In an animation, fluffy white clouds fill the sky above a town on a green hill.
A narrator says, IN THIS LITTLE TOWN
LIVES A KITTEN NAMED COOKIE,
HIS BIG BROTHER PUDDING, AND
THEIR LITTLE SISTER CANDY.
Cookie, Pudding and Candy are orange kittens with striped tails. Cookie, wearing a sailor hat, rides a boat. Pudding, wearing a stocking cap, is pulled off the ground by a kite. Candy, wearing a red bow, skips rope at the top of a small hill. Her brothers join her on the hill.
The narrator continues, LOTS OF OTHER KITTENS LIVE
HERE, TOO.
Other kittens join the siblings at the bottom of the hill and wave.
The narrator says, COOKIE, CANDY, AND PUDDING.
KID-E-CATS.
The siblings smile.
Cookie and Pudding say, WE'RE CUTE!
Candy says, BUT I'M CUTER.
Together, the siblings say, ME-WOW!
The title reads, Kid-e-Cats.
The narrator reads the episode title.
They say, THE MECHANIC.
[Gentle music plays]
Daddy drives down a street with Cookie, Cady and Pudding.
The narrator says, ONE DAY, DADDY AND THE
KITTENS WERE GOING TO VISIT
GRANDPA.
[Car rumbling]
[Car beeping]
Daddy says, UH-OH, LOOKS LIKE THERE'S
SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.
I'D BETTER CHECK IT.
He pulls over on the side of the road, gets out, and puts a warning sign behind the car.
[Daddy groaning]
Cookie, Candy and Pudding watch Daddy walk back to the car. The hazard lights flash.
[Beeping]
Daddy opens the car hood, and smoke billows out.
[Daddy couching]
Daddy takes a step back.
He says, OH, SORRY, KITTENS.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding join Daddy at the hood of the car.
Daddy says, LOOKS LIKE WE'LL HAVE TO VISIT
GRANDPA ANOTHER TIME.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding sigh, OH, NO.
Cookie says, BUT DADDY, CAN'T YOU JUST
REPAIR THE CAR?
Daddy says IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE, COOKIE.
OUR CAR IS OVERHEATED.
He walks over to the driver’s seat.
Daddy says, LOOK, SEE HERE?
A red light flashes on the dashboard.
[Beeping continues]
Cookie, Candy and Pudding look at the flashing light on a thermometer icon.
Candy says, IT HAS A FEVER, DOES THAT
MEAN OUR CAR IS SICK?
Daddy says, YOU COULD SAY THAT, YES.
WE NEED TO GET THE CAR TO A
MECHANIC SHOP, WHICH IS KIND OF
LIKE A HOSPITAL FOR CARS.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding say, A HOSPITAL?
They imagine cars in hospital beds. A red car is connected to a monitor, and a blue car has a giant thermometer in its door.
[Beeping]
[Wheezing]
[Blue car coughing]
Smoke billows out of the blue car's hood. A green car's window is bandaged.
[Green car honking]
In reality, Daddy closes the car hood.
He asks, WOULD YOU KITTENS LIKE TO
LEARN A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT
HOW THEY FIX CARS?
Cookie, Candy and Pudding cheer, YEAH!
SO AWESOME!
Cookie and Pudding hold Candy’s paws, and they all wiggle their arms.
They cheer, ME-WOW, ME-WOW,
ME-WOW, ME-WOW!
Elsewhere on the street, a flatbed truck driver drives down a street with Daddy’s car on the flatbed.
The narrator says, A TOW TRUCK CAME TO TAKE THE
CAR AWAY.
DADDY AND THE KITTENS FOLLOWED
IN A TAXI.
A taxi driver follows the truck with Daddy, Cookie, Candy and Pudding. In a garage, cars line the wall. Cookie, Candy and Pudding look around.
Cookie says, OH, WOW, THIS PLACE IS
AWESOME!
Cookie, Candy and Pudding follow Daddy to a blue-haired cat looking under the hood of a purple car.
Daddy says, HE'S THE CAR DOCTOR.
HE'S CALLED A MECHANIC.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding says, HELLO, THERE!
The blue-haired cat, the Mechanic, says, HELLO.
Candy says, OUR CAR GOT TOO HOT.
CAN YOU GIVE IT SOME MEDICINE
AND TAKE ITS FEVER AWAY?
THEN WE CAN GO VISIT GRANDPA!
The Mechanic says, HAH, CARING FOR CARS IS
A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
THE FIRST THING WE DO IS LISTEN
TO THE CAR'S MOTOR, LIKE A
DOCTOR LISTENS TO HEARTBEATS.
He starts the purple car.
[Sputtering]
[Rattling]
Pudding says, OH, IT SOUNDS HOARSE AND
RATTLEY.
The Mechanic says, AND ONCE WE GET IT ALL FIXED
UP, IT'LL STOP MAKING SUCH A
RACKET.
He turns the car off.
Cookie says, BUT OUR CAR HAS NEVER RATTLED
OR SOUNDED HOARSE.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?
The Mechanic says, WE'LL FIGURE THAT OUT NOW.
He closes the hood on the purple car and walks over to Daddy’s car. The Mechanic opens the hood and looks inside. Cookie, Candy and Pudding follow the Mechanic. The Mechanic scratches his head.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding follow the Mechanic to the driver’s seat. The Mechanic opens the door and plugs a device into an outlet by the pedals.
[Beeping]
The Mechanic starts the car.
[Rumbling]
Smoke billows out of the exhaust pipe. The Mechanic checks a device in his pocket.
The Mechanic says, AH, LOOKS LIKE THE COOLING
SYSTEM IS BROKEN.
