Transcript: Color Fun/A Super Invention
A staircase spirals around the tree trunk of the Treeborhood. Tiny houses are nestled in the tree. In the Wombat’s house, Malik, a blue-grey wombat; Zadie, a purple wombat; and Zeke, a yellow wombat, sleep in hammocks. They wake up, jump out of their hammocks, and high-five each other. Their grandmother, Super, a blue wombat with pink hair, pours milk and breakfast cereal into their bowls. Zeke holds his stuffed wombat, Snout. The children leave the house and slide across tree branches.
[Slide whistle, rhythmic music plays]
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, WHEN THERE'S A PROBLEM, WHAT DO WE SAY? WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S ALWAYS WAY. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS.
Zadie sings, WE'VE GOT IDEAS FOR DAYS.
Malik sings, SOLVE PROBLEMS LOTS OF WAYS.
Zeke sings, I LOVE IT WHEN WE PLAY…
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, ALL TOGETHER.
Ellie, an orange moose, jumps on a trampoline, and her blue hat flies off. In a hot air balloon basket, Malik catches the hat and returns it to Ellie.
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
Zadie sings, HEY, I'M ZADIE; BRING ON THE PROBLEMS. TRY SOME DIFFERENT THINGS 'TIL WE SOLVE 'EM.
Zadie puts apples on a table. The apples fall, and Zadie and Mr. E, a green iguana with a black bowler hat, pick the apples up.
[Whooshing, slide whistle]
Malik sings, I'M MALIK, WE'LL WORK IT OUT, JUST WAIT. WE MAKE SOME PLANS, AND THEN WE BUILD AND CREATE.
Malik rides in a go-kart with his friend JunJun, a pink Philippine Eagle. They both wear helmets.
Zeke sings, I'M ZEKE, HERE'S SNOUT, WE LIKE TO EXPLORE.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, LET'S GO DO IT, ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR. HELP'S NEVER FAR AWAY, THAT'S FOR SURE. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. COME JOIN THE FUN, YOU READY? LET'S GO. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. YEAH!
Title: Work It Out Wombats.
Episode title: Colour Fun.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke dance and imitate robots. They stretch out their arms and fall forward.
[All blowing raspberries]
Text reads, “Written by Darnell Lamont Walker. Directed by Jeff Barker. Song by Randy Rogel.”
In their bedroom, Malik lies on a platform, Zadie bounces a ball off the underside of the platform, and Zeke sits on the floor. Zeke's shoulders slump.
[Malik sighing, gentle music plays, ball thumping, soft slide whistles]
Zeke says, THERE'S NOTHING TO DO.
Malik says, I'VE GOT AN IDEA FOR SOMETHING WE CAN DO.
[Zeke gasping]
Malik runs to a slide and slides down to the floor.
[Slide whistle, suspenseful music plays]
Malik asks, ARE YOU READY FOR IT?
Zeke says, YEAH!
Zadie says, MMHM?
Malik says, READ KAYLEE KOALA COMIC BOOKS!
Malik holds up his comic books.
Zadie says, WE'VE READ THEM. ALL OF THEM.
[Yawning]
Zadie says, WE EVEN KNOW ALL THE WORDS.
Zadie jumps up and swings from the platform.
[Boinging, upbeat music plays]
Zadie says, "I AM KAYLEE KOALA. READY FOR ADVENTURE."
Super says, RED!
[Splattering]
Super says, YELLOW!
[Splattering, slide whistles]
Super says, BLUE!
[Splattering]
Zadie says, SOUNDS LIKE GRANDMA'S DOING SOMETHING FUN.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke squeeze through their bedroom door at the same time. They run to their deck, where Super throws paint at a canvas on an easel.
[Grunting, upbeat music plays]
The wombat children say, OOH.
Super says, RED.
[Splattering]
Zeke asks, WHY AREN'T YOU USING A PAINTBRUSH, GRANDMA?
Super replies, BECAUSE I LIKE TO THROW MY WHOLE SELF INTO MY ART.
Super winds her arm and throws yellow paint at the canvas.
[Zeke giggling, Super grunting]
Super says, YELLOW!
[Slide whistle, splattering]
Malik asks, DID YOU SEE THAT?
Super spins and throws blue paint.
[Grunting]
Super says, BLUE!
[Splattering, Malik gasping, upbeat music plays]
Malik says, SHE DID IT AGAIN. WHENEVER GRANDMA SAYS A COLOUR, SHE THROWS THE PAINT IN A DIFFERENT WAY.
[Gasping]
Malik says, WE COULD MAKE UP A GAME LIKE THAT.
Zeke says, HOW WILL WE PLAY? WE DON'T HAVE PAINT.
Zadie says, WE DON'T NEED PAINT. WE ONLY NEED TO SAY THE COLOURS. LIKE, IF SOMEONE SAYS A COLOUR, THEN WE DO SOMETHING FUN.
Malik thinks of a red square.
[Slide whistle, chiming, thought bubble popping]
Malik says, YEAH, SO IF SOMEONE SAYS, "RED," WE DO THE ROBOT. LIKE THIS!
Malik imitates a robot walking.
Malik says, BEEP, BOOP, BEEP, BOOP. BEEP, BEEP.
