A staircase spirals around the tree trunk of the Treeborhood. Tiny houses are nestled in the tree. In the Wombat’s house, Malik, a blue-grey wombat; Zadie, a purple wombat; and Zeke, a yellow wombat, sleep in hammocks. They wake up, jump out of their hammocks, and high-five each other. Their grandmother, Super, a blue wombat with pink hair, pours milk and breakfast cereal into their bowls. Zeke holds his stuffed wombat, Snout. The children leave the house and slide across tree branches.

[Slide whistle, rhythmic music plays]

Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, WHEN THERE'S A PROBLEM, WHAT DO WE SAY? WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S ALWAYS WAY. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS.

Zadie sings, WE'VE GOT IDEAS FOR DAYS.

Malik sings, SOLVE PROBLEMS LOTS OF WAYS.

Zeke sings, I LOVE IT WHEN WE PLAY…

Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, ALL TOGETHER.

Ellie, an orange moose, jumps on a trampoline, and her blue hat flies off. In a hot air balloon basket, Malik catches the hat and returns it to Ellie.

[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]

Zadie sings, HEY, I'M ZADIE; BRING ON THE PROBLEMS. TRY SOME DIFFERENT THINGS 'TIL WE SOLVE 'EM.

Zadie puts apples on a table. The apples fall, and Zadie and Mr. E, a green iguana with a black bowler hat, pick the apples up.

[Whooshing, slide whistle]

Malik sings, I'M MALIK, WE'LL WORK IT OUT, JUST WAIT. WE MAKE SOME PLANS, AND THEN WE BUILD AND CREATE.

Malik rides in a go-kart with his friend JunJun, a pink Philippine Eagle. They both wear helmets.

Zeke sings, I'M ZEKE, HERE'S SNOUT, WE LIKE TO EXPLORE.

Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, LET'S GO DO IT, ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR. HELP'S NEVER FAR AWAY, THAT'S FOR SURE. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. COME JOIN THE FUN, YOU READY? LET'S GO. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. YEAH!

Title: Work It Out Wombats.

Episode title: The Treeborhood Parranda.

Mr. E. dances behind a microphone. Beside him, Sammy drums on bowls with lids, and Louisa rubs a stick across the side of a tin can.

[Upbeat music plays]

Text reads, “Written by Natalie Vazquez. Song by Sofia Geck. Directed by Jeff Barker, Andrea Gerstmann.”

[Salsa music plays]

Bright lights hang on every level of the Treeborhood.

Over a speaker, Super announces, ATTENTION, TREEBORHOOD! GRAB YOUR INSTRUMENTS AND FIND YOUR GROOVE, BRING YOUR APPETITE FOR YUMMY FOODS. TODAY'S THE DAY WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR, THE FIRST-EVER TREEBORHOOD PARRANDA WITH SPECIAL MUSICAL GUESTS, THE FLAPPING FEATHERS!

[Slide whistle, poster rustling]

Beside Super, Quique unrolls a poster.

Quique says, PARRANDA IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PUERTO RICAN TRADITIONS. I USUALLY HAVE A BIG PARRANDA WITH MY FAMILY IN PUERTO RICO EVERY WINTER.

[Slide whistle, rustling]

He holds a photo album open, showing a photograph of himself, Sammy, and Yolanda; and a photograph featuring himself and his father.

Quique says, FRIENDS AND FAMILY GO DOOR-TO-DOOR WITH INSTRUMENTS, SINGING SONGS AND PLAYING MUSIC, AND EATING DELICIOUS FOOD.

[Rustling]

Quique puts the book under his hat.

Quique says, IT'S GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN TO DO IT WITH THE WHOLE TREEBORHOOD THIS YEAR! LET'S GO CHECK AND SEE IF EVERYONE IS READY FOR THE PARRANDA!

[Crab children giggling, upbeat music plays]

On the beach, the crab family puts lights on their house.

Quique says, THOSE DECORATIONS ARE LOOKING GREAT!

In the wombat house, Super asks, ALMOST READY FOR THE PARRANDA?

Malik emerges from a pile of clothing and holds a trumpet with a ball in the bell.

Malik says, FOUND IT!

[Muffled trumpeting, whooshing, trumpeting, plopping]

Malik blows into the trumpet, and the ball flies out, landing in Super’s hand. She puts in earplugs.

[Tray clattering]

In her house, Gabriella takes a tray of bibingka out of the oven.

Quique says, MM, THE BIBINGKA SMELLS WONDERFUL, GABRIELA! I BET IT TASTES DELICIOUS, TOO. MAYBE I OUGHT TO TRY ONE, JUST TO BE SURE?

[Slide whistle, Gabriella chuckling]

Gabriella picks up the tray and shakes her finger at Quique.

Super says, THINK I'LL CHECK IN WITH THE FLAPPING FEATHERS; THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE BY NOW.

[Dialling, bright music plays]

Super takes out her tablet.

Super says, HELLO, JOSÉ! IT'S SUPER. I'M JUST CHECKING IN TO FIND OUT WHEN YOU'LL BE ARRIVING.

[Engine humming]

José drives a tour bus on an empty road past colourful Fall leaves on trees. José, a rooster, drives the van. Luna, a blue penguin, sits beside him and holds a tablet. Enrique, an ostrich wearing a top hat, sits in the backseat.

José says, HEY, SUPER. WE'RE JUST HEADING INTO THE WOODSY WOODS NOW, SO WE SHOULD BE AT THE TREEBORHOOD BEFORE DARK. WE CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY OUR MUSIC FOR EVERYONE AT THE PARRANDA.

Super says, TERRIFIC! SEE YOU SOON.

José says, SEE YOU SOON!

