Logo: B.B.C. An illustration shows a little girl with black hair holding a stuffed toy panda and an older woman with grey hair.

A singer sings, JOJO AND GRAN GRAN.

[Uplifting music plays]

In an animated world, a door opens, revealing a woman with tightly braided black hair and a man with short black hair, a neatly trimmed beard, and glasses. The man and woman smile.

The singer sings, TAKE MY HAND
AND COME WITH ME.

JoJo runs outside with Panda and takes Gran Gran’s hand.

The singer sings, ON A JOURNEY THROUGH
OUR STREETS.

JoJo and Gran Gran walk down a city sidewalk. They wave to a bearded man, Ned, walking his small dog Monty.

The singer sings WE'LL SAY HELLO TO
EVERYBODY THAT WE MEET.

Ned waves before Monty pulls him away. On a rainy day, JoJo and Gran Gran wear raincoats and carry umbrellas.

The singer sings, THROUGH THE YEAR,
AS SEASONS CHANGE,
EXPLORING EVERY DAY,
WE TAKE OUR TIME
TO STOP AND PLAY.

JoJo and Gran Gran jump in puddles. On a sunny day, they walk into a park. A red double-decker bus passes by the park.

The singer sings, AND WHEN THE SPRINGTIME
BLOSSOM
TURNS TO SUMMER SUN,
JOJO LIKES TO GET OUTSIDE,
GRAN GRAN ALWAYS
MAKES IT FUN!

On another day, JoJo and Gran Gran roll down a grassy hill. In the fall, JoJo throws leaves in the air.

The singer sings, WHEN THE AUTUMN RAINFALL
TURNS TO WINTER SNOW,
I KNOW A SPECIAL PLACE,
A PLACE WHERE WE CAN GO.

In the winter a black-haired man with a neatly trimmed beard, Jarrod, makes a snowman. He waves as JoJo and Gran Gran walk by in their winter coats. In the Spring, Gran Gran’s grey-haired neighbour, Cynthia, waters the flowers in her front garden. JoJo and Gran Gran wave on their way to Gran Gran’s house.

The singer sings, TAKE MY HAND,
WE'RE HEADING HOME
WITH JOJO AND GRAN GRAN.

JoJo and Gran Gran walk to Gran Gran’s front door. The title reads JoJo and Gran Gran.

JoJo says, It’s Time to Visit the Optician.

Black text in the sky reads, Written by Alison Rae.

[Gentle music plays]

Gran Gran narrates, IT WAS A SPRING
MORNING, THE BLOSSOM WAS ON THE
TREES, THE SUN WAS SHINING, AND
JOJO AND GRAN GRAN, THAT'S ME,
WERE HAVING BREAKFAST WITH DADDY.

In Gran Gran’s kitchen, Gran Gran stands at the sink. JoJo and Daddy sit at a table. Daddy puts a red mug down on the table.

[Clink]

Daddy says, THANKS FOR THE CUPPA,
GRAN GRAN.

Gran Gran says, OH, YOU'RE WELCOME.

Daddy asks, HEY, ARE YOU EXCITED FOR YOUR
EYE TEST, JOJO?

JoJo says, I CAN'T WAIT.
DO YOU THINK I'LL NEED GLASSES
LIKE YOU, DADDY?

Daddy says, MM, I'M NOT SURE.

JoJo asks, WHY DO YOU WEAR GLASSES,
DADDY?

Daddy explains, WELL, IF I DON'T WEAR MY
GLASSES, THINGS THAT ARE FAR
AWAY, LIKE YOU AND PANDA, ARE
HARD FOR ME TO SEE CLEARLY.
IT'S CALLED BEING SHORT-SIGHTED.

Daddy takes off his eyeglasses, and JoJo and Gran Gran are blurry. He holds his eyeglasses in front of his eyes and JoJo and Gran Gran are clear.

Daddy says, BUT WITH MY GLASSES ON, I CAN
SEE YOU PERFECTLY.

