In an animation, fluffy white clouds fill the sky above a town on a green hill.
A narrator says, IN THIS LITTLE TOWN
LIVES A KITTEN NAMED COOKIE,
HIS BIG BROTHER PUDDING, AND
THEIR LITTLE SISTER CANDY.
Cookie, Pudding and Candy are orange kittens with striped tails. Cookie, wearing a sailor hat, rides a boat. Pudding, wearing a stocking cap, is pulled off the ground by a kite. Candy, wearing a red bow, skips rope at the top of a small hill. Her brothers join her on the hill.
The narrator continues, LOTS OF OTHER KITTENS LIVE
HERE, TOO.
Other kittens join the siblings at the bottom of the hill and wave.
The narrator says, COOKIE, CANDY, AND PUDDING.
KID-E-CATS.
The siblings smile.
Cookie and Pudding say, WE'RE CUTE!
Candy says, BUT I'M CUTER.
Together, the siblings say, ME-WOW!
The title reads, Kid-e-Cats.
The narrator reads the episode title.
They say, THE PORTRAIT.
[Gentle music plays]
The narrator says, ONE DAY, RAISIN
CAME OVER TO DRAW A PORTRAIT OF
THE KITTENS.
In the living room, Candy sits between Cookie and Pudding with a toy kitten. Raisin stands behind an easel and canvas with his paint and paint brushes. He puts paint on a palette. Mommy and Daddy stand behind Raisin.
Daddy says, WONDERFUL, RAISIN!
WE'LL HANG IT RIGHT HERE.
He glances at the wall.
Daddy says, IT WILL BE A NICE CHANGE FROM
ALL THESE STILL LIFE PAINTINGS.
Still-life paintings on the wall behind the couch include a green apple, lemons, flowers, and a fish beside a flower vase.
Pudding asks, WHAT EXACTLY IS THE
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PORTRAIT
AND A STILL LIFE?
Mommy says, GREAT QUESTION!
STILL LIFE PAINTINGS SHOW ALL
SORTS OF DIFFERENT OBJECTS, LIKE
FLOWERS, OR FRUIT, LIKE THESE.
She turns toward the paintings on the wall.
Daddy says, AND PORTRAITS ARE PAINTINGS
OF LIVING PEOPLE.
He imagines a portrait of a purple-haired cat.
In reality, Daddy says, PORTRAITS USUALLY HAVE ONLY ONE
SUBJECT.
BUT YOU'RE GOING TO BE IN A
TRIPLE PORTRAIT!
Cookie, Candy, and Pudding say, SO AWESOME!
They jump out of their seats. Cookie and Pudding hold Candy’s paws, and they all wiggle their arms.
They cheer, ME-WOW, ME-WOW,
ME –
Raisin interrupts and says, OH, PLEASE TRY NOT TO MOVE,
ALL RIGHT?
Cookie, Candy, and Pudding say, HUH?
Raisin explains, BECAUSE I'VE ALREADY STARTED TO
PAINT.
Mommy says, WE'LL GET OUT OF YOUR WAY.
JUST SIT QUIETLY, KITTENS.
Cookie, Candy, and Pudding return to their seats. They sit up straight and smile. Mommy and Daddy tiptoe out of the room. Daddy looks back at Cookie, Candy, and Pudding before following Mommy into the kitchen.
[Clock ticking]
Raisin paints an outline of Cookie, Candy, and Pudding.
[Paintbrush strokes scratching]
Raisin dips his paintbrush in brown paint on his palette.
[Paint squelching]
[Clock ticking]
The narrator says, BUT SOON, COOKIE GOT TIRED OF
POSING.
Cookie leans back in his chair and wiggles his feet.
Raisin says, COOKIE, PLEASE REMEMBER TO
SIT VERY STILL.
Cookie sits up straight and smiles.
He asks, AREN'T YOU DONE YET?
Raisin says, NO.
Cookie smiles.
He asks, HOW ABOUT NOW?
Raisin says, NO.
Cookie frowns and leans forward.
[Clock ticking]
The clock strikes 9.
[Cuckoo clock chiming]
Cookie jumps out of his chair and runs behind the easel.
Cookie asks, CAN I SEE IT?
He knocks Raisin aside.
[Raisin grunting]
Cookie frowns at the painting. Cookie and Pudding’s faces and hats are painted.
Cookie says, UH...
IS THAT ALL YOU'VE PAINTED SO
FAR?
Raisin says, WELL, I STILL HAVE AN HOUR OF
PAINTING LEFT.
Cookie says, AN ENTIRE HOUR?!
WE'LL BE A HUNDRED BY THEN!
He imagines sitting with Candy and Pudding for Raisin’s painting. Raisin works on Candy’s portrait.
[Cookie coughing weakly]
Raisin looks past the easel at white-haired Cookie, Candy and Pudding.
Raisin says, OH?
Cookie says, OH, AREN'T YOU DONE YET?
[Cookie coughing]
In reality, Cookie says, JUST DRAW PUDDING AND CANDY
FIRST, AND THEN WHEN YOU'RE
READY TO DRAW ME, YOU GIVE ME A
CALL AND I'LL COME BACK SO WE
CAN FINISH UP.
Cookie walks away. Candy and Pudding look surprised. Raisin taps the easel with his paintbrush.
[Tapping]
Candy and Pudding turn back toward Raisin and smile. Raisin dips his paintbrush in orange paint on his palette.
[Squelching]
[Whirring]
A remote control car zooms around the living room. Candy and Pudding follow the car with their gaze. Cookie runs into the room with the remote.
