In the winter a black-haired man with a neatly trimmed beard, Jarrod, makes a snowman. He waves as JoJo and Gran Gran walk by in their winter coats. In the Spring, Gran Gran’s grey-haired neighbour, Cynthia, waters the flowers in her front garden. JoJo and Gran Gran wave on their way to Gran Gran’s house.

WITH JOJO AND GRAN GRAN.
JoJo and Gran Gran walk to Gran Gran’s front door. The title reads JoJo and Gran Gran.

Gran Gran narrates, IT WAS A SPRING
MORNING. THE BLOSSOM WAS ON THE TREES.
THE SUN WAS SHINING.

THAT'S ME, WERE LISTENING TO
THE BIRDS IN THE GARDEN.
JoJo, Daddy, and Gran Gran stand in a fenced garden behind Gran Gran’s house. They look up at a birdhouse and a bird feeder hanging from a tree branch. Two birds peck at the birdfeeder. A robin perches on a fence post. A bird lands on the perch on the front of the birdhouse.
[Birds sing]
JoJo says, I LOVE HEARING THE BIRDS
SINGING!
[Gran Gran chuckles]
Gran Gran says, THEY DO SOUND LOVELY, JOJO.
Daddy says, AHH.
[Daddy whistles a bird song]
JoJo says, YOU SOUND LIKE THE ROBIN,
DADDY.
[JoJo blows]
JoJo says, I CAN'T DO IT!
Daddy says, I COULDN'T WHISTLE WHEN I WAS
YOUR AGE, JOJO. IT TAKES TIME TO LEARN.
Gran Gran asks, WHAT OTHER BIRD SOUNDS
DO WE KNOW?
Daddy asks, WHAT ABOUT... A DUCK?
Daddy and JoJo move their arms like wings.
JoJo says, QUACK, QUACK.
JoJo and Daddy say, QUACK, QUACK.
QUACK, QUACK.
[Laughter, birds sing]
Cynthia peers over the top of the fence.
Cynthia says, HELLO, YOU THREE!
JoJo, Daddy, and Gran Gran wave to Cynthia.
JoJo says, HI, CYNTHIA!
Cynthia says, I'VE GOT A SURPRISE IN MY
GARDEN! WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME AND SEE?
JoJo says, YES, PLEASE!
ME AND PANDA LOVE SURPRISES.
In Cynthia’s garden, JoJo looks through a pair of binoculars. Gran Gran kneels beside her, and Daddy stands behind Gran Gran.
Cynthia points and says softly, LOOK, JOJO!
THAT'S THE ROBIN'S NEST.
Through the binoculars, JoJo looks at the nest inside a tipped pot. The nest pot is wedged between a stack of pots and two bricks.
[JoJo gasps]
Cynthia asks, BUT WHAT CAN YOU SEE IN THE
NEST?
JoJo counts, ONE, TWO...
[Upbeat music plays, she gasps]
JoJo continues, THREE EGGS!
Cynthia says, HOPEFULLY, IT WON'T
BE LONG UNTIL THEY HATCH.
Daddy says, AND THEN, THERE'LL BE THREE
BABY ROBINS LIVING IN CYNTHIA'S
GARDEN!
[JoJo and Gran Gran giggle, JoJo gasps]
JoJo says, LOOK! ANOTHER ROBIN.
[Robin sings, JoJo blows, she sighs]
JoJo says, WHISTLING LIKE A ROBIN IS HARD.
I LIKE QUACKING LIKE A DUCK.
QUACK, QUACK. QUACK, QUACK, QUACK.
[Everyone laughs]

The girl with the bun says, BABY BIRDS HATCH FROM EGGS.

Panda slumps forward.

