Episode title: Not All Trash is Rubbish.
[Chiming, cheerful music plays]
The narrator says, ONE DAY, MOMMY ASKED THE KITTENS TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH.
Mommy cat says, NOW, KITTENS, BE SURE TO PUT THE PLASTIC BOTTLES INSIDE THE YELLOW BIN, THE PAPER ITEMS IN THE BLUE, AND THE CARTONS INSIDE THE GREEN, OKAY?
Mommy cat imagines the recycling falling into the proper bins.
[Slide whistle, thumping, slide whistle]
Daddy cat says, AND BE SURE TO COME RIGHT BACK. THE BANANA CAKE IS ALMOST DONE.
Cookie says, BANANA CAKE?
[Happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
The kittens carry the recycling outside. Candy stops and turns towards the house.
[Sniffing]
Candy says, AH. DOESN'T THAT BANANA CAKE SMELL YUMMY?
[Sniffing]
Pudding says, YEAH.
[Sniffing]
Cookie says, DADDY MAKES THE BEST BANANA CAKE IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
Cookie says, QUICK. LET'S HURRY! IT'S PROBABLY READY BY NOW.
The kittens throw all of the recycling into the yellow bin.
[Thumping, banging]
They run back into the house. In the dining room, Daddy cat serves the cake. Mommy cat pours tea.
[Soothing music plays, tea splashing]
Mommy cat says, THAT SURE WAS SPEEDY. DID YOU PUT EACH BAG INTO THE CORRECT BIN FOR MOMMY?
Cookie says, OH. OH, BOY. WE WANTED TO GET BACK IN TIME FOR CAKE AND WE FORGET ALL ABOUT IT.
Candy says, WE JUST THREW THEM ALL IN ONE CONTAINER.
Mommy cat says, THE SAME ONE?
Pudding says, BUT MOMMY, IT'S ONLY TRASH, RIGHT? HOW COME IT HAS TO GO IN DIFFERENT PLACES?
[Cutlery clinking]
Daddy cat says, BECAUSE IT ALL HAS TO GO TO A SPECIAL FACTORY, PUDDING. THEY'LL RECYCLE IT AND MAKE IT INTO SOMETHING NEW, YOU SEE?
Cookie says, SOMETHING NEW, DADDY? THAT'S SO COOL.
Cookie imagines bottles thrown into a recycling bin. A chair made of plastic bottles pops out, and Daddy cat sits on it.
[Clattering, slide whistle, energetic music plays, thumping]
In the daydream, Daddy cat says, HMM. OH.
The chair collapses beneath him, and the daydream ends.
[Slide whistle]
In reality, Mommy cat says, I'LL BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD MAKE LOVELY CLOTH OUT OF PLASTIC, LIKE THE FABRIC I USED TO MAKE PUDDING'S HAT.
In a daydream, bottles turn into green cloth. The daydream ends.
[Slide whistles, rustling, slide whistle]
In reality, Pudding says, MY HAT'S MADE OUT OF PLASTIC, MAMA?
[Laughing]
Pudding says, I HAD NO IDEA.
In a daydream, cartons turn into a shiny pen.
[Slide whistle, rumbling, chiming, slide whistle]
Daddy cat says, THEY CAN ALSO MAKE INTERESTING THINGS OUT OF JUICE AND MILK CARTONS, LIKE BALLPOINT PENS, FOR INSTANCE.
The daydream ends.
[Slide whistle]
In reality, Daddy cat says, THAT'S HOW MY FAVOURITE PEN WAS CREATED, SEE?
In a daydream, newspaper bundles turn into a roll of paper towels. The daydream ends.
[Slide whistles, rumbling, slide whistle]
In reality, Mommy cat says, LOTS OF PAPER PRODUCTS ARE MADE FROM OLD NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES. OUR KITCHEN NAPKINS ARE MADE FROM RECYCLED PAPER.
The kittens say, SO, TRASH ISN'T JUST TRASH.
Daddy cat says, THAT'S RIGHT, KITTENS. AND IF WE DON'T REMEMBER TO RECYCLE OUR TRASH EVERY DAY, IT'LL JUST SIT IN A LANDFILL AND POLLUTE OUR PLANET.
In a daydream, green vapour rises from trash covering the whole planet.
[Slide whistle, ominous music plays, planet coughing, slide whistle]
In reality, Mommy cat says, AND HAVING COLOUR-CODED BINS OUTSIDE HELPS TO SEPARATE IT PROPERLY. THAT WAY, THE RIGHT KIND OF TRASH GOES TO THE PROPER LOCATION.