[Children laughing]
Zadi jumps up and down excitedly. She imagines a yellow square.
[Boinging, slide whistle, chiming, thought bubble popping]
Zadie says, OH, OH, OH! I'VE GOT ONE. IF SOMEONE SAYS, "YELLOW," THEN WE GO…
[Imitating deflating balloon]
Zadie says, AND DEFLATE LIKE A BIG BALLOON, LIKE THIS.
Zadie falls slowly to the floor.
[Imitating deflating balloon]
Zeke says, I HAVE AN IDEA.
Zeke imagines a blue square.
[Slide whistle, chiming, thought bubble popping]
Zeke says, IF SOMEONE SAYS, "BLUE," WE ROLL INTO A BALL AND THEN JUMP UP AND YELL OUT, "KABLOOEY!"
The children shout, KABLOOEY!
[Happy music plays, giggling]
Zeke asks, BUT WHAT IF SOMEONE SAYS ANOTHER COLOUR, LIKE GREEN?
He imagines a yellow square.
[Slide whistle, thought bubble popping, upbeat music plays softly]
Malik says, THEN, UH, WE STAND STILL. WE ONLY MOVE WHEN SOMEONE SAYS RED, YELLOW, OR BLUE.
Zadie says, AND IF SOMEONE FIGURES OUT WHAT MAKES US DO EACH MOVE, THEN THEY CAN PLAY THE GAME WITH US.
In the distance, Kat asks, WHAT ARE DUFFY'S FAVOURITE COLOURS, KIT?
Zeke, Zadie, and Malik smile.
Zeke says, DID SOMEONE SAY "COLOURS?"
They run to the edge of their deck and peer down at Kit and Kat on the grass below the tree. Kat, a crab wearing an orange shirt and red eyeglasses, puts a red rose into a vase. Bunches of red, blue, and yellow flowers lie on the grass.
[Whooshing, upbeat music plays]
Malik says, GAME ON.
The children run to their bedroom and slide down a tube to the grass at the roots of the tree.
[Giggling]
The children shout, WHEE!
The children roll to Kat and Kit.
[Upbeat music ends]
Malik says, HI, KAT, HI, KIT. UH, WHATCHA DOING?
Kat says, OH, WE'RE ARRANGING FLOWERS IN A VASE FOR THE CAFE.
Kit says, WE'RE USING ALL OF DUFFY'S FAVOURITE COLOURS.
Kat says, SHE LOVES RED ROSES.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke imitate robots.
[Happy music plays]
They say, BEEP, BOOP, BEEP, BOOP. BEEP, BEEP, BOOP.
Kat says, I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE ROBOTS, DID YOU?
[Kit laughing]
Kit says, NO, I DID NOT. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE WOMBATS.
Kit picks up the yellow flowers.
Kit says, DUFFY ALSO LOVES YELLOW DAFFODILS.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke slowly fall to the ground.
[Imitating deflating balloons, Kat laughing]
[Kat laughing]
Kit says, THE ROBOTS' BATTERIES MUST HAVE DIED.
Kat says, THROW SOMETHING GREEN IN THERE.
Kit and Kat glance at each other and then look at the children.
[Zeke giggling]
Kat asks, HM, AND BLUE FORGET-ME-NOTS?
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke shout, KABLOOEY!
Kit and Kat startle and burrow into the ground. Malik, Zadie, and Zeke run to the two holes.
[Kit and Kat screaming, rustling]
Zadie says, SORRY, KAT AND KIT. WE DIDN'T MEAN TO SCARE YOU. WE'RE JUST PLAYING A GAME. YOU CAN PLAY, TOO, IF YOU CAN WORK OUT THE RULES.
Kat and Kit leap out of their holes.
[Slide whistle]
Kat says, OH, A CHALLENGE. LET'S THINK IT THROUGH.
[Skittering, Zeke and Malik laughing]
Kit says, KAT, WHENEVER YOU ASKED FOR A DIFFERENT FLOWER, THEY DID SOMETHING ODD. TRY IT.
Kat says, ROSES?
Kit says, COME TO THINK OF IT, KAT, YOU SAID, "RED ROSES."
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke imitate robots.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke say, BEEP, BOOP, BEEP, BOOP.
Kat says, AHA! THEY DO THINGS WHEN WE SAY A COLOUR.
Kit says, I BELIEVE THEY DID THE ROBOT WHEN YOU SAID "RED."
Kat says, YOU GOT IT.
Kit says, BUT WHEN YOU SAID "GREEN…"
The children stand still.
Kat says, THEY DID NOTHING! SO, IT'S NOT ALL COLOURS, ONLY CERTAIN COLOURS.
[Snapping]
Kit says, LIKE YELLOW DAFFODILS!
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke fall slowly to the ground.
[Imitating deflating balloons]
Kat says, AHA! WHAT ABOUT BLUE FORGET-ME-NOTS?
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke shout, KABLOOEY!
Kat jumps up and down.
[Boinging, upbeat music plays]
Kat says, I THINK WE'VE GOT IT! YOU DO THE ROBOT WHEN SOMEONE SAYS, "RED."