JoJo says, HMM.
BUT WE NEED MORE LEAVES AND
TWIGS.
Cynthia suggests, TRY MY COMPOSTING PILE, JOJO.
JoJo cheers, YAY!
JoJo, Daddy, and Cynthia gather twigs and leaves from the compost pile and add them to the nest for Panda.
[Rustling]
JoJo asks, DO ALL BIRDS BUILD THEIR NESTS
IN PLANT POTS?
Cynthia says, OH, NO!
BIRDS BUILD NESTS IN ALL SORTS
OF PLACES.
YOU CAN SEE BIRDS NESTS ON THE
BRANCHES OF TREES, INSIDE BUSHES
AND NEAR WATER!
JoJo says, WATER? WHY?
On her tablet, Gran Gran shows JoJo an image of a duck sitting in a nest with ducklings swimming nearby in a pond.
[Gentle music plays]
Gran Gran says, DUCKS BUILD NESTS NEAR WATER,
SO THEIR BABY DUCKLINGS CAN SWIM
IN THE POND.
JoJo says, THE BABY DUCKLINGS ARE
SO FLUFFY AND CUTE!
JoJo puts a twig on her nest.
[Rustling, upbeat music plays]
JoJo says, THERE! FINISHED!
THIS NEST IS FULL.
ONE, TWO EGGS AND...
JoJo puts two rocks in the nest and puts Panda between them.
[Rustling]
JoJo says, PANDA!
[Gran Gran chuckles]
Gran Gran says, PANDA LOOKS REALLY
COMFORTABLE.
The robin lands on the edge of the nest. The robin takes a leaf and flies away. The robin adds the leaf to their own nest.
[Bird sings, upbeat music continues]
Daddy says, WHOA!
[Gasping, laughing]
JoJo says, I WISH THE BIRDS WOULD HATCH NOW.
I WANT TO SEE THE BABY ROBINS!
Gran Gran says, JOJO, I THINK IT'S TIME FOR A
GRAN GRAN PLAN!
[Triumphant music plays]
Gran Gran says, SPRINGTIME IS WHEN
LOTS OF BABY BIRDS HATCH.
SO, WHILE WE WAIT FOR THE
ROBIN'S EGGS TO HATCH, WE COULD
GO TO THE PARK AND SEE ALL THE
LITTLE DUCKLINGS INSTEAD.
[JoJo squeals excitedly]
At the park, Daddy, JoJo, and Gran Gran crouch by an opening beneath a bush. They watch a duck nest with a mother duck and five ducklings. The father duck stands by the nest.
[Upbeat music plays, ducks quack, laughing]
They back away from the opening, and the adult ducks lead the ducklings away from the nest.
[Ducks quack, laughter]
Daddy and JoJo flap their arms, imitating the walking ducks.
Both say, QUACK, QUACK.
Daddy says, QUACK, QUACK.
JoJo says, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK.
[JoJo giggles]
The adult ducks jump into the pond, and four ducklings leap in behind them. The last duckling pauses at the edge of the pond. The duckling jumps into the water and sinks beneath the surface, then swims back to the top.
[Splashing, peeping, splash, JoJo gasps, peep]
JoJo, Gran Gran, and Daddy cheer, YAY!
Daddy and JoJo pose on a bridge over the pond. Gran Gran takes a photograph with her tablet.
[Camera shutter snaps]
Later, Daddy, JoJo, and Gran Gran walk on a sidewalk.
JoJo says, I LOVED SEEING THE DUCKLINGS, GRAN GRAN.
The robin lands on a ledge.
JoJo points and says, IT'S THE ROBIN!
[Robin sings, JoJo blows, sighs]
JoJo says, I STILL CAN'T WHISTLE, DADDY.
Daddy says, HERE, JOJO, WATCH ME.
[Daddy whistles a tune, JoJo blows trying to whistle, then whistles faintly]
Daddy says, YEAH, NEARLY, NEARLY!
[Daddy whistles a tune, JoJo whistles]
Daddy cheers, YES!
[Gran Gran gasps]
Gran Gran says, YOU DID IT, JOJO!
JoJo says, I CAN WHISTLE!
[Everyone whistles, bird sings]
Cynthia sits cross-legged in front of her house.
Cynthia says, OH, JOJO, I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU!
[JoJo squeals]
Later, in Cynthia’s back garden, JoJo peers through binoculars. Gran Gran kneels at JoJo's left-hand side, and Daddy stands behind Gran Gran. Cynthia crouches at JoJo's right-hand side.
Cynthia whispers, WHAT DO YOU SEE?
[JoJo gasps]
JoJo whispers, THE EGGS HAVE HATCHED!
In the nest in the pot, the robin feeds three baby birds.
[Gran Gran laughs, birds chirp]
JoJo whispers, THE BABY ROBINS ARE SO TINY!
Cynthia says, THEY ARE, AREN'T THEY?
OH, SO BEAUTIFUL!
[Cynthia laughs softly, JoJo giggles]
JoJo holds the binoculars in front of Panda.
JoJo says, LOOK, PANDA, THEY'RE HAVING
THEIR FOOD.
[Cynthia chuckles, robins sing]
Cynthia says, AWW.