Candy says, OH, WOW. LET'S GO OUTSIDE AND SEPARATE OUR TRASH CORRECTLY.
The narrator says, BUT THE KITTENS WERE TOO LATE. THE GARBAGE COLLECTOR HAD ALREADY COME AND GONE.
The garbage truck drives away with the bins on the back of the truck.
[Engine rumbling]
Pudding says, AW. WE JUST MISSED HIM. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW?
Daddy cat says, AH, DON'T WORRY, PUDDING. WE'LL JUST CATCH UP WITH HIM IN OUR CAR.
Daddy cat drives behind the garbage truck.
[Upbeat music plays, Cookie giggling]
Cookie says, SHH. HELLO? CALLING ALL CARS. FOLLOW THAT GARBAGE TRUCK.
[Laughing]
Candy says, LOOK. HE'S REALLY CLOSE.
Daddy cat stops at a red light.
[Engine humming]
Daddy cat says, AW. RED LIGHT. ISN'T THAT ALWAYS THE WAY?
[Chuckling]
A cat with white hair uses a walker as she crosses the street. Daddy cat taps his fingers on the steering wheel. The light turns green, and the white-haired cat rests in front of Daddy and the kittens.
[Tapping, grunting]
The white-haired cat says, 'AFTERNOON.
Daddy cat says, 'AFTERNOON.
The kittens say, 'AFTERNOON.
[Tapping, car engine humming]
Daddy stops the car at the next intersection.
Daddy cat says, I'M SORRY, KITTENS. IT LOOKS LIKE WE'VE LOST HIM.
Pudding says, OH, NO. WITH OUR TRASH IN THE WRONG BINS, ALL THE RECYCLING WILL BE COMPLETELY RUINED, AND THERE WON'T BE ANY MORE HATS OR PENS OR ANYTHING.
[Crying]
Cookie says, BUT THE GARBAGE TRUCK MUST BE HEADED SOMEWHERE, RIGHT, DADDY?
Daddy cat says, TO PICK UP OTHER TRASH, I WOULD IMAGINE.
Candy says, I HAVE A REALLY GREAT IDEA. WHY DON'T WE FIND OUT WHERE ELSE THERE'S A RECYCLING BIN? THEN, WHEN HE GOES TO PICK UP THEIR TRASH, WE CAN CATCH UP WITH HIM.
Daddy cat says, WHOA. GOOD THINKING, CANDY. I'LL BET IF WE GO ONLINE, WE CAN FIND A MAP OF ALL THE RECYCLING BINS IN THE AREA.
Pudding takes out his smartphone and types.
[Beeping]
Pudding says, HEY, LOOK. THERE'S A PICKUP SCHEDULE. THE NEXT PICKUP WILL HAPPEN IN 15 MINUTES.
Daddy cat says, ONWARD.
Later, Daddy cat and the kittens run to the garbage truck.
[Daddy cat chuckling, whirring]
Daddy cat says, GOOD AFTERNOON.
The kittens say, GOOD AFTERNOON.
The worker says, RIGHT BACK AT YOU. WHAT CAN I HELP YOU WITH?
Cookie says, PARDON ME, SIR, BUT DID YOU PICK UP OUR TRASH?
The worker says, MORE THAN LIKELY. THAT'S MY JOB, AFTER ALL.
[Chuckling]
Candy says, YOU SEE, WE PUT ALL OUR DIFFERENT TRASH INTO JUST ONE BIN, AND WE DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO SEPARATE IT.
Pudding says, THAT'S WHY WE WANTED TO CATCH UP WITH YOU.
Worker says, SURE THING. I GET YOU. WON'T BE TOO HARD, I BET. WHERE MIGHT YOUR TRASH BE?
The kittens point and say, RIGHT THERE.
The worker opens the yellow bin on the truck and takes out the bags.
[Clunking, rustling, upbeat music plays]
The worker says, AH. HAHA. OOH.
He sorts the recycling and closes the bins.
[Grunting, clattering]
The worker says, THERE. EVERYTHING GOOD AND SORTED.
Daddy cat and the kittens say, THANKS SO MUCH.
Daddy cat says, NOW, WHAT DO YOU SAY WE GO ON HOME AND FINISH UP OUR BANANA CAKE?
[Happy music plays]
The kittens say, SO AWESOME.
They hold hands and sing, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW, MEWOW!
Daddy cat and the kittens drive towards home.
The narrator says, AND SO, THE KITTENS LEARNED THE IMPORTANCE OF SORTING OUT THEIR TRASH, AND THEY NEVER ONCE MIXED UP THEIR RECYCLING AGAIN.
[Upbeat music plays]