Malik, Zadie, Zeke, Kit, and Kat imitate robots.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke say, BEEP, BOOP, BEEP, BOOP, BEEP, BEEP.
Kit says, AND YOU DEFLATE LIKE A BALLOON IF SOMEONE SAYS "YELLOW."
Malik, Zadie, Zeke, Kit, and Kat fall slowly to the ground.
[Imitating deflating balloons]
Kat says, AND YOU GO "KABLOOEY" WHEN SOMEONE SAYS "BLUE."
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke shout, KABLOOEY!
[Kit laughing]
Kit says, THAT WAS FUN!
Kat picks up the vase.
[Clinking]
Kat says, LET'S TAKE THESE COLOURFUL FLOWERS UP TO THE CAFÉ AND SEE WHO ELSE CAN FIGURE OUT THE GAME.
[Slide whistle, whooshing]
In the café in the Treeborhood, Duffy stands behind the counter. Mr. E reads a menu and holds his hand against his chin. Kit puts the vase of flowers on the countertop.
Kit says, HERE'S YOUR FLOWERS, DUFFY. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE COLOURS WE CHOSE, HM?
[Children and Kat giggling]
Mr. E. says, EXCUSE ME, I WAS FIRST IN LINE, AND I'M READY TO ORDER. I'D LIKE THE VEGGIE AND RICE BOWL, PLEASE, WITH RED BELL PEPPER.
[Children, Kit and Kat imitating robots]
Mr. E. says, IS THAT NECESSARY? AND YELLOW SQUASH.
Malik, Zeke, Zadie, Kit and Kat fall slowly to the floor.
[Children, Kit and Kat imitating deflating balloons]
Mr. E. says, WOULD YOU PLEASE FIND ANOTHER VENUE FOR YOUR GYMNASTICS? AND I'LL HAVE BROWN RICE...
Mr. E. looks at the children, Kit and Kat. They stand still.
[Ticking, Zeke giggling]
Mr. E. continues, SMOTHERED IN BLUE CHEESE DRESSING.
Malik, Zeke, Zadie, Kit and Kat shout, KABLOOEY!
Mr. E. startles and stands on the ceiling. He and his black bowler hat fall.
[Mr. E. screaming, slide whistle, crashing]
Mr. E. says, TO GO, PLEASE.
[Drum music plays, soft slide whistle]
Zeke says, SORRY, MR. E. WE WERE JUST PLAYING A GAME.
Malik says, YOU CAN PLAY, TOO, IF YOU WORK OUT THE RULES.
Mr. E. says, HA, THE RULES ARE OBVIOUS. WHEN SOMEONE ORDERS FOOD, YOU DO A BUNCH OF NONSENSE.
Malik says, THAT'S NOT IT, MR. E.
Mr. E. says, NO? HM. I WAS SURE THAT WAS IT.
JunJun carries a basket of laundry out of the café kitchen.
[Rustling, upbeat music plays]
JunJun sings, LALALALA, LALALAUNDRY.
JunJun jumps through the café door.
[Boinging]
Zadie says, JUNJUN WILL LOVE THIS GAME. HE'S GREAT AT WORKING THINGS OUT. COME ON.
Zadie, Malik, and Zeke roll out of the café.
[Whooshing]
Kat says, YOU THREE GO AHEAD. WE'RE GONNA GET SOME LUNCH.
Mr. E. says to himself, I WANT TO PLAY, TOO. WELL, THEN FIGURE OUT THE RULES, MR. E. HOW DO I DO THAT? FOLLOW THEM TO SEE HOW THEY PLAY THE GAME. GOOD IDEA.
[Slide whistles]
Mr. E. rolls past Kit and Kat and hits the open café door.
[Thunking]
Mr. E. says, OOF.
On the ground, the wombat children roll to JunJun. A laundry line string hangs above them.
[Rustling]
Malik says, HI, JUNJUN. UH, WHATCHA DOING?
JunJun says, HANGING LAUNDRY TO DRY.
JunJun flies up to the laundry line and hangs a red towel.
[Flapping, rustling]
Zadie asks, ARE ALL OF YOUR TOWELS THAT COLOUR?
JunJun asks, YOU MEAN RED?
[Wombat children imitating robots]
JunJun says, NO, HERE'S AN ORANGE ONE.
JunJun holds up an orange towel, and the Wombat children stand still. JunJun hangs the orange towel on the line.
[Rustling, Zeke giggling, rustling, gentle music plays]
JunJun says, I ALSO HAVE A YELLOW TOWEL.
Malik, Zadie, and Zeke slowly fall to the ground.
[Imitating deflating balloons]
JunJun says, OH, I GET IT. YOU'RE PLAYING A GAME.
Zadie says, I KNEW JUNJUN WOULD BE GOOD AT THIS.
Zeke says, YOU CAN PLAY, TOO, IF YOU WORK OUT THE RULES.
JunJun says, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Mr. E. crawls across a branch over the children. He pulls out a notebook and a pencil. JunJun takes a blue towel out of the basket.
[Creaking, rustling]
JunJun says, THIS TOWEL IS BLUE.
Zeke, Zadie, and Malik shout, KABLOOEY!
Mr. E. says, KABLOOEY.
[Blowing a raspberry]
Mr. E. says, FOOD, AND NOW TOWELS. IT MAKES NO SENSE.