[Horn honking]

[Salsa music plays]

In his house, Sammy says, I CAN'T BELIEVE THE FLAPPING FEATHERS ARE GOING TO BE HERE IN THE TREEBORHOOD!

Louisa says, I KNOW! THAT'S WHY I MADE YOU A BIG OLD SURPRISE. CHECK THIS OUT!

[Whooshing, wheels rattling, slide whistle, paper rustling]

Louisa’s wagon has a cardboard box that resembles the Flapping Feathers’ tour bus. She throws a piece of paper to Sammy. He unrolls the paper and reveals a drawing of the tour bus.

Sammy says, COOL! YOUR WAGON LOOKS JUST LIKE THE FLAPPING FEATHERS' TOUR BUS! IT'S AMAZING!

[Rustling, slide whistle]

Sammy throws the paper into the box.

Louisa says, I THOUGHT YOU COULD RIDE IN IT WHEN WE GO FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE, SINGING AND EATING. HOP IN!

[Slide whistle, samba music plays]

Sammy flips into the box.

Sammy says, THANKS, LOUISA! LET'S PARRANDA!

Louisa pulls the wagon. On the ground, Mr. E. peers through binoculars. Super squints beside him.

Mr. E. asks, WHERE ARE THEY?

Super looks through the binoculars at Louisa, pulling Sammy in the wagon.

Super says, OH! THEIR WAGON LOOKS JUST LIKE THE BUS THE FLAPPING FEATHERS HAVE.

[Whooshing, slide whistle]

Mr. E. removes his shirt, revealing a second shirt with a winged microphone on the front.

Sammy and Louisa say, WHOA!

[Whooshing]

Mr. E. sits on the cardboard wagon.

Mr. E. says, DID YOU NOT KNOW? JOSÉ'S FAVOURITE COLOUR IS RED, ENRIQUE'S FAVOURITE FOOD IS RICE AND BEANS, AND LUNA'S FAVOURITE DAY IS MONDAY!

[Thumping, Sammy laughing]

Mr. E. falls to the ground and gives a thumbs-up.

Sammy says, IT'S GETTING LATE. THE FLAPPING FEATHERS SHOULD'VE BEEN HERE BY NOW.

Super says, I'LL GIVE THEM A CALL AND SEE WHERE THEY ARE.

[Tablet ringing, buzzing, upbeat music plays]

In the tour bus, Luna takes out the tablet.

Super says, HEY, FLAPPING FEATHERS. HOW LONG UNTIL YOU GET TO THE TREEBORHOOD?

José says, UH...

[Chuckling]

José says, WE WE'RE ACTUALLY A LITTLE BIT LOST.

[Map rustling]

Enrique turns a map.

Enrique says, UH, I THINK IT'S...THAT WAY!

[Tires screeching, gasping]

Enrique points, and José turns onto a side road.

Luna says, LOOK OUT FOR THOSE SHARP...

[Bus rumbling, grunting, tires hissing]

Luna continues, ROCKS.

[Solemn music plays]

Super says, OW.

Luna says, FOUR FLAT TIRES. WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO, SUPER? WE'LL NEVER MAKE IT IN TIME FOR THE PARRANDA.

Super says, STAY PUT. I'M ON MY WAY.

[Whooshing, slide whistle, upbeat music plays]

Super boards a hot air balloon.

Super says, THE FLAPPING FEATHERS HAVE FOUR FLAT TIRES AND THEY NEED MY HELP. BUT DON'T WORRY, EVERYONE, I'LL BRING THE FLAPPING FEATHERS BACK IN NO TIME.

[Sad music plays]

Mr. E. says, OH, NO. THIS COULD TAKE A WHILE. GUESS I'LL GO BACK TO WORK.

[Slide whistle]

Sammy asks, WHAT IF THEY DON'T MAKE IT HERE IN TIME? HOW WILL WE DO A PARRANDA WITHOUT MUSIC?

Louisa says, UNLESS...UNLESS WE MAKE OUR OWN PARRANDA BAND AND PLAY OUR OWN MUSIC.

Sammy says, BUT WE DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO MAKE A BAND.

[Slide whistle, clattering]

Sammy’s device falls to the ground.

Louisa says, I DO! MY MAMAS WERE IN A BAND A LONG TIME AGO, THE TWO ROOS. ALL WE NEED TO MAKE A BAND ARE INSTRUMENTS AND SOMEONE TO PLAY THEM.

[Slide whistle]

Louisa shows Sammy a photograph of her moms in the band. Sammy takes the device. Sammy scrolls to a picture of the Flapping Feathers and their instruments.

Sammy says, IF WE WANT TO SOUND LIKE THE FLAPPING FEATHERS, THEN WE NEED THE THREE INSTRUMENTS THEY PLAY. THESE ARE BONGOS.

[Bongo drum music plays]

Sammy says, THIS IS A GUIRO.

[Guiro scraping]

Sammy says, AND THESE ARE CASTANETS.

[Castanets clicking]

Louisa says, MY MAMA HAS TONS OF INSTRUMENTS IN THE CREATION STATION MUSIC ROOM. LET'S SEE IF WE CAN FIND THE ONES WE NEED.

[Salsa music plays, wheels rattling]

Sammy leaps into the box, and Louisa pulls the wagon.

Sammy says, TO THE CREATION STATION MUSIC ROOM!

In the Creation Station Music Room, Sammy and Louisa look at instruments displayed on the wall.

Louisa says, SEE? THERE'S LOTS OF INSTRUMENTS IN HERE.

Sammy says, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN FIND CASTANETS FIRST. NO.

Louisa says, NUHUH.

Sammy says, THAT'S NOT IT.

Louisa says, AWW, THERE'S NO CASTANETS IN HERE.