HI, JOJO. HI, GRAN GRAN.

[Chuckling]

Daddy says, SO, MY GLASSES HELP ME SEE
EVERYTHING CLEARLY.

WELL, I'D BEST BE OFF TO WORK.
LOVE YOU.

Daddy kisses the top of JoJo’s head.

[Smooch, gentle music plays]

JoJo says, LOVE YOU TOO, DADDY.

Daddy says, BYE, GRAN GRAN.

Gran Gran says, SEE YOU LATER.

[Gentle music plays]

JoJo whispers, MAYBE I'LL GET GLASSES,
PANDA, JUST LIKE DADDY.

In live-action, a young child with tightly braided dark brown hair stands on a patio.

[Upbeat music plays]

The child with braids says, GLASSES ARE THINGS THAT HELP YOU SEE.

Two girls sit side by side. One girl has short, tightly braided black hair. She wears a white and green striped T-shirt with a strawberry pattern around the neck. To her left sits a girl with long, curly, dark brown hair in a high ponytail. She wears a white T-shirt with a floral and butterfly pattern. She raises her arms above her head excitedly.

The black-haired girl says, ONCE I WENT TO THE OPTICIAN TO GET MY EYES CHECKED.

In a room, in front of a playhouse, a boy with short blond hair wears a green sweater with a hood.

The blond-haired boy says,
GLASSES HELP YOU SEE BETTER,
AND THEY HAVE COLOURS, AND
THERE'S A HOLE FOR YOUR NOSE.

In a room with art supplies on a shelf, two boys sit side by side. One boy has short black hair. He wears eyeglasses and a yellow T-shirt with two stingrays on the front. Beside him sits a boy with short strawberry-blond hair wearing a blue shirt with animals on the front.

The boy with short black hair says GLASSES HELP YOU SEE THE WORLD.

In a grassy field, a young boy and a girl sit side by side. The boy has straight, black hair. The girl wears her straight, black hair in pigtails.
The girl with pigtails says,
THERE ARE DIFFERENT KIND OF
COLOURS, BUT THEY NEED TO, LIKE,
BE THE PERFECT SIZE.

In a yard, a girl with long, brown hair sits in front of a play kitchen. She wears a pink T-shirt.

The brown-haired girl says,
MY NANA AND GRANDDAD ALWAYS
WEAR GLASSES, AND MY DAD ONLY
USES IT FOR READING.

In the animation, Gran Gran and JoJo walk on a sidewalk towards a store. The sign above the store features a pair of eyeglasses. JoJo and Gran Gran enter the optometrist’s office. Jaxon and Ezra look at an eyeglass display case. A man and a woman look at a sunglasses display. A woman and a young girl sit on chairs at a small round table.

Gran Gran and JoJo walk to the counter. Behind the counter, a woman with short red hair wears a white laboratory coat over a purple sweater.

[Door squeaks, door closes, gentle music plays]

Gran Gran says, HELLO, WE'RE HERE FOR AN EYE TEST FOR JOJO.

The red-haired woman says, HELLO, JOJO, I'M RAE, THE OPTOMETRIST.

JoJo says, HELLO, RAE.

Rae says, I'LL JUST BE A FEW MOMENTS.

Jaxon says, JOJO, GRAN GRAN!

JoJo shouts, JAXON!

JoJo runs to Jaxon and Ezra. Gran Gran waves as she follows JoJo.

[Upbeat music plays]

Gran Gran says, OH, HELLO, JAXON.

JoJo asks, ARE YOU HAVING AN EYE TEST, TOO?

Ezra says, JAXON JUST HAD HIS.

Jaxon says, AND I GET TO CHOOSE NEW GLASSES.

JoJo asks, ARE YOU SHORT-SIGHTED LIKE MY DADDY?

Jaxon says, I'M LONG-SIGHTED.

JoJo asks, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Jaxon explains, I CAN SEE THINGS FAR AWAY...