JunJun says, I KNOW HOW TO PLAY YOUR GAME! THE RULES ARE...
Over speakers, Leiko announces, ATTENTION, TREEBOURHOOD NEIGHBOURS. IT'S STORY TIME IN THE SHH SHH QUIET READING AREA.
Mr. E. says, I CAN'T HEAR JUNJUN.
Mr. E. leans over the side of the branch and falls into the laundry basket.
[Slide whistle, yelping, rustling]
Leiko says, OKAY, SO, I'LL BE READING LEVI LOVES COLOURS.
Leiko picks up a book featuring a smiling giraffe on the cover.
[Popping, upbeat music plays]
Zeke repeats, COLOURS?
Malik says, GAME ON! COME ON, JUNJUN.
JunJun says, BE RIGHT THERE. GONNA MAKE SURE I GOT EVERYTHING HUNG UP TO DRY. WHOA, THIS SHIRT SURE IS HEAVY WHEN IT'S WET.
JunJun hangs a pink shirt on the laundry line and flies away. Mr. E. pokes his head through the shirt's neck, and his feet dangle from the bottom. He wiggles and falls to the ground.
[Slide whistle, grunting, line creaking, flapping, Mr. E. chuckling, grunting, slide whistle]
Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun slide down a slide.
[Children cheering]
In the Shh Shh Quiet Reading Area, a room lined with books and scrolls, Leiko sits on a chair. Louisa, a pink tarsier, sits on a carpet in front of Leiko.
Leiko reads, LEVI LOVES COLOURS.
Zeke says, HI.
Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun sit on the carpet. Mr. E. hides behind a chalkboard and watches the children.
[Rustling, slide whistle]
Leiko reads, "LEVI WAS A YELLOW GIRAFFE."
Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun fall slowly on the floor.
[Imitating deflating balloons]
Mr. E. says, GIRAFFE.
Mr. E. sneaks closer and hides behind a stack of books.
[Slide whistles]
Leiko reads, "LEVI LOVED ALL THE COLOURS IN HIS WORLD. HE LIKED THE TREES FILLED WITH BRIGHT RED BERRIES..."
[Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun imitating robots]
Leiko reads, "AND THE LAGOON, SO PRETTY AND BLUE."
Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun shout, KABLOOEY!
[Leiko clearing throat]
Leiko asks, IS THIS PLAYTIME OR STORY TIME?
Zadie says, UH, SORRY FOR BEING SO NOISY, LEIKO.
[Leiko sighing]
Leiko says, YOU'RE WELCOME HERE ANYTIME, BUT REMEMBER, IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE QUIET AND LISTEN DURING STORY TIME. WHY DON'T YOU COME BACK WHEN YOU CAN BE QUIET, OKAY?
Leiko walks Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun leave the room.
Zeke, Zadie, Malik, and JunJun say, WE'RE SORRY.
[Upbeat music plays]
Mr. E. says, HM, WHERE'D EVERYBODY GO?
[Whooshing]
In the Everything Emporium, Mr. E. paces in front of a bulletin board covered with his notes. He thinks about the colours mentioned by the children.
[Slide whistle, chiming, upbeat music plays]
Mr. E. says, WHEN SOMEONE SAID "RED, YELLOW, OR BLUE," THEY DID SOMETHING, BUT WHAT? LET ME SEE. WHEN I ORDERED THE BLUE CHEESE, THEY ROLLED INTO A BALL AND WENT, "KABLOOEY." AT THE MENTION OF JUNJUN'S BLUE TOWEL, YEP, THEY WENT, "KABLOOEY." THAT'S IT! WHEN SOMEONE SAID, "BLUE," THEY WENT, "KABLOOEY." AND AT THE MENTION OF JUNJUN'S YELLOW TOWEL, THEY DEFLATED...
[Imitating deflating balloon]
Mr. E. continues, LIKE BALLOONS. SAME WITH THE YELLOW GIRAFFE. AND THERE WERE RED BERRIES IN THE STORY. THE ROBOT, THEY DID THE ROBOT WHEN SOMEONE SAID "RED." THAT WAS EASY. WELL, LOOK AT THAT.
He taps a calendar with his pointer.
Mr. E. says, SUPER INVITED ME OVER FOR DINNER TONIGHT, AND I KNOW JUST WHAT I'LL BRING. SOMETHING COLOURFUL.
[Mr. E. cackling]
Later, in the Wombat house, Mr. E. brings the children a bowl of fruit salad.
[Upbeat music plays]
Super says, THANK YOU, MR. E. SIT HERE.
Mr. E. says, I BROUGHT A FRUIT SALAD. IT HAS APPLES. THEY'RE NOT GREEN APPLES, THEY'RE…
[Slide whistle]
Super interrupts, PERFECT IN FRUIT SALAD.
Mr. E. says, AND CORN, BECAUSE IT'S YE…
[Slide whistle]
Super interrupts, UNEXPECTED.
Zadie says, YEAH, WHO PUTS CORN IN A FRUIT SALAD?
[Slide whistle, whooshing]
Mr. E. says, AND BERRIES. NOT RASPBERRIES, NOT STRAWBERRIES, THEY'RE…
Zadie says, DELICIOUS.