[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]

Sammy holds up his device with the picture of the guiro.

Sammy says, LET'S LOOK FOR A GUIRO. AWW, THERE'S NO GUIRO HERE EITHER.

Louisa says, BONGOS. THERE HAVE TO BE BONGOS IN HERE.

[Slide whistle]

Louisa compares the picture of the bongos to the instruments on the wall.

Louisa says, UHUH. NO. WHAT KIND OF MUSIC ROOM IS THIS? IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY OF THE INSTRUMENTS WE NEED.

Sammy says, WE CAN'T MAKE A BAND UNLESS WE HAVE THE INSTRUMENTS THE FLAPPING FEATHERS PLAY.

Louisa says, HEY! WE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO FIND THE INSTRUMENTS WE NEED, BUT MAYBE WE CAN MAKE THEM? LIKE THESE TISSUE BOX GUITARS.

Sammy says, THAT IS A GREAT IDEA, LOUISA.

[Upbeat music plays]

In the hot air balloon basket, Super peers through the binoculars.

On her tablet, Super asks, WHERE ARE YOU, FLAPPING FEATHERS?

On her tablet, Luna replies, UH, I'M NOT SURE. WE CAN'T READ THE MAP.

On her tablet, Super asks, HOW ABOUT YOU PLAY SOME MUSIC AND I'LL FOLLOW THE SOUND?

[Whooshing, rhythmic music plays]

The Flapping Feathers grab their instruments and play.

[Super gasping]

On her tablet, Super says, I HEAR YOU. I'LL BE RIGHT THERE.

[Slide whistle]

Super pilots the hot air balloon.

[Scraping]

In the Creation Station, Louisa pushes a box of scraps and art supplies towards a table. Sammy looks at the pictures of the Flapping Feathers’ instruments.

Sammy says, THE INSTRUMENTS WE MAKE HAVE TO SOUND LIKE THE FLAPPING FEATHERS' INSTRUMENTS.

[Bongos playing]

Sammy says, THE BONGO HAS A LOW AND ECHOEY SOUND.
Louisa says, MAYBE IF WE FIND SOMETHING THAT'S SHAPED LIKE A BONGO, IT MIGHT SOUND LIKE A BONGO. IT'S ROUND, AND IT HAS A TOP THAT'S THE SHAPE OF A CIRCLE.

[Slide whistles, rustling, can clanking]

Louisa picks up a top hat, a bowl, and a paint can.

Louisa says, LET'S TEST OUT THE PAINT CAN FIRST. PLAY THE BONGO SOUND.

[Bongos playing, can clanking]

Louisa hits the top of the can.

Louisa says, THE PAINT CAN SOUNDS TOO HIGH AND NOT ECHOEY AT ALL. LET'S TEST OUT THE HAT.

[Thudding]

Louisa hits the top of the hat.

Sammy says, IT'S KIND OF ECHOEY, BUT IT'S NOT MAKING MUCH OF A SOUND.

Louisa puts on the top hat.

Louisa says, LET'S TEST OUT THIS BOWL.

[Slapping]

She hits the bowl.

Sammy says, IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE BONGO.

Louisa says, BUT THE BONGO SOUNDS ECHOEYER. I WONDER WHY? OH, THE BONGOS HAVE SOMETHING COVERING THE TOP.

[Slide whistle, rustling, upbeat music quietly plays]

Louisa stretches a knit beanie across the top of the bowl, and the beanie sags.

Sammy says, LET'S USE THIS HAT TO COVER THE TOP OF THE BOWL. HM, THE HAT IS REALLY SAGGY.

Louisa says, HMM... THE TOP OF THE BONGO IS TIGHT. LET'S LOOK FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL BE TIGHTER ON THE BOWL.

[Sammy gasping, squeaking, rustling, slide whistle]

Sammy jumps into the supply box. He surfaces holding deflated balloons.

Sammy asks, WHAT ABOUT THESE BALLOONS?

[Snipping, balloon creaking]

Louisa cuts the end off a balloon. She and Sammy stretch it over the top of the bowl.

Sammy says, ALMOST... GOT IT!

[Snapping]

Louisa says, WE DID IT! SEE HOW IT SOUNDS.

[Tapping, bongos playing]

Sammy taps the bowl and then turns on his device.

Louisa says, WHOA! THE BOWL SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE FLAPPING FEATHERS' BONGOS. WAIT. WE NEED TO MAKE A SECOND ONE, SO IT MATCHES THIS PICTURE.

[Tape ripping, Louisa tapping bowls]

Louisa tapes two bowls together and then taps them.

Louisa says, THEY SOUND PERFECT. WHAT'S NEXT?

Sammy says, THE GUIRO.

Sammy shows the picture of the guiro.

[Guiro scratching rhythmically]

Sammy says, IT SOUNDS SCRATCHY.

Louisa says, WELL, WHEN LUNA PLAYS IT, SHE RUBS A STICK ACROSS THAT LONG ROUND THING.

Sammy says, THAT LONG ROUND THING KIND OF LOOKS LIKE A SQUASH.

[Slide whistle]

Sammy puts his device under his ball cap.

Louisa says, KAT AND KIT JUST PICKED A BUNCH OF SQUASH IN THE SOW 'N' GROW GARDEN.

[Slide whistle, salsa music plays, wheels rattling]

Sammy jumps into the wagon, and Louisa pulls it.

Sammy says, TO THE SOW 'N' GROW GARDEN!

At the Sow ‘N Grow Garden, Louisa and Sammy walk to a basket of squash.

Louisa says, WE NEED A SQUASH THAT MATCHES THE SHAPE OF A GUIRO. HM...THAT ONE.

[Slide whistle]

Louisa picks up a squash, and Sammy compares it to the guiro on his device screen.

