BEATS IN IT. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO.

[Seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing]

Jambo says, YOU KNOW WHAT? THESE RULES OF YOURS ARE SO RIDICULOUS.

[Seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing, flute music plays]

Jambo asks, GUYS, WOULD ONE OF YOU TWO MIND LETTING ME HAVE A GO IN YOUR SPOT SO I CAN HAVE A GO ON THE SEESAW? BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THIS ONE, RULES ARE RULES!

[Doobeedoo meowing]

Doodoowah jumps off the seesaw.

Jambo says, HAHA!

Jambo says, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, FRIENDS! HOOEY!

Jambo sits on the seesaw, and Doobeedoo flies up and lands back on the seat.

[Doobeedoo meowing, grunting]

Jasmine asks, JAMBO, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PRACTISE MY PIECE WITHOUT THE RHYTHM OF THE SEESAW?

[Gentle music plays, Doobeedoo meowing]

Doobeedoo jumps up and down on his seat.

Jambo says, HMM. THE RULES OF THE SEESAW DON'T APPEAR TO ME TO BE WORKING. THERE ARE STILL TWO OF US, AND THE SEESAW ISN'T MOVING AT ALL.

Jasmine says, THAT'S BECAUSE YOU WEIGH MUCH MORE THAN DOOBEEDOO, AND NOW YOU CAN'T PLAY, AND YOU'RE STOPPING THEM! CAN YOU PLEASE LET DOODOOWAH GET BACK ON THE SEESAW?

Jambo says, BUT YOU SEE, I WANNA PLAY ON THE SEESAW TOO.

Jasmine says, AND I WANT TO PRACTISE MY PIECE WITH A METRONOOOOME!

[Doobeedoo yowling]

Jambo says, HMM.

[Fanfare plays]

Ta-da leaps into a puddle.

[Footsteps pattering, seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing, thumping]

Doodoowah walks over Jambo and jumps on Doobeedoo. The seesaw moves.

[Thumping, seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing]

Jambo says, NICE ONE, DOODOOWAH! THE RULES MIGHT BE THE RULES, BUT IT WORKS THIS WAY TOO.

[Gasping]

Jasmine says, IT'S TRUE, BUT THE RHYTHM'S DIFFERENT NOW. LET'S SEE WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE.

[Thumping, seesaw squeaking, Doobeedoo meowing, flute music plays]

Jasmine says, WHAT'S GOING ON? AM I NOT KEEPING TIME?

Jambo slides and rolls on wavy lines.

Jambo skips and rolls over music notes and drawings of his friends.

Doobeedoo sings, MEOW-MEOW, MEOW-MEOW.

[Ticking, gentle music plays]

Jambo says, JASMINE, CAN WE TAKE A BREAK? MY HEAD'S SPINNING!

Jambo says, OH, NO.