He shows Cookie, Candy and Pudding the device. On the device, the thermometer icon is red.
[Beeping]
Mechanic says, NOW, WE'LL FIGURE OUT WHY THAT
HAPPENED.
Pudding asks, IS THAT GOING TO TAKE A LONG
TIME?
The Mechanic says, IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU
SHOULD RUSH.
WE'LL NEED TO LOOK UNDER THE
CAR.
Cookie closes the door. He crawls on the floor and looks under the car. The Mechanic looks confused.
[Cookie grunting]
Pudding looks under the car. Candy looks thoughtful.
Daddy smiles and says, NOT LIKE THAT, KITTENS.
THE CAR HAS TO BE LIFTED UP BY A
VERY SPECIAL MACHINE!
Elsewhere in the garage, the Mechanic presses a button on a box. The button has an upward pointing arrow.
[Whirring]
A machine lifts Daddy’s car high. Daddy, Cookie, Candy and Pudding watch the car rise. The Mechanic walks under the car. He shines a flashlight under the car.
The Mechanic says, HM, FOUND YOUR PROBLEM HERE.
THE RADIATOR HOSE IS BROKEN.
Daddy frowns and looks under the car. Cookie, Candy and Pudding follow.
The Mechanic says, SEE THERE?
WE NEED TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW
ONE.
He walks away.
Cookie says, BOY, REPLACE IT?
CAN'T WE JUST STICK A BANDAGE ON
IT AND STILL GO SEE GRANDPA
TODAY?
Candy says, YEAH!
WE PUT BANDAIDS ON ALL
OUR SCRATCHES AND THEY HEAL
RIGHT UP.
[Daddy laughing]
Daddy says, OUR BODIES ARE SMART ENOUGH
TO HEAL OUR SCRATCHES, BUT A CAR
CAN'T.
Candy says, THE POOR THING.
[Rattling]
The Mechanic pushes a tool cabinet across the garage.
He says, THAT'S WHY IT'S VERY
IMPORTANT TO TAKE YOUR CAR IN
FOR CHECK-UPS, SO YOU WON'T
BREAK DOWN OUT ON THE ROAD.
The Mechanic grabs different-sized wrenches off the tool cabinet.
Pudding asks Daddy, WHEN DID YOU LAST BRING IT IN
FOR A CHECKUP?
Daddy says, WELL, IT HAS BEEN A WHILE.
I THINK IT'S OVERDUE FOR A
CHECK-UP!
[Cookie and Pudding sighing]
Candy says, IT'S IMPORTANT THOUGH, WE
HAVE TO BE SURE OUR CAR IS IN
GOOD HEALTH.
I HAVE A REALLY GOOD IDEA!
WE SHOULDN'T DRIVE TO GRANDPA'S
HOUSE.
WE SHOULD HAVE OUR CAR CHECKED
AND FIXED INSTEAD.
Pudding says, I AGREE.
WE DON'T WANT TO GET STUCK WHILE
WE'RE ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
The Mechanic works on Daddy’s car. Cookie, Candy and Pudding walk away.
The narrator says, THE KID-E-CATS DECIDED THAT
THEY WOULDN'T HURRY ANYWHERE SO
THAT THE MECHANIC COULD DO HIS
JOB WITHOUT RUSHING.
In a waiting room, Daddy, Cookie, Candy and Pudding sit on a couch. Cookie plays a game. Daddy reads a magazine. Pudding and Candy sleep against each other.
[Game beeping]
The Mechanic enters the waiting room and wipes his hands on a towel.
The Mechanic says, I REPLACED THE BROKEN HOSE
AND DOUBLE-CHECKED EVERYTHING
ELSE.
Pudding and Candy wake up.
The Mechanic says, THE BRAKES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE,
AND ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS LOOK
GOOD AS WELL.
Candy jumps off the couch and runs up to the Mechanic.
Cand asks, DOES THAT MEAN OUR CAR IS
HEALTHY AGAIN?
The Mechanic says, YES, IT'S JUST AS GOOD AS
NEW.
Daddy says, THAT'S WONDERFUL, THANKS!
He hops off the couch and puts the magazine on a coffee table.
Daddy says, ALRIGHT, KITTENS, IT'S TIME TO
HEAD HOME.
Cookie, Candy and Pudding cheer, YEAH!
Daddy drives down a street. Cookie, Candy and Pudding look sad.
The narrator says, THE KITTENS WERE HAPPY THAT
THE CAR WAS FIXED AGAIN, BUT
STILL FELT A LITTLE SAD ABOUT
NOT SEEING THEIR GRANDPA.
Daddy, Cookie, Candy and Pudding return home. Cookie, Candy and Pudding leave the car and slowly walk toward the house. Grandpa opens the front door.
[Door squeaking]
Grandpa says, HELLO, MY DARLINGS!
Cookie, Candy and Pudding cheer, IT'S GRANDPA!
They run and hug Grandpa. Daddy closes his car door and smiles.
[Car door banging]
Grandpa says, I HEARD THAT YOUR CAR BROKE
DOWN, SO I CAME TO SEE YOU ALL
MYSELF.
Cookie, Candy, and Pudding say, SO AWESOME!
Cookie and Pudding hold Candy’s paws, and they all wiggle their arms.
They cheer, ME-WOW, ME-WOW,
ME-WOW, ME-WOW!
Inside, Grandpa eats at the table with Mommy, Daddy, Cookie, Candy, and Pudding.
The narrator says, THAT'S HOW THE KITTENS
LEARNED THAT CARS NEED REGULAR
CHECKUPS TO KEEP THEM WORKING
SMOOTHLY, SO THAT YOU NEVER
HAVE TROUBLE ON THE ROAD TO
SOMEWHERE NICE.