Sammy says, HEY, THIS SQUASH LOOKS JUST LIKE THE GUIRO.

[Guiro scratching rhythmically, stick rubbing]

Sammy rubs a stick on the side of the squash.

Louisa says, AWW, THE SQUASH SOUNDS TOO SMOOTH. HMM...

[Gasping]

Louisa says, THESE CANS HAVE RIDGES ON THEM.

[Scratching rhythmically]

Louisa rubs the stick on the side of a ridged can.

Sammy says, YES! THAT SOUNDS JUST LIKE A GUIRO. ONLY ONE INSTRUMENT LEFT TO MAKE, THE CASTANETS.

[Castanets clicking, upbeat music notes play]

Louisa says, THEY MAKE A CLICKY-CLACKY SOUND.

Sammy says, MAYBE MR. E. HAS SOMETHING THAT CLICKS AND CLACKS IN THE EVERYTHING EMPORIUM.

Louisa says, HE SHOULD, IT'S CALLED THE "EVERYTHING" EMPORIUM.

[Slide whistle, salsa music plays]

Sammy jumps into the box on the wagon.

Sammy says, TO THE EVERYTHING EMPORIUM!

[Latin music plays faintly]

In the hot air balloon basket, Super peers through her binoculars. She finds the Flapping Feathers sitting on the ground beside their tour bus, unenthusiastically playing their instruments.

Super cheers, HOORAY, I FOUND THEM! HEY, FLAPPING FEATHERS!

[Gasping, music stops]

The Flapping Feathers stand up.

The band says, HEY!

[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]

Super lands the hot air balloon.

Super says, YOU'VE GOT FOUR FLATS, ALL RIGHT.

[Gadget whirring, slide whistles, pumping air]

Super patches and inflates the tires.

Super says, DONE! YOUR BUS IS READY TO RIDE.

Luna says, LET'S HURRY TO THE TREEBORHOOD FOR THE PARRANDA.

Super says, FOLLOW MY HOT AIR BALLOON!

[Slide whistle, engine rumbling, upbeat music plays]

Super cartwheels into the basket, and the hot air balloon rises. The band drives in their tour bus.

Super, with her voice fading, says, MEET YOU THERE!

In the Everything Emporium, Sammy and Louisa walk to the counter.

Sammy says, WE’RE MAKING INSTRUMENTS FOR OUR OWN BAND.

Louisa asks, WHERE CAN WE FIND THINGS THAT GO CLICKYC-LACKY, LIKE CASTANETS DO?

[Castanets clicking]

Sammy holds up his device.

Mr. E. says, IN THE "THINGS THAT GO CLICKY-CLACKY" AISLE THAT ZEKE ORGANIZED, OF COURSE.

Sammy says, THIS IS WHAT THE CASTANETS SOUND LIKE.

[Castanets clicking]

[Timer ticking, ringing, children yelping]

Louisa starts a timer, and she and Sammy jump when it rings.

Sammy says, CASTANETS DO NOT HAVE A BELL SOUND.

[Typing]

Louisa types on a keyboard.

Louisa says, THE KEYBOARD SOUNDS LIKE "TICK, TICK, TICK," NOT CLICKY-CLACKY, LIKE THE CASTANETS.

[Slide whistle, shoes clacking]

Louisa jumps into tap shoes and walks.

Sammy says, THE TAP SHOES SOUND CLICKY-CLACKY, JUST LIKE THE CASTANETS.

[Shoes clicking, clacking]

Louisa walks in a circle around Sammy.

Louisa says, WE HAVE ALL THE INSTRUMENTS WE NEED TO SOUND LIKE THE FLAPPING FEATHERS!

Sammy says, WAIT! WE HAVE ONE, TWO, THREE INSTRUMENTS, BUT ONLY ONE, TWO BAND MEMBERS. WE NEED ONE MORE BAND MEMBER.

[Slide whistle, rapid clicking, clacking, happy music notes play]

Mr. E. dances wearing tap shoes.

Mr. E. says, YES, YES, YES! I WOULD LOVE TO JOIN YOUR BAND!

Louisa says, NOW, LET'S GO. WE HAVE A PARRANDA TO START.

[Slide whistle, rapid clicking, clacking]

Louisa throws her tap shoes into a box. Day turns into night and the lights around the Treeborhood glow. Super and the Flapping Feathers arrive at the Treeborhood.

[Engine rumbling, salsa music plays]

Mr. E. dances, Sammy plays the bongo bowls, and Louisa scrapes the side of the can.

Mr. E. sings, DE CASA, EN CASA, CON AMIGOS A GOZAR.

Super, José, Enrique, and Luna arrive.

Enrique says, HEY, COOL INSTRUMENTS. THEY SOUND JUST LIKE OURS.

Sammy says, WE WEREN'T SURE YOU WOULD MAKE IT IN TIME FOR THE PARRANDA, SO WE MADE OUR OWN BAND. WANNA JOIN US?

Super says, LET THE PARRANDA BEGIN. EVERYONE JOIN IN WITH THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS, AND WE'LL GO FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE.

[Salsa music plays]

The Flapping Feathers, Super, Sammy, Mr. E., and Louisa eat snacks with Zadie, Malik, and Zeke.

The Flapping Feathers sing, DE CASA, EN CASA, A COMER Y A BAILAR. DE CASA, EN CASA, CON AMIGOS A GOZAR.

José says, ESO! HA HA HA! ASI SE GOZA!

The Flapping Feathers, Super, Sammy, Mr. E., and Louisa visit Leiko and Duffy, and eat noodles.

The Flapping Feathers sing, DE CASA, EN CASA, A COMER Y A BAILAR. DE CASA, EN CASA, CON AMIGOS A GOZAR.

