Odo says, I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY FIRST LESSON. I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY PIANO. I'M SURE I'LL BE GREAT.
Odo jumps off a grassy ledge and looks into a cave.
[Grunting]
Odo says, OOPS! I FORGOT YOUR HOUSE WAS DARK. HELLO, EILEEN. LIGHTS ON, PLEASE?
Eileen, a firefly on a plant, lights up. Doodle picks the plant up and walks further into the cave.
[Chiming, gentle music plays]
Doodle says, I'M HOME, MUM! AND ODO IS WITH ME.
Doodle’s mum says, MY DARLING DOODLE. AND HELLO, ODO!
Doodle puts the plant on a table.
[Clunking]
Odo says, HELLO, DOODLE'S MUM! THANKS FOR THE PIANO LESSON. MY MUM SENT THIS FOR YOU.
Odo puts a kerchief on the table and opens it, revealing three daffodil bulbs.
[Rustling, sniffing]
Doodle’s mum says, DAFFODIL BULBS? MY FAVOURITE!
She eats the bulbs.
[Chomping]
Doodle’s mum says, NOW LET'S GET STARTED.
Odo says, I WROTE A SONG I'D LIKE TO LEARN.
Odo hops up onto a stool in front of a piano.
[Grunting]
Odo says, IT GOES:
Odo sings, DO-DO-DO-DO-DO-DO, DO-DO-DO-DO-DO, ODO.
[Doodle chuckling]
Doodle says, THAT'S VERY CATCHY.
Doodle hops up to the top of the piano and puts down the plant light.
[Grunting, clunking]
Odo says, I WANT TO LEARN IT TO PLAY FOR MY MUM AND DAD WHEN THEY COME TO COLLECT ME.
[Doodle’s mum chuckling]
Doodle’s mum says, WE CAN DO THAT, BUT LET'S START WITH SOMETHING SIMPLE.
Doodle’s mum plays the piano.
[Doodle’s mum playing a scale, Odo mashing random keys]
Odo says, IT ISN'T WORKING. AH, I KNOW. IT'S TOO DARK IN HERE. DOODLE, CAN YOU HOLD EILEEN HIGHER?
Doodle says, UH-HUH.
Doodle holds the plant over the keyboard.
Odo says, THANKS. CAN EILEEN SHINE ANY BRIGHTER?
Doodle says, EILEEN, AS BRIGHT AS YOU CAN.
Eileen shines brighter.
Odo asks, CAN YOU SHOW ME AGAIN, PLEASE?
Doodle’s mum replies, OF COURSE.
[Doodle’s mum playing a scale, Odo mashing random keys]
Eileen dims, and Doodle puts the plant down.
[Odo sighing, Eileen whimpering, clunking]
Doodle says, UM, YOU GOT ONE NOTE RIGHT. JUST NOT IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
Odo says, I KEEP GETTING IT WRONG! MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE EILEEN ISN'T BRIGHT ENOUGH.
Odo jumps off the piano stool and pushes against the side of the piano.
[Grunting]
Odo asks, CAN WE TAKE THE PIANO OUTSIDE INTO THE SUNLIGHT?
Doodle’s mum says, WE COULD GIVE IT A TRY.
[Whooshing, birds chirping]
Doodle’s mum, Odo, and Doodle push the piano up a hill towards the cave entrance.
[Grunting, scraping]
Odo says, ONE MORE PUSH! IF WE KEEP TRYING, WE CAN GET THIS PIANO OUTSIDE. I KNOW WE CAN!
[Creaking]
Doodle’s mum says, WELL, I GOT THE PIANO IN HERE. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET IT OUT.
Eileen flies over Doodle’s mum’s head in the cave. The piano squeezes through the entrance and rolls away with Doodle and Odo on top. The piano rolls down a hill, past where Reggie the fox digs a hole.
[Grunting, shouting, screaming]
Reggie says, HUH? ODO!
Michael, a brown mouse, shouts, DOODLE!
A reddish-orange chicken and a yellow-orange chicken lean against a tree stump. They watch a brown and white chicken jumping.
The reddish-orange chicken says, YOU'RE WASTING YOUR TIME.
[Squawking]
The reddish-orange chicken says, CHICKENS DON'T FLY!
The piano zooms past the chickens, knocking them up into the air.
[Screaming, whooshing, brown and white chicken laughing]
The brown and white chicken says, I TOLD YOU! CHICKENS FLY!
[Flapping, upbeat music plays]
The reddish-orange chicken says, WHO KNEW?
The chickens fall to the ground.
[Yelping]
A toucan with a grey-striped bill says, HEY, BUD, WHAT DO YOU CALL A LITTLE GREEN VEGETABLE THAT MAKES MUSIC?
Bud, a toucan with a blue-striped bill, asks, WHAT DO YOU CALL A LITTLE GREEN VEGETABLE THAT MAKES MUSIC?
The first toucan says, A PEA-ANO!
[Laughing, shouting]
The first toucan says, GET IT?
Bud says, A PEA-ANO! THAT'S HILARIOUS.
[Laughing, screaming]
The toucans say, PIANO!
The piano rolls past the toucans. Bud jumps into the other toucan’s arms.
