A staircase spirals around the tree trunk of the Treeborhood. Tiny houses are nestled in the tree. In the Wombat’s house, Malik, a blue-grey wombat; Zadie, a purple wombat; and Zeke, a yellow wombat, sleep in hammocks. They wake up, jump out of their hammocks, and high-five each other. Their grandmother, Super, a blue wombat with pink hair, pours milk and breakfast cereal into their bowls. Zeke holds his stuffed wombat, Snout. The children leave the house and slide across tree branches.

[Slide whistle, rhythmic music plays]

Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, WHEN THERE'S A PROBLEM, WHAT DO WE SAY? WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S ALWAYS WAY. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS.

Zadie sings, WE'VE GOT IDEAS FOR DAYS.

Malik sings, SOLVE PROBLEMS LOTS OF WAYS.

Zeke sings, I LOVE IT WHEN WE PLAY…

Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, ALL TOGETHER.

Ellie, an orange moose, jumps on a trampoline, and her blue hat flies off. In a hot air balloon basket, Malik catches the hat and returns it to Ellie.

[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays]

Zadie sings, HEY, I'M ZADIE; BRING ON THE PROBLEMS. TRY SOME DIFFERENT THINGS 'TIL WE SOLVE 'EM.

Zadie puts apples on a table. The apples fall, and Zadie and Mr. E, a green iguana with a black bowler hat, pick the apples up.

[Whooshing, slide whistle]

Malik sings, I'M MALIK, WE'LL WORK IT OUT, JUST WAIT. WE MAKE SOME PLANS, AND THEN WE BUILD AND CREATE.

Malik rides in a go-kart with his friend JunJun, a pink Philippine Eagle. They both wear helmets.

Zeke sings, I'M ZEKE, HERE'S SNOUT, WE LIKE TO EXPLORE.

Malik, Zadie, and Zeke sing, LET'S GO DO IT, ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR. HELP'S NEVER FAR AWAY, THAT'S FOR SURE. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. COME JOIN THE FUN, YOU READY? LET'S GO. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WORK IT OUT, WOMBATS. YEAH!

Title: Work It Out Wombats.

Episode title: The Treeborhood CAUSE-AND-EFFECT Machine.

[Cheerful music plays, dominoes clattering]

Zadie and Zeke watch Malik set up a row of three dominoes. He knocks them over.

Text reads, “Written by Alyson Pierkarsky. Directed by Jeff Barker, Andrea Gerstmann. Son by Ron Holsey.”

[Slide whistle, upbeat music plays, basket creaking]

By the Sow ‘N Grow Garden greenhouse, Super lands her hot balloon on the grass. Carly, Cece, Clyde, Kit, and Kat stand on the grass with Zeke, Malik, and Zadie. Super opens the basket.

Super says, ALL ABOARD! TOOT TOOT!

The Shelly family enters the basket.

Zadie says, THIS IS SO EXCITING! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE GOING TO BE ON EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE GAME SHOW!

[Game show music plays]

The wombat says, FAMILY FOOD!

[Slide whistles]

The Shelly family looks over the top of the basket.

Kit says, WE'RE SURE TO WIN. WE KNOW OUR FOOD FACTS!

Kat asks, DID YOU KNOW THE WORLD'S BIGGEST PUMPKIN WEIGHED 2,703 POUNDS?

[Slide whistle, gentle music plays, popping]

Zeke imagines a giant pumpkin, and it turns into a jack o’ lantern with Zeke’s face.

Zeke says, WHOA, THAT WOULD MAKE A REALLY BIG JACK O'LANTERN.

The Shelly family waves and flies away in the hot air balloon.

Super says, I'VE SET UP THE BIG SCREEN IN THE STARLIGHT ROOM FOR EVERYONE TO WATCH THE GAME SHOW TOGETHER.

Super says, TIME FOR MY SNACK BREAK. REMEMBER, THE GAME SHOW STARTS AT SUNSET, SO MAKE SURE TO GET TO THE STARLIGHT ROOM BY THEN. WOULDN'T WANT YOU TO MISS IT!

Zeke says, I SURE HOPE THE SHELLY FAMILY WINS THAT BIG PUMPKIN!

[Malik giggling, bright music plays]

Malik says, ZEKE, THAT'S JUST A FUN FACT ABOUT PUMPKINS. I DON'T THINK IT WILL BE THE PRIZE.

Zadie says, MAYBE THE PRIZE WILL BE ENOUGH POPCORN FOR THE WHOLE TREEBORHOOD.

[Phone buzzing]

Malik looks at his smartphone.

On the screen, Kit and Kat look into the camera.

[Kat gasping, gentle music plays]

Kat says, WE FORGOT SOMETHING IMPORTANT! OUR SUNBERRY BLOSSOM FLOWER NEEDS TO BE WATERED. IT'S RIGHT OVER THERE.

[Rustling]

The wombat children look at a large pink and yellow flower.

On the screen, Kit says, AND MAKE SURE YOU USE THE BLUE WATERING CAN IT'S THE PERFECT AMOUNT OF WATER FOR OUR FLOWER.

On the screen, Kat says, IT NEEDS TO BE WATERED RIGHT AT SUNSET. THANKS! OKAY, BYE.

[Slide whistle]

The call ends.

[Tense music plays]

Zadie says, SUNSET? SUNSET IS THE EXACT TIME THE SHELLYS ARE ON THE GAME SHOW!

Malik asks, HOW CAN WE WATCH THE GAME SHOW AND WATER THE FLOWER AT THE SAME TIME?

Zadie asks, HOW WILL WE KNOW IF THEY WIN ALL THAT POPCORN? LET'S SEE IF GRANDMA SUPER HAS SOME IDEAS.

In the wombat living room, Super sits on a couch reading a book. Books are lined up like dominoes across the floor. Zeke, Malik, and Zadie roll into the room.

Zeke says, WE'VE GOT A PROBLEM THIS BIG!

Super says, WELL, THERE'S NO PROBLEM TOAST CAN'T FIX. WATCH THIS.