Jaxon points at a poster of a man and a young girl wearing eyeglasses.

Jaxon continues, BUT WHEN I DON'T WEAR MY
GLASSES, CLOSE-UP THINGS ARE
HARDER TO SEE.

Jaxon removes his eyeglasses, and a picture of a rocket ship in a magazine becomes blurry. He puts his eyeglasses back on, and the picture becomes clear.

JoJo says, HM, GLASSES ARE SO HELPFUL.

Ezra says, AND THERE'S A PAIR TO FIT
EVER FACE. WE JUST NEED TO FIND
THE GLASSES FOR YOU, JAXON.

Jaxon says, THERE ARE SO MANY, GRANDDAD.

Rae approaches everyone.

Rae asks, ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR EYE TEST, JOJO?

JoJo says excitedly, YES.

Gran Gran says, WE'LL SEE YOU LATER.

JoJo says, BYE, JAXON.

Jaxon says, BYE!

[Whooshing]

In an examination room, JoJo sits in a chair facing Rae. Gran Gran sits on a chair to JoJo’s left.

Rae asks, IS THIS YOUR FIRST EYE TEST?

JoJo says, YES, AND PANDA'S, TOO.
MUMMY AND DADDY SAY I NEED TO
HAVE ONE EVERY YEAR.

[Upbeat music notes play]

Rae says, YOUR MUMMY AND DADDY
ARE RIGHT.

SO, I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU SOME
THINGS TO LOOK AT AND WE CAN
TEST YOUR EYES, OKAY?

JoJo says, OKAY.

[Whooshing, upbeat music plays]

Llater, Rae moves a machine in front of JoJo. JoJo looks into the machine and sees a picture of a white house with a red roof.

[Beeping]

Rae asks, WHAT CAN YOU SEE?

JoJo says, A HOUSE.

Rae pushes a button on the machine and turns it off. She moves it away from the chair. Gran Gran leans towards JoJo and gives her a thumbs-up.

[Beep, upbeat music continues]

JoJo looks into another machine that shows a picture of the inside of her eye. Rae moves the machine away. JoJo rubs her eyes and smiles.

[Beeping]

Rae picks up adjustable eye test glasses. JoJo holds up Panda.

JoJo asks, CAN PANDA GO FIRST?

[Rae chuckles]

Rae says, OF COURSE.

Rae puts the eye test glasses on Panda and walks to an eye chart with pictures including a plane, a heart, a house, a cat and a bird. Rae points to the plane. Panda slumps sideways.

Rae says, VERY GOOD, PANDA.

JoJo asks, IS IT MY TURN NOW?

Rae nods and says, MM-HM.

Rae puts the eye test glasses on JoJo and covers JoJo’s left eye. JoJo looks at the eye chart.

[Upbeat music continues]

JoJo says, A PLANE, A HOUSE, A CAT.

JoJo moves the cover from JoJo’s left eye to her right eye.

JoJo says, A BIRD, A FISH AND SOME SCISSORS.

Rae says, EXCELLENT.

JoJo cheers, YAY!

[Whoosh]

Rae puts the test glasses on a counter.

Rae says, WELL, JOJO, YOU COULD SEE
EVERYTHING ON THE TEST, AND YOUR
EYES ARE HEALTHY.

JoJo says, OH, DOES THAT MEAN I DON'T
NEED GLASSES?

Rae says, NOT EVERYONE NEEDS GLASSES.
OUR EYES ARE ALL DIFFERENT AND
CAN CHANGE OVER TIME.
THAT'S WHY WE NEED TO SEE YOU
EVERY YEAR FOR A NEW TEST.

EVERYONE DOES GET A STICKER, THOUGH.

Rae gives JoJo and Panda each a sticker of a dinosaur wearing glasses.

[Upbeat music plays]

JoJo says, THANK YOU, RAE.

JoJo and Gran Gran leave the examination room. Jaxon and Ezra are looking at the eyeglasses display.

