Ansen

Ansen is a ten-year-old boy from the Tsuut'ina Nation just outside of Calgary, Alberta. He rides horses bareback, a long-standing tradition among First Nation horsemen. He loves to play basketball with his cousin Tyreese, with whom he also plays baseball and hockey! Ansen and Tyreese go to the same school together. They both love the traditional meals that Ansen's mom cooks, like moose, elk, buffalo and deer. Ansen loves to play the drums, both at school, where he is in the band and plays the drum kit, and at home, where he plays a traditional drum. Ansen is proud of his beautiful regalia and he demonstrates the Prairie Chicken Dance for us. His special word is ,iskli, which means ,horse, in Tsuut'ina.