Mr. E. slumps on the table. Zeke pats him on the back.
[Mr. E. groaning]
Zeke says, YOU WORKED IT OUT, DIDN'T YOU, MR. E? THAT'S WHY YOU MADE A FRUIT SALAD WITH RED APPLES, YELLOW CORN, AND BLUEBERRIES.
[Slide whistle]
Mr. E. says, BEEP, BOOP, BEEP, BEEP, BOOP.
Mr. E. slowly falls to the floor.
[Imitating deflating balloon]
Mr. E. says, KABLOOEY!
Zeke runs around a table to Mr. E. and pulls his arm down.
[Slide whistle]
Zeke says, SUPER SAYS DINNER TIME IS FOR EATING, NOT PLAYING, MR. E.
Zeke scampers back to his seat. Mr. E. sits on a stool.
[Slide whistle, gentle music plays]
Super says, BUT YOU CAN PLAY AT DESSERT IF YOU LIKE. NOW, IT'S TIME TO EAT DINNER.
Super serves the fruit salad.
[Bowls clattering, everyone chewing]
Super takes three cartons of ice cream out of the freezer.
[Freezer door creaking, slamming]
Super says, DESSERT TIME. WE HAVE RED RASPBERRY, YELLOW LEMON, AND BLUEBERRY!
[Slide whistle, everyone imitating robots, imitating balloons deflating]
Everyone shouts, KABLOOEY!
[Everyone laughing]
Malik runs on a wire and catches a red ball. He throws it, and the ball bounces away from him.
[Slide whistle, rhythmic music plays, thumping]
Super sings, IF YOU DROP THIS BALL, THEN IT BOUNCES.
The ball bounces on a toy sailboat and breaks the sail.
[Crunching]
Super sings, IF THE BALL HITS THIS TOY, THEN IT BREAKS. AND DID YOU KNOW IF YOU STUB YOUR TOE, THEN IT HURTS, FOR GOODNESS' SAKES.
Super stubs her toe on the broken toy.
[Thudding]
Malik turns a wheel attached to a faucet, and water flows through a hose.
[Slide whistles, thunking, squeaking, splashing]
Super sings, IF YOU TURN THE HOSE ON, THEN WATER STARTS TO FLOW. AND IF YOU PUT IT ON PLANTS, THEN FLOWERS START TO GROW.
Malik waters a bush, and red roses grow.
[Rustling]
Super sings, CAUSE AND EFFECT. DO YOU SEE HOW THEY CONNECT? CAUSE AND EFFECT. DO YOU SEE HOW THEY CONNECT?
Malik bounces on the wire. He blows up a green balloon.
[Slide whistle, blowing]
Super sings, IF YOU BLOW UP A BALLOON, KNOW WHEN TO STOP OR THAT BALLOON WILL GET TOO BIG AND POP!
[Super laughing, balloon deflating]
Super sings, OOHOO.
Super puts an ice cube tray filled with water into a freezer and removes it after it freezes.
[Ballon deflating, door clicking]
Super sings, IF YOU PUT WATER IN THE FREEZER, THEN IT'S GONNA TURN TO ICE.
Super drops ice cubes into a jug of lemonade.
[Ice cubes clinking]
Super sings, AND WHEN YOU HUG YOUR SUPER THEN IT MAKES HER FEEL SO NICE. CAUSE AND EFFECT. MY FRIENDS, I DO SUSPECT EVERY ACTION THAT YOU TAKE HAS EFFECTS THAT IT CAN MAKE. CAUSE AND EFFECT. I SEE HOW THEY CONNECT.
Malik jumps into a puddle and splashes Super.
[Splashing]
Super sings, CAUSE AND EFFECT, I SEE HOW THEY CONNECT.
[Slide whistles]
Episode title: A Super Invention.
Super holds blue straps above Zadie, Malik, and Zeke. They jump into the air and grab it.
[Upbeat music plays]
Text reads, “Written by Deanna Oliver. Directed by Jeff Barker.”
In the Wombat house, Super runs with Malik riding on her shoulders.
Super shouts, WOO HOO!
[Both laughing, upbeat music plays]
Super runs with Zadie on her shoulders.
[Both giggling]
Super runs with Zeke on her shoulders.
Zeke says, ME, ME, ME!
Zeke slides down Super’s arm to the floor. The children gather around her, jumping with outstretched arms.
Zeke, Zadie, and Malik say, ME, ME, ME! ME, PLEASE! ME, PLEASE!
Super says, OKAY, OKAY, ONE AT A TIME. WAIT. LET'S FUN IT UP.
[Children cheering]
Super says, I'LL GIVE ALL THREE OF YOU A HUGGY BACK RIDE AT THE SAME TIME.
[Children cheering]
The children leap onto Super’s shoulders.
The children say, OOF!
Zadie says, MALIK, MOVE OVER.
Malik says, NO, NO, NO, YOU MOVE OVER.
Zeke says, DON'T FIGHT; WE'RE HAVING FUN.
Super says, HUG ON TIGHT!
Super stumbles around the room with the children on her shoulders.
Super says, WHOA!
[Super grunting, groaning]
Everyone falls to the floor.