[Dominoes clattering, slide whistle, thumping, slide whistle, toaster clicking, upbeat music plays]

Super knocks over dominoes on a table. The dominoes push a tennis ball over the edge of the table and down a ramp, knocking over the books. A pail, which is tied to the toaster handle, rests on the last few books. When the books fall, the pail drops and pulls the handle down.

Super says, THE DOMINOS TOPPLE OVER, CAUSING THE TENNIS BALL TO ROLL DOWN THE RAMP, THEN THE BALL BUMPS INTO THE BOOK, WHICH CAUSES THE NEXT BOOK TO FALL OVER. THE LAST BOOK CAUSES THE PAIL TO FALL AND PULL THE HANDLE DOWN.

Zeke says, AND NOW IT'S TOASTING THE BREAD!

[Dinging, whooshing, rustling]

The toast pops out of the toaster and lands in a basket. Super pulls on a rope, and the basket slides across a rope to her. She picks up a slice of toast.

Super says, AND THAT'S MY BRAND-NEW CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE. I CAN SIT HERE AND READ MY BOOK AND MAKE TOAST IN THE KITCHEN AT THE SAME TIME!

Malik says, MAKING TOAST AND READING A BOOK AT THE SAME TIME. THAT'S IT! KAT AND KIT NEED US TO WATER THEIR PLANT IN THE GARDEN AT SUNSET.

[Slide whistle]

Zeke says, BUT WE WANT TO WATCH FAMILY FOOD AT THE SAME TIME.

[Slide whistle]

Zadie says, SO, MAYBE WE COULD SET UP A CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE, LIKE YOURS!

[Upbeat music plays]

Malik says, IT WILL START IN THE STARLIGHT ROOM, SINCE THAT'S WHERE WE'LL BE WATCHING THE GAME SHOW.

[Rustling]

Malik uses a pointer to show the location of the Starlight Room on a map of the Treeborhood. Zadie points to the Sow ‘N Grow Garden on the ground.

Zadie says, AND END IN THE SOW AND GROW GARDEN, SINCE THAT'S WHERE THE FLOWER NEEDS TO BE WATERED.

Super says, WHOA, NELLY! THAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE I'VE EVER SEEN. JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE PARTS CONNECT AND THAT ONE PART CAUSES THE NEXT PART TO DO SOMETHING. LIKE WITH MY TOAST MACHINE, IN FACT, WHY DON'T YOU START WITH THE DOMINOS I USED?

[Slide whistle, toast crunching]

The children run away, and Super eats her toast.

[Chair scraping, boinging]

In the Starlight Room, Zadie sits on a chair by the dominoes.

Zadie says, IF I SIT HERE, THEN MY TOE CAN KNOCK OVER THE DOMINO AND CAUSE THE OTHER DOMINOS TO TOPPLE. SEE?

[Dominoes clattering]

Zadie knocks over the dominoes. Zeke picks up a basket of dominoes.

Zeke says, LET'S SET THEM UP AND TEST IT OUT.

Zadie says, OKAY, HERE IT GOES!

[Clattering]

Zadie kicks a domino, and it falls.

Zeke says, WELL, THAT WAS A BUST.

Malik says, I THINK WE CAN IMPROVE IT. SEE? IF THE DOMINOS ARE CLOSER TOGETHER, THE FIRST ONE WILL HIT THE SECOND ONE, CAUSING THE SECOND TO HIT THE NEXT ONE.

[Clattering]

Malik knocks over three dominoes.

Zeke says, LET'S SET THEM UP AND TEST IT OUT!

[Clattering]

Zadie kicks the first domino, and the row falls to the doorway. Zeke runs out on a deck and looks over a railing.

Zeke says, NOW WE NEED DOMINOS TO KNOCK INTO SOMETHING, TO CAUSE OTHER THINGS TO HAPPEN, UNTIL WE CAN CAUSE THE WATERING CAN TO WATER THE FLOWER.

[Popping, whooshing, balls thumping]

The watering can and flower glow. Malik juggles as he walks to Zeke.

Malik asks, HOW ABOUT IF THE DOMINOS HIT ONE OF THESE BALLS FROM QUIQUE'S JUGGLING CLASS?

[Slide whistle, knocking]

Malik drops a ball, and the other two bounce off his head.

Zadie says, YEAH, THE BALL COULD ROLL DOWN SOMETHING TOWARDS THE GARDEN.

Zeke says, LIKE A SLIDE? WHEE!

[Clattering]

Zeke slides through the dominoes.

[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle]

Zadie takes an empty paper towel tube off a pile and rolls a ball through it. Malik catches it.

Zadie says, THAT GIVES ME AN IDEA. COME ON!

[Tape rustling]

Zadie tapes the paper towel tubes together. The tubes lead from the end of the dominoes to the edge of the deck railing.

Zadie says, SEE, I MADE A SLIDE! NOW WE JUST NEED TO CONNECT IT TO THE DOMINOS.

Malik says, I HAVE AN IDEA!

[Clattering]

Malik makes a stack of dominoes at the end of the line. He puts the ball on top of the stack.

Malik explains, WHEN THE LAST DOMINO HITS THE BALL, IT WILL CAUSE THE BALL TO ROLL DOWN THE SLIDE AND OFF THE EDGE OF THE STARLIGHT ROOM, INTO...

Zeke shouts, ELLIE'S YARD!

In her yard, Elle jumps on her trampoline.

Zeke says, LET'S TEST IT AND SEE IF IT WORKS.

[Upbeat music plays, clattering, slide whistle, whooshing, bell dinging]

Zadie knocks over the dominoes, and the ball rolls into the tubes. It rolls out of the tubes and hits the bell at the top of Ellie’s house.

Zadie says, THE BALL HIT THE BELL ON ELLIE'S HOUSE, COME ON!

The children cheer, YEAH!

[Boinging]

In Ellie’s yard, she jumps on the trampoline. Zadie, Malik, and Zeke stand on the grass.

Zeke says, WE'RE BUILDING A CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE TO WATER A FLOWER IN THE SOW AND GROW FOR KAT AND KIT. AND YOU FOUND OUR BALL.