[Drill whirrs]

Layla tears a piece of duct tape off a roll. Layla and Nana stick the tape on the roof of the nest box.
[Tearing]

IT'S WATERPROOF AND WE PUT IT
THERE. THAT END, STICK IT TIGHT.
AND THEN, IT STOPS THE RAIN
GOING IN. LIKE THAT.
AND THEN, YOU PRESS IT IN.
AND THAT'S IT. THERE YOU GO!
Layla cheers, IT'S FINISHED!
Nana and Layla high-five.
[Hands slap, laughing]
Nana says, LOVE YOU.
Layla says, LOVE YOU.
Nana asks, RIGHT, WHERE DO YOU WANT TO PUT IT?
Layla asks, HOW ABOUT OVER THERE?
Nana says, THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO HANG IT OVER
THERE?
Layla says, BECAUSE IT'S NEAR THE FOOD
AND THEY CAN EAT AS SOON AS THEY
GET OUTSIDE THEIR NEST.

Layla’s granddad holds the nest box beside a branch and drills it in place.
[Drill whirrs]

Back in Gran Gran’s living room, Gran Gran sits on the couch with JoJo. JoJo gently pats Panda on the head.

YOU CAN SEE BIRDS NESTS ON THE
BRANCHES OF TREES, INSIDE BUSHES
AND NEAR WATER!
JoJo says, WATER? WHY?
On her tablet, Gran Gran shows JoJo an image of a duck sitting in a nest with ducklings swimming nearby in a pond.
[Gentle music plays]
Gran Gran says, DUCKS BUILD NESTS NEAR WATER,
SO THEIR BABY DUCKLINGS CAN SWIM
IN THE POND.
JoJo says, THE BABY DUCKLINGS ARE
SO FLUFFY AND CUTE!
JoJo puts a twig on her nest.
[Rustling, upbeat music plays]
JoJo says, THERE! FINISHED!
THIS NEST IS FULL.
ONE, TWO EGGS AND...
JoJo puts two rocks in the nest and puts Panda between them.
[Rustling]
JoJo says, PANDA!
[Gran Gran chuckles]
Gran Gran says, PANDA LOOKS REALLY
COMFORTABLE.
The robin lands on the edge of the nest. The robin takes a leaf and flies away. The robin adds the leaf to their own nest.
[Bird sings, upbeat music continues]
Daddy says, WHOA!
[Gasping, laughing]
JoJo says, I WISH THE BIRDS WOULD HATCH NOW.
I WANT TO SEE THE BABY ROBINS!
Gran Gran says, JOJO, I THINK IT'S TIME FOR A
GRAN GRAN PLAN!
[Triumphant music plays]
Gran Gran says, SPRINGTIME IS WHEN
LOTS OF BABY BIRDS HATCH.
SO, WHILE WE WAIT FOR THE
ROBIN'S EGGS TO HATCH, WE COULD
GO TO THE PARK AND SEE ALL THE
LITTLE DUCKLINGS INSTEAD.
[JoJo squeals excitedly]
At the park, Daddy, JoJo, and Gran Gran crouch by an opening beneath a bush. They watch a duck nest with a mother duck and five ducklings. The father duck stands by the nest.
[Upbeat music plays, ducks quack, laughing]
They back away from the opening, and the adult ducks lead the ducklings away from the nest.
[Ducks quack, laughter]
Daddy and JoJo flap their arms, imitating the walking ducks.
Both say, QUACK, QUACK.
Daddy says, QUACK, QUACK.
JoJo says, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK.
[JoJo giggles]
The adult ducks jump into the pond, and four ducklings leap in behind them. The last duckling pauses at the edge of the pond. The duckling jumps into the water and sinks beneath the surface, then swims back to the top.
[Splashing, peeping, splash, JoJo gasps, peep]
JoJo, Gran Gran, and Daddy cheer, YAY!
Daddy and JoJo pose on a bridge over the pond. Gran Gran takes a photograph with her tablet.
[Camera shutter snaps]
Later, Daddy, JoJo, and Gran Gran walk on a sidewalk.
JoJo says, I LOVED SEEING THE DUCKLINGS, GRAN GRAN.
The robin lands on a ledge.
JoJo points and says, IT'S THE ROBIN!
[Robin sings, JoJo blows, sighs]
JoJo says, I STILL CAN'T WHISTLE, DADDY.
Daddy says, HERE, JOJO, WATCH ME.
[Daddy whistles a tune, JoJo blows trying to whistle, then whistles faintly]
Daddy says, YEAH, NEARLY, NEARLY!
[Daddy whistles a tune, JoJo whistles]
Daddy cheers, YES!
[Gran Gran gasps]
Gran Gran says, YOU DID IT, JOJO!
JoJo says, I CAN WHISTLE!
[Everyone whistles, bird sings]