Reggie shouts, ODO!
Reggie runs in front of the piano. He, Eileen, and Michael push against it, and the piano slides to a stop.
[Grunting, skidding, Odo exhaling]
Odo says, THANK YOU, REGGIE AND MICHAEL AND EILEEN.
Doodle says, I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO RIDE THE PIANO ALL THE WAY TO THE SEA AND ACROSS THE OCEAN!
[Reggie chuckling, happy music notes play]
Reggie says, WE'D NEVER LET THAT HAPPEN.
Michael asks, HOW DID YOU END UP RIDING A PIANO?
Odo jumps off the piano.
[Grunting]
Odo says, WE'LL TELL YOU ON THE WAY. CAN YOU HELP US PUSH IT BACK TO DOODLE'S HOUSE?
[Whooshing, birds chirping]
Odo, Doodle, Reggie, and Michael push the piano back up the hill and roll back to Doodle’s mum.
[Grunting, piano wheels squeaking, tired sighing, birds chirping, gentle music plays]
Doodle’s mum says, THANK GOODNESS YOU'RE HERE. I WAS WORRIED YOU'D ROLLED ALL THE WAY TO THE SEA.
Doodle says, THAT'S WHAT I SAID.
Eileen flies to her plant and lies down.
[Whimpering, sighing]
Doodle’s mum says, MAYBE THAT'S ENOUGH PIANO LESSONS FOR ONE DAY.
Odo says, NO! MY MUM AND DAD WILL BE HERE SOON! I CAN LEARN TO PLAY THE SONG. I KNOW I CAN! I SAID WE COULD GET THE PIANO OUT THE DOOR, AND WE DID. AND NOW I'VE GOT LOTS OF LIGHT! OH, PLEASE?
[Doodle’s mum chuckling]
Doodle’s mum says, I LIKE YOUR DETERMINATION, ODO. OKAY, WE'LL TRY AGAIN.
Doodle’s mum plays the piano. Odo mashes the keys.
[Doodle’s mum playing a scale, Odo hits keys out of order, Odo sighing]
Doodle says, WOW, YOU GOT TWO NOTES RIGHT THIS TIME!
[Odo groaning]
Odo says, NO! IT'S STILL WRONG! IT'S 'CAUSE REGGIE AND MICHAEL ARE LOOKING AT ME.
Michael says, HUH?
Reggie says, OH.
[Birds chirping, gentle music plays]
Odo asks, WOULD YOU MIND LOOKING THE OTHER WAY?
Reggie and Michael turn around.
Odo says, OKAY, I'M GOING TO TRY REALLY HARD THIS TIME.
Michael pulls his ears down.
[Discordant piano music, Michael whimpering, Doodle’s mum gasping]
Odo says, NO! IT'S STILL NOT...
[Angry shouting, piano notes play]
Odo asks, IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE PIANO?
Odo opens the top of the piano and climbs inside.
[Grunting]
Doodle’s mum says, ODO, DEAR, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PIANO.
Odo says, BUT YOU'RE RIGHT! THERE'S NOTHING BROKEN.
[Sighing]
Odo says, SO, IT'S NOT THE PIANO'S FAULT.
Doodle says, ODO, IT'S NOT EILEEN'S FAULT, OR REGGIE'S, OR MICHAEL'S. AND IT'S NOT THE FAULT OF THE PIANO. LEARNING PIANO TAKES TIME.
Doodle’s mum says, THAT'S RIGHT. WHEN DOODLE STARTED, IT TOOK HER AGES TO LEARN.
Odo says, DOODLE, YOU PLAY PIANO?
Doodle says, YES, BUT I'VE BEEN PRACTICING SINCE I WAS A CHICK.
[Doodle playing piano scale, grunting, giggling]
Odo says, WOW!
Odo says, OKAY, SO, IT WASN'T ANYBODY'S FAULT. I JUST HAVE TO KEEP PRACTICING!
Odo jumps down from a bench.
[Grunting, gentle music plays]
Odo says, I'M SORRY, EILEEN. I'M SORRY, REGGIE AND MICHAEL. I'M SORRY, PIANO. DOODLE, CAN YOU PLAY ANYTHING ELSE?
Doodle asks, MUM, WILL YOU PLAY WITH ME?
Doodle’s mum says, MM-HMM.
Doodle says, ODO, YOU CAN PLAY THOSE TWO NOTES YOU LEARNED.
Doodle, her mum, and Odo play the piano together.
[Cheerful piano music plays]
Reggie says, OH, YAY! WOW!
Michael says, YEAH! UH-HUH.

Odo’s dad says, YAY!
[Birds chirping, gentle music plays]
Odo says, YES! AND I WANT TO HAVE MORE LESSONS. LEARNING TAKES TIME, AND IF I GET THINGS WRONG, WELL, THAT'S NOBODY'S FAULT. I'VE JUST GOT TO KEEP PRACTICING AND PRACTICING.
Odo’s dad picks him up.
His mum says, THAT'S RIGHT. AND I KNOW YOU CAN LEARN TO PLAY THE PIANO.
Odo asks, CAN WE STAY A LITTLE LONGER? PLAY ONE MORE SONG? PLEASE?