Ellie says, HOW FUN! YOUR BALL HIT THE BELL, THEN FELL IN MY HANDS. SO, WHAT COMES NEXT?

[Tense music plays]

Zadie says, WELL, WE NEED THAT BALL TO ROLL DOWN SOMETHING AND HIT SOMETHING ELSE, THAT CAUSES IT TO HIT SOMETHING ELSE, THAT WATERS THE FLOWER.

[Boinging, slide whistle]

Malik imagines a paper towel tube slide starting at Ellie’s yard and finishing at the Sow ‘N Grow Garden.

Malik says, MAYBE WE CAN MAKE A SLIDE OUT OF PAPER TOWEL TUBES THAT GOES FROM HERE TO THE SOW AND GROW.

Zeke points at a slide.

He asks, COULDN'T WE JUST USE THIS SLIDE?

Malik says, GREAT IDEA!

[Slide whistle, boinging, upbeat music plays]

Malik imagines the ball bouncing off Ellie’s trampoline and onto the slide.

He says, THEN THE BALL WOULD HIT THE TRAMPOLINE, BOUNCE INTO THE SLIDE, AND THEN ROLL DOWN.

Over a speaker, Super announces, THE FAMILY FOOD GAME SHOW WILL BE SCREENING IN THE STARLIGHT ROOM SOON.

[Malik gasping, tense music notes play]

Zadie says, WE'VE GOT TO TEST THIS OUT, AND FAST!

[Clattering, slide whistle, bell ringing, thudding, tense music plays]

In the Starlight Room, Zadie knocks over the dominoes, and the ball rolls into the paper towel tube slide.

Malik says, UH, I THINK THE BALL HIT SOMETHING.

[Upbeat music plays]

The wombat children slide down a slide.

The children say, WHEE!

[Slide whistle]

They slide out the bottom and land on a deck.

Zeke says, OUR BALL!

[Slide whistle]

Louisa holds the ball. Behind her, a bucket holds Sir Snuggles on a zipline. A clothespin stops the bucket from sliding.

[Slide whistle, boinging, clattering]

Louisa remembers the ball bouncing off the house and landing in the bucket.

Louisa says, YOU MEAN MY BALL. IT HIT MY HOUSE, BOUNCED OFF, AND LANDED IN MY BUCKET. AND THAT MEANS FINDERS KEEPERS! I'M MAKING A BUCKET RIDE FOR SIR SNUGGLES, BECAUSE HE'S TIRED OF WALKING.

[Slide whistle, bucket clattering]

Louisa imagines removing the clothespin, putting Sir Snuggles in the bucket, and the bucket sliding down the zipline to the Sow ‘N Grow Garden.

Louisa says, IF I TAKE OFF THE CLOTHESPINS AND PUT SIR SNUGGLES IN THE BUCKET, HE'LL MAKE THE BUCKET SLIDE DOWN THE ZIP LINE. ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SOW AND GROW GARDEN!

[Slide whistle, bucket clattering]

Zadie imagines the bucket sliding down the zipline to the Sow ‘N Grow Garden.

Zadie says, WAIT A SECOND, IF THE WEIGHT OF SIR SNUGGLES CAN TAKE THE BUCKET DOWN THE ZIP LINE, SO CAN OUR BALL!

Malik says, THAT COULD BE THE PERFECT WAY TO CONNECT OUR CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE TO THE SOW AND GROW GARDEN!

[Slide whistle, thumping, water splashing]

Zadie imagines the bucket tipping the watering can toward the flower.

Zadie says, YES, IF THE BALL GETS THE BUCKET TO THE SOW AND GROW GARDEN, WE COULD THEN USE THE BUCKET TO CAUSE THE WATERING CAN TO TIP OVER AND WATER THE FLOWER.

Louisa asks, DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT YOU COULD JUST WATER THE FLOWER BY HAND?

Zeke says, WE CAN'T, 'CAUSE WE'VE GOT TO WATER THE FLOWER AT THE SAME TIME THAT WE WANT TO WATCH THE GAME SHOW, SO... COULD WE HAVE OUR BALL BACK AND USE YOUR BUCKET?

Louisa says, I MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN A TRADE. WHAT YOU GOT?

Malik asks, HOW ABOUT A YOYO?

[Slide whistle, whooshing]

Malik takes out a yoyo and does tricks.

Louisa says, TO YOYOEY. WHAT ELSE YOU GOT?

Zeke says, UM, I'VE GOT A CLOTHESPIN.

[Whooshing, bright music notes play]

Louisa takes the clothespin.

Louisa says, YOU'VE GOT YOURSELF A TRADE!

Zadie asks, YOU'D RATHER HAVE A CLOTHESPIN THAN A COOL YOYO?

[Chest opening, upbeat music plays]

Louisa opens a small chest and reveals her clothespin collection.

Louisa says, DID YOU NOT KNOW THAT I COLLECT CLOTHESPINS? MARVEL AT THEIR BEAUTY.

[Horn tooting]

Over the speaker, Super announces, ATTENTION, FAMILY FOOD IS STARTING AT SUNSET, WHICH IS REALLY, REALLY SOON. SO, IF YOU'RE DOING ANYTHING, LIKE BUILDING A CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE, YOU'D BETTER HURRY!

[Slide whistle]

The speaker retracts.

Zadie says, LET'S GO TEST IT OUT.

[Clattering, slide whistles, bell ringing, thudding, tense music plays, boinging, bucket clunking]

In the Starlight Room, Zadie knocks over the dominoes, and the ball rolls into the paper towel tube slide. The ball bounces off Ellie’s bell and trampoline and into the slide. It rolls out of the slide and lands in the bucket, knocking the clothespin loose. The bucket slides down the zipline and lands on a rock at the Sow ‘N Grow Garden.

On the Starlight Room deck, Zeke says, WE WORKED IT OUT!

The children run down to the bucket, and Zadie takes the ball out.

[Skateboard wheels rumbling]

Sammy asks, WHAT'S WITH THE BALL IN THE BUCKET?

[Slide whistle, clattering, whooshing, dinging]

Zadie throws the ball into the bucket. She rolls to the flower and back to the bucket on the rock.