JoJo asks, HAVE YOU CHOSEN YOUR NEW
GLASSES, JAXON?

[Jaxon sighs heavily]

Jaxon says, I STILL CAN'T DECIDE.

JoJo says, I WANTED TO CHOOSE NEW
GLASSES, BUT RAE SAYS I DON'T
NEED THEM.

Gran Gran says, HM, I THINK IT'S TIME FOR A
GRAN GRAN PLAN.

[Triumphant music plays]

Gran Gran suggests, MAYBE YOU COULD
HELP JAXON CHOOSE HIS NEW GLASSES.

Ezra says, THAT'S A GREAT IDEA, EH, JAXON?

Jaxon and JoJo say, YES!

JoJo takes a brown pair of eyeglasses off the display and Jaxon tries them on. He looks at himself in the mirror and then shakes his head.

[Upbeat music plays]

Jaxon says, MM-MM.

Jaxon tries on pink and yellow eyeglasses.

[He chuckles]

Jaxon tries on lime green eyeglasses and poses with one hand pointing up in the air.

[He laughs, everyone laughs, upbeat music continues]

JoJo picks a pair of dark red eyeglasses off the display and gives them to Jaxon.

JoJo says, HM.

Jaxon tries on the eyeglasses.

Jaxon says, YES!

JoJo says, YES!

Jaxon sits at the round table with Rae and she puts the eyeglasses on his face.

[Jaxon laughs]

Later in the park, Gran Gran and JoJo sit on a bench. Gran Gran holds her tablet. On a video call, Daddy appears on the tablet screen and waves.

[Phone rings, birds chirp]

Daddy says, HEY, JOJO.
HOW WAS YOUR EYE TEST?

JoJo says, GREAT!
I DIDN'T NEED GLASSES FOR ME,
BUT WE HELPED JAXON PICK SOME
NEW ONES.

Daddy says, OH, AND I SEE YOU'VE GOT A
STICKER, TOO.

[Upbeat music plays]

JoJo says, YES, EVERYBODY GETS A
STICKER, DADDY.

Daddy says, WELL, I'M GLAD YOU HAD A GOOD TIME.
SEE YOU AT HOME LATER. LOVE YOU.

JoJo says, BYE!

Gran Gran says, SEE YOU SOON!

In live-action, a brown-haired boy enters a store and looks at eyeglasses in a display case. A woman with short dark brown hair, and black-framed eyeglasses stands behind him.

[Gentle music plays]

The brown-haired boy says,
TODAY I'M GOING FOR AN
EYE TEST AT THE OPTICIAN'S.
AN OPTICIAN IS WHERE YOU GET
YOUR EYES CHECKED.

A woman with long dark brown hair wears a powder blue blazer and slacks, and a white blouse.

The optometrist says, WE GOT OLIVER?
DO YOU WANT TO COME THROUGH?
TAKE A SEAT OVER HERE FOR ME,
OLIVER.

The brown-haired boy, Oliver, sits in the examination chair.

The optometrist asks, HOW ARE YOU DOING?
RIGHT, ARE YOU SITTING
COMFORTABLY THERE?

SO, FIRST OF ALL, I'M GOING TO
GIVE YOU THIS TO COVER THAT EYE.

Oliver covers his left eye with a handheld occluder, a black circle with a handle.

Oliver says, MARIAM IS CHECKING HOW WELL I CAN SEE.

The optometrist, Mariam, says,
WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO,
OLIVER, IS HAVE A LOOK AT THE
PICTURES ON THE CHART, AND TELL
ME WHAT YOU CAN SEE, OKAY?

Oliver says, A BIRD, A CAR, A BOAT,
AND AN AIRPLANE.

Mariam says, PERFECT.

RIGHT, DO YOU WANT TO COVER THE
OTHER EYE NOW?
SHALL WE TRY THAT ONE?

Oliver covers his right eye with the occluder.