[Shouting, grunting, laughing]
Zeke says, THAT DIDN'T WORK.
Super says, NO, IT DIDN'T. GUESS I CAN'T HUGGY BACK-RIDE ALL OF YOU AT ONCE. OR CAN I?
Super throws each child a notepad, a pencil, and crayons.
[Slide whistles]
Malik says, HUH, WHAT'S THIS FOR?
Super says, TO KEEP YOU ALL BUSY WHILE I GO DOWN INTO MY WORKSHOP TO WORK ON A SPECIAL INVENTION.
Zeke asks, WHAT SPECIAL INVENTION?
Super says, YOU'LL SEE. IT'S A SURPRISE.
Super rolls a rug and reveals a trap door. She pushes a button on a remote, and the trap door slides open.
[Rustling, slide whistle, beeping, whirring]
The children say, WHOA.
A seat pokes through the opening, and Super sits on it. The seat lowers, and the trap door closes behind her. She arrives by her worktable and rolls across the room to a pink tablet and graph paper. She picks up the tablet.
[Wheels rumbling, upbeat music plays]
Super says, I NEED TO CREATE SOMETHING SO I CAN GIVE ALL THREE OF MY LITTLE SQUISHES A HUGGY BACK RIDE AT THE SAME TIME. I'LL CALL MY INVENTION THE HUGGY BACK RIDER. NOW, THE BEST WAY TO PLAN OUT THE DESIGN FOR MY HUGGY BACK RIDER IS TO DRAW IT. THEN I CAN BUILD IT.
[Chuckling]
Super says, I NEED SOMETHING TO CARRY MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE ON MY BACK. HM...
Super glances at a backpack on her worktable.
Super says, AHHA! LIKE A BACKPACK.
[Chuckling]
Super says, GOOD START.
[Chuckling]
Upstairs, the children lie on the floor and draw on the notepads. Zeke sits up.
[Zeke sighing, pencils scribbling]
Zeke says, I WISH I KNEW WHAT SUPER'S INVENTING.
Zadie says, ME, TOO, ZEKE, BUT WE HAVE TO WAIT.
Malik says, IT'S A SURPRISE.
Zeke says, I KNOW IT'S A SURPRISE, BUT HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS? WHY CAN'T I KNOW NOW? I'M GONNA GO SEE.
Zeke pulls on the opening of the trap door.
[Grunting, creaking]
Malik says, UHUH, ZEKE. YOU KNOW WHEN GRANDMA IS DOWN IN HER WORKSHOP, WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BOTHER HER.
[Zeke sighing, sad music plays]
Zeke says, OKAY.
Zeke lies down on the trap door.
Zeke says, MAYBE I CAN HEAR WHAT SHE'S INVENTING FROM UP HERE.
Zadie says, THAT WOULDN'T BOTHER HER.
Zadie and Malik press their ears to the trap door.
[Thumping]
In her workshop, Super says, DON'T WANT TO JUST STUFF THEM IN A BACKPACK. THEY WOULDN'T EVEN FIT.
Super imagines carrying the children crammed into a backpack.
[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]
Super says, MM. BESIDES, THEY NEED THEIR ARMS FREE SO THEY CAN HUG ON TIGHT. I KNOW, THEY COULD ALL STAND TOGETHER ON SOMETHING. I CAN MAKE A BAR FOR THEIR FEET. I CAN ATTACH THE FOOT BAR TO THE SHOULDER STRAPS WITH ROPE, LIKE A SWING. HM. HERE'S A GOOD QUESTION FOR ME. WHERE SHOULD THE FOOT BAR GO? UP HERE, NEAR MY SHOULDERS, MAYBE? IS THAT RIGHT?
On the tablet, Super draws the foot bar by her shoulders. She images the children clinging to her head as she walks.
[Slide whistle, chiming]
Super says, NO, THIS CAN'T BE WHERE THE FOOT BAR GOES. THEY'D BE RIDING TOO HIGH ON MY BACK. SHOULD IT GO DOWN HERE BY MY KNEES, MAYBE? WILL THAT WORK?
She imagines the children falling on the floor.
[Slide whistle, thumping]
Super says, NO, THEY'D BE RIDING TOO LOW. OH, I KNOW! TO KNOW WHERE TO PUT THE FOOT BAR, I NEED TO KNOW HOW TALL MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE ARE. AND TO FIND OUT HOW TALL THEY ARE, I HAVE TO MEASURE THEM.
[Chuckling]
Super rides her chair across the room. It lifts, and the trap door opens. The children scramble away and kneel on the floor by their notepads.
[Whirring, children whistling innocently]
Super asks, WHAT ARE YOU LITTLE SQUISHES UP TO?
Zeke says, WE'RE BALANCING ON OUR BELLIES.
All three children lie down on their bellies with their hands and feet raised.
Super says, SORRY TO INTERRUPT YOU BUT I NEED YOU TO LINE UP, PLEASE.
Super throws a short piece of wood on the floor in front of the children.
[Thunking]
Super says, AH HA. I'M GOING TO NEED A LONGER PIECE OF WOOD.
Malik asks, WHAT FOR?
Super says, YOU'LL SEE. NOW, I NEED TO MEASURE YOU TO SEE HOW TALL YOU ARE.