José says, ESO! HA HA HA! ASI SE GOZA!

The Flapping Feathers sing, DE CASA, EN CASA, VAMOS A PARRANDIAR.

[Salsa music plays, shoes clicking, clacking]

Mr. E. dances behind a microphone.

Mr. E. sings, DE CASA, EN CASA, VAMOS A PARRANDIAR!

[Music stops]

In a dance studio, Ellie, Malik, Zadie, and Zeke dance. Zadie and Zeke imitate Ellie’s moves, and Malik dances out of rhythm.

[Upbeat music plays]

Malik sings, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE LEARNING SOMETHING NEW AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START? NO, YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Ellie sings, TRY BREAKING IT DOWN.

Zadie and Zeke sing, TRY BREAKING IT DOWN.

Ellie sings, INTO SMALLER PARTS.

Zadie and Zeke sing, INTO SMALLER PARTS.

Ellie, Zadie and Zeke sing, ONE PART AT A TIME.

Ellie says, OKAY, FOLLOW ME. LISTEN CLOSE.

[Boinging]

Ellie steps to the side, hops, and shakes her hips.

Ellie sings, IT'S JUST A STEP, A HOP, AND A SHAKE ALL AROUND. A STEP, A HOP, AND A SHAKE ALL AROUND.

Ellie says, TRY BREAKING IT DOWN.

Zadie and Zeke sing, TRY BREAKING IT DOWN.

Ellie says, INTO SMALLER PARTS.

Zadie and Zeke sing, INTO SMALLER PARTS.

Ellie, Zadie and Zeke sing, ONE PART AT A TIME.

[Ellie laughing, boinging]

Malik imitates Ellie’s dance.

Ellie sings, A STEP, A HOP, AND A SHAKE ALL AROUND. A STEP, A HOP AND A SHAKE ALL AROUND.

Ellie, Zadie and Zeke sing, A STEP, A HOP, AND A SHAKE ALL AROUND!

[Boinging, upbeat music plays]

Malik dances.

Malik sings, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE LEARNING SOMETHING NEW AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START? NO, YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Ellie sings, TRY BREAKING IT DOWN.

Malik, Zadie and Zeke sing, TRY BREAKING IT DOWN.

Ellie sings, INTO SMALLER PARTS.

Everyone sings, INTO SMALLER PARTS.

[Hands slapping]

Ellie and Malik high-five.

Everyone sings, ONE PART AT A TIME.

[Boinging]

The children dance.

Malik, Zadie and Zeke sing, A STEP, A HOP, AND A SHAKE ALL AROUND. WE BROKE THIS DANCE...

Everyone sings, DOWN!

[Ellie laughing]

Ellie says, THAT WAS GREAT!

Episode title: Happy New Acorn Year.

The wombat children march and play instruments. Zeke plays a drum, and Malik plays a trumpet. Zadie wears a bass drum, bells, and a tambourine on her back and carries a guitar.

Text reads, “Written by Michael Olmo. Directed by Jeff Barker, Andrea Gerstmann.”

[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]

At night, at the top of the Treeborhood, a giant acorn on top of a pole shimmers. Ellie throws a handful of confetti in the air. Duffy and Leiko tie ribbons on a rope.

Ellie cheers, YIPPEE!

[Balloon popping, Amado and Gabriella laughing, slide whistles]

Amado blows into a balloon, and it pops. Ellie throws confetti over Super.

Ellie says, I LOVE NEW YEAR'S EVE! IT'S SO FESTIVE. AND WHEN WE DROP THE GIANT ACORN AT MIDNIGHT? OH! DELIGHT-LIGHT-LIGHTFUL!

[Whooshing, sad music plays]

Super looks up at the window of the wombat house where Malik, Zeke, and Zadie watch sadly.

Super says, UH OH. ZEKE, MALIK, AND ZADIE'S FACES HAVE GONE FROM GLOOMY TO DOWNRIGHT HEARTBREAKING. I BETTER GO TELL THEM THE GOOD NEWS.

[Banging]

The wombat children walk away from their window. Zeke and Zadie sit on the carpet. Malik hits a block with a mallet.

Malik says, I CALL THE WOMBAT KID COMMITTEE TO ORDER. TODAY'S BUSINESS IS HOW MUCH THIS STINKS.

[Paper rustling]

Malik holds a drawing of the acorn at the top of the Treeborhood.

Malik says, BECAUSE THE NEW YEAR'S EVE CELEBRATION HAPPENS AT MIDNIGHT, WE NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER GET TO SEE IT. AND WHY?

Zeke and Zadie say, IT'S PAST OUR BEDTIME.

[Paper rustling]

Malik puts the paper away.

Malik says, WELL, I SAY MAKE OUR BEDTIME LATER, JUST FOR NEW YEAR'S EVE, SO WE CAN SEE THE ACORN DROP.

Zeke says, YEAH, THIS STINKS. TWO QUESTIONS. WHAT IS NEW YEAR'S EVE? AND WHAT IS AN ACORN DROP?

Malik points to a calendar.

Malik says, TODAY IS NEW YEAR'S EVE. IT'S THE LAST DAY OF THE YEAR.

[Zeke gasping, dramatic music plays]

Zeke says, NO MORE DAYS? EVER?

[Malik laughing]

Malik says, NO, ZEKE, THERE WILL BE MORE DAYS. IT'S JUST THE LAST DAY OF THIS YEAR.

[Calendar rustling, upbeat music plays]

Malik takes the calendar off the wall, and Zadie puts up a new one.

Zadie says, AT MIDNIGHT, THE NEW YEAR BEGINS AND THE OLD YEAR ENDS. AND WE HAVE A WHOLE NEW BUNCH OF DAYS TO FILL WITH FUN.