Oliver says, A BOAT, A FLOWER AND A CAR.

Mariam says, EXCELLENT.

SO, I WANT YOU TO FOLLOW THIS
PEN TORCH WITH YOUR EYES, BUT
KEEP YOUR HEAD NICE AND
STRAIGHT, OKAY?

Oliver says, NOW SHE'S CHECKING IF MY EYES
ARE HEALTHY.

Mariam says, AND THE OTHER WAY.

Oliver looks at a pen light as Mariam moves it up and down.

[Oliver giggles]

Mariam says, RIGHT, ALL THE WAY UP.

Mariam says, SO, NOW WHAT I'M GOING TO DO,
OLIVER, IS PUT THESE FUNNY
GLASSES ON YOU, OKAY?

Mariam puts the eye test glasses on Oliver.

Oliver says, THIS IS A SPECIAL FRAME TO
FIND OUT IF I NEED GLASSES.

Mariam blocks Oliver’s left eye.

Mariam explains, I'M GOING TO PUT THIS LENS IN
FRONT OF YOUR EYE.

IF YOU HAVE A LOOK AT THE BIRD
THERE, CAN YOU SEE THAT LITTLE--

[Beep]

Oliver says, YEAH.

Mariam says, --LITTLE PICTURE THERE, YEAH?

IS IT BETTER IF I PUT THIS LENS
IN FRONT, OR DO YOU THINK IT
LOOKS BETTER IF I TAKE THAT AWAY?
OR DO THEY BOTH LOOK THE SAME?

Oliver says, BOTH LOOK THE SAME.

Mariam repeats, THE SAME.

Oliver says, MARIAM IS NOW CHECKING MY
OTHER EYE.

Mariam blocks Oliver’s right eye in the eye test glasses.

[Upbeat music continues]

Mariam asks, OR BETTER WITHOUT?

Oliver says, BETTER WITHOUT.

Mariam takes the eye test glasses off Oliver’s face and puts them on a counter.

Mariam says, TAKE THOSE OFF YOU, THERE WE
GO. I'LL POP THOSE ON THE SIDE.

SO, OLIVER, IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR
EYESIGHT'S VERY GOOD, AND I
DON'T THINK YOU NEED ANY GLASSES.

SO, MUM, HIS EYES ARE VERY
HEALTHY, AND YOU'RE ALL DONE,
AND JUST BEFORE YOU GO, I'M JUST
GOING TO GIVE YOU A STICKER.
I'LL GIVE YOU THAT.

DO YOU WANT TO STICK THAT ON YOU?

Oliver puts a red sticker on his shirt. The sticker reads, Look. The letters O on the sticker are eyes.

Oliver says, YEAH.

Mariam says, OH, VERY NICE.

Oliver says, THANK YOU.

Mariam says, IT'S OKAY,
AND WE'LL SEE YOU SOON.

Oliver says, I LOVED HAVING AN EYE TEST.

Back in Gran Gran’s living room, Gran Gran sits on the couch with JoJo. JoJo puts a pair of eyeglasses made of blue pipe cleaners on Panda’s face.

JoJo says, HM, THERE WE GO, PANDA, YOUR
EYES ARE VERY HEALTHY.

Panda slumps to the side, and the eyeglasses slide forward.

[Upbeat music notes play]

JoJo tells Gran Gran, THANK YOU
FOR TAKING ME FOR MY EYE TEST.
IT WAS FUN HELPING JAXON PICK
SOME NEW GLASSES.

[Gentle music plays]

Gran Gran says, AW, YOU'RE WELCOME, JOJO,
AND IF YOU DO EVER NEED GLASSES, WE
KNOW THERE'S A PAIR TO FIT EVERY FACE.

JoJo says, I LOVE YOU, GRAN GRAN.

Gran Gran says, I LOVE YOU TOO, JOJO.

Gran Gran holds Jojo close. Jojo and Gran Gran smile.

[Gentle, uplifting music plays]
