A narrator says, IN THIS LITTLE TOWN LIVES A KITTEN NAMED COOKIE, HIS BIG BROTHER PUDDING, AND THEIR LITTLE SISTER CANDY. LOTS OF OTHER KITTENS LIVE HERE TOO.
Kittens wave happily.
The narrator says, COOKIE, CANDY, AND PUDDING! KID-E-CATS!
Striped red text beneath Pudding, Candy and Cookie reads, “Kid-E-Cats.”
Cookie and Pudding say, WE'RE CUTE!
Candy says, BUT I'M CUTER!
All three say, ME-WOW!
Thick snow covers the Kid-E-Cats yellow two-storey house and the ground around it. The walkway to the front door is cleared, with two large mounds of snow in the front yard.

[Chiming]
In the house, the kittens stand beside the trapdoor to the basement and look down with wide eyes.
[Clattering, Daddy cat groaning]
The narrator says, ONE MORNING, IT SEEMED TO THE KITTENS THAT DADDY WAS ACTING A BIT STRANGE.
Pudding asks, WHAT'S HE DOING?
Daddy cat runs out of the basement and past the kittens. He carries bags. The kittens chase him across the living room.
[Daddy cat panting]
Candy asks, DADDY, WHAT'S GOING ON? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING SO FAST?
Daddy cat says, SORRY, KITTENS, I HAVEN'T GOT MUCH TIME. MY DEADLINE IS COMING AND I STILL HAVE SO MUCH TO DO!
Ingredients fall from the bottom of a bag and leave a trail behind Daddy cat.
[Rustling]
The kittens ask, DEADLINE?
In the kitchen, Daddy cat says, THAT'S RIGHT, AT NOON TODAY, AND I HAVE TO MAKE 40 MUFFINS BY THEN OR I'LL BE BEHIND.
Daddy pours flour into a bowl.
[Rustling, Daddy cat gasping]
Daddy cat says, OH, NO, NO, NO!
He takes a pot with boiling liquid off the stove.
[Bubbling, Daddy cat panting, blowing]
Daddy cat says, OH, THIS SILLY DEADLINE.
[Clock ticking, upbeat music plays]
Cookie says, I WONDER WHO IS THIS MYSTERIOUS DEADLINE.
Pudding says, I DON'T KNOW, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE DADDY REALLY DOESN'T WANT HIM TO COME.
In a daydream, the door to the kittens’ house shakes. A fluffy purple Deadline cat enters the house and smiles.
[Slide whistle, loud knocking, door creaking, slamming, sniffing]
Candy says, WELL, WHOEVER HE IS, HE MUST REALLY LIKE MUFFINS. DADDY SAID HE'S MAKING 40 OF THEM. THAT'S A LOT.
Cookie says, I WONDER IF HE HAS 40 HANDS, ONE FOR EACH MUFFIN.
Deadline cat sits at the dining room table. A tray of muffins is placed on the table, and Deadline cat lifts six hands.
[Clunking, whooshing, grunting, munching, chuckling]
Pudding says, AND A BIG GOBBLY MOUTH.
The daydream ends.
[Slide whistle]
Cookie says, LET'S HELP DADDY, THAT WAY HE'LL FINISH ALL THE MUFFINS BEFORE THE DEADLINE COMES.
[Happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
Pudding says, HEY, MAYBE WE SHOULD LOCK THE DOOR, THAT WAY THE DEADLINE CAN'T GET IN.
In a daydream, Pudding and Cookie carry a stool to the door. Outside, Deadline cat throws himself against the door.
[Slide whistle, knocking, grunting, banging]
Candy asks, WHAT IF HE CLIMBS IN THROUGH THE WINDOW OR DOWN THE CHIMNEY?
In the daydream, Deadline cat climbs through a second-storey window. He squeezes into the chimney.
[Squeaking, banging, slide whistles]
The daydream ends.
Cookie says, IF WE CAN'T KEEP HIM FROM GETTING IN, MAYBE WE CAN CATCH HIM.
[Upbeat music plays]
Pudding says, A TRAP WOULD BE GOOD.
Cookie looks down at the trail of ingredients on the carpet.
He says, WE'LL USE THESE ARE BAIT, ALMONDS, PISTACHIOS, AND APRICOTS.
The smiling kittens crawl backwards and collect the ingredients off the carpet. They make a new trail leading to the basement.
[Upbeat music plays]
The narrator says, SO, THE KITTENS LAID OUT THE BAIT TO LURE THE DEADLINE INTO THEIR TRAP.
In the basement, the kittens prop a basin up with a stick.
[Ticking]
The kittens wait in the basement at the end of a string tied to the stick.
Pudding says, WHEN HE GRABS THE LAST APRICOT, WHAM, HE'S TRAPPED.
Cookie asks, BUT WHAT IF HE DOESN'T LIKE APRICOTS?