[Banging]

Malik bangs his mallet on the box.

Malik says, AND ON NEW YEAR'S EVE, WHICH IS TONIGHT, ALL THE GROWNUPS STAY UP UNTIL MIDNIGHT AND WATCH THE BIG ACORN DROP FROM THE TIPPITY-TOP OF THE TREEBORHOOD.

Zadie says, AND THEN THEY YELL, "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" AND HAVE ALL KINDS OF FUN. WHILE WE, THE KIDS, HAVE TO BE IN BED AND MISS EVERYTHING.

The children furrow their brows and cross their arms.

Over a speaker, Super says, MALIK, ZADIE, ZEKE, PLEASE COME HERE FOR A SECOND.

In the living room, the children walk towards Super, their arms crossed.

Zadie says, WE KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO SAY, SUPER.

[Sighing]

Zadie says, "IT'S LATE, GET READY FOR…"

[Upbeat music plays]

Super says, A PARTY! WOO HOO!

Zeke says, HUH? I THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO SAY, "GET READY FOR BED." DIDN'T YOU, SNOUT?

[Slide whistle]

Zeke nods Snout’s head.

Super says, NOT THIS YEAR. SINCE NEW YEAR'S EVE IS A SUPER SPECIAL NIGHT, AND ONLY HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR, WE SHOULD LET THE KIDS STAY UP UNTIL MIDNIGHT TO WATCH THE ACORN DROP.

The children say, YES!

[Gentle music plays]

Super holds a photograph of the Fishman babies.

Super says, EXCEPT THE FISHMAN BABIES, OF COURSE. THEY'RE STILL BABIES. GOOTCHIE, GOOTCHIE, CUTE!

Malik says, THIS IS EPIC!

Zeke says, I WONDER IF LOUISA IS AS EXCITED AS I AM?

Super says, I THINK SHE'S PROBABLY NAPPING.

Zeke says, WHAT?

Zadie says, NAPPING?

Malik asks, WHY?

Super says, LEIKO IS HOLDING A NAPATHON FOR ALL THE KIDS WHO WANT TO STAY UP. SHE FIGURES A NAP NOW MIGHT HELP KIDS STAY AWAKE LATER. MAYBE YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT JOINING THEM?

Zadie says, NAP? US? NUHUH.

Malik says, WE DON'T NEED NAPS. WE GOT THIS.

Super crosses her arms and arches her eyebrow.

At the Creation Station, the crab children, Sammy, Louisa, and JunJun lie in sleeping bags.

Louisa says, LET'S NAP IT UP, MY FRIENDS.

Duffy says, GOODNIGHT, EVERYONE.

[Clicking, Louisa sighing], slide whistle, gentle music plays, boinging]

Duffy turns off the light and hops out of the room. Louisa imagines Zeke carrying Snout and jumping over a fence.

Louisa says, ONE ZEKE AND SNOUT, TWO ZEKE AND SNOUT, THREE ZEKE AND

Sammy asks, LOUISA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Louisa says, I ALWAYS COUNT ZEKE AND SNOUT JUMPING OVER A FENCE TO FALL ASLEEP.

Sammy says, OKAY, BUT CAN YOU WHISPER?

Louisa says, SURE.

Louisa loudly whispers, FOUR ZEKE AND SNOUT, FIVE ZEKE AND SNOUT, SIX ZEKE AND SNOUT...

[Rustling]

Sammy puts his pillow over his head and glares at Louisa. At the wombat house, Malik, Zeke, and Zadie sit in their bedroom. Malik reads a book while the other two sit with their chins on their hands and their elbows on their knees.

[Zeke yawning]

Malik says, YOU CAN'T BE SLEEPY. WE HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED STAYING AWAKE YET.

[Thumping]

Malik puts his book down.

Zeke says, TELL THAT TO MY FACE. IT KEEPS...

[Yawning]

Malik says, WE NEED A PLAN TO STAY AWAKE. THE ACORN DROP IS AT MIDNIGHT, WHICH IS FIVE HOURS FROM NOW.

Zadie says, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WAIT. FIVE HOURS?

[Upbeat music plays]

Zeke says, OKAY, WE NEED A PLAN. SOMETHING FUN TO PLAY THAT WILL KEEP US FROM FALLING ASLEEP. HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE OUR EYES STAY OPEN? HM...

[Gasping]

Zeke says, WE NEED AN OPEN EYEBALL GAME.

Zadie says, ZEKE, THAT'S IT! WE CAN DO A STARING CONTEST.

Malik says, GREAT PLAN.

[Slide whistles, boinging]

Malik throws pillows to Zeke and Zadie, and they sit on them.

Malik says, A STARING CONTEST WILL KEEP OUR EYES OPEN FOR SURE.

Zadie says, REMEMBER HOW TO PLAY, ZEKE? YOU AND I STARE AT MALIK WITHOUT BLINKING. AND HE STARES BACK AT US WITHOUT BLINKING. AND THE FIRST ONE WHO BLINKS LOSES.

[Ticking, all yawning, grunting, slide whistle, thumping]

They stare at each other, and their eyes start twitching. The children fall backward onto their backs and then quickly roll onto their pillows.

Zeke says, THAT STARING CONTEST MADE MY EYES FEEL EVEN HEAVIER. PHEW!

[Upbeat music plays]

Malik says, WE NEED TO WORK THIS OUT. THE ONE TIME WE GET TO STAY UP PAST OUR BEDTIME, AND WE KEEP FALLING ASLEEP.

Zeke says, WE DON'T WANNA FALL ASLEEP, OUR EYEBALLS WANNA.

Zadie lies beneath a blanket on top of two pillows.