[Cookie laughing]
Cookie bounces on the couch.
[Cookie grunting]
[Cookie laughing]
Candy and Pudding follow a paper airplane through the room with their gaze. Their smiles fall. Cookie runs after the paper airplane. He picks It up and throws it.
[Cookie sighing]
Cookie follows the paper airplane out of the room and returns with a soccer ball. He bounces the ball behind Raisin.
He says, AND NOW, I'M GONNA SET THE
COOKIE KITTEN RECORD FOR
BOUNCING A BALL!
Cookie bounces the soccer ball between his feet. Candy and Pudding follow the ball with their gaze. Cookie kicks the ball away.
[Crashing]
The soccer ball hits the wall and splatters it with paint.
Raisin says, OH!
His easel is on the floor with his paint, paintbrushes and palette. Paint is splattered across his work on Candy and Pudding’s portraits.
[Candy and Pudding gasping]
Cookie wanders over to Raisin and looks around.
Raisin says, YOU RUINED ALL OF MY HARD WORK.
Cookie says, AND LOOK, THE WALL!
Candy says, OH NO!
She and Pudding run up to the paint-splattered wall. Cookie climbs onto the couch.
Cookie says, IT WILL COME OFF.
He climbs onto the armrest and wipes the paint with a handkerchief. The paint mixes together.
Pudding says, NOW YOU'VE MADE IT WAY WORSE!
[Pudding crying]
Cookie says, WE CAN COVER IT WITH A
PAINTING!
Raisin puts his canvas back on the easel.
He says, BUT THAT PAINTING ALREADY
COVERS A CRACK.
LOOK.
Cookie stands on the back of the couch with the flower vase and fish painting. He looks at cracks around a nail in the wall.
Cookie says, WONDER IF THAT'S WHY ALL
THESE PAINTINGS ARE HERE.
TO COVER UP STAINS AND CRACKS.
He imagines a tomato staining the wall red, a soccer ball hitting the wall, a hammer getting stuck in the wall, and a kettlebell crashing through the wall.
[Crashing]
Paintings appear over the damaged wall. The paintings include flowers and a cat portrait.
In reality, Daddy asks, HOW ARE THINGS GOING,
KITTENS?
He walks into the room with Mommy.
Daddy says, OH, WHAT HAPPENED HERE?
Cookie says, I'M SORRY, MY BALL
ACCIDENTALLY STAINED THE WALL.
CAN WE COVER IT UP WITH A
PAINTING, LIKE YOU COVERED THE
CRACK WITH THIS ONE?
Daddy says, THE CRACK APPEARED WHEN I
HAMMERED A NAIL INTO THE WALL TO
HANG THE PAINTING UP!
He takes the flower vase and fish painting from Cookie and puts it back on the wall.
Mommy says, THERE ARE NO CRACKS OR STAINS
BEHIND ANY OF THE OTHER
PAINTINGS, BUT WE DO HAVE
CLEANING SUPPLIES THAT WILL TAKE
THAT STAIN RIGHT OFF OF THE
WALL.
Daddy smiles. Later in the day, Mommy sprays cleaner onto the paint stain.
[Spraying]
Mommy scrubs the wall with a sponge and cleans away the paint.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding say, WHOA!
[Raisin sighing sadly]
Raisin says, IT'S TOO BAD I CAN'T GET THE
STAINS OFF MY PAINTING.
Mommy says, RAISIN, MAYBE YOU COULD FIND
A WAY TO PAINT OVER THEM.
Raisin says, OVER THEM?
Candy says, I HAVE A REALLY GOOD IDEA!
YOU CAN TURN ALL THESE COLOURFUL
SPOTS INTO FLOWERS AND
BUTTERFLIES!
Raisin says, THAT'S A GREAT IDEA!
[Cheerful music plays]
Raisin paints over a patch of splattered blue paint and turns it into a butterfly. Cookie, Candy and Pudding smile. They watch Raisin paint with Mommy and Daddy. Mommy glances at Daddy. Daddy puts his arm around Mommy. Raisin paints flowers in front of Cookie, Candy and Pudding’s portraits.
Raisin says, I JUST NEED TO FINISH PAINTING
COOKIE.
Cookie says, ALL YOURS!
I'M READY TO STAND STILL.
He jumps into his seat in front of Raisin, sits up straight, and smiles. Raisin starts painting Cookie.
[Clock ticking]
Cookie stays still. The clock strikes 10.
[Cuckoo clock chiming]
Raisin says, IT'S ALL DONE.
He steps back. Cookie leaves his seat. He walks up to the finished portrait with Candy and Pudding. In the portrait, Cookie, Candy and Pudding stand among flowers and butterflies.
Daddy says, WO-WEE, LOOK AT THAT!
WHAT A WONDERFUL PORTRAIT!
Mommy says, WE'LL HANG IT UP WHERE
EVERYBODY CAN SEE IT.
Cookie, Candy, and Pudding say, SO AWESOME!
Cookie and Pudding hold Candy’s paws, and they all wiggle their arms.
They cheer, ME-WOW, ME-WOW,
ME-WOW, ME-WOW!
The narrator says, THAT'S HOW THE KITTENS
LEARNED THAT WHEN LITTLE
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN, SOME CREATIVE
THINKING AND TEAMWORK CAN
REALLY HELP.
Beside the window, Daddy hammers a nail into the wall, and a crack appears. Mommy covers her smile and hangs the portrait. Everyone smiles.