Super holds a piece of rope beside each child and marks their height with a marker.
Super says, MMHMM, TALL. TALLER. TALLEST, THANKS. GOT TO GO.
Super sits on the chair and drops down into the workshop. The trapdoor closes behind her.
[Whooshing, creaking, laughing]
Zeke asks, SHE NEEDS TO KNOW HOW TALL WE ARE BECAUSE WHY?
Zadie asks, AND WHAT IS SHE GOING TO DO WITH WOOD?
Malik says, I DON'T KNOW, BUT MAYBE WE COULD WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS.
Malik picks up his notepad.
[Rustling, upbeat music plays]
Zadie suggests, MAYBE SHE'S INVENTING A BALANCE BEAM.
Zadie balances on one hand on the piece of wood.
Zeke says, OR A WHOOSH-WHOOSH SLED.
Zadie and Zeke sit on the piece of wood.
[Thumping]
Zadie says, WHOOSH, WHOOSH, WHOOSH!
Malik shows the others a drawing of them riding on a seesaw. Malik is on one side, while Zadie and Zeke sit on the opposite side.
Malik says, OR MAYBE IT'S THIS, AN INDOOR SEESAW. SEE THIS LINE? THAT'S THE CEILING, AND THAT'S ME, AND LOOK, MY HEAD DOESN'T HIT THE CEILING.
[Slide whistle]
Zadie says, THAT'S WHY SHE WANTED TO KNOW HOW TALL WE ARE, SO WE WON'T HIT THE CEILING WHEN WE SEESAW UP.
Malik imagines riding the seesaw.
[Slide whistle, boinging, slide whistles, rustling]
Malik says, EXACTLY.
Zadie says, BUT WAIT! THIS ISN'T LONG ENOUGH FOR A SEESAW.
Malik says, HM, SHE SAID SHE NEEDED A LONGER PIECE. HM, FOLLOW ME!
The children lie with their ears pressed to the trap door.
Malik says, IF WE HEAR THE SOUND OF SAWING WOOD, THEN SHE'S GOT TO BE INVENTING AN INDOOR SEESAW.
In the workshop, Super holds the rope by her back. She draws the foot bar.
[Chiming, slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
Super says, MALIK IS THIS TALL, SO THE FOOT BAR SHOULD GO RIGHT SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BACK. HERE'S THE FOOT BAR, AND HERE'S MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE STANDING ON THE FOOT BAR, AND HERE ARE THE ROPES THAT CONNECT THE FOOT BAR TO THE SHOULDER STRAPS.
[Chuckling]
Super sings, I'M MAKING PROGRESS. I'M MAKING PROGRESS.
[Chuckling]
Super says, HMM. I WONDER HOW STRONG THE ROPE FOR THE FOOT BAR AND THE SHOULDER STRAPS NEED TO BE?
She imagines the rope breaking and the children falling on the floor.
[Slide whistle]
Super says, THEY NEED TO BE STRONG ENOUGH THAT THEY WON'T BREAK WHEN I'M GIVING MY LITTLE SQUISHES A HUGGY BACK RIDE. TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE STRONG ENOUGH, I NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH MALIK, ZADIE, AND ZEKE WEIGH. AND HOW DO I MEASURE HOW MUCH THEY WEIGH? WITH THIS SCALE.
[Slide whistle]
Upstairs, Zadie says, I HEAR SOMETHING.
Malik asks, SEESAW SAWING?
Zadie says, NO, IT'S...
[Creaking]
The children say, GRANDMA'S COMING UP HERE!
Super slides a bookcase to the side and stands on a secret staircase. The children watch her from the trap door.
Super asks, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO NOW?
Malik says, UH, BALANCING ON OUR, UH, UH, ELBOWS?
The children each lean their heads on a hand.
[Super chuckling]
Zadie asks, ARE YOU INVENTING AN INDOOR SEESAW?
Zeke says, MALIK THOUGHT IT UP.
Super takes Malik’s seesaw drawing.
[Ruslting]
Super asks, NO, BUT MAY I KEEP THIS? SOMEDAY, I MIGHT USE THIS DESIGN TO BUILD YOUR WONDERFUL INVENTION. NOW, WILL YOU PLEASE HOLD ONTO THESE STRAPS?
Zadie, Zeke, and Malik jump up and grab the straps. The straps snap and the children fall to the floor.
[Grunting, slide whistle, oofing]
Super says, UH HUH, I'M GOING TO NEED STRONGER STRAPS.
Zeke asks, WHY? FOR WHAT?
Super says, YOU'LL SEE, AND NOW I NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH YOU WEIGH, PLEASE.
Super puts down the scale, and the children step onto it.
[Rustling, scale beeping]
Super says, HMM. AH HA.
Super pushes the button on her remote, and the chair extends through the trap door. She jumps on the chair, lowers it, and the trap door shuts.
[Scale beeping, clicking, whirring, beeping, upbeat music plays]
Zeke asks, SHE NEEDS TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE WEIGH BECAUSE WHY?
Malik says, AND WHAT'S SHE GONNA DO WITH THE STRAPS?
Zadie says, I DON'T KNOW, BUT MAYBE WE COULD WORK IT OUT.