Zadie says, AND THE ROOM FEELS SO WARM AND COZY, WITH MY BLANKET AND THESE PILLOWS. IT MAKES ME JUST WANNA...

[Sighing contentedly]

Zadie shuts her eyes.

[Malik clapping]

Malik shouts, WAKE UP!

Zadie says, WHOA! MAYBE IF I WEREN'T SO WARM AND COZY, THEN I WOULDN'T BE SLEEPY.

Malik says, WHAT'S THE OPPOSITE OF WARM AND COZY?

[Ticking]

Zadie says, MM, COLD AND WET?

Zeke says, THAT'S IT!

[Whooshing, creaking, clattering, rustling, slamming, thumping, ice clattering]

Zeke rolls to the kitchen and retrieves three large bowls, ice cube trays, and a jug of water. He brings everything back to the bedroom and puts ice in the bowls.

Zeke says, I HAVE A PLAN. WE CAN STICK OUR FEET IN ICE WATER. YOU CAN'T FEEL WARM AND COZY, IF YOU HAVE WET AND COLD FEET.

[Splashing, slide whistle]

Everyone steps into a bowl of water and ice.

Zadie and Malik say, COLD, COLD, COLD!

Malik says, IT'S WOR-WOR-WORKING. I'M NOT SLEEEPY.

Zeke says, HA! WHO NEEDS A N-NAP? NOT US.

[Shivering]

Malik and Zadie shake their heads.

[Upbeat music plays]

In the Creation Station, Louisa says, 207 ZEKE AND SNOUT. HEY, IS ANYONE ASLEEP AROUND HERE?

Everyone holds pillows over their heads and glares at Louisa.

JunJun asks, HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY SLEEP WITH ALL YOUR LOUD COUNTING?

Louisa says, OH, SORRY. I DIDN'T KNOW MY COUNTING WOULD KEEP YOU UP.

Sammy rolls his eyes.

Louisa says, I'LL NAME COLOURS INSTEAD.

Louisa loudly whispers, YELLOW, RED, BLUE...

[Wombat children grunting, upbeat music quietly plays]

Zadie, Malik, and Zeke stand shivering in their bowls.

Zadie says, I'M AWAKE, BUT FR-FR-FREEZING.

[Shivering]

Malik says, D-D-DON'T WORRY; IT'S ONLY T-T-THREE HOURS UNTIL MIDNIGHT.

Zeke says, I'LL BBE A P-POPSCICLE BY T-THEN. M-M-MAYBE WE COULD PUT ON WARM C-C-CLOTHES?

[Shivering, thumping]

Everyone nods, and they dive into their closet. They emerge wearing hats, scarves, jackets, and boots.

Malik says, AHH, MUCH BETTER. I'M NOT COLD AT ALL NOW.

Zeke says, YEAH.

[Sighing, gentle music plays]

Zeke lies down on the carpet.

Zeke says, SITTING HERE IN THESE WARM CLOTHES MAKE ME FEEL ALL COZY INSIDE.

Zadie says, I FEEL SO WARM AND RELAXED AND...

[Snoring]

Zadie and Zeke sleep on the floor.

Malik says, NOT AGAIN. WAKE UP!

[Clapping]

Zadie and Zeke awaken and stand up.

Zadie shouts, AH!

Malik says, WE NEED TO WORK THIS OUT AND FIND A WAY TO STAY AWAKE, OR WE'LL MISS THE ACORN DROP.

[Whooshing]

Zeke thinks of the bowls of ice.

Zeke says, THE ICE WORKED, BUT WE GOT TOO COLD.

Zadie says, AND THE WARM CLOTHES MADE US WARMER. BUT BEING RELAXED AND COZY MADE US SLEEPY. HOW DO WE FIX THIS?

Malik says, HMM...WHAT IF WE DO THE OPPOSITE OF SITTING STILL IN WARM CLOTHES?

[Slide whistles, upbeat music plays]

They take off their hats, jackets, scarves, and boots.

Malik says, FIRST, TAKE OFF OUR WARM CLOTHES.

Zadie says, THEN, SECOND, WE DO THE OPPOSITE OF SITTING STILL. WE DANCE! YOU CAN'T SLEEP AND DANCE AT THE SAME TIME.

[Radio tuning, disco music plays]

Zadie turns on the radio, and everyone dances. A disco ball spins over their heads.

[Lullaby music plays]

Everyone dances slowly.

Malik says, UH OH, THE SONG CHANGED! IT'S SLOWER NOW, MUCH SLOWER.

Zadie says, THAT'S OKAY, JUST KEEP DANCING IN TIME WITH THE MUSIC.

Zeke says, I LIKE DANCING TO THIS SONG, BUT...

[Yawning]

Zeke continues, IT'S MAKING MY BODY SLOW DOWN.

[Yawning]

Zadie says, MY LEGS FEEL LIKE WOBBLY NOODLES. MY EYELIDS ARE HEAVY AND...

[Snoring]

Malik and Zeke sleep on the floor.

Zadie says, AND MUST TURN OFF RADIO. CAN'T GO TO SLEEP. NOODLE LEGS DON'T FAIL ME.

[Grunting, thumping]

Zadie falls onto the floor.

Zadie says, LEGS, YOU FAILED ME. MUST... TURN... OFF... RADIO.

[Clicking, music stops]

Zadie crawls up to the radio and turns it off. She runs back to Malik and Zeke.

Zadie shouts, WAKE UP!

[Dinging]

Malik and Zeke say, AAH!

Malik says, DANCING DIDN'T WORK. WELL, I MEAN, IT DID, UNTIL THE RADIO PLAYED A SLOW, SLEEPY SONG. HOW DO WE FIX THIS?