Zadie says, WE'RE BUILDING A CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE THAT WILL WATER THIS FLOWER. WE HAVE TO WORK OUT HOW TO GET THIS BUCKET TO HIT THAT WATERING CAN, AND THEN TIP THE WATER ONTO THAT FLOWER.

Malik says, WE NEED SOMETHING THAT CAN GET TO THE WATERING CAN.

[Boinging, excited music notes play]

Zadie jumps up and down.

Zadie says, OH, OH! SAMMY, CAN WE BORROW YOUR SKATEBOARD?

Sammy says, SURE!

[Wheels squeaking, upbeat music plays]

Sammy knocks the skateboard to Zadie.

Zadie says, THE BUCKET COULD HIT THE SKATEBOARD, CAUSING IT TO GO.

[Wheels rumbling]

Zadie knocks the skateboard down the sloped side of the rock.

Zeke asks, BUT HOW DO WE LIFT THE WATERING CAN AND MAKE IT TIP?

Zadie says, HMM.

[Gasping, slide whistle]

Zadie imagines a string tied to the skateboard and the watering can.

Zadie says, WE TIE A PIECE OF STRING FROM THE WATERING CAN TO THE SKATEBOARD!

[Slide whistles, clattering]

She imagines the bucket knocking the skateboard off the rock. The skateboard rolls forward and pulls the watering can into the air.

Sammy says, THEN WHEN THE SKATEBOARD ROLLS DOWN THE RAMP, IT COULD PULL THE STRING, CAUSING THE WATERING CAN TO TIP OVER.

[Tense music plays]

Malik says, LOOK, THE SUN IS ABOUT TO SET; THE GAME SHOW IS ABOUT TO START! AND THE SUNSET BLOSSOM NEEDS TO BE WATERED! LET'S ROLL.

[Cheering, chuckling]

In the Starlight Room, Ellie, Malik, Zadie, Zeke, Sammy, Quique, and Louisa watch a television. On the screen, the curtains part, revealing the host, a flamingo.

[Television audience applauding]

The host says, WELCOME TO FAMILY FOOD!

[Cheering, laughing

The host says, TODAY, THE SHELLY FAMILY WILL COMPETE AGAINST THE STRIPEBERG FAMILY.

[Audience applauding]

The Shelly family stands on one side of the host, and the Stripeberg family, a family of zebras, stands on the other.

[Zeke applauding]

In the Starlight Room, Zeke claps.

Zeke says, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IF THE SHELLYS WIN! BUT I ALSO WISH WE COULD SEE OUR CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE WORKING.

[Wheels squeaking]

Super pushes a smaller television on a cart to the front of the room.

Super says. I THOUGHT YOU'D SAY THAT, WHICH IS WHY I SET CAMERAS UP ALL THE WAY DOWN THE TREEBORHOOD SO WE CAN WATCH YOUR MACHINE.

Zadie, Malik, and Zeke say, COOL!

On the television, the host says, WE'LL START THE GAME AFTER THIS COMMERCIAL BREAK.

[Audience applauding, static hissing, upbeat music plays, whooshing]

In a commercial, Mr. E. says, THERE'S SIMPLY NOTHING THIS GOO CAN'T DO!

[Exciting music plays]

In the Starlight Room, Zeke says, IT'S SUNSET, SO THAT MEANS IT'S GO TIME!

Zadie says, YEAH!

[Clattering, slide whistles, bell ringing, thudding, tense music plays, boinging, bucket clunking]

Zadie knocks over the dominoes. On the screen on the smaller television, the ball rolls into the paper towel tube slide. The ball bounces off Ellie’s bell and trampoline and into the slide. It rolls out of the slide and lands in the bucket, knocking the clothespin loose. The bucket slides down the zipline and lands on a rock at the Sow ‘N Grow Garden. The skateboard slides forward and lifts the watering can. The watering can waters the flower.

[Cheering, applauding, laughing]

Zadie says, WE WORKED IT OUT!

Zeke says, WE MADE A CAUSE-AND-EFFECT MACHINE THAT WATERED THE FLOWER.

[Applauding on the television]

Malik says, SHH, THE SHOW IS STARTING.

The host says, USING YOUR NOSES, NAME THIS FOOD.

[Plate clattering]

Kit sniffing blue cheese.

Kit says, OH!

[Buzzing, claw snapping]

Kit says, I'D KNOW THAT STINK ANYWHERE. IT'S BLUE CHEESE!

The host says, THAT IS...

[Drum roll plays, dinging]

The host says, CORRECT!

[Audience applauding, Starlight Room audience cheering, laughing, clapping]

The host says, NEXT QUESTION, WHAT IS THE KEY INGREDIENT FOR HUMMUS?

[Tense music plays]

A purple zebra says, OH!

[Buzzing]

The purple zebra says, GARBANZO BEANS!

The host says, CORRECT!

[Audience applauding, Starlight Room audience groaning]

The host says, FINAL QUESTION THE FAMILY THAT ANSWERS THIS CORRECTLY WINS THE GAME.

[Tense music plays, whooshing, gulping]

The host asks, HOW MUCH DOES THE WORLD'S LARGEST PUMPKIN WEIGH?

Kat says, HAH!

[Buzzing]

On the television, Kat says, 2,703 POUNDS.

In the Starlight Room, Zeke says, 2,703 POUNDS.

[Upbeat music plays, audience applauding]

On the television, balloons and confetti fall on the contestants and host.

The host says, THAT IS CORRECT, THE SHELLY FAMILY WINS!

[Starlight Room audience cheering, laughing, clapping]

The host says, AND THE SHELLY FAMILY WINS A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF PUMPKIN FLAVOURED POPCORN!

[Kit and Kat cheering]

[In the Starlight Room, Zadie giggling]

Zadie says, TOLD YOU.

[Zeke giggling]

[Upbeat music plays]

In the wombat children’s bedroom, Zadie runs with an airplane toy. Malik and Zeke play on the floor, surrounded by piles of clothing and toys.

Super says, SQUISHES! ARE YOU FINISHED CLEANING YOUR ROOM YET?