Candy says, WE NEED TO PUT INSIDE THE TRAP SOMETHING THE DEADLINE WANTS THE MOST. THEN HE'LL CLIMB IN.
Cookie and Pudding say, A MUFFIN!
The kittens peer through the doorway into the kitchen. Daddy cat stands with his back to the doorway and mixes ingredients in a bowl using a hand blender. A plate with six muffins is on a counter behind him. Cookie runs over and takes a muffin from the plate. The kittens run back to the basement.
[Whirring, upbeat music plays, footsteps pattering]
In the basement, Pudding holds the string for the trap.
[Ticking, Pudding sniffing, sighing]
Pudding says, BOY, THAT MUFFIN SMELLS SO GOOD.
Cookie says, NO WONDER THE DEADLINE WANTS SO MANY.
In the kitchen, Daddy cat says, WELL, WE HAVE NUTS, CANDIED FRUIT. WONDER ELSE WE SHOULD PUT IN. HM, I'LL CHECK THE PANTRY AND SEE WHAT WE GOT IN THERE.
In the basement, Cookie asks, ANYBODY ELSE FEELING KIND OF HUNGRY?
Pudding says, YEAH.
Candy says, HERE WE CAN EAT SOME OF GRANDMA'S BLUEBERRIES.
Daddy cat walks towards the basement. He stops and looks at the trail.
[Footsteps pattering]
Daddy cat says, OH, I MUST HAVE SPILLED THESE BEFORE.
[All chewing]
Pudding says, YUMMY!
Candy says, QUIET, PUDDING, I HEAR SOMEONE COMING.
Daddy cat enters the basement and stops.
[Footsteps pattering, Daddy cat gasping, sniffing]
Daddy cat says, HM, I KNOW THAT SMELL. OH, ONE OF MY MUFFINS. HOW DID THAT GET IN THERE?!
Daddy cat reaches for the muffin, and Pudding drops the trap on him.
[Banging, Daddy cat grunting, grim music plays]
The kittens say, WE CAUGHT YOU, DEADLINE.
Cookie and Pudding lie down on top of the basin.
[Thumping, Daddy cat grunting]
Daddy cat says, KITTENS, LET ME OUT, WILL YOU!?
Pudding says, INTERESTING, DEADLINE'S VOICE SOUNDS A LOT LIKE DADDY'S.
Pudding and Cookie slide off the basin, and Daddy cat lifts one side.
[Rustling]
The kittens say, DADDY!
Candy says, WE THOUGHT YOU WERE THE DEADLINE.
[Daddy cat chuckling]
Daddy cat says, AW, I THINK THERE'S BEEN A MISUNDERSTANDING, KIDS.
Daddy cat leads the kittens through the living room. He carries the jar of blueberries.
Daddy cat says, A DEADLINE'S NOT A MONSTER, IT'S JUST HOW MUCH TIME YOU'VE GOT, LIKE HOW MUCH YOU'VE GOT TO FINISH YOUR WORK OR ANY OTHER CHORE.
Pudding puts the plate with the muffin on the dining room table.
[Plate clattering]
Pudding asks, SO, IF YOU ASK US TO TIDY UP OUR ROOM BEFORE LUNCH TIME, THEN LUNCH TIME IS OUR DEADLINE?
Daddy cat says, THAT'S RIGHT, PUDDING.
Cookie says, WE THOUGHT HE WAS TRYING TO GOBBLE UP ALL YOUR MUFFINS.
Pudding says, WE'RE SORRY, DADDY. WE WERE JUST TRYING TO HELP.
[Daddy cat laughing]
Daddy cat says, BUT YOU DID HELP ME. WHEN I SAW YOU HOLDING THIS JAR OF GRANDMA'S BERRIES, I KNEW JUST WHAT I WANTED TO FILL MY LAST MUFFINS WITH.
Candy says, WE'LL MAKE YOU A PROMISE, DADDY.
[Dinging]
Candy says, NEXT TIME THERE'S A WORD WE DON'T UNDERSTAND, WE'LL ASK YOU WHAT IT MEANS, OKAY?
Daddy cat says, GREAT, NOW I'LL MAKE SOME BLUEBERRY MUFFINS JUST FOR US, THEN WE'LL ALL SIT TOGETHER AND HAVE THEM WITH TEA AND BUTTER.
[Happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
Later, Daddy cat puts a plate with five muffins on the dining room table. The kittens each take one and eat it.
[Plate clattering, happy music plays]
The narrator says, AND, SO, THE KITTENS LEARNED WHAT A DEADLINE WAS, AND THEN THEY ENJOYED SOME OF DADDY'S DELICIOUS BLUEBERRY MUFFINS.
[Clock chiming]
WELL, LOOKS LIKE WE MADE THE DEADLINE.