Zadie picks up a notepad and draws.
[Zadie gasping, pencil scratching]
Malik says, I KNOW! SHE'S INVENTING A GO-KART, AND THE STRAPS ARE SEAT BELTS. COME ON, ZEKE.
Malik and Zeke sit on the piece of wood with the broken straps across their laps.
Malik and Zeke say, ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM!
[Happy music plays, shouting, laughing]
Zeke says, OR MAYBE SHE'S INVENTING SOMETHING TO CARRY SNOUT ON, LIKE HE'S A KING.
Zeke puts Snout on the wood, and he and Malik lift it.
[Slide whistle, Zeke singing fanfare]
KING SNOUT.
Zadie says, MAYBE SHE'S INVENTING THIS.
Zadie shows a drawing of the children riding in buckets dangling from a revolving carnival ride.
Zadie says, IT'S A BUCKETS OF FUN CARNIVAL RIDE! SHE HAS TO KNOW HOW TALL WE ARE AND HOW MUCH WE WEIGH SO SHE CAN KNOW WHAT SIZE THE BARRELS HAVE TO BE.
Malik says, I GET IT, AND SHE'LL USE THE WOOD FOR HANDLEBARS FOR US TO HOLD ON TO.
Zadie says, AND STRONG STRAPS TO BUCKLE US INTO THE RIDE.
Zadie imagines the children riding the carnival ride.
[Slide whistles, upbeat music plays]
Malik says, I THINK ZADIE'S RIGHT. SHE'S INVENTING...
Everyone shouts, BUCKETS OF FUN!
They chant, WE WORKED IT OUT, THERE IS NO DOUBT. WE WORKED IT OUT!
In the workshop, Super pins Malik’s drawing to a tilted desk. She draws on the tablet.
[Upbeat music plays]
Super says, NEED WIDER STRAPS AND THICK ROPE TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THREE LITTLE WOMBATS. THE HUGGY BACK RIDER! I DESIGNED IT, NOW I BUILD IT.
Super puts on safety glasses.
Super says, I CAN USE THE SHOULDER STRAPS FROM THIS BACKPACK.
Super cuts the straps off the backpack.
[Scissors sniping, upbeat music plays, slide whistle]
Super says, NEXT, I NEED SOME WOOD TO MAKE THE FOOT BAR. NOW, I NEED TO SEE HOW LONG THE FOOT BAR SHOULD BE.
Super makes three marks on a piece of lumber.
Super says, ONE WOMBAT, TWO WOMBATS, AND THREE WOMBATS.
Super cuts the lumber with a table saw and blows sawdust off the edge.
[Saw whirring, blowing]
Super says, NOW FOR SOME THICK, STRONG ROPE TO ATTACH THE FOOT BAR TO THE SHOULDER STRAPS.
Super runs across the room. She throws the foot bar onto her work table and takes rope out of a drawer.
[Slide whistles, clattering, whooshing]
Later, Super pushes the bookcase to the side. The children stand in a row on the trap door and stare at her.
[Scraping]
Malik says, WE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE INVENTING, A BUCKETS OF FUN CARNIVAL RIDE.
Zeke says, ZADIE THOUGHT IT UP.
Zadie shows Super her drawing.
Super says, NO, BUT MAY I KEEP THIS? SOMEDAY, I MIGHT USE THIS DESIGN TO BUILD YOUR WONDERFUL INVENTION.
Zadie says, WAIT, LET ME SIGN IT FIRST.
[Pencil scribbling]
Super says, PERFECT. THIS IS WHAT I INVENTED.
Super holds up the Huggy Back Rider.
[Slide whistle, happy music plays]
Super says, TADA!
The children say, WOW, WOW, WOW!
Super says, IT'S A HUGGY BACK RIDER. I INVENTED IT SO I CAN GIVE ALL THREE OF YOU A HUGGY BACK RIDE AT THE SAME TIME.
Zeke says, WHOA! HOW DID YOU DO THIS?
Super says, WELL, I GOT THE IDEA, AND THEN I PLANNED OUT MY DESIGN BY DRAWING IT. SEE? AS I WAS DRAWING, I REALIZED I NEEDED TO MEASURE HOW TALL YOU ARE TO GET THE FOOT BAR IN THE RIGHT PLACE, AND I HAD TO MEASURE HOW MUCH YOU WEIGH ALL TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THE STRAPS AND FOOT BAR ROPES WOULD BE STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD YOU, AND THEN I BUILT IT. BING, BANG, BOOM.
[Super laughing]
The children say, WHOA, AMAZING.
Zeke says, IT'S THE BEST THING MY EYES HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!
[Super giggling]
Super says, LET'S TEST IT OUT. CLIMB UP AND STAND ON THE FOOT BAR.
The children leap onto the Huggy Back Rider.
[Whooshing]
Zadie says, IT'S PERFECT.
Malik says, IT'S A SUPER INVENTION.
Super says, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MY LITTLE SQUISHES.
Zeke asks, SO, WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?
[Super laughing]
Super says, RIGHT, OKAY. HUG ON TIGHT. HERE WE GO!
Super runs and carries the children outside.
[Everyone laughing, cheering, happy music plays]
[Upbeat music plays]