[Slide whistle]

The children look at each other and then at their messy room.

Everyone sings, WHEN THERE'S A MESS TO CLEAN.

Zadie sings, I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Everyone sings, YOU CAN BREAK IT DOWN.

Malik sings, AND DO IT PART BY PART.

Everyone sings, IF YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED.

Zeke sings, JUST THINK IT THROUGH. DON'T FROWN.

Zadie sings, COME UP WITH A PLAN TO…

Everyone sings, BREAK IT DOWN.

[Slide whistles, upbeat music continues]

Zadie takes two books out of a pile. She imagines sorting a pile of toys, books, and clothing.

Zadie sings, WE'LL BREAK UP THE JOB AND EACH TAKE A PART. DIVIDE IT UP.

Malik sings, WE'LL GET TO WORK AND SOON ENOUGH.

Zeke sings, WE'LL SEE THE FLOOR AGAIN.

Malik sings, I'LL PICK UP THE CLOTHES.

Malik picks up clothing, and Zeke picks up toys.

Zeke sings, I'LL TAKE ON THE TOYS.

[Rustling]

Zadie picks up books.

Zadie sings, AND I'LL CLEAN UP THE BOOKS.

Malik sings, A BIG JOB CAN BE BROKEN DOWN NO MATTER HOW HARD IT LOOKS.

Everyone sings, WHEN THERE'S A MESS TO CLEAN.

Zadie sings, I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Everyone sings, YOU CAN BREAK IT DOWN.

[Boinging]

A ball bounces off a bookcase.

Malik sings, AND DO IT PART BY PART.

Everyone sings, IF YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED.

Zadie sings, JUST THINK IT THROUGH. DON'T FROWN.

Zeke sings, COME UP WITH A PLAN.

Everyone sings, TO BREAK IT DOWN.

[Slide whistles]

Malik pushes a dresser drawer shut.

Zeke sings, SEARCH HIGH.

Zadie sings, AND LOW.

[Slide whistle]

Malik throws a sock on top of the stack of clothing he carries.

Malik sings, AND AWAY WE GO.

Everyone sings, PART BY PART, RIGHT FROM THE START.

[Crashing, thudding, slide whistle]

The children carry large stacks and walk into each other. Everything falls on the floor.

Everyone sings, ALL CLEAN BEFORE YOU KNOW WHEN THERE'S A MESS TO CLEAN.

Zadie sings, I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Everyone sings, YOU CAN BREAK IT DOWN.

[Slide whistles]

The toys land in a toy chest.

Malik sings, AND DO IT PART BY PART.

Everyone sings, IF YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED

Zadie sings, JUST THINK IT THROUGH, DON'T FROWN.

Zeke sings, COME UP WITH A PLAN.

Everyone sings, TO BREAK IT DOWN.

[Whooshing]

Zeke throws the toy airplane into the toy chest. Super opens the door and smiles.

Episode title: Riddles of the Treeborhood.

A purple bird plays a drum.

[Drumming]

Text reads, “Written by Sydney Isaacs. Directed by Jeff Barker, Andrea Gerstmann.”

[Upbeat music plays, rake scraping]

The purple bird lands on the Everything Emporium. Below, Mr. E. rakes leaves off his path.

Mr. E. says, RAKE, RAKE, RAKE! ALMOST DONE, THEN I CAN HAVE SOME FUN! HUZZAH!

[Whooshing, flapping, slide whistle]

The purple bird takes off, knocking leaves to the ground.

[Unhappy music plays, rake scraping]

Mr. E. says, OH! WIND!

In the wombat living room, Super sits on the couch with Zeke, Malik, and Zadie. She holds a photograph.

Super says, THIS PHOTO IS OF CHANÁA, ONE OF MY OLDEST FRIENDS IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD. I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO MEET CHANÁA, HE'S SUCH A FUN TRICKSTER. ALWAYS PLAYING TRICKS.

In the photograph, the purple bird holds rabbit ears over the much younger Super’s head. Outside, Chanáa hides in a bush. Kit and Kat walk towards a hole with a small tree.

[Tense music plays, Chanáa sneezing, yelping]

The tree falls into the hole.

[Kat cheering]

Kit says, FABULOUS!

[Chanáa laughing]

In the living room, Super says, CHANÁA IS ALSO A TERRIFIC SINGER AND DANCER.

[Super giggling]

Super says, WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE HIM PERFORM THIS AFTERNOON.

[Boinging]

Zadie bounces on the couch.

Zadie says, I CAN'T WAIT! WHEN WILL HE EVER GET HERE?

[Knocking]

Zadie says, HE'S HERE!

[Door creaking, tense music plays]

Zadie opens the door.

Malik says, HUH? NO ONE'S HERE.

[Door shutting, knocking, door opening, whooshing]

Chanáa stands to the side of the door. His beak pokes around the doorway.

Malik says, AH HAH, I SEE YOU, CHANÁA!

[Chuckling]

Chanáa says, OH, YOU GOT ME! GEE, YOU MUST HAVE GOOD EYES TO BE ABLE TO SPOT THE GREAT CHANÁA, MASTER OF TRICKY HIDING.

[Wombats giggling]

Chanáa bows.

Chanáa says, SUPER.

Chanáa and Super hug.

Super says, CHANÁA!

Chanáa says, AND THESE MUST BE YOUR LITTLE GRAND WOMBATS! MALIK, ZADIE, AND...

[Slide whistle]

Chanáa looks between his legs. Zeke hides behind Super’s legs and holds out Snout.

Zeke says, HELLO, I'M SNOUT.

Chanáa shakes Snout’s paw.

Chanáa says, IT'S GREAT TO MEET YOU, SNOUT. I BET YOU TAKE REAL GOOD CARE OF EVERYONE IN YOUR HOUSE. OR, AS WE LIKE TO CALL IT WHERE I'M FROM, YOUR CLAN. WHO'S YOUR FRIEND HERE? I THINK HE MIGHT ALSO BE A MASTER OF HIDING.