[Upbeat music plays]

Zeke says, I WISH WE HAD A LOUD AND NOISY SONG THAT WOULD NEVER, EVER LET US SLEEP.

Zadie says, I HAVE A PLAN!

[Instruments playing]

Zadie wears a one-man band ensemble with a bass drum, bells, trampoline, and a xylophone. She plays her guitar.

Malik says, OH YEAH, WE CAN MAKE OUR OWN LOUD MUSIC.

[Whooshing, cacophonous music blaring)

Malik grabs his trumpet, and Zeke grabs his drum. Everyone plays their instruments.

Zadie says, WAIT, WHAT IF WE WENT OUTSIDE TO MAKE THE MUSIC, WHERE IT'S COLDER? THAT WAY WE WON'T BE WARM AND COZY AND FALL ASLEEP.

Malik says, LOUD MUSIC AND COLD AIR SHOULD KEEP US AWAKE FOR SURE. LET'S GO!

[Cacophonous music blaring, door opening]

The children march outside with their instruments. Super watches them and smiles. Amado dances to the music.

Zadie sings, WE ARE WIDE AWAKE AND HOW! NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW. WE ARE WIDE AWAKE AND HOW! NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW.

Malik says, WE'RE STAYING AWAKE. WE WORKED IT OUT!

[Cacophonous music blaring, snoring]

The wombat children stop beside the Fishman house.

[Music stops]

Felicia says, ZADIE, MALIK, ZEKE! SHH! IT'S NEARLY ELEVEN-THIRTY! IT'S LATE! YOUR LOUD MUSIC IS GOING TO WAKE THE BABIES.

Zadie says, SORRY ABOUT THAT.

Malik says, AND NOW, WE CAN'T PLAY LOUD MUSIC BECAUSE IT WILL WAKE THE BABIES. HOW DO WE FIX THIS?

Zeke says, IF ONLY THERE WAS SOMEPLACE WE COULD PLAY WHERE WE WOULDN'T BOTHER ANYONE.

[Upbeat music plays]

Zadie says, ZEKE, THAT IS A PLAN. WE CAN PLAY IN THE MUSIC ROOM AT THE CREATION STATION. IT'S SOUNDPROOF! COME ON!

In the Creation Station, Louisa whispers, TEAL GREEN, PUCE... INDIGO...

[Snoring, gentle music plays]

Louisa falls asleep.

Sammy whispers, FINALLY, SHE'S ASLEEP.

[Rustling]

The other children put their heads on their pillows and fall asleep. The door opens, and Malik, Zeke, and Zadie look into the darkened room.

Zadie says, SHH!

[Slide whistle, crashing, thumping]

Zadie trips on the edge of a carpet and falls on the floor. Sammy, JunJun, Clyde, Carly, and Cece look at her with narrowed eyes.

Zadie says, OOPS. SORRY ABOUT THAT. DID I, BY ANY CHANCE, WAKE YOU?

Sammy says, THAT’S OKAY, NONE OF US HAVE GOTTEN ANY SLEEP...EXCEPT... LOUISA.

[Louisa snoring]

Sammy asks, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

Malik says, WE'RE GOING TO TRY AND KEEP OURSELVES AWAKE BY PLAYING LOUD MUSIC IN THE SOUNDPROOF MUSIC ROOM.

JunJun says, CAN WE JOIN YOU? WE MIGHT AS WELL, SINCE WE CAN'T SEEM TO NAP.

[Cacophonous music blaring]

In the music room, the children play instruments and dance. Super opens the door.

Super says, IT'S TIME FOR THE ACORN DROP! WOO HOO!

[Happy music plays, boinging]

Malik jumps with his fist raised.

Malik says, WE DID IT, WE WORKED IT OUT! WE STAYED AWAKE!

[Cacophonous music blaring]

Super and the children march through the Creation Station. Louisa awakens.

Louisa says, OH. DID I FALL ASLEEP?

[Chattering, laughing, rock music plays]

The Treeborhood community gathers at the base of the tree. Duffy and JunJun play their guitars on a stage. Leiko plays the drums. Around them, people dance or stand in groups chatting.

Super says, IT’S NEARLY MIDNIGHT, AND AS IS OUR TRADITION, WE EACH SHARE OUR FAVOURITE THING WE DID THIS YEAR.

[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]

Zeke imagines dressing in a superhero mask and cape.

Zeke says, LIKE WHEN I BECAME MIGHTY ZEKE.

[Slide whistle]

Leiko imagines finding eyeglasses in a box.

Leiko says, AND WHEN I FOUND SUPER'S GLASSES IN THE PUZZLE BOX.

[Slide whistle]

Malik imagines eating pancakes.

Malik says, WHEN WE HAD BACKWARDS DAY AND HAD PANCAKES FOR DINNER.

[Malik giggling, slide whistle]

Zadie imagines flying on a rocket ship in space.

Zadie says, WHEN WE BUILT A ROCKET SHIP TO THE MOON.

[Gentle music plays]

Louisa says, AND DID YOU NOT KNOW MY FAVOURITE THING WAS STAYING UP AND WAITING FOR THE BIG, OLD ACORN DROP?

Super says, AND THIS IS IT, THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR. IT'S TIME FOR THE COUNTDOWN.

Louisa says, I GOT THIS, SUPER. TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO...

Everyone shouts, ONE! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

[Slide whistle, rustling, noisemakers blaring]

The giant acorn lowers on the pole, and confetti flies around it.

Super says, THE BEST PART OF THIS YEAR WAS HAVING YOU THREE SQUISHES IN MY LIFE.

[Snoring, laughing]

Zadie, Zeke, and Malik sleep on the grass beside the stage.

[Upbeat music plays]