Cynthia sits cross-legged in front of her house.
Cynthia says, OH, JOJO, I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU!
[JoJo squeals]
Later, in Cynthia’s back garden, JoJo peers through binoculars. Gran Gran kneels at JoJo's left-hand side, and Daddy stands behind Gran Gran. Cynthia crouches at JoJo's right-hand side.
Cynthia whispers, WHAT DO YOU SEE?
[JoJo gasps]
JoJo whispers, THE EGGS HAVE HATCHED!
In the nest in the pot, the robin feeds three baby birds.
[Gran Gran laughs, birds chirp]
JoJo whispers, THE BABY ROBINS ARE SO TINY!
Cynthia says, THEY ARE, AREN'T THEY?
OH, SO BEAUTIFUL!
[Cynthia laughs softly, JoJo giggles]
JoJo holds the binoculars in front of Panda.
JoJo says, LOOK, PANDA, THEY'RE HAVING
THEIR FOOD.
[Cynthia chuckles, robins sing]
Cynthia says, AWW.
In live-action, a white-haired woman and a young girl with long brown hair sit on chairs on a deck. The girl wears a pair of blue and black binoculars around her neck.
[Upbeat music plays]
The brown-haired girl narrates,
ME AND MY NANA ALWAYS
LOOK AT THE BIRDS IN THE GARDEN.
TODAY, WE'RE MAKING A NEST BOX
FOR THEM.
WE'RE MAKING IT OUT OF WOOD.
WE'RE WORKING AS A TEAM.
Nana asks, IS IT LINED UP?
The brown-haired girl says, RIGHT.
The brown-haired girl narrates,
NANA IS WATCHING ME, SO I DO
IT SAFELY.
The brown-haired girl drills a screw into the side of the nest box.
[Drill whirrs]
Nana says, LOOK AT THAT!
THAT'S ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
The brown-haired girl narrates,
WE'RE MAKING SURE IT'S STRONG
TO KEEP THE BIRDS SAFE.
The brown-haired girl says, THERE WE GO.
OKAY, ONE LAST HOLE AND WE'RE...
Nana says, LAST ONE, THAT'S IT.
The brown-haired girl says, DONE.
[Drill whirrs]
Nana says, LOOK AT THAT HOLE.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IT'S FOR, LAYLA?
The brown-haired girl, Layla, says,
I THINK IT'S SO BIRDIES CAN
CLIMB INSIDE.
Nana asks, IS THERE ANY THERE NOW?
Layla says, NO, BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T HUNG
IT UP, NANA.
Nana says, OH, SORRY! SORRY.
Layla tears a piece of duct tape off a roll. Layla and Nana stick the tape on the roof of the nest box.
[Tearing]
Nana says, THERE YOU GO.
IT'S WATERPROOF AND WE PUT IT
THERE. THAT END, STICK IT TIGHT.
AND THEN, IT STOPS THE RAIN
GOING IN. LIKE THAT.
AND THEN, YOU PRESS IT IN.
AND THAT'S IT. THERE YOU GO!
Layla cheers, IT'S FINISHED!
Nana and Layla high-five.
[Hands slap, laughing]
Nana says, LOVE YOU.
Layla says, LOVE YOU.
Nana asks, RIGHT, WHERE DO YOU WANT TO PUT IT?
Layla asks, HOW ABOUT OVER THERE?
Nana says, THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO HANG IT OVER
THERE?
Layla says, BECAUSE IT'S NEAR THE FOOD
AND THEY CAN EAT AS SOON AS THEY
GET OUTSIDE THEIR NEST.
Nana says, RIGHT, GO ON, THEN.
SHOW ME WHERE.
Layla says, OVER THERE, PLEASE, GRANDAD.
Layla’s granddad holds the nest box beside a branch and drills it in place.
[Drill whirrs]
Layla sits on the deck with her grandparents.
Layla narrates, NOW, WE CAN SIT
AND WATCH THE BIRDS.
[Birds chirp]
Layla narrates, I HOPE THE BIRDS
LIKE THEIR NEW NEST BOX.
Back in Gran Gran’s living room, Gran Gran sits on the couch with JoJo. JoJo gently pats Panda on the head.
JoJo says, I LIKE SEEING THE BABY
ROBINS, GRAN GRAN.
[Whistles bird song, giggles, playful music plays]
Gran Gran says, AND THE BABY DUCKLINGS IN THE
PARK! QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK, QUACK.
[JoJo laughs]
JoJo says, I LOVE YOU, GRAN GRAN.
[Gran Gran chuckles]
Gran Gran says, I LOVE YOU TOO, JOJO.
Gran Gran holds Jojo close. JoJo and Gran Gran smile.
[Gentle, uplifting music plays]