[Upbeat music plays]

Zeke says, I'M ZEKE, AND I TAKE GOOD CARE OF EVERYONE IN THE CLAN, TOO.

[Chanáa’s stomach rumbling, Super chuckling]

Chanáa says, HEY, ARE YOU FOLKS HUNGRY? I BROUGHT US SOME TASTY BLUEBERRIES FROM MY HOME UP IN ALASKA.

[Munching, Chanáa sighing]

Everyone sits at a table with bowls of blueberries.

Chanáa FOOD ALWAYS TASTES BETTER WHEN YOU CAN SHARE IT WITH OTHERS. HEY, DO YOU KIDS WANT TO HEAR A RIDDLE?

Super says, OH HO, YOU'LL LOVE THESE! WHEN I WAS ABOUT YOUR AGE, CHANÁA USED TO STUMP ME WITH HIS RIDDLES ALL THE TIME.

[Chuckling]

Zeke says, SNOUT WANTS TO KNOW WHAT A RIDDLE IS.

[Bright music plays]

Chanáa says, OH, SURE! WELL, RIDDLES ARE LIKE WORD PUZZLES. THEY'RE GOOD FOR KEEPING YOUR BRAIN SHARP. NOW, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY PART OF THE RIDDLE TO WORK OUT THE ANSWER. SO, IF I ASK SOMETHING LIKE, WHAT IS THE SADDEST BERRY IN THE WORLD, YOU'D SAY, "A BLUEBERRY," RIGHT? BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE FEELING SAD, YOU MIGHT SAY YOU'RE FEELING BLUE.

[Super chuckling]

Super says, WHENEVER CHANÁA VISITS, HE TELLS THREE RIDDLES, AND IF YOU SOLVE THEM ALL, YOU GET A SPECIAL PRIZE.

Zadie asks, WHAT WAS YOUR SPECIAL PRIZE, SUPER?

Super says, I NEVER ACTUALLY GOT ONE. I COULD NEVER SOLVE THE LAST RIDDLE. IT WAS ALWAYS TOO TRICKY.

[Upbeat music plays quietly]

Chanáa says, I HAVE THREE RULES FOR SOLVING MY RIDDLES. FIRST, YOU HAVE TO WORK OUT THE ANSWER TO MY RIDDLE. SECOND, YOU HAVE TO BRING ME THE ANSWER TO MY RIDDLE. SO, IF THE ANSWER TO MY RIDDLE IS "BLUEBERRY," THEN YOU BRING ME A BLUEBERRY.

[Munching]

Chanáa eats a blueberry.

Chanáa says, THIRD, YOU HAVE TO SOLVE ALL THREE RIDDLES BEFORE MY DANCE PERFORMANCE, WHICH IS THIS AFTERNOON.

[Munching, boinging]

Chanáa eats a blueberry. Zadie bounces excitedly in her chair.

Zadie says, TELL US THE FIRST RIDDLE!

Chanáa says, WHAT RHYMES WITH "SKEDADDLE," AND IS USED WITH A CANOE?

The children say, HMM...

Super says, WHILE THEY PUZZLE IT OUT, I HAVE TO GO SET UP FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE.

Chanáa says, AND I NEED TO PAY A VISIT TO A COUPLE OF FOLKS AROUND THE TREEBORHOOD.

[Pans clattering]

Chanáa picks up baking pans.

Super says, HUH?

Chanáa says, OH, IT'S FOR MR. E.

[Super snapping her fingers]

Super says, HEY, SQUISHES, A LITTLE HELPFUL HINT SAYING THE RIDDLE OUT LOUD MIGHT HELP.

Malik says, HMM, WHAT RHYMES WITH "SKEDADDLE" AND IS USED WITH A CANOE?

[Slide whistle, rattling, water bubbling]

Zadie thinks about the Fishman babies playing with a rattle.

Zadie says, HMM... WHAT ABOUT "RATTLE"? THAT RHYMES WITH SKEDADDLE! OH, I BET THE FISHMANS HAVE LOTS OF BABY RATTLES WE CAN BORROW. COME ON!

[Crying, rattling, soft music plays, boinging]

In the Fishman home, Fergus shakes a rattle, and the babies fall asleep.

Zadie whispers, SINCE YOUR BABIES ARE ASLEEP, COULD WE BORROW THEIR RATTLE?

Fergus says, OF COURSE!

[Rattling, splashing, happy music notes play]

He throws the rattle to Zadie.

Zadie whispers, THANK YOU. LET'S GIVE THIS TO CHANÁA. HE SAID HE WOULD BE WITH MR. E.

[Rake scraping]

In front of the Everything Emporium, Mr. E. finishes sweeping leaves off the path.

Mr. E. says, AH, WELL DONE SWEEPING UP ALL THE LEAVES, MR. E!

Mr. E. sings, YOU'RE THE BEST.

[Metal rattling]

On the roof, Chanáa hits a pan.

Mr. E. says, OH, SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER! FIRST WIND, AND NOW RAIN!

[Creaking, slide whistle, chuckling]

Mr. E. runs inside and returns with an umbrella.

Chanáa says, DON'T WORRY, MR. E. YOU WON'T BE NEEDING THAT UMBRELLA TODAY.

[Metal rattling]

Mr. E. says, CHANÁA, YOU TRICKED ME!

[Rustling]

Chanáa says, HOPE TO SEE YOU AT MY DANCE PERFORMANCE LATER, HMM?

Mr. E. says, OH, YOU'RE PERFORMING? I'LL BE THERE! OR NOT...

[Whooshing, banging, door closing]

The umbrella closes around Mr. E., and he stumbles inside the Emporium.

Zadie says, WE WORKED IT OUT, CHANÁA! THE ANSWER TO YOUR FIRST RIDDLE IS "RATTLE!"

[Rattling]

Zadie says, RATTLE RHYMES WITH SKEDADDLE.

Chanáa says, AH, SORRY, KIDDOS. THAT'S NOT RIGHT. YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE WHOLE RIDDLE, AND NOT JUST PART OF IT. GOOD LUCK! I'LL BE IN THE SOW AND GROW GARDEN IF YOU SOLVE THE RIDDLE.

[Upbeat music plays]

Malik says, WHAT RHYMES WITH SKEDADDLE AND IS USED WITH A CANOE? WE DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE CANOE PART!

[Slide whistle, rattling]

Malik thinks of a canoe. He imagines him, Zadie, and Zeke rowing it with rattles.

Malik says, RATTLE RHYMES WITH SKEDADDLE, BUT YOU DON'T USE A RATTLE WITH A CANOE.

[Rattling]
Zeke imagines Malik turning into a baby in the canoe.

Zeke says, WELL, UNLESS YOU HAVE A BABY WITH YOU.

[Poofing]

The daydream ends.

Zeke says, THINKING POSITIONS!

[Slide whistle, happy music plays, slide whistle, popping]

The children hang upside down from a tree branch. Malik imagines wearing lifejackets in the canoe.

Malik asks, WHAT DO YOU USE WITH A CANOE? WHAT ABOUT LIFE JACKETS? YOU ALWAYS WEAR THOSE AROUND WATER.

Zadie says, LIFEJACKETS AND SKEDADDLE DON'T RHYME, THOUGH.

[Popping]

Zadie imagines the lifejackets disappearing.

Zeke asks, WHAT DO YOU USE TO MOVE A CANOE?

[Slide whistle, dinging]

Zadie images holding a paddle.

Zadie says, A PADDLE! PADDLE, SKEDADDLE. THOSE RHYME.

[Water splashing, whooshing]

Zadie imagines paddling the canoe. Malik flips down to the ground.

Malik says, THAT'S IT, ZADIE! PADDLE RHYMES WITH SKEDADDLE AND IS USED TO MOVE A CANOE.

[Slide whistle]

Zadie and Zeke leap to the ground.

Zadie says, SO, THE ANSWER IS PADDLE! WE HAVE PADDLES AT LAKE BELLYFLOP.

Over a speaker, Super announces, CHANÁA'S DANCE PERFORMANCE WILL BE STARTING IN ONE HOUR.

Zeke says, WE'VE GOT TO HURRY!

Zadie says, VROOM, VROOM, VROOM!

[Slide whistles, toys rattling]

On the beach, the children throw a pool noodle, beach toys, and a paddle out of canoes.

Zeke says, FOUND THE PADDLE!

Malik says, LET'S TAKE IT TO CHANÁA. HE SAID HE'D BE IN THE SOW AND GROW GARDEN.

[Slide whistles]

The children throw the items back into the canoes and take the paddle. They run to the garden and find Chanáa.

[Panting]

Malik says, THE ANSWER TO YOUR FIRST... RIDDLE IS... PADDLE!

[Slide whistle, Chanáa chuckling]

Malik holds up the paddle, and Chanáa takes it.

[Speaking Alaskan Indigenous dialect]

Chanáa says, THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER.

[Children cheering, happy music notes play]

Chanáa says, I KNEW YOU KIDS HAD A KNACK FOR RIDDLES, JUST LIKE YOUR GRANDMA. HERE COMES THE SECOND RIDDLE. YOU WEAR A WARM ONE ON A COLD NIGHT, A HARD ONE ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE, AND A CHEF'S IS USUALLY WHITE.

The children say, HMM.

[Chanáa chuckling]

Chanáa says, YOU KNOW, BACK IN THE DAY, I REALLY STUMPED AMADO WITH THIS ONE. OH, SPEAKING OF AMADO, I NEED TO PAY HIM A VISIT.

[Rustling footsteps, cheerful music plays]

Chanáa walks away with the paddle.

Malik says, YOU WEAR A WARM ONE ON A COLD NIGHT, A HARD ONE AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE, AND A CHEF'S IS USUALLY WHITE.

Zeke says, I THINK IT'S WARM CLOTHES, LIKE SCARVES AND JACKETS, BECAUSE YOU WEAR THEM ON COLD NIGHTS.

[Gasping]

Zadie and Malik say, YEAH!

[Slide whistles]

The children run away from the garden. Elsewhere, Chanáa hides behind a plant, and Amado waters it.

[Water splashing]

Chanáa says, AH, THANKS, AMADO! I WAS THIRSTY.

[Amado speaking foreign language]

Amado says, A TALKING FERN? THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A TALKING FERN. THERE'S ONLY ONE SOMEBODY WHO WOULD TRICK ME LIKE THAT.

[Chanáa laughing, slide whistle]

Chanáa pokes his head out of the plant.

Amado says, YOU ALMOST GOT ME, YOU OLD TRICKSTER.

[Zeke speaking, muffled by scarf]

Zeke, Zadie, and Malik wear scarves, jackets, and boots.

Chanáa says, HMM, WHAT WAS THAT?

[Scarf rustling, bright music plays]

Zeke says, THE ANSWER TO YOUR RIDDLE IS WARM CLOTHES!

Zadie says, BECAUSE YOU WANT TO WEAR WARM CLOTHES ON COLD NIGHTS.

Chanáa says, HMM, ALTHOUGH IT'S TRUE YOU WANT TO DRESS WARMLY ON COLD NIGHTS, THAT'S NOT THE ANSWER TO THE RIDDLE.

The children say, AWW.

Chanáa says, I'LL BE AT ELLIE'S WHEN YOU WORK IT OUT.

[Flapping]

Chanáa flies away.

Zadie says, OKAY, WE MUST HAVE NOT PAID ATTENTION TO ALL THE IMPORTANT PARTS OF THE RIDDLE.

Zeke says, LET'S SAY IT OUT LOUD AGAIN.

Malik says, YOU WEAR A WARM ONE ON A COLD NIGHT, A HARD ONE AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE, AND A CHEF'S IS USUALLY WHITE.

Zadie says, WOMBAT THINKING WALK!

[Soothing music plays, footsteps pattering]

The children pace in circles.

Zadie says, THESE WARM CLOTHES AREN'T HARD, THEY'RE SOFT.

[Dinging]

Zeke says, AND WARM CLOTHES AREN'T WORN AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE.
[Dinging]

Malik says, AND WE NEED TO REMEMBER THE THIRD PART OF THE RIDDLE A CHEF'S IS USUALLY WHITE.

[Dinging, slide whistle, poofing]

Zadie imagines her, Zeke, and Malik in a kitchen, wearing white scarves, jackets, and boots.

Zadie says, I DON'T THINK A CHEF WOULD ONLY HAVE WHITE WARM CLOTHES.

Zeke says, SO, WE KNOW THE ANSWER ISN'T WHITE WARM CLOTHES.

Zadie says, YEAH, CAN'T BE, 'CAUSE IT'S SOMETHING YOU WEAR AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE, AND IT'S ALSO SOMETHING THAT'S HARD.

[Slide whistle, poofing]

Malik imagines them in the kitchen, wearing white hard hats.

Malik says, WHAT ABOUT A HARD HAT?

Zadie says, CHEFS DON'T WEAR WHITE HARD HATS.

[Poofing]

Malik imagines white chef’s hats.

Malik says, THEY DO WEAR A WHITE HAT WHEN THEY COOK!

[Slide whistle, poofing]

Everyone imagines wearing a warm hat.

Zeke says, AND YOU DO WEAR A WARM HAT ON A COLD NIGHT.

Zadie says, SO, THE ANSWER IS HATS! TO ELLIE'S HOUSE!

Over the speaker, Super announces, CHANÁA'S DANCE PERFORMANCE WILL BE STARTING IN 30 MINUTES.

Malik says, HURRY, WE STILL HAVE ONE MORE RIDDLE, AND WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

[Slide whistle]

The children’s warm clothes fall off as they run.

[Flapping, boinging, upbeat music plays]

In her yard, Ellie jumps on her trampoline. Chanáa flies over and jumps with her.

Chanáa says, GLAD TO HAVE A LITTLE BOUNCE WITH YOU, ELLIE. IT WILL GET ME WARMED UP FOR MY DANCE PERFORMANCE.

The children arrive. Zeke wears a hard hat, Zadie wears a warm hat, and Malik wears a chef’s hat.

Zadie says, CHANÁA, THE ANSWER TO YOUR SECOND RIDDLE IS HATS!

[Grunting, boinging, happy music notes play]

Chanáa jumps off the trampoline and lands in front of the children. Ellie continues bouncing.

Chanáa says, THAT'S THE CORRECT ANSWER. GOOD JOB, WOMBATS! ONLY ONE RIDDLE LEFT TO WORK OUT. ARE YOU READY?

The children say, YES!

Chanáa says, OKAY, I'M A HIT TO PLAY, USUALLY WITH A STICK OR TWO, BUT SOMETIMES EVEN HANDS WILL DO. WHAT AM I?

Malik says, THAT'S A HARD ONE.

Chanáa says, I ALWAYS SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST, AND YOU'D BETTER HURRY! MY PERFORMANCE IS STARTING SOON.

[Upbeat music plays, flapping]

Chanáa flies away.

Malik says, SAYING THE RIDDLE OUT LOUD ALWAYS HELPS US THINK, SO... I'M A HIT TO PLAY. THAT MUST MEAN IT'S REALLY FUN TO PLAY WITH.

[Sticks tapping]

Zadie taps two sticks together.

Zadie says, USUALLY WITH A STICK OR TWO, WHICH MEANS YOU CAN PLAY THIS THING WITH ONE OR TWO STICKS.

Zeke says, HMM, BUT SOMETIMES EVEN HANDS WILL DO, SO THAT MEANS YOU CAN JUST PLAY WITH THE STICKS, BUT YOU CAN JUST USE YOUR HANDS, TOO.

Zeke drums with his hands on a tree branch, and Zadie drums with her sticks on the wooden path.

Malik says, COOL BEAT!

Zadie says, YEAH, WE SHOULD PLAY IT ON A DRUM SOMETIME.

[Gasping]

Everyone says, A DRUM!

Zeke says, YOU CAN PLAY A DRUM WITH YOUR HANDS.

[Dinging]

Zadie says, OR WITH DRUMSTICKS!

Over the speaker, Super announces, CHANÁA'S DANCE PERFORMANCE WILL BE STARTING IN TWO MINUTES.

[Slide whistle, boinging]

Malik leaps.

Malik says, WE WORKED IT OUT, WOMBATS! LET'S FIND A DRUM, FAST!

In the Starlight Room, Chanáa walks onto a stage in front of an audience, carrying a drum.

The children shout, LOOK OUT!

[Door opening, dramatic music plays]

A drum rolls into the room, and Zadie, Malik, and Zeke chase it.

They shout, RUNAWAY DRUM!

[Slide whistle, thudding]

The drum hits the edge of the stage and falls beside Chanáa. He flinches.

Zadie sings, TAH-DAH!

[Cheerful music plays]

Zadie says, THE ANSWER TO THE LAST RIDDLE.

[Slide whistle, Zadie drumming with her sticks]

Malik says, I'M A HIT TO PLAY, USUALLY WITH A STICK.

Zadie says, OR TWO.

Zeke says, BUT SOMETIMES EVEN HANDS WILL DO.

[Zeke drumming with his hands]

Chanáa says, CONGRATULATIONS, LITTLE RIDDLERS! YOU'VE ANSWERED ALL MY RIDDLES. SOMETHING NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DO UNTIL TODAY.

[Audience cheering, applause]

Chanáa asks, ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR PRIZE?

The children say, YES!

[Slide whistle, rustling, upbeat music plays, whooshing]

Chanáa reaches into a chest and takes out a small paddle, hat, and drum. He gives Malik the paddle, Zadie the hat, and Zeke the drum.

Chanáa says, FOR RIDDLE NUMBER ONE, HERE IS A PADDLE. FOR RIDDLE NUMBER TWO, A CEDAR HAT. AND FOR RIDDLE NUMBER THREE, A DRUM.

[Dinging. whooshing]

Chanáa says, AND NOW, YOU KIDS GET TO SING AND DANCE WITH ME!

The children say, THANK YOU, CHANÁA!

[Audience cheering, drumming]

[Upbeat music plays]
